Good Prof; doesn't use many teaching aids; Easy Tests
A little boring at times but an easy course overall (especially if you've already taken PSYC 3260 - there's a lot of overlap).
very easy exams, makes otherwise hard material easy to grasp, very helpful to students, would not hesitate to take another class, especially to boost gpa
good prof, knows a lot, can get sidetracked, once you get over his pacing back and forth it's ok; great if you already took memory with him--a lot of overlap. don't copy down slides--they are available (now in course kit). good exams, know some details!
Nice guy, but don't be fooled..his tests can be hard...need to read, read, read. His pacing back and forth made me dizzy.
good guy...always willing to help out his students. professional, caring, and upbeat about teaching. You'll never fall asleep in his class.
Very Good Prof. Explains the material in a way that is easy to understand. His exams are easy if you study but he tries to trick you so you got to read his questions very carefully
great prof! Awesome course!
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS-unless you can put up w/ long BORING lectures, too many complicated & confusing experiments, tricky MC & SA--you really have to know picky details like names, dates and he expects you to know every experiment he covered word for wor
i'm taking his cognition currently in summer school...his lectures are somewhat boring but his notesa are all available in the course kit which helps a lot...and the exams are better than i thought as long as u study!!
two words...PAINFULLY BORING. these glowing ratings are quite deceiving! he should post his lectures online instead of making us pay for the coursekit
Nice and understanding prof, but the way he teaches the course is just so flat and devoid of any intrigue.
Easy to understand. Gives out lecture notes. Two thumbs up.
Interesting but long lectures, he gets side tracked sometimes but overall an excellent teacher always willing to help. The course kit has all the slides and he makes more notes available to look at.

all i have to say is that i'm never taking this prof again.
drop this class now!!! unless you want to die of boredom!!
Easygoing personality, but not terribly knowledgeable (his favourite answer to most questions is some variation on "I don't know".) Be forewarned, he tests minutia like the names of psychologists, and s/a questions are tough.
Be prepared for his exams, he focuses big on names and small details that you don't even think to find in the smallest corner of a book..... his lectures are ok, although he does get sidetracked and often runs over time.
Norm is really a nice prof, however his lectures are a bit dry! He is easy to talk to and is understanding, this class was really rough for me, I wouldn't take another class with Dr. Park because he drags the lectures on and on and he can be unclear at times.
Very boring und humorless. Does not answer emails. Exams are very hard. He thinks he is something else.
awful, boring, rigid, ridiculous exams--nitpicks on really specific details--makes exams quite difficult. i would never ever take his courses again. EVER.
I received an A in his stats course but it's because I had to self-teach myself all the material. If the text wasn't as thorough as it was then I would not have understood a thing. His lectures are very unclear and yes, he's a dry teacher. I would not take another class of his again.
In 4 years I have never left during lecture or experienced bordom to this extent until his class. He exhales sleeping gas! Run your own cognition experiment on implicit memory and see how much information you can retain while sleeping. In his defence, cognition is the least exciting course in psyche
So bland...very blah. The lectures are quite boring; moreover, some of the experiments he goes over are quite confusing. His tests are fair, though he's big on researchers names and some nit-picky facts that seem quite useless when studying. Need to go to lectures to understand the lecture notes
Norm has alot of clinical knowledge and uses them in his class lectures. Test are fair. You definately need to attend lectures to understand his class notes. Those who found lectures boring probably didn;t do any of the readings. Very nice, accomodating, knowleable, passionate, and fair professor.
Professor is experienced and knows what he's talking about, although the lectures may drag on at times. Interesting personal experiences are brought in. Tests are fair and straightforward. You have to come to class to understand lecture notes.
Lectures were very interesting and intriguing! Loved the course, loved the Prof. Definitely would take another course with him.
The one thing you can definitely expect from this class is complete boredom. Absolute boredom. His tests are fair, but is picky with names and insignificant details. Need to go to the lectures to understand his notes. He can be quite unclear at times, but if you approach him with questions he'll help you out.
Very good professor
Sme of the other comments are unfair. He's a good prof and its a pretty interesting course. Tests are easy. Multiple choice questions are either from bold terms in text, or are the results of experiments he has discussed in the lecture notes.
He's knowledgeable and informative and willing to help. Stats sucks - but i'm glad i'm in this professor's class. The text is really helpful too.
Very Classy prof.
the man's boring, but mind you, so is the topic, i cant recall the last time i had an interesting lecturer for anything related to mathematics. he is very informative, helpful, takes his time to explain. he bell curves and for short answers, he divides wot he wants, eg. find mean etc. as oppose to other lectueres they just write solve.
Sticks to his slides like glue. I never got much out of the lectures. A REALLY GOOD strategy as a student would be to pre-read the chapters before class. He is a bit rigid but willing to listen. Be sure to learn the CONCEPTS or you won't have enough time on the test. For many of his questions you s/b able to answer at a glance w/out calculations.
People give him weak ratings but he's a good prof. Very knowledgeable, enthusiastic and even though his lectures can be a bit bland sometimes, what do you expect, Stats isn't exactly a party subject! I managed to get an A in his class and I haven't gotten an A in math since the 6th grade. He's also kind of adorable in how gullible he is. ;)
Very nice man, helpful and likeable. However, the course is HARD, exams are HARD, lectures are boring. He LOVES details (studies, results, millions of names to learn). One of the hardest psyc classes for sure.
at least 8 questions from yesterdays exam were from chapter (7) which was not covered in class (and we were not assigned to read). also we were asked to use edition 4 of the book while he used edition 3 all year in class. read chapter 7 for yourself if you dont believe me. we have to do something about this.

I had professor park for cognition and memory. by far the two most boring courses in psych. the tests were incredibly hard and overly complicated. the two worse course i've taken in 3 years at york!
Good professor, presents interactive material in clear, concise manner and answers students questions fully. Wants to ensure students understand the material he presents. Great prof -had him for statistics too! I dont know what these others are complaining about - maybe they should have studied first before writing their inaccurate statements.
Good prof!
Clear concise presentations. Brings his own experience to the classroom setting. Ensure everyone has a clear understanding of the concepts being discussed. Fair first exam.
Park is a very sweet man (very cute/funny in a dorky sort of way) The material is a little dull, but he's so enthusiastic about it that it helps keep the class awake. He has interesting stories about patients with brain damage. Tests aren't super easy, but they are fair. I would definitely take more classes with him
This course is challenging and he does not make it any easier to understand. I found the class dry and boring and the exams were on the difficult side. I would not recommend this class for a summer session.
course material can be dry @ points - but who cares this prof is hot!
Just finished writing the final exam. Worth 70% and hard as hell.
Final exam worth 70% and a ridiculous amount of information to sift through - the enitre course's infomration (8 Chapters) +2 articles + all lecture slides/notes. The exam ends up being 108 multiple choise and 3 short answer. What was he thinking?
Don't take the course if you don't have to. Unfair exam. Too much information.
Prof Park was a good Prof. He had fair tests. The material covered in the course was extensive but very doable. It was overall an enjoyable and interesting course. His voice could at times be monotonous.
Information overload - picks inconsequential M.C questions. Unfair.
Good prof - study hard.
This professor is about average. His explanations of the material is ok and the lectures are alright. There is in my opinion too much information in the course which consists of 2 tests. The midterm was worth 40% and the cumulative final was worth 60%. Since the course was difficult I felt I did learn a lot in it.
Boooooring lectures interesting material
Avoid! Very dry and information overload. Two exams, 40%/60%. Claims exams are 50/50 between textbook and lectures, but this is not true. Final exam 150 MC based on the textbook, 20 marks for SA from the lectures. MUST read text thoroughly and memorize studies from lecture slides (80-90 full slides per lecture). Don't count on an A in this class.
This class is ridiculously hard. Avoid at all costs. Dense material from textbook and even denser slides which are diff. from textbook. About 80-100 power points per class. Avoid!!!
Worst prof I ever had. He gave me the worst boredom headache every class. Cognition has a lot of material and concepts to begin with. It really makes it difficult when you have a prof that speaks in a montone voice and just reads off of slides. after a few classes in I had to stop going and just rely on my text.
Exams are completely unfair. Do not take his class.
He gives you 5 quizzes, 3/5 count towards your grade and are worth 20% each. Final is worth 40%. Lectures are pretty much straight from the text with a few additional things. You can do well by just studying the textbook and his online course notes. Be prepared to learn a LOT of information.
Grading: Takes the top 3/5 quiz marks; Teaching Style: Reads off slides, monotone, will use the full 3 hrs every week; Quizzes: 2/3 short answers need to be answered, mostly based on lecture material, MC is tricky; Exam: Will use questions from previous quizzes where people commonly made errors, much more emphasis on textbook material
Took psyc 3265 Memory with him 2012 w term. Lectures very boring, reads off slides, very dense material. I couldnt survive lectures n studied on my own, slides and text book. Managed to get an A doing that. Interesting material though!
Great professor! explains well, and is very devoted to his work. Definitely one of the hardest courses i've taken in psychology just becasue of the large content! 3/5 tests counted. And the final is worth 40%. Final focuses exactly about 50% from the book. But in class tests focus pretty much all from the lecture. But all in all a very nice prof!
Amazing PROF!! His method of teaching is the best, espci if you are seeking an A.
Approachable professor. Always happy to answer question before lecture, during lecture, after lecture. Don't have to memorize details. only key points. read the textbook (200 pages, not bad). Top 3/5 quizzes are counted. Final exam was straight forward. no hidden tricks. received A+ (attended all lecture, read over textbook once).
He is a really great prof. Be prepared to really know and understand the material in order to get an A. His tests (one every two weeks, 5 in total) are fair and he takes your highest three marks and averages them out. The last exam is worth 40%.
I really liked the information, found it really interesting. However, I found his class EXTREMELY BORING and for the most part he read off the slides. Couldn't stay awake. After second test I stopped going to lectures. Just read lecture slides and text book and finished with an A. He is a nice prof though and will help you if you need it :)
test are unfair, lectures are boring and his method of teaching is absolutely BORING!
Great prof. Don't expect him to entertain you. He is a professor and does his job great. Go to school to learn not just to pay for a degree. The material is interesting, he's very helpful. Go to class, read the books, print out the slides and bring to class. PAY ATTENTION. THe more engaged you get the easier it is. Sit at the front.
It's not a bird course. Take this class if you want to know more about the FUNCTIONS of the brain structures. Tests were fair. Final was brutal, too many details from the book. Got an A:)
The course is divided into quizzes every other week of which is only counts 35. Short answer and MC. The lectures are super long (about 90-99 slides) and he expects you to know every detail from the slides. Short answers all mostly all on studies. He reads right off the slides and it's so boring to sit through the whole 3 hr lecture. I would AVOID
His lectures are long and boring, the quizzes every other week aren't bad if you don't have 1000 other classes and things to do, lets get real most of us do. Toooooo much content to learn in one semester. His test are on the finest details... I would never suggest this course to anyone. :(
As a professor he's nice. Very nice. He is passionate about his field of study. However, coming from someone with a limited science background, this course is HARD. Quizzes every other week, exam was cumulative with VERY dense material. Don't expect to learn memory applying to everyday life. Expect to learn about specific brain functions.
He reads off his slides, no enthusiasm. But what is nice is that he gives you a quiz every other week 5 in total and he picks the best 3 grades from the 5. Thats the nice part then for the final he drops a cumulative bomb on your ass. For studying I recommend doing the practise questions in the text book at the end of each chapter.
Dr. Park was a great teacher. I am still influenced by the material i learned from 3 years ago. Teaches with more passion than excitement. He is a goofy character which i thought eased the long lectures and dense material. material is very logical A because of B because of C type of stuff, easy to learn because it applies to all our lives
Really great prof. Very knowledgeable on the topics. The content can be challenging, but it is really interesting. 60% of the grade was made up of biweekly noncumulative quizzes. You write 5 quizzes, and he takes the best 3 to make up the 60%. 40% is a final cumulative exam. It seems like a lot, but if you review your previous quizzes it helps.
Organized lectures & slides that complement textbook readings Biweekly quizzes ensure learning is distributed, not massed Thorough final review session with Q&A Nice person (and although not relevant, he's actually quite attractive, and has a nice voice - like a younger Robert Redford! )
Dr Park is an amazing professor! His lectures are a little dry and very content heavy but if you're into psychology his class is very interesting. Test material comes straight from the textbook and lecture slides, and he has a lot of tests where you get to pick the best marks (3/5) know your brain parts
Also took PSYC3260 (Cognition) with Dr. Park. He is a great lecturer, he is good at answering questions and checking to make sure everyone understands before moving on. Course content is difficult without attending class or reading the textbook. Short answer questions are based on the lecture material. I would take a class with him again.
His classes were always hard. This is my third class with him, second time taking cognition as I failed previously. This year he upped his difficulty level by using a new textbook. The problem? Kept all his old power points that relate directly to the old textbook... so basically there is no overlap between lecture and new textbook... good luck.
It was one of the hardest subject I ve taken at York, however it turned out to be very well done because of a huge amount of studying, many times I didn't get an expected grade, so get ready to work for your goal hard. Professor provides lots of opportunities to reach the desired grade.
AVOID AT ALL COSTS. He is a boring lecturer, and drags his lectures way to long with uninformative slides. he gives you 3/5 tests that count, and final CUMULATIVE exam. Studying everything is literally impossible, its a lot of detail. Majority of it is from the textbook, so your reading about 386549 pages. Take this class if you like meh grades.
One of the harder PSYC classes b/c lectures & textbook often don't overlap, & final is cumulative & almost impossible to study fully for if you're taking full course load, so do well on 3 quizzes. Nice & smart prof but boring lecturer. Slides are confusing so you have to attend class. For slides focus on results of studies & know details in txtbk.
We have a quiz every other week based on our last two "lectures". I use "lecture" lightly because his slides consist of regurgitated material that he's used for YEARS (if you google the course years back you can see that it's the same outline). Quizzes are 90% based on textbook, and 10% lectures (in SA questions that are out of 8, MC out of 30)
He is a bad lecturer. He seems to know what he is teaching but the information that he teaches during his lectures 80% of the time do not overlap with the material covered in the textbook. The final exam is also cumulative which is impossible to study for because there is so much information that you need to know. AVOID HIS COURSE.
This class was awful. The textbook is an easy read, however his lectures do not match the textbook. His lectures put you to sleep, very monotone. The final exam is cumulative which is difficult to study for. Avoid taking this class if you have a full coarse load.
I suppose teaching this course countless time bores even Park. His lectures put me to sleep no matter how hard I attempted to write notes and pay attention. The lectures DO NOT overlap with the textbook. He does not go chronologically with his slideshow. I'd say avoid if you wanna keep your GPA intact and try your luck with a different prof.
Lecture slides are very overpacked and switched too fast. He reads directly off of the lecture slides, so there is not really a point of going to class. The tests are HARD and you must study hard in order to get a good grade.
His lectures are long, repetitive and monotone. Save your time and read the textbook. Bi-weekly quizzes are okay. Don't ignore them. His final exam was incredibly difficult. Made almost all the questions on the CUMULATIVE exam about one chapter/a research test he did. It was so difficult that he had to bell curve the grades. Avoid if you ca
