40 multiple choices, 11 fill in blanks, and 2 short answers for the midterm. don't know it's hard or not, at least doesn't look easy. nice instructor anyway... god bless u
She's very helpful. Exams are tough.
spoon feeds info then makes exams extremely difficult, ambiguous q's, no clear ans. very boring class.takes forever to mark exams. mc and it takes 2 weeks and you have to go to specific room to 'view' exam.
she's reallie nice~ it's pretty easy to pass her exam as long as u memorize her handouts thoroughly. Her teaching is very thought-provoking with not just lectures but also vivid examples~Great!!
Afshar is a great instructor. She is nice, patient, helpful and pretty too~:) Her exams are hard but fair, and her classes are interesting and informative too. Overall, great instructor. God Bless..
She is brilliant! Extremely passionate about psychology and life. Gives numerous-relevant examples. Well organized handouts-But you have to attend every class if you want to understand them. Exams ARE hard-but not impossible. MEMORIZE the handouts.
She is very brilliant, nice, patient, passionate and beautiful. Her exams are hard but fair and her classes are interesting and informative. She is definitely the professor I would recommand for psychology. Focus on her handouts and you'll do fine.
bizzatch is harddddd, although shes a nice person, her midterms do not come from the notes and the text is useless in her classes, ended up dropping it
Tests are challenging but not so bad if you study and attend classes regularly and take notes.Very pretty with a wonderful personality.
Very friendly, interesting, and brilliant. Answers even the stupidest questions and elaborates with zeal on the most intelligent questions. Keeps the discussions relevant. Very good teacher.
She is one of the awesome teachers i have ever met.One should simply concentrate on her notes and will get an A!
Even at 830 in the morning...she's a pleasure to wake up for. by far my favourite class this semester. (everyone else pretty much sums her up! interesting, vivid examples, thought-provoking..)and the tests arent too bad.. you just have to know your stuff-just like everything else in life
she's extremely nice, and very helpful, with lots of informative class notes. her exams are very difficult and pretty specific, so you need to know all the information covered in detail.
you don't need to takes note! =) that's cuz the hand outs she gives out tells you all you need to know. you don't even really have to show up to class, just go over them and the textbook and you'll be fine.
exams are hard, don't like the filling the blank.very detailed questions.class is interesting tho. did someone say she is fasionable? not at all. don't like her style. like my granmother
EXCELLENT CLASS and teacher! just MEMORIZE her handouts and don't bother buying the text! there's one you can borrow from the psych lab two days at a time...saves you about $100! text is only needed if you want to go even further into detail but she's willing to answer all your q's.
she is a very good teacher, easy to understand,SUPER FRIENDLY, you can tell she love to teach, with HEART! she will makes u love PSY, her note is SUPER CLEAR,if her exams were little bit easier, u would fall in love with her!~
Seems nice for the first few minutes, but one soon becomes exhasperated with her spoon-feeding approach to learning; making an interesting subject boring. Exauhsts vast amount of simple material, making it difficult. Feels threatened by anyone who wants to really learn material or knows more about it than she does. Needs analysis but cant teach it
She's awesome!! the class is fun, and you don't need to read the textbook.. (I HATE THAT BOOK) the exams are pretty straight forward, but just know all your stuff, names theories, etc. take her, she's the best.
She is all nice and cutsie, until test time:( Then she pull this impossible exam out of nowhere, that has nothing to do with anything. and if yoy like her teaching then you are wrong! and a loser who like to kiss the teachers booty!
good teacher, but exams are lil hard especailly the filling the blanks. students need to remember the specific "names" and the excat spelling of some pretty hard words.
she's amazing. taking psych 1215?? u shuld get her!!!!!!! very helpful even after class and very clear, most definitely, u can only learn from the handouts and class notes ull be doin just fine.
fair exams, a nice lady. i really enjoyed her class.
She is a super nice teacher, and very helpful when you don't really understand the material. Her exams are not too hard if you attend her classes & memorize her notes. If you go to class regularly, you won't even need to read the text book, just study her notes & you'll be fine for the exams. Highly recommended!
Noushine is a gentle soul! She is really inspirational, and she welcomes discussion anytime. You have to study. She tries hard, and you should too! Don't take her class if you're not passionate and if you're not dedicated. Why waste her time or yours! If you choose to take her class....you will never regret it!
i love her class. very clear, brings good spirit into the class, very nice teacher too. take her if you can! midterms and quizes are fair. learn through her notes because thats where they all coming from!
she is one of the best teachers ive ever had...i LOVE her! she knows how to teach...and she has a really nice voice and shes so beautiful :D
First off, she's a hottie.. Secondly, she is an awesome teacher; VERY interesting and very helpful.. She always takes the time to listen to questions and actually cares what you have to say. The one thing that sucks is her tests, which are pretty tricky and tough.. even if you study a lot, you may still just squeak by with a pass..
Ms. Afshar is not only a beautiful teacher but she really excels in teaching. She gives very organized notes and wonderful examples in class to help you remember and understand the concept you're learning better. I recommend students to take her. Just read her notes in preparation for a test and you'll be fine. =]
she is a hard teahcer. Her tests are including mc,short answers and filling blanks. Sometimes even short essay for final. That is too diffcult. All other teachers only use mc. She sucks. But she is very good at teaching
Noushine is a great prof! She has great notes and handouts. No need for the textbook because she explains everything clearly. All you have to do is show up to EVERY class, pay attention and take notes. The only downside to her are her exams which are hard! Memorize the handouts for those! Good luck when you take her class. Overall, RECOMMENDED! ^_^
Wonderful! I count down in most of my classes but the way she teaches usually makes this unnecessary :D As others said, very beautiful person inside and out.
doing alright in her class. she is beautiful looking and very helpful. her notes are pretty useful and u dont need to read the textbook . absolutely recommended !
good looking, good teaching, good handout! but exams with MC+fill-in-the-blanks+short questions!!! But word hard and you'll be fine~
la meilleur professeur
i liked her a lot cuz of her great personality. couselling experiences help her give us real examples and those help! notes and everything is great but tests are hard, esp you have to memorize lots of names and theories and relate those to examples. a bit too much emphasis on biology and neuroscience
great prof! she's a pleaure to have as a professor. one of those hidden gems that you wish all your profs could be! very helpful and does a great job explaning all material. attend every class, add notes to the handouts she gives and memorize the handouts. don't buy the textbook...you don't need to read it
her notes were clear n' organized. lots of examples to help u understand. no term paper, but her midterms were hard: 40 M/Cs + 10 to 12 fill-in-the-blank + 2 short-answer Qs! too many theories n' concepts u have to memorize. no homework. 3 mids + final.
Ms. Afshar is hands down the best prof I have ever had so far in Langara. She has GREAT notes (no need for textbook!) and crystal clear lectures. While it is true that her exams are hard, there is no reason for one not to get a good mark in her class as she teaches well. Show up to EVERY class and pay attention and you'll do well. RECOMMENDED!

She has the most gentle & sweet voice so listening to her lectures were easy. She's really passionate and extremely helpful. Study her notes well but you need to know the txtbk too. HER EXAMS ARE HARD! very very very hard. You're expected to know every little detail of everything. If you're a slacker, don't take her. She's super nice tho.
Afshar's exams will kill you if you don't work hard. Other than that, she is a very fine instructor with clear lectures and very vivid examples. She knows her exams are hard, so she teaches in a way that'll make you learn and be ready for the exams. She is a good choice for people who studies bits and pieces on a regular basis.
Ms. Afshar is a great prof! She has great notes (in the form of handouts). She has clear explanations so coming to class is essential if you want to do well. However, she has VERY VERY HARD exams... This course had such a high fail/drop rate... Tip: Write down all that she says as it will help in remembering the material. Class is like Biology...

She is a good prof but the Neuroscience exams are EXTREMELY hard.
Very good at teaching but bad at examining - hard exams with material not covered in class.
Just go to class everyday and you are basically ready for the tests! BUT she is very picky about spelling..she takes off marks! be careful
She's an excellent prof! If you want to do well in her class, all you have to do is go to class and read her notes. She has great handouts which are fairly clear. Her exams are difficult but fair.
Knows her stuff, very nice and helpful, wants students to succeed but gosh she's a hard tester. She really expects you to know EVERYTHING. It's a lot of memorization and she admits that.
Nicest teacher at Langara. I took this course as an elec, and I loved it. Exams are hard but if you study all the notes, they are managaeble. The reason for her to take 2 weeks to mark the exam is because she is doing an analysis: she's gonna give marks for a question if half of class did that question wrong. Textbook are not needed.
Her Neuroscience class is really hard. You gotta study your ass off if you wannna get a good mark. SO much to know and she expects that from you. It's interesting, and she does a good job teaching it. However despite the huge masses of material, she pulls no punches in the tests.
She's great and encourages discussion of the material in her class. Not only is she well versed in her teaching topic, she also has background that enables her to answer more complex questions about more murky areas of the subject matter. (i.e. Brain biochemistry).
I thought I would have gotten a lot better mark! A lot of the questions on the exams were unrelated, to what was covered in class. Good Luck and Study hard and hope that it will be on the exam.
LOVE LOVE LOVE her MIDTERMS!!!
I am in her class right nowand she's amazing. She will give us a handout that makes NO sense, and make it crystal clear. She has a great way of explaining things, and I don't even have an INTEREST in psych. I'm gonna try to take another class from her next semester and I almost don't wanna leave this 'cause her classes will fill up :(.
I like this teacher because she is extremely patient and helpful when students need help on the difficult they do not understand.
One of the best profs I have ever had. She's very helpful to the students. Take a psychology class with her and you won't regret it.
Exhibits passive aggressive behavior. She is really nice to your face, BUT when exam time comes, she shoves it up your ars real good.
Her multiple choice questions are EXTREMELY HARD, and some of them do not reflect the material covered in the classroom.
I wander why she doesn?t get her act together and revise her exam questions, making them more reasonable and more relevant to what she is teaching instead of using the analysis excuse.
For the past few years she is using the same excuse for taking 2 weeks to mark exams. She states: I am doing an analysis and I will give marks for questions that half of the class answered incorrectly.
EXTREMELY HARD exams. She takes a sadistic delight in screwing up students with her exams.
Yes, I know what you mean?her neuroscience exams are suitable for Harvard University students.
Her expectations are through the roof. Save your money and your GPA. Don?t take a course with her, especially neuroscience.
She made PSYC so interesting and the tests are fare and easy if you study her notes
She gives you notes before every class, and you don't even need to really use a textbook because her exams are based off of them.
She is OK for introductory psychology courses?thats where she is getting all her positive feedback. However, if you are interested in second year psych courses, STAY AWAY FROM HER?EXTREMELY HARD TESTER.
Inconsiderate. She keeps rambling on till exactly half past the hour, causing students to be late for their other classes. Very hard tester.
Stop complaining you guys! shes awsome! you cant say shes a bad teacher if you did poorly on the exams... her exams are quite fair! you just need to study from her notes and you should do just fine. shes really nice so if you ever need help then take time to sit down with her.
She is one my favourite profs I've ever had..She's really nice and fun, and seriously, she's not that hard a tester if you READ your stuff guys..don't complain if you don't do the work, she's great!
The best teacher ever!!! Loves movies and is very interactive........methods of teaching are innovative and interesting...........
Great person. I enjoyed my psychology class with her listening to interesting cases related to the subjects, and various discussions and alive examples of different phenomenon.
Noushine is super sweet. If you ever have any questions she's more than happy to help. She's always in a good mood and her teaching style is pretty easy to understand.
THE BEST PROFESSOR EVER!! by far my favorite while attending Langara. She is so nice and her classes are so interesting that they intrigue you to come to class and want to learn!
AWESOME PROF! amazinggg woman... she got me really into psychology that now ive decided to get my bachelors in psyc... she is just the best.. very passionate about psychology.. extremelllyyyy nice and funny and outgoing. her notes are very simple and straight forward :) i highly recommend taking a class with her
In reality, I believe she cares very little for her students, one time i looked around the room during an exam and she accused me of cheating. Also, most of her questions from her midterms are not from textbooks, nor the study packages that she distributes. I don't want anyone else to fail where I have failed. Good luck.
VERY GOOD PROFESSOR LOVE THIS TEACHER, KINDEST NICEST BEST WOMAN AROUND
Friendly & approachable. Notes for PSYCH1115 are powerpoint and "fill-in-the-blank" style. You don't have to read the textbook. Cumulative. Exams=MC + short answers. No papers. No assign. 5% bonus avail. She really encourages class discussion though the topic drags on too long. She goes through material slowly which is good if you can't keep up!
Her Neuroscience exams are extremely difficult, which can be frustrating. But if you go in knowing you're going to have to put in extra effort to succeed, you'll be fine. She DOES talk well past the end of class, which sucks, but overall she's a great teacher.
EXTREMELY HARD EXAMS! She expects you to know everything mentioned in class. Take notes on the things she mentions on the side. YOU COULD VERY WELL BE TESTED ON IT!
I was very disappointed with this prof. She deviates from class topics all too frequently. She gives out pre-made notes that you just fill in occasional words (so there is no stimulation happening in her lectures) and while she says the tests are only based off the notes, there was so much material we hadn't gone over in class on the tests.
The notes are already given to you, all you have to do is fill in the blanks! The tests are multiple choice and short answer and based solely off the notes (maybe 1-2 questions from the book)! Very clear and understanding. Excellent prof. 5% bonus available.
Noushine gives out notes and all you have to do is fill in some blanks, this allows you to pay more attention to what she is saying instead of madly writing everything down. I found her overall method of teaching to be helpful and interesting.
Really good, easy teacher. Her tests are straight-forward and you basically only need to study the notes she gives you. If you need extra help she is willing to go the extra mile for you. Clear teaching style and gives interesting examples! 2 thumbs up.
She was a good teacher although very difficult in marking tests and projects. seemed to be trying to fit way to much content into her class's. This class was likely the hardest I have taken in langara. She does make extra effort for students and is very interested in teaching but has a bit of a "hard love" kinda personality.
I had her for psyc 1115 as well. She gives you the powerpoint notes with blanks that you must fill. She only tests you from those notes. The questions are straightforward. Her lectures can be interesting, but she can spend way too long on a single slide (up to half an hour sometimes). This prevents good pacing and may force her to rush later.
Hard teacher, grades a lot on smaller details. Goes on personal stories a lot, i liked it but some did not. Feels rushed sometimes and slow others.
Noushine is awesome! Very warm and friendly. Gives you copies of the powerpoint with blanks to fill in; very clear and tests are straight from the ppt (reviewing textbook always a help, though). Brings in human brains for examination! YES!!
Okay, I found she went on too many tangents in class, but they were all relevant. A hard marker, but if you pay attention in class you should do fine. Basically read the textbook and show up to every class.
Noushine is one of the most entertaining profs i've had. However, still, the material is very difficult and abundent. Soo DONT FALL BEHIND ON THE CLASS NOTES! the material piles on quite quickly. and dont buy the textbook. its useless. ask her for clarify if you dont get something. she is really good at that.
She isn't easy but who says easy teachers are good teachers? I heard that she was not easy, i worked a little harder than usual and that's all it took to do well in her class. the material of the course is very interesting and useful to know in life (if you care about your body, mind etc) and she makes the material interesting. the BEST teacher.
Best teacher EVER!!!!!!!
VERY SWEET, open-minded, encourages class discussion! Make sure you come to every class, PAY ATTENTION, make notes on every chapter AS you go along in the course, study for the tests real hard (her lecture notes + textbook notes) and you should get an A :) Definitely recommend her!!
super charming and professional! gives lot of interesting examples to enhance learning. easy 5% bonus. must go to class and take notes! i didn't really read the textbook and still managed to get an A since 98% of exams materials are straight from lectures. A++++++++ instructor!
Very friendly yet very professional. Keep up on notes and study the notes harddddd know them inside out. Challenging class yet she's very thorough and a joy to watch teach.
she is an extremely hard marker. Her questions are very tricky during the exams and nothing from her notes are in the exam. I took the same course with another prof and I got an A.I WOULD NEVER TAKE A CLASS WITH HER!!
Noushine is a lovely person. She always has a smile and is full of encouragement for her students. Her neuroscience course was definitely challenging given that it was only worth 3 credits. There's a lot of material and her tests are difficult. However if you're keen to work hard and study regularly, I would definitely recommend her as a prof.
She is so interesting! Best prof you can ever have in Langara
Noushine is amazing, so knowledgable and so interesting. Everyone says this class is really difficult but it's not that bad at all. I guess it helps if you like the material, and are willing to study for a good mark. I would definitely recommend her.
If you want to be informed well, She is the one to go to. She understands her materials well enough to pass onto students as well as for them to build good foundations for future studying in the field. As for test, it is not the easiest , but does not ask outside what she teaches in class, so skipping classes will cost your marks.
Ms. Afshar is a wonderful professor. She is engaging and cares about the success of her students.
Noushine was the most amazing prof I've ever had at Langara. She's so passionate about what she teaches and conveys the material in an easy to understand way. I had no prior interest in Psyc & now its my major. Take her class if you're looking for a prof that genuinely cares about her students success. Exams are fair-easy 85% slides 15% text
One of the best professors I've had. Her exams aren't easy, but she makes it very clear on what you have to do if you want to pass - study the slides. She also gives very good advice on how to prepare for her exams. If you have any questions, she will be more than happy to answer them.
I love her she's awesome, very clear and helpful. If you miss a lecture its not hard to catch up, she condensed the notes very well its very clear. The class consisted of 3 midterms and 1 Final and thats all your marks are based on, and some online assignments that are super easy! GPA booster
She's the best teacher I've ever had!!! Make sure to attend ALL lectures and read the notes she gives - you'll do perfectly fine on tests. I love her! :)
She's clearly got a strong passion for psychology and you can tell because she takes the basic intro psychology information and makes it memorable. Remember to do the practice tests in this course because some of the questions are straight up on the exams.
Very good class. Not only is the teacher pretty good, she is also very nice. Her lectures consist of a handout she gives where you fill in the blank as she goes through the slides in class. As long as you show up to class and get the notes you shall be fine. There is no paper or anything, just 4 exams.
Noushine is an amazing prof. She truly cares for her students, and her powerpoints are compact and easily understandable. Exams were also very easy. Highly recommend her!
Never rated a prof but use this website religiously when registering for courses, so if I can convince anyone to take her class, I will! Fantastic prof, who leads clear, interesting lectures. Provides easy to study, fill in the blank handouts for each chapter, so attendance is mandatory, but I never found myself dreading a class!
Very good psych teacher, exams require a little work but its college what do you expect?
She is one of the best teachers I've ever met in Langara. She can explain everything vividly and clearly using her own experience as an example. Only reviewing and memorising everything on her handout, you will be sure to get an A. There are also bonus assignments. You can get 5% extra for your final grade from them easily!
Noushine is phenomenal! This was my first foray into psych, and I was impressed! The way she formats the content requires attendance (fill in the blank handouts for notes - the content is on exams), but the classes are so engaging you won't want to miss anyways. Fascinating class + kind and interesting professor definite class recommendation!
I love just her lectures. I decided to major in psychology because of her. She is extremely friendly helpful, and down-to-earth. Lecture is well organized and easy to understand. Finally, SHE HAS A GREAT SMILE!
I LOVED her class! Noushine is a brilliant professor. She is extremely passionate about Neuroscience and it shows in her teaching. She is very insightful, well-informed, thorough, and not to forget - the friendliest prof I've had at Langara so far. The course is challenging given that it is only worth 3 credits, but she makes the class worth taking
I took her course in the summer and it was great. Ive learned alot about myself and others in her course Now im mindful thanks to her. Study her class handouts and you will be do great. Noushine is very wise, my favorite professor at Langara. Her class is not boring. I wish she could teach Biology bc she would be great.
Awesome Prof, the best I have had so far. Always there to answer any questions you may have. Criteria and expectations are clear. Provides notes you fill in for the lecture, which covers 75-80% of the exam material. Would take a course with her again. Neuroscience was a challenging course but if you put in the time and effort you can get an A.
I love the lecture. I only need to study her power point notes and listen to her lecture to get a good grade. I learned a lot about myself. She is very interesting. She has a lot of knowledge. I would take any of get courses again. She explains the class material very clearl and adds examples for an easier understanding. Thumbs up!
I loved her class. She has a lot of energy and makes the material interesting which keeps you focused and awake during her class. She gives a lot of interesting examples which clarifies the material. You only have to really study her handouts for the exams. I'd definitely take another one of her classes in the future.
Very nice and approachable professor, always give you feedback, gives extra 5% credits on Launchpad. Her handouts are very clear and organized, only ask questions from her handouts on exams, so no need to read the textbook. Genuinely recommend for GPA booster, if you really like PSY and want to get an A+.
Extremely nice and a great person. Tests are brutal.
She is one one the best teachers in langara , she is always ready to help and takes doubts and questions of all students irrespective of time . She makes her notes organised and easy to understand . Test level is a bit high . Highly recommended for students taking PSYC 1115
She's a great teacher who knows how to keep your attention. And i have a moderate case of ADHD. She's funny and her teaching methods are great. She hands out fill in the blank packets and goes over them during class, so you're paying attention and each class important and necessary barely had to read the text and got and A.
She is one of my favorite teachers; her lectures are so enjoyable and interesting materials. No need for the book just study from handouts. I found that launchpad activities are very useful for the midterms, it helps you get a really good mark if you do them.
She is one of my favourite teacher at Langara. She is charming and respectful of students. Easy to tell she is passionate about Psychology and loves teaching. The lectures were interesting and she gives you copies of the powerpoint slides to make notes. I learned so much from her. There's one group project and groups are randomly assigned.
Great professor! Noushine's lectures are clear, engaging, and very enjoyable. Her tests are fair, just make sure you attend all classes, review her notes, and work on practice tests and bonus material. One of my favourite courses!
Majority of tests are from her handouts -- study handouts is basically an A Tests consist of MC, few fill in the blanks, and sometimes matching/short answers Notes are prepared for you, you just have to fill in the blanks during class easy way to remember what she talks about, easy gpa booster and a wonderful teacher overall :)
Best Pscyh Prof ever! Exams are based on her class lectures so there's no need to read the textbook. Gives excellent feedback/advise on how to do well in the course/exams. Interactive class lectures and explains concepts in a very clear way!
1- attendance in not mandatory but i highly recommend you to attend all classes because she would bring most of the test questions from what she provide verbally in class. 2-record each class and listen to what you recorded. 3- there are few questions from the text book, read it after you master her notes
Noushine is truly a gem. You can tell she teaches the students from her kind soul and through real-like experiences. Not only is she a good professor, but she's also a wonderful, genuine, kind person. Take her class ASAP!
she is THE BEST. it was my first semester and she made me really interested in psychology, she uses really good examples which make the lecture tangible. she takes exams after each chapter, also use launchpad for bonus marks.
Noushine is amazing, def recommend. She prints out her notes for her students, which are fill in the blanks. Go to class to fill them out or make friends. Textbook not necessary (95% of exams covered off notes) but get Launchpad. If you finish 20 assignments perfectly (out of about 65 assignments), you get a BONUS 5%! That's a full letter grade!
Take her for any psych class and you'll be glad that you did. She's amazing!
She is a perfect instructor you can get for Psyc 1115.
Noushine is the sweetest prof I've had so far! Her lectures are interesting & she prints the notes out for you (fill in the blank format). Tests are very straightforward, if you study the notes you will do great. You can tell she cares about the students, highly recommend her classes!
she is an amazing prof Ive ever had. She is friendly and very knowledgeable. I will definitely recommend everyone to take her class. I really love her class.
BEST Prof for PSYC !
She is the best professor I ever had! She is always cheerful and energetic in the classes. But don't forget to attend classes and take notes in her lectures. Most of the content in midterms and finals are from her verbal lectures during the class. She is very understanding and caring. If you get opportunity to take her class, just take it!
She is a great prof. The only downside is she sometimes takes too much time answering questions during lecture that would be best asked during office hours.
noushine is one of the best profs Langara has her classes are super amazing . She is so into what she does and she can easily get you in the zone, very inspirational. She cares about her students and is very approachable if you ask her any question she is answers it well. If you wanna be knowledgeable i recommend you to take her 100%
This woman is amazing!! Very clear on what needs to be done in her class to pass- you cannot fail Psych1115 with her! Show up to class, read the textbook and you're good to go. Exams were easy- multiple choice and fill in the blank
I love her so so much. You can really tell she loves her job and she really cares for her students. One of my fav profs and I look forward to her classes every week. She postponed exams because students emailed her that they needed more time. Very democratic. Answers to the best of her ability when you ask her a question. Amazing lectures!!
Best Psyc prof for a reason. Her lectures are always entertaining, filled with her own experiences as a psychologist. She provides fill in the blank notes, and takes her time with each slide. Her lecture notes covered 95% of the material in the exams, and very few questions were from the textbook. We had Launchpad as an extra 5% boost to our grade.
She hands in fill-in-the-blank sheets and gives really good lectures. Make sure you write down the examples that she gives, since that will appear on the multiple choice exams, but if you happen to struggle with multiple choice exams, do not take this class.
she makes psyc so interesting, share her personal experience at the class, loved her lectures, but the criteria of psyc 1115 are harder than psyc 1215 because it is mainly focused on the biological side of psychology, don't take this for GPA booster, but if you are interested in psy, take it, you won't regret it
Noushine is an amazing instructor! She gives out fill in the blank notes and her lectures are interesting and easy to listen to. She spends time going through each slide and gives lots of examples! She is also very approachable and kind. Take her class!!
based upon previous ratings i thought this prof would be easy going, dont get me wrong shes overall really sweet but her lessons felt too long- 1) while giving examples shed take too long for explaining the topic 2) why is the library assignments for marks - 3) u need to study ALOT!! esp if you're not from science background
Honestly, I love Noushine. She's really into neuroscience, which you can tell when she explains parts of the brain, which makes the class more interesting. She has easy bonus marks, do them! Go to class, she doesn't post notes online. Overall great teacher, really recommend! (some ppl are saying it has biology, but it's only neurons)
instructor Used unique And interesting way to teach
Great prof! All of her exams are MC, there are assignments due after every 2 chapter with a discussion post. You get an extra 5% credit for completing the entire Launchpad section. She replies to emails right away and is always willing to help out! Tons of other ways to gain extra marks as well. Take her class!
If you're taking her online class don't bother! Her assistant pretty much does all the marking and marks HARD. Even with effort! I bet many students are struggling with me. She doesn't do class zoom, her discussion posts are useless because nobody has discussion EVER. She dumps homework for 2 weeks with a large exam + such short time! failure
Nothing like my past online teachers. think twice before signing up for her online course because you'd be doing it all on your own. The exams are harder to comprehend yet she gives you an even shorter time than any other teachers.
given the reviews, I had high hopes for this prof but she is one of the worst prof I have had. not enough time given for exams, posts useless notes and doesn't even post any lectures. she has made this a horrific course by absolutely butchering the execution. also unwilling to accommodate to students and lacks empathy.
Noushine is really kind and gives many opportunities for help and assistance. Her grading rubric is really straightforward, and if you complete everything, you're set for most of the class. The exams are a bit stressful to me because I am a slow reader, and we usually don't have a lot of time to complete the test (around 45 min for term tests).
She's not organized, doesn't have class discussion for more learning. Also doesn't care at all for her students, she just follows her guide lines no exceptions. Don't expect her to help or understand you. Just her assistant will do the work. Also doesn't give any feed back. You are teaching yourself this course.
one of the worst experiences of an online class i've ever had! Unlike other online teachers, this one dumps so many things on you at once, unorganized. Even starting the course, she started off wrong by not even giving a warning or great wishes to the first exam. She's not supportive & has no empathy. I am more appreciative to my past teachers now!
Noushine is one of the best instructors I've had. She has such an inspiring personality that made me eager to learn more of whatever she was teaching. Her passion for neuroscience makes her lectures captivating and engaging. She is very fair in grading, and wants every student to succeed in the course. I would highly recommend her!
Noushine was such a fantastic professor! I took her for 1115 and 2nd year neuroscience. She uses all of the knowledge she has about the brain, memory, and learning and actually puts it to use to help you learn. She gives interesting lectures and her notes are easy to study from. She took a load of stress off of me by being so good at what she does.
I learned a lot from this teacher. She is very authentic and care for her students. There is a lot of material to cover but I enjoyed that lessons were broken down into portions to facilitate learning from various methods. I highly recommend this teacher. She explains very well and give great examples. Her slides are a bonus to help you succeed.
May as well not be there... All of the grading is done by TAs and she is not accommodating. Skip class and read the textbook. Getting a good grade on the standardized exam is much easier than keeping up with all the homework
Professor Afshar is a VERY caring prof, very passionate about teaching neuroscience. She did have some troubles with scheduling/organization due to answering many questions on first lecture, but other than that she is very accessible outside of class and is ready to help you. The course is quite difficult, but with hard work, it is doable.
Don`t take neuroscience unless it`s mandatory for you or you`re super interested in it! Noushine make lectures interesting and doing her best to explain, but she has a high standard and teach us as we`re med students even using their book. Do the extra point tasks! Exams are EXTREMALLY HARD. Public speaking in group project is important.
I chose Professor Afshar because she was so highly rated, but in my first interaction with her she was immediately very condescending and disrespectful. She expects professionalism in emails but does not give it. While the course material is interesting, it's hard to be engaged with so much reading to do. Tons of notes. Extra credit is your friend.
Lots of small little assignments worth 1 or 2% that take a while. 3 midterms. Lectures summarize her lengthy notes into a quick and easy way to learn. Lots of reading and memorization although the exams are easy and all MC. I wouldn't take this professor again just based on the class structure. Too much information/messy brightspace.
her exams was unnecessarily hard and meant to trick students rather than test for understanding. lectures go in a lot of tangents an boring. she tests on the last hour of class after the lecture on new material which was so unreasonable?? her teaching style is just not it
Noushine is nice and her class wasn't too bad. It was an online class, and I like how she organized the content. I did find the tests difficult, and it really requires you to know the material. As long as you fully understand the material, the class should go smooth. She is very caring and responds to emails quickly. Overall an interesting class
Overwhelming amount of information that must be studied every 2 weeks for the entire semester. It made my semester harder as I was dedicating a lot of my time on this class instead of my other classes since I had to learn all the material on my own. Do not take this class if you are already taking in-person classes. There's too much to learn alone
Afshar's class can be challenging, but using resources like Unstuck AI alongside the textbook can help manage the heavy workload. Exams are tough but doable if you stay on top of the material.
She is kind and passionate about the topic, but don't take unless necessary. The exam questions are very nitpicky and hardly ask about the main concepts. There are no study guides, no practice tests or quizzes, and you must read the textbook as the lecture slides do not cover everything. She posts/emails zero reminders about due dates.
the material is very overwhelming and she doesnt really help with that as she doesnt provide any study help, she also has her midterm exams in the last hour of a three hour lecture where she teaches about information that wont even be on the exam so no one listens and its just a waste of time
Noushine is amazing! She's an incredible professor and so caring. Her lectures and very engaging and you won't understand the slides unless you're in class. One group project and basically marked on that and exams.
Neuroscience is obviously difficult but I don't think that Noushines lectures account for how hard her tests are. Questions are extremely specific and don't really cover main and there are also no study guides. Also she tests in the last hour of the three hour class which is dumb. She's nice but I don't recommend taking unless you really need to.
the material is too overwhelming. there's too much content for a first year course as she expects us to watch more videos while reading the textbook. good luck if you're taking more than 3 courses while taking this class. her extra videos and notes just regurgitates the textbook content.
If you're looking to take neuroscience, take it with any other professor. Her lectures are confusing and purposefully missing information. She is passionate about the subject which I can respect, however, it doesn't make up for her lack of teaching skills.
She clearly cares about neuroscience, but unfortunately, passion alone doesn't make a good teacher. The lectures are cluttered, exams are full of trick questions, and there's zero support in terms of review, reminders, or useful feedback. I spent more time decoding her assignments than learning.
At first, I thought maybe I just needed time to adjust to her teaching style. But it never got better, only more frustrating. The lectures lacked clarity, there was no structured guidance, and the exams tested on minor details instead of big picture understanding. It left me burnt out and confused. Avoid Noushine Afshar!!!
I went in with an open mind, hoping her style would grow on me. it didn't. The lectures stayed vague, the exams got worse, and there was zero support. She expects you to teach yourself, then tests you on tiny textbook details she barely covered.
I kept hoping the course would start making sense. It never did. Every week felt like a new struggle. She made things harder than they needed to be. The workload was ridiculous, and the guidance was nonexistent.
She's kind, sure. But being nice doesn't make the exams fair or the lectures useful. Expect to teach yourself everything from scratch. I got more out of Reddit than the actual class.
If you're taking more than two other courses, avoid. This class consumes your schedule. You'll be drowning in textbook chapters, side videos, and confusing slides.
She assigns way too much without guiding us. I was overwhelmed every week and didn't know what to focus on. The amount of time I spent studying didn't match my grades, and that just made it worse.
I don't mind a challenge, but this class didn't feel fair. The expectations were high, but the support was nonexistent. No replies to emails, no help with the material, and nothing made sense.
Her tone in class is cold and dismissive. When students asked questions, she brushed them off. I stopped asking because it felt like she didn't want to deal with us.
Nothing in the lectures lined up with the textbook or the exam. I was always guessing what to study. I did every reading, watched every lecture, and still felt unprepared for every test.
It felt like she was teaching for herself, not for us. The lectures were messy, the workload was brutal, and she gave no direction. We were left to figure it all out on our own.
The exams were random, the grading unclear, and there was no way to know how we were doing until it was too late. I walked out of every test confused.
She'd spend half the lecture talking about her personal life, then rush through actual content like we were supposed to already know it. It was exhausting.
I couldn't follow her lectures at all. She jumped between topics with no transitions, skipped key ideas, and left us guessing what was even important.
The workload was honestly unmanageable for an intro class. We were expected to read, watch lectures, then be tested on completely different info. Nothing aligned and it was overwhelming. It felt like I was studying 3 courses worth of material for just this one. She expects way too much without support.
She talks either way too slow or way too fast, and often gets off track with personal stories. I couldn't stay focused in class because the delivery was so inconsistent. It's hard to stay engaged when the pacing keeps changing. I started skipping because I wasn't learning anything. Her teaching style doesn't work for me at all.
I wanted to like her — she clearly loves the subject. But passion alone doesn't make someone a good teacher. Her lectures didn't make sense, her tests were harsh, and she never offered support. I felt defeated by mid-semester. Not worth the stress.
Her tone can be extremely dismissive. When students asked questions, she often brushed them off or acted irritated. It made it hard to speak up or ask for help. It really killed the learning environment. I felt small and unwelcome.
This class made me feel dumb every single week. Not because the content was hard, but because nothing was explained in a way that actually helped. I kept rereading things on my own to try and figure out what she meant. It wore me down. I started dreading every lecture.
She lectured like we already knew everything. No breakdowns, no clarification, just nonstop info. If you're not already familiar with the material, you're toast. It wasn't just hard, it was inaccessible. The teaching style just doesn't work for most students.
She seemed irritated whenever someone asked for help. It created a really uncomfortable environment. We're here to learn — we shouldn't feel bad for asking questions. It made me shut down. I stopped participating altogether.
The lectures didn't match the slides, and the slides didn't match the tests. It was a total mess. You couldn't rely on anything she said. Studying felt like trying to read a map with the wrong directions. Nothing made any sense.
The amount of reading she assigned was insane. And barely any of it showed up on exams. I wasted so many hours on irrelevant content. I've never felt so burnt out by such little payoff. I'm never taking her classes again.
The lectures were straight-up boring and unclear. She just read off slides with no energy or explanation. I stopped attending because I wasn't getting anything out of it. It felt like a waste of time. Don't waste your money kids
She gave the impression that we should already know everything. When we didn't, she acted annoyed. Isn't the point of a class to teach? This felt like punishment for being new to the subject.
The most stressful course I've ever taken, not because of the content, but because of the way it was run. Poor communication, harsh grading, no support. It didn't have to be this hard. She made it harder than it needed to be.
She talks so slowly I found myself zoning out constantly, then suddenly speeds up when something important comes up. There's no structure or real guidance. I stopped attending lectures because they felt pointless. The exams were brutal.
I really tried to adapt to her teaching style but it honestly got worse with time. She jumps between ideas without warning and doesn't highlight what matters. I felt lost every single week. Grading was confusing and harsh. I wouldn't take her again.
If you're taking more than one course, be warned.. this one takes everything out of you. No study guides, no practice questions, and way too much reading. I didn't feel like I was learning. I felt like I was barely surviving.
I went in genuinely curious about psychology. I left questioning my ability to learn. The lectures contradicted the textbook, the grading was punishing without rationale, and feedback was virtually nonexistent. You're left grasping at straws with zero support.
I've taken difficult courses before, but this was different. It was intellectually disorganized and emotionally draining. The professor seemed indifferent to student confusion and overwhelmed by her own material. It made me question the value of the entire program.
It wasn't a terrible class, but it wasn't great either. The grading was stricter than I expected, and it was sometimes unclear what she wanted from us in assignments.
I liked the textbook and found the material interesting, but the lectures didn't always match what we were tested on. I had to do a lot of independent studying to stay on track.
Grading felt random. I did better on assignments I rushed than ones I worked hard on. Disappointed
The lectures often felt like she was just reading slides. I didn't feel like I learned much. I stopped going after a while because I got more from teaching myself.
She jumped from topic to topic without explaining how they were connected. I felt like I was missing something the whole time. It was exhausting.
She made it very clear she didn't want to be questioned. Every time someone asked something, she sighed or gave a passive-aggressive response. It made me and others stop trying altogether. Honestly, I felt stupid for even trying to engage.
I got an A, but I don't feel like I earned it in any meaningful way. I memorized what I could and guessed the rest. There was no feedback or engagement. I left the course with nothing but a grade.
She spent half the class talking about herself. It wasn't even related to the course.. it was just personal rants. We were all confused and kind of uncomfortable. It felt unprofessional and like a waste of tuition.
This course made me feel like I didn't belong in college. I thought I was the problem, but everyone else I talked to felt the same. The way the content was delivered just didn't make sense.
There was no connection between the lectures and the exams. We were tested on details that were never mentioned in class or clearly explained in the textbook. It felt unfair and left me feeling lost.
The lack of study materials made it nearly impossible to prepare for exams. No practice questions, no study guides , just the textbook, which doesn't cover everything she tests on. I felt completely unprepared.
The grading was unpredictable. Sometimes small mistakes meant huge point deductions, and there was no explanation. It felt like the goal was to fail as many students as possible rather than teach.
Her pacing was all over the place, sometimes too slow and boring, sometimes speeding through important concepts. It was hard to know how to study or what to focus on. I left most classes confused.
She rarely showed up on time and would cancel class without notice. It was disrespectful to students trying to manage their schedules. It made the whole experience feel unprofessional.
The workload felt unfair for a first-year course. It seemed like she was expecting graduate-level work without giving the proper support. I was stressed out constantly trying to keep up.
The exams didn't match the material we were taught. I spent hours studying irrelevant content, while the actual test focused on details we never covered. It was incredibly frustrating.
Noushine Afshar seemed more interested in talking about her own experiences than teaching the material. It made the class drag and felt like a waste of time. I ended up skipping most lectures.
The course was disorganized from start to finish. Deadlines kept changing, and instructions were unclear. I spent more time figuring out what was due than actually learning.
It was hard to stay motivated when there was no feedback on assignments. I never knew how I was doing or how to improve. It felt like submitting work into a black hole. I don't recommend Noushine Afshar!
Her teaching style felt outdated and disconnected. It was hard to relate to the material because it wasn't explained in a clear, engaging way. I found myself checking out every class.
Nothing lined up: the textbook, the lectures, and the exams all felt like they were from different classes. We'd spend hours watching lectures and reading chapters, then none of it would be on the midterm. I started second-guessing everything I studied.
There was a complete lack of communication. No announcements, no updates, no answers to emails. The silence just added to the stress. I didn't feel supported or guided.. I felt ignored.
It felt like everything about this course was designed to make students struggle. No rubrics, no feedback, no clear outlines, just deadlines and penalties. I felt like I was being tested on things I'd never been taught properly.
She spoke like we should already understand things that were never explained. When I emailed her for help, I either got no reply or something super dismissive. I started relying on YouTube and Reddit more than anything she taught.
Her priorities felt off. she focused on tiny details nobody cared about and skipped over the bigger ideas. It was like we were supposed to guess what she thought was important. It made everything feel random.
There were no practice exams, no study guides, no office hours that actually helped. I felt completely on my own. It's hard to stay motivated when you don't feel supported by your own instructor.
The way she lectured made it hard to concentrate. She jumped around a lot, brought up unrelated things, and I often walked out not really knowing what the key takeaways were.
There was zero communication about our grades. I had no idea how I was doing until the final mark came out, and by then, it was too late to adjust anything. Horrible prof, avoid her.
The participation marks felt totally random. Some people never showed up but got the same marks as those of us who tried. It didn't feel fair.
Her tone toward students could be condescending, especially when someone didn't understand something right away. It made asking questions feel unsafe.
She relied heavily on outdated videos and slides that hadn't been updated in years. It felt like she was checked out and not invested in actually teaching us.
Sometimes she spoke so quietly or mumbled that I had to replay lecture recordings multiple times to understand anything. It was exhausting.
Communication was poor. Emails went unanswered for days, and reminders about deadlines were rarely sent. It felt like students were left to figure things out on their own.
Prof Afshar always gave the impression that we should already know everything. When we didn't, she acted annoyed. Isn't the point of a class to teach?? This felt like punishment for being new to the subject.
If i could describe her in a paragraph i would say that sometimes she can be nice. Most of the time she talks way too fast, she stupidly skips important explanations, and then tests us on small random things. It made me feel dumb, even though I was genuinely trying my best. And she never replies to her emails smh.
WARNING! Lectures never lined up with the textbook or the exam. i always had to guess what to study. I did every reading, taken down notes, watched every lecture, and somehow still felt managed to always feel unprepared for every test. Her exams are more advanced compared to other profs, you less time to complete it which is very unfair.
I expected to work hard. I didn't expect to teach myself everything while being talked down to and ignored. The grading made no sense, the materials didn't align, and there was no help when we asked.
The workload was insane, and nothing was explained. She talked fast, skipped steps, and then tested us on things she never taught. I kept thinking it would click. It never did. I don't have many regrets but i guarantee you that i regret enrolling in this course. She made me hate a subject I was excited to learn.
Every lecture felt like she was thinking out loud with no plan. She'd jump topics, ramble about her day, then suddenly throw out something that ends up on the test. There were never any clear objectives.
It's like she never planned her lectures. She just opens her slides and starts talking about whatever comes to mind. There's no takeaway points, no helpful summaries, just an overwhelming jumble. I was left to teach myself everything just so i could barely pass.
Afshar clearly knows her stuff but can't explain it in a way that makes sense. Her lectures are confusing and don't align with the textbook. The workload is insane for a first-year class, and she gives almost no feedback. I was overwhelmed and stressed out the entire semester.
The workload is ridiculous, especially with other classes. Extra videos just repeat textbook info, and slides don't match lectures. Bad professor, shes rude and messy.
Afshar's lectures are long, slow, and hard to follow, and she doesn't post helpful notes or recordings. I found myself skipping class because it felt like a waste of time, only to realize I still had to learn everything on my own later. The exams were stressful and focused on obscure details, not the big ideas.
Afshar's extra videos just repeat textbook info without adding clarity, and the slides don't match what she says in lectures. I constantly felt behind and overwhelmed, with no real guidance on what to prioritize. It made what should have been an introductory course feel like a nightmare.
I wanted to like this class. I tried. But she made it impossible. The lectures didn't match the textbook, grading was inconsistent, and when I asked for help, I never got any help. Horrible prof
Every lecture felt like she was thinking out loud with no plan. She'd jump topics, ramble about her day, then suddenly throw out something that ends up on the test.
I don't want to be harsh. I know teaching isn't easy. But I felt the class lacked empathy. Not everyone learns at the same pace. There wasn't enough room for questions or discussion.
This class felt more like an online textbook subscription than a college course. We barely saw the instructor, and when we did, it felt rushed and cold. Feedback was minimal and super delayed, and every time I emailed with questions, I either got ignored or was given a generic reply.
Honestly, I felt like we were just numbers on a spreadsheet in this class. No attempt was made to learn our names, connect, or even explain concepts in a student friendly way. If you asked questions, it sometimes felt like you were bothering the instructor. Would not recommend unless you're okay teaching yourself.
Honestly, I regret not dropping this course early. I kept hoping it would get better, but it never did. Some students did well, probably those with prior psych experience or a science background but for people just like me thats just starting out, it felt way too complex and inaccessible.
Her exams were at an advanced level, meaning the questions were more challenging and students had even less time to complete them, typically with 10 minutes cut from the usual exam duration.
The workload in this course is intense, nearly impossible to manage with more than 2 other classes. There's way more homework than other profs, tougher exams with less time, and what she teaches doesn't match what you're tested on. She also deducts heavily for minor citation errors. It feels unfair.
Exams are unpredictable and don't reflect what's taught or assigned. You might spend hours on certain topics in lectures or homework, only to get tested on something completely different. It's frustrating and feels unfair.
The pace is way too fast. She moves through topics quickly without making sure everyone understands. If you miss a class or don't get it right away, catching up is a real challenge.
She shows favouritism, students who speak up or ask lots of questions seem to get better treatment and grades, while quieter students get overlooked or harsher feedback.
Attendance feels mandatory because she covers so much during class that missing even one session puts you behind. There's little flexibility for absences or catching up, which adds stress if life gets busy or unexpected issues come up.
Afshar is too advanced. If you have not studied a little bit of psychology before starting this course then you're kind of cooked. She has more challenging assignments, exams are brutal because you not only have more questions but you have harder questions and way less time to complete the exam compared to other profs. Not fair.
Shes always late to class, sometimes by 10 or 15 minutes. Then she'd rush through the material so fast that you can't write anything down or understand. Sometimes the class is canceled without notice. She takes forever to reply to emails. Office hours are impossible bc she schedules them at times when most students have other classes.
I think she's a very good teacher. Her passion for psychology really comes through in her lectures, and she has a great way of breaking down complex concepts so they're much easier for me to understand.
She is not as bad as everyone says she is. You have to be a good student and do as expected and no doubt that she will be a good professor in return. Seems to me alot of students did bad in her class hence the bad reviews, who knows. Personal experiences are subjective
Her exams are super difficulttttt! Don't recommend her class at all
Her online course is too overwhelming. Not only are we supplemented with a large amount of reading with the textbook, slides, videos, and lectures are also mandatory. The information she expects us to know is excessive, while assigning dozens of tasks that would make the class extremely overwhelming. It feels like I am taking a second year course..
tons of meaningless tasks w no practice AT ALL, reads off slides and its notes. uninteractive, boring, and you gotta drop 60$ on the achieve course and its completely not optional and still somehow useless. my 12th grade psychology intro was the only reason im lowkey doing well, so itll be really difficult for those w no background to catch up.
if you have any respect for yourself, don't take her; otherwise, be my guest.
Pls don't take any of her classes. She rlly can't teach. Just gives out so many assignments and expects students to know the material and complete the hw. Doesn't rlly prepare students for her exams.
shes a good teacher just dont take her online class itll be really difficult to balance because its so content heavy she will not give you any chances whats so ever for any late assignments so its verryyyyy risky taking her class.
If we separate the prof from the course, she is a wonderful and kind professor. But the way she teaches is just reading off the slides. Compared to other profs she is overkill with her work.
she is the worst professor at Langara! I recommend not to take this course. She is really biased and don't understand your issues. WORSTEST!!!. NEVER TKE HER COURSE!!!!!!!
Noushine Afshar is a great professor that cares a lot for students success. I took the course online, so I cant speak for how in-person lectures would be, but the slides are very informative and I liked the achieve platform for learning. One piece of advice is to make sure you read all instructions for assignments and library tutorials clearly.
If you love psychology, protect your peace and avoid this class. It's an intro course that feels like a final boss level... Exams include "trick" questions and the vibe is more “gotcha” than teaching. Not beginner-friendly at all, especially for first years.
Doesn't accept late assignments. Very strict on exams, so no matter what even if you're on the verge of dying you have to show up and write your exam. No excuses, No exceptions, NOTHING! No flexibility. She should've been a military commander not a psychology instructor.
Her exams contain mc, short answer, and confusing fill in the blank questions. If not for my previous course experiences, I would've not done well. Don't take this course for a GPA boost, since you will be dedicating a lot of time for a good mark. She has no leniency for any late assignments, so work ahead.
I took this class online and the experience was great. Noushine provided many reading materials that engages students to learn well. This course is test heavy as each test (2 in total) is weighted 35% but is fairly simple if you study hard and read material. She is kind and strives for each student to be successful.
She replies to emails fast. The midterm and finals are weighted pretty heavily 35% each so don't mess up one. There are a lot of achieve and homework/library tutorials to complete plus this one annoying syllabus quiz. I wouldn't take her for an easy A to transfer unless you have no choice for credit and your other courses can tank your gpa a bit.
Yeah...no. Just no
Tests are rather hard with niche, unexpected questions. I struggled to pay attention to her lectures. She's nice but not flexible at all on deadlines or missed assignments. Course is incredibly textbook-heavy and her slides are rather convoluted.
