Don't bother studying your cases for the tests. He doesn't put them on the test! But overall a great professor.

No briefs, home work, midterm and a final.doesn't watch attendance.make sure to read cases because he randomly pick on people. Take notes. cases not on test, need to know definitions and priciples behind laws. he very indept, knows what he is talking about.

He makes everything clear but is very strict on the readings .Overall a good professor there is no paper for his class only two exams.
2 tests, Midterm and Final. Both worth 50% of your grade. MAy work in your favor or may noy not. Fail the midterm then take a walk to the registrar and withdraw. From what I remember the midterm was okay as far as difficulty goes, but the final was hard
This professor is what every professor wants to be.He is strict without being a pain in ***. Fun wtihout being corny and I guarantee you will leave his class having actually learned something.
One of the best professors I have ever taken!
Brilliant professor! Explains everything REALLY well! Encourages you to think for yourself. Who better to teach Constitutional Law than a professor who is also a lawyer and has presented cases to the U.S. Supreme Court! A must-take class!
I couldn't have been luckier. He was the only thing i had to look forward to this semester. If you want to learn a lot while being treated like an adult - This is your man. ATTENDANCE NOT MANDATORY!!!!!!!
Without having gone to law school(yet),this is the kind of professor I expect to find and the structure I would guess is similar. This man knows his stuff inside and out. If your looking for a non nonsense law class and you have the maturity and ability.
WOW! WHAT CAN I SAY. HIS TEACHING STYLE SPEAKS FOR ITSELF. HE IS A REAL PROFESSOR. HE LETS YOU GROW TO BE MATURE IN HIS CLASS WITHOUT HOUNDING YOU. EITHER YOU DO IT OR YOU DONT. COLLEGE LEVEL MATURITY. GREAT CLASS-LEARNED ALOT ABOUT THE TOPIC AND SELF.
Good teacher. knows what hes talking about. comes off mean at first but hes alright. Test are alright have to pay attention in class. Didn't give us a paper or make us do briefs but there are only two tests...passed wit a b n got a 66 on the midterm
Very knowledgable
Great law professor. Didn't make us brief cases, but expected individuals to be knowledgeable of them. Enjoyed it!
Excellent Professor. Higher level of teaching, higher level of work expected. Will explain cases clearly and expects you to READ before class. Very FAIR grader. Will learn a LOT.
One of the best classes I have ever taken! Explains cases well - teaches at college level! I HIGHLY recommend this professor!
GOD MUST HAVE SENT AN ANGEL FROM HEAVEN DOWN TO JOHN JAY, HE IS THE BEST LAW PROF. I HAVE EVER HAD, TEACHES AT COLLEGE LEVEL, KNOWS THE MATERIAL, AND TREATS YOU LIKE AN ADULT, DOES NOT HOUND YOU, BUT EXPECTS YOU TO KNW ALL THE MATERIAL, EXCELLENT PROF. TAKE HIM YOU WILL LEARN THE U.S CONST. FAST....
Overall this is the best prof. at john jay. You must pay close attention to his lecture and read the cases at home to be prepare for his class. He also shut down people in the class if they say incorect information. Don't try to leave the class or he will blow up your spot, in front of the class.
He is the most intelligent man other than my father that i have ever met. He is an absolute genius. Treats students like adults and is absolutely fair. Gives only 2 exams (midterm and final). Read all the cases and if you answer correct will never have to do paper.
Very knowledgeble...knows what he is talking about..Don't try to leave his class in the middle of his lecture...He will tell u about it and make you feel very very embarrassed!
Easy class to pass. He only give two exams and if you study your notes you will pass the test with a high grade. He does not ask for much and is also a fair grader, trust me!
He is very easy and helpful. He gives only two exams and both exams are very easy. No homework and no papers, but you will have to read some cases. Minimum 5 and the cases are not that long. Concentrate only on the two exams because they determined your grade in the class.
Great Prof. He give a final and Midterm. Just pay attention in his class he will tell u everything u need to know. He's great. Take good notes, get an A
Great Professor. Knows his stuff cold, will explain it & is down to business. He is also a lawyer and will answer any law questions you have. CAVEAT: DO NOT LEAVE HIS CLASS EARLY! He takes it very personal, he will follow you down the hallway and make you take your name off the attendance sheet, while he is in the middle of the class!
OMG he hates when someone leaves in the middle of class. He told a girl who got a call from her son to SIT DOWN she said she had to take the call and he said again SIT DOWN!! she left anyways. He teaches freedom of speech, he really needs to practice it. We are adults!!!!! overall he is a good prof. he's longwinded so be ready to get some zzzzzz's
Nice guy- very boring though. Don't leave his class early--he goes NUTS. This class is doable--just really dreadful at night. Does not let you leave early.
Loves to hear himself talk. Hard to get a question in edgewise. Lectures very fast must be a speed writer to keep up. Freaks out if you get up to go to the bathroom ( uh..when ya gotta go..ya gotta go)isnt he violating our CONSTITUTIONAL RIGHTS! otherwise class consists of one mid term and 1 final. Take good notes is a MUST or you ont do good.
Boring, but at least he knows what he teaches. Smart man, but makes a big deal if you leave class early. Exams based strictly on his notes, and cases you have to read, which isn't much reading. Does not give homework or term papers unless he suspects class is not doing reading. Will pick students randomly to discuss reading. Overall good pro.
This was my second time taking the course due to my previous prof. flaking out on a make-up final. The guy knows his stuff and gets straight down to business. He managed to make the class somewhat interesting and with just a midterm and a final exam, this was a much better experience.
Really knows his stuff - allows all questions - and can answer them cold too - no paper (yea!)- fair grader - go for it

ONE OF JOHN JAY'S BEST PROFESSOR. HE GIVES TWO EXAMS A MIDTERM AND A FINAL, THATS IT. AND THEY ARE VERY EASY I DID NOT STUDY FOR EITHER AND I GOT AN B+ FOR THE SEMESTER.
TAKE OLCH!!! HE IS BY FAR THE PROF U MUST TAKE FOR LAW! HE MAKES CLASS INTERESTING AND EXCITING. ANSWERS ALL QUESTIONS AND MAKES CLASS ENJOY IT. NO PAPER, MIDTERM AND FINAL ARE FROM NOTES AND HE GIVES A REVIEW FOR BOTH. VERY KNOWLEDGABLE. U WILL DO GOOD IF YOU READ THE SHORT CASES. IT A BREEZE!!
Prof.Olch is an awesome professor. The best way to describe him - a walking encylcopedia. This man has the subject matter, completely memorized. He explains the law in a way that everyone can understand.Read the cases he will call on you and keep asking the same person questions until he's satisfied. If u are not prepared, you loose credit. 2 tests
BEST PROF.I AM LAZY AND I GOT AN A SO HE IS THE MOST CLEAR LAW PROF I EVER TOOK HE EXPLAINS EVERYTHING SO U UNDERSTAND HE IS A MUST TAKE
I am very lazy student, but this guy makes the class interesting, he is very educated and he knows his material, you will actually learn something, also he is very cool, no homework and no briefs when i had him, his book is awsome too, only cases needed for that semester. Midterm and Final, very fair and grading is not bad either.
He is a very good professor. He knows what he is talking about and he explains things very well. His class is very easy if you pay attention. There are only 2 exams which he gives you a review sheet for. And he has absolutely no problem explaining anything. I've been trying to find another class in which he teaches since.
This is a great prof. He is extremly funny and has a lot of knowledge on the subject. 1 midterm 1final that's it. Explains topics in great detail. Answers ? that you have on your mind without u asking.Time well spent in this class. Sometimes ends class early.
Wow, whoever said Professor Olch is a "walking encyclopedia" was right! The guy knows everything! Teaches in a very clear, concise manner. Class is interesting; attendance is optional, but everyone still showed up. Two exams, mostly essay/definition format. Not hard; all material is reviewed sufficiently. Exceptional class!
Mr. Olch knows what he is talking about but he doesn't know how to reach his students. He speaks for 2 hrs straight and you have to guess what to keep notes on. There are only 2 exams, Midterm and Final, no extra credit and ABSOLUTELY NO REVIEW,the 5 min. review he gives might as well not have one. Many of the students have to take the class over.
easy A just pay attention in class
This professor is pretty easy, but you really have to overcome your temptation to fall asleep. He is very monotone and blahh. I guess as long as you can stay awake during his class, you'll do fine. There are just gives 2 tests, midterm and final, but don't let that get you, there are much more interesting and challenging professors in John Jay that
If you're not used to taking free style notes then this class might be a challenge. He does talk alot but all the topics are explained clearly. Doesn't use the text much, so take REALLY good notes. You need to know how to apply it to his exams (essay, short answer, definitions). Two tests. I would recommend him.
Very knowledgable professor. 2 exams - gives a review of things that will be on the exams. Class can be boring at times but try not to lose focus. Great class!!!
Excellent professor. He is very knowlegable and clear. He makes sure that students understand what he has went over. His exams are very fair. He gives reviews and answers all questions. What more do you want. Come to class, pay attention, take good notes, and study for his exams, and you will b e fine. I got an A.
Olch may appear to be boring, but he knows his stuff great professor got an A.
talks, talks, talks but he knows he stuff!! Clear explainations, lots of writing. Not good on reviews but once you do the midterm you know what to expect in the final!!
At first i didnt like him too much but he really is a good professor. 1 midterm and 1 final and thats what your grade is based on. He makes all of the cases very clear and its an easy A if eyou study the notes for the midterm and final. He is a lil bit snotty when you ask him a question tho
Great prof, great class. All what it entails is that you should listen and take note. I recommend him as a constitutional law professor.
Professor Olch is true to his profession! He's an amazing teacher, knows his stuff, gives a mid-term and final. If you take good notes you'll pass with an "A". He's accessible before and after class. Such a nice person made Constitutional Law class worth going to!
Prof Olch is fantastic. If you pay attention and read the cases you will do just fine. No class briefs required if you read. That's the key to his class, read and participate when asked. He is very knowledgeable and a will captivate you.
He is one of the best professors at John Jay. He is well versed on all aspects of the Constitution and his lectures are well structured. I'm actually going to miss his class.
I STRONGLY SUGGEST YOU TAKE HIM. One of the easiest professors in John Jay. Attendance isn't mandatory. As long as you read over the cases you'll do fine. He gives an excellent review for both exams. I got an A and rarely went to his class. He knows what he's talking about but his voice can put you to sleep. Read the cases and you'll do fine.
I agree with everyone that has commented before me. He is amazing and not hard at all. Just do your readings and take good notes and you will pass.
I still don't know what I'm getting in his class don't buy the book is pointless to pay 80 dollars for a book he wrote when nothing on the book is necessary go online and get it. this guy knows his stuff he's very smart but he only give 2 exams which screws you over because that's what he grades you on. good luck think about it first day u can drop
He has one style of teaching which is dry. Two exams, mid-term and final, the book is kinda useless, go online for you info. But he takes his time to clarify any issues you may have, overall he is a good professor.
Don't buy the textbook its useless as you can get the case briefings online. Other than that he only gives 2 exams and attendance isnt mandatory but you still have to know your definitions especially focus on Due Process and criminal court system. Read and review definitions and you'll do fine! Got a B and I hardly went to class
I LOVE THIS PROFESSOR, HE'S THE GREATEST MAN IN JOHN JAY HISTORY, HES SAMRT, INTELLIGENT AND RELATES THE MATERIAL OUTSIDE THE BOOK CONTENTS, TAKE NOTES AND U GET A GOOD GRADE, JUS ONE PORBLEM, OLCH U NEED TO TEACH MORE THAN JUST LAW 203 SO I CAN TAKE U AGAIN FOR A DIFFERENT CLASS LOLL.. EXCELLENT TEACHING SKILLS, AND HE'S THE MAN OF JOHNJAY....
He's a great professor, don't buy the text as its not needed for his class, all the cases you could find them on wiki and you only read cases up to the midterm. If you take good notes its an easy A. Only two exams for his class and he makes the class fun even if he talks and goes on a bit much its still worth it
VERY SMART!!! Just pay attention and take good notes... I didn't really study but still manage to get an A..
What a great proffessor. He's is super smart, he can answer any question you throw at him and he's as laid back as a person can be, without being dead. He does tend to go on a bit, but everything he says is relevant to today's law and the class. I would really love to take him again for another class!
Grades are based on midterm & final only. Both tests are short answers & essay questions (no multiple choice!). His lectures are informative & clear. The professor is very laid back & answered every question thrown at him with clarity, detail & without protest. I recommend him to anyone not afraid of studying a little harder for exams.
From all the reviews you would believe professor olch is a great professor, but that's false. I took his law 203 class based on these reviews and I regret it, he is sooooo boring, no notes are given he just talks the whole class, he only gives a midterm and final. If you fail the final you basically fail his class, and attendance is mandatory!
GOOD PROF! Pay attention and study reviews youll do just fine. I DIDNT EVEN PURCHES THE TEXT BOOK, just find cases online. B+
Easiest class I had. Just PAY ATTENTION AND BE ON TIME and you will do fine. Reading some of the critiques, its sad that people DID NOT PAY ATTENTION to class. Textbook is optional IMO, can get cases from the internet. One of the best law professor in JJ. Gentleman and a scholar, the professor knows his stuff and it shows.
Very intelligent professor. He is laid back but not in the least bit boring. He is very detailed and knowledgeable! I enjoyed his lectures and he can be quite funny at times. Only midterm and final giving which you can pass because he gives you all the necessary materials to do so. Will grade you fairly. HE ROCKS!
Lecture class. Informative if you have never had the material. Attendance is def not mandatory he even says so the first day. Book is optional, all cases are online. Very laid back class.
I would most certainly recommend this professor.A midterm and final. His test are based exactly on what he talks about in class.Failing is a matter of you never showing up to class.
By far, the most objective and apolitical prof in JJay. Highly recommended if you are tired of being spoon-fed propaganda. He is dry, class can be boring if you are not interested in Con Law, but you will formulate your own opinion. One midterm, one final, some cases, that is it.
Gentleman and a Scholar, he answers all questions efficiently. As a lawyer he might be boring for some, however if you are serious it's not a bad class. Midterm for 33%, final is 67%. In addition there was a list of terms due at the end of the semester, no other assignments, textbook wasn't needed. I highly recommend this professor.
He is the most boring professor I have ever had. If you miss class you will do horrible on the exam. His teaching technique is not appropriate for the undergraduate level. Students do not understand him and he does not explain thoroughly. Do not take this professor.
He is a GREAT professor. His teaching style can be at times boring but he is a fair grader!!! I did terrible on the midterm and still managed to passed with a B+. Just pay attention and take notes. No book necessary. Take him!!
All he gives is a sheet of vocabulary words before the exams.one midterm one final NO PAPER! 1st part of the exams you will have to write the words meaning, 2nd part he will give you a story and you will have to answer the questions. If you cannot memorize a couple of vocabulary words and read a couple of cases then definitely college isn't for you.
He's a great professor however his class was a little dry. You dont need the text book , however he may call on you and ask specific questions about a case. He only gives you a midterm/final and thats it. Pay close attention to black board he provides detailed information which will be on both exams. an easy B trust me he knows his stuff.
Hes a little boring however he's very informative he only gives a midterm and a final and may call on you once are twice in the class don't buy the text book you can go to the library and scan the whole thing
Look Professor Olch is a great professor. He knows A lot about law and is very clear. He only gives two test; Midterm and a Final. NO PAPERS! He'll give you words to study and very clear study outlines. It's up to you to actually study! It's college people, do not be lazy. If you study you'll do fine.
Very knowledgeable professor, a little boring. No multiple choice, just study definitions and cases and be able to explain in detail each on the test and you'll do fine.
Totally recommended! Take notes, and pay attention in the class and you have an easy A. There are two exams only. Study his definitions for sure because you will need then for exams. I wish I could take another class with him. Absolutely loved his lectures. Textbook not needed.
lectures are very long but very knowledgable and will learn a lot from him. only gives a midterm and a final, both long essay questions and vocal words from the semester. glossary due of words you learned throughout the semester are also due at the last day of class. attendance isn't required. funny guy sometimes and would take again.
Gave a midterm and a final. Required a glossary of legal terms that was 5% of the grade, but a requirement. No page minimum required. Tests are based off of real cases and you are going to need to predict what the outcome is based on the similar case discussed in class. Would definitely take him again, as all that is required is taking good notes
Don't judge a book by its cover. Older guy, always go to end of the class time, first seemed like it was going to all be straight boring from textbook, but so wrong! One of the best&favorite professors I've ever had. Lectures are extremely interesting and full of knowledge. Participating in this class is fun! Midterm & final only clear cut, notes!
Very intelligent professor, has a lot of background in law, attorney. Attendance is not part of your grade, although the tests are based on his lectures and not the book, so if you miss a class you are missing a plethora of information. I would definitely take him again for any other law class. Midterm, Final and Glossary. Glossary is mandatory!
Professor was great, the only thing was that the Final carries so much weight on your grade. His test are a bit tricky and difficult, his reviews don't help that much as well. His lectures were great tho, I learned a lot in them.
Prof Olch hands down is amazing. If you love history and want to get a better understanding of the United States constitution, then Prof Olch is your guy. He's extremely intelligent, knowledgeable and easy going. I've learned so much from this man. He gives only gives you two tests which is a midterm and final. I'd definetly take his class again
