He tries to make the class really easy but then one test will be all multiple choice and the next will be all free answer so you never know how to study, otherwise he's really a pretty good teacher.

great guy, very nice and funny. i'm horrible at math so i didn't do very well but he would explain thing in class until people understood. tests aren't too hard if you put in minimum effort to study.

He is very good guy. Though his english is a little different and not influent as an native american he is very helpful and persevering in teaching even very basic concepts.

possibly the BEST prof I've ever had at ISU. He knows his stuff and more. He drops the lowest test, quizzes from the HW problems, gives bonus points here and there. He goes out of his way to help you. Most profs spend 10 mins of their office hours and say you think about this and comeback later. This guy literally tutors you if you need it.

Nice, polite, and funny. Knows a lot about stats, and gives good terminology for each definitition and topic. I didnt like the examples he used in class because they were too basic compared to what was on the test. I also had no idea what was going to be on the test cuz he didnt give out any homework or collect anything. He gives lots of xtracredit

You can only appreciate Ackman if you take Gamage's class. I flunked Ackmans course. Next semester I took it with Gamage. It was such a disaster. I never thought I'd praise a teacher who flunked me but Ackman is a great guy, fantastic teacher. If you fail his class, its prolly you mistake not his.

Dr. Ackman is one of the best profs Ive ever had. He knows enormous amount of stuff. When you ask him a question he gives much wider answers than you can get from the book. i took 350 from jina gamage last semester. taking it again from akman. the difference between 2 of them is like difference between hell and heaven. akman is far better prof than gamage he is more approavble he knows much more stats than gamage he is more understandable If you can wait to take a stat course from akman then wait He is the best

clearly he is master of his domain. His wit, knowledge and treatment of students is superb. Sometimes he cracks such intelligent jokes that most people don't get them or take a few seconds before they start laffing. I rate him 9 out of 10 where 1 is someone like dr. Gina Gamage and 10 is what Paris Hilton would've gotten if she taught stats :)

He is very systematic which helps you understand the whole process while he is proving a thm or something. What I love about him is he always starts with wrapping up what was covered in class the day before. This way you connect the new stuff to the past ones. He shows different examples than the ones in the book. Overall he is one of the best!!!

Dr. Ackman is the best teacher to take any hard upper level stat course from. He breaks down difficult concepts into easy to understand parts. Then at the end connects them together beautifully. Some people say he is a hard teacher but that's because the material is hard. His test questions come directly from the book. What else can you ask for?

I took stats at a community college, at UIUC and at ISU from all sorts of different profs. Ackman was the best stat prof Ive had. He explains stuff well, his tests relate to lecture notes. If you do hw regularly you'll be set. He is helpful always. He has a very warm personality, puts you at ease with him. What makes him sexy is his funny wit.

my favorite teacher at ISU. He teaches stuff so enjoyable that I even skipped breakfasts to make it to his classes at times. Unlike old profs, he actually keeps up with research, so you are more likely to learn new new stuff which come in handy when you go out there looking for a job. I highly recommend his classes.

His ratings go as far back as 2003, I know of other profs w/ more ratings in shorter time than that. Besides the styles look very different to me. Why am I disputing the previous rating? because I think he is pretty darn good. Grad level stochastic process course. This is a tough class but he strikes a good balance between the theory and applications. I highly recommend Dr. Ackman to others. He was understanding and very helpful every time I needed help.

I took summer class MAT 150 from Dr. Ackman. Completely online class, so the burden is on you to learn the material. You need to teach yourself. dr. Ackman was very patient, understanding and extremely helpful with my pc problems. I thought he did a great job managing the ins and outs of the class. Online summer classes are not for everyone though.

There are 4 stat profs in the dept. Dr. Akman is the best one. Other profs have ratings in the 1-2 region. Akman has better social skills too. His sense of humor shows how smart he is. You can learn a lot from him. He cares alot. Just be respectful. I think he is great.

He taught this class for education majors and had an approach to it so that we would actually understand what we were doing. I liked that part but he terrible untimely on returning anything and get's snappy with us when we expect something on the date he said he'd give it back. Just another example of the type of math professors at ISU.

He did a great job. He was very patient with us. He put a lot of time into the education side of the class. When he realized we were having hard time with content he allowed formula sheets, gave mock tests, and gave bonus points made sure we succeeded. Online class but the way its set up is different than other online classes. You can't submit HW until it is perfectly done. So it kinda forces you to learn the material. It is easy to mess up or miss deadlines, but Akman is extremely understanding and very helpful. When you talk to him you can tell he actually cares and respects you. Cool dude !

The best class I've taken at ISU by far. This is grad level regression course. Akman covered artifical intelligent mthods and genetic algorithms. No other teacher can even come close to his quality. I learned so much. I'm actuarial sci. major. What I learned here will be very handy. He is the best teacher ever, by far. Take whatever he teaches.

I took three classes (2 different courses, I had to repeat one) from Akman. Very strong lecturer and often encourage discussion to better understand material. Expectations on exams can be difficult for students so avoid preparing based on pre-exam study guides that he gives you. He even started saying, "it's only a guide. Don't JUST study the study guide." Overall, great class for Regression and neural networks.

One of the best profs. He doesn't do any gotcha stuff other teachers do. He just focuses on you learning. He doesn't move on to the next chapter until he is sure everybody gets it. Examples he solves in his lectures show up as test questions so if you pay attention you can ace pretty much all his exams. He is fun to chat with on other stuff also.

This is my fav class. I Highly recommend Ackman. His lectures are awesome. He pauses every now n then allowing ppl to catch up or think bout questions. When u ask him something he goes over n beyond explaining in different ways so everybody understands. He always acts very humble. He thanks ppl for their time after each class. He geniuenly cares.

Akman makes you feel like your father is the teacher. He is very caring. Goes out of his way to help always. He works on COVID so he is featured all over on TV radio newspapers just like Fauci but he is very humble about it. He is the most effective teacher for online courses. He uses WebAssign which makes the class very easy. I truly love him.

Stats was my worst subject. The only class my roommate got a C was stats and she is a 4.00 student. So I was pretty scared when I registered for Akman's section. It turned out to be my best class ever. The way he teaches is amazing. When you don't understand something he invents new examples on the run to explain stuff. In person he is very cool.

By far he is the best prof in math He is an excellent teacher, very caring guy. Overall very cool. He helps you in ways that nobody else in the math dept even comes close to. He knows more about COVID than doctors. He published lotsa papers on that. His sense of humor is the best. Take his class you will be glad you did. Be respectful you'll be OK.

Lectured well during class time and was very clear on what would be on tests. He also answered my questions every time I went to his office hours quickly and easily.

Overall the best prof ever. His lectures are well organized to the point and informative. His tests are relevant to what he covers and hw he assigns. He is very kind caring and helpful. All around he is textbook exampe of how an educator should be. He is famous but very humble. A true gentleman and scholar. Highly recommended. I loved his class.

Akmans lectures are carefully thought out well organized clear easy to understand. He assigns hw and later asks hw on midterms. You get to double dip in a way. if you do the hw yourself you get hw points and ace his tests also. I agree with other people here He is very kind. He speaks with you respectfully. Always helpful. Dr. Olcay is a great teacher. His class made me like working on probabilities and statistics. If you go to class, pay attention, and ask questions, and also do your homework and book problems, you'll do well in the course.

He is one of the best profs here. After I took his stats class, I decided to change my major to statistics. I am hoping to get my master's working with him. He explains everything very well. Breaks down hard concepts into easy to understand smaller pieces. He is very caring. I wish he taught more classes that I could take. A five-star teacher.

He is pretty good. His lectures had PowerPoint slides and videos of proofs being worked out line by line. So if you missed any part of it in class you could watch it over until you get it. He used the same book that an online Penn State class uses. If you missed anything in his lectures you could review there. I loved his style. Very caring too.

An excellent teacher overall. Knowledgeable, kind, caring, respectful, helpful, funny, smart, handsome, patient, energetic, dedicated, and prompt. Although I didn't get a good grade I still loved his class. it was totally my fault. He tried his best to help. It's on me. He won't increase your grade because you had a flat tire but will help you.

Professor Akman is a supportive teacher, offering ample opportunities to improve grades. Thoughtful weekly quizzes prepare you well for exams. Regular office hours provide helpful assistance. Online+in-person hybrid format with problem sessions conducted by his assistant was a big plus. He is a brilliant caring and generous teacher. A+

Take his class. He lectures first and assigns hw.from what he covered. Then you get a weekly quiz on the hw questions you already worked on. Then those quizzes become midterms. Basically you really have to try hard to fail his class. Correction, you really have to try hard not to get an A. His lectures are excellent. You can actually learn a lot.

MAT 252 is a welcome change from all other classes offered in math Dr Akman is very helpful accommodating and understanding I wish he taught all of our courses He set up the class with his students benefits in mind. He is very funny too so that helps in easing you to learn harder topics I'd say he is one of the best teachers in the department

Oclay is a great guy. If you ask him for help he will respond and offer a zoom to help you. Really cares for his students. Struggled the beginning of the class and asked for his help and my last two tests were an A and a B. He even reached out to me to root for me to pass his class. Definitely recommend Oclay!!!!!

Dr Olcay is simply the best. He has some bad reviews because he hadn't increase someone' grade because this person was having a rough day!! Someone else says Olcay doesn't have wiggle room on grading or doesn't give extra credit. Get real people. Everything you are saying to make him look bad actually shows what a great professor Dr. Olcay is.

Akman has designed an excellent online course. Everything is crystal clear, logical, and reasonable. Class is self supportive and straightforward. He provides 100% support with the online material. He is a 5-star professor teaching a 5-star class. If Akman is teaching a class that other profs are also teaching others sections, take it from him.

He is great very student friendly understanding and patient. He offered me a makeup test without requiring 200 pages thick medical proof. There was a typo in his syllabus the next day he sent out a hillariously funny correction. You can tell how enjoys teaching mathematics. He is very good explaning hard concepts in simple terms. Highly recommended

Olcay has everyhting you need in a good professor. He teaches very well, patient, understanding, caring and generous in grading. He tolerates oddities better than some of my other teachers. He knows his stuff so he can explain difficult concepts in different ways breaking down into easy to understand pieces. He is fun smart and witty. Pleasant guy.

Olcay is a caring professor who offers ample support, though the class can be challenging. Weekly quizzes help with exam prep. unstuckstudy proved useful for studying alongside the textbook. Overall, a solid learning experience.

This isn't an easy A class but the amount of support Dr Akman provides makes it an easy A class He explains everything well and he is very patient with you. Just be respectful when you talk to him and be professional in your emails. I'll look for what other classes Akman is teaching before I register next semester.I recommendation him without doubt

Zoom lectures were entirely optional and functioned as office hours. Textbook explains things well and you can teach yourself everything at a moderate pace. Assignment grading is extremely lenient. I submitted most assignments a day late because the penalty was only 1%. Allowed progressively larger cheat sheets on midterms, no cumulative final.

A great professor and an amazing human in every sense. Very patient and understanding. Looking back some of my emails to him, I so appreciate how he handled my issues with a cool head. Honestly, if I had received the emails I sent him from my students, I would of removed them from my roster in a heartbeat. 5 starts, 100%.

Dr. Akman is pretty reasonable. This class is so easy because the homework is virtually identical to the exams which make up the majority of your grade. He allows cheat sheets and the content of the course is not terrible. It is entriely self taught and they have open available office hours built into your schedule at class meeting times.

I love this guy. He is a custommade perfect teacher. He is very relaxed and caring. He knows amazing stuff way more than he teaches and shares them with us to make the class more relatable and interesting. What I loved the most about him was he didn't let everyday problems get in the way. He doesn't punish you for missing a test b/c you were sick.

One of the best profs at ISU. He has a very kind heart. He truly cares about you. He bends over backwards to help if you reach out to him. Take his class. You won't be disappointed and you will learn a lot.

This professor is so good. Our class was done via Aleks. The expectations were so clear, the professor went over the material in class, and all you were graded on is half the homework and half the exams. The only con of this course is that the professor teaches the material so early, so the exam's cover cotent mentioned months prior.

Perfect class if you have alot of credit jammed into ur semester Its asynchronous online course but AI helps you along the way There are weekly modules If you work 20-30 mins a day you can get thru them easily If you leave them all to the last minute it will take longer (like the last review guy must have done) Professor is super nice and helpful
