He mumbles and doesn't explaine things very well. He has lecture notes, but most of his testing material isn't even covered in his notes.
He wants you to know EVERYTHING in the textbook. His class is very easy to fall asleep, and he doesn't have any labs. Just lecture, lecture, lecture.
His class is hard but he is a fair and qualified teacher. If you do well in his class you will know your stuff.
His lectures are boring, but he hands out typed lecture notes, which are VERY helpful. He's willing to answer questions that you have and is willing to change the structures of his tests to make them less lengthy.
Most of the class is lecture, very few labs, creates his own notes which are hard to follow and expects you to know every word in the book!makes a better doctor then teacher.
This teacher is just terrible. His notes don't match his tests, his tests are confusing. Best to not take the class at all than to take him for anything.
His tests are can be extremely confusing because he tests on things that aren't in the notes he hands out. Labs are very easy, but I'd take this class from someone else. He just doesn't teach it very well.
Worst professor I have had at BCC so far. Passes out lecture notes but not helpful on tests. His exams consist of his lecture notes and obscure references in the textbook which really aren't very releveant. Boring and not very motivating teacher at all. I will not take another class with this prof.
Nice guy. His teaching methods are a little difficult, but not hard after a couple of weeks. He expects you to do your work and is always willing to help whenever help is needed. He's one of my favorite teachers and most clear teachers I've had at BCC. I'd be more than happy to have him again.
Made us take a learning objectives quiz to determine learning styles, yeat doesn't cater to them. Notes are useless, stupid jokes, doesn't spend time explaining anything other than his notes word for word. I feel bad cause he tries to hard but it's too early to deal with him! Wouldn't take another.
He tries to be helpful, but is just confusing and boring. His tests are very detail-oriented, and he tests on things that aren't in the notes he hands out. I would not take him again.
Horrible teachers! Lecture every day and hands out notes. Notes and chapters are not on tests. Tests have questions from nobody knows where. Pretty much my entire class failed. During labs he was no help. Made class want to give up very easily. He can be very rude when you ask for help. DO NOT TAKE HIM. YOU WILL REGRET IT I PROMISE YOU!!!
Probably the worst teacher on the face of this earth. NORMAN SOSSONG SUCKS ASS. Every single day he lectures for about two hours, its obvious NO ONE is listening and its OBVIOUS the majority of our class is failing. I ask for help or study guides, but he told me he didnt have enough time for that. PRETTY DARN RUDE. Everyone in the class is failing!
He is very knowledgable, but should have been a reseacher rather than a teacher. His tests are confusing and he doesn't go over them to clarify answers. Many test questions are not cover at all or well enough. He is also very difficult to talk to, kind of rude. (Can't imagine what his bedside manner was like when he was a DR).
I don't think hes that bad. He does lecture a lot and hands out notes. You have to actually pay attention to lecture. His tests are confusing because some of the stuff he tests on wasn't covered during lecture -- you have to apply what you learned. Weird sense of humor, really lenient. Took his class summer quarter.
He gives daily quizzes and then just copies all of the quiz questions, word for word and in order to make the tests. Just memorize all the answers on the quizzes and you will ace the tests!
UNBEARABLE
I am satisfied in the way he teaches. I believe it's the course that's hard to learn and there's no problem with the way he teaches. You'll be surprised how much knowledge you've acquired at such a short period of time after the course with him. The daily quizzes are actually helpful for exams.
WHATEVER YOU DO...DO NOT TAKE THIS INSTRUCTOR FOR BIO260.
He realy care for his students. I think the reason people don't get a good grade is becasue they don't take his class serioustly. Once he gave out two extra credit homework and only 2 people turn them in. His exams are directly from his notes and his final exam comes from questions on all the exams u take thoughout the quarter.
For Dr. Sossong, getting an "A" means you excelled and knew ALL of the material. Course Problem: TON of info to know! HARD COURSE! If you want do well, THIS SHOULD BE YOUR ONLY CLASS of the quarter!! ADVICE: use his outline guides to study with the txt book. Gives extra credits on exams & tries to give mental images to help u understand things.
A&P was a difficult class with a lot of material to study and little guidance from Dr. Sossong of what to focus on for exams. BCC is setting a student up for failure if the only way to do well in the class is to take this as your only class and needs to reasses the A&P courses. A FULL TIME student should expect to do well if they study hard.
biol 260 He is really hard and not helpful. Provides no guidance and expects you to know everything in the book.
DO NOT take this professor - I had to as it was the only class offered that fit my schedule. I TOTALLY regretted the experience. Not only did he expose use to endless ego-minded drivel, he treated us like we were pains in the ass - on the first day of class he asked if anyone could come in earlier as the current schedule didn't suit him. BEWARE!
Boring lectures, difficult to follow, and completely unhelpful. He forgets that bio 101 students are trying to learn the basics and focuses on stuff that isn't relevant. If you know your chem and learn well on your own, you'll be okay, but otherwise, expect to study a lot. His tests are all multiple choice and all about memorizing his notes.
VERY hard tests, easy labs, weekly quizzes, the lectures are just him reading off of a power point. I loved biology before I took this class, now I don't know anymore. Taught and tested on a lot of irrelevant information
BIOL 260/261 (Anatomy & Physiology) are VERY hard courses regardless of the teacher. Dr. Sossong gives you all of the information you need to know. But it's a ton of info. If you study all of the powerpoint slides for each exam, you can get an A. But it requires A LOT of study time. If u want an A make it the only class u have.
all his notes available online ahead of tim. His exams come exactly from his notes, and does offer extra credit. He also has a lot of assignments that could sometime cover up any bad test scores. His lectures could get kinda boring but if you read ahead then go to his lectures you will find it interesting. I thought he was excellent.
Make sure that you are studying his notes EVERYDAY after class...his exams are very speratic and you never know whats going to be on them. Make a lot of time for this teacher
Had him for 260&261. Courses were extremely intense, and exams thoroughly assess your knowledge of every single tiny little detail. Some of the questions were only in the book and not the notes. Study will consume every single spare minute of your time.
if you don't work and if your parents clean, cook, and brush your teeth you will have enough time to finish him assignments and prepare for his exams. I just want him to tell what is important. If everything is important.. than nothing is important.. plus I won't remember any of those things in few months... too much material....
I took A&P 1 with Professor Sossong and got an A- in his class. This class is hard not because of his teaching style but the course material. All you have to do is study all of his powerpoint slides and you ll get an A, attendence is not mandatory after the first month. The textbook is useless, I didn't even open it for the whole quarter.
This class was very hard, but that was mostly due to the matrial not the professor.he has alot of experince since he was a practicing MD and his stories and analogies are helpful. expect to take some of the hardest exams you have ever seen. He is a good professor, but plan on studying for the exams daily.
took dr. sossong for bio101 and BIOL 260/261 (Anatomy & Physiology) he is a great man, his lectures are fun and his medical stories and intresting, you have to put in alot of time for this class but you learn so much, if your up for the challange he is the man to take a&p with
me and my cousion took his class for bio160 and A&P 1 and 2 and we both were able to pull off A's. He was very helpful and had great stories to go along with his lectures. Seems to reall care about his students and teachings. Its a very hard class but if you put in the time and effort you can get an A, highly recommended teacher
He is a very good teacher. Being able to retain the information after the test is easy to do.
Learned more in this class then all other science classes combined. Lots of information, very fast paced, but Dr. Sossong is very knowledgeable about what he teaches and provides many analogies to help you retain the information. Tests are very detailed and somewhat hard, requires you to know everything from his notes. Don't take class if lazy.
Awful teacher. He refuses to be clear with his directions, and constantly makes fun of younger students. He does back-to-back exams that allows for no down time, and assures you that ALL information should be known for upcoming tests. I'm counting the days until I graduate from his course.
Amazing teacher. He knows this stuff so well, provides AMPLE resources for his students (slides, lecture notes etc) which his tests are based off of. Not a hard class at all, just put in the time to do well. Explains everything and wants his students to do well. His lectures are clear & thought out. I was extremely prepared for bio 211 bc of him
Took Anatomy and Physiology with this guy, and ended up with a B+. Honestly, there are 7 exams total. First 3 I did horrible, lower than a B+, and last 4 I got very close to 100%. Tip is: MEMORIZE EVERY SINGLE DETAIL OFF HIS POWERPOINT. If you can regurgitate the every bit of info on each slide, guarantee you'll get close to 100%.
I LOVED Dr. Sossong, I've been going to school for a long time and he is by far my favorite teacher. It is a hard class, but everything on his exams are exactly how they are in the notes. Very FAIR. And he always gave extra credit on all his exams! He really wants his students to do well, unlike some teachers who keep their class average at 70%
He is awesome!I luv love Dr. Sossong.Super nice.Always has extra credits.Put the effort. An A is guaranteed. You should study well though. His class is very fair.Good luck:)
Great teacher. This class is hard. There is a ton of material. Dr. Sossong gives daily quizzes which helps you stay on top of the material and gives plenty of points to offset a couple of blown quizzes. Don't miss class. The final questions come directly from the tests so there is no excuse to blow the final. He provides class notes. Loved him
Great professor. Very knowledgeable and helpful. He really wants his students to do well. Lots of material to learn in this course. I worked hard, but the exams and quizzes are fair so all the studying really paid off. I really enjoyed this class!
I loved this class and Dr. Sossong. He is a great teacher! This is a tough class and there is a lot of material to learn. His presentation of the material is very clear and he makes it interesting. His power points given prior to the lectures are very helpful. I made sure that I memorized and understood the info from his power points and I got an A
I loved this class. He makes it capable of getting an A in A&P unlike other BC staff. Study the slides and notes and you're golden. There are lots of tests so there is never a ton of material to cram in the night before. Final is 64 pts and are totally from the previous tests. Quizzes are daily and easy. LOTS of EC!! I got an A and learned alot
This is a hard class but the instructor is good. Study his notes and you'll do well. The tests can be tricky but if you know everything on the notes they aren't too hard. The final questions are taken from the previous tests. I got an A in his class.
Lots of EC on exams, which are long. Fill in Blank/T/F &MC. Sometimes not clear what daily quiz cover. Hard class lots to memorize, good about bone/mscl study guide. Understand PP and lec notes, memorizing doesn't=A. book usful as reference, youtube helpful on occasion. Lmt'd availability. Taking him for 242.
Dr. Sossong is a great professor-- take A&P with him! He used to be a MD so he has great stories that will help you care and learn the material. Lots of extra credit, definitely formats class so you'll learn and succeed (i.e. daily quizzes). Not the most approachable or understanding if you're a special needs student, but he's nice & tries.
Took Biol 241 & 242 from Dr. Sossong, very challenging material. Dr S is a retired physician, very smart, but funny and realistic. Very approachable and helpful. Tells lots of stories, listen closely to get the point. Attend all classes, study text & PPs, prepare for exams. Work hard and you'll get the grade you want.
I took Dr. Sossong for both BIOL 241 and 242, the second only because his was the only class that fit my schedule. I had to retake 241, and will be retaking 242 with a different professor. Sossong was a Dr. so his classes are unlike ANY others, with a lot of pointless stories. His exams are very tough because he focuses on TINY irrelevant details.
A&P will be challenging regardless of which professor you take it with. With that said, Dr. Sossong's class structure is extremely straightforward, his daily quizzes help prevent procrastination, and his tests can be tricky but ultimately, you learn A&P. I like him because he weeds out those who are too incompetent for health programs..just sayin
Took 241 last quarter and now 242.Lctr based on PP, but make notes w/notes he provides. E.C. on exams. Not available for help so use Science Study Center. Not an easy 2nd course, read the book after lectures that helps. Hormones are a huge part of EACH system, learn them inside and out.Overall I can say I learned a lot/glad I took series w/him.
Had for A&P 1 and 2. Just finished my first quarter or nursing school and it was a breeze thanks to Dr. Sossong. The classes are not easy (no way they could be)but the level of knowledge you receive is incredible. If you are at all serious about going to a medical training program take his class and I guarantee you will have a leg up.
Very difficult professor, but very straight forward. Tests are not too difficult if you stay on top of the material and you study the notes. Quizzes are daily and are his way of tracking attendance. Overall, best advice is to really understand each system. He will prepare you for anything!
Worst teacher I ever had...not fair..not understanding..will never ever take a class with him again
This is a 200 level class and by no means easy. If you put the work in you will do well. Dr. Sossong prepares you for 241 w/daily quizes which are not given in 242. This allows you to use the same study habits for the 2nd quarter. If yo uwant easy then why are you taking A&P? You don't realize how much you learn until you are done with the class.
Great instructor. Daily quizzes and weekly exams can be a little overwhelming, but it really helps, especially given the amount of material in the class. Attend lectures, study the textbook and his notes and you will do just fine. I feel really comfortable with the material and very well prepared...learned so much!
I was terrified to take his section after reading the reviews on here, but my experience was really excellent. He provides class notes and essentially all the test questions come from those. He gives a TON of extra credit--I got over 100% on every exam because of it. Studying is essential, but that's to be expected.
He is okay. He's pretty old and sometimes gets off topic by telling stories. Has many exams, and each exam had 60-100 questions which i found very difficult. Each multiple choice question had more than 4 choices and it was really difficult. You do learn a lot from him, but the amount of exams he gave can be annoying.if you don't mind it take him.
Yes, Dr. Sossong gives a lot of tests, BUT that helps you to learn it better and it "waters down" the points. If you miss stuff on tests, its not a grade breaker, like professors who only give 4 exams. I liked all his stories, it makes the concepts much more understandable. Study everything, and you'll get a good grade.
not an easy class, you really need to understand the material and tests are long (100-130 questions). total 7 exams, 1 final+labs and everyday quizzes. Not very approachable. Study his notes and power points; however, some of the questions come from the book.
This is a very high quality instructor. The course is difficult, and will require a lot of time studying. He offers his own notes and slides that you would not succeed (get an A) without using. read the chapters, know his notes intimately, and you can do well. He is extremly knowledgable and striaght forward. I would take him again. I got an A-.
Took both quarters with him. Amazing teacher. Class is hard, but fair. You put in the work and want to learn, you will do well. Great at telling stories to relate to material. I would know so much more if he taught all my classes! Daily quizzes are easy and for attendence, also helps to get you easy points!
He doesn't normally teach nutrition. For a biology/chemistry professor, he has a vast knowledge about nutritions/diet/healthy living lifestyle. We had a weekly test which was extremely difficult if you don't read the book and take class lectures. Other than that, he is very helpful, knowledgeable, and makes you obsessed with the class! He's awesome
Take series with Dr. S! Study hard and TIME MANAGEMENT (make a schedule). I found recording lectures with smart device to get full understanding of material helpful; listened to lectures once after class & again over weekend. Study sessions with friends very helpful! Daily quizzes 241 (not 242), weekly exams MC/matching, FITB, TF, labs breeze.
stress!!! tests are overwhelming - 100-200 questions. If you do not work, have no family, no friends - take him and good luck studying days and nights. I felt so much relief it was over!
Very clear instructor. Daily quizzes help prepare for the weekly tests. Find a study group that's serious. Tests difficult because you're expected to know EVERYTHING in his notes. His notes are very helpful.
Dr. Sossong is a high quality A/P Professor. He used to be an MD and gives class examples from his experience. He gives you his notes and powerpoints which can be a lot of information. However if you study hard you well on well on the tests. It is not an easy course but this professor grades fair and expectations are clear. I recommend him!
Not a very good teacher at all. his test scores in my class averaged a C. he is not a very good teacher to say the least. I would recommend taking it with a different teacher.
His lectures consisted of him telling the same story over and over. For his exams he likes to add a lot of questions that have multiple answers to them and the diagrams on the exams are confusing. Overall, I regret taking 242 with this teacher. Our class average is a C.
An extremely time consuming class.Prepare to take daily quizzes, weekly exams. Although I learned alot of material from him,he is not an approachable teacher. He allowed people to cheat openly despite half the class informing him about it(we were required to sign a form on Day 1). There was no consequence, so many of us lost respect for him.
his exams are very hard, ,he asks about the smallest details. if you have no social life, or job, this is the class for you. He should probably teach a class about internal medicine because that's all he really cares about. overall, be prepared to fail this class or drop it NOW
This class was close to impossible. We did three labs that were not helpful at all and we did not get to dissect a fetal pig. His exams on average are over 100 questions and you will think you are prepared but WILL fail. I DO NOT recommend this class to anyone unless you are a genius and have no life outside of school. Also, NO STUDY GUIDES.
Dr. Sossong is a wonderful teacher. He provides you with power points and the notes he used to make the power points. He explains everything clearly and is animated and tells stories when conducting his lectures. I wish we did more labs. It is a very time consuming but rewarding. Great teacher who is passionate about the subject.
Very hard teacher. I advice NO ONE TO TAKE HIM! I am a good student and I studied super hard for this class every week. I literally felt like a hermit. I ended up getting a C+. You think your ready for his 100+ question tests because you studied hard? Think again. I have to retake this class now because I need at least a B- for my program.
Dr. Sossong is NOT as hard as everyone says he is! There are daily quizzes, almost weekly exams and some labs, but his power points and lecture notes he provides does contain the material that are presented on his exams and are great study materials! I thought his class was very informative and prepared me for my program. Study groups are great!
People, seriously, DO NOT TAKE this calss sif you have family and work full time. He is a MONSTER. Worst class i have ever taken. Exams are overwhelming, you literally need to know every words from his notes and the book if you want to get a good grade, or i should say decent grade. the average in our class is C on maybe evenlower. Terrible teacher
Dr. Sossong is one of the most knowledgeable human beings I have ever met! He has a PhD in Physics and was a practicing MD. His class is challenging, but only because he is seriously preparing you for the healthcare world. If you listen, ask questions and study his notes and power points, you will do well. I wish I could take more classes with him!
Admittedly, his classes are extremely difficult. However, if you actually take the time to study (about 25 hours a week is what you're looking at) then getting an A shouldn't be a problem. The notes he provides are extremely helpful. Show up to labs and you should be fine. I do not recommend taking any other classes while taking this one.
He is not a difficult teacher. This class covers a ton of material, studying 20-25 hrs a week is necessary to comprehend the material. His powerpoints are great and the daily quizes help keep you on track. Saving the average was C is false. Myself and many others got a B or better. Do the work it requires. This is not an easy course w/any teacher
Makes everything complicated, never know what to expect on exams and limited amount of time with more than 100 questions on each.
He is a great and supportive teacher! I was intimidated going into the class but he is quite reasonable. As for the 100+ questions, don't be intimidated! A lot of the questions are related, so you should be able to get them if you studied! He gives quizzes that helps keep us on track of studying and there are extra credit available!
Dr. Sossong did an amazing job teaching both the a&p classes I was in. He gave great lectures, and he made clear what he wanted us to know for exams (his notes only!)you are serious about learning about A&P, you should take the class with him because you will learn so much your brain literally feels like it will explode. AMAZING class!
This nutrition class was harder than Anatomy & Microbio combined :( This was his first time teaching Nutrition 101 & it was taught more as a human physiology course. Exams are extremely long w limited time. Content you will be tested on is every detail from the power points as well as the textbook chapters! Horrible class. Doesn't use canvas!
Does not give study guides for exams, lectures do not reflect what will be on the exams and don't bother asking him questions during a lecture because he most likely won't know the answer.
I lost respect after our first quiz as he allowed the same guy to cheat over and over again. I hated his long drawn out lectures. I was trying hard not to fall asleep. You can tell he doesn't change up his material. If you like to be engaged and want to retain the material for your career. Take a different professor
I was nervous to take this class because Dr. Sossong was rated as being extremely difficult. He was excellent! He puts as much effort into being a teacher as he expects of his students. I got an A thanks to him and my hard work. Go to class and study his notes and you'll do well! He does not ask trick questions in his tests.
Worst class I have ever taken. This instructor is a previous MD, and he often goes off on tangents that have little to do with relevant material. He requires attendance, which is a shame because I would have learned much more staying at home and studying by myself. He mumbles, rambles, is unclear, and is completely out-of-touch. Stay away.
This is the hardest class I have ever taken. I thought taking a 100 class would be alright and I, being a straight A student ever since middle school, have a C right now. There is a test every week and you never have the chance to process information from the last week. Powerpoints are over 100 slides long and his tests make no sense. The tests.
DONT TAKE HIS CLASS IM WARNING YOU. 110+ point tests every single week. Anatomy and physiology is highly stressed and he makes eating feel more like a math test with the amount of planning for every little vitamin and mineral we are supposed to account for. Lectures are useless you probably get more help staying home and studying. Very hard.
I like the teacher he means well but in order to pass this class you must be a fast learner and study his PowerPoints. His reviews don't match his exams so don't bother in doing them. 110 point exam every week and he ask questions that aren't part of the book so pay close attention to his lectures. Don't take this class if you don't like reading.
Dr. Sossong was a bit intimidating at first... he's pretty quiet and tells elaborate stories- but I feel that they have a point, sometimes. I wasn't doing well on my first 2 exams and I asked him for guidance and it completely changed the way I studied. He takes most of the questions for exams off his powerpoint slides. Daily quizzes are helpful.
Worst teacher ever. He hardly prepares you for his weekly tests, and he literally writes them the day before. He makes you buy a text book that he doesn't even base his tests off, so regardless if you read the chapters, it won't do you any good. He doesn't use canvas, so you won't know your grade in the class until the very end of quarter.
I had Norman for a week when he was subbing for another professor who was in the hospital. WORST WEEK EVER. His lectures make no sense and take way longer than they should because he gives a lot of personal anecdotes. If you take him your class will be 100x harder than it needs to be. If you have ANY CHOICE DO NOT TAKE HIM.
Norman is great, He posts an outline of his lecture, print it out, take notes during the lecture, wait for, it study the outline topics and lecture notes and the minimum grade your get is a C. He also has study homework that goes throughout the book, which REALLY helpful when it comes to the test. His medical background really makes the class!
I enjoyed Dr. Sossong, All of the A&P classes are going to be tough. There is a lot of info that has to be learned in a short amount of time. With that being said, his exams are long and can be hard IF YOU DON'T READ HIS OUTLINES that he GIVES TO YOU. His exams literally come straight off of his outlines that he provides for you! I would take again
quizzes are on a daily basis over large ideas. Be prepared to study because hes constantly testing you. Which some would think is good but its not. He spends more time testing than he does teaching. He hardly does labs. And tests are always at least 100 questions. I wouldn't recommend this instructor to anyone. He works for some but not me.
Loved him! I learned a lot and actually remembered it, which helped me in A&P11. Test material was covered by his notes and slides, which made studying much easier. His expectations and class schedule were very clear. You basically, learn a chapter and take a test on it, then move on to the next chapter instead of one test covering 3-4 chapters.
do NOT take BIO 241 with professor Sossong. he is perfectly nice, but very smart and expects a lot from his students. His tests are long, frequent and difficult. I re-took the class with another professor and had a way better experience.
Norman's lectures were a little bland sometimes, but he had very clear expectations for his students. He used 80% of the material from his slides and was helpful when we were confused or uncertain. Lots of exams, but that helped me recover from a failed exam. Once I understood his method I got A's and B+ on each quiz & exam.
He has lot of knowledge to share which is very helpful if going to medical school. Ya, he is tough but its not him its the subject. To get good grades and remember the material for long time, anyway we have to revise over and over again. I highly recommend taking him. He is the best teacher I had in BC.
I took him for both AnP 241 and AnP 242. He is very knowledgeable. I do not know why students keep saying that he is not a good teacher, though I found his class quite interesting. If you really want to excel and learn the subject in detail, I highly recommend taking him. His notes and slides are very helpful for exams.
I read his reviews before taking class and thought he was really hard but it turned out he is very helpful and not as tough a grader as everyone writes. His lectures are very clear, makes you read but that helps a lot in long-term. I am also going to take him again for AnP2 as well. He is the best teacher in Science department at BC
He's experienced in the medical field which makes lectures more interesting cuz he shares real life situations on the specific topic he is talking about. His exams are hard and you DO need to study hard for them, they are over 100 questions each. I took both A&P 241& 242 with him and 242 is way easier & has no everyday quizzes like 241 did.
His class is hard, but you learn a ton. He gives you notes so you can follow along with his lectures and he uploads his slide shows on canvas so you can look at them later. He offers extra credit at the end of the quarter and there are usually extra credit questions on his test. Great teacher with a lot of knowledge in the he healthcare field!!
Currently in 242 & had him for 241. Hes not as tough as ppl describe him. A&P is going to be challenging no matter who's teaching it to you. On another note, his exp. in medicine is a huge plus he takes it upon himself to educate us on practically useful material & misconceptions he had as a student himself. And experience is the best teacher ;)
Although this class is tough, it's really about the class and not the professor. The material has to be learned and he gives you plenty of chances to supplement your test grades. Very knowledgable in his field and if you pay attention and study his notes well, you'll be just fine. You can really learn a lot from him.
His lectures are a little dry and sometimes he mumbles, but information is presented in a clear way and tests are based on information presented in class. Study his notes and power points carefully.
1) Very good powerpoints 2) Study guides provided 3) Reading homework that goes along with required textbook. 4) Towards the last half of the quarter, mock exams with answer keys given (very helpful) 5) He's very laid-back and has interesting stories about his experiences in the hospital that applied to class content. 6) Study group helps.
The amount of info in A&P is crazy. Dr. Sossong does an awesome job in conveying the info needed along with his own experiences. His power points are in depth & his homework directly relates to the information needed for testing. With the amount of required info for the course it can feel overwhelming but if you ask he will help.
I took 241 w/Sossong and LOVED him! He didnt teach 242 last quarter so I took a chance with another prof. Not only did he make me HATE the class, I thought about dropping out of school. I took the class and ended with a D+, forcing me to retake. I saw that Sossong was teaching this quarter so I jumped to retake with him. A! HIGHLY recommend! Great!
Dr. Sossong's teaching style is lecture based, which I like, but his lectures could be updated. He can be dry to listen to, but he tells a lot of stories from his medical background, adding interest. He gives us access to his PowerPoints & note outlines, which are great to take notes on & are what his tests are based on. I would take him again.
I really enjoyed A&P1 w/ Sossong. Class is difficult, but he does a great job providing the materials necessary to succeed. Gives an outline of notes (these are gold!) and uploads everything. Amount of time you put into studying will reflect on tests. They are in depth and mostly multiple choice but majority covered in outlines. Highly recommend!
He's a really good teacher, its especially nice to have someone who actually is a Dr and has plenty of experience in the field of medical. Has great stories to tell, very knowledge, really knows what he is talking about. I would really recommend this teacher.
I had this professor for both human anatomy I and II. The exams and daily quizzes do make this class tough but if you memorize the content given through the class powerpoints and notes you can easily get a B or higher. He's nice and has interesting stories from his past career in the medical field.
Took this professor for A&P I and II. His class is straightforward but can be tough due to memorization and detail-oriented questions. Overall, if you spend a good amount of time studying, you will do well. His exams include extra credit questions. He's a retired MD, and he brings up relevant examples from his clinical practice.
These classes are NOT EASY, but that speaks more for the difficulty of the material than the professor. Dr Sossong is very detail oriented and will make you work for your grade. If you put the time in and actually study then you will likely learn more from Dr sossong than most other teachers. 4.0 is not impossible but you'll actually have to learn.
The course is pretty straightforward. Print out and study his notes well. He also tests out of the book, so read through it. Once you get into muscles and bones, make sure you know all the labels. Tests have many questions, but each question doesn't typically take very long to do.
If you can handle a lecture that is 100% reading of ppt's, Dr. Sossong is for you! However, if you're a tactile learner or enjoy class participation, or ANY OTHER MODE OF LEARNING, you are out of luck. He is very set in his ways, and I would not take him again. I would not recommend taking this class as an accelerated course. (as I did)
Lectures are boring and hard to pay attention to. He doesn't post anything on canvas; not homework, not the course schedule, not grades, nothing. All homework is given in handouts, so if you miss class you don't get the homework. And he doesn't accept any late work. Unorganized and not specific about homework and tests. Won't ever take him again.
Terrible lectures - Dry and with no class participation. Will spend days talking about a subject, but then it won't be on the test. Instead, something that the book barely mentions and that is a side note on a ppt slide will be on the test. DO NOT TAKE ANY CLASSES FROM HIM! Seriously, it's not worth it. I'm a 4.0 student and got a B in his class!
If you like to memorize and regurgitate, this is a good class. He breaks the major exams up and tests the course in 1/3rds instead of bits and pieces quizzes culminating to a huge - (remember everything from the whole quarter) - exam. It's like three mini finals every four weeks of learning. Very nice.
I love Dr. Sossong! Although he is old, he is very wise! I have much respect for him and he makes analogies to better understand the concept of the topic(s). I hated A&P, but after taking his class I ended up loving it! Very knowledge, test everyday, very nice and silly at times. VERY informative and organized!
Expect a minimum of 1 exam a week, and daily quizzes. All lecture slides and notes are online which is great. Nothing but lectures 90% of the the time. No class participation. You HAVE to study at least 1.5 hours a day for this class. If you are not reviewing the material often you will fail. Exams worth 80% and hmk, quizzes, etc. are 20%.
Dr. Sossong is incredibly knowledgeable, but I struggled so hard with this class. I honestly studied 3-4 hours daily for his exams and only got 74-82% on every one; they were so difficult. In my opinion it was not worth the intense stress of just trying to pass the exams. 80% of your grade is exams, 20% is in-class labs and a few pages of homework.
Dr. Sossong is very good with A & P, however I have never taken a harder class in my life. Studied for multiple hours a day, got C's on every exam, I asked if our assignments/labs throughout the quarter counted towards our final grade, to which he said "only the exams are graded." For all that work outside of class, for it to not count is absurd.
One of the best professors I have ever had. I listened to other students ask the dumbest questions over and over again because they arent paying attention. If you cant put your phone down and focus for 2 hours, then the medical field is not for you.
He has a very professional background and expects the same scrutinous attention to detail in his class (exact spelling, exact location of anatomy, etc.) Daily quizzes, tests are frequent and mostly multiple choice, not a lot of lab work. SAVE YOUR EXAMS. Final is cumulative and easy if you use your past exams to study. Solid prof, learned a lot
Professor Sossong is a very knowledgeable and insightful instructor, with a background in practicing medicine before he went into teaching. His provided notes summarize everything you need to know, textbook is for if you need clarification, but the material on anatomy and pathology is extensive, and you will need to be disciplined with yourself.
He gives you lectures nothing of which is rrlated to test . Get ready to do a lot of reading and homeworks
Good lord this professor is awful; tests on Droning Lectures every week (and always at least 30% of the Test is material we never went over in class). Hardest class I ever had to take; Nutrition 100 isn't even a tough class, this guy just makes it ridiculous.
Very difficult professor for a 100 class of Nutrition. If you do not check canvas daily and really study, you will not pass. Weekly, difficult exams(70 questions) - of which a lot of material is not talked about in class (previous notes on canvas and textbook reading). He is helpful, but I think he's confused his 100 class with a higher level
I like Doctor Sossong's class. He is knowledgeable. If you can remember all the things of the note he provided it is easy to get A. We have 7 exams and 1 final in bio242. Be aware that his exam is very specific and many detail questions. Also, the worksheet takes a lot of time to answer and you must have a textbook to find the answer.
Very hard class,22-25 hrs study week, attendance rqrd, long wrksheets, text reqrd, attendance rqrd, hard exams,ok for FT students, not good choice for working students, late assignment and powerpoint posting, changing syllabus daily, knowledgable prof, dry lecture.
Dr. Sossong was great. Hes very knowledgeable and very clear on what he expects. Theres a lot of homework in this class but really cant complain because it helped me prepare for the exams. He gives out a lot of extra credit which is great because the overall Is heavily based on your exam scores. Id definitely take another class of his!
Professor Sossong was great! He was knowledgeable and organized. The exams are heavy but provides lots of extra credit. Hes was great about getting our exam scores back the same day and the homework the following day or even the day of. The class itself is tough, not necessarily his class. You cant expect an A if you dont put in the work.
One of my favorite professors ever. I believe his somewhat low rating here is completely undeserved. If you want to know and understand A&P - take him. He is knowledgeable, and his expectations are very clear. Best A&P professor ever. Study hard and you will get what you deserve.
Professor Sossong is a retired doctor, and his teaching style shows his abundance of knowledge. I loved that he used analogies from his childhood and life experiences to make the microscopic biology understandable. Even though the class is test heavy (tests every week, and quizzes everyday), you should be fine if you read his notes meticulously!
Dr. Sossong is organized, kind and a great teacher. He shares many stories and analogies from his personal and professional life to help understand difficult concepts. He gives extra credit on every exam, which can boost your grade 5-10%. He also gives plenty of extra credit outside of exams. The homework and quizzes help prepare for the exams.
Exceptionally organized professor with clear expectations. This is an extremely time consuming course regardless of who you take it with so be prepared to not have much else on your plate. Dr. Sossong provides invaluable notes that reflect all material on exams. 75% of grade is Exams. Learned a lot from Dr. Sossong & highly reccomend him.
Professor Sossong is honestly the best professor I've ever had. His class won't come easy. It is a lot to memorize and study. Professor Sossong gave quizzes nearly every single day and an exam pretty much every week. This forced me to study ALOT and therefore I appreciate that because it forced me to study and not feel lost in his lectures.
Very kind man and amazing teacher. i took this class online and he was very good in lectures. its a hard class and you have to memorize everything so its hard but he is such a good teacher. Very organized. Has notes and pp available which are very very helpful. hes very educated and definitely knows what hes doing. also super helpful if you have qs
Professor Sossong made the material clear, but he makes you work hard for every point in the class. Doesn't give extra credit and the tests are very difficult. I studied over 20 hours a week to get an A. Lots of memorizing and reading.
Dr. Sossong is extremely wise and knowledgeable. Tests make up 75% of the overall grade. Lectures are recorded and posted daily. Organized notes, PowerPoints, mock exams, and study guides are available to students on Canvas. A little slow to respond to emails. Read the textbook, study smart, spend the time, and you'll learn lots and be successful.
Professor Sossong is a very sweet & knowledgable professor! His lectures can seem boring sometimes, but he sneaks in some personal stories to relate to the content (don't take the 8:30am class if you aren't a morning person). Homework is reasonable - the quizzes are open note & exams are fair but have a couple of trick questions.
This is the TL:DR version of what I wrote in my course review for his class since it is far to long to post here. 1) No clue how to work canvas 2) Typos galore 3) NO EXTRA CREDIT 4) Told me that he is a historically difficult teacher but 90% of last quarters students got an A and if I study harder I'll figure it out. Does nothing to prevent cheatin
Norman is nice in lecture, but when me or my classmates reached out via email we got seemingly abrasive and rude responses. He isn't very good at working technology, but you can tell he has a passion for his field. Class is based entirely off quizzes and labs (open note) and difficult tests (closed note). I got an A+, but studied 25+ hours a week.
Too much info between his lectures, reading the text book and busy work with the lab material. Added pressure with timed quizzes and tests (1 min per question). His lectures are extra long because of his long personal stories that neither add to understanding or help with tests. Very poor/grainy old pictures to label. Poor review sessions.
When taking an A&P sequence you should know that the classes will be tough but Sossong makes the heavy workload manageable with memorable stories, worksheets and lab manuals related to key content and additional study tools. His recommended movies, books, and papers on topics further your learning and highlight his vast knowledge and passion.
Dr. Sossong was an awesome professor. Great storyteller- which helped us remember things, but does go on tangents sometimes. Very organized & followed his calendar pretty closely. Lots of hw, quizzes, andexams. Definitely a hard professor, but it forced me to study hard & keep on track. Read & do the worksheets. Watch his wording closely on exams.
Asych class btw, canvas is set up in a way no other teacher I have ever had done it. Impossible to navigate week by week, you pretty much have to go to the lectures if you want to know whats do or what you need to do that week. Also the quiz information is often outdated so you just lose points for no reason
Sossong is one of the best professors for A&P, not only are all his lectures posted, but he also provides study guides, a ton of practice exams, AND his detailed lecture notes(You really only need these!). He is considerate and will push exam days, and will accommodate for mistakes on the exam. Plenty of extra credit, highly recommend him!
Professor Sonssong is very methodic. His class is based on old materials, and his exams are tough. His exams are worth 3x any other exercise, which means to make up a lower exam score, you will have to work 3x harder. Two lower exam scores and, most likely, you won`t make it back. He follows his schedule close. Very tough Professor.
I stopped attending lectures after the 2nd test. He read from the slides, not making information more comprehensible. I bounced from the book, quizlet, study guides, youtube, drawings, power points. I used teachers posting their lectures on youtube. I turned everything into a quizlet. I memorized power points and study guides with quizlet.
Norman is a sweet heart. He is also a very good teacher. He is a doctor and it was fun to hear his stories from when he practiced medicine, stories related to the topics he was explaining.
Super nice teacher. Records his lectures and posts on canvas so you can always rewatch. Theres alot of hw so be prepared. (HW questions are on the exam) tells stories relatable to the context. Study hard and ask alot of questions
His grading policy is unclear and confusing. Also a lot of his material is outdated. He is sweet professor but he doesn't not know how to use canvas and for adult students this is a detriment, as attending a live lecture is not always easy.
Study guides do not reflect tests. His wording for questions are confusing and misleading. He offers mock exams which are helpful but it really feels impossible to get higher than an 80% on any exam. YouTube saved my life in this class and I *still* made a C
Other people like him, but I guess he just doesn't fit my learning style. The lectures are long: 2 hours long. He gives a 5-minute break sometimes, but it is not enough to let your brain rest. He does not explain the systems well and often tells stories that aren't helpful. We are 2 months into the quarter and only did a single 15-minute lab...
Dr. Sossong had lectures that supplemented the textbook and structured the course in a way that made it easy to know what to study. -Two 60 min live virtual lectures a week -In person classes consist of either PowerPoint lecture or an exam -Three labs this quarter -One to two chapter worksheets for homework a week; guided me in my note taking
Difficult series. Caring; wants you to learn! Available office hours; happy to answer questions! Clear expectations, & expects ALOT! Tons of memorization "and" complete functional understanding of systems/concepts. Some exam question poorly worded &/or too many "super close" to correct answers per Q. DON'T take another hard class w/ this course.
This professor was extremely disappointing. Very hard to communicate with, he often misunderstands the questions being asked by students. Not tech savvy, shows up late to his own online lectures. Doesn't communicate changes to his course schedule. His lecture notes have typos and formatting errors. If you can, I recommend taking a different prof.
Professor Sossong has a specific teaching style that takes some adjustment. The lectures can be lengthy, but rewatching them on Canvas helps reinforce the content. Utilizing unstuck ai alongside the textbook and class materials made exam prep much more efficient.
Terrible proff. He mumbles his lecture most of the time.I have approached him for help. Barely answered my questions. He doesn't care if anyone cheats on his exams. Students have reported the issues. Did nothing. His topics is very generalize you'd have to find it yourself on which part to fully focus on. Hope you've memorize will be on the exam.
Previous MD, very sweet and knowledgable professor. Make sure to ask alot of questions! Made A&P fun
Great person and a great professor. Although he is old and not tech savvy, he is extremely wise. Prof. Sossong was a doctor and also taught physics -- thart's really cool in my opinion. Try to sit in front of the class, his lecture style might not be for everyone but if you want to learn alot, this is the way. Very smart and kind person in general.
I'd go to class and sit through a 2 hour lecture, then go home and read the textbook in order to understand anything. He mumbles a lot and it's hard to hear or understand him. Lots of exams (I took 3 exams in one week, so prepare for that cuz it might happen if there's snow days). Doesnt post grades. Overall I don't recommend.
Sacrificed my GPA for this. EXAMS EVERY WEEK (75% of grade). scantron grading only. does not round up. does not use canvas-no grade transparency. study at least 20+ hours a week or you will struggle heavily. he struggles to answer questions. does not drop an exam like the other professors. final is communilative. typos/mistakes galore!
He struggles with volume/mumbles, so I would suggest sitting in front. VERY exam and hw heavy, but the hw is similar to the exams and sometimes he'll use the same questions (offers extra credit on most exams!) He's NOT strict with making up exams, turning in hw late, and coming to class late. Quizlet will be your BFF! buut your grade is up to you!
