There is only 2 exam since it is a lab class, but he gives quizzes every class to help your grade. Funny guy and easy to get along with. Know your stuff when it comes to lab reports because he grades hard on them. Labs are interesting and lectures aren't the worst.
He was a very good professor and I enjoyed the lectures. It wasnt a hard class, as long as you study.
awesome lab teacher. Very easy class if you pay attention, basically less detailed version of the biology class it goes along with. Only did one lab report, and he would always choose simple stuff to quiz you on
He was a great instructor . I took him for biology lab 152 and now Im going to take him for biology lab 154. He was very good at responding to emails and answering any questions during office hours. Definitely will take him anytime I have the opportunity.
very young. tests are a little difficult and thats what the course is determined on. understanding.
Everything Oliver has on tests he tells you by bolding the words on the PowerPoint which for my class he put on moodle. Funny dude that will be straight with you on what he does and doesn't know. Also real chill, just a fun environment in my case.
Very intelligent, can become boring with boring topics, good at explaining and showing examples, quiz every lab, honestly was a really fun class
No study guides, outrageously difficult, by far the worst professor Ive ever had.
Unless you want to read every single word in your lab manual then I advise not taking him. Very difficult to study for.
Super great teacher. Very clear about grading and gives lots of opportunities for points. Also very clear about exactly what to study when it comes to big tests. Show up to class and youll be fine for sure.
hes young so hes pretty cool. very passionate about snakes and reptiles its quite funny. easy teacher just follow powerpoints and ull be straight.
Oliver was hard, but not impossible. His lectures are posted online and the test material is bolded in the powerpoints. Study well and you'll be fine, but STUDY WELL. I didn't study well for the first three exams and barely made it by. I studied well for the final and brought my 78% to an 84%.
Oliver is a pretty good teacher! His lectures are interesting he's really passionate about the subject matter. He tells you exactly what to study for the exam. Study the bold terms and you will be fine
You have to put in the work. There is a quiz every class but they're not hard and they can help your grade A LOT but that also means they can hurt your grade A LOT. the midterm was hard but the final was pretty easy. He is a super cool professor and his lectures were short and interesting. Definitely would take him again
I am terrible at science but his class was easy. He posts all his lectures on moodle & everything highlighted in his powerpoints are exactly what's on his tests. Sometimes if you go to class & not a lot of people are there, he will give you bonus points. I made flashcards for his test using his powerpoints & made over a 100 on all tests.
Professor just goes over powerpoint the whole class period. Powerpoints are on his moodle, so as long as you look over them going to class is not mandatory. Heads up his lectures are VERY boring, but he is a nice guy and will help you if needed. Very accessible outside of class. As long as you study, you should do fairly well.
He posts the powerpoints online but will give extra credit to those who do show up to class. It is a lot more difficult if you skip, even if you go over the powerpoints at home. He seems like a nice guy and he does try to make the lectures interesting.
Love this teacher was super easy.
His love for this subject is evident. He is clear and precise with his lectures. He is funny and makes sure you know what will be on the test/quizzes. There is a quiz every class but if you read over your notes before class you will do good. I would highly recommend taking him.
he gave extra credit before every exam, and the extra credit is a class quiz. he doesnt try to drag lectures. bolded terms are what you need to study for exams. he literally gives you everything you need to pass. its an easy A, and hes just a very nice, approachable person. science isnt a fun topic, but he tries. highly recommend
This professor is a decent choice. His lectures are very monotone though. His tests are very heavy on constructed response and nearly impossible to complete. He often times lets you make up missed or late work and rarely gives homework for this course. He tries hard to get to know all of his students, he's funny and admits his wrongs which is nice.
Like any lab, you have to show up to pass. He gives a quiz every single class period and homework every week. The labs are hands-on. He gets to know every student personally but he is a very tough grader and doesn't give the benefit of the doubt. His lectures though are very thought out and he is kind to his students.
This guy is honestly the best choice for us non biology majors. Know that he is relatively young and new to teaching, so give him the benefit of the doubt. He does give great lectures and there are even opportunities for bonus points, just be mindful that you are only graded by 4 tests. Oh, and he's funny too!
Professor Ljustina is a young guy who cares for his students for sure. For ZOO252 this semester he was thrown in and honestly just sat there and said "If y'all have any questions, just ask". He always provided answers and was knowledgeable, but he just didnt lecture what we were doing in lab. The midterm was hard but final was easy.
He made this lab way harder than it needed to be. Half of my class dropped it after the midterm.
He made this class harder than it was. We had a test before each class, and I could not pass not one of them.
I took his GBIO107 class and I expected it to be very difficult but it wasn't at all! His lectures were online and he provided fill in the blanks for each slide on his power points, along with audio for each slide. As long as you fill out the slides and study them you will pass with an A. He was very nice and easy to communicate with.
He does not lecture. He reads over a powerpoint and sits there the rest of the class to let you learn yourself. Quizzes are only 5 questions a piece every time. Put things on the midterm he told us he wouldn't. Would not recommend him at all.
Mr. Ljustina was so nice and I really loved his class. The labs were fun and his lectures were fine. There is a quiz every class, so be on time and study before it. They're easy if you review your notes and the lab manual!
Class was relatively easy. You have to go to class to get the right notes to study for the exams. Bonus opportunities given the lecture before the exam.
Super nice guy but it is a very hard class. You have to learn so many terms in a short amount of time. He does get extra credit but it never really helps. If you are not the best at biology I would for sure take someone else. Be prepared to put ALOT of effort to pass.
in the beginning of every class, 5 minute timed short quiz. gives clear notes the week before for the quiz and they're very easy. he enjoys what he teaches and isn't confusing when it comes down to what will be the tests.
He goes over power point in class with highlighted terms that will be on the test. He does make the lectures interesting and funny hes definitely the best bio professor I have had. Attendance not mandatory but he does not post the full notes
Super nice guy and does not take attendance. However, he doesn't post the full powerpoints so if you want the full notes, you need to go or ask a friend for their notes. The tests are straight from the powerpoints and multiple choice. He does a bonus quiz the class before that can be worth up to 10 points. He does not do study guides though.
i really enjoyed his class and having him as a professor, just make sure you show up, participate, and study
Each class began immediately with a five question quiz, not multiple choice. No makeups for quizzes, you had to be there exactly on time. No phones out in class either. Weirdly strict in general, but he was nice during the actual experiments. I don't like him much but definitely passable, just know what he expects of you and you're golden.
Class was just a big information dump via powerpoint. There were no exam reviews so you had to memorize on average about 150 terms. He gave extra credit bonus quizzes if you showed up the class before an exam. None of the information is engaging would not recommend.
If you have to take Biology 151 TAKE HIM!! He's so nice and is willing to help you. He lectures off of powerpoints and everything on the powerpoints are on the test. He doesn't post the notes so go to the class! He also gives 10 bonus points on each test and drops your lowest score. This class is not easy but he makes it 10x better.
Such an amazing professor. Tests come straight from the power points and he gives 10 point bonus quizzes before each exam. He is amazing and it is not difficult to pass. Take notes and study and you will be fine!!!
I had him for fall 2022 and he was great! His tests are based off of his notes, all you have to do is go to class and fill in the blanks. As long as you study the powerpoint notes you fill in and try your best to comprehend them you will do just fine! He is also willing to help through his office hours. His review quiz also counted for bonus!
The lecture outline is given to you, and all you have to do is fill in the blanks during lectures. I liked not having to listen to every word he said and finding the important information; it's all bolded for you. He gives 10 bonus points on review day, and his tests are not hard. For reference, I would study around 4 hours per test and get an A.
Somewhat funny. PowerPoints were very dense. pop quizzes and exams as assignments with the exception of one bonus assignment. Attendance is not mandatory. No homework required for him. he does a moderate job explaining what is on the slides but overall if you do not have prior knowledge on Biology, this will be a difficult class.
Take my favorite class! He understands the material for each lecture, is always respectful to the students, and finds it hilarious to show us weird nature videos sometimes. Attendance is not mandatory, but it's beneficial for the blanks he has in the notes. 4 difficult tests and a few bonus work, but luckily, he drops the lowest test grade
lot of powerpoints, only 4 exams, final is optional, and lowest grade is dropped
Ljustina is alright very funny and cares about your academic performance.
Very easy class as long as you review the power points. He highlights terms and ideas that will be included in the test which make it very easy to review using flash cards. If you do well on all the test you'll be able to skip the final as he drops the lowest grade. Highly recommend him.
His lectures start out slow and maintained and progressively gets faster as he tries to shove all the information into one seating time. You will not get out of class early, and you have to study your a$$ off to get a good grade on his exams. Our class averages were around the 40s every test. No other work but tests, you can drop one at the end.
Nice guy. If you attend class, take notes, and look at the PPTs you should be fine to get an "A". Bonus quizzes before tests are helpful.
If you study with flashcards, then this is the course for you. Professor Ljustina makes powerpoints with blanks you have to fill out and that information is usually what is on the exam. If you study then you will be successful, he's super chill and there are no surprises.
He is very funny but there is a lot of material to know before tests. Be ready to study for a hour everyday to pass the tests. While attendance is not mediatory I would recommend attending because if you don't you will be complete lost. He does offer extra credit opportunity and drops your lowest test grade if you final exam grade is higher.
Mr. Ljustina is very funny and entertaining. He is a good person to talk to and he gets you engaged in his class. But his lectures can be a little boring at times. Also, you have to make flashcards, and read the textbook and his ppt for hours on end, just to pass his class. Lastly, if you are not a good test taker, then this class isn't for you.
I'm not yet done with his class but while it is a difficult class, he really helps!! Go to his office hours and he will help you. All the upperclassmen I talk too with bio majors rave abt him! So geniunely good teacher, the class is hard but I feel like the difficulty is fostering a way better understanding of Biology. Super lecture heavy !
He is tough but he is also a great at explaining terms and breaking down tough concepts.
Mr. Ljustina is a great professor. The quizlets I made directly from his lectures/powerpoints have scored me high A's on every exam. I enjoy not having to worry about homework and put my time and effort studying for the exams. I have found such a better understanding and appreciation for Biology from his course.
While his class is difficult, he offers so much bonus and drops your lowest test. His lectures are difficult but you just have to memorize because the tests are identical to the notes. He is very funny and reviews everyday, so while attendance isnt graded you should go to class.
He was a great professor and very easy. I made over 100s on every test just by memorizing notecards directly from the ppt. He drops your lowest test score (which means you can drop your final if that is considered your lowest exam and you do not have to take it!) and gives SO MUCH extra credit. Just study and you will be fine.
If you dont know how to teach yourself, this professor isnt for you. Grades are only based on exams and lectures are powerpoint based. There are extra credit opportunities but the class is still very difficult and there is a lot thrown at you to remember for each exam.
All you have to do is read the powerpoints in class and take the exams. The exams are basically word for the powerpoints so the only way you'd fail this class is if you don't study at all. He only grades you on exams. No homework or quizzes, just the exams and they're not even hard exams either. They're straight to the point.
He was great! He gave very engaging lectures, and although the only grades in the class were exams, I think it is doable. His tests are always cumulative from the lessons leading up to each exam, but before the tests, he will offer 10 to 15 bonus points to help you out. He is always willing to help outside of class, and he seems very knowledgeable.
Dr. Ljustina is amazing! He goes out of his way to meet with you before or after each exam to go over any material or questions missed. He makes his material super easy to understand, and gives quite a bit of extra credit for each exam. He also drops your lowest test score so if you're happy with your grade before the final you don't have to takeit
This is probably the easiest biology class you will take (unless you had open book test in your last biology class) . Attendance is mandatory because you will not know how to study for his test. The test are word for word, bar for bar from his PowerPoints. This is an easy A, B, or C if you put in the work.
I loved Professor Ljustina! It's obvious he cares about students, he encourages students to meet with him during office hours if help is needed. Lecture heavy and lots of material to learn, but tests are word for word from his powerpoint. He gives bonus points before every test, there are 5 tests (one being the final). Lowest grade gets dropped.
Mr. Ljustina was a great professor and his lectures were enjoyable. Attendance wasn't necessarily mandatory but the lectures followed a fill in the blank powerpoint that was not posted in full online. There were 4 exams and a final, in which he offered extra credit opportunities the class before the exam. I would take his class again :)
TAKE THIS PROFESSOR! He is one of the nicest professors i've taken. He teaches very well in a way that helps you understand, and he always makes sure his students are understanding the material before moving on. He also gives 15 bonus points on every exam, and the exams are easy. Its mostly composed of definitions and simple terms.
Very good Teacher, 100% would take agian. The only down side of it is the constant studying, but of course your gonna have to study it's biology
I loved this professor!!! he was SO nice and down to earth. He helps with any questions you might have and cares about his students. He also gives 15 bonus points on every exam if you show up to class before the exam. His exams were straight definitions and SUPER easy. He made biology easy and his lectures are very interesting. Definently recommend
It's not that he is hard, this class is just obnoxiously too hard to be a prerequisite. He does give everything you need in his powerpoint, but you have to go to class because he doesn't post the filled in slides. There's so much information and it feels like he's so smart that he doesn't realize that everyone else isn't on the same level as him
Take this professor! He gives a 10 bonus points on every exam. He's also very funny and passionate about biology.
Very hard do not take unless you want to teach yourself.
You literally have to teach yourself all the material its like he thinks we know all this stuff already and just goes over the powerpoint like its nothing. Hes very funny and nice but he needs to actually teach.
He is a very nice and funny professor but because he is so smart his lectures are difficult to follow.
Pretty engaging lecturer if lectures are your thing. He does go really fast during lectures but will reexplain concepts if they're not clear. PLEASE study outside of class since the material is quite difficult if you're not setting aside some time. I suggest making your own Quizlet/Knowt sets instead of relying on other student's sets.
He literally just goes over the power point and thats it. Its hard to know what is gonna be on the tests.
He is very lecture heavy and all he gives is exams and his exams are hard and roughly graded.
Although this class is quite difficult by nature, I absolutely love Prof. Ljustina. His lectures are fun to listen to and he always makes sure to answer student questions and make sure everyone understands as he goes through each class. Very clear on grading and did reviews before each test.
You can succeed in this class if you study outside of class time. All you have to do during the lectures is pay attention and fill in the missing words in the power points. He is very engaging and funny, and he'll ask if you have questions or need him to slow down. The only grades are from his tests though so definitely go to class and study!
Professor Ljustina is a really nice guy. He is also an amazing teacher. While he read from the slides, he would go in-depth into the subject at times to make sure we understood the topic. Providing examples for us to make sense of. If you want to have a good time and learn quality information, take Ljustina!
The lectures are heavy, but no study guide is provided, making it hard to know what to study for tests. It feels unfair and frustrating, especially when we pay to learn. A simple study guide could really help clarify expectations and improve our performance.
Test heavy and no study guide EVER
Good energy in class and is very into the topics of the lecture, but the class is fast paced and also has no study guide which makes it harder for people that doesn't pick up fast to get a good grade in the class.
He is a nice guy but I feel like this class is too difficult to be considered a general ed requirement for majority of majors. Main issue is that the ONLY grades are exams which is very difficult to bring up. The tests are also based on PowerPoints that are 40+ slides each (tests usually based on 3). Doesn't provide a study guide. Fought for my B.
He doesn't grade anything other than tests, but biology is really just memorization so if you make good flash cards you'll be set.
If you go to class and actively listen you will pass. He will meet with you outside of class and go over any questions you have. His class is primarily lecture, but he keeps it fun and engaging. If you do your part, he will do his, and in my opinion, it's an easy A.
Only grades you have are the 4 exams and the final. He does drop your lowest one though. No study guides so participation matters to be able to fill in the blanks on the slides. Exams are 50 multiple choice questions and are on the PowerPoints he goes over. Study and you should be fine
He post slideshows that you fill the blanks in on which were a plus but I would recommend recording and typing everything he says down because it will better help you understand the material. He gives 5 bonus points for each exam he also gave one bonus assignment. Exams are 50 questions each and he drops the lowest one- don't have to take final.
Mr. Ljustina has a lecture heavy class and you are only graded by exams, which can get difficult. However, he is approachable and explains things well, making the material easy to grasp. Once you get into the swing of things, it really isn't too bad.
