He helps you as long as you put some effort in. His class can get really boring though because he gets too much into the detail that you dont need to know. He can also be unclear about whats on tests and the questions can be tricky but its multiple choice

lab is mandatory and lecture is optional. gives notes on disk. tests are muliple choice and are somewhat tricky but if you study you will be ok. lecture helps will tell you what to study for test and what not to study. overall easy class n a nice guy

THis teacher rocks. His labs are fun, lectures give you lots of info. And he tells you what to study for the day before the test when he goes over it in class. Way nice and friendly guy. Take him you won't regret it.

This teacher is a nice guy, BUT his tests are the hardest I've ever taken.He is tricky with his wording on the tests.He expects you to think like a Dr.He does have a fair grading scale. He is helpful when asked, knows his stuff, but can be confusing. I passed his class, but wouldn't take him again.

Dr. Marten is very approachable and always willing to answer his students' questions. He lectures from powerpoint slides. His tests are fair. Great teacher!

This is a complicated class. Lab is an easy A, bio class requires heavy studying. Study his notes for the test, just read book for clarity. I have a 4.0 & it was very difficult. Prof. is easy going but disorganized. Check your test scores to make sure he gave you the correct score - he gets distracted and makes mistakes.

He gives notes on a disk. this is a tough subject, not him. he will grade on a curve sometimes and it is possible to get an A in his class. i started out with a low B and Ended up with an A, his lab final is easy cause he tells you what to memorize on the pig and what veins/arteries to remember. he will do what ever he can to help you get an A.

Professor is a nice guy. Tests are difficult but do-able. When asked a question, prof. is thorough in his answer. Tough subject -be prepared to study.

He is a great teacher. Pretty much anything that you need to know for the tests are on the disks that he passes out. It is a challenging subject but he does everything he can to make it as easy as possible. He tells you exactly what you need to study and I thought he was wonderful. Put in the work and memorize!

great teacher, very helpful and knowledgeable, answers questions thoroughly, not an easy A but Micor shouldn't be, if you don't do the work you won't succeed. He's fair doesn't grade on a curve but one of the coolest science teachers I've ever had.

Hard class, doesnt have a good hold of the subject yet. Maybe he will be better the next semester. Study guides were given the weekend before the test, not enough time to study for his tests.

Great teacher! Wasn't sure at first but once he weeds out the slackers, he is very helpful. Little unorganized since it is his first semester. But goes WAY out of his way to help his students, even doing a review for the final on a Sunday! Very fair in grading, HARD subject! Study hard and you will do fine.

Hard class, he tries so hard to make it possible to pass. Half the class dropped, but thats in every Micro class. Not organized yet. Not the hardest teacher, not the easiest either.

The class is hard, but Mr. Marten will go out of his way to help you with any questions or concerns about the class. Take the quizzes at the start of the class. If your total quiz score is higher than your lowest test score, he will replace it. Trust me, it helped me a lot. Recommended.

Willing to explain any questions after class but usually not during class due to time constraints. Very laid back and easy going.

Very very good teacher! his power points are so helpful and he goes at a steady, not too fast pace in lecture. The quizzes really helped and I truly enjoyed coming to class every day!

Great professor! Will explain something until you understand, even if you are the only one who still doesn't get it. Has so much patients and never makes you feel dumb if you don't get it. Doesn't just reexplain it the same way but will use different analogies til he hits something that makes sense to you. Not an easy class but the best for micro

Earned my BS in Chemistry 14 years ago and got my BSN last year but still want to take a good refresher course in physiology. I highly recommend this professor. He's enthusiastic and loves to teach!! He earns my utmost respect for truly enjoy the art of teaching!!! Take his class you'll learn much more than before

Great Teacher. You can tell he loves to teach and wants you to do well. Make sure you study because his tests are hard. The other work in class help balance out the test scores as long as you do reasonably well on the test. I felt lucky to have him as my teacher.

AMAZING TEACHER!!! makes things stick he is the best for phso.he is extremely nice and very patient. online class was 4 tests and final and quizzes, homework, case studies, and labs as long as you survive tests and do everything else you should do great, make sure u listen to lectures, its not boring!

all i can say is...take him!!! not by any means an easy class, but i promise if you take him you will definitely enjoy it!! always willing to explain, never gets angry or impatient if you don't understand, one of the best teachers i've had at MP, and i've had a lot! very informative, would take more of his classes, but i'm done

Professor Marten is one of the best. He is always willing to help his students. I took online Physio and barely got an A. He records the lectures so you can listen to them anytime. Still I would try to avoid online physio. Tests are tricky, but the other loads of work online are easy. Just be prepared to work your butt off and don't fall behind

Wonderful, wonderful man. Patient, explains things exactly, no surprises on tests that are unfair. He'll keep you until the scheduled end of class, and it's not easy by any means, but you really learn and it's a great experience. I would take him again if I could. HIGHLY recommended! Best teacher I've had at Moorpark yet!

Fantastic teacher! knows the subject inside and out. The class itself is by no means an easy ride but he truly cares about his students. The class itself is difficult but if you put the work in all semester long, it is worth it at the end. Take him! you won't regret it.

Great teacher, but assigns too much work without realizing it. Very willing to help if asked and adheres to schedule so you know when work is due. Got a C, but am an A student.4-5 chapters per test in detail and invents scenarios and asks questions about his own pictures. Only got a C in his physio and micro.

Nice teacher, avail. for extra explanation and attempts to meet all the needs of the students. One big complaint is that his online homework,quizzes,&tests are way out of context with his lectures and the book. Be prepared to do extra research just to find out what his point of view of the question is and how to answer it, and trick questions!

very helpfull teacher! always was willing to meet durring office hours to help me better understand the subject. pysiology is a hard subject no matter who you take it with but i would definitely recommend him. already planning to take him again for micro.

Absolutely wonderful professor. Always makes sure to check to make sure everyone understands before moving on. By no means an easy class, and an intense effort is needed to do well. He is always willing to help during class or during his posted office hour. Take advantage of those and you'll do great!

I had him for two classes and I would definitely take his class again. He is a very helpful teacher and knows the subject well. He's not by any means an easy teacher, but that's what makes him a good teacher.

Incredible teacher! I was dreading taking this class and ended up taking him. I could not be happier! He was ALWAYS willing to help during office hours. He might be the nicest teacher I've ever taken at the school. I recommend him to all of my friends who are taking this course. The tests are hard only because the class is hard- I def. recommend!!!

Professor Marten knows microbiology very well, and you can tell he loves the subject. He's very willing to explain. His tests are difficult and do require studying and making use of his study guides, but they are doable. If you are willing to put in the work (and a great deal of it), then you will be able to pass this class

Professor Marten is extremely helpful, loves teaching micro, and is very clear during lecture & lab. Always asks if everyone is understanding prior to moving on. The material is VERY difficult. I've never studied so hard! But he makes passing the class possible. Attend lecture, pay attention, do his study guides & review notes/powerpt! I recommend!

Excellent, but difficult teacher. An A is feasible, but will be a lot of work. Anticipate what the essay questions on the test will be in class (he drops hints). I studied for 6 straight hours before each test and was able to pull out an A on most of them. Nice, super helpful, and explains the material very well. His class is work, however.

Be sure to have a schedule that can accommodate the workload of this class. While the class is intense, Professor Marten doesn't try to surprise you with material found outside of the course. I personally found that the slides and handouts provided were sufficient for tests. Use office hours wisely and focus on concepts rather than memorization.

Dr. Marten is extremely helpful, makes himself available to all students and provides everyone with sufficient information for his tests. The class is very demanding and requires personal motivation to stay on track. In order to succeed in this class, he wants you to want and show your effort to earn a certain grade. As long as you try, he'll help!

Great coverage of basics and easy to follow. When it comes to studying you will have your plate full.

Expect a quiz every week: 5 questions, so 45 is a B, & missing more than one really adds up. The exams themselves are murderously hard, but doable if you spend enough time studying. Combo multiple choice and some conceptual essays. Lab bench group work, plus group projects and presentation, and a solo presentation disease report. Helpful teacher.

This class made me fall in love with Microbiology and Prof Marten helped me with that! He is challenging but if you work hard, study often and persevere you can get a good grade. Being enthusiastic about the class only helps! My lab class loved him so much we all bought him a present at the end of the semester - I think that says it all! Miss him!

Professor Marten is amazing. He is extremely knowledgeable in these subjects and he 100% knows what he is talking about. He gives you all the material you need to succeed. His lectures are heavy and you will need to review it, but its very manageable. His office is always open & he will always respond back to emails in a timely manner. Very caring!

Dr. Marten is really great! I'm not sure why the negative feedback? His lectures are long but he cracks jokes if you pay attention and he really lights up if you engage with the material. He wants everyone to succeed. Super helpful in lab and doesn't micromanage. Really not as bad as the syllabus makes it seem. Make friends with your lab bench.

He is not a bad professor. Most students go into micro (and reading Dr. Martens rate my professor review) and already create a difficulty level in their mind. My suggestion is to focus only on what he says during the lecture and read the book if you absolutely do not understand what he taught. This class is challenging but doable. I got a high A!

Took him for the 8-week summer session and he was great! There's definitely a lot of work, but he grades quite fairly, so I'd say that the work is basically free points if you put in an honest effort. He gives you everything you need to succeed in the class, always welcomes questions, and makes the class genuinely enjoyable. :)

summer class 1-2 quiz everyday, can work together. 2 labs/day, take the whole time. 5 exams, no drop. 2 drop for each lecture & lab quiz 1 for chem quizzes, Qs straight from book. study guides are helpful complete it after lecture! 1 disease presentation, don't be so nervous abt this! easy grader, dont let bad reviews throw you off, hes vv helpful!

This professor was actually really good. The class it's self is diffcult but he doesn't make it harder than it needs to be. You need to study the material to pass you can't just wing it or expect to only know the lecture slides you do actually need to make an attempt to understand it. I would take him again, very accessible outside of class.

The class is difficult but professor Marten is great! Very accessible with his office hours which is especially helpful before exams. Reviewing his study guides helped immensely. He is funny and makes class engaging.

pretty chill and semi-lenient with deadlines. exams had basically everything on the study guide. if you have any questions he'll happily answer even if its a little off topic. he will mention when a specific slide/concept will be on the next exam. make sure u understand what and why u are doing something in lab, and the lab exam will be no biggie.

A lot of these reviews are biased. He is very organized and clear about what is expected of you. Yes you will have to work hard- it's microbiology. I have learning disabilities that make classes like these a challenge but felt that with his help (especially in office hours!!), I was able to succeed. Ask questions and show up!!!

Gives good feedback and promotes active discussion by asking questions to keep the class engaged. Microbiology is tough, you need to put in the work. Can't just show up and expect to do well. Ask him questions and he'll gladly help!

Micro is not easy, but Professor Marten makes it accessible. He is always ready to answer questions and doesn't even mind if those questions go off into the weeds a bit. Lab/chem/lecture quizzes everyday, but you are allowed to work together as a bench so they dont end up being that tough. I would definitely take this class again. He is funny too!
