Terrible teacher. Limited control of english. Unclear & spaces out during class.
Hard tests, but easy everything else. she'll curve tests if attend office hours
Gives well organized and clear notes, good for visual learners,
She is a very good and firendly teacher. She likes to help her students and never gives hard time to her students.
Meticulous, subtracts points over small unimportant details ("messy" graph, etc...), easily confused, cannot lecture, textbook she choose for course contained errors. DO NOT TAKE!!! otherwise, prepare for a long and harsh semester.
Very difficult to understand. Tries to help, but inability to speak English creates a huge barrier. Avoid taking if possible. Otherwise, expect to learn everything on your own.
yea she kinda sucks..inability to speak english..she cant even prnounce "A", she pronounces it as "E"..WTF..her test are kinda hard too, so avoid her if possible..
she's very anal with details, so no partial credits. Doesn't grade HW, but need to do to help on weekly quizzes. Tests are based off of HW, too. Final is flipping difficult! She spaces, but attending lecture is helpful.
She has Russian acent but you should be able to understand. Willing to help students if you attend her office hour. Very friendly and approachable. If you do all your homework and go to class, there should be no problem for A's and B's.

great teacher, very helpful and explains concepts in depth, not super easy but you can pass with A's and B's if you do your homework
One of the best teachers in San Jose. She is very helpful and friedly, so that is a plus. I took her a couple of semesters back, and she still remembers me! WHAT A PROFESSOR! She is also a beautiful person, inside and out. Take her class if you want to learn.
She's a good and effective teacher. also, she's hottest professor I've ever had.
Very nice teacher. Assigns Hw but does not collect. HW must be done or passing will be difficult. Gives weekly quizes which are fairly easy. Exams somewhat difficult. No notes allowed, closed book, etc. Very knowlegeable of subject and shows more than enough work, which can sometimes be confusing. Wants her students to do well. Definately sign up.
EXCELLENT. She is a very systematic teacher. She does problems with the class, emphasizes important points, pauses for input from the class, and ALWAYS waits for the class to catch up. No curves, only extra credit chances. NOTE: If you want a good exam grade, write out every step, otherwise you will lose points. But that's how math should be. :)
She's the coolest professor in the Math department. Extremely thoughtful and helpful.
Easy and clear. Really tries to help you get a good grade without paying an arm and a leg. Highly recommended.
Excellent: always on-time & prepared for lectures. Considerate of students, even cancelled or rescheduled quizzes based on class input. Homework not required, but a quiz a week was 1-2 assigned problems. If you did them, quiz was a gift. Lots of "optional" test questions for added points. Doesn't pull problems that can't be learned from the book.
Good teacher. Very helpful during office hours. Gave a quiz each week, but the problems were directly from the homework. Midterms weren't too difficult. Gives out study guides for each test.
if you can do a few problems from every sections in the book, you will do just fine. quizzes, tests, and final exam are free-response => similar to book problems! so no need to attend class if u can teach yourself to work on problems. fun class! played a lot with numbers!.
Where was this women during my high school years?! I've never had math been explained so clearly. The amount of board writing she does is amazing - i love her super neat graphs. She's very nice, but it seems like she has a little trouble creating a conversation with the class. Besides that, she's wonderful - TAKE HER.
This teacher is extremely easy. All you need is to do all the homework and you'll do good on her quizes and exams. She also give extra credits.
Worst teachers I've had in a while. Don't get me wrong, she's very nice, but just a horrible teacher. Lectures and lecture handout contain "many" errors. Ironically, while grading, if a single mistake is made, she'll mark you half credit, If you have questions about HW, she'll solve it if it's really easy, but won't if it's hard.
She is an awesome teacher! I would highly recommend her to anyone taking any Math classes. I've taken her 129A, 161A, and 133A classes and thought they were great. It's true that her Midterms are very difficult but the "easier" quizes and the final exam evens it out. She is very helpful--contrary to what the other person said. Plus she's hot!
No graded homework, so your grade is based primarily off midterms and quizzes. Take the quizzes seriously cuz they will mess your grade up if you don't.
Great teacher. Very helpful. Nice to watch too.
Crazy hard class. Quizzes are hard even when they are directly from the homework. Tests are almost impossible but bearable if you do all of the homework twice. And yeah, she's decent looking but not quite hot.
She is a average teacher. Her lectures are very clear and the notes she gives have a good structure. The main problem is her grading. She grades way too harsh. She takes off too many points for small mistakes. As long as you know you will get a question on the test/quiz exactly right, she is an easy teacher. But make small mistakes will be killer.
She is a pretty good teacher. You don't turn in homework. Quizzes, 2 tests, and the final account for your entire grade, so you must put a lot of effort to study. My only complaint is that she lectures quickly. Its tough to understand many of the concepts just through her lecture. Visit her office hours because it will save your grade.
If you are iffy at math, DO NOT sign up for her. Text book sucks. She asked what problems she would like us to do in class and I asked her to do a problem on the board but she refused because we already did it in notes. She said she didn't want to "waste time"... but then let us out 15 minutes early and still refused to help me after class.
excellent teacher for calculus 1.her problem solving stretagies are great! shows how to do problems step by step.doesnt grade n HW so up to u if u really want to pass.grades only on quizzes, tests, and final.helpful in officehrs.not tricky at all.wut u put in is wut ull get out!
Unlike other calculus teachers, this one makes her quizzes and tests exactly like the HW. No surprises. She also gives extra credit and very generous grading policies. However, to get an A on exams you have to score close to perfect. When I had her, the tests were out of 28 points. She is a meticulous grader. Show all your work.
I loved her class! I am not a math person but she had the ability to teach me things that I struggled to learn in previous years. She does lots of board writing and is very organized. She is also more than willing to help her students with what ever questions they may have. I would rake another class taught by her in a heartbeat!
I don't understand how anyone could have a problem with Prof Kovaleva. She's a good teacher who makes things as simple as possible. Do the homework (which is nice and short -- no overloads) and you will understand the tests/quizzes. No surprises -- ever. She has practically handed you the tests in your H/W assignments. Got a B+ and a B, take her.
Not a very good teacher for math 31. I thought that she will be good from this reviews, but almost more than half the class failed the only three mid-terms she had (the whole grade is based on three tests). If you haven?t taken this class before don?t take her.
She's a good teacher but her grading scale is extremely unfair. Very straight forward, but she takes off tons of points for little mistakes. Tests are only worth around 20 points. She tends to space out sometimes during lecture, and lectures every class, from the moment she walks in the door until it's time to leave.
idk if she still works there..cuz i have her as a teacher for precalc at sjcc...
Shes a horrible teacher your entire grade is based on 3 tests more than half the class failed, avoid at all costs
Do NOT take this teacher unless you know how to learn calculus 2 yourself! Clear notes, however she grades unfair. Your grades are only based on 3 midterms with the hardest problems which im sure most of my class failed. She is not helpful with students and she is such a bore. Doesnt even correct hw!
please don't take this professor unless you know you are good at math. She is a total nightmare when it comes to grading because exams are worth 50% of your grade. The rest is quizzes and the final. She has good teaching methods and you must come to class. She is extremely nice but she puts the hardest problems on the tests. Be aware
VERY HARD to pass this class!! She grades unfairly and uses very hard questions on the exams, which there are only 3 and worth most of your grade. She gives good notes but does not explain clearly and is very boring. Would not recommend
Hard teacher. She grades very hard on the HW, I have yet to receive 100% on hw. I go to tutoring, and went to office hours. Still trying very hard to pass. Would not recommend to anyone.
Grading is very harsh. And she does not curve so pretty hard to pass her class. If you are not good with the material i suggest you not to take her class
This professor is tough. Her teaching is okay but her disinterest is apparent. She wasn't helpful in office hours. Grading was harsh. If you want to pass dont take this professor.
Not recommended. Very hard to pass her class.
Math 32, very harsh in grading. Many hours in office to help. Midterms are a -20% what you think you got because of the small errors. Explains very clearly, but not enough to put you to sleep every time. Recommend doing the HW everyday as the questions on quizzes are exactly from the HW.
She's no good. She has a thick Russian accent. She's not very helpful during office hours. And she's harsh at grading. On numerous accounts have given .5/5 points on quizzes.
Easy class if you practice enough. The hardest part is writing proofs; everything else is straightforward. HW is not collected, but 1-2 randomly chosen problems will appear on a weekly quiz. Exams make up the rest of your grade. If you want an A, you must be dead-on with your answers. For us, that meant losing no more than 3 points on an exam.
Extremely helpful both in person and via e-mail. Instruction was clear and concise. Knew material well and able to explain in understandable terms. Homework isn't mandatory, but covers the test content extremely well. Some extra credit. Attendance not mandatory so great course if you're returning to college while working full time.
Most concepts are easy until you get to proofs; make sure you know your proofs for sure. If you want to pass this class, make sure you do the HW, even though not collected. Weekly quiz; questions from hw usually. Missing any more than half the points will hurt you severely. 2 Midterms and a pretty hard midterm.
She seems to always in a rush and go through sections like no other! She never reviews before quizes or tests. She speaks in monotone so the information presented is hard to grasp. Wouldn't recommend her. Also, very strict with grading problems
Very difficult class. Every class is a lecture from start to finish, with little to no questions in between. Goes through material very fast. Tests are a LOT harder than the material she told us to study from. Talks in a monotone voice. Nice lady, but I would not choose her.
This professor is very straightforward. Almost like a math robot. She puts you to sleep and does not interact with the class. She gets really annoying to listen to especially with her accent and uses Webassign on HW. Half the time she messes up and confuses you.
she is one of the HARDEST teachers i took this semester. your entire grade depends on tests/quizzes/final. assigns homework online, but homework is nothing like tests.
Definitely one of the harder teachers on campus. Tests are so difficult, it's almost unbelievable. She gives easy examples in class, but the hardest problems on tests. HW is worth basically nothing, neither are quizzes. Only take this class if you are a genius test taker. Otherwise, keep your distance. Half the class literally failed this semester.
Lectures are quite hard to sit through because she is monotone. This class is not hard without actually doing any proof oriented problems. SAS codes and conclusions are provided for some sample problems, which is extremely helpful. Start the homework early, get help immediately because she took lots points off if you wrote something unreasonable.
Lectures were well prepared and clear. Very helpful when I missed a lecture - she emailed me her notes. Do as many problems in the text as you can, at least 2x each, and you'll be fine. I would definately take her again.
very hard :/
Even though I knew she had a reputation as being really difficult, she has changed. Her quizzes were straight from the homework, and her exams were fair. Don't be scared off because of these ratings, and work hard and you'll succeed.
Mrs. Kovaleva is a great teacher who instructs a difficult class. I ended the semester with a C-, but she was very accessible and did everything she could to help me learn the material. Her lectures go very smoothly and she knows what she is doing.
She uses a monotone voice throughout her lectures. Your grade is based on 1 Exam, 2 Tests, weekly quizzes. This is a difficult class but if you do every problem, you will at least receive a C.
Kovaleva is hard and her examples in class are nothing like the homework and nothing like the exams. She needs to be more clear and show better examples. Asked for help and she just says the same speech as she did in class
Dr. K is organized but does not move at a slow pace. However, she does check for understanding before moving on. This class will not be hard if the materials are read before the lecture (see How to Be a College Student on Google). Dr. K is helpful during her office hours also.
Prof. Kovaleva has been very helpful. Explains material in great detail, very helpful during office hours, allows late work if you let her know what's going on, a few quizzes that are questions from the book. Only 2 tests and a final. Allows a cheat sheet on all tests. You definitely learn a lot in this class. I highly recommend taking her!
Dr. Kovaleva is great. If you go to her office hours she'll help w anything she can. Do the homework, quizzes are based on it. Tests are made up of questions from the textbook, just different #s. She wants you to pass. I did all the assigned hw plus the webassign hw and the tests were super easy. Get a lab class to do the hw in, makes life easier.
Quiz every week but does prepare you for your tests. Do your homework and you'll do great!
She is very well organized and clear but she is monotone and the lectures are boring. We had quizzes every week so if you plan on being absent (from the boring class) you won't do well!
She is a great teacher! Super Clear, assigns how however you do not have to do it, but if you do not do it you won't pass the weekly quizzes or the tests since the question are super similar and even exactly the same so I recommend doing your hw. Her lectures are super helpful and no need to buy book because it's online for free!
I got an A+. Nuff said
Olga Kovaleva is a wonderful person and a pretty good teacher. I would agree that this class is for very motivated, self learners. Her lectures are pretty dry but she repeats them if you talk to her during office hours. She's very nice and understand. Don't take this class with CS46A + other hard classes. You will suffer.
Best math professor ever. The homework is optional (no credit) but very useful and you can find the book online (pdf). She is clear and simple and the quizzes and midterms are based off the homework so if you do the homework, you will pass with at least a B.
HARD CLASS RECOMMEND DONT TAKE. I'm a 3.5 GPA STUDENT TOO. HAD TO ACTUALLY STUDY TO GET AN A-.
The class isn't bad. Homework is option but you should do it since the weekly quizzes have questions from the homework. Two midterms, the first one is a lot easier than the second. If you study you will be fine. The only bad thing is that the class is fast paced. If you try you should be able to get at least a B.
Olga's such a great teacher. She has an awesome russian accent, which makes class super entertaining. You'll definitely get the grade you deserve depending on how much effort you put into the class. "Ladies and Gentmen," as long as you do your homework, you'll pass the class with a good grade. - Olga
I was afraid to take pre-cal. I had a d in algrebra 2 years ago and I didn't think this would be any easier. Luckily, I applied myself to the best of my ability, went to the tutoring center and got an A. Olga is extremely fair, very inspiring and does everything she can to help students do well. As long as you keep at it, you will do well.
Professor Koveleva is great! Her tests are exactly like the homework on WebAssign. She explains things very well and happily answers questions during office hours. She grades very nicely on tests and she drops one. You also get a cheat sheet for every test so as long as you do that and do the homework, it's smooth sailing. Some EC on tests as well.
Professor gives clear lectures and tells you what you need to know. Sometimes, theory isn't as emphasized so if you want to learn stats, you'll need to study more on your own to understand it. Tests are exactly like homework. Allows 1 side cheat sheet and calculator for exams. One pop quiz a week based off homework. Do the work and you'll pass
In her eyes, class averages below failing is considered "fine". It's clearly not the case, and it is very concerning to know that more than 60% of the class has failed the past 3 midterms she has given. Wouldn't hurt to curve an exam once in awhile. If you're looking for an easy A, this is not the class for you. It's a struggle just to pass.
Olga grades extremely harsh. Very picky on how things need to be written. Her midterms have been intense; you only get 50min to do what should be about 75 min worth of problems. The final exam she gave us covered more advanced topics such as Binomial Series that she has not explained well at all. Expects you to already know Calc 2 prior to class!
You will need to be on top of every exam or it is so hard to bounce back. She expects students to fully retain the entire chapter prior to her lectures which is ridiculous. Even on the final she told the class "I should have gone over radius of convergence more", just do your best". Sad thing is, she NEVER curves, not even for the final exam :(
Never reviews concepts that students struggle with on exams. Expects students to be Calc 2 pros after a 50 minute class period which is unreasonable. If that were the case, then none of us would go to lecture. Exams are significantly harder than homework, tedious, and her grading is picky. No curves or partial credit, just pray you don't get her.
AVOID HER! She makes exams significantly harder than her quizzes and homework. Expects her students to already know Calc 2 like the back of their hand prior to class. After lecture, I was always looking at youtube videos to fully understand what in the world she was trying to teach in class. Very verbose and unclear lectures. Limited office hours.
Her midterms were significantly harder than the homework and quizzes very concept heavy I hear the other linear algebra teachers are easier take them instead
The grade is entirely quizzes and tests. There is a quiz every week covering exactly what was in the previous lecture and homework. The tests are also very similar to the homework, lectures, and quizzes. She is very straightforward, but has a medium-thick Russian accent. I enjoyed this class.
Overall I found 129A to be very fair with this teacher. Homework is optional but weekly quizzes are homework problems. If you go through every homework problem and write a good notecard you will get an A. I did bad on the second midterm which brought me down, but she drops the lowest quiz. Very clear notes and lectures, easy to understand.
Dont waste your time. I never fall any class, but with this teacher, no one will pass. Very hard grader and her study guide is not helpful. Find another teacher
Actually not bad. She has a nice, strict personality and is a "strict grader." Her teaching style is normal and how my high school used to be so she's not as bad as people claim. If you are confident on your self studying skills, it's alright to skip class time to time. Just show your work during tests/quizzes and you can pass the class.
This professor is so nice and caring. She is always willing to help her students, gives very clear examples and tests. I would definitely take her more than one more time. As long as you listen and take notes, you will be good. I was scared to take this class, but this professor helped me a lot. Really appreciate this professor, you won't regret.
Quizzes each week and they are based on the homework. Tests are very straightforward, as long as you listen and do the homework, you will be fine. A very good teacher, very respected. I didn't regret taking her at all.
I really regret to take her course. She didn't teach students, she just wrote solutions on the board from the paper. Even she doesn't have any passion!!
Professor Kovaleva is a boring lecturer who drones on and on directly from the textbook. There are weekly quizzes, so don't skip those; the quizzes are mostly a homework problem directly taken from the textbook. Study by doing homework problems and reading the textbook, and you should be fine even skipping class.
Professor Kovaleva is a nice person, but did not do well transitioning online due to COVID-19. She gave us a lot of homework and I would just try to get it done rather than trying to learn the material. Her lectures were long and boring and I learned nothing from them. Do not take her class if you are not a self taught learner.
Dont trust the good reviews. Cant understand how shes still teaching.. Unless you are 'naturally' an amazing math student and have great studying habits, do not take. The average student will suffer so much in this course, many fail.
I had a really hard time learning statistics in her class. Even though my homework problems were given, answers and review were never provided. She didn't even cover all the material by the end of the semester. I barely passed not because I suck at statistics, but because she is ineffective.
Gives a bunch of problems for hw, but she only grades a few of them...
She gives a bunch of HW problems that are way to repetitive sometimes, but she only grade a few selected problems.
Holy guacamole I was doing 6-10 hours of textbook problems a week. Even if you copy it all it's like 2-3 hours of copying. Assigned like a third of the section's problems when they were all proofs. This class teaches you the feeling of being burnt out. Lectures are boring, but that's not enough to earn a 1.
Her lectures are not too bad, but too much HW, I spend 8-10 hrs doing HW every week. Almost all of them have answers online, but its hard for you to understand so u can't just copy online to get it done. Midterm and Final is hard since since she just say u can use HW as study guide. I did all hw and understand them but still can't do midt and final
as long as you fo the homework you will be fine
number one, Be ready to do 50-60 questions of homework and she grades only 2-3 questions which are terrible. two, she grades harshly and take-out points on little mistakes. So average students must not take her class, only genius students can survive.
Take anyone else. Shes a robot, she just keeps going forward, not really good at clarifying material and doesnt care if most of the class fails the test. Save yourself the time and energy, I have no idea how shes still allowed to teach.
For a teacher who couldn't do simple algebra and had a hard time adding fractions she sure went pen-heavy when grading tests/midterms. During the final review, she stalled the whole class and only went over 2 problems, and couldn't even get the correct answer- plz do not waste your time, money, and GPA; avoid at all costs.
Please go take another professor. She creates exams that fails the entire class and doesn't care to give extra credit, even with the majority of the class sitting at a low C-F range. The amount of homework required for this class is ridiculous. Some of us are just hoping to receive NC (F) at this point so we can retake this class with someone else.
This teacher was not very enjoyable to be around. Lots of background noise on her end, which made the lecture hard to understand on top of the accent. There is a lot of homework on Webassign that does not help to study for the exams. Study guides are not helpful. Exams are difficult and are graded harshly. I got through only due to prior knoweldge.
Professor Kovaleva, not helpful at all. similar to above reviews her lectures are boring, very robotic. does not make any effort to explain concepts. Instead of teaching she would just solve problem without explaining what concepts are being used and why. She is definitely a tough grader. Please take someone else.
Do not take her class if you want an easy A. Her hw is on WebAssign so you can easily search up answers, but tests do not reflect hw questions. Her lectures are not recorded but she has slideshows that you can look over. She does not stop lecturing content and is not clear about what's on her test. "everything" is covered. Overall a very hard class
Please don't take her if you plan to get an A. Exams are nothing like the HW and really really hard. Grades very tough. It's like she's deliberately trying to NOT give you an A. HW are long and hard although you can look them up online. Gives no extra credit opportunities at all which really sucks
Without a doubt the worst professor I've had in all of my college years. Lectures are a 75 minute snooze-fest with her just doing sample problems the whole time. Homework (WebAssign) isn't bad until you realize that non of the homework is even remotely close to your exams. The class average is at a 50% right before the finals and that says a lot.
HW is on WebAssign, but is not that representative of the exams or good for preparation. Lectures had some examples, but not entirely helpful. The exams are a high emphasis on your grade, as the HW is not worth much. The class had averages of 60-70% for exams, which makes the final hard to raise you grade or pass. One of the hardest professors.
Prof. wasn't that bad, not rude or unbearable, but the class sucks. Tests do not reflect WebAssign HW at all, so it's really difficult to do well. She assigns too many unclear problems on tests so lots of people don't finish. If you bomb test 1, you're screwed and you'll probably fail the other two. Would never take again. No curve either.
I don't understand how people rate her Math42 class as "easy". It is anything but far away from "easy". Quizzes are graded very harshly, most of the time you won't get full credits for quizzes. Second midterm is insane hard. Would not recommend at all.
The class average for exams were 50% (final), 50% (exam 2) and 70% (exam 1). She refuses to curve them and suggested we didn't study hard enough. HW is time consuming and it doesn't really cover the material on the exams. Lectures were ok. I'm not sure how the class is when it's in person but I don't recommend taking her online.
She's a nice person but her tests are super hard. The homework doesn't help so just refer to her notes. The averages on the tests were in the mid 60s. She teaches a lot of material and goes really fast so be aware of that.
I took this class online, and lectures were not recorded. I had to dedicate hours and hours of my time just to barely get an A in this class. You will have to do 95% of the learning on your own outside of lecture by doing/redoing hwk and lecture problems. If you have a strong math background(which I do not) this class should be easier.
she doesn't know what she's doing!
Not the worst. Don't have to go to class since everything can be found in lecture slides. Weekly HW is simple and doesn't take too long. Midterm and final are take-home with a week to do them. HW, midterm, and final can be a bit confusing at times, so it's good to get clarification soon. Lectures are boring so it's best to do HW during class haha.
50% exams, 20% homework, and 30% final. No review for exams and lecture is boring.
Nice and friendly professor. Instructions are very clear, so are her lectures and slides. 161A just has too much information stuffed into a semester class and even with the cheat sheet she gives you, the tests are still difficult. HW is easy and tests are mostly based on HW, attend classes to learn given example answers that she doesn't put online
Olga is very funny her accent is hard but youll get used to it. TAKE HER she is going to make calc easier.
She is the definition of a bad professor. The material on the midterms isn't what you went over in class or the homework which there's a lot of. Also she isn't understanding of the students. She doesn't curve and assumes you didn't study enough. Not only that but she is a board writer. If you can don't take this class or math at this school.
Prof is extremely caring and cares about your success in the class. She's a forgiving grader even tho it's test heavy. She give's practice tests before every exam and is very open to questions. Only thing is that the class is fast paced so if you're a beginner it might be hard. She's super nice and responsive and I loved her overall!!
She is a pretty good teacher and is very approachable. I feel it is important to make use of the office hours to the fullest, she does help out if she sees you trying. The class is definitely fast paced. Her notes are organized too. Good luck!
Olga has a very pleasant and calming accent that makes lessons enjoyable to listen too. She only grades two problems on the homework, but she almost always gives out A's for them. Only around 2-3 hours of homework a week. Tests are fair, just go through the practice problems during class.
Lectures cover lots of material and can be confusing at times, 5-6 pages of notes every class. Very meticulous on grading homework and exams. Caring and willing to hear students out. For the final all the material started to make sense so just review more often to score better on midterms. Youtube explications are saviors.
Overall pretty good professor, very knowledgeable and clearly likes the topic. Lectures have a lot of notes. There's homework every week, typically 10+ question each with multiply parts, but only grades 1-2 of the questions. Tests are similar to practice questions in class and homework. Fast paced class so look over textbook and notes to study.
She is a caring professor and her lectures are usually not boring. However, there is a lot of notes and the tests are all pretty difficult. Lots of homework too.
For my semester, Olga was not present for more than half. However, she is responsible for creating the study guides for our midterms. In terms of difficulty, she is easier than other professors. As long as you understand each topic as the semester goes along and you do not fall behind, easier said than done, then you will be fine.
Professor Olga Kovaleva was my teacher for this semester, while sadly due to personal reasons she was only present for a portion of the semester she was a generous teacher and gave good examples during class, her homework is time consuming but not challenging and the help is very useful, personally I would take her again she is better than most.
Although she was away for personal reasons she is by far the best calc teacher. If you know someone that took her just ask for the past midterms they are easy. If you clutch up on the midterms you're chillin fr.
take her, easy grade just lock in
If you are willing to learn, ask questions and put effort, you will succeed.
Dropped after 4 weeks. There was no in depth step by step processes in and during lecture. Kovaleva only teaches the concept of how things work, rather than explain in detail as to why or how problems work such as detailed steps. There were more words than numbers on the board at times and that says a lot for being a basic calculus class.
Nicest teacher I've ever had, somehow made a semi-difficult class my favorite class ever. Only problem is it's very note heavy, however the course material is very easy to understand for anyone who is willing to. Only reason I don't have an A is because I had a CS mid term on the same day and chose to study for it Instead of this class.
Olga is a caring professor who makes the fast-paced class manageable. Though attendance is mandatory, her practice tests and approachable nature help. Unstuck study was a great study tool alongside the textbook.
She's not the best, she teaches you through examples, but the deeper in the semester she explains less and less on why steps are done, and isn't the nicest when asked questions. I had to get lots of tutoring to do well in the class.
"easy grade just lock in" shoutout to that guy who said that about her, truer words have never been said honestly the class isnt that bad just study for the tests and youll be fine
As far as good math professors go, she did well. Always on time. Lectures aren't too engaging and found myself having to try hard to keep my focus. Midterms are difficult and contain problems meant to trick you (stuff not practiced often). Try to get previous exams to prepare for these tricks. MUST watch videos to receive okay grades on midterms.
Moar of my criticism is aimed at the SJSU calculus classes. All the calculus classes are somewhat intertwined so it never feels engaging. There isn't any identity when you take these classes, you're simply a student and all the professors look at you like that. This professor wasn't engaging at all with students however, take Calc 1 and 2 at a CC.
This class should be handed off to the CS department as quickly as possible. The math/statistics in this course is very light. There is no reason it should be taught by a mathematician/statistician (or at least by Professor Kovaleva), as in the nicest way possible she is not very knowledgeable or good at programming.
Wish I could rate her a 0. Tests always consists of questions that have never been reviewed before. Worse professor I have ever had at SJSU! Very strong accent so lectures don't even make self so get ready to self learn. Heavily based on cengage and if you ask her questions she responds cluelessly. DO NOT TAKE!!!
she isnt a bad professor but she doesnt give physical study guides. she just makes a list of what to study which isnt helpful because when the test is actually in front of you, the problems have never been worked on in the past or in class. basically had to self learn and her accent is very strong. wouldnt recommend unless youre crazy
DONT TAKE THIS HER OMG
She's a fine person but her tests are super hard. homework doesn't help so just refer to her notes. averages on the tests were in the mid 60s. She teached a lot of material and went really fast so beware of that.
A lot of people will say that Olga has a strong accent, or that her tests are hard, but I TRULY believe its up to you to be prepared for them. Her accent isn't that bad at all, if you actually study for each test, the questions will almost ALWAYS be identical from the homework/study prep. Also her explanations are detailed and easy to understand.
Honestly a very good teacher, 3 tests plus a final exam, she provides plenty of practice prior to exams and even tells exactly what will be on exams. Homework is harder than exam problems imo but helps prepare for exams
Engaging lecturer and fair grading. She assigns more online homework assignments than other professors teaching the same material but the homework problems are relevant and helpful. Excellent classroom environment.
I feel as if she just doesn't teach the material, but she just presented it. The material didn't stick with me, so i had to attempt to self teach myself
