Odded is the man! He's really sweet and has a dry sense of humor. At the end of the class, I actually felt like I retained the information--he makes it useful and interesting. You MUST go to class. Exams are based entirely on lecture. I HATED stats before this, but I ended up really loving the material.
Dr. Meyer is an incredible professor. The lectures are clear and well paced, the practice exams tell you just what to expect on the midterms, and the labs are helpful but incredibly low key. He's the best math/stats professor I've encountered at GU, without contest. Take him for Stats, premeds!
So straightforward! Excellent clear lecture notes that he walks you through, practice exams so you know exactly what to expect on the tests, lets you have a full page cheat sheet for every test - plus he's so sweet and funny... TAKE HIM
great way to learn the material very straightforward. helpful to student very fair grader. organized (lectures can at times be boring but are very clear)
Oded is a boss. Take his class. Everything is really straightforward, the tests are so manageable, and the grading is extremely fair. Plus, Oded is a subtlety hilarious and totally awesome person. His class is the way to go; I don't even like math that much, but loved the class.
Professor Meyer took what I thought would be a required, dreadful math class and made it interesting and clear. Now I'm taking him again next year. He's a great teacher and hilarious too.
Dr. Meyer is an incredible professor. Lectures are clear and well structured, labs are quick and helpful, and homework is long enough for you to learn something but quick enough that you don't dread it. I'm not a math or stats person, and I actually enjoyed his class. Great examples. Premeds, take him for Intro Stats!!
Oded is AWESOME. I don't like math, and he made Statistics actually tolerable! His handouts make everything crystal clear, and if you follow them, you're pretty much golden for tests. Labs are fairly straightforward, he lets you have notes for each test, and he's funny, too. I would absolutely recommend him to anyone for Statistics, he's great!
An amazing professor! How professors should be at top universities. His lectures were straightforward and easy. I'll miss having him next semester.
I was displeased with this class. Odded teaches exclusively by example, and while this makes it easier for those uninterested in STEM, it aggravated me. He forces students to hold his hand through the material by means of his handouts and weekly homework. Overall, I know nothing more than the three or four equations he taught. Not happy with him.
A bit sassy and occasionally rude, but so clear and methodical in teaching that I haven't had to think less since the sixth grade. Labs and homework are effective in reinforcing material. However, second midterm was a bit disproportionately and unexpectedly difficult; watch out.
This class was pretty entertaining for a math class. Professor Meyer has a great sense of humor and covers the material very logically. Would definitely recommend him!
Professor Oded is indeed very good. He has a unique way of approaching teaching that, at least for me, was very effective. Tests reflect exactly what has been covered in class with no trick questions. Weekly homeworks and lab attendance, which are easy to get high grades on, count as 25% of your grade, and thus serve to boost it considerably!
Excellent professor. Guides lectures with straightforward handouts and interesting examples. Funny and approachable. You will gain a solid foundation in basic statistics. Absolutely no need to buy the textbook.
Prof Meyer is incredibly straightforward and clear. Interesting lectures taught through handouts. No need to buy the textbook. Weekly homeworks, 2 midterms, and a final. Very doable. I never stressed about this class and it is very interesting! TAKE HIM if possible!
I loved this class! He explained all of the concepts really well and gave plenty of examples that were applicable to college students. Occasionally the lectures were boring but mostly because he had to get through a boring section of basics. WARNING THOUGH: Ive heard his tests and grading standards have gotten harder as the semesters have gone by
GREAT professor. He's a very clear lecturer and there were no surprises on exams. NO NEED TO BUY TEXTBOOK I didn't use it once.
Definitely a straightforward class, as others have mentioned it is an interesting lecture style but it does work well and rewards paying attention/being present. Tests were very fair. My only qualm is that HW grading could occasionally be questionable. Overall a very good course.
His lecture is clear and the handouts have examples of everything, but is very strict on rules to an unreasonable extent. I had a death in the family and had to return home and miss Thursday when homework is due and was told I had to take a zero to keep the class "fair". Exams aren't bad, don't rely too much on notes or you will run out of time!
If you have to take stats, please take it with Oded Meyer. Even if math/stats is not your forte, Meyer will make it crystal-clear for you. The course covers a lot of material but you won't have to stress over the exams - just go to labs and do the HW to reinforce the material.
Oded is amazing. I didn't do that well in the course but he was an amazing professor who always seemed prepared and would give as many examples needed until all of his students understood something. This class is definitely going to require work but it was fun. The class dragged at times but it was definitely informative and interesting.
I had to take Stats with Oded, and it didn't end up being too bad. I like his format of making you print out lecture outlines then fill them in during class - makes you pay attention. Homework was a pain, and graded pretty strict, but exams were straightforward. It's a fine intro class to take, and Oded is a really good guy who is smart and funny.
Oded managed to keep me interested and attentive in his huge lecture class, which is not an easy feat. His requirements are clear and the class is an easy A if you show up to lectures and labs, do your homework, and study for the exams. Really funny guy and tries to make prob/stats apply to our everyday lives, which is cool.
Oded gives you handouts for in-class note-taking which you literally fill out with him during class as he lectures, very easy to follow & makes it easy for exam review. I struggled b/c I am terrible at math, not b/c Oded was a bad teacher. Go to labs for easy points & do hw well if you want to do well on tests. Very clear & straight forward guy.
Excellent professor!! Very clear, structured, and straight forward class. Gives you all the materials you need to succeed- a notes sheet that you fill out as he goes through the lecture. He fills out the sheet real-time with you, so you aren't rushing to keep up with what he says. Loved his teaching style!
Great professor with a very easy class if you attend the lectures.
P Meyer is amazing with his notes. He makes guides that you print before class everyday. Unfortunately, this makes him go super speedily through lecture and sometimes it can be confusing from where he gets certain numbers. Tests are HARD. Homework takes at least 2 hours each week. Labs are easy- al you have to do is show up.
Awesome, awesome professor--literally the best math teacher that I have ever had. His teaching style is SO straightforward (you print out notes sheets that you fill in with him during lecture, so you never miss anything), and you learn a LOT. I found the exams and hws to be really easy, with no tricks (>98% on each without much effort at all)
Oded is a great professor. His lectures are clear and easy to follow. I struggled in this class because I am not good at math but Oded made it easier for me. Pay attention in class, do the homework, and go to labs! take advantage of his office hours!!
Oded? More like BRO-ded. Does a good job of making statistics at least bearable for those who aren't quantitatively minded. Just go to class and do the work and you'll be okay. Final grade received: B+.
Oded lectures very dryly, but his lectures are effective for those with no prior experience in statistics. He gives very basic problems in class and helps people work through problems. His tests are very well modeled off lectures. Homework is helpful but lab sections are useless.
Take this class if you aren't very good at math. It's not that Meyer is easy, but his lectures are extremely organized and if you stay on top of it you can do well and even excel. I've never been a quantitative thinker and I was able to do well and understand the concepts Meyer taught. He's also dryly funny and you can tell he cares.
A difficult course in general. But his pre-made notes that he hands out makes it very easy to follow along. Very happy to help if you go to office hours.
Professor Meyer is awesome. He has a unique style of teaching with pre-made handouts that, in my opinion, is extremely effective. Exams are indisputably fair, as is the grading. Homeworks are long, but are quite rewarding. They help solidify the class material and serve as great preparation for the exams. Definitely recommend.
Oded is one of the best professors I've had at GU, and that's saying something, given that he teaches an intro statistics class. His pre-made lecture notes are fantastic, and I've never worried about understanding the material because he explains each concept concisely yet thoroughly. Oded makes the lectures enjoyable with his dry sense of humor.
He obviously knows what he's talking about and enjoys teaching. Sit near the front because between his accent and his quiet talking he can be hard to understand. Can do okay if you don't go to class but do the homework, easy A if you try. Oded is the coolest!
Oded's a dude. His lectures are pretty boring but he structures his class really well and makes his tests super easy to study for. You can't really mess up if you go through his lecture notes, hard not to get an A-. Also didn't buy the textbook and got an A just from going to lectures.
while his class doesn't encourage participation, or excitement, he is INCREDIBLY and ALWAYS well prepared, and i think he is one of the most fair teachers i have ever had. He doesn't expect you to memorize equations or formulas, and let's your bring a cheat sheet. his tests are challenging but doable
Lectures are straight-forward and attendance is not mandatory. If you are not good at math, it may be a challenging course, but the TAs are there to help. The tests are challenging if you don't study enough for it. All in all, you have to practice a lot of problems to do well in the class.
As a student who has never found math easy, I greatly appreciated the structure and detail with which Professor Meyer taught his course. Lectures are easy to follow along due to handouts available prior to class. Homework and lab are consistent and doable. Two midterms and a final. If you pay attention and engage with hwlab you'll be fine.
Professor Meyer is very clear and his lectures/handouts are super organized! I found the weekly homework pretty difficult- be sure to find people to collaborate with (he allows it)! Although he gives you a study guide, the tests are still difficult (however, he does allow a 1 sided pg of notes to bring into the test). Key to this classPRACTICE!!
I'm not a math person so Oded was the perfect professor. Organized to a T, directions are always extremely clear. HW due once a week, 2 midterms and a final, practically optional labs. He is known for being incredibly fair and he lived up to that expectation. He is also secretly hilarious. Also, office hours are super helpful!
Pretty much a run of the mill large lecture class. Meyer is super clear, but the lectures do drag a bit. If you're good at math, this class might be taught a bit below your level, since it's mostly taken by students who didn't take any AP Math and need to fulfill the core requirement.
Oded is crystal clear when it comes to his lectures; however, if you do not do the lab-assignments, homework on your own, or actually understand what is going on, you will not do well on his tests. He puts practice tests on BB before the tests, which are almost identical to the tests, but I can say that this class made me work.
Class is pretty easy. To do well, all you have to do is attend all the classes and due the homework which is based completely upon the problems done in class. overall this class is Money.
Oded is the bomb dot com. He is hilarious, approachable, engaging, and extremely organized and clear. He makes stats fun and doable. MATH 040 was by far my favorite class this semester (and I am an I-Health/linguistics major/minor, soooooo). Take this class even if you don't have to. His organization will please all of your OCD tendencies, I swear.
I thought I'd hate statistics. But this class ended up being BY FAR my favorite class, and I have Oded Meyer to thank. He perfectly blends humor and precision in his lectures, making class both highly informative and enjoyable. He has a gift for teaching and is respected by all of his students. Put in half the work as he does and you'll get an A.
Professor Oded provides all the material that you need to pass this class with high marks! His test were all fair and reflected the material taught during lectures. Statistics was one of my favorite classes this semester because of his organization and clear expectations
Oded is awesome. He's funny, and his lectures are clear and to the point. He provides plenty of examples and practice through lectures, labs, and homework - do it all, have a good understanding of it, and you will do well in class. Notes are organized (and color-coded!) to make for easy studying. Tests can be tough, but you'll be prepared for them.
Intimidated. Love the accent! Trigger warning!!!! Does not like greetings of any kind. Answers his own questions. Not the worst class in the world. Take him.
If you like math, don't take this class. It was so basic that it was actually difficult to study for and I was never sure what we'd learned until it showed up on the exams. Probably would have enjoyed the class more if he'd gone more in-depth, but seems like a good teacher for someone who just needs to fulfill a requirement.
This course is very organized. If you do all the work you are supposed to do, you will receive an A. When you go to labs, complete them. Do the homework by reviewing your notes! Get someone's notes who took it before! The course will be very simple if you study and do everything he suggests! Get a cheatsheet for exams too!
Oded is the bomb. So clear what he wants. If you show up and do the homework it's an easy A. He also gives lectures notes that you fill in so you can skip lecture as long as you know someone in the class. Take him- simple straight forward classs, even if it isn't the most exciting
Very clear in his expectations and super straightforward. Tough to get an A because your average has to be over 95 but doable to get an A-! Would definitely recommend
Prof. Meyer really cares about his students. For example, he allows the use of a sheet of notes on exams so that students don't feel anxious. I often found his lectures boring, but that's not Prof. Meyer, but rather the material. He is extremely organized, provides color-coded notes for every lecture, and models exams after homework and lecture.
Prof. Meyer is an ideal stats professor. He does everything in his power to make sure that anyone can succeed in his class. Although I found lectures boring, I think it was just because of how easy and intuitive the information is. Don't hesitate to take Probability and Statistics, it's such a simple and useful class!
WOW! Never thought I would hate statistics this much. Weekly homework assignments are ridiculously long. Lectures are boring. If you don't sit in the first 5 rows, you can't hear a word he says. He is full of himself and considers he is the best professor at Georgetown (which could not be more inaccurate) BEWARE: an A is 95%.
Do the bare minimum show up and pay attention to lecture, do the homework, do the labs and you'll do fine. Oded is very straightforward about expectations, and rewards those who listen to him. Caring guy, good sense of humor, does a good job of making a dry discipline as engaging and interesting as he can. Highly recommend for stats.
He gives you all the tools you need to get an A in his class (even though A 95%). It's stats, so lectures can be boring at times, but Oded is the best professor. He's clear, incredibly organized, and all the exam questions are just like the homework and in-class examples. If you work half as hard as he does, you'll be set.
Incredibly well structured and clear. He prepares handouts for every lecture and provides practice tests that mirror actual exams. He tries really hard, and if you put in even 10% of the effort he does, you will do well. Do the labs and the homework, they are great preparation for the exams.
2 of those things, amazing lectures and accessible outside class, are the opposite of what he actually is. If you send him and email, he does not reply. Lectures are so boring. He tries to have a good sense of humor in class but fails miserably. He's a grumpy dude. However, his class is really easy - just do the work and you'll get at least a 90
Oded is a great teacher. I expected Stats to be a very boring lecture class. It was not, and now I am interested in maths because of him. How you do in this class does not depend on the teacher; it's simply based on how well you know the material. Everything is straight forward, and you get a cheat sheet for each test, so no sweat.
Oded is such a gem! I had never taken statistics before this class, but he made it so accessible and understandable for everyone. If you do the homework and labs and understand the lectures, the exams will be a breeze. Even though an A is a 95, it is easily achievable if you stay caught up on the weekly homework sets. Oded rocks!
Oded's Stat class is very straightforward, if you show up to lecture, lab, and do the homeworks you will surely pass. Getting an A is a challenge and he really makes you work for it. You have to consistently get As on all assignments. As long as you put in the study hours for this class, you will do well. Sit in the first few rows to pay attention.
By far the best math teacher I've had in my life. His class is extremely organized, very easy to follow along and TAs are very helpful if you need it. Very straightforward about what to expect on exams and gives plenty of resources to study. Weekly homework assignments which are not too bad if you don't leave them for last minute. Highly recommend
He is super organized, and if you pay attention in class, you will always feel well-prepared and like you have a grasp on the material. However, it's a giant lecture and there isn't much student engagement, so it's pretty easy to just sit on your phone the whole time. So it's really up to you to stay on task.
Oded is a very clear lecturer. He's incredibly organized and his lecture notes are great. Tests are very straightforward, and the class isn't hard. He did, however, raise an A to a 95 so you can't get more than 1 MC wrong on tests if you want an A. Would take again.
Love Professor Meyer! As long as you show up to lectures and take notes, you won't have a problem in his class. He goes over topics super clearly and always tells you what to study for on the midterm/final.
Funny guy, structures his class so that you don't have to do that much work and you can just follow along. Two midterms, a final, and weekly homework. Exams aren't difficult but you have to get every question right. Makes you buy a textbook that he wrote for $85 which sucks because you don't use it at all. Also, 95 for an A is really harsh.
His lectures were very boring, but i expected that going in because it was statistics. What i did not expect was the abnormally long weekly homework assignments and the difficult exams. i would overall not recommend this class to someone unless they have no other choice.
Prof Meyer is a great guy and a good teacher. If you show up to lecture and labs and do the homework, you will probably be fine, but the exams are incredibly difficult (especially the 2nd one). If you understand probability you will do well, if you don't, don't take this class.
Stats is a boring class, I'm not gonna lie. It's a req for many majors so you'll have to take it at some point & if you do, take it with Oded! He's such a sweet Israeli man. Many of his example probs are about marijuana so that's super fun. He is so organized you won't have to do any of that work yourself, so shoutout. Again snooze class, gr8 prof.
Oded is a solid choice. Very organized and great at explaining statistics. Go to lecture (without looking at phone), lab, and do HW independently and youll do fine. Allows sheet of notes for exams. My only complaint is that he posts his class notes that you have to print literally the day before lecture. Tests were fair, but ran a little long.
Dr. Meyer is so cool, but his voice is so monotonous that I fell asleep pretty much every lecture. Homework took about 2-3 hours a week but exams were questions straight from the homework so it was helpful! You get a cheat sheet for exams that its really helpful to write example problems on as well as formulas.
He seems like a really nice guy, but I found his lectures to be SO BORING and not very helpful. I also struggled more in the class than I thought I would even after attending all but one of the lectures. If I were to do it again, I'd probably skip more lectures and try to learn it on my own.
Oded tries to be very fair, which is very respectable in a lecture course. Grades are very test heavy (2 midterms and a final) which make up 75% of your grade. I didn't like the way certain questions were weighted -- some multiple choice were worth more than others. Do the homework and make a thorough study guide for the test and you will be OK.
Oded's class is super fair. Also most organized prof on campus. In the lectures he takes notes for you and you just copy it down. The tests take problems straight from lab/homework and basically just change the numbers. Be careful on the multiple choice because some of them are worth more than others.
Professor Meyer is very organized to make sure you succeed. He gives many practice problems in lecture, lab, & homework that are similar to the ones on the exams -- if you understand those 3 aspects the test is straightforward. Homeworks can be time-consuming and lectures can get dry at times, but overall he is a great teacher who knows his stuff.
Oded is a great choice for stats. He was really organized and generally presented the material in pretty simple way. There was a pretty significant amount of homework (a problem set a week that would take a few hours). As long as you go to office hours w/ him and the TA you will do well.
He's a great teacher and lecturer, super straightforward and easy to follow. Make sure to attend lectures and do the online textbook problems. Very passionate about subject matter and also funny. Great teacher and class makes a lot of sense. Would definitely take again.
Honestly, good easy stat class to take. He is super clear about what he wants on exams and as long as u do the homework and go to the labs it isnt difficult at all.
Professor Meyer cares about stats and will make you do so too. I didn't like his lectures because of my learning style; however, his textbook was set up so I could still succeed in his class and I found it very useful. The labs and homework are set up to boost your grade from tests so I suggest going to/doing them well. Overall, great course.
Oded is a solid stats professor and can be pretty funny. His lectures are straightforward and reflect what's on the labs and tests. The only drawback is that if you're not a math person you may lose your mind in these lectures as they can be drier than overcooked chicken. Not a bad choice though.
Great teacher! Everything is literally given to you to do well in the class. Attend lectures, do homework and labs, practice problems, and you'll do well on tests and in the class overall. Funny, easy going teacher.
He is very nice and approachable. I didn't love the class but because of him I didn't hate it.
Oded is just wonderful; he actually made me enjoy math. I found his lectures to be very interesting, especially with how he explained the various concepts. The class is simple, but you still have to work hard. Paying attention in his lectures (which I didn't find to be difficult) and doing the labs and homework is enough preparation for his tests.
He is a great professor except you really have to work hard to get an A. Not an easy A but a do-able A-. Review all the labs, hw, and lecture notes and you'll be fine!! Don't skip class (he is very good at explaining) so that you'll be able to understand the concepts. He is very friendly at office hours so please go visit him!
Oded is a KING. Show up, do the homework, and you'll pass. Follow his advice to a T and you might land an A. Super dry lectures, but if you manage to stay awake, you're golden. Really great guy, somehow recognized me even though it was a 250 person lecture.
Prof Meyer is a solid choice for stats. He is very organized, and this class is very straight forward. No surprises. I personally found the material quite tough, but most found it very manageable. The majority of grades were over 95% for my semester. He is also really funny and loves to tell stories. Great guy!
Prof. Meyer is probably the most organized and clear man you will ever meet. He teaches the material very well and makes it very digestible. His expectations for the exams are made very clear. Do the HW, labs (which are completion grades), and study for the exams and you'll be totally fine. Seriously the best prof.
Extremely organized professor who knows what he's talking about. The course is very straightforward. Weekly problem sets will take some time but are manageable. Exams are fair. Professor Meyer works very hard to present the material in a clear & concise manner & does a great job. 95 is an A, so he does make you work for it.
Professor Meyer has become one of my favorite professors at Georgetown simply because of how straight forward his class was. He makes expectations clear and he gives note packets for every class, making note taking easy and clear, but it is still important to show up. I highly recommend Meyer
The most straightforward, transparent, and genuine professor there is. You can definitely get an A/A- in the class by just reading through the lectures, but Oded does a really nice job in making sure you understand the material. He was especially caring of students during the pandemic. The only annoying part of the class is the long weekly homework
One of my best experiences in the math department. He is very clear and straightforward with his expectations.
Oded is a king; I was expecting stats to be extremely boring but he really tries to make it engaging! Also, he took Pandemic Stress into account and made things easier on us after classes switched to online. Would highly recommend for stats!
Lectures cover all needed material. He prints fill-in notes for you. No curveballs on exams or homeworks. Some topics can seem unrelated to many others. Homework can take a while or be difficult to comprehend, but it preps you well for the exam. Doesn't talk about underlying reasoning for some properties so they can seem difficult. TA helped lots.
Oded is awesome. I hate math but actually enjoyed this class because he sets you up for success by providing notes packets for class and fair exams. Oded is hilarious and although there is a lot o f material, lectures are enjoyable
I have no math or stats experience & this class was perfect for me. Oded starts from the very beginning, teaches you everything step by step, and gives you lots of time to understand the material. Exams are exactly like the material in homework and lectures. Very straightforward. If you go to lecture and lab and pay attention, you'll be fine!
Really good at explaining the math and concepts. Very fair grader with clear and fair deadlines/expectations. Recommend not missing lectures because it is important for doing well on exams. His homework and practice questions are very similar to the exam questions so study those well. You should be fine if you pay attention and seek help when neede
Honestly if you just write down what he says in class and review the notes for the tests you will pass. It's not a hard class and he was generally accomodating with online learning. Lets you use a cheat sheet on each test, but the tests are usually harder than the class material. Assignments are graded a bit harsh though.
Very kind and caring and a course that is not crazy hard, but you will have to work to learn the material. He generally cares about you and will always find time to meet with you.
Professor Meyer is the exemplar of a straightforward teaching strategy. Truthfully, if you go to class and pay attention to the examples, there is no assignment, quiz, or lab question that you won't be able to do. Because of his straightforward teaching and flexibility, this class caused me little to no stress and was very enjoyable.
An all-around great prof. Tests and assignments are straightforward without a single trick question in sight. Perfectly accessible to anyone new to math. He's very available and helpful to meet with. This course will teach you a ton of helpful stuff with almost no stress.
Professor Meyer is an incredible teacher. He truly cares about his students and tries to be as fair as possible. He makes the material very easy to grasp and all homework/labs/tests follow predictable formats. Highly recommended!
By far my most stress-free class. Professor Meyer was v accommodating to the remote environment. Each week there are 2 lectures, 1 lab, and 1 HW assignment. If you attend the lectures (or watch them later) there's no reason you shouldn't get an A. Everything was v straightforward. Lectures are technically optional but are necessary for HW/lab/tests
I love this professor! He genuinely cared about me and my classmates' stress levels, especially during the pandemic. The classes and notes were easy to follow along with and he managed to make a successful classroom over zoom which is extremely hard to do! We all love him, I'm not a math person but I am considering continuing to take statistics.
Very caring
I learned a lot from this class and I found this class to be very engaging! I couldn't care less for math, but he made statistics digestible. I can't say I did well in this class, but he was very accommodating (and so was the TAs). He has pre-written notes that you annotate, so if you follow along, you should be fine.
Oded is incredible. Kind, clear, very very helpful. You definitely need to work hard for an A, but he does great with the online format. 10/10 would recommend.
I really enjoyed Prof. Meyer's class! It's very lecture heavy, and while stats isn't always the most riveting subject, Prof. Meyer makes lectures interesting. He is super fair when it comes to grading, and his expectations are always clear. Prof. Meyer is genuinely a super nice person, lowkey funny, and really does want you to succeed in his class.
I really enjoyed Prof. Meyer's class. The tests can be challenging, but the homework assignments, review sheets, and labs are really helpful in preparing for them. There are a lot of resources, and it is not difficult to do well if you put work in.
very clear rules and tests! made stats easy for me when I was worried about it
O-Daddy!!! Oded is the best professor I've ever had. The clearest lecturer, the most organized person you will ever meet, and an all around King. You gotta go to class to understand the material though but you will be a stats genius and then you will forget everything you learned (unless you use it in other classes).
Prof Meyer is the best professor I've had at Georgetown. His lectures and teaching material are extremely straightforward and interesting. If you attend/watch the lectures and the labs + do the homework, you will be more than ready for the exams. More importantly, Meyer is hilarious, caring, and extremely supportive of his students.
2 weekly lectures, weekly homework, 2 midterms, 1 final. Prof Meyer is an incredible lecturer. He writes out the notes for you beforehand and you fill them in with him as he goes. He cares about his students and is very willing to help outside class. Homeworks game some time but watch the lectures (and take good notes) and youll be fine.
Literally all you need to do is show up and you'll excel. Everything is so clear in the labs and homework; they actually help reinforce concepts while being such an easy guide, linking back to homework. He explains everything so clearly and is always open for questions. Midterms are also very reasonable if you pay attention in class!
Professor Meyer is a wonderful lecturer. I'm not mathematically-inclined at all but he was so easy to follow. His notes and grading criteria are clear and his tests are incredibly fair (no surprises as long as you put in the work). Cares a lot about his students and is very accessible outside of class.
YOU WOULD BE CRAZY NOT TO TAKE HIM. His material is so clearly delivered; his lectures immaculate; his tests are so beyond fair. You will never feel surprised and will remember everything even after the class finishes. Mans a 10 bro. On God.
Professor Oded is the best! I was slightly nervous about Stats because I have never found it interesting, but Oded made me love it. He tried to make the class as stress-free as possible for us, and he really cares for his students. There are not a lot of grades so it is hard to get an A, but the homework is very helpful when taking the tests.
The GOAT.
Amazing professor. Explains everything so well during lecture and material is supplemented with homework and labs that really help! Exams are very similar to homework and labs. Oded gives you so many opportunities and resources to succeed.
Oded is the best! I took him for the intro statistics class and he did a great job of making the subject intuitive and interesting. The homeworks are really long but he gives you everything you need to know for them through lecture and TA labs, and tests are similar. Take him for stats!
Absolute legend. Currently listening in on his lecture while writing this review. Take his class because you really have no other choice at gtown for stats 040, but he makes stats a piece of cake. We love you oded.
Prof. Meyer is a sweetheart, never hesitate to attend office hours w/ him if you need to!! You'll easily pass if you study for exams and try to thoroughly understand the content. Homework is only due once a week, so it's not THAT much. He is very passionate about what he teaches so lectures are amazing and its fun to learn. 2 Exams 1 Final, 10 HWs
As someone who usually hates math, I have tons of respect for Prof. Meyer. He's extremely well-organized and provides students with all the resources we need to do well. The TAs are great and the workload is reasonable. It's really true for this class that your grade depends on how much work you put into it. Thanks Professor!!
Professor Meyer is a wonderful professor and I cant wait to take another one of his classes. He gives very straightforward guidelines and course expectations. As long you listen during lectures and do the work, youll do well. He never tests you on stuff he didnt teach.
Great prof! he makes the material sooo easy to understand and goes at a great pace. i'm not a math person AT ALL, but he made it so easy and very interesting and engaging. there is hw every week + a lab (for grade) and 2 midterms, but honestly it's all manageable and relatively easy and there are always TAs there to help
Clearest class I've ever taken in that you always know exactly what you need to do - nothing is ever a surprise on exams, so it's just a matter of whether or not you'll do the work. I will say that there are lots of small details that'll get you, and an A is a 95.0, so you can't always get away with winging it. Overall very solid choice.
Made this class so manageable and easy! Gives note packets for each lecture to guide you through, and you're allowed to have a sheet of notes for tests. Weekly homework + labs were helpful because it was all the practice problems you would need to study for tests. Note that a 95 is an A, not the usual 93. Keep up with everything and you'll be fine.
Love this man. He really made stats enjoyable and I learned a lot. His lecture handouts were extremely helpful, especially for reviewing before exams. Exams were easy with no surprising questions as long as you did the homework and paid attention in class. Take him!
AMAZING PROFESSOR!!! everyone at georgetown should take a class with him. the kindest, sweetest, most supportive professor ever. his classes are super super easy even if you're bad at math and he never used a single trick question. exam questions are straight from the homework. TAKE HIM
Great professor! Definitely a solid choice for intro to stats. He's super personable and funny. Too bad stats wasn't for me...if you're not a math person beware, this class will kick your butt. But not his fault haha.
TAKE HIM IF U CAN. He's an amazing prof and this was one of the easiest courses I've ever taken (esp if u like math). Very organized. No trick ques - test questions are very straightforward (v similar to hw/lab/review probs). One thing is midterms are worth 20% each and final is 35%, so study for tests! If you do that, you'll be fine.
His class is very structured and organized. Lectures are clear and easy to understand. In case you don't understand the lectures, the homework makes it really clear. Tests are very similar to homework problems and study guides.
amazing professor
Weekly homeworks. Structure is very straightforward, hard to not do well. He writes down all you need to know in handouts, so even if you don't pay attention in lectures, you can watch the recordings or read the handouts. 3 exams (worth a lot of the grade). He is very unfair about homework. even 1 min late = -20%. can drop 1 HW though.
A great lecturer and passionate about his subject. He grades homework very harshly, and is not always clear about what exactly he is looking for in the assignments. Exams are also a bit difficult but you are well prepared if you do the homework, go over your mistakes, and attend the lectures (...I did not). Classes are boring but well taught.
I love Oded! Seriously, I went into this class dreading having to take statistics, and for a brief moment, Oded convinced me that I might want to minor in it! I eventually came to my senses and stuck with my humanities track; nevertheless, Oded was a great professor I would happily take again! He only tests you on what he teaches, no surprises!
This class is good for people who aren't great at math. The class is very structured and Oded is very clear about what is going to be on the tests. Do the homework and study and you should do fine.
Prof Meyer is exceptionally organized, and his tests are very well made. He sets very clear expectations and never tries to trick you. Very tough HW grader. Mandatory lab section once a week. If you do what he tells you to do, you'll probably do very well.
Expectations are clear. Go to lecture, do homework, and you will do well. Not difficult, and not the class to take if you want to learn a lot, but a good STEM GPA boost.
Covers almost identical material to AP Stats. Good take for math requirement. Extraordinarily organized. Do the e-text and reviews and you will be fine. Gives one weekly homework assignment (1-3 hours to complete) and mandatory lab. Beware he wants you to print all notes or have them on an iPad. Calculator and binder not necessary, but recommended.
Clear, engaging professor with much expertise. Lectures are conducted with a packet of guided notes, so study materials are provided. The pacing of the course gives you time to understand the material but is brisk, so the material stays challenging. 10 fair homework assignments and 3 tests make up your grade. Recommend for anyone needing stats.
The most organized class ever. Graded on 9 HW sets, mandatory lab sessions with TAs, 2 midterms, and 1 final. Although lectures are recorded, go to class and do the suggested textbook problems, and you will do well in this class.
Very well organized class with clearly defined grading criteria. The 95 point cutoff for an A is definitely tough and the homework was graded pretty harshly (esp with written response) but it's overall easy to do well if you put in the effort and work with other people/go to office hours.
Although you need a 95 to get an A, the exams are very similar to the homework and labs, which makes it easy to succeed. Prof Meyer is a phenomenal lecturer and puts a lot of effort into making the class organized and fair. He also has an entertaining sense of humor.
Such an awesome professor. Everything is very clear-cut and organized, which helped me understand exactly what he was looking for on HW and Tests. His 95 cutoff for an A can be kind of tough, but definitely obtainable as long as you don't just wing the tests and take time reviewing the materials he provides.
Professor Meyer structures and executes a class for over 200 students in an organized and efficient way. Lectures are easy to follow and very accessible (can join on zoom) and there are many study resources available. Highly recommend for statistics!
Prof Meyer's class is truly an intro class. The class is not hard but very well-organized. He manages to clarify things that confused me in AP Stat. You just need to finish homework, go to lab, take notes, and you'll do great.
I only have good things to say about Meyer. He is very fair and is clear about what he expects. It isn't hard to do well in his class if you go to lectures, pay attention during labs, and meet with TAs before HWs are due. The midterms are similar to past HWs and he won't trick you plus he lets you bring in a sheet of notes which minimizes stress.
king. Large class, but so so organized. The notes are helpful and reinforcing, plus a great built-in study tool. I had never taken stats before, but really enjoyed it. As long as you go to lectures and do the homework you can do well. He and the TAs are very accessible. Have blue, green, and red pens on hand.. he loves a good color-coding moment :)
Fantastic professor. Lectures are very clear and helpful, not required to attend but I highly recommend going. Plenty of homework grades to help your grade. Exams are clear and have no surprises. Only downside is you need a 95% to get an A instead of a 93%.
Not to beat a dead horse here, but he's very solid. If you put in effort for the homework and the labs, you'll learn and be well-prepared for the two midterms and the final. Expectations are very clear, but high -- 95% A cutoff is no joke (had a 97 all semester and still got an A- b/c final was harder for me than the rest)
Though I haven't taken any stats classes before this one, I think Prof Meyer did an excellent job with the explanations and pacing of the material. Grade is mostly based on the 2 midterms and final, which are as difficult as he says they are, but the 95 A is a high bar. Lectures are sometimes not the most engaging, but it is still worth it to go.
Dr. Meyer was great. You know exactly what to expect. 2 midterm exams, 9 homeworks, 12 labs. Lowest homework and two lowest labs dropped from final grade. He is very equitable (preaches fairness) you earn the grade you earn and that is it. His lectures do get boring, he teaches at the class, not with the class. He offers a synchronous zoom option.
the exams are extremely fair, if you study the review problems, go over HW and labs, and make good cheat sheets you will do well. lectures can get boring, but sometimes he's kinda funny. he really dislikes when people talk during lecture so pls don't. labs are based on participation but they're really helpful for exams
Had 0 interactions with the prof, but he makes all lectures available over Zoom (still you don't have to go as long as you kind of go along with the homework), super long and annoying hw where you lose random points; the labs are the chillest thing ever, just attend. 2 midterms, 1 final. All very straightforward and you get an A if you put effort.
Prof Meyer runs a well-organized statistics course. The content is manageable if you attend lectures, do the homework, and utilize resources like TAs and the textbook. Unstuck ai was also a helpful study tool. Recommended for an intro stats class.
STEM class, so a little but of work work. A nice man, but did not interact with him too much because it was a 250 person class.
Very clear and organized. Heed his warnings or you will bomb the midterms/final, but if you do practice problems or study you'll get an A.
By far the fairest professor I've ever had. Professor Meyer teaches exactly what you need to know for his exams—no trick questions! Everything is covered in the lecture notes, HW assignments, and labs. Only thing to keep in mind is that the cutoff for an A is a 95, but he provides all the resources you need to succeed. Highly, highly recommend!
Professor Meyer made it as easy as possible to succeed in intro stats. As long as you did his homeworks and practice exam questions, you are going to do really well on the exams.
Even though you need a 95% to get an A, this is arguably one of the best courses at Georgetown, bar none. Dr. Meyer is a humorous professor who tells you everything you need to know for exams during lectures. Make sure you ask TA's and attend office hours for more guidance. Just do what's expected of you, review the material, and you'll be fine.
Meyer is the most straightforward prof, and tests were literally the HW and the lectures with different numbers. Allows one page cheat sheets during exams. Do the HW it helps soooo much. Only thing is that an A is 95%.
Incredibly clear professor. He teaches you EXACTLY what you need to know, even down to the wording of questions. While homework and labs can take a while, they help you prepare for tests in the long run. You're also allowed a one-sided sheet of notes for tests and two-sided for the final, so you don't have to memorize formulas. An A is a 95 though.
super clear lecturer - teaches you exactly what you need to know in order to succeed in the class. boring lectures, but he has a sense of humor sometimes. 100% recommend taking this class. the only downside is that you need a 95% to get an A
Never seen someone beeing so organized and prepared for the whole semester. Before you enter the class, he knows when everything is done and how everything is organized. The grading criteria are clear and the labs really help with the lectures and homework and then tests. He also has every lecture on zoom so you don't need to go to the lactures.
Prof Meyer is truly a very straightforward teacher who wants his students to succeed in his course.
Professor Meyer is very straightforward about grading criteria and class structure. His stats class was pretty awesome.
Stats is difficult and boring, but Prof Meyer made it understandable and fun! One of the few professors that actually tests what they teach and teaches what they test. Put in effort and you will be fine because everything he does sets you up for success
Good 'ol Oded is a really funny guy, and manages to keep lectures understandable. For me at least, I didn't pay a ton of attention in lecture, but the weekly homework assignments, labs, and abundance of practice problems really helped. Do the "recommended practice problems" before the test, and the 95 for an A won't be a problem!
Oded Meyer equips his students with the skills to get an A in the class. He is a spectacular teacher, his lectures are organized, he publishes a full-semester schedule with a layout of all assignments and exams, and his expectations are clear. Most importantly, his tests are fair, and he even lets you bring in a one-sided sheet of notes.
If you pay attention in lecture, do the homework, and use the study guides he gives you, this is a very easy class. Everything is understandable in the class, and as long as you study the tests have no curveballs really.
Do not take
my favorite prof. everyone loves him (whoever doesn't is an anomaly and probably put in 0 effort sorry). this is one of those classes where effort = grade. he's so amazing this class is so perfect i LOVED it
I absolutely loved this class. Prof. Meyer is so funny and entertaining, and he explains the content very clearly. The tests are very fair, and it is easy to do well if you put in the effort.
He is a very fair professor. Tests resemble concepts from lectures, homework, and labs, meaning that if you put effort into the materials provided, you should do well on the tests. You don't need me to tell you how good of a professor he is, just scroll through all of the other ratings and see lol.
Great professor for MATH1040. Very clear about his expectations for homework and exams. Cracks some good jokes here and there. Would take him again over anyone else teaching this course!
Just like everyone else has said- probably the most straightforward, organized, and fair professor I've had. Absolutely nothing on tests that wasn't taught in class, and homework and labs are perfect practice for exams. Great teacher for this class, whether or not you've ever taken stats before.
He is probably the most organized person I have ever encountered, and if you pay attention to his instructions and expectations it is basically a guaranteed A. I will say sometime lectures can be disengaging because he goes over the same thing repeatedly and spend excess times on objectively simply concepts. Still like the dude tho.
Super organized, gives a very manageable workload, and is very clear about his expectations. Exams are straightforward and you get a cheat sheet, but definitely still study and do the homework problems if you want an A.
My first time taking statistics -- he explained concepts clearly during lecture, made expectations very clear, grading was fair. Very organized. Easy to get in the A range for exams if you do the homework and labs and study. Iconic professor, would recommend.
