he is the best teacher i ever had at scc. super helpful, understands that you have a busy life and is really easy to talk to. he is awesome!!!
Greatest teacher ever, really helpful, understanding, clear as hell and most importantly very easy with exams (online), some papers to write but no worries..they are usually on your personal experiences..how hard can that be?? take him if u want an easiest A..u shud all take him atleast once..will inspire u alott!!
Professor Lorenz is a pheonminal teacher. His class was an atmosphere of open communication. He makes you feel like whatever you have to say and the input you have is as valuable as the content he is teaching. I have never been in a class that was so easy to learn the subject. Thank you Professor Lorenz, you are GREAT!
I had Mr Lorenz for Summer '08 and this was a great class. He encourages participation. Different teaching style than most professors. I would highly recommend his class to anyone.
Great teacher! One of my favorites. Really encourages success and also knows what he is talking about. Easy and interesting class.
The class is easy. Online quizzes, no final just a group presentation, you need to write 3 papers in the whole semester and you can turn them whenever you want!!!! Everything you have to say is important. All teachers should be like him. If you want to learn take this class;)
Too bad there aren't more professors like him! He has a unique teaching style that everyone can work with. No tests, no hw deadlines. Highly recommend him! Keep up the great work!
Very intelligent and helpful
Awesome teacher, very informative, helpful and wonderful. Its an easy A but you have to keep up on your work or you'll be struggle in end to finish all work. Open book quizes online, final is group presentation, few papers due but not as bad. I highly recommend this teacher. He is great.
he was a great teacher had him in the spring 2009 for child development. very helpful and breaks things down so you understand. alot of group disscussions. you need the book for sure it comes to good when quizes and final come.
professor lorenz is the bomb! his lectures are amazing, his youtube video relation to the topic is cool. and he is jst the best! mind you theres no scantrons here and he has done that for some years. theres a lot of D2L work but its ok 1 quiz per chapter 1 discussion board 2 observations and assignments. nothing hard im gonna take him again in FCS
He is awesome! i had him for life span human development and just wow. he teaches in a way that everyone understands. he is very friendly and understanding that things happen in the real world. uses D2L ALOT! everything is due through there. pretty much an online class with group discussion for an hour. just use the book from the library
Wow! Where can I begin? I will forever learn in life through what I learned with him! Very caring, understandable and uses d2l ALLOT. It's like an online course. NEED a computer and printer. I recommend this teacher 100%!!!
Lots of internet use.
The best teacher hands down he made me think in a different way so helpful, he is such a nice person. you need a flash drive everything you do is on d2l
So far it's best class I've taken! Mr. Lorenz rocks. He's patient with students and is really funny. He is flexible with different learning styles and is not a "read out of the text book" type of teacher! Recommend this class for anyone who works with or is planning on having children!
He is absolutely the best professor I have ever had!He has a different teaching style and it really works! The final is a group presentation and your quizzes are all online. We need more teachers like him. It was a privilege for me to have had him!
Amazing teacher, and just and all around amazing man! I am honored to have him for a teacher. The class is easy. He is the best teacher I've EVER had. I just wish he was my teacher growing up. He really Cares. He just is an amazing man.
Best teacher I've ever had!
Lorenz is a caring person, and his class was easy, but I don't think I learned much. Lectures were often unclear, and class discussions got extremely off-topic. I wonder how much material we did not cover because we spent class time listening to long, drawn-out personal stories.
Best teacher ever! lectures can seem a bit off topic, but that's his teaching style! very helpful if you're unclear on anything. Very caring and wonderful man!
Prof. Lorenz cares about his students more than any other professor in Sacramento. I enjoyed this class a lot. The book is necessary if you want to pass the quizzes. Coursework is clear & grading is fair. He is more than willing to help you with anything. He wants you to understand.
Did not take much from his class. In theory, it sounds great but you are not left with much in hand. Like how do we actually apply in class with children and in life the theories brought about in class? Practical examples and application of theory would've been needed.
One of the kindest, most compassionate, accepting people I've ever met. Really encourages individual thought. Do the work, stay involved and you'll get a good grade.
This is the second class I have taken with him and the only thing I've learned is about other student's lives. The only time he lectured was when the dean was in the class evaluating him. This is a pathetic excuse for a college class. He doesn't give tests, lectures, or assign papers which is clearly to make his life easier, not to benefit students
He cares a lot about our education. He barely lectures and he tries to make his class interesting. He's also a very personal teacher. Best and caring teacher I have ever had.
Proffesor Lorentz is nice teacher,i loved his class soo much it was fun, i had amazing experiences in lab that was off campus, quizes were hard, but final was ok.the discussion boards were fun topics and hard, papers are online dont miss any .
nice teacher...makes learing fun! alot of book work MUST READ...a lot of work but can be done at your paste, but must be done
Very good instructor. Very easy. Taught through Powerpoint. Everything was to the point. Tests weren't hard as long as you paid attention in class. A lot of talking but mostly about how to apply everything to the real world so pretty interesting. Book is helpful but not extremely necessary; he teaches you everything you need to know for tests.
I have taken two classes with Norman and he is a great teacher. He encourages you to think out of the box, he is very helpful and passionate about education. He really cares about his students and encourages us to strive for excellence; for ourselves and for the children we will be working with in the future. We need more like him! Learned a lot.
Amazing.
He is A GREAT TEACHER!
I could still remember the first day of class on how I almost cried bec. of his overwhelming 10 page syllabus! But all it was is just do the work and you'll get an A! If you don't understand, ask. He's a very dedicated Teacher! he loves his students! But yallz show up to class! trust me it's useful and educational! Most of all, not a bad grader!
This is a character building class, not a knowledge building class. I learned more about the people in my class than the subject itself. He's passionate about education but should focus more on the curriculum and less on Montessori.
I was expecting a lot more from this professor. This class was very unorganized and felt hectic. D2L is a huge part of the course, but the assignments and their respective due dates are hard to keep up with...he tends not to announce them until last minute. Aside from that, the field experience portion of the class was very beneficial.
Such a wonderful and fun professor. I loved his class, the setting was great. I actually looked forward to class which was amazing. His work was web enhanced d2l which is soo very easy, just do your work! The class was a piece of cake! Highly recommended
Super sweet and truly cares about his students. Enjoys open discussion and participation. Take this class!
Lorenz is a super nice and passionate guy. As long as you understand what he is trying to do, you will like any class you take with him. It is key to be open minded and willing to be creative with your work. Show him that you put in effort and you will get a good grade. I personally learned a lot about myself as a future teacher in this class.
Does not reply to emails, even during the hours he is supposed to be helping people in the office. Does not teach much of what is in the book, and expects us to take tests on them. He is a nice person, but he is more into individual development than really teaching what we are getting graded on.
Lorenz teaching style is pretty much "its your opinion, it won't be right or wrong", but he grades ridiculously hard, so its hard to understand exactly what he wants. Generally everyone is confused at the end of class. Shows ALOT of youtube. I was considering dropping and taking it over with a different professor at one point. Try not to get him.
The class discussions have nothing to do with what you are graded on. He wastes every class period watching videos and discussing random topics that don't seem to relate. He also goes on long rants about disliking his co-workers. Grades Hard! His D2L has way to much information it is overwhelming! His approach to teaching is unorganized and lazy
Lorenz is a kind person with a lot to say. Unfortunately, he is as lazy as can be when it comes to actually teaching. He can get you inspired and then leave you hanging on the edge of a cliff. He uses class time to ask some questions and read a few quotes, and then slams you with extensive online work. (I've had 7 writings due the same day.)
Norman is very passionate in what he does. A lot of people are only complaining because he has a different style of teaching which you will get use to over the course of the semester. The first few weeks will be frustrating, but don't drop the class. He's very big with group work so choose wisely. Tests and hwk are all on D2L.
NORMAN IS INSPIRATIONAL AND ACTUALLY CARES ABOUT YOU. YOUR MORE THAN A STUDENT, HE SEES EVERYONE AS INDIVIDUAL. HE UNDERSTANDS THAT IT'S HIS JOB TO GIVE YOU THE PROPER TOOLS. THERE ISN'T HOMEWORK. MAINLY LECTURE. BUT ITS MORE A FREE SPACE FOR EVERYONE TO VOICE THEIR OPINION ABOUT THE TOPIC OF DISCUSSION.
Not going to lie, it was pretty confusing at first but I got the hang of it a couple of weeks later I enjoyed this class and if he taught 200 classes I would take all 200 with him. DO NOT TAKE HIM IF YOU ENJOY BORING TEACHERS WHO LECTURE ALL THE TIME. i definitely recommend you take a class with him it will be a great experience.
This class is good in some ways, bad in some other ways. The bad: tons of group work, really long class discussions, and if you arent looking for a career related to this subject, you might find this class a little bit harder. The good: Prof. Lorenz is extremely nice and helpful, and he makes the class really interesting. Also, it's pretty easy.
AWESOME PROFESSOR!!!! I would take this class again if needed, would've been nice to have him as a professor for all my classes(: Hes helpful. For someone like me who doesn't like school he has helped me gain a slight interest in school
great class, amazing professor, def won't fall sleep in, don't make the same mistake as me EASY A as long as you do the work, gotta do the work! makes it great, respectful, comfortable environment.
He is a great teacher but his new way of teaching is really confusing and I am mad I got a C in the end. our entire class, like 85 percent of us was called into the room next door to be told we were all doing things wrong and he thought it was because his new way of teaching. So he did take the time to help us each out and make sure we passed.
Really amazing teacher passionate about his work. If you don't like group work do not take his class because we work with one group the entire semester and do a final group project with them. No tests just online quizzes that are a little hard but it's open book so it's not so bad.
Mr. Lorenz is truly an inspirational professor. HE CARES- about you and your grade, college experience, career path. If you plan on entering the workforce as a teacher, at any grade level, I highly suggest taking his class. He does come from a Montessori background so his class is a different style. As long as you listen and engage, you'll pass.
Needed more than one textbook, but it was never used. Group discussions every class. D2L assignments are unclear and graded based on group discussions. Weird class, I hated it.
His class was amazing everything was so clear for me. If you didn't understand anything he encouraged you to ask after class or see him in his office. But you do need access to a computer at home because tests and quizzes are online.
Norman is so inspiring! I absolutely loved this class. He doesn't formulate the class like anything your used. Each student has their own lens in which the class is designed. Make sure you know your desired career path because everything you do will be through that lens. Norman is kind, understanding, & thoughtful. He loves to teach & it shows.
Norman was an amazing professor. He made the class fun and easy. The quizzes are easy and there are no tests. The final is a group presentation but it is extremely easy and you get comfortable with your peers. I loved that class. Norman is caring and wants every one of his students to pass. I recommend him to everyone!
He's a good person but as a teacher, I would not recommend him. Everything is online (Canavas), he doesn't give examples when it comes to assignments, everything is way over complicated, and in class we just do group work. The "lectures" he gives have nothing to do with the class. I wish I hadn't taken the class.
His lectures are completely irrelevant, its like he wants to give an inspirational speech every class but does not care about the classes content. He talks poorly about the other professors at the school but at least they focus on their curriculum! He takes great pride in having all class resources online too bad he just ripped them all from others
The questions on his homework assignments are written as horrible run-on sentences and you have to google the answers to his quizzes. He claims he cares and will help if you ask, a group of us asked and he went on an irrelevant rant about society. He thinks he's being deep but really he's just avoiding answering whatever question you just asked.
Quizzes are open book, but the questions are not relative to the reading. Those quizzes really drop your grades. You might think that this class is easy but it is completely different from what you might expect
working toward new teaching style/ hasn't worked out the kinks. online homework that didnt come from class material, so 1. difficult/time consuming 2. what you learn in class was never solidified. WORST THING is that you ONLY learn one stage of lifespan bc he splits you into groups for the semester. My group learned about 2 theorists. THATS IT???
Professor Lorenz is an inspiring person who uses the Human Development course curriculum as a launching pad to help his students develop as humans. He consistently connects the class material to our personal experiences and career paths.
Professor Lorenz is a great person and very inspirational in a lot of ways but his quizzes are ridiculous. All the chapter readings have nothing to do with the quizzes and therefore when you take the quizzes don't be upset if you get a bad grade. The quizzes will just pull your grade down very fast. So beware. Group Presentation Project at End.
Amazing professor! his main goal is to help you thrive as a student and get where you need to go. He makes everything into real world perspective and relatable. He also always talks about his family and achievements within the district, making it a lot easier to rely on him for help
Dr. Lorenz is passionate about education & you can tell during his lectures. His teaching method mirrors Montessori. Quizzes & discussion boards were pretty easy if you read the material. Although one of the units skipped ahead, just communicate & hell give you credit where its due. Come prepared with your critical thinking for this class!
First was a bit strange they way he teaches, however it got better as time went on, i really enjoyed the class, very interesting topics and discussions. Overall, very good class to take
Class was ok. The group project was interesting. Quizes were ridiculously hard and irrelevant. His teaching style is different, but you easily adjust to it. Get all the points you can, it adds up at the end. Didn't learn a whole lot, but the experience was cool.
Best professor I have taken thus far. Professor Lorenz truly cares about his students. You have a major group presentation that will be your final. This will be presented on Prezi (begin ASAP). A few quizzes are given here and there. Participation is definitely KEY to passing! He looks for this as a final grade as well. Quizzes semi-difficult. GL!
perfect professor share personal life experiences
This class is like no other that I have taken. You work in groups and the class is driven by these groups. We all teach each other. Norman is not the "Professor", he is there simply to guide you as you accumulate knowledge and share it. He's very inspirational and thought provoking. One 25 min presentation at the end, DONT START IT LATE (doable)
I love the way Norman structured this class. I was skeptical at first but I learned so much more with his style of teaching. You will work in a group for most of the class and his class is based off of learning from your fellow peers. It is a lot of group work but just stick it out and you wont be sorry. Honestly the best teacher I have ever had.
I thought this was going to be a hard class but it really wasn't. You will be in a group all semester working with others so be prepared. Do not, I repeat do not procrastinate when he gives you your final(it is an oral group presentation) , always be ahead of it. Professor keeps in contact outside of class very well. I highly recommend him.
He's a great professor and the way he talks is motivational. The quizzes are done online and are usually not found in the online textbook or quizlet. During the entire semester we were in groups and had a 25 minute group presentation as our final done on prezi.
He's a nice prof and easy to talk to. The way he structures his class is different from other classes I've been in, but it's to emulate real-life situations in the real world. It was hard to do the quizzes since we weren't taught what the material was and was forced to look it up online with no definite way to find those answers.
This is the most poorly structured class I have ever taken. His syllabus is nearly 10 pages long, most of which contain useless information about assignments that make no sense. He's a nice and genuine person, but he treats the class more like his audience than a classroom.
don't get me wrong, he's a nice guy who cares a lot about u as a person, BUT his class has nothing to do w/ the material he assigns online, in class he talks abt his life stories & expects u to know everything abt the lifespan through the online reading & quizzes which are barely passable b/c the answers are NOT in the text, I relied on quizlet :(
A lot of discussion boards, quizzes, assignments online, group project that is the whole semester long. The quizzes are HARD and many people get a B or lower because of the quizzes but class is pretty chill. All of the work is online, no exams in this class but theres some extra credit offered. Topics may be irrelevant I did not learn much.
Okay professor. Theres a discussion board and quiz for every chapter but they are both online and super easy. Theres no exams in class. CUlminating presentation thats okay. The only thing is that the lectures are taught by the students in groups. we analyzed a quote, watched ted talk, and then got into groups not necessary to go to class
Very open to talking and getting to know students. A few simple discussions and quizzes all due at the end of the months... One big group project but its super simple if you just read the criteria needed.
Norman is the kindest sweetest professor that I have ever had. He actually cares about his students and his class is really not that hard. The plus is that you get to work in a group but pleas choose a group that is not so large, it will be easier for you. He gives you lots of time to do assignments and he is always availble outside of class!
He is a great professor and I actually learned a lot in class.
His instructions are always unclear. His class structure makes no sense. It's basically an online class, but you have to show up. His quizzes have nothing to do with the lectures or textbook. I didn't learn anything from this class. I was only able to get an A due to "sciemce" The quizzes are insanely hard. He grades really hard too. Skip pls.
Mr. Lorenz is an amazing professor! You really just have to give it your all in class and with the assignments he gives you. If you set your mind to it and are passionate about the course you're taking with him, you'll be completely fine! He really is someone I appreciate as a person and teacher. He loves and cares about all his students!
This class, especially with this professor, is an easy A. He makes sure his students pass and he is lenient. He tells you the due dates of the assignments ahead of time and most of the work is mainly group work. There is no midterms or finals. Just a group presentation towards the end of the semester. Take him, you won't regret it.
Took his class Fall '19. Very caring and open professor. GROUP WORK HEAVY. His class has very emotional topics so be ready to face your personal realities. Rants often. He uses his own book for the class and it has absolutely no correlation to his quizzes so good luck. Show up anyway and do the work, easy pass. If you fail you just didn't care.
Dr. Norman is by far my favorite Professor. He is very compassionate and caring for his students. He goes above and beyond to make sure you get the help and resources you need to pass not only in his class but in your personal life. Highly recommended.
10/10 recommend taking this class with Norman. Amazing professor who genuinely cares about each of his students. Literally went step by step with each student to make sure they understood the work.
Took him for Spring '21 and didn't regret taking him. Though he talks A LOT during his lectures, his course material makes up for it- NO QUIZZES, TESTS, but a semester-long group project which is easy. As a group, you only do worksheets, notes, and other easy things. Take his class if you can, he's lenient, nice, and caring towards his students.
Me and 2 others from my group ended up dropping the class. He is a nice guy and really wants his students to succeed but his instructions aren't clear. Everyone was confused on what to do and he wasn't much help in explaining things. He wasted so much class time talk about other things. 2 weeks in and never talked about psychology only the syllabus
Honestly so many people dropped it because he is the most confusing teacher you could have. Never talks about anything useful during class times. He is an easy grader, you will pass. Not worth the stress though. His assignments and directions are always unclear and you will never know what youre doing every week. Most confusing online class ever!
One of the ratings I found so relatable about him was he treats his students as his audience. You are forced to sit there and listen to him babble about stuff that has nothing to do with his course and more about how proud he is that he did so many things in life. He is confusing and I would not recommend him if you crack under stress.
Very confusing professor. During his lectures he talks a lot about himself and what he did in life. His instructions for assignments were always confusing. One long semester group project that everyone in the group was confused about. No exams or homework. He's a super nice guy but overall his instructions were confusing and unclear. Would not rec.
Professor Lorenz was my favorite Professor at Sac City. He really cares about his students, and has a personal connection with his curriculum, and draws you to be interested with the course. He graded work promptly, was instructive and helpful when necessary, and ran a great class. My favorite online class so far.
Really supportive and caring professor! Absolutely an easy class if you put in the time and effort. No exams or quizzes but homework heavy and a semester long group project. The class is very group oriented so be prepared for that. Lorenz is very understanding and open to communication so don't be afraid to ask questions or help!
Norman is great in that he is available, nonjudgmental, and forgiving in terms of due dates. He provides many lots of resources; don't be overwhelmed! His written instructions can be loquacious, so ask him for clarification! He does encourage participation and trust me, the class is easier if you engage. I'm glad he was my professor for this class.
I absolutely enjoyed this class. Professor Norman actually cares about your education. Gives great feedback and makes sure you understand the material. Teaches in a way that's easy to comprehend. Would 100% attend his class again. Thank you Professor for being amazing!
Great professor.
I took INDIS313 Freshmen Seminar by him. Unclear instructions, him talking about himself and his Montessori career only. One group project where nobody knew what he wanted from us, easy to reach but very unclear feedback. Daily quotes, ted talk videos but zero info abt campus resources, he wasn't a good fit for this class.
God Professor, very kind and wants to see his students succeed.
This class was one of the weirdest ones I've ever taken. I felt I didn't learn anything to do with psych as it was mostly self-teaching by reading the online textbook. Professor went off topic many times and played random ted talks in class. Also assigned a semester long group project that was confusing for everyone. Not too much homework though.
The course is easy to pass but I feel like I didn't learn much, his in person lectures don't relate to the content of the course. He's very caring and makes sure his students feel welcome and important. Assignments are confusing and so are group projects. Be prepared to work in groups.
Class made no sense. Didn't learn much. During lectures he just talked about himself. The whole class revolved around a group project that was so confusing. I got an A so it's whatever but I wouldn't recommend this class.
He was super nice and really wants everyone to succeed. The whole semester you really are doing a group project.
Amazing class. The professor has put forth a lot of effort in creating a very enriching curriculum. Heavy workload (lots of material to cover) but it's definitely worth it if it interests you! None of the assignments are just busy work but are rather designed to support the curriculum.
