any1 else know about this professor ?
New teacher---very helpful. he will come on the weekends and help you and he does practice sessions with you. none the less its a hard class---study!
am currently enrolled.... he seems like a very caring person. he will try to help you as much as he can. make sure you ask questions whenever you get lost.attend to his review, this class is really time consumming but Highly recommended prof..
He is a very good teacher. When you need help, he will help you until you understand. Also, the review sessions help alot. He uses examples that are similar on the tests. I would highly recommend for Organic 1.
HE IS REALLY NICE PROF, I THINK I DIDNOT FIND ANY OTHER PROF THIS HELPFULL, AS PER HIS TEST HIS FIRST SEMESTER HE WAS EASY BUT HE WILL TOUGH FROM NEXT SEMESTER ON, OFCOURSE U GOT TO STUDY BUT MIND IF NEEDED HELP HE IS THERE FOR U. DONT FORGET TO SOLVE ALL THE PRACTICE EXAMS THAT HELPS U ALL ALOT
He is a very helpful teacher. He exams on what he lectures. He has a review session which helps the students prepare for tests. He talks beyond class subjects if you ask him. Ask him abuout his past expereinces. He is awesome and very steady. Nice prof.
Dr Daugulis is very helpful but make sure to pay close attention. Even if u ask a stupid question He will answer it, he is very honest and like everyone else said, Make sure you go to the review sections he gives that are sometimes longer then the lecture. This will definately help you with the exams.
GO TO THE REVIEW SESSIONS! Dr. Daugulis' review sessions helped me so much to prepare for his tests. His lectures can drag a bit, but pay attention. If you space out for even a moment you will get lost.
Very good professor for Organic I! So far he has only taught the class a few times, but will continue. He is an extremely HELPFUL professor and actually wants students to visit him in his office and ask questions. He will spend as much time as necessary to help you with a problem. ALWAYS attend his review sessions and practice. Take him, trust me!
I hardly ever went to class, never went to a single review session. All i did was read the book and show up for tests. I made an A in his class, and always made well above the average on every test. Dont waste your time hoping a professor is gonna teach you Organic Chem, take the initiative and teach yourself. The tests were easy, if you study.
If you sit in his classes and attend his problem solving sessions, you will be fine.
Dr. Daugulis is an excellent prof. OrgChem is easy if u have good instruction & the subject matter is presented to u in a simple and clear manner. Many professors have a hard time relaying this info clearly. Dr. Daugulis is a pro at it. He makes the class fun, & his accent is very easy to understand. like dracula. Smart man, awesome prof!
I took him for orgo 1, and thummel for orgo 2,liked daugulis alot, he teaches at a comfortable pace. However, thummel writes the tests i think.
He is a veryyyyy good professor! He teaches very well, and you can understand him. He made O.chem fun!
heavy accent..but show up to class n study n youll be good..tests arent entirely unpredictable
Awesome professor! Very patient, explains everything in detail during office hours. Flexible office hours! Love him!
Best professor at UH. He is funny, intelligent, extremely helpful. Chemistry is a weak subject for me but as long as you study and attend his practice sessions, you will do well in his class
I really enjoyed the class. He's a very good professor, but Orgo is hard and you have to put in a lot of effort. If you fall behind, you're pretty much screwed. Keep up, do HW, go to class and problem sessions and you'll be fine. He has random quizzes that can help or hurt you by 2 points at most. It's mostly for attendance.
He is a great professor with a good sense of humor. He has an cute accent.
Best Orgo professor at UH. Attend the problem sessions they help. My recommendation is when you take notes, rewrite them immediately after class. They're a good neat review for the days of the tests. Awesome professor!!!
Very helpful professor and gives review sessions every week. Although he was a good professor, the class was still very hard. Expect to take a lot of notes and attend every class. I would definitely recommend him if taking Orgo.
He is extremely nice, smart and very helpful but I had to drop this class because I basically had to teach myself. He doesn't really teach the material, he mostly just reviews the material quickly. He expects us to read the chapters before class. I took Bean and made an A. Dr. Bean teaches better but Dr. Daugulis is nicer than Bean.
He has a bit of an accent, but he explains the material very well and holds helpful review sessions to solidify your understanding of the material. Ochem is a tough class, but he tries to make it bearable.
awesome professor. extremely smart. he just sometimes make copying mistakes here and there. very funny & helpful. write notes on board big & clear & give time for u to write down. i didn't even read the book and did well. recopying notes helped a lot. i went to bean's lecture too. both are good prof. Dagulis is better in my opinion.
Awesome professor, the course material is difficult of course, it's ochem, but Professor Daugulis is extremely smart and helpful. He really wants the students to understand and do well, so he explains things thoroughly. I wish he taught ochem 2!
One of the most amazing professors. He gives a lot of examples in class and his problem sessions are help full!! He has a lot of respect for students and is also very funny. if you do the homework and attend lectures you will get an A.D.
Easy class if you study. Work out the old practice tests and work out as many problems from the book as you can and the tests should be a piece of cake.
It's Organic Chemistry, so you can't expect it to be a walk in the park. With that being said, Professor Olafs makes the class as entertaining as possible and frequently offers himself to help before and after class. Ask questions and come to class!!
Wow, by far, my favorite professor at UH. I never opened my book, and ended up with 100+ average. Go to class, copy his notes, then rewrite it at home. Do some practice tests/problems during his review session, and you'll at least get a B. Remember, this is OChem, so you do have to put in a bit of work into it. :)
His lectures are very thorough. Don't expect that you will do well without a textbook. Whoever says you don't need a textbook probably will not (or did not) do well in orgo 2 (if they do/did take it).
I found a copy of the book online, but never looked at it and got an A on every test. Anyways, awesome professor. Im not saying orgo is easy, you gotta put work into it. Study sesh every week helps a whole lot. Sessions day before the test will have similar problems that he'll on the test.dont miss the pop quizzes. +2% if attend all on final grade.
Loved taking orgo with Prof. Daugulis. Very effective instructor, easy to stay focused on his lectures for an hour and a half, even at the end of the day! His review sessions are also extremely helpful. Tests are very fair. Only complaint is he doesn't give pluses/minuses on semester grades.
Overall, Daugulis is one of the best profs to take for orgo 1, and I wish he taught orgo 2. He really goes out of his way to help students by giving review sessions every week. His tests are fair because he gives you similar problems in the review session the day before the exam. Of course, it's also about the work you put in, so don't slack off.
This guy teaches straight from his notes which are straight from the book. When you ask a question, he rephrases it. He doesn't break down concepts and explain the rationale. If you want a prof who will read the book to you, then this is your man. For a prof who TEACHES concepts, take Bean. Olafs does respond to email, it's just not helpful.
I need a professor who ACTUALLY TEACHES. He doesn''t really explain the concepts. He just writes the notes on the board which is basically the same as the textbook and he just briefly explains. Basically he teaches the material like you already know it and that it''s just a review. I am a straight A student and I got my first C in this class.
I don't like his teaching style. He doesn't actually TEACH. You have to teach yourself. He writes a summarized version of the textbook chapters on the board very fast and just reads it. You can do that at home by reading the chapters. I took Dr. Bean for Orgo 2 & she actually TEACHES. But it's nice of him to do problem review sessions after class.
My advice, skip class from the beginning, yes you lose two percent bonus point and get minus two instead; however, if you use that one hour and 30 to read and study at your own pace, with a good amount of practice that 4 point investment will pay off BIGTIME. I wish I would have done that at start of class.
This class was extremely hard. Professor Daugulis was nice but the material was beyond confusing. Tests are free response and require a lot of studying. It is best to read the textbook before the class lecture. Good luck!
Dr. Daugulis is one of the most helpful and coolest professors. To succeed you must go to class, review notes, seek out help when you need it, and attempt homework problems or practice problems. Try to stay on top of your work and study ahead. Getting an "A" is very possible if you put in the work!
Dr. Olafs is a great teacher! You will learn organic chemistry fast, however I recommending learning it first before taking the class because you will automatically have 1 letter grade advantage because you know what to expect on the test. Don't take laboratory with bean because the tests are beyond confusing and no practice tests are available.
This is the professor to take. Go to class, and you get +2 points to your overall grade, the grading cutoff makes and A around an 86. He provides help sessions after class to the entire class, and often will go over entire practice exams the day before the exam to prepare you, on top of providing you enough past tests to do well.
You must attend lecture or you won't understand what is going on and he gives pop quizzes that count toward your attendance and up to 2 possible extra points. Goes over last years exam the day before the test to help prepare you and post 3 old practice tests. but you MUST study, learn, and understand the chemical reactions and mechanisms.
Dr. O Daugulis is very disrespectful to his students and his exams are not what he covers in class. It is solely based on previous exams. If you study his previous exams more than likely you would make 50% on his test. The other 50% would have to come from whatever knowledge you have of organic chemistry. I do NOT recommend this professor.
His teaching method is very confusing and he is way too fast. Should have taken another Professor. My peers who took Thummel all made A's and I did not -- and we all studied together using the same methods. He is simply a harsh grader. He makes you believe that if you come see him you will be alright, even that does not work.
I took Dr. Daugulis this semester and did not drop because I thought after exam 1 which I scored 72 I would be ok. His notes and lectures help, however when it boils down to the grade I find it not worth even taking. I wish I could have a refund on this course and the C- removed from my transcript. Avoid this professor at all cost!!!
Dr. Olaf is a really interesting professor and is the King of Organic I! DO NOT take this for a credit, you will suffer for it however if you want to learn organic chemistry he is the best professor in the world! He has mastered the subject to the point where his hundred years of teaching is perfect! DON'T take Bean for Lab, she willshet on ur GPA!
He has a slight german accent but explains the material very well. You can get an A if you put effort and use clutch prep. 8 quizzes 2 points on the final grade. 86% is an A, 76% is a B. He is the only organic 1 professor that hold recitation every week after class to help his students. Take him! his tests are the same format every year!
Grade is dependent on 3 exams and final. He drops your lowest non-final exam grade. Critical thinking is involved in this class, not just memorization. If you go in memorizing reactions and mechanisms, you're going to do poorly. Overall, pretty easy class.
Professor Daugulis is an AMAZING person. He really cares for his students and he explains clearly with given examples if you don't understand something. He is very funny and makes the class enjoyable. It's organic chemistry so you gotta work for your grade. 3 hours free response final, toughest thing I've ever done. Got away with an A thanks to him
From all of these comments I have read i was skeptical in talking his class, true it was very difficult but worth it! He does have an accent which can confuse some of his words but it not crazy. final is 50% same as all the other professors, but which stand him apart is that he makes the class fun and oh yea BONUS points on some of his test!!!
Great instructor, gives you a chapter outline for each chapter and then goes through it in class so that you can fill it out during lecture. Leads awesome problem solving sesh once a week: especially day b4 the exam (runs through old test). 3 practice exam b4 each test. quizzes worth 2% of grade (only have to spell your name right 4 credit).
Best Organic Chem Professor at UH ! This is a tough subject and 50 percent of students have to take it twice in order to just pass. read ahead and come to class with questions .do the suggested homework you will have 100 each exams. take chem 3131 with this class unless you want to fail. no short cuts ask him for help from day 1 dont be scared lol
I took this guy 100 years ago for organic 1. He is good, but very difficult material. You WILL suffer if you don't take time out of the summer to study ahead before taking it. Mechanisms are difficult and especially when transitioning to organic 2 you will fail part 2 if you don't know NMR's and about 150 more catalysis reactions.
Great Professor! He provides notes online that you're supposed to fill out with him during class - so attendance is mandatory if you want a good grade since his exams are based on all the notes you will be taking. Make sure you go over them and UNDERSTAND the content. Attend his problem solving sessions and do the HW then its a guaranteed A!
It's actually Dr. Daugulis. But Olafs is easier to say lol. And he's Latvian not German. Learn your mechanisms and synthesis. Don't just memorize them. Orgo is bearable with him.
Honestly, even though he writes every single thing from the outline on the board, its basically a word-to-word copy from the book. Literally, completes sections at once without stopping and explaining concepts in detail. Its basically a race to get the notes down. Awesome bod though.
The only thing for a grade in this class is the tests. There is random pop quizzes. The test are all on paper and on Friday nights only. The teacher writes on a chalkboard for "teaching" he does not use blackboard, it is hard to understand him, and the review sessions he offers do not help you if you don't already know how to work the problems.
Dr. O wants to see you make it but his humor is too harsh for those who can't handle it. First day of class he will read a motivational letter of what chem is like. It's very realistic. Exams are straightforward. Just practice all of the HW. His exams always have 1 or 2 problems pulled from the HW. Don't take Exam 1 lightly. It will cost you the A.
Cares for students. He prints 300+ packets to handout for students each class meeting so that we didnt have to print It on our own. This made it easy to follow along and not try to write chicken scratch and go home to figure out what we drew in preschool that day. Thanks to him, orgo was actually enjoyable because once you get it, you get it.
Organic Chemistry requires you to study on your own, no matter how good your professor is. If you can't deal with that, pick another major. That being said, Olafs is a great professor, and he wants to see you succeed. He provides blank notes, old exams, and study sessions every week. Do your part, and he will do his. Then you will pass. Maybe.
OLAFS IS THE BEST AND FUNNIEST PROFESSOR I EVER HAD FOR OCHEM. He makes ochem easy and fun. He also response to email very fast, accessible out of class and he gives a lot of bonus on tests and final. He gives old tests (up to 3 years before) as practice test for each tests.
He is so hard. I studied and still made a D
Dr. Daugulis is an awesome guy, he makes one of the hardest subjects you can take at the college level somewhat enjoyable. You have to go to class and be prepared to study your ass off if you want a good grade. GO TO THE PROBLEM SESSIONS!!! He always works problems that will be VERY similar to what's gonna be on the exam!
Olafs is better than Bean in my opinion. He gives 3 of his old exams for you to practice and make sure you do all 3 because they are exactly the SAME. Study as much as possible. Olafs is a fun and interesting professor and actually makes Orgo enjoyable. He also gives extra credit on exams.
Olafs is by far the best professor to take for Ochem. He has problem sessions and gives out old tests that match the structure of the test you will take, so there will be no surprise. He gives out quizzes which will help you get extra credit to your final grade. He is funny and I recommend going to his office hours.
This is a very difficult class and the professors style doesn't matter. This subject is deeper than lecture. Olafs is hilarious and quite the character. You must study and practice on your own, do the HW problems, over and over! PRACTICE. LIKE YOUR LIFE DEPENDS ON IT!!!! Once you get it, you're set. Start studying 3 weeks before exams, seriously.
by far one of the best professors iv ever had. organic chemistry is challenging and you will need to work. however he makes his class reasonable he doesn't wast your time with false test reviews, they actually help (still do the HW). hes like the funny and edgy uncle that cares for you but can be serious from time to time, you will enjoy his class.
Olaf is the best science teacher Ive ever had. He prints out notes for students to follow along. He is very accessible outside of class. Attendance isnt mandatory but he gives pop quizzes that add an extra 2 points to your final grade so dont miss class. This class isnt easy but if you actually try you will get a decent grade
Prof. Daugulis is the best kind of professor you will have in college. He is a respectful professor who will only be helpful if you work hard and respect yourself by proper preparation. All you need to do is complete all the practice problems and practice tests. The exams are similar to the practice ones and the final grade consists only of exams
Olafs truly cares for his students and provides us with everything necessary to get an A. Organic is tough- so do your part. Do the homework, attend problem solving sessions if you can. He always has at least one question from the homework on the tests. He also gives 3 years worth of practice tests for you to study with. Great professor!
He is funny and a little grumpy. He is the best chem professor at UH; he cares about his students by answering any questions you have and he even gives pop quizzes which count as extra credit. He gives old versions of his exams to study which are nearly identical to the one he gives you. If you get a B- or better, he offers to write u a rec letter
He teaches one thing in lectures and bring out difficult questions in exams and most time makes mistakes in teaching. He stated that, "He derived joy in people failing ,that if about 300 student that takes the class didn't fail how would they get money to build the medical school". The school failed student for gain financially.
3 midterms (each one 25%, lowest dropped) and 50% for final. 87% or higher for A. Read the textbook BEFORE coming to class. Do the homework and review practice exams (similar to test). Bonus questions on exams but difficult. Extra points for attendance. Responds to emails quickly. Rec letter for B or higher. Funny but will not bump grades.
GO TO CLASS! I almost never went to class and it was a real struggle having to use the textbook to learn all of orgo 1 alone. He prints notes out for you which you fill out as he lectures, which makes studying so much easier. Do all the homework problems and previous exams. Read the textbook too if you can. Attend problem sessions after class.
Great professor, but you really have to work to make a good grade in his class. There is a lot of extra credit if you look for it. If you do the optional homework, practice, and study a lot, you'll get a good grade.
Dr. Olafs is pretty reasonable professor. He gives fill in notes that make it to where you dont need the book. He posts most of his past exams with answers, so you have a good idea what kinds of questions will be on the exam. Grading is kind of tough, but if you go to problem sessions and do suggested homework problems, you should pass.
So this course was now online because of school closing, so most of this review will be bias based on that. This class was self-taught online or in person and it really just depends on if you spend hours on your own to understand it. There is no time to LEARN during class- only take notes. Its a hard class. Study early!!! Or youll regret it
So this course was now online because of school closing, so most of this review will be bias based on that. This class was self-taught online or in person and it really just depends on if you spend hours on your own to understand it. There is no time to LEARN during class- only take notes. This class converted online so it wasn't ideal. 3 tests (50%, 1 dropped) and final (50%). He posts fill in notes to print out for class and also posts previous exams (up to 3 years) with answers. If the class hadn't converted online, in-person tests would've been identical to previous years tests. Prof Olafs was still great and hilarious!
This is the best professor at the University of Houston. His lectures are very clear and he really cares about his student's success in the course. He is organized and his lectures are very helpful, I didn't have to refer to the textbook. He provides many additional practice problems for students to ensure that we understand the topic at hand.
Professor Olaf's tests are a lot more doable than other ochem professors at UH, and he provides plenty of opportunities for extra credit. I managed to pass the class with a 102 by listening to his lectures, attending Thursday problem sessions, doing the homework questions, and going to the SEP workshop. So if you put in the effort, you will pass.
Olafs is probably one of the best science professors Ive had thus far at UH. He doesnt give you fluff in the lectures, everything he teaches you directly pertains to what is on the exam. He sometimes reuses old exam and quiz questions that he gives you in class. Grading curve is fair and extra credit can be earned. Can be a little too blunt tho
OLAFS IS THE PROFESSOR TO TAKE OCHEM. He is maybe one of the best professors in UH overall. His tests are not difficult if you practice using his practice exams and textbook problems. He uses textbook and practice exam problems, and even attendance quizzes for his tests. Has extra credit on exams and curve, and is very accessible through email.
Olafs philosophy is you have to earn an your grade, nothing will be given to you. While harsh, hes definitely the fairest OCHEM professor and he prepares you well for the tests. Hes a really funny guy and attending his lectures are a pretty pleasant experience. 3 tests 2 count for your tests grade (50% of grade) and a final thats 50% of grade.
Professor Olaf is my favorite professor!! You have to put the time in if you want to do good in this class. Textbook hw is not for a grade but it will definitely help you understand the topic and allow more practice. I like how he gives us previous year tests so we can study and practice on also.
After taking ochem with another professor the prior semester, I found that Olafs hybrid class was far better with explaining the material, grading, expectations, and mutual respect. It's not an easy subject but he did his best to make the lectures understandable and entertaining. Far better than I've heard and experienced for ochem at UH. Pick him.
No way around it, orgo is a hard class. Olafs makes it as easy as possible to succeed. His lectures are engaging, and he provides a ton of resources for studying. Don't expect to just show up and get an A; you'll absolutely have to work for it. But attending class, doing the optional homework, and going to the afterschool study sessions help
Be ready to put in the time bc this class is not easy by any means, but the professor explains the material very well. There are 3 midterms with the lowest one dropped and of course the final. There is no graded homework, however, he does have recommended textbook problems that are very useful. Overall the class is challenging but doable.
He's a very fair professor and by far the best orgo professor at UH. He will make you work for your grade so be prepared this class is not easy. He gives you many resources to study for exams along with 3 past exams so you just need to put in the work.
This class is not easy but Olafs is by far the fairest professor out of all of them. He gives you enough study material so that you may succeed in his class but you must put in the work as he will make you work for your grade.
I dare say he's the best organic professor at UH. He is very thorough with material and has a very clear format for his exams, quizzes, and lectures.
My friend & I took him, we dropped & took Bean in the fall and we both preferred her teaching and lectures. Did not cover/emphasize important concepts that are important foundations that Bean went into depth. Went to office hours & told me to quit my job 2 succeed & taking gen chem in community college was a mistake. Jokes on him bc I got an A-!
He hosts after-class problem sessions for questions and he is very quick in responding to questions through email. His practice tests are also a very good resource to do well for tests because they are super accurate. I just think that class time could be better spent by solving and explaining problems rather than copying notes.
This class is a lot of work; no matter who your professor is, you will not pass if you don't work hard for it. Dr. Olafs is an amazing professor and he responds very fast to emails and going to his office hours is the most beneficial of all. He also gives recommendation letters if you make a B- and above. Exams are easy as well.
His test are VERY fair. He will literally add HW problems as test questions and looks for ways to give you points rather than take them away. Exams make up 100% of grade and he drops the lowest test score. He is very fast pace in lectures and if you're like me, you will find yourself copying the notes in class and learning after class.
Overall the lectures are useless. Just do previous practice exams and you will do great.
Professor Olafs was by far the best professor I have had so far at UH. He held problem sessions every Thursday after class and the Thursday before the exam he would go over the previous years test. He even held a problem session over spring break. Office hours are also extremely useful and I would highly recommend utilizing them. 100% test based.
A fantastic professor overall and easily the best professor at UH. If you put in the work, you will get an A in his class.
Great Professor! Do many practice problems using the exams he gives you and attend the practice problem sessions! He explains how to do the problems in an easy to understand format.
This class will be hard no matter what, but for someone who barely passed gen chem II, didn't go to office hours, and studied alone, I was able to pass this class on my first attempt surprisingly. His lectures are very detailed and open to questions. A GREAT professor of organic chemistry. Plus he drops one of the three exam grades!! final is 40%!
Olafs' class is tough, but he provides plenty of resources to succeed. Attend lectures, do textbook problems, and use unstuck AI for extra practice - it really helps. Challenging, but worth it for the great learning experience.
Lectures were not very helpful. Learned most of the material from YouTube but I came here to leave a review about one of the lab TA's since he doesn't have a RMP; Ayuun Nishat Farabi is the worst lab TA you will have. I hated his lab so much, I never wore my seatbelt while driving to school because I wanted to die before making it to that lab.
Olaf is good, I came to leave a review about one of the lab TA's. Without exaggerating, Ayuun Nishat Farabi is the worst TA to ever walk the face of this earth. He is consistently rude, condescending, and hostile. His instructions are inconsistent as well. I would rather work 16 hours of unpaid labor at an oil rig than be in a lab with him again
The class is doable you just have to give it the time and attention that it needs outside of lecture. The lab on the other hand is an actual h3ll. My TA was completely useless, rude most of the time, and makes up policy as he goes instead of going by the syllabus. If you get Aynun Nishat Farabi just drop the lab hope there is another opening.
Dr Olaf is very straightforward in his exams. Expectations are clearly laid out. He definitely made a "hard" class feel easy. He also writes a letter of recommendation for those who do well. I would definitely recommend him to anyone who can take him
Dr. Olafs is a great professor. I think he is rather old-fashioned, but that works to his benefit. He gives lecture notes to fill out while he writes on the board. He explains things well, and his office hours are extremely fun. Review sessions every Thursday as well. His exams are decently hard, but he gives a lot of resources to succeed.
I thought I was the only one that felt that way about Farabi lol but Olaf is a great professor
Enroll in workshop ASAP! No hw, just attendance and TONS of tips from students who made an A! And GO TO OFFICE HOURS! Unlike some professors who are plain rude, Olafs is very chill. If it helps encourage you, go with friends! He genuinely wants you to do well, and working through problems with him and getting feedback is what got me a RL and an A.
I absolutely hated gen chem and had so much anxiety for this course, but olafs is truly the best professor i've had. I would say skim over the textbook or watch some videos before lecture, when I didnt do that I would be mindlessly writing and would have so much trouble understanding. The practice tests and problem solving sessions helped so much.
Amazing experience. Ochem is hard no matter the who's or the where's. Didn't think I'd get an A, but I did work hard. Do all the HW's he lists out, GO TO LECTURE!! Skim txtbk beforehand, PRACTICE. Didn't need SEP workshop. I was surprised to be leaving class actually learning something then worrying about teaching everything to myself at home.
40% final, 60% highest 2/3 exams, u have to show up to class if u want to do well. he gives old exams to practice with (MUST DO!!), always available and excited to help, will give additional help and problems if u attend office hours, and is a lenient grader. ppl who struggled in this class don't know how to manage their time and study effectively
He gives many practice exams for each exam that help a lot. I only went to class a few times, it's very helpful if u can keep up, but i relied mostly on self study. I started learning with youtube, then I attended recitations and LAUNCH review sessions, I'd go to office hours for specific questions and he'd give me practice problems, helped a ton!
