If you have not taken spanish before or you are not very good at this class will be very hard because she goes very fast and expects you to teach yourself from the book

She's difficult to understand because of her accent, but she's a lot of fun.
The worst teacher here. She's funny, and tries really hard. She knows spanish well, but doesn't know how to simplify it for students. Only take if you have a good base on Spanish already
First class teacher. She makes learning fun and she makes sure that people who never had Spanish before understand. I am eager to come to her classes. Great professor who integrates grammar and culture in a very interesting and positive way. Thru her explanations of the Spanish grammar I learn mine.
She is nice and funny but not a very good teacher. She talks about irrelavent things during class which then puts you behind all other classes. She is hard to understand. I wouldn't take her if you have never had Spanish before.
The class itself is pretty easy but if you have no other spanish experience, she moves a little fast. She goes off on tangents that don't apply to class at all so it can get confusing when she is unclear about homework. Easy class if you have past experience from high school though.
at first, she was very difficult to understand, but now i'm used to it. i also wouldn't recommend taking her if you have not had spanish before since she does talk about things that are not relevent to class. exams are easy. she does expect you to learn from the book.
horrible...her husband paul can teach you more in 20 mins, then she could in two weeks
didn't like her teaching technique, got very frustrated with the class when you didn't understand the material.
I didn't understand anything she taught me! I had never taken Spanish before in my life and she definitely didn't help me learn any either!! She is fluent in the language but doesn't know how to teach it to someone who is trying to learn it.However..if you want a lot of classes cancelled.. take her
If you go to her right away and tell her you don't understand, she bends over backwards to help you. She is one of the friendliest teachers I've even had, and very easy to get along with. She does move a little fast for a beginner, but she will help far more than any teacher I've known! Great lady!
She is a funny and interesting person but that's as far as it goes. She wastes the whole time in class telling stories. She also doesn't understand the questions people ask her and she spends time explaining an answer to a question that was never asked. Very confusing!
She is the worst spanish teacher I've ever had. She doesn't teach you anything. I think I got stupider just be taking her class. Although if you want an easy spanish class take her.
I swear that I got stupider in this course when I took her class. She spends most of the time getting off topic, blames us for it, and then tries to squeeze the lesson in the 2 minutes that we are packing up. Also, her husband subs for her a lot. Never miss those classes-you learn more from him in 40 minutes then her in 3 weeks.
The best of the best. I'm very laucky to have Sra. Hoff as my prof. She dominates Span. grammar aand language that it makes things so easy to understand. To the previous comments, maybe this students shoundn't be studying at the U. Go back to Elem. School! There is not such thing as stupider, but more stupid. Be fair with your comments!
She is a super teacher. She knows the subject matter very well, but most important she is helpfull, sincere, (no surprises), compasionate and humble. She is funny and makes her classes go so fast. I had her for 101 and now for 102. Her stories don't leave the subject matter of a foreign culture, and her life experience comparing to the USA. SUPER!
The best professor I had so far. She loves to teach and it shows because she has fun doing so. She laughs even at herself, great sense of humor. I highly recommend her I've learned from her in one semester more than 5 years of HS Span. I hope she keeps touching many lifes as she has done to mine. I'll continue to study Spanish because of her.
Excellent professor. Helpful, interesting, funny. There is so much you will learn from her. Superb!!
If you've never taken spanish before, you should not take Nuria! She absolutely does not know how to teach basic spanish and she looks at you like you are an idiot if you don't understand what is going on. However, if you're fairly familiar with spanish, and you want an easy A, take her. It's simply just a waste of 4 days per week.
You will hate going to her class, although she does make you laugh, and it's very easy.
Not a bad professor. She will take all the time in the world to talk to you if you ask her for help. Very nice, too. Probably not good if you have never had spanish, though.
She sucks. Really can't stand her. For the most part all I learn about in there is about her relationship with her mother and what her cholestrol is. Pretty much amazing.
I am definitely going to miss all her stories. She was pretty funny. I would recommend taking the class if you've had spanish before or it could be a little confusing at first. The oral exams are pretty easy and the tests aren't bad as long as you study.
I love this prof! She relates really well to students and goes out of her way to help. I'm going to miss her!
Alright, I didn't really learn a whole lot about speaking Spanish from Nuria. But she is an AWESOME lady, makes me laugh all the time, actually smiling as I think about her. Tells good stories, relates to her students and is laid back. I recommend taking her
I enjoyed her class. Sit toward the front, and engage in conversation with her. She is very helpful, so don't be afraid to ask for it. She is slow on grading tests and compositions. She doesn't check if homework is done, but it still is valuable to complete. I had her for Spanish 101 & 102.
Nuria is such a nice lady. She is SOOOOO helpful if you make the effort to go to her office. She tells you what is going to be on the exam. Her lectures are really random and unorganized. I wouldn't take her if you actually want to learn spanish, take her if you want your foreign language credits. She is frustrating at times, but overall a nice lad
Nuria Hoff is terrible. She never teaches you Spanish, just always shows pictures and Youtube videos of Spanish culture. If you don't already know Spanish, you will not get an A. She misses class a lot and is never prepared. Stay away!
teach yourself spanish and get to know nuria.. thats what this class should be called. she'll be good if you want to watch youtube and google earth but horrendous if you are looking to learn spanish. thank god i have background in french otherwise i would have never survived having to teach myself EVERYTHING.
Nuria is a nice lady, but hard to learn Spanish from. Her lectures are very unorganized and random. Many days we learned more about her then about Spanish. However, if you talk to her one-on-one Nuria is very helpful. If you show her you are interested and trying, she will help you get an A.
Nuria is really an amazing professor she cares a lot about her students and wants you to succeed. Her tests are hard, but there is only two of them (and the week before) she tells you exactly what is on in, no quizzes, all homework online and you can do it til you get 100. I hadn't had spanish before and I am glad I took it with Nuria!!!
Ignore the negative ratings. If you've taken Spanish before, you'll do fine. I've never taken Spanish and I got an A. Nuria does go off on tangents sometimes but she's funny. Also, if you need help, just ask (shocker, I know). Her exams can be a bit challenging but there's plenty of other easy assignments to raise your grade.
i like her very much!
She is cool person who is like the professor who is also your friend. I was not a fan of the actual class. She is helpful if you go talk to her. It is hard to teach spanish to people who don't want to be there but have to.
Excellent, amazing, best professor ever and she is hilarious. I'd never had Spanish before and I am amazed of how much I've learned because of her. I highly recommend her. She is also a story teller of stories growing up in Spain, a plus in a native speaker.
Sra. Hoff is an excellent, caring and knowlegable professor and she is layback. She puts everybody at ease and has a great sense of humor and a very smart woman. Her exams are challenging but if you go to class, do your homework, take notes and participate you be fine. She is very helpful if you ask her.
Nuria is a great teacher. She is hilarious and loves to tell stories about Spain and her family. Participation will make the class much more enjoyable. Nuria is always willing to answer any questions in class or during her office hours. I would highly recommend her even if you haven't taken Spanish before.

I learned more from Snra. Hoff in one semester than I did in two years of high school spanish. She is super nice and loves to know about your experiences with spanish especially if you have been abroad. She is very educated and knows what she is talking about.
I feel like I know more about her daughter than I do about the language. She doesn't really teach, she just goes on random tangents about nothing of importance. Be prepared to teach yourself how to speak Spanish if she is your professor.
If you did not take any spanish classes in highschool then do not take her if you want to learn spanish. She rambles on more about her daughter and pointless stories then actually teach class. She is the worst prof I have ever had. It took her three weeks to return an exam. She is very unorganized and will waste most of the class period.
If you did not have Spanish ever TAKE HER. She will go to extremes to help you if you ask and she wants you to succeed in the class. However, there are too many students who don't do anything and slow the class down. Her stories and love for her culture is a plus and trust me you will learn as much as you want as far as you want.
She is a terrible professor. She is extremely unclear and her tests are hard to prepare for. I would suggest taking spanish with any other professor. I took a little bit of spanish in high school but if you have no previous experience she is terrible at teaching. You will self teach yourself everything yet attendance is still mandatory.
Nuria is a nice person, but is a bad professor. She would write things in spanish and never tell us what they meant unless we asked. Gave us homework without telling us. Class is very hard if you've never taken spanish. Exams are fill in the blank. If you can help it, don't take her.
Best professor and best class ever. Disregard negative commets. She is fun, very creative when explaining grammar. Do your homework daily and you will be fine. She will go the extra mile to help you. Caution, she is very clever.
Excellent professor!!! She is a master in what she does. Knowlegable, funny, lay back I wish I had taken 101 with her I would've been better off 2 thumps up!!!
No doubt, she is an excellent professor. Great commitment to her students, university, her culture and languge. If you don't enjoy her and have a similar commitment as she does drop the class you will do a favor to the rest of the students.
One word wow! Best profesor ever, funny, relax, wonderful and dedicated. Love her!!!
Super outgoing and really nice, always telling jokes but not the best teacher. She moves through things really quick so if you have no prior Spanish experience i recommend a different teacher. If you've taken Spanish before then she's a really fun teacher to have. Just not if you actually need to learn Spanish from the start.
This is the third week of school and I'm already confused. I don't understand all these comments saying she's a great professor? We don't learn any Spanish... It's true that she's fun and relaxed, but a good professor? No. Take a different teacher if you actually want to learn the language.
She is a really easy professor and because I have already taken spanish in high school, this class was even easier. She is constantly off topic and you do not learn much in the class.
Not a very good professor. I think she believes as long as students get a good grade they wont care about if they actually learn anything. It's an easy class, but I didn't learn much. I will say she was very helpful when I went in for office hours, and that she does care about students. However, she only has 2 office hours a week, pretty bad.
Very nice and funny women but TERRIBLE teacher. She talks about her life and Spain and says that it's learning about the culture but really it's useless information. If you want to actually learn spanish find a different professor!!!
One the worst professors I've had. Very easy class (if you've taken Spanish previously), but she is very bad at explaining and gets mad at you if you answer wrong.
Those students are pathetic. Sra. Hoff is an excellent professor, specially with those who never had Spanish. She is really upbeat, funny and caring. She has been an inspiration to me and others. BTW, I had never seen her mad with anyone . She should get a price for patience.
Professor Hoff really knows the language since she is from Spain. You really learn quite a bit of material but at a good pace so it is not too bad. At times she may not understand what you are asking her but overall, she is a great teacher and I would recommend taking her!
EXCELLENT professor. Funny, caring, compassionate, and most important very knowledgeable. If you study, do the homework and see her if you need help you will do very well. II am looking forward lo take 102 with Prof. Hoff ( nicest person ever)
Awesome professor! I have learned so much in this class. I find her a fascinating and passionate professor. You can see she likes teaching her language and culture. A class worthwhile taking.
Great teacher. Very nice woman, and is very helpful.
Nuria is a caring professor. She gets off topic quite a bit but what you do learn you will have a good understanding of. Make sure you participate because that's the best way to really learn a language.
If I knew what an excellent professor she is I would've taken Spanish earlier. Loved the class and finally I understand grammar. She and her husband are an amazing team. BRAVO!!!
Awful teacher. If you've taken Spanish before the class will be fairly easy, but otherwise it will be difficult because she can't teach! She is very unclear and she is hard to understand at times, yet she seems to get mad at the class when we don't understand something. If you take this class you will have to teach yourself how to speak Spanish...
Amazing professor. She is extremely helpful and cares about your learning. However, beware. If you are a student who sits in the back and doesn't care to learn or try, she will give you attitude (which is most likely the case for the students who are bashing her). Best professor I've ever had!
EXCELLENT! Finally, a professor who knows how to explain Spanish. Now, everything makes sense. She really enjoys teaching and cares for her students. She is very funny too. I waited a year to take Spanish with her and have no regrets.
Great professor!
Nuria is a really nice person, but can be confusing when teaching. She gets off topic a lot and spends nearly the entire class off topic. If you have taken Spanish before you should be fine in her class, but if you are new to Spanish you might want to look for another professor. Can get frustrated if the class doesn't get something.
Before taking this class, I was debating minoring in Spanish... after taking this class I absolutely do NOT want to continue taking Spanish. Nuria was terrible at explaining things and would often contradict herself. If you tell her you don't understand something she would get mad at you and then make things worse. I did learn some but not much.
Nuria is an excellent, funny, and mostly a caring professor who will go the extra mile for you if you ask. I had her for 101102. Contrary to those 2 previous comments Nuria makes Spanish very easy to understand. However, she wants you to come prepared, a pity some students don't. Easy to blame the professor for your failures. My favorite professor
At first she seems super confusing but her exams are easy if you take the time to study which is a significant portion of your grade. Also you can control most of the other portion of your grade on her online homework which you are able to take as many times as you would like to get an A. She often gets off topic but is entertaining!!
Nuria is an awesome professor! At times, she mumbles and it can be hard to understand but you get used to it. She loves to goof around and get to know her students. And she is a very easy grader as well! LOVE HER.
Excellent, hardworking, patient and funny. Great for grammar and culture. Expects students to be prepared and ready to go.
Excellent professor, expect students to be ready and participate in class.
Incredibly knowledgeable! This professor never stops surprising me with her knowledge, something that I really appreciate, she teaches with passion. Best profesor ever!
Gets off topic very easily. Would spend the first 20 minutes of class talking about things unrelated to Spanish every day. The class would get very frustrated because she could never stay on topic and we would only learn Spanish for roughly 15 - 20 minutes of the class period. Some days we would not even open our books or go over anything.
Two thumps up! Very helpful great teacher and better person. Very funny too.
Overall, Professor Hoff's professionalism seemed all but nonexistent. She routinely goes off topic, and when you do not understand material that she did not teach in the first place, she becomes angry. Also, beware of surprise deadlines and online homework that piles up if you lose track of them. Lastly, be prepared to learn all bout her kids.
Hoff's class is very easy to follow, although she makes it more difficult than needed. She uses a rude tone when speaking to you, and always calls out students to participate in class. Exams are easy and the one oral presentation that you give is only in front of her, not the class.
She has no clear outline for anything, classes, exams, or exam/due dates. Sometimes in class would leave the topic and spend 50 minutes talking about random things. The online homework was almost always unlimited takes and the test's were relatively easy. You do need to go to class just about everyday just per policy.
Although this isn't the class I've done the worst in, It certainly is the worst class I've taken since on this campus. Professor Hoff IS a good person, but IS NOT a good professor,She get's off topic, often talks about something that is not even class or Spanish related. If you've never taken Spanish, you will not do good. Take another professor
Nuria is a very caring professor and wants you to do well, but expects you to be on top of your work, come to class prepared, ask questions when you're confused, and to PARTICIPATE. Participation and attendance is a fairly large part of your overall grade. Nuria gets off topic quite a bit, but she always manages to get back to business.
Quite the sassy little lady, but a pretty good professor. If you haven't taken spanish before, her class will be difficult but manageable if you put the effort in. She made the class fun and enjoyable, even at 8am four times a week. Sometimes needs help with technology. She likes to get off topic. We got to hear all about her moped. Easy homework.
Nuria goes incredibly off topic most of the time. She almost never teaches actual Spanish, which makes it incredibly hard to get good grades on her tests that she grades harshly. She also doesn't admit she's wrong, so if you get something marked off on a test that is right, you won't get the point back. If you take her, be ready to teach yourself.
I had taken 3 yrs of Spanish prior, placed in probably too low of a level(102) so this class was pretty easy. Lots of online homework! Deadlines often unclear and she gets off topic all the time! You get graded on participation so speak up on exercises! Shes really nice & will help you. Not as bad as some have said but not super great either.
Horrible professor! She is a great person but she has no clue how to teach material. If you have never taken Spanish, do not take her. There is a test like every other week. The homework is easy because you can just quizlet it and the tests aren't too difficult. Sitting through class though is the most boring thing ever. Avoid her as a prof.
Must go to class often to get a good grade because cares about attendance. She makes students feel bad about not answering correctly which is very often! Its spanish! Her lectures are pointless because the homework teaches you but she takes attendance every day. Really disrespectful towards students and doesnt know what shes doing. Dont take
A friend and I kept an 'off topic' log which consisted of how much class time she spent not teaching us Spanish and what she was talking about, out of a 50 minute lecture we once spent 45 minutes talking about ham that she liked.
She is an excellent professor and extraordinary person. Responds really quick to emails and questions outside the classroom. She doesnt mind to spend time helping you outside class. I appreciate her encouragement and help. She makes you think, and think with logic. Ive learned more from her than any other professor.
She goes off on tangents all the time and doesn't hardly teach spanish. Majority of what is learned is from the online homework, then the next day you do the homework with a partner in class (pointless). She calls you out in class and makes rude comments.
Hard to understand, lecture time is spent talking about politics and random things about her family that have nothing to do with class. Entire class was self-taught through the online program we had to buy. Short temper when people don't understand the content even though she doesn't teach it. If you haven't taken Spanish before, don't take this.
Great professor! She explains grammar very well. Gives studyguides before exams and demands participation. She is very accesible and doesnt mind to go over the material outside the classroom.
Excellent professor. I enjoyed her class very much. She is funny too.. Culture is very interesting and I got a couple of ideas for a future paper for my major.
I enjoyed Professor Hoff very much. Grammar and culture is her strength. She is hilarious which helps a lot , I felt very comfortable asking questions,. She gives a summarized grammar package, very helpful as we moved along thru the different Charters.
I've taken Spanish before and I need that knowledge. She goes off so topic so much, and being the 8 am class, she always forgets to tell us things, then brings it up another day and gets mad when we don't know it. She can be very petty and aggressive to people who ask questions that she doesn't like. Do not take, ESPECIALLY at 8 am.
Nuria can get off-topic easily and ramble on for entire classes. Beware of 8 am classes and her sarcasm at times. She uses the book almost every lecture and for online homework. Exams are straightforward if you know what you're doing. 2 compositions and one small group oral exam. Homework 3x/week usually and can be drawn out and repetitive.
This class could be taught in 2 days vs 4 if she did not ramble on about unrelated things all of the time. We spent 3 days on the syllabus and we didnt even finish it. She doesnt provide a class outline/schedule, so you dont know when exams are. She is extremely rude to students. If you ask a question she will get frustrated and lecture you.
If I could give her a 0/5 I would. Hoff is absolutely the worst Spanish professor in the department but possibly the worst professor I've ever had. She rambles and get's off topic to the point we don't end up talking about Spanish at all. You have to teach yourself the material she fails to teach and has rude comments to say if you ask for help.
Class was generally productive but only when she actually wanted to teach. Like past classes, she would talk off-topic for entire class periods which meant we basically had to teach ourselves the content. You could get by without even going to class (in-person/online) as long as you do the homework. I suppose I'd recommend her but still be careful.
Spanish 101 with Nuria Hoff was very easy. Granted, I have taken some spanish before. There is a TON of online homework assignments almost every night but you can easily find a quizlet for them. Nuria gets easily distracted and goes off topic often. She literally spent three days on the syllabus... And to be frank, she's quite rude.
Hoff has a tendency to go off on tangents about her day and expect you to get your Spanish lesson from it. Deadlines are often unclear as well as WHERE to turn things in since multiple communication platforms are used. If you don't understand something and ask for some help she will get snappy.
The worst professor I've ever had. Horrible. Goes on tangents, very rude when asking for help, never gets back to you when you email her. You have to teach Spanish yourself.
Don't recommend. She calls randomly on people in class and expects the right answer, or she'll yell at you in front of the whole class about why you're wrong. There's homework 4 times a week and almost weekly tests. If you haven't taken Spanish before, you'll be terrified. She expects perfect attendance, but class is kind of pointless.
Very hard to get ahold of outside of class. Lots of repetition. Lots, and I mean lots, of homework that tends to get tedious. Homework content reflects test content very poorly. She tends to go on tangents a lot and you wind up practically teaching the content to yourself.
Hoff is the worst professor I've ever had. Very rude to students and berates you when you don't know the answer. The amount of homework in this class is absurd. Her class isnt necessary hard but I do not recommend.
I would not take this class unless you want to get embarrassed in front of your whole class and I also wouldn't take it unless you know Spanish already because she expects you to know it even though it's a 101.
I took SPAN101 when I was a freshman. I am now graduated, but the experience of being in her class sticks with me to this day, and not for good reason. She would talk about miscellaneous things during class periods as she generally went off topic A LOT. Honestly, I felt like l was just there to listen to her talk about herself. I do not recommend.
