Great Prof! Relates material to things you can understand. Goes over problems like the ones on the exam. Easy to get a good grade!
Great class! I hated acc in undergrad, but I learned a lot and had a wonderful time learning. (Sexy too!)
This class is really easy to get a good grade in. If you turn in all the assignments you get full credit. Goes over all the problems in class. However, if you actually want to understand what you're doing, you won't get that in this class. It was all just memorization.
he doesn't know how to teach. he spends to much time trying to be a good teacher, and doesn't pull it off. if you do the assignments exactly right you'll be fine, but bad teacher.
This class is set up exactly as his 311 class. He is a goof ball that tries to make it interesting. Do the homework (all of it) and it will help you out.
To do well in this class 1) Take it right after ACC 211. It makes a big difference 2) Actually complete all assigned homework. The test problems are similar 3) Review old exams prior to the comp final. This cannot be overemphasized. The class moves fast and you have to keep up to do well.
Class went very fast. Got A's in 201 and 211, will end with C here. Homework overly complicated and demoralizing. When he "clarifies" he just confuses. Hammonds subbed one day and I did good on that one test. Greer is just confusing. Avoid if possible.
Just because you're an accountant doesn't mean that you're a good professor. He's inconsistent, confusing and makes things so much more difficult than they need to be. He likes to tell crazy stories about deer hunting and as soon as you tune him out, he talks about ACC again.
The tests can be tricky (all multiple choice), but overall he makes it very easy to get an A in this class. I enjoyed accounting more than I thought I would.
Good class and good teacher. Very interested in making sure students can relate topic to real world. Fan for IMA. Final is problems from previous tests with just the numbers changed and he gives you opportunities to look over the keys to those tests before taking final. Likes his students and wants them to do well. Points for attendance.
Don't take him. Very hard class seriously..
First off make sure you to go to class thats an easy 20 points. Clicker quizes are also easy points, as well as online homework. Nice professor who is willing to help. Tests are tough but manigable if you study the online homework examples. His final is problems off old exams with different numbers, so its easy to pull an A on. Not a bad class
Nice guy but cannot explain things like a teacher can. This is a teach-yourself class. Not to mention he'll waste your time rambling on about HIS political views. I wouldn't recommend him, but there aren't many choices.
Nice guy but cannot explain things like a teacher should. This is a teach-yourself class. Not to mention he'll waste your time rambling on about HIS political views. I wouldn't recommend him, but there aren't many choices.
I took his big lecture class. It's horrible. When you pay attention, he drones on and ends up confusing you. His lectures aren't the best, certainly not preparing you for the test. LOTS of online homework. He is really nice and helpful, though, even if he can't explain things well.
Its a Teach yourself class, he knows his stuff but can't explain it. Grade wise its pretty easy 20 ExCred points for attendance, 20 Online EC points, 150 easy online HW. 4 tests and a comph final. Study the problems he assigns and the definitions and you will b ok. He is really nice but I would suggest someone else.
hard teacher. we had 4 tests and i got an A, 2 Bs and a D. he is terrible at teaching. unless u can teach it to yourself , dont take him. he is a big D-bag also. huge loser. doesnt do anything to help you. dont take him unless you absolutley hvae to...good luck
Greer is not the greatest teachers. I spent a lot more time teaching myself. He is a very nice and respectable guy. The tests aren't that hard. Make sure you don't miss class since each time you do you lose 5 points (you start going negative on attendance after 4 absences). I would definitely take Greer again if I needed to.
Don't take him unless you have no other choice. His GA can teach better than he can and he'll go off on tangents and stories that have NOTHING to do with accounting. Today he explained to us why the estate and death taxes are bad and should be abolished which then turned into a rant about policticians.
This professor consistently used a flawed sense of humor and made weird sound effects when changing presentation slides. Hard to comprehend oftentimes
He rambles a lot about how the text book is wrong and what it would be like in the real world, non of which actually helps you understand the information better. If he stayed on point he could be a good teacher. Tests can be tricky. Final is just like the tests.
Felt like I was teaching the class to myself the whole semester. In a class of 175 students, accounting may be tough to get across to everyone attending, but his wild tangents about estate taxes and why the textbook is wrong did nothing to help me understand the material on exams. DO NOT RECOMMEND
He doesn't really make a lot of sense when teaching. His GA was a much better teacher. He goes off on random rants, and his tests dont have a lot to do with what he talks about. DO NOT TAKE HIM
Impossible to get an A in his class, tests averaged around 60-75% for our median and it was a class of about 200. Not clear when discussing material, I basically had to teach myself the chapters. Impossible to get an A in the test until he curves it. Take with someone else!
He talks too fast.
Impossible to pay attention during class. Just runs through the power points and does not explain any of the notes. Take another teacher!!
AWFUL PROFESSOR...PREACHED MORE ABOUT JESUS THAN HE DID ACCOUNTING. VERY ANNOYING WHEN I HAVE "MAKE SURE TO GIVE THANKS TO YOUR CREATOR" AND "REMEMBER, JESUS IS THE REASON FOR THE SEASON" WRITTEN ALL OVER MY SYLLABUS. PATHETIC
Do not take Greer. He does not teach the materials and just uses the key that the book provides to show you how to work problems. Cares more about his American flag tie then the students he teaches. Goes too fast and does not answer student questions. TAKE ANOTHER TEACHER!!!
Aweseome professor, he really cares about the students. He's very by the book, but will help you after class if you need it.
This professor requires you to be in class because he does clicker questions and clicker assignments. I took him 2 or 3 years ago and got a B. Definitely had to work for it. He has since changed his teaching style and is harder to understand. Be very careful and diligent if you take him!
I found him to be very difficult, especially in a class with 150+. He went through everything quickly, and I felt like he expected you to know everything prior to being in his class. Online homework kinda helps, but still a difficult class to succeed in. Attendance is kept track of & clicker questions help get you much needed points.
I liked Greer; he was very professional. If you actually read before lecture, you will get a lot from the class. You can?t expect to just show up and grasp the concepts immediately. You actually have to do the work before-hand, Greer's accounting class, or any other. Also, I love the his patriotism. I think more professors should be that way.
Sitting in his class right now and I'll I can think of is how bad of a teacher he is. I feel like he knows the material but has NO idea on how to teach to people who are just learning the material. I compare him to a grandpa who just rambles on about accounting. Worst part he takes off points if we leave early. Gonna be a long semester!
Worst teacher I've taken at mo state.
Do not take Greer. Covers material way to fast to even comprehend problems. Tests were nearly next to impossible. Knows a lot about accounting but just can't teach it very well. I couldn't understand anything.
This was the worst professor I've experienced at MSU. Rambles through lectures and gets off topic. Uses so many filler words, uh, um, throat clear, that by the time he speaks for 30 minutes you've gotten about 5 minutes of actual information. More confusing than helpful. Homework will NOT help with tests, do the learn-smart modules on Connect.
Ineffective instructor. Class size too large. Inadequate learning resources, homework assignments have low relevance to test format. Poor review for exams. Steer clear of this instructor if possible.
Do NOT take this professor. I'm a senior now an this is the first time I've felt I should rate a professor and warn other students. Attendance is taken and clicker points are everyday so If you miss a couple days your in the hole. Take anyone but him! I'm retaking ACC 211 because of this guy. Take Anita Brand!!
This is by far the worst accounting professor you can take. He's a nice guy but does not know how to teach. The tests are almost impossible to pass and he takes attendance as well. He will count off if you've missed more than a couple days. Also will count off if you leave class early.
I loved Greer. This was my second class with him and he couldn't have been any better. I'm about to take my third masters class with him. As long as you are a medium student, you won't have any issues with the work. If you just want to blow off college, maybe you should drop out and stop whining about teachers giving points to attend class.
Many many students complain to him. I agree that he does not how to teach, but it is easy to get an A. You need to read your text book well or you will get a C or something. You also can get lots of extra credits!!!
Here are the highlights: If you go to class every time, do your homework 100%, and take good notes...you can get a whole letter grade higher than your test grades! He is not organized by any means, but he gives you plenty of chances to ask questions and get the material down. Opportunity for extra credit helps a lot!
just terrible do not take this class
Worst teacher I have ever encountered in college. Doesn't give out study guides, gets side tracked with stories during lecture, and just rambles all class
Greer is the worst teacher I have had at MSU. He will show you how to do something, show you how he does it and then continues the lessons his way, then you have to take the test using the way in the book. The PowerPoints are useless seeing as he never uses the information on them and he doesn't give out study guides either. Avoid, avoid, avoid.
Horrible. Not very good at explaining anything, you will be lost within 10 minutes into the lecture. Mandatory attendance; you will lose 5 points each day gone. Tests aren't really tailored to the homework.
Greer doesn't know how to teach to beginning accounting students. Constantly acts like we're all experts. Spent most of his time trying to convince us all to become accounting majors. Dropped his class this semester, and I have to retake it with him in the fall. I'll know better next time.
Made D's on the first 2 exams,C on the 3rd, B on the 4th +final, and expecting a B for grade since final exam replaces lowest score. Been tough, you have to learn to teach yourself. Don't need to read book but at least run through powerpoint prior to class and make sure you know the formula's by heart. Class will then make 70% more sense. Good luck
We spent 40 minutes discussing how to use a clicker.
Dr Greer was a good teacher. Accounting is not my thing at all and I have always struggled to pay attention in those classes. I think he made it about as good as it could get. I would take another course of his easily. He is fair and knows how to make you succeed.
The class is passable, but I literally taught myself everything. I'm in the 230 person class and he just can't handle it. He has no idea how to reach us and there is so much material it's hard to know it all. He really just needs to focus more on getting through to his students and helping them understand. GO TO CLASS. Bring your laptop
Awful. Negative points after 4 skips. Gets off topic all the time, and as a result skips crucial parts of his lecture. TESTS ARE NOT BUILT AROUND HIS LECTURE. He teaches one way, tests present it another. Had to teach myself the material before each test, so read the book. Only plus about his class, pretty forgiving gradings system. Try and avoid.
This is the worst class in the world to have to sit through & attendance is mandatory. However, if you do your homeworkread during the class periods it isn't too terribly inefficient. The tests are tough -- you have to self-teach 100%. Clicker points can add tons of extra credit. It's not hard to get a good grade but it IS hard to learn from him.
I could go into detail but I'm not. Don't take the class, you'll just end up dropping
By far one of the worst professors I've ever had. Lectured about one thing and when the test came is was a foreign language. You can do bad on the text because there are plenty of points, but he is a terrible teacher with a great heart.
When listening to the professor I often found my self confused. Rambles on for a while about a topic then tells you the textbook is wrong and in the real world it is done a different way. He does not use any of his own material though so he has your study off the textbook. Difficult to know what to study.
Attendance is mandatory to the point he will subtract points from your other grades after multiple absences. The problem with that is that he is a horrible teacher. He rambles, tell you the book is wrong, and can't clarify for students. So I used class time to do homework. I had to teach myself everything because he is unreliable.
Very nice person. However.. His lectures are borderline unbearable. Even worse, you can't skip b/c skipping lowers grade. His lectures aren't helpful for the test. Great student & almost failed all of his tests. Test trick questions & presents the questions differently than in the HW. Pro: You can get Cs on test & HW can raise grade to a B.
Dr. Greer is a great person, and a great storyteller, but he isn't so clear when it comes to teaching. He's taught for so many years that he remembers old versions of the textbooks and tells you to pretend the book said something like the old one. Lectures are LONG and very dry. But if you don't pay attention, you're in trouble. Stay on top of it.
Dr. Greer is a very nice guy, but he's not a good professor. Lectures are boring and dry. When you are able to pay attention, he goes off on rants about how the textbook is wrong. Tells random stories about unrelated material. Every missed class is 5 points off your graded (can even get negative points). Clicker points will save your life.
I was able to teach myself all the information without textbook, or listening to lectures. Clicker points and homework are easy ways to bring up your grade. Tests are difficult, and Greer doesn't give you any helpful information for exams besides how many questions will be from each chapter. Participation is 100% necessary. Study groups help.
He is terrible at teaching and not efficient with the student's time. He also throws out trick questions on his tests and his clicker questions. His speaking is a boring, slow ramble about how to compute absorption costings, etc. If you like wasting your time or are gifted at accounting in general, then this class is for you.
Homework may be for a grade, but it will not help you out on exams. Messes up on almost every in class example, then rambles on how the book is wrong and how it really is in the real world. No fun
He is a good person, but he doesn't prepare us for the tests. His lectures will feature a topic heavily that will not even be mentioned on the test. Hard to know what to study. He does give us a break-down of how many Q's come from each chapter but other than that you are on your own. He is easy to get ahold of outside of class if you have Q's
Not clear at all, I attended every class and took notes. Got a D in the class, and learned nothing. Please find a different teacher! *Also shows his unsolicited hunting pictures in class on a giant projector*
Lectures are boring and dry. But clicker questions and homework will save your grade. He curves test (by a lot) but tests are pretty tricky if you don't know the material. Go to his office hours if you are struggling because he will help and review the tests as much as possible for the final. Good Luck.
By far the worst professor I have ever had. I tend to not agree with some of the other comments on other teachers, but I have to on this one! He isn't a teacher. You literally have to teach yourself like everyone has said. Is he nice? Yes. Does he have a lot of experience? Yes. Is he the worst when it comes to teaching? ABSOLUTLEY.
Extremely difficult tests that are hard to study for. Pretty sure the average on the last test in my class was a 52% (after the curve.) Do yourself a favor and take a different professor if possible.
I strongly recommend that if you see him as your professor you should drop immediately. By far the worst professor I have ever encountered in the 3 years I have been here. He never gives examples on how formulas should be used. You will have better luck taking this class online. His test are also extremely difficult and you'll never be prepared.
Not as bad as people make it sound. Yes, he's a very boring lecturer. No, he does not give good study guides. Class is mandatory but it'll only help your grade. If you go to most classes and do okay on the clicker questions you'll end up getting quite a bit of ec. HW is time consuming but easy. Just study his ppt online and watch netflix in class
He never clearly talks about everything you need to know during lectures. He skips over majority of content because "we should already know it." Cracks jokes for majority of the time, never stays on topic. Doesn't prepare you for any of the tests whatsoever. DON'T EVER TAKE HIM. You basically have to teach yourself the content.
This professor reads off his slides. If you don't want to go to class, you do not have to. Although, he does use clickers in a class of 250 students. The homework is online and he allows unlimited attempts. The tests are very difficult and do not have any resemblance to the homework or notes. I do not recommend this horrible professor.
Dr Greer is nice but hes just not a very good teacher. In class he either reads off the PowerPoint slides, goes over the homework problems, or tells a story for 20 minutes until he realizes class is almost done. Then he crams for the last 10 minutes. His study guides are useless and his tests are full of difficult questions and gotchas.
The class content overall is not that bad but can be difficult at times especially since he is not very good at explaining a lot of things. Attendance isn't mandatory but has clicker questions every class that are worth points. He is not a very good lecturer so be prepared to read a lot if you actually want to understand it. Also, lots of homework
Hes not good. Simple as that. His tests make up 60% of the class points and theyre very hard. Would not recommend.
Grading scale is set up to where if you do horrible/decent on the test and good on everything else you will be fine. Struggled with accounting before but did well in this course. His lectures are kind of boring and can tend to get off track, but showing up is important for answering clicker questions for points.
Too much homework without a consistent schedule for it. incredibly boring in class, never stays on topic and doesn't clearly explain information. complains about the book too much. This class would be easier and would save so much time if you took it online.
He's a very nice man but he really doesn't teach and gets off topic easily. You're pretty much learning on your own. The only thing I found useful about going to class was getting participation points and he goes through the homework. He does offer lots of extra credit which is very helpful.
This class is very boring, and not helpful at all. Nobody is lying on here. He is a great guy but he can't teach for anything. His tests are annoying and have topics you never even covered. Homework multiple times a week. Would recommend trying to take another professor. Struggling to get a B.
Olen Greer is a good guy but lacks teaching ability. The point system for the course is beneficial for the student, but tests are relatively difficult. Greer has boring lectures that ultimately are not that helpful. Managerial Accounting is already difficult, and he does not make it any easier.
The lectures include participation points and he goes over homework. The exams are about the homework and he generously curves grades. He is extremely helpful. He gets off topic a lot. I recommend the bear claw, GA hours, and meeting with him to get an A. If you put in the work you will do fine. Due dates are important.
Nice guy who gives a lot of extra credit and curves tests. However, the exams are very difficult, there is an insane amount of homework, and it's very hard to pay attention to the lectures, which are mandatory. He gives a lot of extra credit through Cengage that gets added to the homework, but by the end of the semester, it'll hardly affect it.
One of the worst teachers I've had at MSU, doesn't make any effort to help students, homework is impossible, tests are crazy hard. I got an A- in ACC201 and I might fail Olen's class
He's an okay guy as a person but would never take him again. His tests are hard and you don't get a formula/cheat sheet. He makes his lectures mandatory which wouldn't be bad for tests, but he gets off on tangents every class period and takes 30 min to talk about what needed 5 minutes. Rambles about athletics for 10 min. every class.
Greer is a decent choice for this class. His tests are pretty hard and he doesnt allow note cards for any formulas for tests (you will need to memorize a lot of formulas). He does give out a lot of attendance points through clicker questions, but once you get 50 correct the rest are extra credit. Hw is very easy with unlimited check my works.
Nice guy. You have to go to class to get participation points. Does not let you use a note card with formulas on the test compared to other accounting teachers. Curves every test BUT THE FINAL. This class literally made me change my major from business to psychology.
Olen is the worst business professor I have had at MSU. He does not add anything to the classroom and might as well have his GAs do the teaching. He goes off on rants that don't add anything to the lecture and tries to be funny with terrible dad jokes. You will have to work for every point of your grade and teach yourself the material.
Greer is a great guy and he truly cares about what he's teaching and that you're learning something. That said, this class is really what you put into it. I had a friend that barely made a D in the class and another that only needed a 40% on the final to keep his A. The tests are insane but he has a forgiving grading system and gives extra credit.
Take ACC 211 with another professor if you want to learn. He makes class so difficult and always tries to crack silly jokes that aren't funny. Worst professor I have ever had. He does not teach during class, he just reads off his power points. Basically it is a teach it yourself class in my opinion.
Every class is summed up with him going on a pointless rant or story, his teaching style is miserable, and power points are extremely hard to understand. Just showed up for participation points, and would teach the material to myself outside of class. Worked EXTREMELY hard for a C. Do not take this class.
Olen is a great man on a personal level but is an awful instructor that needs immediate removal from all academic instruction. Always gets off topic during lectures, purposely makes exams extremely hard and forces students to memorize unnecessary concepts. Fought for my life to earn a B, if you care about your stress levels and GPA, AVOID!
Greer is hands down the worst teacher I have ever had. Nothing that he says in class makes sense or is even relevant half the time. Managerial accounting is difficult enough and he makes it even hard. he is the only teacher of this course that does not allow you to use a formula note card on the test. Also his lectures are 200+ people so good luck.
This man is the sole reason that I switched majors away from accounting. He should not be allowed to teach such an important course to such a large amount of students. He is flat out awful.
Nice guy. That's about it. Gives a bunch of homework online that is semi-helpful, but then makes test questions different and confusing. You can go into a test knowing all relevant info and equations and still feel lost. Gotta really push to get a B but it's possible. Lectures are worthless.
His teaching methods are not helpful. Each exam covers 3 or more chapters in which we have to memorize equations because theyre not provided on the exams. He doesnt give study material or practice exams to help. The class is way too big to function (almost 300 students). We are required to go to unnecessary campus events. Horrible teacher!
Terrible. Do. Not. Take. Trust me on this one.... Unless you are the best accountant to walk through Glass Hall; it is extremely hard to do well. He, curves the tests significantly but that is because for example, the "mean score" on Exam 4, uncurved, was a 54%.
Professor Greer is a great guy, yet his tests are extremely difficult and his lectures do not add anything to this course. I had to teach myself the material and read and re-read chapters to understand material. Also, NO FORMULA SHEETS ON TESTS! Completely unrealistic expectations, be cautious taking this professor.
Terrible professor, do not waste your time taking this course.
Great person, but the classes are truly pointless. Wish I could have gotten more out of this class than I did. Do not even know where to begin for studying for his final...
This is a damn hard class. It's definitely not impossible to pass though. His tests are insanely hard, definitely require at least two days of studying. He does, however, curve them all except the final about 12-17%. If you show up to class for the clicker and do all of the homework You can more than likely get a B in this class.
If you have to take this class get a different professor.
He was a really nice guy, but wasnt the best at getting his message across. Homework would sometimes take hours trying to figure it out. The class averages on tests were 55% so he curved them, and then wouldnt curve the final. He made this class much more difficult and made it more about memorization than Application.
Super nice and kind man, just a garbage professor
One of the hardest classes I've ever taken. Homework takes me hours to figure out and tests are even harder. The homework means NOTHING in this class. Tests is what a majority of the points are. I'm failing the class and he has been no help whatsoever. I've emailed him 3 times and have gotten nothing. Don't take this teacher!
Dr. Greer is a kind hearted man who is a knowledgable, which is why I have given him a 4/5. He struggles to get his point across in class and convey the material thoroughly. For that I give him a 2/5 . Curves exams heavily and offers clicker points for EC after 50. Which is easy to get IMO just look at the powerpoint. Attendance matters! Do the HW!
