DOESNT CARE ABOUT HIS STUDENTS. IS ALWAYS LATE TO CLASS. IF YOU DONT UNDERSTAND MATH YOU WILL HAVE AN EVEN HARDER TIME UNDERSTANDING IT WIT HIM. DEFINITELY DO NOT I REPEAT DO NOT RECOMMEND !!
Doctor Jones is a good instructor because he will deliberately mess up the problem and not copy it right. Then he will say not to be afraid of getting decimals and fractions. Good strategy. Americans are afraid of decimals/fractions, he would say. It's true, our books' aswers always make sure they come out right, if not, we are to round up/down.
I kind of like math but his lecs. were kind of dull. You can't participate because he will try to make you look dumb and discourage you by putting you on the spot. But he's nice sometimes.
Awful, condescending man. His lectures are rather dull and very rushed, he won't even label the section he's covering on the board. His tests are very difficult with a pass rate of ~25%. He is often in his office even outside his normal hours but will try to rush you out after a couple of minutes. Do yourself a favor and avoid his classes.
I had a hard time following lectures. He is helpful though, if you ask him for help. Not sure what my grade is for sure but I think I got an A. I did all the learning on my own from the book.
Your mostly going to use the book to teach you. His lectures are based on the examples from the book problem for problem. Extremely boring and Dull lecture as well.I would Highly not recommended.
His lectures are very boring and extremely dull in all aspects. How he lectures in class basically is him putting the examples on the board from the book. Keep in mind that the examples from the book are displayed and answered step by step. Then your off on your own.
I" m a person that loves math but this professor made it an awful experience. At the end of the semester he crammed all the chapters and homework, dontcare about his students, grumpy at Many times, late to class, explains the exact same ex amplíe problems out from book.
Please avoid this professor if you're struggling with math. He does not care for the students, his questions on the exams are difficult to understand, and he will not help you out! But if you know your math then take this class. Attendance is not taken, homework is given once a week. Adds a lot of people on first week. Very boring class.
Avoid this professor!!! Grades hard. If you try to participate in his class he will humiliate you. I tried going to his office three times and he was never there. I tried it once more and it felt as if he was trying to get me out of there. Take this class with someone else.
Professor Jones lacks the ability to teach students with a low level of mathematical understanding. If you want to pass; attend class, mathlab, read the book and do all the hw. Or do what I did; teach yourself the material, only show up for quizzes, tests, and if you get an A on the final then that's your final grade. Do not take him for calculus!!
AVOID AT ALL COST! Worst experience by far in 10+ yrs of schooling. His belittling comments will assure you wont participate in class.Prepare to teach yourself ENTIRE course on your own. He will only do the already explained examples straight from book every class meeting. Most unreasonable grader Ive ever had & VERY condescending when correcting
WORST PROFESSOR EVER. He only focused on THEORIES & PROOFS which is supposed to be taught in upper level of math courses(Community college level is intermediate level, not upper). His finals are also mainly focused on the hardest problems you will ever find in the textbook and the content is not relevant to the course of Calc 1.
Please, just avoid this professor! You'll regret taking him.
very bad teacher, he cant teach very well. not really clear on how to teach.but if you do all ur hw+read every chapter, you will pass.
Took college algebra. He is such a horrible professor. He cannot teach and expects you to know everything beforehand. Do not take him at all! He needs to work on his attitude.
All the questions of his quizzes are take from the assignments. You will do well if you do all he assignments. But his midterms are hard. Quizzes every week!
Although his test and final is hard, he does curve lot. I got an A , B and D in the midterm, almost failed the final, and got an B in average quizzes, but he still gave me an A. Attend every class and let him remember you is important.
He is easy, just study and do all the HW in the textbook. You will be definitely fine. He don't test outside of the box question.
Pretentious. That's really the only way to describe him. I think his doctorate is getting to his head. That being said, his approach is very linear. He lectures straight from the book. If you find the book confusing, his lectures will be confusing. I suggest you supplement with YouTube videosKhan academy.
excellent professor. you will learn calculus the way you should
awesome. great learning experience.
not hard class and you learn a lot
Easy easy A. Take him and get A Quizzes same problems from homework. Other teachers at elac make calculus impossible to pass. Not him. Don't mess up your GPA. Learn and get A with him
He really cares that you learn. Do homework and pass. This class not stressful at all
Want to do well. Take him. He makes it easy to learn math. Not like other teachers. This was my third time taking calculus. Dropped two other times and got A in his class
This professor is awesome. He will not mess up GPA. Easy A
by far the best professor. learn math and get good grade
In class he's has this intimidating attitude of not wanting to help you. but he is willing to help you if you show up during his "real" office hours. willing to help if you ask for it, really lenient grader. but tough for lazy people. don't expect to understand what is written on the board. follows textbook to give a fighting chance for grades
Very unprofessional professor. Just lectures sits down there went students are trying to do their class work. Very rude and intimidating when students ask him questions. Expects you to know everything prior to entering this class. Doesn't seem like he wants to teach. Take this class if you're a math major; otherwise, you'll look stupid in class.
Warning. If you wish to feel belittled and humiliated take this class. He is disrespectful to students, does not bother to know your name, does not come with a positive demeanor and lectures fast because it seems he does not want to be in the classroom long. Office hours are horrible, makes you feel inferior if you ask questions about the math.
Actually he's not hard at all. His steps are easier to follow than what the book says. You have to meet him half way, meaning you need to do all the homework even if it's wrong and he'll correct you. Pls review the stuff you learned from previous math class as this class will add more emphasis to what you've learned. Don't be discouraged.
He was okay. What I can say is just do your homework, and you will be fine.
Easy grader. Expect good grade if you pay attention
By far the worse teacher I have had in my whole entire life! Would never take him again, he is unprofessional, rude, and so disrespectful to students. He kicked a girl out from a quiz for sneezing? would always get to class late yet would get mad if someone was late. Seriously do not take him! he does problems the long way and does not help anyone!
I think he mentioned the divergence theorem about 29 times during the semester. Great professor, lectures focus on the concepts and examples. Exams are problems from the homework. If you do your homework you can ace the class.
If you try to correct him when he does work on the board, he will yell at you and tell you not to correct him. he showed up 2o minutes late to class and then yelled at the teacher that was still in the class, from the previous class to leave. Also, expects you to know what he is talking about when he walks into the class.
I do not know why or how he is a professor. You will need to teach yourself, he lectures and if you ask questions he tells you them figure it out. He makes rude comments to students, like if your don't understand then Math change your major.
He absolutely has some psychological problems. Not caring, not helpful. Extremely rude with no respect. Many instructors are strict because they have to maintain the rules; but he's being strict just because of his mood. If he has good mood on that day, you are lucky; if he feels irritated on that day, you have to suffer. He basically yells at everyone. No one likes him. But TBH, he's not very hard. But he somehow makes this class harder than I expected because of his obnoxious personality. I took this class because it's under my major requirements; I didn't take it because I like math or am in math major. Maybe because I don't like math at all, and he is not nice at all, which makes me even more hate math than usual. Of course, if you don't care if your teacher is an extremely obnoxious guy, or you don't care if people yell at you for no reasons, he is a nice choice. Tip: if you are humble, polite, hard-working, and on-time, you should have no problem to ask for his help. Otherwise, figure out by yourself.
When it comes to his teaching he is subpar. However, he is outright disrespectful to his students. His class is not that difficult but he rude and has a terrible attitude during class. Honestly, I would not take him for any class.
Worst instructor I've had by far. Jonas never answers your questions, instead he gets mad and insults you. His lectures and test are strictly from the book. Most importantly you never know what your getting tested on, he usually tested us 3-4 weeks after the material was taught. Every time we asked he would say everything i haven't tested you on.
To pass, do the homework. Try to get it in advance like I did because his tests are based on homework problems, or problems around those he assigns. Sometimes he picks a hard question. Also, be on time - he hates it when people walk in and out of class. Take good notes too. He quizzes every week except on test weeks. Not too hard, but not easy.
Had him for calc 263 a few years ago. Straight forward with expectations. If you're like me, who studied the method and not the proofs, you'll do fine. Tests are hard, but knowing how the methods works and their applications is the key to getting A's, besides physics questions. Intimidating, but will help if you're serious about passing.
Professor was hardly approachable the great majority of the time. As many have stated, how the class goes depends greatly on his mood walking in to class. Quite rude when people asked questions. I witnessed one instance where he bashed a student because he questioned his attendance to class. This student was always on time, always took notes.
His test questions are all from book
Learn nothing from him, but from my textbook and online. Graded step by step. If you skip one step, your points off. Very rude , read the other comment. He just use example to test u on quiz. Afterall, learn nothing.
Horrible... only one person was left in his class at the end of semester ... class of HELL
Jones is consistent with his lectures and grading. It is best to do every problem in the book at least once when preparing for exams. If you put in the time and effort in doing the problems, you will do fine - no curveballs. He also curves at the end. This class requires time and is not for lazy people. Would recommend and take again.
Don't take his class. He is rude!!!!
This professor is very rude and unapproachable. You have to learn by yourself, because if you ask him any question he intimidates you. Jones pretty much reads off the textbook (which you could do AT HOME) during the lecture and speeds through the sections. Totally do not recommend!!! Dropped so fast.
He talks nothing on the class. He only read the book for you. You can learn by yourself if you buy a book.
This professor is not a good teacher. He only grades the weekly quizzes and the exams so your grades are not based on much. He seems to curve the grade so I was confident that I could have passed the class, but my major is very math heavy so I wanted to make sure that I learned the subject not just passed the class.
Don't recommend taking professor. He is just reading the book for class. impatient to explain the questions.
would not recommend taking him. does not know how to teach. he does not know some of the things he teaches, it is as if he is learning with us. he says he will get back to what he does not know but we never do. you are better off taking another teacher.
Clear grading criteria, if you can self study it's pretty easy I'll be honest
His class is very interesting, I recommend everyone to take his class. The interesting point is not the content of his lecture, but the point of his surface. If you wanna have fun and get a "F", go ahead and take it!
Im not the best at math, but I made sure to do the homework because he uses those problems for quizzes/tests. He can be rude towards students, but many students would leave class early + wouldnt take the class seriously. I would just mind my own business and just respect his rules, and he would actually be nice back to you.
Professor Oliver is my first math teacher and I respect him. My math is not good, but in the result I got an A. He gives me a lot of confidence. He seems very strict because he doesn't allow students to play mobile phones during class. In fact, he is very nice, he is very patient to help students solve problems. If you want to learn, I recommend .
No teaching strategies, horrible penmanship, gets bothered when asked questions, no step by step notes, seems unsure about the material , jumps chapters, presents material in a confusing way, vague, indecisive, doesn't seem welcoming for students to ask questions, class is silent due to this, no social skills.
No structured lessons plan. He will give you the hw and put up a few links to youtube that is based on some of the material but that's it. That is being a lazy teacher who needs to find another profession. I got an A in pre cal, so I am not a bad student. But when you are teaching yourself you can only do so much. Do not take this class.
i am a dean's list student. attended all his classes. no matter what i did, this teacher didnt want to help or explain anything to you. so discouraging! he will put you down and embarrass you in front of the class for asking "stupid questions." if you dont understand, you ask, right? this guy is no teacher. he's a bully! WORST TEACHER EVER!
worst professor ever
poor structure and penmanship. will not accommodate students even is they notify him in advance. Does not give proper instructions and criticizes your work unprofessionally. I dropped this class after verifying past reviews and seeing the way he teaches and dropped out before I got penalized with a W. He does not have what it takes to be a teacher.
don't take his classes. I'm serious. Just don't. you will regret your decision. find another professor. very rude attitude, grumpy all the time, not helpful, unclear instructions, treat his students like trash. TRUST ME!! I'VE WARNED YOU!!
Do not chose this professor. Trust me.
Professor Jones is very strict with his grading, requires every single step in a logical manner. However, very unprofessional character towards students, accuses of cheating if youre able to do basic math in your head for Linear Algebra, and goes back on his word or doesnt respond to emails if hes in the wrong.
Knows the subject well and covers the curriculum.
Please read this post very carefully. This Professor does not care about any of the students in his class. He is definitely rude and obnoxious. I was taking a class next to his and would be hanging outside and heard him badmouthing his students behind their back. He bragged about his PHD and was proud that students were failing his class Stay away
A good professor that expects students to work. He prepares you well for the next course. Strongly recommend him if you're a serious student.
This was a tough course but I learned a lot.
Course is straightforward but requires work. Make sure you review calculus 2 integration techniques.
This course was pretty easy, I have to admit.
He was ok
The course was a little difficult but the prof was helpful. I liked that he dropped the lowest midterm score.
Lots of work in this course but the teacher was very helpful. Would recommend him.
This course was difficult but the professor gives lots of help. He also drops the lowest midterm score. Overall, a good teacher.
The worst professor I have ever had. He copies examples straight from the book and skips steps and does them in his head. When we asked him to explain he said it's simple just do it later. And if you are doing bad starts to question where you took calc 1 before. Was rude to students and was very picky on tests. DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS!!!!!!
This course was difficult but I got a lot of help during office hours. I recommend him.
Good professor. Curves grades a lot.
He was ok.
He was a good teacher. I learned a lot.
When I say he is the worst professor I have ever had, PLEASE believe me. He writes directly from the textbook and belittles you when you ask a question. Do NOT correct him even if he made a mistake on the board, as that is a direct insult to his ego. Please don't take his class, he is an insult to professors around the world.
Taking this class means you did not have another choice at all. Professor Leonard on youtube is going to be your BFF during this class. You are better off not going to his class and just learning from Professor Leonard. Class went from being 40 to just 8. People were dropping his class without caring to get a W that how bad this dude is. Beware.
The course was difficult and required a lot of work. However, I think I was well-prepared for Calc 3. I strongly recommend him if you want to learn.
He was confusing on his grading criteria and didn't care about the student at all. There were sometimes where he would contradict himself and has strange turn in times and will not change it. DO EVERYTHING to the absolute best of your abilities and maybe you'll be good
Good teacher. Clear grading scheme and he curves a lot.
The course was tough but the professor drops your lowest misterm score. He replies to emails quickly. I recommend him.
If your math fundamentals are strong, you shouldn't worry too much. Be humble, polite, respectful, and show interest in the subject. Even though you may be weak at math, if you are hardworking enough for the professor to notice, you will be rewarded.
I never wore my seatbelt while driving to school because i wanted to no longer roam the land of the living before making it to his class.
He is very good at proofs and derivation however expects you to know your prerequisite. He is really good at applying math to physics. He gives good feedback on tests and quizzes. However, his lectures are a bit fast for me. His quiz questions are all from homework and honestly a good amount of test questions are also homework questions.
Avoid this professor at all costs, he has a big ego and doesn't respond well to students that have questions. He is easily upset and claims to be arguing with him when you ask about your quiz grade. Your answer can be correct and still gives you a borderline D grade on quizzes'. He does the bare minimum in lecture while expecting immaculate exams.
Very rude attitude and not friendly. Lectures are just reading the book and copying it to the board. Grading is vague, will just circle errors and put "?". Won't explain them, doesn't go through quizzes or midterms in class and doesn't upload solutions. Doesn't collect hw. Unclear of sections tested on. You can get an A, but you will be on your own
Good professor; explains methods well. You need to be familiar with calculus, especially techniques of integration.
This was a difficult course but I learned a lot. I recommend the professor, he understands the subject well.
This professor is so unprofessional, avoid him until you can , you can not even ask him questions because you are then wasting his class time. Very Rude. Does not know how to teach , copies everything from textbook to the board. Barely passed this course because I relied on organic chemistry tutor. Worst Professor with big ego.
Course was hard but the professor was good.
Course was tough but the professor explained things well. He prepares you well for university.
The class was challenging, but the professor was understanding. I found unstuck study very helpful for studying alongside the textbook. Stay engaged, and you'll learn a lot. Not the easiest course, but worth taking with this professor.
Honestly I feel like I'm being set up for failure, if you don't do the problems the way he does them then you're wrong and deducts points, confronted him about it basically called me a cheater when I asked him in the most respectful way. Worst of the worst professors
He has a really big ego would not recommend. Went to his office hour several times to ask questions he gave vague comments and told me to figure it out by myself. If you were to take this class I do not recommend copying and pasting the answer and steps you see in the internet go by the textbook because the lectures are straight from the textbook.
Very disrespectful to students. Feel he is too accomplished to be teaching at a community college.
I took him for precalculus. Good professor and would recommend. Even if you struggle with math, if he sees that your trying, he will pass you.
He was a good professor. He gave us a lot of chances to improve our grade. He expects you to learn the subject though and so there's a lot of work.
I struggled with this course but the professor curves a lot. He's willing to help you if you ask for it.
I took Professor Jones for precalculus. He can be intimidating but is very knowledgeable. Don't waste time because there are many topics to cover. He wants students to understand rather than memorize. He's a good teacher but can be a tough grader. Drops low test scores which helps.
Good professor.
He doesn't read your emails, gives quizzes every Wednesday besides midterm weeks. He grades the quizzes like he doesn't want you to be there. The midterms are nothing like the homework and he makes it difficult to be there. He skips a lot of steps and answers his own questions. Messes up during problems and laughs about it.
Don't take this professor for online courses. There's only 4 proctored test, no lectures notes besides pre-recorded lectures, that are not great. This class isn't about teaching it's about just providing an online course with zero effort. Save yourself time and look for another professor.
Good professor if you want to learn.
Would recommend for anyone transferring to a university. I feel well prepared.
