It's only the beginning of the semester, but so far I like him. He's such a dork...I love it! He is my perfect man, lol.
Prepare to read at least 100 pages a week. He is not clear at all! Thinks this is an advanced macro class. Can't wait to see what his tests are like.
Intelligent professor, knows a lot about economics. Lots of reading. So far so good, haven't taken exam yet...hope they will be okay. I have learned a lot so far in this class...I came into this class knowing NOTHING at all. I do like the class. I would recommend taking this class with Professor Cooke.
Good teacher. He will have you read a lot, but you won't have to read everything. His tests are very fair and mostly what he goes over in class. Most of the readings you need are short articles. There is a lot of material though.
There is A LOT of reading, but you don't really need to read everything. He goes over it in class. I barely read and I am doing fine in the class so far! He is really nice too...
awesome professor! very fair, always willing to help students! verrrry cute too ;)
Great teacher! I would highly recommend anybody who is seeking for good grade and wants to know about interesting facts of american economy. If you like Walmart please stay away from him.
His first semester here he gave C-'s out like they were going out of style. I had a solid B average until the final. He said he was going to curve the final and never did. I am here an extra semester because this guy had something to prove...He gave out 6 C-'s that I know of...
TONS of reading! Too many group projects! Not clear - I had no idea what I was doing in class - and I didn't learn anything!
makes you read 600 pages a week. Did't understand what he was trying to teach. Midterm and final were crazy. Study guides didn't help at all
This class is hard! He doesn't teach it very well! he's too new and needs to learn how to get students interested and lay off of the H/W reading. There is WAY TOO MUCH reading for this class! This is just an INTRO course, not an advanced ECON course for Pete's sake! Cooke is all over the place! Try to take Ghorashi instead...he's the man!
Intermediate Macroeconomic Theory --He's a very smart professor. His class is very engaging if you are econ major, especially. We read a lot in this class. His tests are EXTREMELY HARD. The test covers a lot chapters and extra reading assigments at once. it contain mutiple choice, short answers, fill in blank and long ESSAYS. I got a C+ and i studi
Subject matter sometimes hard to comprehend but he is a fair very teacher. Likes when you participate. A lot of reading, some interesting some boring. Overall a great class since I went in not being interested in it at all.

Prof Cooke is fair and makes you earn your grade. This is not an easy class but it's not an easy world! Come prepared and prepare to read alot. If you interested in learning, I recommend this class. If you're lazy and expect handouts this is not the Prof for you.
I learned alot from prof. cooke one of my favorites at the school. Alot of reading but great teacher, good guy, and unintentionally funny most of the time.
Fellow hockey player.Very intelligent and a good professor. Make sure you read up to pace with whats going on in class and just ask him if you need help and he will help you. It is an intro class but that doesn't mean it supposed to be easy, if you cant handle the material you shouldn't be a business major. Tests are hard, but this is college.
political economy through film - read more than watching movies, but discussions in class are plentiful and really interesting. fun guy - you earn your grade in this class, do the homework on time, you will do well.
Awesome teacher, super hard class but if you do the work and keep up with readings and all assignments you will do alright. Smartest teacher i have had ever by far, should be at Harvard not Stockton
very hard class. a lot of reading. the tests arent too hard, he just gives you a lot to study but does not include a lot of it. essays are challenging because they ask for detail. very involved teacher. enjoys his work.
Do not recommend at all. He is way to smart to be teaching at the school. Grade is based on a mid term and final. Very hard
do not take this man for macro! he makes you buy FOUR books! i got 100's on all the HWs and both essays, a 92 on the midterm (only 3 ppl got A's), and only missed 2 8:30 classes for the xtra cred, and still ended up with a flat B! he gave me an F on the final, I took it to another Econ prof who said they would have given my essay atleast a C!
Yes, it was a hard class and no, it's not an easy A. However, the subject matter is not easy and if you pay attention and really think, not only will you learn something, but you'll get a good grade. I'm waiting to take another ECON class with him 'cause he knows what he's talking about and will help if you ask. Take it. The movies are good, too.
Cookeo is a great teacher. His class is difficult but interesting and he will always help out people he sees are trying hard. I didn't want to take this class but I'm glad I did. I walked away smarter.
Intro to Macro- Power point slides and notes is pretty much every single class. Not too many grades, I think there was a total of like 7 not counting the exams. I didnt use the book except for studying for mid-term and exam. Takes attendance. Tougher Intro class.
LOVE THE COOKEO. He somehow made learning economics fun and interesting. It was a hard class but I am very glad I took it.
In general Macro Economics is a hard class. No matter who teaches it, there is a lot of reading and definitions to remember. So, Dr. Cooke is really smart, he knows what he is talking about. He is very helpful and has a lot of explanation to backup his statements. Lectures are read off powerpoints. Cool guy.. some math involved so beware.
Good teacher, he definitely knows the material. Hes a funny guy and makes class interesting. Alot of things to know in his class but his notes are all online and he gives study guides for each exam
i read all these reviews first i don't agree with anyone. i thought he was goin to be a good guy.. he's a jerk. everything's hard. he knows his stuff but he expects you to know it too. i no nothing about economics so i don't do well.. he's not the worst, but i def wouldn't take him again. yeah every things online but i can't get higher than an 80
His class is basic: lecture from powerpoint/2 textbooks. He is very thorough with the material he thinks is important but his tests only cover a VERY small portion so your studying needs to be thorough as well. He is very smart. He is also sexy as hell. Nice to look at 8:30 in the morning.
Very difficult class, especially if you have no interest in economics. He is nice to look at but way to smart to be teaching at Stockton . He should go back to Wall Street.
Makes class interesting not too difficult if you have any interest in economics.
Interestin class. Cooke keeps things iteresting and engaging. The films are always good, yet a tad depressing at times. There is a LOT of reading but it is nothing that cannot be managed. The essays may seem difficult but are rather easy and Cook is an easy grader if you put your own opinion mixed with the readings he gives. Overall a good class.
Great professor and a pretty funny guy too. As long as you study his handouts, the formulas, and the power points, you'll be fine. Strict about cell phones and technology though.
Dr. Cooke is one of the best professors I’ve had! It may seem like a lot of writing at first but don’t let that deter you especially because there are very interesting discussions & readings! He posts a few powerpoints on BB. No quizzes/tests. He picked films that applied the topics perfectly. He is a fair grader. He is a very smart, funny guy too!
Awesome Professor. Makes class really interesting.
He makes class interesting but his exams are VERY HARD. I studied for 2 weeks & couldn't get higher than a C. He is very funny. He is way too smart to be teaching at Rutgers. For his exams, you have one large essay, 2-3 smaller essays, a few t/f & mult choice. Grade is based on midterm, final, prob sets, online postings &attendance. Good luck
For this class, Cooke is a phenomenal teacher, funny guy and extremely smart. You will learn a lot and he brings real life examples into play. One of the best teachers I've had here at Stockton.
Wonderful professor, but he expects a lot from his students. Make sure to read the chapters before class and keep up with him. He moves pretty fast. Also you don't have many grades to go by so do well on your two exams!
This class is hard. The final exam is the hardest thing I have ever done in my life. This guy is a genius, and should be teaching at Harvard.
Laid-back, very intelligent young guy. Easy to understand as long as you listen to his lectures. No quizzes, only a few problem sets and two tests throughout the semester. He wants his students to understand concepts rather than memorize terms.
Oliver is a great teacher, but more importantly a great person. Most importantly he is very attractive, so therefore the subject matter (ecological economics) becomes a lot more interesting :)
Pretty good professor but for a subject as challenging as this, he should go a little slower and explain things better. He has a midterm, final, and some problem sets and readings every now and then. This class was really hard for me.
Cooke is a cool guy, but tough subject. The material is dry, and his power points are pretty boring as a result. This content is hard to make fun. He tries his best, but it really is impossible people. Very little grades and work, but not much room for error. Theres a mid term, final, and online black board quizzes on reading and problems. STUDY!!
This class is really hard and you must be ready to work. I had a 69 average in the class, then got a 60 on the final and managed to pull of a C+ because of the curve. If you need to take this class, I would take it with him based on feedback from previous students.
Oliver is the bomb. He's a smart man who makes you care about the subject matter and teaches you actual things. Yes there's work but its not insane. If you're a little slow or lazy don't take this class because you'll fall behind. Recommend highly. I got an A- with my piss poor time management skills. Best professor so far. Schiller book is a must.
not a huge work load, but some of the stuff was hard to understand so you should definitely read. Nice guy though. You don't need the books unless you plan on being studious. Attendance is semi-mandatory he would have different groups sign in on different days.
All quizzes and homework are online and are the reason my grade isn't as low as it should be. The exams are the hardest part, I got low grades on both and studied for a week each, the material is not hard to understand but its a lot and the way he words the questions on the exams make it so much harder. Attend class and get extra points on grade
(United States Economic History): Dude, this is a great course; and, Prof. Cooke is a riot! HISTORY IS A WEAPON! All hail Bill Gates! Anyways, if you are well-versed in American History, you'll get an A, no problem. If you are not, you'll really have to work. Ton of reading, bearable. (When I took), take-home exam essays.
Oliver is a great teacher. Reads off his slides sometimes, but if you ask, he will go into a lot more detail. Extra credit if you never miss a class. There is a Midterm, Final, 2 page essay, and some readingworksheets for minimal points. I had him for an 8:30 and I didn't even mind going because it was fun, interactive, and I learned a lot
Really easy.
All in all I would say he is a great professor. In the sense that he really understands what he is teaching and he is young and able to relate to students. A very smart guy the class isn't too tough and he very much wants you to pass by throwing out a lot of easy A assignments.
Not many tests or quizzes.. but its actually a terrible thing because the only things that really matter are your midterm and final. If you do bad on those, you'll do pretty bad overall. I did all of the extra credit and homework assignments, got a C on my midterm and a D on my final & still passed with a C. I studied hard & still didn't do great..
Nice professor, funny, not too much homework, lecture heavy, midterm and final (lengthly and hard). Overall, not bad. Macro is a hard class no matter what professor, but I enjoyed this class with Oliver Cooke. It is a boring topic and he made it interesting and not painful to learn.
Dr. Cooke is the man. He is very, very smart and knows how to deliver the material in a manner that is engaging and relatable. The Midterm and Finals make up most of the grade, but he gives a detailed study guide and review. If you go to class and take notes you will do well.
For introduction to macroeconomics he was a very good teacher, although every class is just him going through power points at the speed of light. He was extremely bias to his left sided belief of the macroeconomy. 99% of the class time is dedicated to Keynesian theory and not much else. Completely a lecture, no real time for questions or debate.
Barely passed the class, didn't learn much
Oliver is one of the smartest professors at Stockton. You will be required to do a decent amount of work but its nothing you cant handle. The incredible lectures he gives and the amount you learn make the work worth it.
Oliver is by far my favorite professor. He is hilarious, wants students to do well, and provides excellent review sheets before exams. Extremely approachable, and insanely intelligent. He made economics a fun topic to learn about. Definitely would take him again. Just do the problem sets, quizzes (free points basically), and take notes!
An absolutely incredible professor. When it came to Macroeconomics, Cooke is your guy. Problem sets were basically free points since you worked with your peers on them. Exams were challenging, as they should be with such a complex subject. His lectures were very informative and if you paid attention you walked away learning something new every time
Professor Cooke is a really nice guy and I liked him a lot. My only complaint is that we didn't have a whole lot of graded assignments and he offered no extra credit, so one or two bad grades could really hurt you. I definitely found his class to be a challenge.
Go to class, pay attention, take notes! Gives study guides for exams so use it! Not hard to pass just complete the assignments and study
All I have to say is do NOT take macroeconomics with Oliver Cooke. Super nice guy and he's funny and handsome and put together, but this class was horrible. Powerpoints have 8 million words on them so I don't even bother trying to figure out what's important to write down and he goes really fast as if you already know it and are just reviewing it
I usually do well in school, but not this. It should not be an intro class because you need to have a good understanding of economics before you get in. Basically the entire grade rests on you doing well for the midterm and final, if you don't you will have to repeat the course. The tests are hard and even with studying for over a week I got a C.
Super funny and enjoyable classes. Can sometimes get extremely dull and bland but its the material, not him. He occasionally goes off on tangents which makes it difficult to understand, but most of the time Im just spaced off thinking about how attractive he is anyway.
Great Professor for Macro. Highly recommend to read the material, it helps a lot. Seriously. Uses a lot of powerpoints, but they're on blackboard. Gives you EC for less than 2 absences. Can be difficult to understand him at times bc of the way he talks about the economy, it can sound sophisticated. Very organized & explains things more if you ask.
I love Oliver, he is a great professor and a great person. He lectures A LOT, and his class may be boring, but that is not his fault, econ is just a boring subject for me, but I am still glad that I have him for an econ professor. His midterm and final are challenging, but as long as you follow the study guides, you will get a good grade.
I took his Political economy thru film class, and he was great! I knew almost nothing about economics going into his class, but I was still able to follow everything and succeed. No tests but a lot of reading and a few short reading responses per week and a few essays to write, but it is easy to stay on top of everything.
Mr Cooke is a nice man, but he class is very boring. Your grade only revolves around the mid term and the final, and I failed both. I got a C in the class, but you need a C- to get credit for the course. The material is very confusing, and his study guides dont relate to the exams at all.
Great professor! Hes super passionate about economics, which is awesome, but sometime lead to a drawn out & boring lecture. There is a TON of content in the class, and your whole grade is mainly exams. He gives extra credit for having good attendance. I would definitely take him again. I didnt touch the books but I wouldve done better if I did.
I love him as a person, but he's an ok professor. His class is only lectures. Quizzes are online and open notes. You do the problem sets in class together then you submit the answers online for a grade. Your grade consists of quizzes, problem sets, midterm and final. +2 points on your final grade if you are absent two times or less.
Super cool guy. He gives only papers for this class and isn't too hard on the grading for them, just gotta turn them in on time. Long lectures, but he tries to keep it interesting. Very caring about students and subject, also easy to contact.
I took his class at 8:30 every morning, and it killed my semester. Made me change my major bc he made me hate economics. He is extremely smart and knowledgeable, but his class is so difficult and boring. You're better off taking someone else. He ignored my emails asking for help. Ignored questions in class. Worst class taken at Stockton U.
Horrible Professor. Every class is him reading off of the powerpoints. Hes smart, but doesnt know how to teach. Take someone else instead
do not take. he was very smart and expected everyone to be as educated as him about economics. midterm and final were very hard.
One of the hardest class i ever had to take. Really liked his Macroeconomics class thus i decided to take this, but Jesus Christ its like he crammed 4 economics classes into one. If you really like Marx, plus dont mind reading 70+ pages every day, and writing out summaries, you should be fine. Otherwise stay away!
He was very knowledgable in the topic, but it was very hard to sit and understand everything. Problem sets are done together in class and then submitted online. Exams are difficult but you will do well if you study and participate. It was an alright course. He gives you extra points if you only miss two classes.
Cooke was incredible. He carries himself with such great energy. I joke and say his lectures are sometimes like a religious experience but it's part truth. Real shame 'rona messed it up. He made econ. easy to understand, as daunting as I thought it would be. Insanely knowledgeable and he shares all he knows with you. Definition of great professor.
His knowledge of the material is amazing. Able to explain any topic in more than one way. Speaks eloquently (uses big words) so pay attention. Always more than willing to answer questions during class and even long after class is over. Has plenty of supplemental resources available to use. Very accommodating. Records his lectures for future use.
Overall great guy and great prof. I'd absolutely take him again. Understanding, caring, funny, and teaches well for an online course (due to COVID).
Dr. Cooke is dedicated to helping students retain material, and his course layout is super organized on BB. Helpful lectures, open-note exams/quizzes/problem sets-- everything is discussed in class, just take your own notes. Textbooks not required-- he provides lectures and slides that cover it all. Funny and helpful, I'm def taking him again
I had no idea what was going on in this class for a single second but left with an A thanks to it being online. He encourages getting help from classmates and working together. Those of you that take it in person good luck. For online everything was open notes. Answers emails. Occasionally funny. Records lectures for future use. Great guy.
absolutely knowledgeable man. knows his stuff. and hes funny. great guy. allows tons of time and resources for any work throughout the course. take this guy and if you dont do good, talk to him. hell help you. he wants you to do good. nice guy and knows his stuff so if youre ever confused speak up he cand ef help you
Fantastic class for any major! Thorough expansion on macro, with heavier focus on environmental stability + pros/cons of various economic systems. Learn macro, then basics of ecological econ, then do readings that connect structure/role of economies with addressing the climate crisis. Gives all info needed for the 3 exams w essays + 10 quizzes
You NEED the McKibben Book, but can get by without Daly. Actually do the readings, it will help a lot. He is really fair with grading, DO THE READING NOTES. Don't blow them off, could mean the difference in your final grade.
Took professor Cooke for Macro, I had never taken an ECON class before and managed to do pretty well in his class. Very understanding and has great lectures, also pretty funny. Gives a good amount of homework but it's all fairly easy. Pay attention in class and do the homework and you'll do fine.
It's a lecture class and I found it very hard to stay focused the entire. Great professor though and a funny guy. The material isn't too hard either if you look over your notes as there are a lot of homework and quizzes.
If you are taking encon during the summer for the six week class its a lot but its not impossible. He goes over most of the practice sets online on Fridays over zoom (posts the zoom recordings if you cant make it). My class isnt over yet but I will get either an A or B in his class. Lots of materials up to help you. Responds to emails.
Very good Professor.
Easy professor, knows the information really well and teaches amazing. Funny guy and makes the lectures fun and entertaining. Decent amount of work but all relatively easy.
Homework was mostly reading and I'm sure you can find the textbook online. Just be there for those problem sets. All open book and notes on tests and quizzes. I also learned a lot but also confused at some point He usually always asks questions at the end, but i get intimidated because sometimes I'm just lost, but don't worry , just take notes.
Intermediate Macro Theory is definitely a tough course. Be ready for a lot of fairly complex theories and a lot of reading. Problem sets aren't too bad: math is fairly easy and he usually goes over the answers in class. Policy briefs can be challenging, lots of reading and a LOT of work in Excel. Overall, prof made it challenging but interesting.
This class is pretty difficult when it comes to the overall material that we learn. He is very funny and approachable when you need help, but his exams we're difficult and classes were mostly lecture heavy. Also attendance is important, this isn't a class that should be skipped too much. This was definitely my hardest class this semester.
He was great! Very passionate about ecological economics. He was very lenient with submitting assignments in late and gives you 2 extra points at the end of the semester if you only miss 2 classes! Highly recommend!
Honestly one of my favorite professors I've had the privilege of learning from. He's very attentive and will answer questions that you may have about the real world and not just in textbook context. The tests/quizzes are straight forward if you take the time to study the material he provides.
Ecological Economics has been one of my favorite classes so far. Cooke is a great and engaging professor. I did not expect to have such thoughtful and interesting conversations in this class. Definitely show up to his lectures, it's worth it. Expect a lot of reading and a lot of discussing/writing about said readings. Lenient and overall chill guy.
Good Professor, but you cannot skip any lectures, I learned this the hard way. I finished with a B- in the course however I should have done better. Max out your grades for the problem sets, and quizzes, and any extra credit that is offered. Study rigorously for the midterm, and final, both are hard as shit, especially the final. STUDY A LOT
Great professor, all of his homework assignments and quizzes were online. Cares about you grade and does decent job explaining course content. Exams can be a bit difficult so just make sure you study a lot ahead of time, but other than that, great professor.
Its a very easy and passable class. Everything is open book just make sure you study for the midterm and final. If you put in the work you'll get the reward. He's a very funny and kind professor and cares for his students.
oliver in fact did not cook. make sure to study A LOT for the exams until you eat breathe sleep like a finance bro. heavy lecture but posts a video version too if you are lost during class and gives a decent amount of extra credit to bring your grade up.
As long as you attend class and stay on top of lectures, you'll get an A, super laid back professor
Good professor. I would take one of his classes again. Pay attention to the work and you will be fine in his class. I actually learned stuff.
YOU HAVE TO BE A EAT, SLEE,P ANBREATHETH FINANCE BRO TO UNDERSTAND HIM
Chill professor who explains concepts clearly and keeps lectures interesting. There is a decent amount of reading, but class does a good job of breaking things down. He offers extra credit opportunities and is caring and approachable. He makes macro more enjoyable and easier to understand.
