Knows her stuff. Doesn't always explain it perfectly during class (I don't think English is her first language), but you can always swing by after class or during office hours and she'll be happy to clarify. Gives lots of extra credit opportunities.

Class was hard for me because I didn't knew anything about C++ but Prof. Rizk and her TA (DAN) always where there to help us, we had some homeworks and 2 tests, plus the final, but if you work hard you can make it through in this class.

Great teacher and definitely offers a bunch of extra credit to help you pass the class/get a good grade. Only problem is talking & emailing with her about grade errors seems to either take exceptionally long or never handled. Still, I would recommend the class as it is easy to learn and has great TA's as well.

I've taken all of her classes and she is great. You need to study the DETAILS for the tests. I always emailed her often and she always responded quickly. Also went to her office hours a couple of times and she was always available and helped. Wish she would teach other classes, but she dosen't! maybe some time soon.

This teacher is very good. She's nice, organized and helpful. No matter what class you take with her, it will turn out well as long as you study and stay diligent. I've taken Intro. to Comp sci 1, Computer Org. and Programming and Computer Architecture with this teacher and did well in all of them with relative ease.

Nice prof, easy class. Really hard to fail, if you do the work. Lets you redo missed hw at the end of semester for 50% grade. A lot of extra credit points can be earned!! However the new TAs this year were horrible.

Better than the other Comp Arch Professor. She somehow knows everyone's name so try to be in class often if you want extra credit work.

The class was technically comprehensive, but she takes the time to explain the concepts and makes sure you understand them. She gives enough time for assignments, and is even nice enough to let you resubmit those missing toward the end of semester (1/2 credit). Her grading is fair, and I would take another class with her again. She rocks! :)

Dr. Rizk is very helpful if you show interest and work hard. She will give you the opportunity to improve your grade with extra work. You must attend class not just for the attendance grade but because she goes over a lot of information per lecture. The tests are not easy, some questions are 20 points. I learned a lot.

TAs are helpful and friendly as well. Unfortunately, for me, though the class was fun, I'm still failing. So I guess do your part in studying if you want to pass with an A.

Her teaching method is clear,organize,and easy to understand.Keep in mind project assignment depends on the TA you get. Different TA different project assignment. Thus, the difficulty level can vary from one another.

She's fairly easy although it's really difficult for me to read her handwriting/what she says. The tests are pretty simple -- if you know how to program since first 2 tests is majority. The Final was short answer so it's more difficult. Assignments were easy. Attendance is mandatory and TA's are pretty helpful and lenient.

The professor was always willing to help whenever you didn't understand a problem right there in class. This class was out of my element but the professor as well as the TA were always willing to help, before and after class. Though it was quick in the summer, i still recommend it!

I thought I could only make a B but because of those extra programs, she pushes my grade because of my hard work.

The class was fun, projects were mostly group based, and if you have any problems, you can just go to her office hours and talk to her. She is a good professor, but be sure to ask her what you don't understand. She doesn't mind answering questions. LOTS of extra credit opportunities, if you are willing to work you can improve your grade (I went from a B- to a B+). The material is not necessarily easy if you have no prior experience with computer science, specially during summer.

I took Com Sci-1, Com Sci-2 and COSC 2410 class with her and all I can say is she is really really helpful. You wouldn't find any other COSC professor more helpful than her. I took Dr. Rizk's computer science 1410 and am currently taking computer science 1320 with her. She is pretty clear with all of her instructions and is very caring about her students. Make sure you go to the classes and put effort into her assignments. She pays attention to that and really tries to help out if you ask her questions.

I had Dr. Rizk for both Intro to CS 1 and 2. She is amazing, and so kind. I passed Intro 1, no sweat, but when it came to Intro 2 and me being awful at transitioning to Java, she was super understanding and she tries her best to let us know what's going to be on the exams and to give us examples to work on. Put in effort, and you've got an A.

Very nice professor and great TAs! A TA holds a review every Friday. Class is divided into 3 parts with part 1 being the hardest. Test 1 is a slap on the face, but the other tests are easier. Come to lecture and lab to learn. Try to submit alot of extra credit assignments since they bump your grade at the end. Make sure she knows you and your name!

Class was fairly straightforward. There were 4 individual programming assignments, 4 group programming assignments, a few clicker quizzes, 2 tests, a group project, and the final. The best way to prepare is to read the book and make sure you can write a program using the concepts you learn. Show effort and your grade will reflect it.

Overall good class. The professor and TAs are helpful. If possible, take lab with Mayur. Class seems difficult at the beginning, so don't get discouraged. Show effort and submit extra credit and you'll do fine.

Shes the best CS professor in the entire campus. Nobody has the teaching skills like she does. She always is striving to do better as a teacher and the TA's are pretty helpful if you come up to them asking them questions. She wants you to always practice and pushes you to make a good effort. I've taken her 3 times for 3 classes.

I'm a Ph.D. student transferring maths major and I've to take computer architecture as prerequisite course. Since I've no background in organization, I felt rather stressful and frustrated firstly for assignments and tests. However, Dr. Rizk taught us with patience and encouraged us to learn, and also assigned session reviews. It is great fun!

Professor Rizk is always cares about her students and is willing to help. The class was challenging but definitely doable. If you can, try to form a study group; this really helped me with for the tests. Make sure to go see her if you're having trouble in class. Go to class!

I have taken twice but I realized Comp Sci is not really my thing. However, she really tried to help me as much as she possibly could. I suggest everyone to take her.

The TAs are the ones really teaching, she mainly reviews. She teaches/reviews through questions. Not really a lecture. I found her hard to understand. She gives a lot of extra credit and is very lenient. You'll at least pass if you just try, but getting an A is fairly easy. Textbooks really help, but you're not required to use it.

She's one of the better CS professors at UH, sadly she mostly teaches lower level courses. Homework is reasonable and relevant. Tests are similar to the homework, so no surprises on exam day. My only complaint is she does go a little heavy on memorizing all those java draw commands for the final. Not a fan of that.

She's a great professor! Gives lots of extra credit! Her TAs are awesome!! Especially Quan! Shes always available for help and cares a lot about her students. Participation is important! Definitely recommend taking her.

Professor Rizk is a great professor and well-respected at UH. She is really good at teaching the application of course topics, however, theory will have to be learned outside of class. The class relies heavily on the textbook. If you show up to class and prove that you want to learn, you will have no problem getting an A.

Dr Rizk is a great prof, but this class wasnt one I was really interested in. Some of the content is interesting but a lot of it is interesting. However, I did learn a lot and Dr Rizk is very fair, and I'll be getting an A. There's a good amount of group assignments, so hopefully you get a good group!

Homework and assignment instructions are clear. Opportunities to earn bonus points by answering questions in class (motivation to read before lecture). Tests are fair and cover mostly cover difficult versions of concepts presented in lecture. Would take again.

Definitely take this teacher for Data Structures. The class is disorganized and the homework is hard, but she gives an insane amount of extra credit and many opportunities to boost your grade.

C++ only. Lots of EC help your understanding. Hws take time to a-ha algorithm. Need to sit down, code, read ppt, book, onl src . People may overeact, but the class isnt hard overall if you follow her instrs. She need to improve communication with TAs. Very interesting class for new coders. Its a bit rushing at the end. Dont rely on EC too much.

Taking this class made me feel like i needed to change my major. I got discouraged and towards the end of the semester, dropped the class and ended up repeating it in the summer. It was only then that I understood the value of her class. Being in her class made me a better programmer. She forces you to learn on your own. Work hard, thank me later.

Rizk is my favorite professor at UH! What she sometimes lack in clarity she makes up for 10 fold over by her sincere commitment to her students' success - providing everyone with ample opportunities to learn and earn a good grade. If you make sure you participate in class and you do all homeworks and labs by their due date you should do fine.

I honestly enjoyed taking this course with Dr. Rizk. It's a hard subject, but the material presented was very interesting and there's a ton of practice for you to do. If you participate in class and do all of the recommended practice, you will come out feeling confident in both the theory and programming side of data science. Definitely recommend!

I took this class during the summer, it was HARD! The class is disorganized, but it is pretty easy to study for. Our grade consisted of: 4 Homework assignments(25%), 3 Group assignments(10%), Participation(5%), and 3 Tests(60%). As long as you can manage to turn in your assignments you will pass, but focus on the class material for exam clues.

The summer course was a lot of work but as long as you completed all of the assignments (labs hws and did some extra credit) you'd be fine. Also make sure to attend lecture and review the ppts. It's a lot of them but necessary for you to do well on exams. Overall class is good but be prepared to work and do extras (they really help)

One of my favorite professors at UH. She's extremely helpful, open to questions, and responsive to email/teams messages. She gives lots of opportunities for extra credit and she is a fair and reasonable grader. Highly recommend!

Test are hard asf, and speed based, the hws do teach u, do the extras she tells, their easy points on the exams and sometimes help for the harder questions. PRACTICE programming, practice all content covered, and practice writing fast, seriously! Get as many extra points as possible they save ur butt!! its either work hard or u know the material

Unfortunately, Professor Rizk is not very good at lecturing and her slides are disorganized, but this is an easy enough course to teach yourself: the assignments are informative, and mostly straightforward, exams long but straightforward, tons of extra credit opportunities, and Prof Rizk and TAs are available and want to help you succeed.

She gives a lot of hard homework, labs and group assignment. At least she gives us regrades for HW, and TAs are helpful. However, the tests are horrifying, because it's on paper and there's just too much for us to memorize. There will be a curve at the end of the semester. Basically, she's the only hope for you to perform okay in Data Structure.

For people who actually want to learn, Dr.Rizk is the BEST professor to take for 2436. She is very passionate about her class and offers TONS of extra credit. Her class will be very HARD, but the TAs and her meetings (called CCC's where you can ask her quesitons) can help u! If u dont mind putting in the work, this class will be a lot of self study

This class is different than 3337: there are no exams, and very few lectures; class stops meeting about a month in. However, the material is rather more difficult and you'll end up teaching yourself a lot. The group project is really only as difficult as your ambition leads you. Very flexible class, though, and Professor Rizk is available to help.

Professor Rizk is great. She gives good lectures and gives lots of extra credit. That said, Data Structures is difficult no matter the professor. The homeworks are tough and the exams are worse. My advice: sit at the front of the class, pay attention, and *participate.* Trust me, if she knows you, things will go a lot better for you.

Dr. Rizk cares about her students and will offer extra credit. Her PowerPoint can be confusing though and ultimately might make it harder to learn at times. I recommend doing a lot of self-teaching, but fortunately, the concepts themselves are not too crazy to learn on your own. Also, this class is heavily TA dependent if a test will be hard or not

Rizk is the goat for data structures she has bad handwriting but is so nice and a good teacher. don't be afraid of this class or her lazy people over hype it and failed it because they don't put in the work. It's really not that hard should be an easy A if not pass.

So unsure who to take Dan or Rizk for DS. Def Rizk. Reason being Rizk has more skin in the world of data structures you'll learn a lot more if you PUT IN THE TIME. Expecting to do well with minimal effort is most of the complaints here. Imo study sessions before the exam for 5-6 hours allowed me to achieve my A. Doable and hard but rewarding 4sure.

I learned how to science the data. The experience was ethereal. Sometimes I would dream of the class, that happened only when I forgot to study for the upcoming lecture. I had my subconscious guarding me from the Rizky devils. Gosh did the boot taste good.

Be prepared to do a ton of coding in this class. Do them early so u are not stressing on the last day. Also be ready to put in more effort than usual in this class as it is not easy by any means. Just keep up with the topics and if u fall behind, put in extra work to come back. Extra credit thru kattis and codecoogs, they will save your grade. GLHF

Not that hard probably would have gotten an A if I went to class, she offered a lot of extra credit and you'll be fine if you just do the assignments, they are good practice for the exam, don't use CHATGPT too much because you need the practice for the exams

The class is probably one of the best electives at UH. The content goes wide and is very relevant to the industry. The lectures are fast, and during the summer skip a ton of content. Be ready to study outside of class. The homework and labs are great, but there's a ton. Tons of extra credit - do it all. Very chaotic, but with enough effort it's OK

I already knew the material, but Rizk explains data structures in ways I haven't considered before. Very good at teaching most concepts if you pay attention, but her class structure can be very chaotic, and often has spontaneous changes. You need to be very proactive in her class, exams are hard. Anyways I finished this class with a 100 average :)

The only issue I have with this course is with the TAs and their clear vindictive grading habits, which some of them believe are justified because "their exams were harder than ours", which is only true in the case of the first midterm. Dr. Rizk herself is great, but be warned. Your grades may be in the hands of salty TAs.

Rizk is good at teaching the subject but the exams are rigorous so you have to prepare for them. Take advantage of as much extra credit as you can, and take the challenge that she offers. If you put in the work and approach the work the right way you will be fine.

Dr. Rizk is a pretty good professor. Her lectures are mid but the TA lab slides have the majority of what you need to do the labs and HWs. 1 lab and 1 hw per week, labs are light work, but hws can take some time. TAKE THE CHALLENGE SHE OFFERS, it got me from an F to an A-. She provides a ton of Extra Credit.

The professor offers a lot of extra credit, if you don't do it good luck! must do the homework, a lot of people come into the class thinking Hw wasn't important n they fail. I hadn't taking a coding in over a year and ended with an A(be ready lot of work!). The people that complain likely did not put in the work required for this type of course.

Go into this class being prepared to self teach. The exams come from the powerpoints but you must attend class to know which topics will be tested and to what extent. Homeworks and labs are somewhat aligned with the material but mostly slide content shows up on the exams. Go to class take notes and focus. A is achievable do not depend on cramming.

Take Rizk if you actually want to learn!! I am a cs major with no prior cs experience b4 college, so it was a struggle but I can confidently say I am learning from her hw, labs, and extras. Microscopic amounts of leniency w/ extra credit, but TAs are goated and give lots of partial credit on exams. Love her examples of interview questions

Rizk is a very tough professor, but if you are really interested in majoring in Computer Science, I highly recommend taking her class. She is very knowledgeable, and her lectures explain the concepts really well. You have so many different opportunities to receive extra credit, so as long as you put in the work, you will do well in this class.

Mediocre/boring lectures. Extremely fair tests. Study up and you'll do well. Lots of EC opportunities, don't slouch on them. The material is hard, so be prepared to study. This is a weed-out, you will not pass by doing nothing. The TA's are great, reach out to them. Extremely fair course. Rizk haters gonna hate, but overall, she's solid.

Skill issue tbh

Among the easier CS Professor out there, literally high school data structures information. Hardest questions border in Leetcode mediums and easy. Beware though, it has a lot of homework, but it is easy too.

Dr. Rizk is an incredible professor! She really cares about her students and goes above and beyond to make sure we succeed. There's plenty of extra credit available, and if you put in the effort, you'll do well. If you struggle in her class, it might just mean CS isn't the right fit for you, because she provides all the resources to succeed. Love!

One of the best professor you could ask for data structure at UH. Easiest 5 homeworks, wonderful quiz to help you review for tests, and best of all, the cmap made you research to learn more about the topics. Her lectures are ez to understand, I would recommend you go to them to learn. Bunch of extra credits and really organizing.

i used to hate her and then when i look back she offered sooo many resources. her lectures are hard to learn from but it didnt even matter because she gave you a lot of online resources to learn from. there's a lot of work but a lot of it is for grade inflation and it gets you to practice anyway! TAKE THE CHALLENGE TRUST!
