This is in general just a difficult class at the university. Nuño made it easier by having daily reading quizzes over assigned readings as opposed to the vocab/ form tests I heard about. It's still a hard class, but I think he's the best teacher to get for it.
This class is UNNECESSARILY hard. I love spanish and have made high Bs and As in all previous classes and made a D in this class. He gives you no feedback on grades, doesn't answer emails, and doesn't do department tests like every other class in this section. My class went from 25 people to 8... i would have dropped if i could. AWFUL
Kind of a jerk. It's a really tough class with daily reading assignments and quizzes. Not very helpful or understanding to those who need help. Definitely plays favorites so sucking up might work, though I woultn't reccomend it. Try to find another teacher.
This was one of the worst teacher I had I would not recommend this class to anyone. He has an extreme bias towards America so good luck. If I were you I would drop while I still could.
He's a hard grader and his lesson plans are the same everyday so it can get really boring. Tests are just like he says, no surprises. But it's a lot of memorizing and you always have to make a presentation.
Nuño is an awesome professor. He's very enthusiastic and passionate about what he does. Can be a little harsh sometimes, but do your work and you'll be fine. Not a hard course, but he expects you to get stuff done. Definitely take it!
the worst spanish teacher i have ever had. EVER. awful awful awful. only likes the people who are fluent in the class and is so mean to everyone else. like the person below me, half my class dropped. DO NOT TAKE HIM THERE ARE MUCH BETTER EASIER TEACHERS.
Nuno is a great professor to those who are actually willing to work in his classes. He definitely isn't a push-over, and he expects his students to put their best effort into their work. He is strict, but I believe polite, and isn't going to treat his students like babies. Even though I believe I deserved an A in the class, I have no regrets.
Nuno is clearly very intelligent and he is passionate about what he teaches, but he is not very good at engaging the class. His class tends to be pretty boring; he has the same lesson plan everyday. It seems like he plays favorites, and doesn't seem to like the students that don't know as much as he does. The class is easy, but he is not.
Professor was great. I went to him prior to the semester and explained my difficulty speaking, and he was very understanding and always willing to help. The tests are pretty easy and self-explanatory. No surprises. Prof was definitely willing to work with the class when we asked.
Easily the worst language professor I have ever had. I'm a senior and I have taken over 16 language courses at UGA, and Spanish is my 2nd of 4 languages. He knows the material but has no clue how to teach at all. Proof that a PHD doesnt mean you know how to be an educator. He's rude, biased, made seveal racial comments & was impossible to contact
Worst teacher at this university. I imagine the only good comments here are from the small handful of people that he obviously favors over anyone else. As a senior who has taken over 7 different language teachers, I don't wish nuno castellanos on my worst enemy. Rude and unhelpful. Openly dislikes some students.
He is always very well prepared for class and enthusiastic about the topics. He stimulates interesting discussions even when the students came not prepared for class. His class was my favorite Spanish class because of how the course was organized, incorporating not only literature. He is a great professor, I would love to take more classes with him
Nuno was very knowledgeable in the subject and really helped me to learn and review grammatical concepts. The class had a welcoming atmosphere and the instructor highly encouraged us to participate in class. I do feel this course has helped my conversation skills.
The professor motivated us to do the work by having a quiz every class and a participation grade. That was a very effective strategy and I plan to use it when I become a teacher.
Great professor, funny, makes class interesting. For those who say he picks favorites, that is just not true. If you go to class and do your work then you'll do good. Don't expect to be a slacker and do well in his class. I'd take him again
Nuno is one of the best professors I have ever had, hands down. He expects a lot from the students. The homeworks are never busy-work, the 'pop quizzes' are difficult, and the tests are fair. He is thorough, very helpful, and really REALLY funny. Expect to work, but expect to learn as well.
Nuno challenges his students. He expects you to up hold your end of the work but if you put in the effort you will get back equal or more effort from him.I also like how on days when he could tell we were not fully there he would take the time to make a joke to get our attention. Overall he is an awesome teacher and his class is really effective.
I believe Dr. Castellanos did a very good job teaching this maymester course. He made sure we understood the material, and he was always open to answer questions or further explain topics. I greatly enjoyed this class. Dr. Castellanos made a course that has the potential to be quite boring into a course that was very interesting.
Great instructor. The required participation to keep your grades up is helping challenge us to think and learn. I love that it is a really small class. Nuno helps everyone get comfortable with being around each other and mades us more comfortable to speak the language.
He's a great teacher--the content has helped me in subsequent courses. Yes, it's pretty heavy load-wise, but ultimately he gives you the grade you deserve. Overall, not an easy A class, but with some effort, an B+ class. Also, he loves participation, so keep that in mind--he can be intimidating, but that's because he knows if you're trying or not.
I like that Nuno strongly enforces a no-English rule in class because it encourages us to have everyday conversations, something I'd really like to improve on. He was an excellent teacher and extremely helpful in explaining and teaching us.
Dr Castellanos is a great professor who genuinely cares about his students and wants to see them preform well in the class. He is great about being available for questions and will work hard to help his students out in whatever way he can.
The structure of the class, following strictly along the syllabus and the discussions over the readings were carried out phenomenally. I really enjoyed the short stories and essays. Nuno did an outstanding job.
I really enjoyed how the entire class was taught in Spanish. Prof. Castellanos really urged us to communicate in Spanish without making us feel stupid or bad at Spanish. I learned a lot, and I think I got a lot better at participating at the end of the semester.
WORST teacher at this university! i have never gotten less than a B+ in any Spanish class (8 years) & nuno gave me a C. he was my only teacher who didn't post a teacher evaluation because he knows he will get TERRIBLE reviews! during a test he walked out & left the classroom before taking mine & i had to chase him! disrespectful & so rude!
Prof. Castellano was really funny an even tough very challenging, it was for a good reason. His quizzes were designed so that if you read, you would do well, if you didn´t, you wouldn´t. There was no middle ground. I really really like this class.
His class was a lot harder than my previous Spanish classes at UGA but definitely doable. I learned a lot from Nuno, and I'm glad I took him. He puts a lot of emphasis on learning Spanish slang words too which I thought was fun. Make sure you participate!
Absolutely phenomenal class. At first I was skeptical of this class due to the boring material that was to be presented. However, Dr. Castellanos made this class thoroughly entertaining and interesting at the same time. I really enjoyed the class lectures.
Nuno was an excellent teacher. He made things fun and light hearted and made it so easy to pay attention, which can be hard after mentally translating everything for an hour straight. He was challenging but accommodating at the same time.
Dr. Castellanos is extremely capable--a wonderful instructor. He is always available to answer questions and can answer all kinds. He uses a variety of means to teach, and overall does a great job!
Great professor and would retake if I could. It's a great class. He is a great, native speaker and is fair based on our understanding and comprehension of spanish as non-native speakers.
I believe the readings were very helpful in forcing me to improve my reading abilities. The instructor pushed me to always use my best analytical skill in class. Although the quizzes were not fun made me keep on top of my reading, which I am really happy for.
Very rude and unhelpful. I went to his office hours and it was very clear he had better places to be. After waiting for 45 minutes for him to talk to a friend, I only got 5 minutes of one on one time where he basically told me I had to figure it out on my own. Made C & learned nothing at all. Actually felt like it hindered my spanish abilities.
I learned a lot about the Spanish History because of the engagement of speaking that Nunio promotes and because of the reading level. A lot of it I found really challenging, but when I look back on it, I can see hoe much I learned. I likes writing the paper and the movies that we watched and the discussions that went along with it. Nunio is superb!
I definitely was able to practice my speaking a lot more than the previous Span3010 class I was in. I could tell Castellanos cares very much about his students and wants us to learn as much as possible. Overall he was a awesome professor.
Dr. Castellanos was a great lecturer, but I felt that sometimes he alternated between hating me and liking me He would nag me about using an English word but then someone else in class would do the same thing and he wouldn't care. He was a tough grader and expected a lot. Overall I really did enjoy his class even though he was a little frustrating.
Maybe it was just our class, but the conversation was never fully there, and I stil have a hard time speaking fluidly and getting my thoughts across. He is also rude with students and changes his mood constantly.
Nunio is by far the best Spanish professor I have ever had. I loved that he only used Spanish to teach this class. My speaking level has skyrocketed from where it was at the beginning of the semester.
This course was perfectly structured and it was challenging for me. I found this class very useful and the Professor made the class super interesting. I would take more courses from Castellanos without hesitation.
Grades you based on how much he thinks YOU are capable of. Hated this at first, but I have learned and improved a lot. Really nice professor but is very strict about participation and attendance. Quizzes have matching vocab and writing sections (150 words) as well as other sections that are more difficult (fill in blank, no help). Papers easyA
Niño's class was a lot of fun. We often watched movies to apply our vocabulary. The group projects weren't as scary and he seemed to be a fair grader. He's also really funny and engaging. I never had a day where I dreaded going to his class. I feel like my grasp of Spanish grammar has improved this semester.
Nuño terrified me at first. Up until his class, most of my profs had been lenient on Spanglish & helped us if we struggled to say something in Spanish, but Nuño forces you to figure it out on your own. He was challenging, but very helpful & I improved a lot. Grading is the usual Span, w/ online homework & orals & whatnot.
I've taken Nuño for 3010 & 3020. He comes off hard on syllabus day but softens up within the first week - the rest of the semester is a blast. There is absolutely no english in his class, but that regulation is what's made me better! His grading is more than fair (put in effort & you'll get an A). He doesn't believe in low grades. He's funny too.
Nuno is the best professor I have had in my education career!!!! He really cares about the success of his students and is always willing to help you. Very light hearted and has fun with his students (very funny). Go to class and just do your work and you will do awesome! Not a joke of a class at all, but you will succeed if you just put in the work
Definitely take him! It's the best decision you would ever make in college! Go to class, do your work, participate! Even if you don't know what is going on, he appreciates you saying stuff rather than sitting there! He is always kind and makes himself available to you. He also tells funny jokes!
Prof Castellanos makes it so entertaining that you don't even realize how much work you're doing and how much you've learned until after the fact. Overall, this has been a very useful class and I hope I can take one of Prof. Castellanos' classes again in the future.
Nuño prepares and plans every class and tries hard to make them fun and humorous for everyone. He is nice, for the most part. The oral exam and oral presentation require a lot of prep, so be warned. He is VERY picky about formatting and following directions. Follow his directions or he will take off big chunks of your grade.
Nuno's class is not easy - don't expect to do minimal work, never participate, and still get a good grade. I felt my grades were a good reflection of my effort. He will correct you when you say something wrong but this is what makes you a better speaker, don't take it personally. Loved his class, was constantly entertained & challenged.
He was a decent professor, but the class was unnecessarily hard. Tough grader that focused too much on stuff like Spanish history and not enough on the language itself. Taking his honors section was a mistake.
I am always a straight A Spanish student but SPAN 4050 with Nuño is the worst class I ever took at UGA. I dropped it before SB because I was trying so hard and getting nothing in return. Went to office hours twice and he seemed completely unconcerned. Mini quizzes every day each out of 5 points and worth 25% of your grade. Participation is vital.
This class is almost completely based (70%) on Participation/Attendance & quizzes at the beginning of every class. I was struggling very much even though I always do well (B's and above) in Spanish classes and my advisor told me they have always had issues with this professor in the past and many students had complained to her. Very hard to do well
This professor "doesn't let you go to bathroom during class" and it will heavily affect your participation grade if you do. Freaks out at the whole class when no one knows what going on and no one is participating. Unbelievably harsh grader and I was warned of him and I should have listened.
Prof. Castellanos was extremely prepared all the time, and the class was very structured. His excitement and energy was contagious. It seemed like he really cared about his students. Always speaking in Spanish was very helpful, although sometimes understanding spoken directions that were not written anywhere was tricky. I'll take him again.
I loved this class! I liked the amount of depth that we went into, and we discussed all of the important parts of Spain's recent history. I like relating history and literature, and I enjoyed how this class was set up. I think grading is pretty fair for that level. Nuno was always available to help students with any question. He loves to help you.
I really enjoyed this course. Nuno is very approachable and funny, but he also have a level of seriousness that make the class perform to a higher level. He did an excellent job with staying on track and with enforcing the talking of only Spanish in the class. Nuno is my favorite professor at UGA hands down!
Dr. Castellanos is one of my favorite Spanish professors I've had. He is hilarious and really knowledgeable, especially when it comes to Spain and its history. He does NOT allow English in the class, so make sure your Spanish is good, and he demands participation at all times. He was challenging, but I learned so very much. I hope to take him again
Nuno is OK. He talks a loooooot about Spain's history. In fact, out of 50 minutes, he talks 49. Little participation and practicing of the language.
Nuño is the best! His lectures are really interesting and he's pretty funny. You're expected to read some of the chapter and do small assignments before every class but as long as you participate you'll do well. Tests are easy.
Nuño is a great professor. He does really care about his students, but he can come across as unnecessarily tough or nitpicky at times. He just wants his students to truly understand and use the language. He pushes people to participate and offers correction to people no matter their skill level. He is also hilarious and makes lectures interesting.
This class was truly a challenge. The tests were difficult to receive an A. Nuno is an excellent teacher, he makes the class a challenge and interesting. If you go in expecting to get an easy A, this is not the class. If you go in expecting to improve your spanish skills, this is most definitely the class.
I have always loved Spanish, but Nuño made me reconsider my Spanish minor and made me dread speaking Spanish. His classroom is an extremely harsh environment where many students are afraid to speak but get penalized for not doing so. Hes extremely condescending when you have questions. Never had an issue in Spanish until this class. Very difficult
He is really good at explaining grammar, and encouraging us to practice and use them. Nuno is great helping us figure out how to communicate what we want to say. He is very funny and engaging, so the class is always enjoyable. Not an easy A but totally worth it.
He must have been an off semester with the negative reviews, but he's actually a really good professor. He makes his standards clear and once you know what to expect, it's fairly easy to get an A in his class. His honors classes challenge you, but also force you to actually try in class and learn spanish. He's also engaging and hilarious.
He is the most unfair and unreasonable Spanish teacher I have had at UGA. He has his own standard of what level you should be at and if you do not meet or exceed that standard you will not do well in the class. He is rude and judges everything you say and write harshly. He clearly plays favorites and if you are not one then you will not do well.
Nuno is a great professor who genuinely cares about his students and wants to see them preform well in the class. He is great about being avai1lable for questions and will work hard to help his students out in whatever way he can . I would take it again.
Nuno expects you to up hold your end of the work in the class but if you put in the effort you will get back equal or more effort from him. I like how he made every one of us participate every day because it was really helpfull with our speaking. I really like how on days when he. Overall he is an awesome teacher and his class is really effective.
Nunio was a great professor maybe one of my favorites! He really cares about his students and makes an effort to see if you understand the material. Class participation is really important, so be prepared to participate. I can say I learned a ton and my speaking skills have improved remarkably.
You'll learn a lot in this class and greatly improve your speaking skills but your grade will suffer. He's a nice guy thats good at teaching but he expects a lot from you. Don't expect an A in this class. He also expects a lot of in-class participation and attendance matters.
Nuño is an awesome person to talk to, if you get the chance. He cares a lot about Spanish history and culture and he really wants you to get more out of the class than just improving your spanish. The syllabus is extremely straightforward, assignments are easy, and he will accommodate problems if you just communicate with him. Easy, funny professor
Nuño isn't horrible, but he's not great either. The amount of homework we were given was quite a lot, and the reading was especially strenuous. He's a good enough lecturer, but you definitely need to study the material outside of class a good amount to do well.
Nuños is really, really funny. He also really wants his students to know more than the class teaches in terms of Spanish culture and history, so get ready for some actually really useful and interesting additional content now and then. Although he's tough, he really knows what he's doing. Do the work, participate, and you'll thrive in this class.
this is the worst Spanish professor I have ever had! Do not take this professor he is so rude and disrespectful to his students. Nuno is such a hard grader. He gives weekly quizzes from the reading and expects you to remember the insignificant details. Throughout the semester, he changes the weight of the essays without telling the class.
Nuno was an excellent professor and I feel as my communication and writing skills greatly improved after taking his course. He always was very intentional about correcting us when we made mistakes which was great because some instructors overlook them because they understand what the students are trying to say. I liked the course format a lot.
If you're looking for an easy A, Nuño is not your guy, but if you're looking to really improve your Spanish and laugh your ass off, he is incredible. He makes you work for it, but he is so funny and really wants to help his students. Don't stress too much about participation. As long as you're trying, you'll get a good participation grade.
I am a Spanish minor and have always loved taking Spanish classes in college and this man made me consider dropping my minor all together. Besides being a very tough grader, he made me anxious to go to class every day and seemed like he was rooting against his students' success. DO NOT TAKE HIM. You will regret it so much. He is not a nice person.
Nunio always came to class excited to teach and to engage with the students. His energy and good attitude were vital to the atmosphere of the classroom, especially one where the students needed to speak up and participate. Overall I thought he was an excellent teacher and I would strongly recommend taking his classes. Not a class for slackers.
Nuño is a genuinely engaging and fun professor. He makes a relatively boring subject matter super interesting, and I never once got bored in class. He's not a super tough grader, but you definitely have to pay attention and study to come out of it with a good grade.
This is definitely the hardest Spanish class I've taken at UGA. If you want an A, you HAVE to go to class and participate in every discussion as much as possible. He is a really tough grader, but he makes class interesting and has a lot of personality which makes the class more fun.
Although this class was difficult, Nuño made it enjoyable with his personality & the structure of the class. I was rarely confused what we were working on. He is a tough grader, but if you show up, participate and talk with him after class to improve your grade/spanish, he is understanding and more lenient. 7/10 would recommend, solid choice.
Nuño seems scary to some students at first, but I've had him two years in a row and he is one of my favorite professors at UGA. He is hilarious and you can tell he generally cares about how a student progresses throughout his class. He corrects the minor speaking problems that most teachers never do. I learned so much in this class and took 3020H.
I had Nuno and I did great in the class when I was able to attend. Hes very interactive with his class and is good at guiding students to string together more difficult phrases. I really enjoyed Spanish class with him. Eventually I had to stop visiting campus because I couldnt stop getting sick, but I wish I had been able to go.
Nuño grades harder than any other Spanish professor I've ever had... Everyone had homework grades in the 60-70 range constantly for the smallest errors. I've never gotten a grade lower than an A in a Spanish class until I had Nuño. Seems like a great guy, but I didn't learn much from the class and the class was unnecessarily difficult.
I took his class two semesters in a row, and I would take another one from him if I could. He's a bit of a stickler on things, but on the flip side doing things how he wants makes it easy to get on his good side. PARTICIPATE AND SPEAK IN CLASS! He hates speaking at a quiet class, and if nobody answers his questions, he won't be happy. Nice guy!
Never made below an A in a spanish class before this one. Part of the struggle was that it was a hybrid course, and everything was online. He never sent reminders about upcoming due dates and hardly mentioned them in class, so I ended up with a couple missing assignments resulting in my poor grade. He is good at teaching though.
Nuño was a great teacher!! He really helped me improve my Spanish. Def a tough grader but he pushes you to improve. He's scary at first but he'll like you if you PARTICIPATE IN CLASS(!) and show genuine interest in learning Spanish. One thing to know is that 3010H is almost 100% discussions so try and sit by people who are similar level to you***
Dr. Castellanos is a funny man who is very passionate about his language and its history. His class is very interesting and helpful. His homework is rather frequent and is not graded easily, though. He values participation VERY much- doesn't like being the only one speaking. Tough-ish class but great if you truly want to learn Spanish.
Nuno was good. He is a very, very tough grader but honestly, it's a 3000 class, he should be. He's super great with students, wants them to do well, and is great just to chat with. In class, the more the class opens up, the funnier he'll be. Normal UGA foreign language class, with practice on your own and practice in class.
Initially, I was very excited to be in his class but not too far into the semester, he started to treat me unkindly, had an attitude with a lot of the class, and seemed very bitter. He isn't "for" students learning the language. He's unnecessarily unpleasant + made me dread class. I have higher level Span classes that are better environments.
As this is a high-level class, I knew it would be a tough class but not this hard. After the first week I already started dreading classtime and even participating in class. Would make you feel bad for making a mistake and expected us to know words we had not even learned before. I do not recommend taking this class and am thankful this is my last.
I loved this class.
I really enjoyed the class. I found Nuno's teaching style very beneficial and I feel he really helped me improve my spoken Spanish. I appreciated how he wasn't afraid to correct my mistakes, because it helped me become a better Spanish-speaker. I hope to take another of his classes in the future.
I think class helped me a lot in my abilities to use grammar more effectively in writing and in speaking. I also like the way the class was planned, with a consistent schedule. Also, Nuno made the class interesting and was a very interactive and funny teacher.
I really liked how Nuno took time to explain things to u multiple times if we need it. He also gave us a ton of time to practice Spanish ourselves, so that was very helpful. Nuno corrected us without judging us or making us feel stupid. I would recommend his class to anyone trying to learn Spanish and having fun in the process.
Worst professor. All the good comments about him are lies. DON'T TAKE HIM. He made the class unnecessarily difficult and was rude. He always made us feel dumb when he corrected us. I dreaded going to his class. never ever take him.
He is very entertaining and makes going to class enjoyable even though attendance is mandatory. He knows what he is doing so if you are looking to gain proficiency in Spanish he is a great professor. The class is challenging at times but he truly does want to see his students succeed.
I dont know why Nuno has so many good reviews. He is the worst Spanish prof I have ever had. As someone who has always found Spanish so easy and has never made below an A, this class was so difficult, and I took AP Spanish and AP Spanish Lang in High School and have 7 years of Spanish under my belt. He made Spanish so miserable DONT TAKE.
I really enjoyed Nunio's class and learned a lot. I would definitely recommend it to others who are interested in being fluent in Spanish. Nunio is an excellent teacher, and I feel that I improved awell-prepared lot and thinking to go for the major. He push you to do better that's true but I liked it.
I just finished his class and I have to say, it was awesome! Nuno was really great at explaining everything and making sure we all understood. The class was really fun and engaging, and I feel like I learned a lot. I would definitely recommend this class. I don't understand all the complaints and hate.
He made me dread to class! Seems like a good guy, but I didn't learn much from the class and the class was unnecessarily difficult. I would definitely take the class with another professor.
Castellanos is an engaging teacher. He kept the class interesting and interactive by asking questions, and pushing for discussion. He gives helpful feedback everytime. He made the the class interesting by connecting it to current events and personal experiences. BTW the book is boring and out of date.
This man is HILARIOUS and very nice. That being said, this class is so hard. I've never struggled w Spanish until this class. The tests and quizzes are insanely difficult and tbh, I don't feel like my Spanish improved at all this semester. Classwork was boring but he is so so funny so he makes it bearable. I'd recommend him though!
Castellanos was an ok professor. The class is pretty speaking-heavy and he likes to nitpick on your pronunciation. The textbook is expensive (especially because he requires you to have a paper copy). He isn't the worst prof, but I wouldn't take it again, especially because the whole class felt like a review of my high school Spanish 3 & 4 classes.
Wasn't a fan of the prof or the class. Never really taught the material himself, just gave homework and made us work in groups in class. Very picky about your accent, not just overall ability to pronounce the words correctly. Very sarcastic and could be rude sometimes. If you have to take SPAN3010, I would suggest taking it with a different prof.
Lots of homework and group work, which makes sense for learning a language. However, he is very picky about participation and if you don't speak in class you're going to get a bad grade. He also grades kind of harshly but is patient in class. The group projects sucked and we were allowed no laptops in any class.
Nuno rocked as a teacher!! He made my Spanish way better. He's not hard to please but he wants you to get better. He seems mean at first but he'll be nice if you talk in class and show you care about Spanish. Just know that 3010 is mostly talking so sit with people who are at your level.
Nunio is an amazing professor who always challenges students. He doesn`t assign homework that is pointless. He tests us just on what we have learned, and he grades us fairly. He explains everything clearly, he is always ready to help, and he has a great sense of humor. You will have to work hard, but you will also learn a lot.
I think classes with Nuno is for those who really want to improve in Spanish. He's not a push over, and he expects his students to give their best effort in their work. He is kinda strict, but in a good way. He's not going to baby his students. I have no regrets taking his class
For 3030, the set up is consistent, helpful, and requires work. You read something for homework and study it, then come to class and take a little quiz on the reading. Then he lectures/we talk about the reading. He gives interesting and passionate lectures, is always ready to answer question, and is sarcastic/funny. However, the quizzes can be hard
You teach yourself mostly outside of class. HW due every class. Vocab memorized outside of class. You need a lot of free time to succeed. More difficult than needed to be. Never updates grades in eLC. Had to ask numerous times to tell final grade. I would recommend other professor unless very ahead in spanish speaking ability and pronunciation.
Nuno is a tough but fair professor who will push you to be your best. His homework assignments are always relevant and his tests are fair. He explains things really clearly and is always willing to help outside of class. He also has a great sense of humor. If you're willing to put in the work, you'll learn a lot-
The class is perfect for learning in real-world scenarios. We are constantly speaking both in conversation and through prompts, which help me get familiar with the material and more comfortable speaking. The classroom environment is also fun and engaging. The constant feedback during practice help me make sure I was learning the material.
My least favorite professor at UGA. Took a conversation class and turned it into a purely grammar class. Was big on attendance & participation but didn't make the classroom a comfortable place to participate, everyone was always scared to talk because he was so mean if you were wrong. Kept taking the clock off the wall so we couldn't know the time.
So really liked Nuno as as person he is super funny. But his class was pretty difficult. It almost felt like he didn't want to give people As in the class. The quizzes were online but really really hard. He had really good notes and slideshows!
My favorite professor at UGA so far. Took a conversation class and made it super fun. Made the classroom a very comfortable place to participate. Everyone was willing to talk because he was so encouraging and supportive, even if you made mistakes. I'm taking him again next semester.
If you're hoping for an easy A to boost your GPA, Nunio is not your man. But if you're down to actually learn Spanish and have a laugh in the process, this guy is the real deal. He'll push you to work hard, but he's also hilarious and cares about his students. As long as you're making an effort, you'll score well on the participation grade.
He was genuinely one of my least favorite professors ever. The actual class content was manageable. You would have to dedicate a lot of time to homework and studying for quizzes. Participation is important, but he's so mean if you get something wrong/ don't have flawless Spanish so it's not comfortable to participate in class. Don't take him.
Castellano is a demanding professor, but his rigorous grading was justified given the difficulty of the 3000-level course. He genuinely cared about his students' success and was always willing to engage in friendly conversations. As the class became more comfortable, Nunio's sense of humor transforms the class into an engaging learning environment.
One my favourites professors here. Castellanos was always crystal clear about what he wanted from us, and he made sure to take the time to break down assignments and answer any questions we had. This really helped us out and made sure we got the most out of every assignment.
Vas a odiar tu vida. Completely unreasonable scheduling and deadlines. Test, composition, reading quiz and homework all due in the same week? Not to mention this guy is just not a nice person. Please avoid.
Nuno is an awesome prof. His vibe in class keep us all hooked, and he brake down the material like a champ. Yeah, the course is a bit of a brain-bender, but it is legit fair for the level. And bonus points: dude hook us up with mad resources for acing those exams.
This class is very demanding but don't get me wrong, Nunio definitely make it hard, but not in a way that feels like he is trying to sabotage us. He push us because he wants us to learn and use the stuff we are talking about in real conversations. Every assignment force me to put my Spanish to the test, but they were always fair.
He is one of my favorite professors ever. The class content was manageable. You would have to spend time on homework and studying for quizzes. Participation is crucial, and he's incredibly supportive even if you get something wrong or don't have perfect Spanish, so it's very comfortable to participate in class. Definitely take his class.
One of my favorite professors. Funny person and a great teacher. He expects a reasonable amount from you and wants you to participate but his class is great for learning Spanish and he's very helpful and open to questions.
He is super funny/sarcastic which I loved. The class is demanding, participation is very important, homework every other day. The class is taught almost 100% in Spanish so you have to pay attention or you'll miss something. It can be intimidating to make comments or ask questions, but do it anyways bc he'll be satisfied if you show you're trying.
I totally see why he has such mixed reviews, but in all honesty I love him! He really helps you improve your Spanish. Not an easy grade, you have to work for it, but he is so willing to help and really cares for the students who are genuinely interested in learning Spanish. He is hilarious, and I feel like I have learned so much this semester.
I honestly liked him, but the class shows you if the minor is worth pursuing. I bombed the first test after so much studying, this class shows you if you have what it takes or not. If you are good at Spanish you will be fine, participation is everything and you have to speak at least 2-3 times a class but its not bad.
Nuño really cares about all of his students and wants everyone to succeed. With that being said his class is not easy. There is a lot of homework and the quizzes and exams are tough. Participation really matters so get ready to talk in class even if you don't usually like to. With all that being said I really enjoyed his class and he was amazing
This Spanish class was tougher than any I've taken before, but it was worth it. Nuno didn't make it hard just to mess with us—he wanted us to actually learn and use Spanish in real conversations. The assignments were fair but made me think, and he was super chill, always helping and encouraging questions. Honestly, I'd totally recommend him!
Castellanos is honestly awesome. He really gets students engaged and makes class fun. You can tell he's super passionate about what he teaches. The class was all in Spanish, which was tough at first but super helpful. It really pushed me to improve my writing skills. His grading's fair, but it takes some adjusting. Not an easy A!
Nuno is a demanding but engaging professor. His class is challenging, with a focus on participation and real-world Spanish practice. unstuck study was a lifesaver for prepping quizzes. Overall, a rewarding experience if you're willing to put in the work.
Nuno was funny and caring. His quizzes are difficult, but if you know your grammar you will do well. Graded leniently on speaking assignments because he knows we are not native speakers and just wants to see your effort. Taking him again for 3020!
Had him for SPAN 3010. Funny guy and genuinely wants students to learn Spanish. Stay on top of VHL and PARTICIPATE!! 1st quiz is in person but everything else online. Didn't grade too harsh on speaking assignments so as long as you show up and put in some effort, you'll do fine. Very grammar heavy!!
This is NOT a speaking class - it is a GRAMMAR class. He barely teaches in class and wastes a lot of time on useless assignments in class, and you end up teaching a lot of it yourself. Thankfully, most of the quizzes and exams ended up being online. Otherwise, I would have made a B.
Nuno is the best! So funny and wants you to succeed. Tests are all online and outside of class. He is very strict with attendance and using technology but if you participate and make an effort, you will do well.
I recommend Castellanos if you genuinely want to improve your Spanish. Participation is graded, and you have to speak in Spanish the whole time, but it really helped me. He assigns VHL for each class; I forgot a few times but it didn't tank my grade. 2 main group projects and oral exam with your partner, heavily weighted. Don't take for an easy A.
He's a really good teacher and made Spanish history interesting. He does give a lot of homework, but it is very doable, as he gives you an entire week to do it. Tests are online and open-book book and notes. Attendance is mandatory, but class goes by very fast.
Castellanos did a great job at talking with the students in Spanish and encouraging us to put the skills we had learned into practice. He also did a good job at explaining new grammatical structures and helping us learn them by giving us ways to practice.
This course pushed me harder than any Spanish class before. The professor made it challenging but fair, forcing us to actually use what we learned. Assignments tested my skills without being unfair. He encouraged questions, helped us improve. He was super supportive and made an effort to get to know his students. Highly recommend Nunio!
This course taught me a lot. I improved my writing, and reading skills, and the grammar lessons were super helpful. The class was challenging but totally worth it, Castellanos was amazing. Honestly, it's one of my favorite classes ever. Everything was well-organized, and I even got to learn more about history. Overall, awesome course an professor!
Nuño has been by far one of my FAVORITE professors at UGA! This is my second semester with him (took 3010 with him last semester) and he is just the best! Makes class interesting and loves to throw in jokes. He has truly pushed me to become a better Spanish speaker and I cannot thank him enough. TAKE HIM!
Nuño is hilarious. I loved taking his course, but only take it if you are truly interested in making your Spanish better. Quizzes are long and not enough time is given, but only the 1st one is in person. You do need to participate in his class as he takes it very seriously, I did feel a little shamed when I didn't know a word/spoke wrong though.
I was terrified to take him, and honestly he can be super rude. Interrupts you mid-sentence to correct you, which I find rude. He wants you to improve your Spanish but the way he does it can come off extremely off-putting. Tbh I feel like there's better options but his class isn't impossible
This class really helped me out. I leveled up my reading and writing, and the grammar tips were gold. It was tough, but I'd do it again—Castellanos crushed it. Straight-up one of the best classes I've taken. Stuff ran like clockwork, plus I picked up some cool history tidbits. Killer course, killer prof!
Best Spanish professor at UGA. He's a great, genuinely hilarious person. Though the class is participation-focused, which might be intimidating initially, he effectively builds your speaking confidence. My spoken Spanish significantly improved. Highly recommend taking his class! I'm taking him again!
