Actually made Chem not too bad!
Taking this class was the first time I've ever felt that I understood chemistry. And I heard Organic (polymers) was supposed to be hard. She's a great lecturer and all-around nice person.
Very good teacher, as she will offer help if you need it, unlike many others with out of control egos. She makes chemistry tolerable and dare I say "fun"
Very kind and helpful
In class right now
She is good only if you are in her rec. otherwise she is very unhelpful.
first of all LOVE HER HAWAIN SHIRTS!!! second...she dont have any curve, tests are super tricky and hard, so wouldnt recommend her at all...she confuses herself in lecture so i dont think she'd be much help to u
by far the best teacher in the world. most down to earth and wants to make sure u get the basics befroe going on. she is amaind. helped me out and has a high patients level! willing to help soo much and a wonderful lady. i would take any class with her!
Great person, very helpful and considerate, very smart, fair grader
Really really nice teacher, knows how to teach well, I only had her in recitation, don't know how she lectures. But I do recommand her in lab and rec.
Great teacher. Beats the hell out of Donahue, so I'm told. Very thorough with lecture. Notes are great.
Shes a great teacher and is always willing to help. Explains things so you understand and her exams are very straight forward. You can bet that some of the problems from the practice exam will be on the real exam. Anyone who doesnt like her wont like any teacher.
a terrible recitation instructor, dont take anything with her.
Quite possibly the worst recitation teacher ever! She is terrible and rude! She thinks everyone is a cheater and never gives enough time to do the work.

this lady is rude, annoying, and just a horrible rec. instructor. Avoid her if u can.
i cant believe i ended up with this thing. she is extremely rude and cold and is very un-approachable.

Shes an awesome recitation teacher. Explains material much more clearly than any of the lecturers. Shes very experienced and is extremely approachable. TRUST ME
Awesome! you need someone like her if your taking a large lecture hall class like chemisrty. Very approachable. Knows her stuff and able to teach it. She really cares for her students that put in an effort. Willing to meet with you anytime. Love her!:)
She gives more work than other recitation instructors but it actually helps alot.
great!!!!!!!
She is awesome at teaching this class. Her lecture notes from the board really help you when you take exams. She is really nice about helping students out. i really enjoyed this class because of her. If Donahue is not teaching this and she is, take it with her!
freaking worst rec. instructer alive. ever! mean, rude, condescending, unclear, not helpful. too much unnecessary work (but that may just be the course, im not sure). would avoid her like the black plague. no joke!
As helpful as she is cute
good things about Ogie: helpful, fair grader,Not too hard, explains well( but makes some mistakes every now and then),is available in the office for help, can take jokes. bad things about ogie: gets mad if your late(takes points off), stubborn, makes you feel stupid when you ask a question, and kind of rude
The class was very easy, anything that she wants you to know, she writes it on the board so you really don't have to pay that much attention. The lab was easy also, even though they were irrevalant to what we were learning. There are alot of quizzes so it is easy to keep your grade up.
wow ogie is great. she is the only reason why i passed chem 134. she can takes jokes, shes fun, and understanding, answers emails quickly, and is always in office for help. she explains everything, if u bring in webassign qs she works them out for class examples, she explains and answers questions well. best chem teacher at um-d.
I had never taken a chemistry course before and Professor Stewart was very helpful. Managed to get a B in the class which I was content with. At least 1 quiz a week. As long as you pay attention and do the homework you will do fine. Most people who had chemistry previously found the class very easy.
She was very helpful, easy to follow she grades on a curve in the end depending on class average, she was a whole lot better than other chem profs
shes really good at exlplainin, but if u ask a question,it kind of seems like shes yelling at u
hard grader,she screams when explaining
She was a really bad teacher....don't take her: she assigns a****load of homework(which she expects you to do all of) and only goes over problems in class....aka she doesnt really explain the material. Also-her tests were very unfair...she did test on things she taught....but she also tested on things she didnt teach. Overall....a bad professor.
Professor Stewart is great. She is very clear at explaining equations and does countless examples on the board during lectures. She assigns online homework once a week, which is annoying, but helpful at the same time. She answers emails very quickly. There are a lot of assignments, but they can bring your grade up. I recommend her.
she yells at students (they deserve it cuz they dont do their hw). Her exams are tricky. She gives out sample exams identical to the exams, but she still finds a way to make them hard. many people dropped her class. i like her a lot. she is very smart but stressed it seems. she prepares well for exam, but they still have a way of biting in the ass.
Professor Stewart is the best chemistry teacher you can get, take her wherever you can. Don't get intimidated. Make sure you understand the webassign and you'll be fine on her tests. She gives sample exams almost identical to tests. On a side note, she could make her tests 100x harder if she wanted to, she is very nice. She is VERY fair.I got an A+
Excellent professor. Very helpful and easy to understand. Problems on webassigns and recitation work are exam questions. Tons of graded work, which is good if you're not a good test taker.
OMG I LOVE OGIE! she is probably THE best chem professor at UMD. teaches very well, notes are awesome, and tests are fair. All extra work she gives is for our benefit, and the points certainly do help. Always willing to help, and she is so cute!! i wish i could have her for all my chem classes. definitely recommended! :)
While she's great for 134, Ogie is really bad for 136. She hasn't taught the class before and often doesn't know the answer to students' questions. The exams are too long, try to include everything we've done, the average is consistently a very low D. Poorly paced, confusing. This could improve when she teaches the class more often.
ogie's first semester of teaching 136 is not going well. i would not recommend taking her for this class although i liked her for chem 134. the class average is very low. harder topics are rushed, easier topics are repeated too much. exams are impossibly long. often can't even answer students' questions. do not take this prof for this class!
honestly, she was great for 134 because she's used to teaching it, but i did not like her 136 class at all. she often did not know the answer to questions she was asked. the average in our class was extremely low; half the class failed each exam. she is nice and tries to be helpful, but i'd avoid her for this class, even if you liked her for 134.
Professor Stewart is the best professor I have ever had. My first impression of Gen Chem II was that it was gonna be very hard but Professor Stewart made it so clear and straight forward. It was nearly impossible to be confused in her lectures and labs. Overall OUTSTANDING Professor for chem 136.
I've had Ogie for Chem 134 and 136. She is a nice lady. The class is relatively difficult and the tests are very long. She grades fairly, and is really helpful. She is usually in her office alot so you don't have to worry about going during office hours. You have to go to class and study for this class.
Ogie is so cute! I had her for lab and recitation. She was always willing to help her students, was very pleasant and very funny. She grades hard on the labs but her quizzes for recitation are very fair. Great professor! :)
Very good, learned more in one semester of Chem 136 than a whole year of AP Chem. I thought it would be a waste of time but it really fills in the gaps of AP. Dr. Stewart's lectures are clear enough so no actual reading (Zumdahl was terrible anyway) was necessary. There is a LOT of work off of Webassign, but you know the material when you're done.
As a lab teacher, she is the best! explains experiment and how to answer report questions. For lecture, she doesnt explain well, she is NOT CONFIDENT at all, she spent time on easy things more tha new material. She always explained new topics 1 night before the test, always behind. B+, fall 08
Ogie is good. I was afraid to ask questions bc she assumes that u didn't read the book. The exams r pretty hard, but alot of the mult choice can be found from old exams. PRACTICE! i took it in the spring and that's a mistake I made..didn't spend enough time on the class. Ended up with a B. Take her. Heard she's easier than Lawson.
She usually doesn't teach Chem 144, so she seemed lost or scrambling at sometimes. Her expectations aren't always clear. Problem Sets and Lecture Exercises are easy, but she gets you on the exams. Study using the practice exams and study guides you should be able to pull off a B.
Let's make something incredibly clear: Ogie Stewart is a chemist. If you are an engineer and have been thrown in her 144 class; run to your adviser NOW and get OUT OF IT. She is NOT an engineer. Furthermore, despite the sub 70% class average, she DID NOT curve. anything. Reasoning? "Her grading scale is based on points, she cant curve points." BS
Awesome curve. Had her for both 144 and 146. I did awful on all of the exams and still pulled a c in both classes. I'm glad that my time in chemistry is now done. Good Professor
Prof Stewart is an extrememly nice professor and a great chemist. She made lab entertaining and interesting. However, she is a tough grader and expects you to pay attention to details. Make sure you read the lab in detail before class because some pre-lab quizzes are tough. I definitely recommend Prof Stewart :)
This professor is good, she explains the material well and simple. I had no prior chemistry class but still am doing good in the class. Her exams are not too hard, she gives study guides that are an exact replica of the exam. I would recommend her.
very knowledgeable about chem and easy to understand in lecture. not approachable at all-if you ask a question during lecture she makes you feel REALLY dumb. tests were pretty clear and gave a practice test to study off of which was exactly like the exam so you know what to expect
GREAT professor she really is great at teaching chemistry, although she does not seem happy when you ask her a question, she does make sure that you fully understand the question before you leave class. If you listen in class do the exercises and read the book on your own time you will get an A without a problem
Loved this professor. She was hard-hitting and made sure you learned the material. She seems tough but she's a great instructor. The labs, lecture, and Mastering Chem all lined up with each other. If you studied and did the practice exams, you were sure to pull an A/B on the tests. Anyone who says otherwise is bitter because they didn't.
I love prof Ogie. She is really nice and explains and runs through the lab so when you get to it you know what you were doing. The only thing is that she never gives out any perfect scores on lab reports. She marks you down for the little things that don't even matter that much but I RECOMMEND taking her. For recitation you'll have WS due everyday.
Easy A. She goes over all the examples in class and gives u the practice exam exactly like the real exam, as a study guide(but different numbers).
o it certainly isn't an easy class nor an easy A. i am at 95% right now, and i am working HARD. she says this is to prepare for 136, because its supposed to be more harder and more work. homework is annoying. if it was unlimited attempts, it would be better. cant say much about exams. they kinda are similar to guide and kinda not so...
Fair teacher. Moderately difficult exams. Drops exam and replaces with the final. Mastering chemistry thoroughly covers topics! Review ever other day for an A.
Ogie is a great professor. She gives lecture notes with great examples. She works through them in class. Tests are easy and a lot like the practice exam. Mastering chem is really thorough and helps you learn the material. Study and it's an easy A!
Straight up G. Tests are moderately difficult, practice exams and Mastering Chemistry will help alot. Gets a bit sassy at times. Will make fun of you for being stupid.
Stewart treats you like an idiot if you ask questions or don't understand, even in recitation. Does not care how your grade is or if the class is understanding the material. Average grades in the class are poor.
Professor Stewart is awesome! Her lectures were very thorough, clear, and understandable. Her notes were great and she practiced problems in class with everyone. She's not easy but if you study everything, you should be able to pull of a B pretty well.
Dr.Stewart is everything a professor should be. I was so intimidated taking chem for the first time since 10th grade but she explains everything so clearly. Great lecture notes, homework is relevant. She doesn't pick on students or pick favorites .Very honest fair teacher. Exams are tough if you don't study. This class requires full effort.
I thought her lectures were well explained; she included lots of practice problems *in* the lecture too. DO THE PRACTICE EXAMS!! They are so helpful and similar to the tests. Mastering Chemistry is annoying-- don't wait until three hours before to start.
Ogie is a very nice person. She gives you all the tools to do great. Their truly is no excuses if you do bad. The material is hard however, but ogie does go out of her way to help and shes very clear. Even though shes helpful, this is still a hard class and theres alot of little things in this class that add up. Pay attention to mastering chem!
Stewart is a great professor. she's very helpful and nice.To do well You need to: 1)review the lecture after class 2)do practice problems from the book 3) do mastering chemistry(MC is very helpful and the exams's problems are almost the same as the problems in MC) 4)do the practice exam before the test. there will be 3 tests and a final. i got A+.
Stewart is awful. She's rude and condescending - doesn't even listen to students. I have a science/math background and ended up with an A, but I hated every minute of this class. She says "ok" literally every 5 seconds, I heard more of that than actual chemistry. Ugh, avooooid.
Awesome teacher. Will explain everything that is on the exam. Tests are very similar to material in class. She is extremely helpful and really good at teaching the material. Do MC and pay attention in recitation
Excellent professor. Her exams are multiple choice and short answer so she gives partial credit compared to Al-Quasi who does all multiple choice. She emphasizes things you need to know and answers questions clearly. Gives out practice tests which are exactly like the exam. TAKE HER.
RUN FOR UR LIFE!! Avoid at all costs. She is the worst teacher ever. her problems are impossible and only a mathematician can solve them. DO NOT TAKE HER!
Didnt really like the class much. Lectures were a bit hard to understand and the exams were crazy hard. The class average on one of the exams was like a 62%. She doesnt give out extra credit either
I love this lady! she is fun & keeps lecture interesting. She gives you notes on ctools to print off before lecture with blanks for you to fill in as she lectures which was super helpful. She is really good about informing students & posting practice tests. She doesn't give extra credit or curve, but she's a great teacher! i recommend her!
Great at teaching, but the exams are very hard and she does not curve even though the avg is like 65. She is nice and cares about her students though.
Dr. Stewart is by far one of the best chemistry professors I've had! She posts fill-in-the-blank lecture notes online and it's great because it keeps you attentive. Lectures are super clear and does a lot of examples on the board. Her exams are practically copied off the homework and recitation. She says she doesn't curve but we all know she does!
She is a very good teacher and gives you notes with fill in the blanks. This really helps to keep students paying attention. She'll answer any of your questions. I found her tests to be very tricky. Even a single word in the question could change the answer! Also, all the answers are based on previous students mistakes, so be careful and study!
Ogie is the bomb. Take her if you want to actually understand chemistry. You will not need the book at all whatsoever. In the case that you do:the ebook is on prentice halls's website (it applies to chem 134 and 136):
Wouldn't advise taking this class while taking other hard classes. She covers material really fast and is obsessed with sticking to her schedule. It's hard to keep up. Tests are tricky, require thorough understanding of the topics & how to apply concepts in different ways. She has high expectations of her students, it's a challenging class.
Stewart is really good
Had originally left a bad review for her but she curved my grade and I ended up doing better han I thought I would. This class is difficult no doubt & she makes her tests super tricky but if you work hard you can get an A with her. Make sure to do all HW & do good in lab and rec. I had about a 50-60 average on the exams & still got an overall B
Whew! Glad it's over! Lol.
GO TO OFFICE HOURS!! I went just 1-2 times and she curved my grade big time. If she sees you working hard she will give you a good grade. The exams are super hard so try and get all the other points you can (like modules, mastering chem hw, lab quizzes + reports, recitation worksheets + quizzes, & lecture exercises). and READ THE BOOK! Good luck!!
Took her for 134 in the summer. Gives guided notes that you fill in as lecture goes on. Overall, a good experience. Very helpful, and will answer your questions. Tests are mostly fair but can be very challenging, however, that is the case with most 134 professors. I recommend her.
DOES NOT CURVE. I had to emphasize that, it seems a lot of people are under the impression that she does. Her exams are not easy, you have to know your stuff, she chooses the problems that are most challenging. DO MASTERING CHEM HW. Don't just google the answers, I found that a lot of her exam questions were similar to the HW. Don't recommend her.
Very good professor. Made gchem 1 a breeze. took it in the summer so it was accelerated. her lecture notes are phenomenal. I would take again
Amazing professor in my opinion. Made it easy for me to understand chemistry. Gives lecture notes to follow along with class, and posts everything online. Tests are hard, but if you know how to work her examples and go to SI, you'll be fine! Definitely taking her for my other chemistry!
If you want to pay to watch someone do all of the problems from the book, go ahead and take her. Otherwise, I'd stay away. Doesn't teach much from a conceptual standpoint, rather choosing to teach by encouraging rote memorization. Disappointing after reading the great reviews.
She manages to make even the difficult concepts understandable. Excellent Professor. She makes the notes clear and concise and provides students with an outline for all the notes. Just do your studying and you'll get the grade you deserve.
Took this for the winter semester! Amazing professor, had her for both chem classes and got A's for both. Gives notes that you go over in class and the test is majorly multiple choice and has to do with calculations. Just study the notes and practice the calculations! She was amazing and definitely one I'm going to take for all chems that I can!
Professor Stewart is on the outside a tough and strict professor, but if you dig in she will go above and beyond for you. Exams are tough, so know your material, but don't be afraid to email her, go to SI, or office hours. She will not hesitate to make sure you know the material. Also, she says she doesn't curve (But we all know she does)
Dr. Stewart is a phenomenal instructor and person. She honestly cares for her students and works with you if you show effort. I had her for summer 1 and I have to say her exams are tough, but if you study hard, go to SI, and do her study guide and homework you will be just fine!
She goes on everything. She is one of the best teachers I've ever had. Quizzes are easy. Lots and lots of homework. turn in the homework on time or she will take points off.
Most of the people here complaining don't have a solid understanding of chemistry and just take Chem 134 straight away. If you want to succeed in this class, take Chem 090 first then take Chem 134. If you do have a good understanding of chemistry, then go ahead and take Chem 134. It's really not that hard, just apply yourself.
I love Ogie! Very clear explanations, and always makes sure to emphasize important concepts. Will answer any questions you have. Clear expectations. Wants you to succeed. Wish I had her for chem 134 - one of the best chem profs at Dearborn.
This class was one of the hardest things I've ever done in my life. Web-Assign takes forever, but if you can do it without google, you can pass the open-ended part of the test. You HAVE to go to class. She doesn't put everything in her notes. She also gives out class exercises randomly. Lab will help your grade. The final is easier than the tests.
One of the best science professors at UMD. Not an easy class, a lot of homework and tough exams but explains everything and is willing to help
She's a great Prof, she realizes heavily on lectures so don't miss any of those. shes really cool and one of the best chem profs at Umd. The exams are hard but she does provide a list of exactly whats going to be on the test. Be prepared to study outside of class a ton and this class takes up a lot of time with the studying and the homework. If som
Make sure you attend her class because she gives out random assignments. She's a nice person but sucks at responding to emails. No matter who your chem professor is the material is going to be hard so study A LOT. She forgets to review a lot of things during lecture but puts them on the exam not sure why. Don't be like me, keep on top of everything
I loved having Professor Stewart. Prof Stewart wants her students to succeed and do well. I bought the book but stopped using it halfway through the semester. She gives random lecture exercises so show up to class or you lose points. Chem is hard so you have to put in a lot of outside work.
She is a great professor but her lectures are pretty boring. Exams are not too hard if you study. Many students do poorly on the exams so she will add bonus points to pick up the low average. Textbook is not needed, the mastering chemistry homework is plenty. Lots of homework, and if you do it all and use it to study for exams you'll be fine.
She puts in a lot of effort n explains concepts with detailed ppts. Gives out in class exercises which count for a grade, meaning attendance is mandatory, but these exercises are super helpful and those same types of questions come on the exam + the study guide that she writes out all answers for. Stay on top of masteringchem and constantly practic
Puts in a good amount of effort to teaching. Doesn't try to fail you but the class is hard so if you don't do work you'll fail yourself. All material on tests will be covered in her lectures or occasionally during lab. Test questions are similar to homework and reviews are very helpful for studying. Don't buy textbook except to study from/practice.
She understands the material, but overcomplicates when she explains it. Basic examples of problems are done in class, but are more complex on test. You must study outside of class to receive a good grade. The textbook cost OVER $200 and was a waste of money. Print out the notes and bring them to class. Overall good teacher, but is the only teacher.
If you truthfully do the Prob Sets, Lec Ex's, go to lecture, and ask for clarification, there is no reason to not get at least a B on all the exams. Her exams were always derivations of questions we saw. Not necessarily easy but we knew what was coming. Her lectures were straightforward, most people just do not put in the effort to be honest.
Professor Stewart was very clear about her expectations. She provides clear deadlines and information for all the assignments and exams. There was a lot of homework but I found it easy. If you do enough practice you can ace this class.
This professor made me actually enjoy chemistry. Her lectures are very helpful and she goes through each problem step by step. She has high expectations of her students. She is very nice and is available outside of class. Don't skip lectures because there are lecture exercises and homework due. The only negative is she doesn't allow laptops.
I had her for recitation and she was so helpful. She would always answer any questions you had and would go through the kind of problems you would find on the exams. An absolutely amazing and outstanding professor who just wants to see you succeed. Take her if you get the chance, you will thank yourself later.
Pretty good teacher. Class is all lecture and not very discussion based, theres a ton of homework though, be ready for 3 hours of lecture, 1 hour recitation, 3 hour lab, SI and exam time each week as well as a problem set, recitation exercise, full lab report, and study time. Exams are crazy hard and the class keeps you so busy its hard to study
Originally rated her bad the first week of class because I honestly hate chem, did really good on the first exam its honestly all up to you, she teaches ok and explains things good, your gonna have to ask questions and stay on top of assignments in order to understand the topics.
Perhaps the worst professor in the country. She is unwilling to cooperate even to the smallest extent. In Gen Chem 1 she told the class that if you are doing bad just drop half way through the semester and didnt offer help. Her argument is that is 21/151 students got an A that means the teat wasnt hard. Just reads basic facts and gives no direc
She isnt a bad person but her exams are too difficult and shes not Lenient. The whole class is averaging around 60 and she thinks that since 21 of 151 students have high scores that shes doing good. She moves way too fast. She goes through a chapter every week and its too difficult to keep up. I honestly wouldnt recommend sorry.
As much of a sweet lady this Professor is outside of class, I would never take her again. She has an attitude when you ask questions in class. It's almost as if she try's everything in her power to make sure students don't succeed in her class. If you have other options, keep this in mind.
She may not be an amazing professor, but she is definitely the best professor to take chem134 with. Most people end up retaking this class anyways. don't trip.
I'm a straight A student, but I received my first and only D+ in Stewart's class. After taking Stewart for CHEM 134 & 136, I switched out of the premed track. She had an extremely negative attitude, and she gave excessive unrealistic amounts of work. I'm so glad I switched to a better major & I'm finally graduating! I don't recommend her at all.
Study 20-30 hours for each test and you will do great. Tests are every 2 weeks ish. So around 10 hours a week of studying and you will ace her tests. Dont do masteringchem last minute but memorize her slides and do practice probs from the book. Use the MC hw to test yourself (not last minute ofc). Just stay ahead and do all the work to practice
Chemistry will be hard no matter what. Do all your work ahead of time and study from the book or lecture slides and youll do fine. Shes a great teacher and shes polite if youre polite as well. Study a good amount of time and throughout a few days. Never study last minute for a chemistry class. Lots of memorizing and practicing.
the only thing I took away from this class is that I need tomato sauce, Cheese and dough to make a pizza.
One of the worst professors Ive ever had. Tough grader and hard to impress.
She is a very tough grader. There is a homework every week, plus 3 exams through the semester. A final exam and some quizes. Lectures are not mandatory. Once a week there is a recitation class which the attendance is mandatory in.
Professor Stewart is probably the best chem professor for 134. She knows what shes talking about and explains it in a clear manner. All these negative reviews were people who just got a bad grade. If you are a good student and you keep on top of your work professor stewart is for you. Highly recommend
Stewart does a pretty good job of teaching the material. Chem134 goes at a VERY fast pace, there's a lot to cover, and online homework is due each week. If you can keep up with the workload, chances are you'll be fine, as a lot of the stuff is from high school chemistry. For quizzes and exams, expect there to be no curve to help you out.
The best way to succeed in this class is to study and keep up with the material. Her lectures are actually very great as she explains the topics thoroughly. She is also a very kind person as a whole. The grade you get depends on how much practice you do, but she gives all you need to do great!
her class isnt too bad but chemistry itself requires a lot of studying. she is nice and not a tough grader. she isnt the greatest teacher though. lectures are mandatory even though she says they arent because there are lecture assignments.
She's the worst prof ever DO NOT take her she only reads PowerPoint and her tests and quizzes are soo hard you have to do everything on your own DO NOT TAKE HER
she was a teacher, nothing more
Awful professor. Does not try to help when you have a question. Her exams were very tough.
She may be nice outside of class but she has an attitude whenever you ask her for help. Lectures are pointless because the exam questions are focused on exceptions and made more difficult. I would not recommend her at all.
Chemistry is a tough subject, she is a good professor and cares about her students. I was disappointed in my grade but it is not her fault, it is the subject in general if you don't understand it you'll be behind. In lectures there are assignments so I would say it's mandatory to go, other than that just be prepared to stress out not her fault.
Horrible Professor. Does NOT care about her students at all. VERY difficult exams, Will go over the same type of problems for a whole chapter and then completely flip the script on the exams. Stay as far away as possible folks.
I think that Professor Stuart is okay in the lecture, but when you ask questions she is very passive-aggressive and doesn't answer, and when you get something wrong she corrects you in a mean way. I had a 99% in chem in High School and now I'm barely passing the class. I studied until 6 am for the final exam and didn't even achieve the average :(
Her exams are hard even if you study everything, she tells you to study. It is the multiple choice that gets a lot of people, so try to study the concepts as much as you can. I went to her office hours many times, and she did help me understand. Her attitude can come off a little rude, but she truly does care about her students.
Very well organized, and tried hard in making sure her students understood the content if they asked questions. If you show up to class wanting to learn, you should be able to succeed in this class.
As long as you study her lecture slides, mastering chem hw, and recitation hw you should 100% pass with an A. Exams very similar to her slides and mastering chem hw. Extra points and no surprises on exams. If I could take her for every science course I would!!! 100% would recommend.
I think she is a very fair professor. It is hard to get an A in the class, but this class never made me frustrated. She clearly defines what is expected of you and you just gotta do it. She also provides many resources to help you out. One of the better chem professors, highly recommend!
Very easy to get along with and a great teacher. Chemistry is very "teach it yourself" but Professor Stewart is willing to help you given you don't understand the material in a more friendly way than other profs. Her exams are straightforward given you review the slides and mastering chem correctly
Very rude and sarcastic when asked a question. Expects you to know and remember every little thing she talks about in lecture.
Don't do it
Worst professor I asked her for help she told me it would be best for me to withdraw. Her class average on every exam was a 60/100. She gives out random in class assignments for credit. Does not help, will rush you out of her office hours and is inconsiderate. I would not recommend her at all, especially if your taking chemistry for the first time.
Over half the class got 60% on exams, once the average was in the 50's. Assignments and lectures are irrelevant to the; exams, sometimes new material or something that was only briefly explained was on the exams. Not once did the exam average even get close to being a C, lot alone an A or B. She was very rude when people would ask questions.
Chemistry is hard but I don't think it's fair to blame the prof. Honestly, she curves everything so much that it's impossible to fail.
One of the best prof. i have taken so far. Very caring, exams are difficult but very doable. Doesn't offer extra credit. TAKE HER!!!
A fair but challenging professor. Exams are tough but manageable with consistent effort. Unstuck AI and the free textbook were helpful for staying on top of the material. Recommended if you're willing to put in the work.
Lab reports are graded a bit strictly, but for recitation, she explains problems really thoroughly. Very organized as well; all her resources are easily available on Canvas, and she responds quickly to emails
Do not take this course! Read all these bad reviews and take them into consideration. Our average on every exam was 60/100 a failing average! Her exams are nothing like she teaches and you'll be rushed throughout your entire exam. Just save your time and money this is not worth it.
Prof Ogie is an utter catastrophe. Lectures ramble pointlessly, slides are a typo-filled mess, and exams are impossible, unrelated to anything taught. she's always late, office hours are useless, and grading feels like a dice roll. This class crushed my GPA and spirit—avoid at all costs. Zero stars, pure misery. Sometimes she's the only option G.L.
Ogie is the worst prof ever for Chem 134. Lectures are a chaotic mess—disorganized, rushed, and impossible to follow. No clear explanations, just mumbled jargon. Assignments are brutal, with zero guidance. Office hours? Useless—rude and dismissive. Expects you to already know everything. Ruined my GPA and love for chem. Avoid at all costs!!!!!!!!!!
Ogie's Chem 134 wrecked me. Her lectures are a whispery mess—no flow, just chaos. I'd beg for help, but she'd roll her eyes or snap. Homework felt impossible, exams were a blindside of untaught stuff. She's cold, detached, and crushed my spirit. My grades plummeted, and I hate chem now. Avoid her class—it's a soul-sucking trap.
Taking Chem 134 with Ogie crushed me. His lectures are a mumbled jumble—half-asleep, no structure. I'd cry over homework with no clue, and she'd scoff if I asked anything. Exams hit like a truck, stuff she never taught. She's distant, harsh, and killed my chem spark. My GPA's toast, and I'm scarred. Run from this prof! do not risk it!!!
Ogie's Chem 134 broke me. His lectures feel like a fever dream—scattered, quiet, and confusing. I'd ask for help, but he snaps or ignores me. Homework's a mystery, exams are brutal, and I'm lost. He doesn't care if we sink, just drones on. My grades tanked, and I dread class. Save yourself from this cold, awful prof! SHE IS THE WORST, GOOD LUCK.
Ogie's Chem 134 totally broke me. Her lectures are a sleepy whisper-fest—zero vibes, just confusion. I'd ask stuff, and she'd glare or sass me. Homework? A nightmare with no hints. Exams crushed me with random junk she skipped. She's icy, rude, and killed my chem love. My GPA's dead, and I'm over it. Skip her class, babes!
Prof Ogie's is unbearable. Her lectures are disjointed and quiet—impossible to follow. Questions get sharp replies or silence. Homework lacks direction, and exams cover untaught material. She's aloof, impatient, and wrecked my interest in chem. My grades suffered badly. Avoid her class.
RUN DO NOT TAKE HER
Her lectures are a blurry mess, and exams are nuts—she drags 5 profs to stare, names seats like we're convicts. She'd choke the air out if possible. Cold and harsh, she sank my GPA. Run away!
Lectures were a foggy drone, and exams? She's extra, 5 profs hovering, seats named like a hit list. She'd cut oxygen if she could. I felt dumb, grades tanked. Save yourself skip her!
Her lectures are a quiet wreck, but exams? 5 profs stalking us, seats tagged with names she'd choke the room if possible. Harsh, distant, she killed my chem spark. GPA's toast. Flee!
Ogie's Chem 134 is a disaster. Lectures are a faint mess, but exams? 5 profs staring, seats assigned by name she'd cut the air if she could. No help, just attitude. My GPA and chem dreams? Wrecked. Stay away!
She emailed me saying I will fail the class if I don't drop it even tho I had a C. she is just weird and if you go to her office hours she makes fun of you because you're "asking questions"
she's the worst
I would not take her again at all!!
She needs to learn how to teach students we're paying too much for the grade only not knowledge, because it doesn't exist in um dearborn
she made me cry after every exam thats all I gotta say.
The main reason students go to UNI is because they want to learn but like why they want to set us up for failure instead of helping us succeed. she treat her students on exam days like we're first degree murders!!!
Professor Ogie trying to screw us over instead of helping us out!
SPEECHLESS, IF I COULD ASK FOR REFUND I WOULD. THIS SCHOOL NEED TO REALLY HIRE PROFESSORS
professor ogie might be the worst. please trust me don't take this class.
dont take this class bro save your self take ANY OTHER TEACHER but this specimen
To be honest, she's not the best. Chemistry is hard, but she makes it harder. Exams are tough even if you study the notes and do the Mastering, she words the questions so differently that it's hard to understand what she's asking.also doesn't explain concepts very well. honestly taking a different professor or doing it at another school if you can.
Worst teacher do not take she made me want to run my car into a pole on the way to this class. In drivers ed they teach me how to use a break but when im in the class I just floor at a stop light
I never wore my seatbelt driving to school because I always wished I would die on the way to this class!
You wanna have a life do not take you don't want a life you'll still fail! Just don't take her💀🙏💔🥀
I've never hated and struggled in a class more than Professor Ogie's Chem 134 class. Her exams are nothing like the material she teaches, and her confusing wording makes it worse. Even graduated science majors I know were lost when showing them the problems on the exam. Do yourself a favor DO NOT take this class with her. You'll regret it.
If you don't know how to study you'll struggle in this class. . Attendance isn't mandatory yet there are graded assignments handed out at the end of a lot of lectures. Solid lecturer. Exams sometimes include many topics she barely went over during class. Overall my biggest problems were with the lab but she wasn't my instructor so ill leave it here
A lot of people failed, and I don't blame them. I do well in school, but this was the hardest class I've ever taken. Prof Ogie is straightforward but explains things complicatedly, so you'll have to teach yourself everything. Start studying early and do the study guides, slides exercises, and mastering for exams. But pick another prof if you can.
She actually was a pretty good professor. She gave a lot of practice tests and was very clear on what the tests were gonna include. She was a little fast at teaching but she does make it clear that you should probably look at the slides before class.
Worst proffesor I've ever had, her exams were literally impossible. I would study for weeks and weeks and still wasn't able to pass any exams. Don't take this class with this proffesor if you don't have too. She'll make you hate living. She would count down the seconds on the exam and when I would ask her a question she gave me a rude response.
A very hard class, professor wasn't helpful
The workload was overwhelming and felt designed to make students fail. Between Pearson, lecture homework, and endless slides, it was impossible to know what to focus on. Resources were provided, but the excessive work and lack of direction made it seem like success was expected only through burnout, not understanding. Take someone else.
I am not finished with the course, but it's VERY hard. Dr. Stewart is a very sweet woman who seems to love her job, but the amount of homework is absolutely horrendous. Rn I have mastery chemistry homework which takes over two hours, a worksheet which takes about an hour, and an exam all in the same week, and you have to teach yourself everything.
