Our mid-term was open book! How sweet is that? The beginning of the semester was kinda slow, but later on we got into some neat discussions.
Knows his stuff. Can't argue with him, he'll always win! hehehe
I did not understand anythink trew the course but I finish with -A so not bad. Do not argue with him he his always right.
He over articulates everything... repeats everything a million times and still it makes no sense to anyone in the class... Also, do not argue with him, you will not win!
Things can get confusing. He makes a lot of mistakes, but does correct himself. Overall good guy.
What a horrid prof! Always right, the homework was easy and the exam was brutal!
I think the teacher was great, very helpful and definetly knowledgeable in his field... Maybe the class was confusing, but that's only because it's philosophy! He also grades easy! Very generous with the points...
He's a good prof...but dont argue with him...atleast he tries to clarify some of the stuff he teaches. Midterm was tough...I bet the exam will be worste.
He knows what he's talking about, but oh geez!! He doesn't know how to explain it so that it makes sense to the students. He's easy on the marking too...
WOW, what a teacher. Don't you dare ask a question... your feel like you should have stayed in bed... and be prepared to write a million pages.. for a 5% question... it's fun like that... NOT!!! Overall... i think it's a useless class at Uni and he doesn't make it fun!!!
Great prof, he really makes you think hard. Bioethics is one of the best classes I've ever taken and I'm in science (as in I hate philosophy!). Pretty easy grader, very knowledgable.
Worst class ever, boring, very unclear in his explanations, made mistakes and did not explain correction made to his mistakes. Horrible.
Refused to answer questions by email and after class, can be flat out rude and condescending, hard grader, does not explain subject matter properly and then assigns an assignment due for 3 days later...Sketchy.
I don't think he is at the U of O anymore. Although by some miracle I ended up with an A+ in this class, time cannot erase the memory of sitting in his class back in first year and just feeling really nervous and doomed. Then at the final exam, his T.A. flipped out on a bunch of us for bringing more sources than we needed to write the essay...
This prof is difficult to stay awake listening to. His class isn't all that hard however... just stay awake and write your little heart out on those exams and you'll do fine.
This prof is intense! He speaks like one would read. It's virtually impossible to take notes in his class. Thank goodness bell curving exists or I don't know how anybody would pass this class. As weird as the grading process is, this prof makes us think and I did learn in the end.
Absolutely dreadful professor.
Very clear, speaks well and willing to answer all questions. Just don't piss him off and you'll be fine!
Terrible professor. Taught the course not even remotely similar to any other professor instructing the course. Vague. Disappeared within 20 minutes of the midterm, making himself unavailable for any possible questions. Refuses to use a microphone, abbreviates on a chalk board, and is very unclear.
Most condescending person I've ever met. Whenever someone speaks he reformulates what they said as if they are too dumb to express themselves adequately. Beyond that if you ever need help for anything and he tells you to send him an email. WARNING he will never answer your email. You're better off confronting him personally.
I would never recommend this teacher who talks condescendingly to students, never gives office hours, grades unjustly, does not read the work before he assigns a grade. He gives mid-terms without clarifying what he is expecting of the students, nor does he give the criteria on which he bases his grading on. He is the worst teacher I have ever had.
Don't take classes with him if you prefer two exams, multiple choice/short answer definition questions format. He will be one of the greatest profs youll ever have in uni if you like learning through discussion and critical thinking. All you need to do to get an A+ in the course is to actually THINK and write, instead of cramming.
This was without question my least appealing class. As an English first-language student he was very hard to understand. He was never approachable, no office hours. Tells you to go through his TA but never tells you who they are. This course was pretty difficult; And I wouldn't recommend this prof.
the class is useless. it's all about common sense. but he doesn't put anything online so you have to go all his classes.
He has a good sense of humor and knows his stuff, but when someone asks a question his answers arent't very clear. If you do not like philosophy he will sound boring, but if you have the slightest interest for the class you should like this prof :)
Love this prof. If you find him unapproachable, it's because you never tried talking to him. He is very nice. Great to have discussions with him. Annoyance : doesn't put stuff online. Yes, he reformulates what a student says but it's to make sure everybody has heard (not condescendingly). Will give you more freedom in essays if you ask permission.
Honestly, the worst professor I've ever had. He doesn't ever hand anything out and doesn't post anything online. He doesn't speak very clearly and rambles on about nonsense most of the time. His teaching methods are awful. I can't even deal with how awful he is.
pretty easy
Doesn't post anything online which makes things hard. Expectations are not clearly laid out and he doesn't really tell you much about what's going on. Boring lectures. Kind of monotone. Exams have harder questions than we learn in class.
This teacher is insane. Good luck to whoever takes this class. Never posts anything online, nor has slides. Talks in monotone and is dreadfully boring. If you need to take philosophy, try to find a different teacher.
I found him very helpful and interesting!
Doesn't use slides, chalkboard or virtual campus. His expectations were very unclear. I found the class very hard but I think that was mainly due to the language barrier (I'm in immersion). He reviews the material before tests and half the course is logic which, with practice, is easy to ace.
This professor is not helpful at all.I sent him a message because I had a question regarding the final project and he never answered and apparently it is common with this teacher as many told me.
By far the worst teacher I've ever had. He does not use powerpoint, barely follows the book required. Exams are 12 times harder then the examples learned in class. Just talks and talks, you don't have time to write down a sentence without missing what he said during. Not enough time for exams. Ask for help, says to talk to the TA. good luck
This prof is not helpful at all; if you ask him for help, he will either tell you to go to the T.A, or tell you that you should have listened in class. He expects people to know what he is talking about, and gets frustrated with the class when they ask questions. (Avoid this class)
You can see he does his best, but he is disorganised (note-wise) and behind the times (the most advance form of technology he used was an overhead projector). The evalutions were graded too severely. He doesn't give out his email or want to be contacted apart from during his office hours. Nevertheless he does care, he's just not good enough.
very dry, boring and uninteresting
SO Intelligent and clever, really knows his material and just about everything on philosophy in general. The only thing is that 70% of the things you slave writing over because you think is important is completely irrelevant which makes it frustrating but overall it was pretty easy.
Very old school prof, doesn't use blackboard or power-points. Go to class, listen and take your own notes! He'll get you to read the book and do so because he might question you on it on the midterm. His final was also horrible... a 27 paragraph take home essay that was irrelevant to what we had learned in class. Ok overall, generous grader.
He is a very intelligent teacher and knows his subject well. He barely used the book he made us buy for 55$. You have to really pay attention in class if you want a good grade, but otherwise, he explains logic very well, and his exams aren't too hard. The take home final has nothing to do with the rest of the class, so it seems useless.
Honestly, I was really worried about this prof prior to taking the class because most of the comments on here are negative. Overall the material is quite boring but not hard to understand. IT IS EASY IF YOU GO TO CLASS. He doesn't post lectures online. Fine for French Immersion students (I'm one of them!)
If the microphone wasn't so echo-y and if he spoke a little more clearly then I probably wouln't have as big of problem. But I am annoyed that I bought the textbook and he hasn't told us to use it yet... Just take your philosophy in English ok.
Very clear about what he wants. Mid-term and quizzes were very easy. The take-home exam had nothing to do with the class but was also pretty easy.
Overall, I find him to be a very kind and approachable prof! He waits after class and is willing to stay as long as he can to answer any questions one may have. One negative aspect of the course is that the text book does not relate overly well to the course. Go to the lectures! Very easy to understand if you're an immersion student!
Worst teacher I've had. Really old school - doesn't post any slides on blackboard. If you actually listen in class and take notes, it's an easy A. When the average of the class is too low, he gives another exam that can bring your grade up by 10-20 percent.
He is definitely taken for granted ! Super nice prof and really cares about his students. If you attend the class, the tests are really easy ! If you don't get it, go see him during his office hours ! Only down side is he makes you buy the book, you'll only have to ready 3 chapters and theres only one question about it on one of the midterm.
I do not recommend him at all!! Does not use BlackBoard, must attend class. Only need first 3 chapters of textbook. Expects you to understand as soon as he explains the concepts. Tests are harder than they appear. The final is a take home exam of a long 30 paragraphs. Other than his terrible teaching he is a nice guy.
He does not answer your e-mails. Even if something is really stressing you out. Horrible.
Old-fashioned, doesn't use blackboard nor does he really use the emailing system. Hard to understand at times, expects us to know every thing almost right off the bat. Test are harder then what they seem. The book was a waste of money, used it for 3 chapters for one question on the midterm. Take home exam has a ridiculous structure.
Horrible. Very old school, doesn't use blackboard & and never replies to his emails. If you skip one class you miss out on a lot of important information. Talks pretty fast and can be confusing at times. On the bright side, he's a pretty easy grader and he is a nice man.
He gives a lot of information on the subjects that are covered, although he doesn't use and visual aid often. (ex, power points) So you cant just go on blackboard instead of attending class. Over all great teacher, makes you do activities in the class, but I have to admit the lectures can get very long.
Good teacher
terrible prof. unclear, hard marker, doesn't use balckboard or any form of technology so you MUST go to class, even with that it is still very hard to get everything down that he is saying.
Awesome teacher, if you do the reading, go to class, and do what he said he wants for long essay you will pass for sure
Worst teacher of philosophy I've ever had. Does'nt explain anything and just rables troughout the class.
I personally hated that class. hour and half lectures felt like you've been sitting for years in class. Get lost in his own notes. Spend the whole lecture on ONE slide Doesn't use BBlearn, his email, even the mic. Midterm was confusing. Take home exam. Didn't talk about the group project until it was a week and half due. Avoid him at all cost
Funny, but lectures are slow. The questions for our midterm exam did not reflect on what we learned. Only two tests, no homework. After those tests, you don't have to study, but you have to do the take-home final exam, which is a long essay. Doesn't post anything on Blackboard. Textbook mandatory for midterm but only to read briefly.
Knowledgeable, but sometimes treats his students with disrespect and contempt. It is very true to that refuses to reply to his emails. He will explain some subjects very quickly, without using practical examples (in particular related to logic) and expect students to understand right away (and test them immediately after).
would not recommend this teacher
The prof knows well his course material, but the course is disorganized. In my opinion, going to class is optional, you can read the book and get full marks. However, attending class can help you when you don't understand some concepts in the book as he is pretty much explaining everything from the book that he wrote.
Grading criteria was very unclear for the first midterm, but it was relatively easy. We only had to read the first 3 chapters of the textbook. The exam was a take-home essay Mouelhi doesn't answer his e-mails, doesn't use Blackboard, goes over the material too quickly, and is very rude, arrogant and contemptuous. Avoid!!
For an ethics teacher, he's the most arrogant and confusing prof I've had up to now. He gave us no grading criteria for assignments, so you have no idea of how well you did. His textbook is a cash grab and doesn't reflect the course's content at all. Doesn't use Blackboard and is pitiful with technology. Thank god for the free 15% for attendance!
This teacher is horrible. This teacher hated me for asking too many specific questions ... what I can't learn ? I had to get my final exam reviewed and he also forgot 10% on my final grade. Impossible to get in touch with him. He doesn't use blackboard, had to e-mail the faculty to make him give me my grades. Honestly worse teacher I've had, ever.
YOU WILL ONLY USE THE TEXTBOOK ONCE ! -Final exam has nothing to do with what was studied during the semester.
One of the suckiest teacher of the university. Will not give you his slides, will be condescending if you ask for help. AVOID IF YOU CAN!!!!
The class material is abstract, and the lessons are just confusing at times. A very tough grader, especially when it comes to the final exam.
I loved his class! Yes he is very old school. He doesn't use blackboard and he doesn't have slide shows (mostly key words on a word document) but he definitely knows he material. If you have a hard time writing+listening this is not the class for you. I found the evaluations to be fair and he does give you the chance to up your grade if needed.
The first thing you need to know about this prof is that he has an accent. It isnt very thick but it can still be a little hard to understand him at first. Also I didn't like his style of teaching and I felt like what he was saying was all made up. I know it's philosophy... but still
Prof is pretty funny and good overall. Material is pretty simple and you only need the book for 1 question on the midterm. If you pay attention in class, you should be fine, he isn't too tough and even looks over your midterm to see if he can give you extra points. He'll explain if you ask questions and tell him you dont understand. take home exam.
Bras bras ourang-outan!!
NEVER TAKE THIS PROF. expects all his students to have PhD's in philosophy, takes little questions, gives the hardest examples to everything. Doesn't follow certain rules and just a horrible teacher. He loses your finale exam? YOU fail the class. If you need PHI1501 to get your degree take it with another prof. You'll thank me later.
Lectures are boring as hell but if you manage to stay awake you should be ok
This prof gets way too much smack. PHI 1501 is a heavy course, but this prof knows what he's talking about: he lectures clearly, and repeats important parts. The tests are easy: you just have to show up since there's so much material. He is a bit hard to relate to at times, but it's clear he knows what he's talking about.
Awful. Not clear with anything, rude and terrible lecturer.
This prof was nothing special: boring lectures and jokes, no extra explanation to anything, doesn't answer questions and doesn't tolerate students who speak during class. The 2 midterms were okay, but the final was an argumentative essay that was way too general to write.
This prof has been the worst I had this semester. He doesn't teach well, is rude and everything that comes out of his mouth sounds made up - like he's winging it the entire time. The syllabus states that the textbook was going to be used up until the midterm. I didnt buy it. Come the midterm - the second question was about the textbook.
Honestly the worst teacher ever. While he clearly knows a lot about philosophy, he is rude, condescending, unreachable, and unpleasant. As an immersion student I was already intimidated, and he made it worse. His TAs are good, and the midterm and evaluations are easy if you study the material (which is vague). Exam is a take home essay
Very unclear when explaining, makes you buy a useless textbook. Must listen in class or else you're doomed
Assignments and tests rarely ever mirrored what was taught in lectures. Lectures rarely were ever on par with his written notes. Doesn't answer emails regularly. Not one for technology, and refuses to use Blackboard. 0/10 would not recommend.
This professor is rude and condescending. He talks down to all his students when they ask questions and goes on tangents for most of his lectures. His tests are fairly easy as long as you understand the concepts of argumentation and he is specific about what is on the test (which one time he wasn't, so ask). Try and get a different prof if you can.
I found it really difficult to pay attention when he talks, he doesn't explain the material very clearly and he doesn't use blackboard. He sends the power points by email but they are relatively empty so you really have to go to class to fully understand.
Great prof! Makes everything clear. Says exactly what will be on the exam.
Even if his classes are boring... (it's philo)... he's a really good teacher. You know exactly what you have to do. He's patient and makes sure every student understands. I woud take another class with him just because he helps us have the best grade possible. He explains everything 2-3 times so it gives you the time to really understand.
I loved him! If you attend every class and you participate he will care for your grades and he will help you. He's so funny and he says the same thing but differently so it's easier to understand.
By far and to this day, still the worst prof I've ever had. His lectures are stale and the grading criteria is unclear.
Probably the worst teacher I had since I started Uni. He's just super monotonous and condescending. It's sincerely the best morning class to take since it's so boring that you can continue to sleep while attending class: AMAZING. For real, if you still have a bit of self love left, do yourself a favor and choose another class <3
I found this professor to be one of the worst, he is condescending and gets off on tangents that don't pertain to the class in anyway. Doesn't use brightspace and rarely emails the correct documents. 60 minutes of one class was spent reviewing the last class (not at the student's request). Would never take this professor again. Would rate a 0!
He likes a lot of participation
I wouldn't recommend this class to anyone who has philosophy as a mandatory class. The teacher; rambles about anything and everything, which makes his class super hard to follow, he doesn't use Brightspace (online website to acquire in-class notes) and his final exam was a at home project that was overly complicated and hard. overall bad experience
Awful class. He goes on long rants that have nothing to d o with the class! He doesn't explain clearly and is very condescending when people ask him questions in class. If you need a philosophy class I would recommend anything but this one
He is not a great prof. if you are debating taking philosophy in French or English, do yourself a favor and take it in English. The prof is not organized, rude and an awful teacher. He is not clear about what he wants and the take-home exam is a 27 paragraph research paper that he wants you to make it fit in 4-6 pages (which is impossible)
Class is so boring, prof is rude and bad. 1st midterm has one question that's about 1 chapter in book, either chapters 1,2 or 3. You could literally only read the resumé's at the end and still be fine. 2 exercices after are tough, you have to make sure to understand. And there is a take home final exam, 29 paragraph essay; was pretty easy to do.
Barely learned anything in this class. He doesn't know how to teach, his lectures tend to not make sense, his explanations aren't helpful, and if he is asked to explain something again, he just explains it the same way as before. Also, he somehow didn't mark my final exam, which resulted in me failing the class! It took me days to sort that out!!!!
Did not like this prof at all. He was really condescending and rude. He kept saying things like: "Not everyone at the same time" or "Don't be shy" if no one would raise their hands in class, but when someone did, he was quick to turn them down and basically make them feel stupid. He also contradicted himself and was a perfect example of sophisms.
begins each class w/ a sometimes half hour recap of last one so notes go hard to rearrange because of new info said each class. READ TEXTBOOK. take home exam; 'round 25 parag essay on random theme, learn that in less than 2 weeks, hand in with strict PARAG SPACING and "idc how u referenc i want footnotes". final didnt reflect class learning
the teacher is lost in his ideas
Professor Mouelhi was a great choice as an immersion student. He spoke slowly and clearly and made it very easy to do well. We had two midterms and a final essay in this class, all were incredibly easy if you went to class and studied. We had a textbook but only had to read the first 3 chapters.
This is first experience ive had about teachers no care about you. I almost failed this class and all this because he wasnt organized. Im going to save myself from a long paragraph but just take my word for it and DO NOT THIS HIS CLASSES.
This prof is one of the most caring profs I've had. I was always nervous to take philosophy but I picked the right prof. His midterms are fairly easy and he has very clear grading criteria. If you have a note below 25, he'll revise it and usually boost the grade. It can be hard to follow because he goes off track sometimes but overall it was great!
so caring.. is accessible outside of class! Thought exams were going to be hard but they were fairly easy!
He talks a lot and could be repetitive sometimes, but he makes sure that you understand the class. He helps a lot outside of his hours. Don't miss his class, the PowerPoint are not enough and incomplete and you will miss important information. Exams are not too difficult, and the Philo Book is necessary only for the first exam for 5 points.
He's a good lecturer overall and he can be a bit savage which was funny at times. In terms of teaching the practical material like the logic quizzes, he lacks a bit in that departement, so practice and ask questions to the TA. He does act really condescending if you ask a redundant question, so pay attention if you don't want to get lowkey sassed.
great teacher! He encourages people to ask questions and seek extra help if needed. He is so caring of his students. It was not an easy A class but with asking questions and a lot of practice its definitely achievable!
Complete waste of time course with a prof who gives you absolutely nothing to take from it . Take home final had nothing to do with what was studied in the course. The textbooks is useless except for one question on one of the midterms which asks you to summarize one of the chapters. It seems like he is making it up as he goes
The power points give you no information whatsoever. All he does is talk during the whole class (in a very monotone voice), and if you zone out for a brief moment, you'll have trouble getting back the information you missed.
Horrible prof for so many reasons. His PowerPoints have no useful information and the book has nothing to do with them. He always goes on these massive tangents and its very hard to follow and pay attention. He doesnt use brightspace and he can sometimes be very rude to students. If you have him as your prof, pick another class, just trust me.
None of the stuff viewed in class or in the textbook was on the midterm. He doesn't even prepare the TAs for exams so good luck getting the help you need. His lectures are a total bore so morning classes are hell. He doesn't use brightspace so pay attention to your emails. Also, his powerpoints have zero content so you must attend class.
I can understand why Prof Mouelhi may not be everyone's taste, it can be tough to study for his exams and yes, you have to go to class, but he is extremely responsive to students who care. If he knows your face, he will be willing to help you out and he has no problem giving 90s or 100s.
Very confusing. Final and midterm studying was difficult because there were no specifics. there's a group project and a free 15% for doing very minimal research which is nice, but the stress of not knowing what's on the final and what to study is unbearable. Niceish guy but im sure there is better
When I approached the prof to talk about an issue with receiving the homework through email, he was very rude and unhelpful. He made me feel like it was my fault for my school email not working and told me he would not give me special treatment by sending me the homework. He does give extra credit, but it was bot worth it.
Not the greatest prof. He's a boring lecturer and often says rude remarks to students. He will bump your midterm grade if it wasn't good which is a bonus. Final project is a 27 paragraph essay so be prepared. He tends to go on on long tangents and repeats a lot of the same things.
Would give this prof a 0 if I could. He should NOT be teaching. Do NOT take this class, choose any other one. Trust me. Lectures are boring and he speaks very fast. Content is confusing. Very rude. TAs are horrible. Makes mistakes in grading. Doesnt give clear guidelines or help students understand their mistakes. Avoid 100% as failing is common.
i honestly loved his class even tho he isnt as organised, if u take a bunch of notes and acc listen you'll do good, first test: basic questions + a resume of a random chapter he picks and second test just a buch of equations youll learn, i honesly looooved the classs and got a good grade
His lectures are EXTREMELY boooorriiiinnnnnngggg. He is hardly accessible outside of class and he barely wants to answer questions after class. He always tells us to go see his TA's. You need the textbook for the first exam and that's all. Overall, I DO NOTTTTT RECOMMEND. extremely boring prof. hated his class.
Very easy to achieve a high grade if you study hard and listen to lectures, grades fairly easily but is very boring and most of his information is irrelevant. Make sure to pay attention when he is describing how tests will be laid out because he tells you what to study.
Terrible class I would never take this prof again. Class material is all over the place and you dont get proper notes. He contradicts himself and class material is already confusing enough. Only good thing is that if you fail a test he will let you retake another test.
The only downside is that lectures are a bit boring, presence is not mandatory for this class. Just had to read 2 chapters and the exam was on those two chapters! He is so caring, if you get a bad grade he will let you retake the exam! Easy grading, very very very caring!!! Just do the work for an easy A!
I liked this prof! He really cares about his students. If you attend all of his lectures, pay attention, do your homework you are sure to do well. When doing so his exams become predictable. His class is pretty interactive. He asks a lot of questions and creates games for you to make sure you understands. He also makes a lot of dad jokes haha !
Hes a nice guy but Ill admit he was pretty boring. Its a boring class but very easy to de well if you apply yourself. Final is take home. 14 pages long if I remember correctly. Hes alright.
If you are new to french, don't take this class. I've been taking french for 14 years and I have no clue what this guy is saying. His accent is so heavy that I have to sit there and hardcore focus on what he's saying and even the slightest movement, distracts me and I am immediately lost. It takes a lot to get used to. Good luck :/
He is a pretty decent prof, he knows what he is talking about but it can be difficult to understand at times if you stop listening. Show up to class, do your homework, take notes and listen, ask questions and you will be fine. He is caring about his students and he makes sure you understand.
He's a really good teacher in general. He knows his stuff and will do a lot of practice in class to help us understand the course. He will give points if he see's that you understand the basics and you'll be able to pass his class easily. He's very respectful and will help you if you don't understand. by meeting him at his office.
He is awful and I mean probably the worst teacher ive ever had. He asks us if we have questions and when you do, he tells you that he doesnt want to answer/that you should see the TA. Im french and I have trouble understanding what he says because hes all over the place and goes on long drawn out tangents. He also cant explain properly.
WARNING Awful class. He is a horrible unfocused teacher, speaks to fast. I have never been more upset about a class in my life. He is unclear and rude to students. Doesnt respond to emails. Only gives you three exam chances to get a good grade, and is impossible to find time with outside of class! Do not take this class. Its not worth your time.
He doesnt have any powerpoint, so you have to show up to class and write down EVERYTHING he says - it can get very confusing. He sometimes makes jokes in class which makes the lectures a bit better.
He gets a bad rep but I didn't think he was too bad. Don't skip class tho - it will be hard to catch up. Majority of the course is logic exercises which are easy if you take the time to practice them. Final is a take-home essay. He was a boring lecturer and sometimes wasn't clear but repeats content so much that it was easy to understand.
Based on his pronunciation of French words in this English course, very glad I didn't take 1501. Lectures are boring, he is largely unhelpful.
Would not recommend him, especially if you have no previous philosophy knowledge. He's very confusing, takes back what he says, is not clear about what he wants. The final was a 27 paragraph essay that he taught the very last week of classes. Avoid him if possible.
Honestly he's a bit messy with his lectures. But even if he's not organized, he's not that bad
Exam 1 is based on his slides. He adds material in class. Exam 2 is just logic. If you can think through arguments, you should be fine. Minimal studying required. Exam 3 is the essay. Forget everything you learn in class and follow his format religously. He repeats his material for past 10 years. Use notes from previous years if you missed class
He is not clear does not tell you what he wants. Repeats himself allot, very disorganized.
Not the most organized prof. Was okay for my first philosophie class but if you have the chance to take someone else do it.
He shouldn't be a Philosophie teacher. I feel like he would be a better teacher if he chose any other department than Philosophie.
do what is humanly possible to avoid Prof Mouelhi. Very very hard to follow and exams are very hard and he barely helps because to him it's easy and he thinks we should all know philosophy already
He was overall all over the place, never followed along with a book and never explained in proper manner the calculations made in the class nor was he accessible outside class. Very hectic and he gets confused a lot.
Very hard to follow, he's also very monotone and it's hard to pay attention. He doesn't follow the order of his PowerPoints, so if you zone out for a second you're out of it.
If you have a choice, take the other teacher
Hes honestly not as bad as everyone says.. its really the class itself thats a little on the harder side but the prof knows what hes talking about I guess
He's not as bad as the other reviews make him out to be. I never joined his zoom classes; i just read the documents he posted and listened to his recordings. That was enough for me to get A on the midterms. Yes, his voice can be a bit monotone, but he knows what he's talking about. The course is composed of 2 midterms and one final paper. The usual
Easiest class I have ever taken at uOttawa. He is great as well. Great elective.
He wasn't as bad as people said in other reviews. The class wasn't super fun but he knows what he's talking about and as long as you study the recordings and other materials he posts you should be fine.
Professor Mouelhi gives a lot of unnecessary information. The course material is tough, his voice monotone and never tries to make the course material interesting. You never know what to expect in midterms, and no matter how much you try to follow and interact in the few live zoom, you'll still end up learning everything alone.
The class was unorganized and he only posted audio recording as his teaching material. The audio recordings were usually long and a bit boring to listen to. I found myself having to teach myself a lot of the material. Other then that the exams weren't to bad and the final was take home. Wouldn't recommend for online but could be good for in person.
He is fine, people given him a hard time but as long as you listen and ask questions during his zoom info sessions he is super nice and wants you to succeed.
Personally loved this prof. Never thought I would learn to love philosophy but he made the class so interesting! A very nice person overall also. He was always delighted to answer any questions, to which he gave clear and comprehensible answers.
Others hated him, I thought he was fine. Lectures are boring and he often publishes the wrong docs. First part you need to listen to everything he says and write it down for the midterm. Second part is logic exercises (easy money). Follow format for final essay and u r golden. Hes not hard just a bit unclear, go to office hours and u be all good
He is the worst professor I ever had dont take this professor if you have the choice
Really good guy. But he talks A LOT, that's a torture. Ask him about why 1+12 he's gonna tell you about Jesus :/ . As someone else said, a lot of unnecessary information which make it hard to follow. I guess he loves what he teaches but that backfires, it makes him TALK TOO MUCH. If you're enthusiastic about PHI, you may like him. Otherwise, RUN.
Don't do it. He is a nice prof and all he knows what he is teaching but he doesn't always convey it in the best manner. You do not need the textbook up until the last few classes and you barely use it so take pictures from a classmate.
Handed all my assignments on time, with confirmation. Never received a mark for any of them. Only F at the end of the term. He wouldn't respond to my emails. Advice, Get your mark as the course progresses.
Avoid at all costs. If I knew what this class would be like, I would have chosen the other professor. He is very disinterested in constructive criticism and does not take it well when we ask him to slow down. His voice is monotone and he rambles on about things that have nothing do to with the class.
Hes chill at there beginning but once you hit the first month, he refuses to answer questions, will interrupt a student while theyre talking just for the sake of stopping them. If you say something he doesnt agree with, he will bash you for it. I would never take this professor if I knew what I was getting into
Honestly if I had known how disrespectful he was towards students I wouldnt have taken his class. You simply ask him to slow down in order to comprehend the course, and he will scoff and laugh at you. He rambles about random things and are expected to get a clear understanding of course material. You basically teach phi yourself with the audios.
One of the worst teacher I've ever had. Says he doesn't have time to answer questions, cuts students off (and laughs at them for not understanding), doesn't give a study guide, takes forever to grade papers. Blabbles during class about random stuff and gets mad when students ask him to slow down. If you can, take the other teacher
You know when someone says a lot but in the end actually just said absolutely nothing? That's him. This prof makes it so difficult to follow and take notes. He's very disrespectful and rude to his students. He will cut you off mid-sentence while answering his question just tell you we don't have all day even though you just started talking.
Makes you listen to hours of audio recordings where he doesn't actually say anything, is super rude, disrespectful, useless and incompetent. Everything is disorganized, hard to follow his notes or even take notes as he barely even teaches. I would never have taken this prof if i knew how he was, unfortunately it was too late to drop the class.
He is extremely disrespectful to his student. Laughs at your questions and judges you for those questions. He talks about nonsense during his class, there's no organizations to his lectures and sometimes we dont even talk about the topic but when someone wants to express something or ask a question he says there's no time. Very awful.
the teacher would post the notes after our meeting zoom, so during the meeting he is the only one talking and you don't get the chance to ask question because he is talking about a lesson you did not read yet. you will enjoy his seminar and you get easy point.
This prof is so hard to follow. His notes disorganized and unclear. The first exam is hard, second one is okay. The final saves everyone because it's an essay. Would NOT recommend this prof to anyone.
The lectures are odd, they seem irrelevant but then TAs will tell you everything was explained. When he gives you a chance to ask questions, he will turn you away and tell you his recordings will explain them later. Everything is taught through recordings and short PDFs. He is bad at explaining what is expected and may give you a surprise midterm.
Lectures are 80 minutes but he talks about relevant stuff for like 20 of those minutes. Lots of reading that you have to do. Very inconsistent with what he puts on Brightspace; he'll add 3 documents that essentially say the same thing but then he'll delete assignments well before they're even due so if you start late you can't submit anything.
Not as bad as people say but not the best either. you have to do everything on your own, figure things out on your own as he won't help and the actual notes won't help either. teach yourself and you might survive
He probably wont answer your questions if you ask him one during a zoom call, but if you listen to the audios on Brightspace and do the work, the class is an easy A.
He spoke to students in a very condescending tone and was a bit rude but other than that the class was pretty easy if you pay attention but also extremely boring cuz he would post like 50 voice audios with no presentations or pictures and expect us to listen to all of them. I also think the amount of time he gave on tests wasnt fair
he is so rude and he doesn't care about his students his exams are not easy and not hard a lot of borings audios to hear
Took this class during fall semester, but there were mistakes in the corrected versions of the logic exercices. Apparently, it was because the equations were done by a computer. Sooo why was nobody double-checking the answers before posting them? Unprofessional and misleading. Condescending prof. However, show up, do the work and it's an easy A.
The class is not difficult but the teacher made it so much harder for us by not giving us the necessary tools to past the class. he can be funny sometimes but can be though and annoying too
I wanted to drop his class but couldn't. Too bad I could not give him a 0 and that 1 is the lowest rating. I'm sure many people share this sentiment. The TAs do most of the work. Noureddine recorded some awful audios that have nothing to do with the slides he sent and thinks he did a good job. Take my and everyone else's advice: choose another prof
HORRIBLE PROF! Very condescending, posts random documents on brightspace that does not even relate to the course and a lot of reading. Turned the bioethics class into his philosophy class.
RUN!There isn't much I can state about what I liked about this course. His organization is poor and doesn't even follow what he states in his syllabus. For example released seminar topic 2 days before the class when we were suppose to have one week to prepare. He also arrived late to the midterm and we lost 30min from the time we were suppose to have
This class started off not so good, we had to complain about the teacher and we really did see change on his behalf(from an objective point of view). The class material had nothing to do with the class. His grading was harsh at first but after complaints it got way better in my opinion, still don't recommend taking him.
45% midterm, 3x5% seminars that are pass/fail and 40% final (take-home). He grades VERY easy and the material isn't heavy. He's horrible at teaching, but he wrote the textbook so you're better off just studying chp 1,2,8,9,11,12. Never listened to his recordings, only read 1 document posted online, and skipped every class except seminars & got A+.
Overall good prof, not very difficult to understand and was very knowledgeable about the topic. Grading was not hard at all if you paid attention and read the notes. But you had to attend the lectures if you ever wanted to make sense of the documents and bare-bones notes. Overall, I would take it again
This prof is not as bad coming from most comments. Yes he is VERY monotone & you can get discouraged but it's actually easy coming from a student who never took philosophy. Overall, if you attend his class and write down what he says it's an easy grade. Yes he might not be the best but if you try and write something down, you'll get it !
He is so condescending and super passive aggressive during his lectures. His explanations and teaching is so terribly bad that no one seems to understand and even when we ask for help, he repeats the same stuff like that's gonna help? Might complain about his behaviour honestly. Worst prof I've had a uottawa so far.
The worst prof I've ever had
The professor can be tough and condescending at times, but if you stay engaged and rely on resources like unstuck study in addition to the free textbook, it's an easy A. Attendance is a must to grasp the concepts.
Mouelhi is a nice fellow. He expects everyone to participate and share their opinions, and he will absolutely grill you a bit on said opinions (so be prepared to defend them). It's not that deep - if you can be challenged without taking it personally, you're fine. Not a hard grader. Clearly wants everyone to succeed. Great to chat with after class.
He seemed super nice in the beginning but once deadlines to drop a class passed by, this man switched. He doesn't follow his own syllabus,no updates if there are changes. Class requires attendance his notes are just a mess. Avoid the front to not get picked on. Our second midterm had a section he did not teach. 2 midterms, 2 seminaires, and final.
Terrible class I would never take this prof again. Class material is all over the place and you dont get proper notes. He contradicts himself and class material is already confusing. Dont argue with him, he'll just make you feel bad. Very condescending and argumentative. Doesn't follow the syllabus or textbook. Changes exam dates without warning.
Very unorganized. Always changing the dates for everything without being clear about it. Doesn't answer his email. 2 midterms, 2 pass/fail seminars 5% each n a take home final. The class is easy but not worth the stress caused by his constant indecisiveness. Randomly changed my grade on a midterm weeks later n am still trying to get him to fix it.
PHI 1502 is a pretty dry course and he would just talk the whole time didn't use powerpoints so it was a bit hard to follow. The prof is a nice guy though. Assignments were easy but I didn't learn too much. Final exam was a take-home essay too so that was good. Overall it was kind of a pointless class.
Very nice teacher, passionate, nice to chat & debate with. Easy grades. No homework and midterms+final were either take-home or online. Does change dates without warning but doesn't do it on purpose (he's just old). Would 100% take again.
very nice person but very unorganized. exams are easy
Although you can't really understand his lectures, he is an understanding guy that gives good grades. He can be sassy at times but you can push through for the grade.
One of the worst professors I've had at uOttawa. The professor mumbles, just reads the slides, and changes the syllabus and exam formats last minute. The classes seemed easy but caused so much stress because of his bad teaching and poor communication. Seminars were okay (pass/fail) and really easy. You're better off reading the notes at home.
He's ok. He's good at teaching the material. He doesn't follow the material in the textbook, so there's no point in buying it. Many dates were changed last minute. The final exam doesn't relate too much to what is taught in class. He takes time to answer questions and clarify anything students are struggling with. He cares about his students.
DON'T TAKE HIM. He is very confusing. He deducted 2 points per question, but it says on the exam document that it's only 1 point per question.
He is very confusing. He deducted 2 points per question, but it says on the exam document that it's only 1 point per question.
Easy A+, just make sure you go to the three seminars
He's a nice person just not a good prof.
