Senora Amigo-Horca is a nice professor. She likes to give busy work. If you like Spanish and wand an easy A, take her class
She's so unclear and scattered about everything. Going to class only made me more and more confused.
not a very organized teacher. I never knew where I stood in the class. Lots of pair-working in class. not much teaching. Not stressful though. I feel like I could have done extra work to improve my grade if I had tried.
I thought she was a great teacher! Very nice and helpful, and a great Spanish instructor. Like a high school class, lots of busy work, vocab quizzes, etc. but very enjoyable! VERY forgiving on oral exams and written composition grading, if you do halfway decent she'll give good grades on these. Gives easy points for attendance and participation.
I thought she was pretty good. She is very nice and forgiving on grades. I mean, some people just struggle with Spanish, so they had a tough time I think. For the most part though it is very easy.
Nice teacher. She is from Barcelona and is a little confusing to understand. Go to class and stay on top of vocab because that is a MAJOR part of tests/quizzes.
I would avoid having her as a teacher if you can. Although the vocab is easy to memorize, she is a horrible teacher. When it came to learning grammar I only used the book and tuned her out in class because it just got more confusing. Her quizzes are easy if you study but the tests are nothing like what we practice in class.
I took lots of Spanish before, so this was pretty much a review for me. If you're learning the material for the 1st time, I could see how this class could be challenging. She goes over everything quickly, so you have to study outside of class. Make sure you go to class & participate (in Spanish). The speaking exams are so easy. I'd take it though.
Amigo was nice... however speaking spanish was never forced, therefore i didnt learn much. With that being said, i did well in the class overall. As long as you do your quia and try a little bit to speak spanish in the class, you should do well.
If you want an easy grade, I would reccomend this class. If you want to improve your Spanish, I would not. The lessons were rather haphazard. The textbooks were heavily used, but unhelpful & badly organized.
I never really knew where I stood in the class until three days before the exam. The class, itself, was pretty easy to get through (although boring), but I felt like she surprised us on some tests and quizzes. Oh, and do well on your compositions so they don't come back to haunt you.
She is ok.... everything is kind of unorganized and up in the air. She changes hw on the syllabus a lot. Class itself isn't that hard but it's small (I had only 15 people)! Not really recommended....
very sweet lady. easy class. kinda boring.
Senora Amigo is a very nice, approachable lady who has a high level of care and concern for her students. She is EXTREMELY lenient on oral assignments (class is heavy on presentations, oral exams, etc) but expects near perfection on written work. The two end up balancing eachother out in the end.
Very nice woman. Enjoyed her class. She was pretty lenient with grades. If she could see that you knew what you were doing in class she'd bump your grades a bit (or at least so I felt). Only bad part was attendance, but that wasn't her doing. It's a departmental standard. I'd love to take her again.
Highly recommend taking her! She is very lenient on oral exams, and you are able to expect everything that will be on the quiz, made 96-100 on every single one of them. she prepares you well so you aren't caught off-guard. The course material is easy, and she is very nice and easy to talk to. you can make 100 on every hw and its due on test days
Sra. Amigo is very friendly and has a good accent to listen to if you are't a native Spanish speaker. She speaks clearly and slowly enough to comprehend. If you are having trouble understanding her she will speak in English. Oral exams can be easy but the writing is hard. If she knows you know she's lenient on grading. I recommend this class.
She is a nice lady, but she just can't teach well at all. I am left confused after every class. When she tries to teach us Spanish grammar and rules, she explains it in Spanis, fast, so I can't catch what she's saying.
I really enjoyed her class! I was not comfortable with speaking spanish before coming into this class, but this class allowed me to become so much more confident with my speaking skills. I became so much better at spanish from this class.
Take Olga if you can! She is really nice and super helpful. She makes sure you are prepared for all assessments and she is not too strict with her grading. I had to take a lot of assessments outside of class and she was really sweet and understanding about it. Her class is not too hard, as long as you really want to make an A you will be able to.
Olga is the best Spanish teacher I've ever had. She genuinely cares about her students and wants us to learn as much as we can. There were a lot of assignments, so its okay to mess up a few times. We went over quizzes before so you knew exactly what to except, and she lets you fix compositions to gain back credit.
Grades oral exams pretty easily, a little tougher on compositions. Really wants people to participate. Good teacher overall!
I took 3 years of Spanish in high school and walked out feeling like I could only say my name. In a semester, Sra. Amigo has completely turned that around. She is funny, kind, and really great at explaining and teaching. She doesn't grade as harshly as expected, and she's very helpful and respectful.
I took AP Spanish in high school, so this was a relatively easy class for me. She is kind and sweet and she cares about her students. The content and tests for the class are standardized across the department, so honestly for that the professor doesn't really matter. But if you're looking for a good Spanish professor, Senora Amigo is it.
Olga Amigo is nice and clear. She challenges you to use Spanish in an advanced context. She posts helpful reviews on ELC which make the grammar much easier to understand. Like most Spanish classes, it will come down to the final, so just be prepared for it. Quizzes were easy, along with the hw. Final was challenging, but not impossible.
The online homework is supposed to precede what she teaches in class. Use the book for help with the homework, then she'll help clarify it the next day. A prior grip on the language, especially from a high school class, will make this class very straightforward. TL;DR, do the homework and you'll do well.
She's the sweetest lady ever!! She's an extremely easy grader and gives out pretty high A's. However, she never puts the homework on the supplemental website until the last minute. Check it every day!!
Señora Amigo was ah-azing! She's the sweetest! The syllabus seems like a lot of work, but once you get into the grind it's really manageable. She's tougher on essays than on oral exams (and the oral exams are much like in class activities!). There's a 10 min presentation and a project but they aren't too time consuming. Her accent is easy to follow
Señora Amigo is an amazing Spanish teacher and an amazing person. She's so sweet, loves to teach, and will always help if you need it. Her grading is extremely relaxed so almost everyone should be getting an A in her class.
Literally the sweetest professor I've ever had. Sra. Amigo genuinely cares so much about her students and this class truly is great if you want to improve your Spanish conversation skills. Lots of assignments, but not of them are too time consuming or difficult. Take Sra. Amigo if you can!
Take her if you can! She leniently grades assignments like orals and compositions and gives grades back in a timely manner. She is super sweet and genuinely cares about her students.
Sra. Amigo is a great teacher. She is so caring and kind. Her accent is clear and easy to understand. My Spanish improved so much under her guidance!
I took 3 years of Spanish in High School, but this class was hard for me. There is more outside of class learning than inside class and online homework due every other day. She was a nice person, but did not really teach us in class. She would often write q's on the board and then we would ask our partner the q's and that's all. Hard adjustment.
SUCH A GOOD TEACHER -- IF YOU TAKE ANYONE FOR 3010 TAKE HER!
I LOVED this class & the professor. It was an easy class. You just have to do the connect work & read the book. It's super helpful to read the textbook before class and take notes on topics/vocab so you are prepared for class. Plus, even though she takes attendance daily, if you miss class you don't fall behind. She was a great professor, 10/10.
25% of your grade is online homework, so you have to do a lot of work outside of class. She is a pretty good teacher but can move a little fast at times. Definitely would not take this class if you didn't take 2 years of spanish in high school. Overall, very manageable class though.
Shes a fair grader, and she will actually help you if youre having problems. She gave many students lots of help outside of class. I personally thought it was pretty easy, but I know Im pretty good at Spanish, so she might be a bit harder for you. The workload was not super tedious, but it certainly wasnt effortless.
She was honestly one of the best Spanish teachers I've had. She's very caring and it's obvious that Spanish is her passion. She makes sure to always correct any mistakes you make in a nice way. Be prepared to participate in group discussion and write a lot of essays.
Olga is an incredibly nice teacher who genuinely cares about her students. The quizzes were more difficult than prior Spanish classes, but there are many other things that bring your grade up. There's a project, presentation, and essays, all of which are possible to get a 100. Most of the stories you can find online in English too which is nice
Olga was the best spanish teacher I have ever had. She taught 3020 for my study abroad, and she really wanted everyone to succeed. Shed stop by the library while we studied and ask us if we wanted her to stay to help us study, and just constantly showed how much she cared. I highly recommend her!
You're gonna have to work for the grade. There is a lot of online homework, and there are a few in class essays and tests. She gives good feedback and seems lenient with the grading on essays with grammar errors and such. Can be confusing as to what is do on certain days. The quizzes and midterm were hard and require studying.
Amazing professor, made the class super clear and easy and is very flexible and understanding.
Great teacher, understanding if you have a problem, and genuinely wants students to pass with the best grade possible.
All Homework is on Connect. Need to study for tests and quizzes. She can be a little unorganized or not specific on what she wants us to do. (She's also a little difficult to understand.) Other than that, she is a decent teacher.
She is an amazing teacher! She is very patient and always open to answering questions. If you are struggling with a certain concept, tell her, and she will help you. There is a lot of online homework, but it is easy to keep up with.
She is very nice and funny! Wasn't an easy class necessarily but I don't think it was harder than other classes at this level. However, it was a discussion class yet we did mostly textbook work rather than discussion. There's a lot of online homework and other assignments but it's not too difficult.
This class is more difficult since it is a minor level class. There is a ridiculous amount of homework due every week on top of other outside assignments and volunteer time. She is often difficult to understand. Reached out for help with concepts I did not understand and she did not help or give suggestions.
She was definitely the worst Spanish teacher that I had while at UGA. She is very accessible outside of class and is a sweet lady but the class itself is unorganized. All we would do is be forced to talk in class and then the quizzes and tests would be hard because we would never prepare for them in class.
Olga is the best Spanish professor I have ever had. She cares so much about her students and really wants us all to do well in the class and to improve our Spanish as much as possible. The class isn't easy because she expects you to actually try to improve in the language. Lots of homework but it's good practice for the tests and quizzes.
This class is simply speaking and online homwk. However, Sra Amigo is unorganized and kind of difficult to understand.
Sra. Amigo has been an amazing Spanish prof! I haven't taken Spanish in 3 years and yet still did very well. She would go around the class and check your work as you do it and give feedback to make sure you're on track! Her grading is fair and encourages you to work with others in the class! Would definitely take her again!!
A very nice spanish teacher, not intimidating. You have to show up to class, but class is pretty easy. Lots of partner tasks/convos. You will have a ton of online homework on Connect. If you actually read the textbook assignments and try you'll do okay. She walks around during class to help translate.
I took her class online so it may not be the same in person but she was the kindest most understanding professor who took criticism and suggestions so well from her students. She truly cared about our learning and always gave great feedback on assignments. Our class was mostly connect homework but it was all manageable and nothing too hard.
I had not taken Spanish in 3 years and this class was very manageable. Class is mandatory and you will be graded on it. You are expected to speak Spanish is class but Sra. Omiga helps translate if you get stuck. There is a lot of homework on the connect platform but it is doable. Also, many assignments to help keep your grade high.
She's very sweet, but sometimes assignments were not super clear. She would also spring assignments due at midnight on us in addition to class that day. So if a student worked all day after class, they would have no time to complete the quiz/essay. But, I learned a lot and if the previous scenario is a problem, I'm sure she would help!
Shes a really fun teacher and the assignments arenr really too hard, but there are a lot of them. Her tests are also pretty hard, but it was a really enjoyable class and Id definitely recommend her.
If you have any choice, do not take her class. She expects you to have completed assignments that she has not yet assigned. She acts surprised and scolds students when they don't thrive under her incredibly unclear instruction. I don't know how she's been teaching this class for years and still doesn't have it together.
I would not take Professor Olga again. She is extremely condescending if you do understand the material. I had not taken a Spanish class in three years and this class very difficult for me. You have to speak in class and if you have trouble, she is very demeaning if you are incorrect. I would recommend taking another professor for this course.
Profesora Amigo-Horacio is a nice human but a very disorganized professor. She assigns a lot of homework online without any notification, and 10 points are taken off for each day its late. Shes hard to understand. Her eLC is very confusing. She says to follow the calendar on eLC but doesnt follow it herself. Be prepared to teach yourself.
She is very unorganized and unclear about what she wants in advance. There are a lot of essays and such, but we dont do much to prepare for them. Also, her quizzes (tests) are really hard since she doesnt actually teach the material. All we do in class is talk (completely in spanish) about stories, but then she tests you on grammar and vocabulary
Overall good professor. Difficult at times because English is never spoken in class but after a while it's easy to catch on. Would recommend her but only if you've taken a Spanish class before. Make sure to go to class and keep up with the homework or else your grade will suffer.
I think Prof. Amigo-Horcajo is nice & does a good job reinforcing the info. Personally, I dislike how much content is forced into the class which isn't her fault. This class took up a lot of my time & the pace of the class restricted my ability to truly learn the content. I recommend taking SPAN1001 if it has been a while since your previous class.
Not easy for unknowledgeable and beginner Spanish learners to understand. Never spoke English and lectured with little clarification. Homework is key to understanding her lectures and classwork.
I just can't think of any criticisms! She gives a decent amount of homework, but she teaches well and is very friendly. In class, we did a bunch of different activities like skits to make things more interesting. I really enjoyed it, and would recommend easily!
Prof. Amigo-Horcajo was a great Spanish teacher, she talks mostly all Spanish in the course but that helps you get used to the natural flow of the language in a real life setting. We always went over the topics due in the homework and we could practice vocabulary and grammar in a variety of ways. She was very accommodating and fun!
This woman is so so amazing and teaches so well. Her love for the language and her students is so evident. She is easy to talk to and truly cars about her students well-being. 10/10 would take again.
I personally really enjoyed this class! Unlike the other reviews say, if you follow the syllabus and listen to her in class, the due dates are very clear. While she doesn't explicitly teach the vocab and grammar in class, it's very accessible on eLC and Super Site. She was very caring toward her students and discussion in her class was always fun!
Very caring, but she does teach flipped style, so you are doing the learning outside of class.
I absolutely loved Professor Olga's class. She was very supportive and funny. She allowed us to have a care-free learning environment. She is very sweet and introduces you to a lot of culture. If you participate you will do well.
Great individual, but some of her course material did not prepare you for given quizzes and tests. Participation is worth 15% of you grade while quizzes/test are only 10%. A lot of homework through online textbook material. Show up to class and complete every other assignment and you'll get at least a B-.
This class is overkill just for a world language credit. Avoid if possible.
Olga was a very sweet lady, but a little soft-spoken which can be difficult when teaching a foreign language class. There's a lot of assignments but they balance the grades out pretty well, and she's a fairly generous grader. Attendance is mandatory and she's a little strict about only speaking Spanish, but overall the class wasn't too bad.
I truly do not understand how anyone is rating Profe Amigo below a 4. This professor is one of the nicest professors I have had and is very passionate about making sure everyone understands. It is important to participate in class as it will help you in the long run and helps her understand where you are in your understanding. Easy A.
She is honestly one of the best Spanish teachers I've had! She really wants you to do well and is a perfect grader! I'm so glad I chose her as my Spanish teacher!!!
Olga is one of the nicest professors I have had. I'm not good at Spanish and Olga consistently gave me good feedback and always provided help if needed. She is a very fair grader and wants all of her students to succeed. There is a lot of homework, but as long as you complete the assignments, you will do well.
Attendance really matters. If you focus on learning the homework, you'll be fine. Class and homework is totally in Spanish, but don't worry, you'll understand it as you go.
Required. If you focus on the homework and actually try to learn it instead of just completing it, you'll do fine. Everything in class and the homework online are incomplete Spanish. It can be intimidating at first, but you'll understand it as you go on.
Olga is the kindest and most encouraging professor I've ever had. I truly looked forward to class everyday. As long as you participate in class and do the connect assignments beforehand, you should be good. She gives personalized feedback on worksheets and answers questions promptly. I'm going to miss having her as a professor next semester
Profe was great! The class itself is not that hard but will require at least 2-3 hours of studying a week to be proficient in this class. Olga is great when it comes to office hours, talking after class, or any questions you have before exams and quizzes. She made the class fun by being very interactive and always being in a good mood!
Olga was great! She is very kind and patient with you. The curriculum was mostly a flipped classroom, so you have only the textbook, PowerPoint slides, and McGraw Hill assignments. Studying is definitely mandatory to get a good grade, but limited effort should get you a "B" at LEAST. She does call on random students every class so be prepared!
Teacher is sweet, wants you to succeed, and is flexible about assignment dates, but she is super vague about expectations for most assignments and will make you redo them if they weren't done how she wants. Pretty unorganized class which made preparation for class and the quizzes difficult.
Although in class she is a bit disorganized at times there is a schedule for the whole semester posted on elc which makes it very clear what the due dates are for every assignment and what is it to be expected each class. There is a lof of homework with this class but it gets easier. She cares about her students and wants them to succeed.
Very nice and caring. A little disorganized, but only because she doesn't want students to have to pay for a textbook.
I found the assignments and readings engaging and helpful -- no busy work. They can be hard to understand at times, but talking about them in class gets you ready for the essays. Her grading is pretty easy. Quizzes are online and homework/due dates are all on the calendar far in advance. Best spanish class I've taken at UGA.
Love love love Olga! She genuinely wants you to improve in your Spanish. Heavy on HW at times, but manageable + no busy work! You write a lot but it helps so much! Online quizzes, writing assignments mostly effort based, and short story readings (but she doesn't make you buy a textbook). A bit disorganized but she is wonderful. Take her!!
Profe Olga is super sweet. There will be quizzes, essays, and outside readings which can be a lot but she truly is passionate about what she teaches and is trying to help. She is disorganized on eLC so just prepare for that. Participate as much as you can and you will succeed!
