Very nice lady.Talks with a bit of an accent but still easy to understand.Passionate about math and won't hesitate to remind you that it is beautiful.Teaches straight from the textbook. Her notes are easy to follow.Extremely helpful.Has no problem stopping to explain something if you say that you do not understand.I highly recommend her :)
Strong accent. Besides this fact she is the BEST. She teaches from basics doesn't expect u to know it all. She really loves teaching and i can't be respectful and on time then don't waste her time. Because of her now math for me is an exiting and rather easy subject.
This prof is very passionate about math. However please be aware she does not allow calculator use in her class. She def knows math very well but doesn't have the clearest and easiest way of teaching it to the students which makes it difficult to understand the material.
Great teacher, she has an accent, she makes things easier than u think it is. She doesnt use calculator, so if ur lazy and love ur calculator pick another professor. I really appreciate not using the calculator when i finished her class, things u think u could not have do without a calculator, I her class, YOU CAN!! lol she's real nice
She is great teacher, she explain good and she is very nice with her student. I took intermidia with her and I got A. she really loves what she is doing.
Prior to this class, I dreaded math and barely understood it at all. I took her for intermediate then took her again for college algebra and actually understood everything that was taught. She's a great professor and I recommend her to anyone who thinks they can't pass a math class because she teaches it well and really cares about your grade.
She is very passionate about math and is ecstatic when her students are as well, though her enthusiasm sometimes detracts from the lessons. Besides that, she wants you to succeed as much as you want to. She taught calculus in a way that made a former math-phobe less afraid of it (though I still won't be a math major- sorry Professor Lukacs).
She loves math and wants you to too. She is from russia and feels that americans have things handed to them too easily especially regarding math. No calculator, no study guide, and no equations.Every test she tells you to study your notes and do the hw. If you are not a strong math student I dont reccomend her, she goes through examples quickly
She was an AMAZING Professor. We took alot of notes but they were really helpful and she also has an accent plus a sense of Humor. I recommend her. She really cares about her students and their grades
She really is great. This was the third time for me taking this damn class and i finally passed with a b with her. She is very passionate and i would recommend her
Awesome professor! I hated math but with Lukacs I got a B! She wants you to learn and makes sure you are crystal clear on everything before moving to the next subject. If you don't like math, take her! She will make you like it and is extremely helpful :)
She is very passionate about math, but thats where the problem lies. Most, including myself, are not as passionate & she doesn't stop to make it reasonable to understand. It's very frustrating & you can tell she gets frustrated with the students if you do not catch on to what she is teaching. Its frustrating for everyone. Not a good environment.
She gets frustrated easily and I don't feel that I can have a a professor that way. She is passionate about what she teaches but like students, I am not. Also, the more I ask for clarifications on certain things, the more I get confused. She explains things too thoroughly and I have the attention span of a kid, I wish she would be more direct.
Very passionate about math; wants us to learn as much as we can from her; offers review prior to final; keep all tests and quizzes and make sure you study and you will do fine. Thick accent but you can get past that! She's very intelligent; you can learn a lot! stay positive!
No calculator while taking test, the hardest part about taking this class is she change every question into fraction from beginning to the final the majority of my classmate drop the class I truly believe only 2 people got an A.
She is EXTREMELY passionate about math, she always tells you during lessons that she is not trying to trick you, but that's not the case when she hands out the test. Her tests are rather difficult, NO calculator and yeah she has some sort of strange obsession with fractions! you can feel her getting frustrated with students at times which is no fun
Professor Lukacs is a great teacher. She loves math and will let you know. My recommendation is to take her class. Go to class and do the homework. College Algebra is a very hard class. Put in the work and you will do fine. Go to class and don't give up because she will not give up on you. I highly recommend her.
I dropped this class because she wouldn't let you use a calculator, which is a must for me when all of her test questions included fractions and decimals. Also the tests were 14 questions and 4 question quizzes that had the hardest problems from the chapter. Her accent and her excitement for math was extremely annoying. Do Not.
Okay. Please do not take this class. She does not know how to teach math at ALL!! No multiple choice test or calculator. only 4 tests and quizzes and no extra credit at all! Save yourself from a withdrawal right now. Absolutely horrible experience in her class and way too much stress that you dont need!!
If you want a teacher that will give you stress and hard bearing accents and tests without calculators and muiltiple choices this teacher is for you. Otherwide if you want an A or B choose someone else, anyone else but her. Absolutely horrible teaching experience and made me hate math even more.
I really enjoyed her enthusiasm for college algebra, but I did not learn a lot from this course. She is fun to listen to during lecture, but only reviews homework questions and doesn't explain things the way the average student (one who does not easily understand math) would understand. She's a challenge.
No calculator/multiple choice tests is not even the biggest problem. It’s that every time she talks to teach a new lesson she goes soo fast it’s like she’s talking another language. 80% of the time I couldn’t understand anything she was saying. She does 5 Ex of like 5 different concepts during an entire class period. Very hard, confusing professor!
Professor know math very well herself but has no clue how to teach it to the students. No review days, no calculators, says she goes completely from the notes which is not true and throws in questions we have never seen before. Also, teaches new material the class before a test so either you know it or you dont. Definetly dont recommend her!!!
All these comments are so accurate and none of them are false either! she is simple the WORST!! she does only like 5 examples of all new different concepts and expects us to learn from that! What a waste of time her class was.
If you want to pass math and have little experience: DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS! She loves math and will tell you this a thousand times a day. She has little patience and a thick accent. If you can handle a headstrong teacher go for it.
Absolutely the worst math teacher I have had so far. You cant understand anything she says and she works way too fast. No calculators, no review days, no good example problems, and no extra credit. All this class will do is confuse you and make you hate math. Don't take this class.
She likes to boost maths self confidence by telling you how beautiful math is. To bad she dose not do the same for her students.
, I really like this teacher, no calculator. She talks a lot, loves to teach. I'm not really good with ma and I have all A with her,but you do have to work hard doing homework.
The thing about this woman is that she's not a horrible teacher. She teaches well, but get frustrated when you don't understand. Her tests were I'm possible. i passed every other math class with an A or B, never got higher than a low C. Take her if you know what you're doing and if you have the time to do every section in the homework
I actually liked this class. The professor is very enthusiastic about math which probably isn't for everyone. I never had trouble understanding her accent. The examples in class were relevant and I never felt blindsided by the tests. She doesn't collect homework, but she does expect you to do some for practice, which made sense to me.
She is tough, no doubt. But she is a very caring passionate lady. She is fair and you have to work HARD to EARN your grade.she wont give you anything except ricola, and exuberance. I feel bad for these students expecting grades to be given. Take her! We had study groups AND a take home test. She's awesome.
I think she is great, she puts a lot of effort into it and wants students to study. but you have to work hard, if you are lazy then this class is not for you. I highly recommend her class. I got an A
If this Professor made her students love Algebra; like the love affair she has with it; and not assume everyone has a great memory; maybe less of the students eyes would not have been glazed over. Professor was annoyed, abrupt, and loud when asked questions; very unprofessional. DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR for ALGEBRA.
This was by far the best Algebra teacher I have had. She is sweet and understanding! She gives many ways of extra credit! She makes things fun by using different colors and one time sang a song! She is bubbly and happy! I really loved this class because she made it fun and enjoyable! Take this class!
She has a VERY thick accent and you cannot understand a word she says! I love math and this class still sucked. Don't listen to the positive reviews! Don't take her unless you really know algebra.
This professor does have an accent that was easily understandable and she has no problem joking about it. She is very knowledgeable and truly wants you to understand the concept and not fear math. I would take her again for any math class I need in the future. She managed to make my 8am -3 hour math class fun and interesting.
This class was the worst class I ever had in college and the worst math class I've had hands down. I am a "show me once" person and I'll get it but in this class there is no clarity. She goes through everything as fast as the speed of light and whoever gets it, good and whoever doesn't it is too bad. Take head to this comment please.
Really good Professor if you want to learn and study. She puts a lot of energy on class and she is very passionate about math. Math is not an easy subject and she makes it simple as it can be. Also, she is always ready to help students on her office hours. Go for it if you want or have to learn math
Great teacher. All you have to do is do some homework. Class is easy and the teacher is always there to help you, in class or in her office hours. Just put a little effort and you'll get an A.
This is by far the best math class i have ever taken before this class i was a slave to my calculator and when i took her math class my first semester of college i thought that it was going to be really hard because she didn't let us use a calculator but she saved my life. i know now how to do math by myself and Ive been getting straight As since.
I took the six week MAT1033 class and it was four hours long. I really liked her personality because the class went from 6-10PM. got a low grade BC i didnt try on exam, i got B's and A's on all other tests. she gave us a lot of extra credit for her being late on each test and she gave us 6% extra credit on final exam.
Doesnt prepare notes just writes problems on the board but will get distracted and start another problem before finishing one then go back to it. Has very thick accent and doesn't understand English well so its hard to ask questions. Doesn't use calculators. No solid notes or study guides and test were hard. Lots of students didn't pass. got a D.
She is a very nice and sweet person, she really cares about her students and is super passionate about math. She has a very thick accent that takes some getting used to. Her teaching method is solving problems on the board and students writing them down. I had a hard time following along and staying focused, I ended up getting a D. Be ready for hw.
I loved her personality and how passionate she is about teaching. She really likes to get engaged with the students and wants you to understand the material. Although, being good at math, I struggled a bit in her class. Really take notes and homework is optional. Tests and quizzes make up your grade in the class.
Professor Lukacs is very... theatrical for a math professor. But don't you dare try to step in her spotlight. She was late giving back every test by a couple of weeks... Which was frustrating. She's a very nice professor, but if you struggle with math, make sure to pull yourself up fast.
In order to conquer her test, make sure that you are studying. She has a tough accent but it's not that serious. It math... numbers and equations. She is smart and cool (sometimes). She is pretty clear on what she wants and how her class goes.
Undisciplined and unorganized. notes are scrambled. assigns hardly any homework and uses her tests as the basis for your grade. thus heavy extra credit emphasis. does not permit calculators. as far as eccentricity: 60 percent of the time, her histrionic lectures remind me of a robin williams standup. if intitive, take, if a methodical learner, dont
Very motivational teacher
Well i took her pre-calc class in 6weeks but it wasn't easy... You really have to work hard and do the homework. She usually picks questions from the homework for the test and gives 4% extra credit if you show her specific questions on the homework for 4%. I got a B but hardest B to ever get in a math class.
My favorite teacher/professor to date. She cares and will help you understand. Ask questions if you need help no matter what. Tests are hard but questions are usually straight from the hw/textbook and if you do the homework youve seen them before. Took both MAC1140 and MAC1114 with her and i highly reccomend her for anyone.
This is one the best math teacher. she's caring, and would give you extra credit for your participation and homework. She would explain the material over and over to make sure that you understand the material. She's really good. good humor and inspirational.
She truly is caring and inspirational and wants you to succeed and is so nice, however, her teaching style is not ideal. Myself and many other students felt like we didn't gain much from sitting in her class, but if you asked her a question, she'll go to any measures to help you understand. No homework, but her tests were hard - 5 the whole semestr
Professor Lucaks is the best professor I have ever had for a math class. She genuinely cares about all of her students and makes sure that everyone understands the material fully. She is not strict about attendance, however if you skip a lot, you will miss out on a lot of important notes that will really help you study for the tests.
She is overall a very nice person, I just wouldn't recommend anyone to take her. I took her and I attended nearly every class and I received a D. Math is usually my best class, but she was insanely difficult. I took her for college algebra. I said this all semester long, the things she'd put on her tests were so much harder than what she taught.
Professor Lukacs is awesome. She is from Hungary and she has an accent (her English is getting better). If you ask for help, she will sit down with you and go over the problem or problems with her. Also, please go to Math Awareness Friday if you can. Homework is not graded, but she takes the questions from the book and uses it on the tests/quizzes.
Professor is very passionate about math! She is humorous and at ease. She's good at explaining difficult concepts, and she has good communication skills. If you study and do the work, you will pass. Lots of extra credit.
She is so nice and always tries to teach any way she can! She doesn't let you use a calculator in class. She does give you extra credit tho.
Makes you love math.
Super nice lady but terrible at teaching. Cant stay on subject because of her bubbly personality. We had multiple days of class where we only went over 1 question. Doesnt believe in Reviewing before a test, the "homework" is just the questions in the book, none of which is on the test. You will need tutoring from a real teacher. DO NOT TAKE HER!!
She makes math fun, keeps her classroom a safe place for everyone, and cares about each of her students. Preston, her helper, really made the class unique.
Shes a wonderful woman who tries her best to show her students that math can be fun and relatable. I have respect for those who are passionate about what they do. However, you will be teaching yourself the entire semester. Its very hard to follow and she goes fast. You fall behind? Youve gotta review it by yourself at home. Her tests are fatal.
She is a really nice and bubbly teacher but she shouldn't be teaching math, maybe art is best suited for her. She talk way to much during class about random topics and we only have time to do 1 or 2 problems max. She not very good at explain concepts and she makes it harder than it needs to be. She doesn't allow calculators and her test are hard.
I took her 6 week summer course and it definitely wasn't easy. She comes off scary at first but its only because she LOVES math. I started out getting a 60 on her quiz then got a 104% on her final. She wants you to succeed but she wont hand it to you. I had to sit down everyday to study the material taught. If youre looking for an easy A, dont take
She's great. Give it a few minutes to adapt to her Hungarian accent but she's worth taking. She did not allow calculators which made me better at math. Show up, participate, do the HW. She emails the the test review which has identical questions to the test. I'm taking her for Calc this fall.
Professor Lukacs is a terrific professor if you struggle with math because she takes the time to answer your questions FULLY until you understand them, but you have to have the guts to ask. You can tell she loves math and she loves teaching it so be ready to learn.
Great professor. The way she approaches teaching is unique and extremely effective. 10/10 would take again!
She's a very captivating person, and she makes it "fun." But she's also kinda hard to follow up since she doesn't have any real notes on anything and only gives examples that aren't very clear. Her tests were COMPLETELY different from the stuff went over in class and SO hard, I'd do well in class and horrible on tests. great person, bad prof.
her accent is very heavy, she doesn't let you use a calculator or formulas you will have to do everything in your head even long had problems
Comes off as a nice. Unfortunately though she is not a great teacher. She goes off topic often and is hard to understand because of her accent. She is a tough grader and does not allow calculators or formulas. Everything on the test must be straight from the head. I would not recommend taking this professor unless you already know what your doing.
The worst teacher I have ever had. Extremely unprofessional and rude. I ended up with an 89.57 and she didn't want to round it up. At the end of the day, I got what I got, but as an overall teacher there were many issues and she is extremely unaccommodating and rigid. I would recommend taking any other teacher besides her.
It is clear to see that she is a kind professor who cares about her students. However, the unique circumstances of distance learning seemed to be affecting her patience with students. She'll get mad if you have to leave class for any reason. Additionally, her tests and worksheets are notoriously hard. And frankly, there are worse accents out there.
She is very closed off when it comes to feedback, when I took her class many times me and my class mates would talk about the issues we were having with her teaching style, and when we presented our issues and tried to advocate for ourselves there was never a time that she wouldn't belittle us. Also she has a thick accent, so be awake of that.
I dont know where all this negative feedback is coming from. I was HORRIBLE at math, but she made me interested in it - to the point where I took two more classes with her as electives. She has an open door policy, is willing to spend time with you, and extremely patient. If youre struggling in her class, its on you. Best teacher at PBSC.
By far worst professor I have had thus far. She is a caring person and she loves what she does but she is absolutely TERRIBLE at teaching. She refuses to answer questions in class and ask you to come after class just to not answer the question. She floods you with information that 80% won't be on the test. POINTLESS HOMEWORK. DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS
She really wasn't so bad. Lukacs is a nice professor but sometimes gets off-topic. She helped me understand math but she talks a lot.
I took her Summer B class last year in 2021, and I honestly was quite nervous after seeing such negative feedback, but her assignments weren't extensive or super hard, we used this math software for everything: quizzes, tests, assignments. It was simple. I will say, if you have problems w tech-- absolutely you will not do the best!
The professor isn't necessarily bad, and the tests are fine, but the length of the quizzes are long and the time limit is short. Uses mymathlab and if you ask for help she will make a big scene as if she was offended in class and will call you out by name. If it weren't for how bad online classes are with lockdown browser I would leave...
DO NOT TAKE HER CLASS! She is a very egotistical professor and is not reasonable with her deadlines.
Professor Lukacs is an extremely kind and passionate person when it comes to teaching. I do not understand where these negative reviews are coming from. Professor gives a comfortable amount of time when it comes to her assignments and makes it very clear when they are due. As well as extra credit, great lectures and tests exactly like lectures.
She is very passionate in what she does and cares about student success but she teaches pretty fast. It takes a while to get used to her accent but it isn't horrible, once you get used to it it is easier to understand. simple questions in class and then difficult questions on tests :/ a great person that cares but a very meh and ok teacher
Idk how people don't succeed in this class, she makes it so easy. She's Hungarian so an accent but if you sit in the front, pay attention, and use time management for your homework you will flourish. She doesn't assign due dates for the online homework so you have to discipline yourself, but she's great, super caring. Taking for College Algebra too
I LOVE HER! She is hilarious and funny. A lot of people complain about she teaching fast but you need to pay attention, she always make sure you understand it before she move on and willing to answer the question if you have some. Don't be shy if you don't understand it, just ask. If you more shy just ask her after class, she will spend time w you.
This class teaches you how to think - not just follow steps. She is a polarizing teacher, but if you like her, you'll love her! She always leaves room for questions and you need to show up to class if you want to truly grasp the material. Homework is light, but she is very clear about what's included on tests - make sure to study. Very funny, too.
Dr. Luckacs is a very sweet, funny person, however, if you aren't very good at math I don't recommend this course. I'm usually good at math but I felt like the class was confusing because things weren't explained very well. Calculators are not allowed and every test is in person on paper. Lots of homework on MyLab.
If you show up to class, take good notes and study your notes, then the test will be smooth. She's very passionate about math and has speaks some gems in her classes (very uplifting). I would take her for every math class and prefer no calculator so that rule didn't bother me as she doesn't throw out numbers that you can't do with simple math.
I think she's a very nice person but save your mental health and do not do this. It was the only math class that we fit in my schedule so I figured I'd be fine. That was not the case. Just don't do it. Find someone else or take something online. I've never struggled this much in math before she's a harsh grader, allowing no calculators and sassy.
Mixed feelings about this professor. Lectures are helpful & she tries to include everyone in the class. Has a sassy attitude and does not tolerate phones or cheating, but she's funny. KEEP NOTE, every test is in-person, paper/pencil, NO multiple choice, and NO calculators. Not an easy class, you'll have to study. But if i can do it, you can do it.
The class was extremely test heavy, with just three exams and a final making up almost the entire grade and we are not allowed calculators. The teaching style felt a bit scattered, which made it really hard for me to follow, so I had to learn most of the material on my own. She's kind and encouraging, but overall the course was tough.
Professor Lukacs is very straightforward and makes it clear that she doesn't allow calculators or any flash cards on her exams. If you take her class, just stick to practicing your note questions, as she doesn't not provide any sort of study guide. If you take her class please study after every class!! Or else you'll fall behind and be cooked.
The best teacher I have ever had! I would recommend her to anyone she is the best. She is so inspirational and wants you to always do the best that you can and cares so much about her students. Take her
Genuinely have 0 clue where the bad ratings come from. No offense, but the only way I see someone failing miserably in this class is if you straight up don't pay attention or don't do an ounce of studying. She makes the subject easy to understand and will explain in more detail if you simply ask. People say shes "sassy" but it's in a friendly way.
Get ready for restless nights, studying for her tests and final. No calculator and no notes on tests. She also unnecessarily kind of speaks too loudly and can get mad if you don't respond back like a robot, saying things like "clear" every 5 minutes. Her tests will kill your grade and will ruin your 4.0 GPA.
Lucaks is simply amazing. If you are interested in learning, understanding and remembering what you learned she is the right professor! She is kind, loves her job, loves mathematics and a fun professor to take. You will not pass if you don't do the work. She made me love math and for that I am eternally grateful. Wish I could take her again!
She changed my mind about math. She made me fall in love with it. Her classes are high energy and she answers questions when you ask. I made sure to take Trig, Precalc and Calc with her. She is a one in a million professor. Puts her heart and soul in this job.
I wish I could take her for every math class for the rest of my time in school. She is brillant. If you are interested in learning, will take time to attend the classes and ask questions I 100% recommend her.
Olympia Lukacs was by far the *greatest* professor I have ever had. She truly loves both teaching and mathematics. If you put in the effort to do well, she will make sure you learn the material. She doesn't allow calculators to be used on her tests, but they are all doable. If you want to have a career in math, take classes with her.
Little leniency regarding test grades. Tests determine your overall grade. There is a lot of homework, the homework does not weigh on your grade at all, but if you don't do the homework&pass the tests, you would fail,&vice versa. She doesn't allow calculators, which is ok, but theres no extended time, or to be able to take the test again
Not the worst teacher but isn't that good either. She is energetic, but half the stuff she teaches is not even on the test. Homeworks dont really help too much. Worst test is replaced by the final, and she does give extra credit. NO calculators allowed.
Don't take this class you will fail.
This class is very impossible if you want to pass don't take this class
