Didn't study much in class and i still passed. Go to class and do your work and it is an easy class.
She explains topics very well. Good attitude and sense of humour. She likes to quiz you on models so your not surprised when it comes to Lab Tests. She is very particular when it comes to a test so be prepared to study good. So far she has been great.
Smart lady, very nice and helpful. Loves to be teaching and it is enjoyable to be in her class. Come to class and listen to the lecture, read the chapter and do the labs and you should be golden on the test.
very good teacher. she sure loves her job! good sense of humor. I really enjoyed her. Just make sure to study for the tests, they were pretty hard. Its just a lot of memorizing. Make sure you go to every lab and do the work, you'll definatly pass the class!! I'm trying to get her for my micro class too. She is a really good teacher!
She's a Mico biology teacher but she's teaching Bio 5. to be honest, She can be hard to understand at times.she expects us to know things she hasn't covered. And it gets very annoying. A nice women, But I don't think I would recommend her to anyone.
Was a very EASY class but her grading is incomprehensible! I have turned in every lab assignment and gotten an A or B on her exams, yet I'm close to FAILING (D)?I have to agree, she is a nice teacher and she knows her topic, but isn't fair at all when it comes to grading.Favoritism is written all over her!
Mrs Denis Arrue has been by far the best Bio teacher Ive ever had!! Very smart but doent come off that she is a know it all. Her lectures were very interesting and funny. Tests were challenging but she adds a lot of extra credit!!
Mrs. D is the best! She keeps it fun with her sense of humor and really cares about your grasp on the material. Her tests are not easy so study, but they make you learn. I had so much fun in her class & sort of wish I had more bio classes to take so I could take them with her.
accent...talk alot about "side advertisements" these are useless...confusing!
I loved Mrs. D commercials. Usually they are related to the material that she is teaching. She makes the class soooooo interesting... !Loved her and learned a lot! I strongly recommed her if you are a serious student.
Mrs. D was great. She know's what she's talking about, and like someone else said, she doesn't act like a know-it-all like some teachers. I took this in summer and got a 95%. It's a lot of work, but if you do it, you'll be fine. Tests aren't that hard, but you do have to study to get an A. Fun class! Great enthusiastic teacher!
I took Mrs D's micro class and I really like her as a teacher....She is very by the book tho and doesnt let u go early EVER! Learned alot tho and shes nice, helpful, and wants you to succeed in the class. Also gives alot of extra credit to help if ur struggling on the tests!
micro is awesome! almost changed my major! teacher has an accent but everything she covers is useful 2 ur major! Everything she lectures on will be on the test. labs r so fun!
Mrs. D is a great teacher. Hard class but she is willing to help students. She does have an accent but I could understand her just fine. Absolutely recommend this teacher. She doesn't play favorites. She's strict with EVERYONE!
Fabulous teacher! Very well organized, fair, prepares her students for her exams. She is PASSIONATE about her subject!
I had feared this class from the time I started college! Everyone talked about how hard it was. Mrs. D made it fun and I really enjoyed her class. Lab tests are a little hard, but after the first one you'll get what she expects you to know. I got an A fairly easily, especially for a 5 unit class. I'd recommend her to my friends.
I don't know where to begin, Mrs. D, is a very passionate teacher, she is very likable and easy going, and most importantly very knowledgable in her subject. Her lecture exams aren't hard if you study, and her lab exams are straight up whats in the lab manual. Be warned, her MICRO class is very enjoyable but INTENSE. Be sure to take it seriously.
not recommend, do not take her because she very hard, want every essay questions to be in detail and give example. No study and does not explain to good on what she wants.
Nuria is great but does have a slight accent. She made everything she wanted very clear at the beginning of the semester so it was very easy 2 get a good grade. Her exams are decent;there were some type-os &grammar issues but for the most part doable. If u do take her class b sure 2 study xtra for the essay ?s, she likes detail, I even drew pictures.

Personally, I didn't think that her Microbio class was hard. If you have a good background in biology and chemistry, you'll find that it almost review with some interesting facts about bacteria. I took her class during the summer and I had a lot of fun. To succeed you must: read the book, understand terminologies and concepts and have fun.
She makes the easy class to be hard. No study guide, you have to guess what essays she will test. Grade strictly and you never see your test paper. Heavey accent and too much useless content in lecture. Do not suggest to take her class.
I LOVE Mrs. D! She is an amaizing teacher, a lot of fun! She's passionate about what she does. Has an accent but you can understand her. Study and you'll do fine!
She is a really nice person! If you come outside of class for anything she's more than willing to help you. She gets off topic a bit but she's good about not testing on what she didn't go over. She's really easy on her grading. The tests are ridiculously easy. Labs are fun. Over all awesome teacher.
She is a very nice person, and a good teacher. However, she is very unorganized, and you will never be clear on what you are supposed to be doing. Also, she goes at a very slow pace, so be ready to cram the last few weeks.
Great! She's awesome. She loves her chemistry so if you slipped through Chem3A without learning anything you're in for a rude awakening. This is MICRO! It's pretty much chemistry so get used to it. The tests are SO easy! Beware of the genetics exam! It's always the lowest test grade. Know WHY you're dong the things in lab, don't just do them.
Absolute WORST teacher I have ever had. She is incredibly disorganized and her "labs" are a joke.
BOOO! I loved the material, but was not fond of the teacher. Her grading was without a reasonable standard. one mistake for one person was no biggie, but the same mistake by another person would drop their grade. Lecture was unbearable and loooong. She loves getting sidetracked with stories that are semi-irrelavant.
She gets a little carried away in stories. No review guides which would be okay but over 4 chapters and essay questions? come on! Don't really understand how my grade went down when my exam grade was better with then the first exam. Too many tests. Lab exams, lecture exams, and lab quizzes. Nice lady. Hard for students who also have a job.
I don't get what the other students are complaining about. She is an excellent teacher. I laughed at the oine student that complained about an exam on 4 chapters. That isn't much at all. Mrs. D is very helpful and is willing to do what she can to help you - IF you make an effort as well. No hand holding here. It's real school.
Very Nice Teacher, but this class was very overwhelming. You really have to be dedicated and do the work and actually study and focus if you want to pass. If you take this class prepare yourself to take 7 exams and do a lot of homework.
I loved this class. Mrs.A is a very good teacher who is always willing to help. The labs are fun and make the time fly by. Pay attention, do all the reading and homework and you should do fine. she offers to help students that are struggling. Do the online homework it helps with the tests.
Microbiology is a subject the instructor is passionate about so she makes it interesting. Like any 5 unit science class it requires studying to do well. If you use the outlines she has and pay attention to what she emphasizes in lecture you will do well. Put in the time and you should get an A and learn a lot from the course.
This instructor is passionate about what she does. She's one of my favorite teacher at Fresno City College.
Mrs. A is very passionate about microbiology. Her exams were moderate. not too easy nor too hard. She added short essays as part of both lecture and lab exams. Final exam was comprehensive. Presentation and research case study was given as part of the project. It is a lot of work. Lab is fun and more of hands on activities.
I love Mrs. D! Very nice lady and is very helpful in teaching you the material. It is a 5 unit class so get ready to study!!!! I do NOT recommend taking this class in summer, you can pass but micro will be your life for 6 weeks. Labs are super fun, tests are hard but not if you study. Hw online and in labs. Also love her accent!
One of the best instructors I have had at Fresno City College. She almost converted me into a microbiologist, but I decided to continue with the same major because I already took so many prerequisites already. Labs was fun and lectures was interesting.
Took the summer session of micro, worked close to full time and got an A. She is passionate and that makes it more fun. If you test well you will do fine. If you have trouble with tests, you will have a hard time with this class. I mean what are you going to do in the real world google everything while your patient is bleeding out?
Bio 31 was a difficult course for me. The lectures felt very long and never made much sense to me until I read the book and pieced the material together. This class requires a lot of time studying out of class and as long as you complete everything to the best of your ability, you can pass the class. Research paper&presentation required to pass
Don't get me wrong, she is an amazing teacher& very compassionate. BUT, she's very unclear about test, &reading assignment. Yeah she do help if you ask her but she dont really announce it to the class unless alot people come up to her& ask the same question. She's very nice but sometimes, i feel extremely lost but if u like independent then gofor it
So far, u need to study to pass the test. No study guide. There were some questions on the test that wasn't cover in lecture, so u need to read ur textbook&take considered all the handout she post up when taken the test. She's very nice&give extra credit here& there. She do let you lose on lab considering it's only her. So don't worry& ask her
She's an amazing person but when it comes to teaching it can be really confusing. She teaches as if you already know what she's talking about. Studying for her exams is so stressful because she tells you to know everything and does not give study guides.
This class has a quiz once in a while on lab information (so far 2 this sms). She is very kind-hearted but other than that her class is not to be fool with. Do your work and study!!! Take my words. 2 lab exams. 4 lecture including final. She is unclear sometimes so ask her for any due assignments!!! she'll accept note for EC for some chs.
There are not enough good words I can give about Mrs. D. Hands down the BEST professor I have ever had. She is so patient, cares about her students, and really is there for you when you need her. Class was VERY tough, but show up, have a good attitude, participate and STUDY STUDY STUDY and you will be fine!! Im gonna miss her!!
Gives lecture notes, but exams include material outside of those notes. Study guide is "know everything." Lab is fun, but like others have said, no joke. Expects more from students than is in the actual textbook and lab manual, so listen to everything she says and try to keep up. She's got an open door office policy for questions. Tough grader.
Really confusing lectures. Tests do not match lectures. Tests are full of grammar and spelling errors, so most students barely understood what exams were asking for. Not helpful in lab either. Nice lady, but she acts like students don't care even when they do. Wish I took a different professor. Very few A's in this class. You've been warned!
Amazing Professor, almost changed to Microbiology but continued with Nursing. Highly recommended.
As a person she is very nice but she's not a very good teacher. I mean, she definitely knows her subject but cannot explain it to where it sticks or it's interesting. Studying for the tests is basically reading from the textbook & lab book. Her lectures are unnecessary. She was not lenient to anyone's personals issues from what I could tell.
She is nice but the class is very overwhelming. she is not lenient at all. She made my class come to school to take an exam on a day we didn't have the class so that she can continue to lecture on chapters that she wanted on the exam. she did not take out any material from the regular semester so DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS IN THE SUMMER. ridiculous....
Mrs. D is by far one of the best instructors I have had. I took this course over the summer and it was awesome. Having lab everyday really helps with remembering what is going on and what is being tested. It is a demanding class, especially if taken over the summer, but it is a science class. She was very thorough with her lectures and lab.
Her lecture tests are difficult in a sense that it covers a lot of chapters (usually 5 to 6 chapters). Lab tests are doable if you understand the concept. There are a lot of memorizations involve, so beware. There are three lect exams, 2 lab exams, and one final lect exam. Read the chapters and do the study guide in order to pass the test. GL!!
She honestly sucks. When lecturing shell get off topic and is completely boring. Time goes by so slow. She doesnt keep on track with her syllabus. You always have to ask her when the exam is. Her study guide doesnt help at all. Overall wouldnt take this class with her ever again.
To be honest it's a very interesting class, I think the profressor could have been a lot better. She is funny gives a lot of information with power points. But there are really no study guides given no expectation of what will be on tests. The lectures have essay, matching, and multiple choice. Unless u learn good on your own id pick someone else.
I wouldnt recommend this instructor, she basically teaches like its an online class. Not approachable at all, expects you to read the textbook. No point of going to lecture. Doesnt like helping students outside of class. Impossible to finish an exam without having to guess because she doesnt give enough time to even read each question.
Shes a good professor if you honestly try in the class and put the effort in. She isnt very bad its definitely not a breeze by class you have to pay attention and put in work. She is a little unclear with things and does take a while to put grades in it was very rushed at the end of the semester. Bio tutoring helped me a lot in the class.
Mrs. D is an amazing professor! She cares about her students' success and is willing to give help to those who ask for it. You have to pay attention in class if you want to do well on her exams because not everything is written in her notes. She provides opportunities for extra credit. Her exams are multiple choice, free response, and matching.
Lecture attendance isn't mandatory, but labs are. I passed with a B and I'm not a science/math person, so it is possible. She doesn't always have study guides on canvas but I just payed attention in lecture and if absent I got notes from a classmate and did just fine. Theres no papers in her class just lab worksheets and tests. Not too hard.
Such a great professor and I cant wait to take her for microbiology
The teacher is fair, willing to work with students, lectures can be motivational and makes students feel welcome. Improvements can be done too, like better study guides, less ambiguous questions on quizzes and tests, updating grades online. I recommended a different teacher unless you just need a C grade to pass.
Sweet and caring professor. Talks a lot but just wants to make sure that you are understanding the material. Very unorganized, falls behind a lot with grading but this is helpful because you can convince her to push back tests and she is gracious with late work. Little opportunities for extra credit from lab. Work hard and you'll succeed.
the only problem is her accent. Everything else is good. make sure to study for the tests. Offers rare extra credit and is willing to help you out.
She will speak until your ears fall off and you will have no idea what she is talking about unless you are extremely knowledgeable in microbiology in the first place. BUT she is sweet and has a great personality always looking out for students no matter how idiotic we can be in class and get micros all over the floor and everywhere haha. TOUGH
She is a good professor. Do all the assignments and study the material. She sometimes gives study guides use them, they are the same as the exams. The lectures like the exams. Take notes study them you are good.
She provides a moderate workload. She is very kind and understanding. Her lectures are very interesting and only required a ZOOM meeting once a week. She tries her best to make the material understandable for students. She loves participation and hearing that students understand what she is teaching. Great professor and easy class. Loved her!
I enjoyed Professor Nuria Denis-Arrue's class. She's so sweet, understanding of her students and wants them to succeed. I took her class during the pandemic so everything was online. Easy class to follow, plenty of reading, weekly learning concepts/hw assignments, and weekly zoom sessions, but it's a bio class after all so expect to learn a lot.
Overall, she is not a bad professor. The subject was quite tough. I took her class via zoom this semester and it was not too bad. It was mostly lectures, homework, and exams. Your grade mostly depends on how well you do on the lab and lecture exams. The homework does not make a huge difference in your grade. If you study, you will pass.
I took her class in 2020. She's a very nice and kind professor and really enjoys teaching the subject. There was an online book. It starts off just like any regular class but then it can get a bit tough with the subject. Online labs are easy and can be done multiple times. Decent amount of quizzes but based on book. Takes a while to respond emails.
Shes an awesome professor, caring, makes you work for your grade, she wants you to know and learn the material, bit of a tough grader. Just make sure you pay attention to lectures and labs, the she gives study guides, theyre very helpful.
I took this class as a hybrid class. For the online portion, she had recorded lectures and the homework assignments were on Pearson. For the labs, make sure to bring the lab manuals and take any notes during the lab onto it (will come in handy later). Exams were great, attend study sessions and pay attention to labs and homework assignments
Great instructor learned well in the class and understood all the material being taught. this class was a hybrid so the majority of the work was done online but would meet once a week for a lab. Expect to have very long connect assignments, test and quiz were very straight forward and based off all the labs and lectures.
doesn't structure her material in a way that is comprehensible for every kind of student especially first-gen students. Requires you to buy the textbook but it is rarely used and expensive. Is a heavy grader for exams but doesn't even use the materials she makes us study for, very confusing and earning a passing grade difficult. DO NOT RECCOMMEND.
I ended up with a good grade, but you'll DEFINITELY find yourself struggling to figure out what to study for exams. Labs were cool and I thought those exams were reasonable, but lecture was another story. She is VERY unorganized, and it's hard to do well when there's no structure/ no knowing what to expect. Choose her if you learn well on your own.
I can't say enough good things about this prof. I genuinely looked forward to our synchronous lectures, and she inserted bits of micro knowledge where ever she could. She was just SO enthusiastic about her subject matter, it was infectious.
Professor D. is so kind! She is however extremely unorganized and leaves you unsure of what to study for the test. Her class is enjoyable and I learned so much from her! If you are able to bear with her bad organization then I highly recommend taking her for Microbiology! She is so passionate about what she teaches and is very kind!
Although she is sweet she is not a good professor at all, it was hard to correlate her lectures to the labs. Never sure of what to study. Super unorganized, the worst part was how complicated her structures of the exams were and she had 2 portions of an exam; one in class then the next day (sometimes forgetting to mention) another part in Canvas.
I took her Bio5 class for summer and it was manageable. She is a little quirky and super lenient. Very sweet and genuine in her instructions. You can tell she really loves what she does. She is invested in our success but can be a bit rushed. Overall, I would take her again.
Overal, she was an amazing teacher. Her clear directions and gave multiple attempts to get the correct answers as well as offering help for every assignment.
This class has so much work! She can't keep up with grading the work she assigns. You won't know what your grades from the previous month's assignments are. She is a tough grader and she grades your lecture notes. All lecture exams are two parts with hand written essay questions. And you have to present a 10 min case study and write a 6 page paper
44 Lab, 20pg Pathology Report, Presentation, Mid-term paper, 18 (weekly) Chapters (handwritten notes, no less than 6 pages) including Pearson Hw, 3 Lecture Exams, 2 Lab Exams. 1.5-hour lectures videos p/week. All this in a semester. She's highly unorganized and hasn't graded anything for months. DOES NOT RESPOND to emails! Do not recommend it.
Make copies of everything. She is very disorganized and loses assignments, and she is an EXTREMELY poor communicator. She will NOT answer emails, so don't bother her. She assigns so much during the semester that it disengages from learning.
Although this class was hard, the professor was very understanding and caring as she opened study sessions and was readily available during office hours. However, yes the course is demanding, but so is any Microbiology class you encounter. It will require you to be very organized with your time. There are weekly chapters, quizzes, and many exams!
Overall, this professor's class was amazing. This is a 5 credit course so of course there will be plenty amount of work. There is opportunities for extra credit and her exams are easy as long as you follow the weekly study guides and course objectives.
Professor Arrue is passionate about her lectures, and I really enjoyed them. While the assignments were a bit semi a lot, I got used to it. Make sure to do your homework, as it makes a difference in your grade, and if you miss her labs, you'll also miss the pop-up quizzes, which she always gives full credit for participation.
Be prepared to take hours of extremely detailed notes every week. Not for your benefit but so that she can grade them super harshly! Not great about correcting grading mistakes or responding to canvas. Grading (especially tests) takes forever. I made a 96 in this class and I can tell you IT IS NOT WORTH IT. Take a different teacher.
Find another professor supper funny humor but horrible teaching nothing is clear be prepared to be doing 2-4 labs daily with pop quizzes and 20+ labs per lab exam be aware she post assignments on random days and does not notify, you'll be stuck on one thing when 3 other things are going on and papers are graded tougher than an actual English class
Super passionate about Microbiology, very funny and caring professor! Good lectures and great labs.
DO NOT RECOMMEND. She's super unorganized and doesn't grade things on time. Her lectures are useless and don't correlate to the exams at all. 10 billions labs per week, 6 pages essay, 10 minute case study presentation, lecture and lab exams, and a pathogen report. She assigns ways too many things but can't even keep up on grading them.
take this as a sign to avoid this class at all cost!!!!!!!!!
Prepare for heavy work, lots of studying, turn in your work in time that's all I can say! To get the most full credit and pass her class is get as must as get your assignment done. My Pearson mastering is worth 100 points take advantage don't procrastinate.
Would not recommend at all! Listen to the reviews, she is SUPER unorganized and takes forever to grade anything. The lab time is not enough for the amount of labs she wants done in a day. She also takes points from EVERYBODY if one person messes up in lab. She's funny and quirky but that's about it, choose another micro professor if you can.
This lady is difficult. So many random assignments, takes forever to grade, exams are really difficult and she does not respond to emails. Our class average for an exam was around 45 but she didn't care, if you fall behind, you fall behind. You're expected to know what to do in each lab with no prior knowledge regarding microbiology.
I loved taking this class with Mrs. D! It's easy to tell how passionate she is about the material she teaches. The class has multiple tests, all with essay questions that are expected to be answered in detail. However, she provided plenty of resources to help me study as well as opportunities for extra credit. I would definitely take her again!
Those rating Nuria negatively did not put in the work. What are they expecting, an easy class? LOL. Although difficult, this course was extremely interesting. As long as you study, participate, and ask questions, you'll be good.
Worst professor I've had thus far. Her lectures were useless, nothing she taught was on the exams. Everything was purely on Pearson/the textbook. She loves asking rhetorical questions. She will not grade anything till last minute, but will give you tons of work. She will not reply to your emails. Only thing you could take advantage of is EC.
Literally take any other professor, even if it sets you back in applying to your program of choice. Expects you to teach yourself the material, does not respond to emails, very confusing with directions, terrible lectures, makes you feel stupid for asking for clarification. Worst professor I have ever had.
Had this prof as a sub & she wasn't the best. Absolutely unorganized, forgetful, & never replies to emails! Super slow at grading assignments & even worse during lab experiments. Didn't have a good experience with her at all. I recommend taking a different professor if you can!!
Unorganized, forgetful, & doesn't respond to emails! Had her as a sub & didn't have a good experience. Super slow with grading assignments so you won't know your score until a month or two after. Asks rhetorical questions and is confusing at times (it's even worse in lab). Please take a different professor if you can! Avoid at all costs!!!
