He's teaching pre-algebra because so many of his more advanced students are ill-prepared. He uses his own book and minimizes the stress associated with math. Homework is done in class. Very fine.

Siever is a great teacher, but be warned: if you are going to go into Calculus or higher, do not take him. He doesn't teach enough theory to give students a good start for Calc 1. If you just need to get math out of the way, Siever is the way to go.

His methods of teaching is very easy. His text book for Elementary Algebra is an easy step-by-step method which is easy to follow and remember. I recommend this class for those who don't understand Algebra. He wrote the book so students can refer to it eventhough they don't remember the steps.

I don't know why everybody says to take his class. His tests are fair, and his book is clear, but it's the same price as other books. I like that you do homework in class, but there is nothing nice about him. He seems very cold and to himself. He's never talked to his students about anything besides Math. Some teachers get to know their students.

Mr. Siever's math classes are easy, but that does not mean that you don't have to work hard to get a good grade. Practice, practice, practice is the key to getting a good grade.

He explains the work, but he seems to be a little unhelpful at times. He's cool, but gives a lot of work. Test... you have to be ready for them.

Interesting man-been at LAVC since 1969, so, a long time. He used to work at NASA-ask him about it. He seems sort of...done with teaching. Has this sort of "over it" attitude, he breezes through it b/c he's taught it day in and day out for decades. This said, he's fair, his book is good and he'll help you (but probably not remember you).

One of the best teachers teaching in Valley!!!!!!Take him if you have the chance. he is cool, tells a lot of jokes, his class is not boring. I have always been terrible with math, but in his class I learned more in three months about math than I had in my whole life. His book and overall teaching style is great if you generally have difficulty in math and are willing to just do the work. He is very laid back. Do the homework, or at least enough of it to learn, and you'll get an A.

I think more teachers should use Siever and his book as an example to teach people who aren't neccesarialy fond of math. Before taking Math try to see if the instructor is using his book. he has a way of getting you to understand what seems difficult.

I heard a lot about Mr. Siever before I took Algebra, and when I finally took him for Math 125, I learned how fair and flexable he is. As far as I'm concerned, he's the only math instructor who knows how to teach, and students do understand. He is very popular.

Good guy. Helpful teacher, and his book is very self-explainitory. His tests are strait forward..you don't get any surprises. If you hate math - or love math, he's the teacher to have.

He is very straightforward, and theres never a surprise in his class. His final isnt even accumalitive amongst all the chapters. His book is great! He showed how to do things and you would haveto go to him if you need more detail. He never reallly gets into too much detail since he believes its self-explantory in the book. His test are fairly easy!

he's a cool teacher and all. the only problem is his grading. it's not like other teachers, where your grades are averaged together. the total number of points is your grade. you need to score pretty HIGH to get at least a C. so, for an A, you need to score HIGHER. if you suck at math as bad as i do, you probably don't wanna take him.

He's a nice prof. The only problem i would say is that he gives A LOT of homework. However, his book is easy to understand, but still he gives at least 50 problems each class meeting. If you really want a good grade, it's possible; just do ALL the hw.

Professor Siever, is an awesome instructor; he's very helpful in all ways. You can come up to him at any time and there is no hesitation. He is very smart; he always trys to give you the easiest ways to get the answer. Mr. Siever rocks! Math 125 was simple. He explains everything thoroughly through the lecture and gives you the odds for homework. Tests are problems from the homework!

The best math teacher I've ever had. I tried taking this class before and had to drop out. Mr. Siever's book explained everything so clearly that I aced all my tests. Even if I got lost in class by going to the bathroom or being late, I just had to open the book and the book itself could teach you. Greatest Math teacher I've ever had.

Great teacher but heres the deal. You need to come to class at least every 2 days to get the homework which is due on test days. Don't fall behind or you'll just end up hurting yourself. Also when he assigns the test review, he'll tell you to do the odd ones but do them all (some of the even 1's are on the test) Its more work but worth it. Goodclas

Am currently taking proff. Siever for Pre-calc (honors section). What can I say? His book is extremely clear and concise, the examples provide you with all the help you need. Show up to class, go over the examples, get the homework done and you're set! Join the honors section, do a couple challenging probs and you've got that H on your transcript.

Some people say Mr. Siever is lazy, but, I see it differently. He teaches at a reasonable pace so that you don't get lost. He assigns the homework during class and allows you to do it during class time so that you don't forget what he just taught you. I would recommend him if you have an aversion to math. Siever book is very clear so I used it as a dicctionary to translate the hard explanation founded in the calculus' book(swokowski) ss...He simply loves what he does so tahs the reason why he teaches so clear. tha

This guy is totally awesome! He will go over problems if you don't understand them until you do! He was never absent to class and does everything out of the book that he wrote! I never passed Algebra until I took Siever. He is easy, but you do have to take the class serious and get the homework done. He writes the test out of the book and even gives you the formulas! I'm starting from rock bottom (again) in order to pass Math 215 to transfer to CSUN. I had Davis before (ugh!). Took a "W" in that class--stands for "weird". Siever wrote and uses his own book, which is a step by logical step and, OMG!, it's beginning to make sense! So far all A's. I'm definately going to take him next fall for 115.

It sucks that he is leaving because Seiver is an AMAZING teacher! I hate math to the core but his books make is so simple. Since he teacher what he wrote, it makes all the more easier. You can teach yourself math by reading his book! DON'T LEAVE SEIVER!

Siever is a great teacher and is great at explaining everything. The only thing is that if you don't understand something, you need to let him know because otherwise you will pass the class but not understand the next class.Don't get lazy because he grades fairly easy,he is very approachable, take advantage of that or you will regret it later.

This is the best teacher I've ever had. He is willing to help and makes the class easier than it seems. It is hard to find a good math teacher, so you should take him if you want to improve your grades. Mr Siever includes clear methods and is not trying to confuse you, and to get an A+ in his class you should do the homework and show up to class.

At first glance, it would almost appear as if Prof Siever is writing these reviews himself, right? I mean how could so many people think so well of him. BUT THIS GUY REALLY IS A DREAM COME TRUE...the best teacher ever!! HANDS DOWN!

Very cool guy, down to earth, patient, great at explaining. I still use his books as a reference as they are the most "Readable" math books you'll find. One caveat: if you're going to higher level math courses, consider taking a more intense instructor as they will prepare you better. Other than that, Siever kicks ass & I'm going to miss him!

He's a great teacher. He gives you a cheat sheet with all the formulas you need on the test. He assigns hw but its only due the day when your being tested on that chapter. He uses his own textbook. I didn't like his teaching style. All of the lecture problems come straight from his textbook. He could improve his classroom management skills. There were always students talking during class & he rarely said anything. Don't expect any "wow" factor or enthusiasm from his lectures. His class is an easy A!

True that he has his own book and most (if not all) of the test questions are from there. The book may seem a bit confusing prior to lecture but becomes extremely clear afterwards. Easy in the sense that he doesn't make you memorize some stuff, but it may affect your next class. I would suggest memorizing them anyway to truly understand his class.

Almost all test questions are straight from the HW and he loves identities. Just review and study those things, you should get a B or A. No dumb mistakes, he won't let those go.

Him is the good professor ,with the good explain.him do a test every a chapter but some 2.him use his own test book but it's explain clear.if u need take 125 take him.

Great Teacher. Event though I knew pretty much everything I learned some new things. Whatever I didn't know i would just read out of his helpful textbook. He explains everything clearly and will explain it a second time if you dont understand. Great teacher.

People come from other schools to ask him Math questions. He is always helpful. He will break down everything to the simplest routine. If anything students have a hard time because they expect it to be harder than he makes it. He says, "I'm lazy, so I'm going to show you the easy way to do it."

Anyone who says his math 125 class is confusing is either the most stupidest person or did not attend to class at all. I went to every class but i did not need to pay attention to his lectures. The way he wrote his book is soo easy that it impossible for you not to understand. Again if u get anything but an A in his class then u suck at math badly.. I missed 8 points for the entire semester...

Mr Siever is an awesome Math teacher! I took him for Math 115 as well and he made learning very easy. His lectures are straight from the book (which he wrote) and are easy to follow. He always goes over homework problems that the students ask to be done on the board. All in all, great teacher, not hard to pass if you keep up with the class.

Professor Siever is an excellent instructor !!!! He cares about his students and really wants his students to pass the class. I highly reccomend taking His class.He has a very nice personality and his instructions are very clear.

Let me just say this about Professor Siever. The man is a math wizard. In my opinion, he's the best math teacher in California. He makes math bearable and understandable even for me, because I REALLY, REALLY, REALLY HATE math. Forget the other math teachers at Los Angeles Valley College, take Siever and I bet you'll be glad you did.

Prof. Siever is a very relaxed teacher.I took this class Spring of 2012. His lectures last about 20 min and then you work on homework. Material is fairly easy. One thing i hated about this class is he makes you buy he's personal math book.It's paper bound about 100 pages long and it cost about $120!! that's where he makes his money.

Great professor.He is nice, tells stories so students don't get bored. Answers all the questions, and if you don't understand he'll explain again.Tests are easy. He gives plenty of hints, your job is just to read instructions. All homework is done in the class, which is very helpful if you don't have much free time. Take him and you won't regret.

This professor is the best math teacher you'll find! You have a test after every chapter. Drops lowest score. Gives time for homework to get done in class. He hates cheating and will call you out. He's awesome though, take him it's a breeze.

He wrote the book you use. It is set up for you to be successful in the beginning because it gets tougher as you go. He hates cheaters and is hilarious to watch nail them. He's straightforward with assignments, tests and lectures then stays until the end of every period to help even one person. He's great. I'll cry if I don't get him for Math 125..

this professor is AMAZING!!!! this is coming from someone who had so much trouble with basic math. He explains clearly and if you have a question, he makes sure you get it. There's a 25 question quiz test every week or every other week and its on what hes taught. Hw every week, but simple and uses his own book which is very clear. WOULD RECOMMEND.

Overall Mr. Siever is a good teacher. He explains everything very well. He makes math a lot easier. All his tests are based off the book. So if you do your homework then you're good! Funny teacher too because majority of his student cheated in my class, and they get caught but yet they still cheat again, and again and deny it! So don't cheat !

He doesn't take roll. He tests straight out of the book (he wrote) he's super smart and has taught for 45 years. Some people never show up and then cheat their way through. Professor Siever is the best math teacher I have ever had. He is caring and fair and will go to great lengths to help make sure you get it. Having taken this class before (with other professors) and dropping it in fear of failing, I was so nervous to take math again. Siever is a great professor for older students who have not done math in years!

He is such an amazing professor! The textbook is written by himself and it's self explanatory so you don't even have to attend class for lectures! I always had difficulty with math and though I had a learning disabilities. Then I got to prof. Siever class at LAVC. This faculty changed my life forever. For the first time, I understood how to solve math problems, some I still use it at work. Prof. Siever, you are the BEST math teacher I have ever met. I will always remember that.

Fall 17' will be my 3rd class with Professor Siever. Math has always been difficult for me yet, he found a way to explain such difficult equations in the most simplest forms. He's the one who's written the textbook you'll be working out of. The usual flow; work by chapter, then take a test. One bad test will be dropped and the final is a review.

Best math professor ever! The textbook is his own, super easy and understandable. Assigns homework worth 5 points (doesn't really check it though, as long as you turn in something your good) His lectures are easy. He explains things in such a simple way.

I just took professor Siever and he is the best professor I ever had. He was extremely helpful in class and always willing to teach you how to do the problem. The text book literally shows you how to do the problem. The quiz and text are from the book but you literally need to practice to problems to get a good grade problems are same as the book

I had Professor Siever in Spring 2020, I have got to say that he was one of my favorite professors. If you had a difficult time learning something that he taught in class, not only was the textbook he wrote helpful but he would be excited to help. If you understood the material in the textbook, the tests are the same format but different equations.

Had Professor Siever as the covid pandemic hit. Things were so crazy with the riots and adjusting to everything, he was incredibly understanding about everything and made every effort to be gracious with time and grading. Recommend him to everyone!

Amazing Professor!!! During COVID 19 pandemic. He uses a textbook for his classes. If you have questions about exercises or anything related to the course, he answers promptly. I recommend solving exercises from homework, it helps with the exams and gets you to accumulate credits. I highly recommend Professor Siever you will get an A in Math 125.

This class was the first math class I have ever got an A in. We would do lecture, and then take the rest of the class to do homework while he helped us. His textbook is very useful, and hes always there to help if we need it! During covid he was also very understanding and caring. Highly recommend you take him if you struggle in math!

Professor Siever is a an excellent math professor. He has us work from a book he wrote specifically for students . The book is really easy to read and helpful by providing examples for each equation you will encounter . He also has chapter reviews that are really helpful towards our test. He is easy going and always happy to help .

Professor Sievers class is what I want all my math courses to be like. he lectures for about 30 minutes out of the entire time and then lets you work on your homework assignments in class til either you finish or class is over. Its also a very easy class to follow because the textbooks has every step and explains every detail on every problem!

He starts with a lecture then he lets you do the assigned homework in class. the homework is set up in such a way that the last assignment before the test is basically a review of its contents. It really feels like he's helping you teach yourself the math and I mean that in the best way possible.

The professor is great! If you do his homework and listen to his lecture, you will earn a good grade. He explains all things in his textbook which is written by him. Most of the tests are based on review exercises. Take him without any regret.

For someone as myself, who isn't good at math. i can say he helped out alot. Best advice I can give is DO the homework the day of or you will fall behind with all the working being provided. Norman Siever is an excellent Professor. I took my final exam today and received an A grade in his course. It was my first math course at Los Angeles Valley College. If you work hard, you will earn a good grade . I did not face any difficulty in his class. Take him. He is great. Thank you, prof.

I would only recommend this class if you are ok with doing independent work. Prof Siever is very chill. He lectures for 15 min per unit, 2 or 3 a class. The rest of the time you can start homework and ask questions. Once he is done with lectures you can leave. Hw is easy, exams are about 20 questions. No extra credit but drops the lowest exam score

Professor Siever provides all the info needed in order to excel in the homework assignments and exams. Although his lectures are short, this gives you a lot of time to practice and ask questions about the material during class.

Professor Seiver was one of the best professors I have ever had. He is such genuine and kind person. He is very passionate about getting students to really understand the subject. He does short lectures and lets you do your homework during class.His book is also very helpful and very detailed. He makes it very comfortable for you to ask questions.

Made understanding math easy. All the concepts taught in this class were learned from doing the assigned homework in class after he was finished lecturing. The only inconvenient part of the class was that he did not use Canvas to post grades. Very nice and funny teacher. I would recommend him to anyone who needs to take a math class.

I took this professor back in 1996 and I still remember him as the only math teacher that ever made sense. I hated math and he was the only reason I decided I could do math. I came back to check if he was still teaching because I want my high school daughter to consider taking his class
