This teacher never looks up. He always looks down and say 'ok'?
Course is very easy. Teacher is nice and is very giving when it comes to points. Good sense of humor.
simple as this: if you want to get an easy grade , take him cuz you can cheat on all his tests and quiz but if you want to learn something , dont take him cuz i dont really understand his lecture
He's a good teacher. His grading methods are fair. He is helpful when you ask him questions. His quizzes are easy as long as you do your work!!
Go to class for quizzes, but expect to teach yourself statistics. He should be teaching a stats class to graduate students because he knows too much. Gets frustrated with people because they don't know enough. Lecture = waste of time. Not especially hard.
Professor Yu really means well for his students. Just read the chapter/lesson before going to his class and you'll understand it better after his lecture. His quizes actually made me understand the material better. i enjoyed his class.
"Ain't nobody understand the words that are coming out of your mouth." Show up for the quiz, teach yourself stats at home. Tests are open books, notes, everything ... Pathetic!
Easy Class. Just go to class to take the quiz. (Open Book, Open Notes) Don't come to listen to his lectures. They are useless. Very confusing to understand. And oh, expect to teach yourself b/c no one understands what he's talkin about.
This teacher is extremely confusing and hard to understand. He expects you to understand all the material that he lectures on. He does not like to help students during class or answer questions, when people ask questions it makes him irritated.
Great professor! If you want an A or a passing grade, just do your reading and homework. Oh, and make sure to show up to class everyday for the quizzes. The quizzes are easy when you do your homework before hand.
quizzes everyday, homework every week. took him during the evening and he was very lenient. midterms/final seem impossible to do. it will take you forever and day to finish. homeworks are easy. good teacher although his english is hard to understand.
Very good teacher. If you do homework, you'll understand everything that will be on the test and in the lecture. Open book/notes=A PLUS!!! Too bad the tests take forever!
he teachs only few chapter from textbook and mainly from his handouts. he wants to teach you something useful. hw, 2 midterm & final, open book and notes. only test you on what he taught. if you did all the hw you will be fine with tests. giving bonus hw problems to earn extra credit. nice guy!
He is hard to understand at times, but**** HIS THE VERY BEST OUT OF OTHER 190 OR 90 TEACHERS AT SJSU. He is also very caring and just show him respect as he tries to teach instead of ****ing about how you cant understand him. Dr. Yu did not ask you to take him as a teacher. You probably are tak
Do not take this teacher. He's pretty crazy, and doesn't know what he's talking about most of the time. Made me sick to my stomach trying to get through his thick accent.
There are different opinions about him. Personally, he cannot teach. I felt like he was teaching himself & not the class. Try to find someone better, his tests r open book/notes, but they barely help. I believe he lectured, i don't believe he TAUGHT anything.
BEST teacher 4 BUS190 FOR busines mayors...Grading criteria awesome (Based on points)...give many extra credit points..2 mids, hws, final, and cas...STUDY, you will be fine...HIGHLY RECOMMEND, 2 thumps up wake up.....
overall not bad. other ones are worse. do the HW and pay attention. extra credit is there. do well on first test! it is hard to understand him sometimes. he is as fair as they get
His class is Challenging but when I had him (last semester), you only needed 55% to pass with a "C". Plus he gave our class the better of our 2 midterms so if you got a "B" on one test then he gives you a "B" for both tests. Also, he gives partial credit on the tests.
So far so good. Grades on total points scored. Lots of Extra Credit. Do all homeworks and be respectful. He is caring for students and fair. Does have accent, but not a big deal (I'm from another country and I don't have a hard time understanding him for the most part). Very creative teaching style.

Easiest 190 teacher - simple homework problems with tons of extra credit, open notes on the exams, open questions in class, and he goes over homework until you understand it. Easy B, but only if you pay attention and take good notes.
If you want to be confused, take this class. He is good at doing that to you. The man can't teach that's why he was booted out of Santa Clara. It's ridiculous. He's also afraid of confrontations. If you have him, see him in his office, you'll know what I mean. I didn't learn anything. Book=$130
An OK professor, kinda bored me out in class. He gives you open book during the midterm and final so I just learned everything then.
He is super easy. Just do the hmwrk, extra credit, and make sure you know the problems he does on the broad. Open book exams. I took him during winter session I got an A. TAKE HIM!!! GPA BOOSTER!
Very confusing teacher. His teaching style is unclear and he gets annoyed when students asks questions. Tests are open book open note because people don't do well on them. Out of 170pts, he gives another 40pts extra credit because people fail them. Nobody finishes on time because test takes too much time. Overall Easy class but boring teacher.
This guy is easy. All you have to do is follow his lectures with the book. He does examples from book. He only gets annoyed when people ask STUPID questions because they don't follow along. Tests are kinda hard though, but he gives a lot of extra credit assignments. He also explains quiz materials before quizzes, so quizzes are easy. OPENBOOK!
HE HAS NO IDEA WHAT HE'S TALKING ABOUT!!! HE DOES NOT TEACH YOU ANYTHING AND THEN GIVES OUT AN EXAM TOTALLY UNRELATED TO THE BOOK!!! CAN'T LEARN FROM HIS LECTURES AND CAN'T LEARN FROM THE BOOK. THIS CLASS IS A RECIPE FOR FAILURE!!!
Took his 2hr 45min class. Take it if you want an easy A or B. Easy open book tests, gives a quiz every class about 30 minutes in but switching to really easy homework I think. If you like to ditch class, take him and just leave after the quiz, thats what I did.
TAKE HIS CLASS CUZ SOMEHOW YOU WILL GET A GOOD GRADE EVEN THOUGH YOU SHOULD DESERVE A "D". TRUST ME, HIS EXAMS ARE LONG AND RIDICULOUSLY HARD BECAUSE HE CAN'T TEACH FOR ****! BUT HEY ...YOU'LL SUFFER THE SEMESTER..BUT IN THE END YOU GET A GOOD GRADE!
this teacher is the easiest one i ever took. i barely studied and got an A+ for the class. he offers a lot of extra credit
He clearly knows his stuff but he is one disorganized person. He writes all over the board in different spots, and does not explain very well. Gives lots of extra credit and quizes every week, with open book. Go to class every time but teach yourself while he is lecturing instead and you will get an A!
Gives alot of xtra cred and open book exams. I think 50% of the grade equals a C or something like that. He is a bad lecturer, unclear and goes way too fast w/o explaining. His exams are also difficult to complete on time. I got a B for the class which was surprising, thought I'd get a lower grades but all the extra credit work paid off.
YUCK YUCK YUCK! gawd i just checked my grade. BIG FAT F!!! bad lecturer. not good with explaining things. very confusing. book was a lil confusing. he picks on you first few weeks of school so pay attention. actually, don't bother taking this professor. very hard subject for me. ugh..
He is an easy grader, gives many extra credit. although his test is quite long, as long as you study what he asks you to study, you will do fine. EASY A+
Good Prof. If you know basic algebra you should get an A. He jumps around in lecture sometimes, but he always explains things in the end. Lots of HW & bonus too - do both and you will do well on the tests which are open notes & book. Curves the grades. Yu is willing to help everyone. If you can't hack it - go back to high school math class.
OMG he's the best 190 teacher to take. (I think even better than Davis.) He's so easy cuz he gives so much extra-credit. Do hw, they are hella easy too. Tests are open book/notes but you gotta work fast to get through them. He's really funny too. Man this class was awsome! I'd definitley take him again if I needed to.
Here's the truth. Summer '05 class. It was a disaster; however, I did get a good grade. I am an honor student. For those of you who are a little on the slow side, this is definitely not for you. He is confusing, disorganized, and rude at times. I witnessed people cheating on the exams, copying from each other. This class is a joke. Nothing gained.
Only uses his notes without enough information.
The best teacher for 190.
Prof Yu means well,he makes tests open notes and gives extra credit. However,he loses much of what he is trying to teach in translation. If your willing to put in a little work and read the book you'll do fine. This class will make your life the easiest since he only gives one super easy project. There are much more difficult prof's.
Professor Yu has good intentions, its just he cant teach worth S**t. Most of the class failed the midterms, so he had to curve at the end. Take someone else if you can, you will learn so much more.
stay away from him. He is orginially an engineering teacher. He cannot teach anyone but himself. If you're naturally smart take him, but if you're a typical business student like me who is more of a literal visual learner, don't take him b/c he teaches like we're stats scientist. You've been warned.
she is really easy. everything is wide open, hates on students.
190 is a very hard class, Yu is the lesser of all evils. Open book exams, still don't help b/c he doesn't teach with book and his instructions can be unclear. If you have strong math skills you will be fine, if not, go with another prof. He will be rude to you and belittle you in class and in his office.
Prof.Yu CAN NOT teach. Exams are open book, but it doesn't help since you'll never use the book. His class sounds easy at the begining, but everything is vague. He never describes anything, simply faces the board and start writing. & don't even bother asking him any question, he won't answer, even if he does, he'll just confuse you more.
I did a little above average on his first exam and a 55 out of 170 on his second exam and still managed to pass the class. His lectures are hard to follow because he goes really fast, but concentrate on his homework because he'll put similar problems on the exam. He'll even tell you what types of problems are on the exam so pay attention!
Dr. Yu is hard to understands at time, and can get very mad if you do not understand some of the lessons. He calls random people of the roll sheet to answer questions, so know how to do the problems. He also claims to know all the famous mathematicians. The grading scale is not very clear, but it is in the advantage of the student.
Topics discussed during class are very well planned out. He goes over everything that is going to be on the test, so take notes on the day before the test/midterm and you'll be fine. Even better if you are to compound the notes and use it on the day of the test. Sometimes the topics can be confusing, pay attention, and you can easily get an A.
Nice guy, reasonable class, good presenter (his accent is NOT bad). Considerable about of work and problem sets. Don't pass up the extra credit. Tests looks similar to homework. Group project and presentation puts you at the mercy of the class, don't expect a high grade, unless you work for it.
VERY HARD class. Very hard. On the final, when the time was up, only one person was done. I did not have time to finish any of his exams and final was veryyyyy hard.
The tests are straight forward if you understand the homework problems. He was helpful during office hours.
Direct approach in teaching method (only what you need to know), very easy to understand. Student presentations help understand material a bit deeper. Very fair exams (open books, no trick questions). Got A+. Highly recommended.
He is a very nice professor.. and your homework and your review will be the same problems on the test. Open book & open handouts.. THE MATERIAL is so so so hard though.. Make sure you TRY
Took this over the summer and I passed this class the second time around with a C+. If you need help/tips let me know.
Great teaching style. Teaches from his experience. Lot to learn. Easy to get A.
u need the book but only for hw problems because he teaches very clearly. he makes sure everyone gets it before moving on to a new topic. but watch out, when u ask a question, he may respond like ur dumb, but he's really helpful. go to class or you'll be lost. lots of hw probs to boost up ur grade. easy 3-5 pg paper due final day
horrible professor....this fool is VERY unclear about how he grades..says there is a curve..but then later when u ask him he plays games with you saying there is no curve..tests are 10 times harder then anything u have imagined. most of the class ends up depressed after the tests and ends up repeating the class.

Dr. Yu is not so bad. I know he is very unclear, but the almost 100 bonus points that he offers throughout the semester makes up for it BIG time. He is cool when it comes to freebies. The homework is pretty easy, but the midterms are a bit tricky. In the end, it shouldn't be hard to get an A- .. an A is another story. He's cool in my book!
I studied hard and got a D, hey at least I passed. It was a hard class and very unclear
He's got money, he has this job as a retirement time waster. Helps out with the concepts, but is hard to understand with his accent. Gives out quizzes and EC to assist those that can't grasp the concepts well. It's a 'just get it over with' class.
I did all the hw. Attended every class. Got an A on a test and I still got a D in the class. He knows his stuff, but he cant explain s**t. You use the book only for a few hw problems. Very hard class. Not Recommended. Unless your a math genius.
The extra credit saved me but his tests were confusing. Most of the time most of the class had confused looks on their faces and Dr. Yu was oblivious. I will say that he is helpful if you go to the office hours. Overall, very hard/confusing class but he gives you a good chance with all the extra credit.
I studied with the tutor, went to his office and ended up with a D. I'm sorry for anybody who will take bus 190, there is no professor that is worth taking. Dr. Yu is the best choice, but you might end up with a D, which is a passing grade
I took him during winter session. He is a cool guy and i like his teaching style. He tries so hard to make the hard material as clear as possible. Dont blame him, blame the material. Make sure you study and do your HW because the test will be similar to the HW. He is also very helpful if you go to his office and ask during class. Recommended!!
This is tough material. Yu tries to present the easiest methods, which mostly are neither in the book nor the handouts. If you want to pass this course attend EVERY class. Some topics require more than one meeting to explain. Yu is pretty generous with bonus points, so take advantage of all of them - you'll need it!
Professor explains the material pretty well, don't blame on the teacher blame on the material. It is a very tough class and it takes up alot of time to do his homework. Tests are super long and require alot of math skill. So take advantage of in class extra credit and also assigns extra credit on the homework.
In order to undertsand and keep up with the material you need to go to class everyday. The tests are hard and very long. My class didn't have enough time to finish any of the tests and he doesn't curve. This class requires a lot of time and attention. I'm an A/B student and I receieved a D. Just a warning.
Pros: easy on grading; at some point during semester I felt pity for him because he wanted all students to pass the class that he started giving bonus points just for an attempt to answer his questions(not for the correct answer), which also showed that he lacked dignity. Cons: has some accent which makes him sometimes hard to understand.
EXTREMELY difficult to understand. Not helpful at all! Every time we asked questions he got very angry and would not answer them. I asked for a break-down of my class grade a month and a half before finals and still to this day have not seen it. Majority of the class failed the final and recieved D's in the class.
Just go to class everyday and ask questions when you don't understand something. If you do that, then you won't really need to review from the book. Assigns HW from the book. Make sure to go to class when he reviews since he practically tells you what will be on the test and gives you examples to test yourself.
Professor Yu covers the material so that you basically know what will be on the exams. You must do your part and listen and be tentative. His grading system consists of 2 midterms, 12 homework assignments, 1 project, and the final exam. Frankly, if you listen to his lecture and do the homework - there is no reason why you can't get at least a B+.

I thought I was going to get a C & ended up with a A. Just do the hw, go to the tutoring center for help, a& do the extra credit. The w isn't hard as long as you follow his lecture. SIT IN FRONT! Don't sit in the back, he writes tiny. He doesn't answer ?s nicely. The project was easy. He has a study day where he tells you what is on the exam.
You can learn something from his lecture if you are a motivative person. Homework is very important, usually is what on the tests. If you do whatever you suppose to do in the class, you will definitely get a good grade. Sometimes lecture is hard to understand, so asking specific questions would help a lot. 1 thing is that you have to pay for book.
textbook was used twice only cost $180, exam q's are are totally different than hw or lecture materials but they are important for ur grade, not at all helpful cuz he would get frustrated at the class, office hours are for his own personal use since he wants u in n out there asap whether ur q's are answered or not. work real hard, B is possible.
want to spend 8hr/day for 190, his class is for you! exams are extremely hard!!! HE CANT TEACH, he LECTURES. unles you're great at math and loves it, otherwise you'll fail miserably in his class, or get tutoring everyday.
I DO NOT recommend him unless you are willing to work hard. I worked hard, did all hw, paper, extra credit, attended all of his classes. B+ on midterm and STILL ENDED WITH C. Not sure how that is possible.
DO NOT take his class! This guy is crazy with Math HW. I took him summer 2007, Mr. Yu gives problems that's like 10 lines long, which takes forever to solve. Expects HW to be handed in every class, Exams are so much worse. If you TAKE him, do not ever take him in the summer (for your GPA). He is not a good teacher and hie method is just terrible.
This class overall is hard, but Prof. Yu tries to make it as easy as possible to understand. Tests are open notes and book and gives out extra points every class so participate!! A lot of homework problems BUT they will be on the tests so it's very helpful!
190 is a tough course no matter who your prof is. Dr. Yu does try to help the students as much as possible with bonus points. The keys to getting a good grade are attending every class, taking notes and doing ALL hw (24% of grade). He gives u the problems that will b on the test but just different numbers! I got a B in the class, take him!
You barely use the book. If you go to class, you will be confused. Going to see his grader or one of the tutors helps a lot. You will spend an entire class completely confused..then the tutor will explain it to you in under 5 minutes. He does try to help by offereing EC. Do not go see him in his office hours, he does not like being bothered,
Very straight forward teaching. His lectures consist of doing homework problems. Lots of extra credit.
Was not impressed with his teaching style.Felt completely lost the entire semester. His grader tried to charge people $20/hour to tutor, but then told Yu that he was feeling overloaded so he couldn't tutor us.Little feedback on homework or what we are doing wrong. No one in the tutor center knew how to help us.Was not helpful! DO NOT TAKE HIM!!!
He's full of himself. Really funny. Not that hard, does a lot of the homework for you. He gives you the problems for the midterms, just changes the numbers. If you have a brain, you can pass his class.
I had an A in this class. I had an A on both midterms, an A on the hw, most likely an A on the term paper, and then came the final which was so much harder than it had to be. I could have spent 4 hours on that final. It is worth 34% of your grade, and it is impossible.
Attendance is mandatory because he teaches you exactly how to do everything you need to know for the homework.Tests are very identical to homework just different numbers.Go to class everyday and do all the homework and you will get an A.I failed only because I would miss a day, then miss a problem on the test.Tests are only 3 problems...AUTO D! :(
Dont take him with you dont like math. Midterm and Final are very hard.
A door knob can teach better than this prof. He only grades higher to those people who show him attitude. He only gives priority to talk to people he wants to talk to and ignores the rest. He grades really hard on tests.
I'm an A student trying my best to do go in classes. I did all my homework and did very good on the midterm. I still failed the class. He gives bonus points, but not worth passing the class. Totally not recommended.
Avoid this professor he is so hard and boring. Exams are very long and hard. There is a finals project, two midterms and final. Lots of homework. Be prepare to spend many hours at the tutoring center if you want to understand a bit of the class. He graded a hard, not on a curb and is interested only in students who respond to his questions.
Good guy, very smart, take notes, notes are given to you for open-note tests. Nice guy if you get to know him.
Yu Professor is the best one in SJSU with wonderful instruction. His instructions are very helpful for tests and final. So, It is very easy to get A when you understand whatever he instructed. You must take his class to enjoy seeing him teaching.
HIGHLY RECOMMENDED! Professor Yu respects students. Tests are clear and reviewed in class. Do homework and bonuses (easy). 1 term paper (easy). Ask help from tutors and the professor when needed. Easy A!!! YOU SHOULD TAKE HIS CLASS
Dude can't teach. Rushes through the example problems and notes. Gets mad or irritated when students ask him questions. Has favorites. Seems like he can't wait for class to be over. Took his summer course 4hrs 2x a week but the max time we spent in class is 5-6 hrs a week.He gives alot of bonus questions on the hw and class. DONT TAKE HIM!!!PERIOD
class subject overall is hard, but he trys to help by giving students homework groups (if you utilize.. they really help!) and for each test he goes over almost exact problems from it. there is never unexpected questions. accent is not a problem, so no worries. sometimes his grading is a bit odd? gives partial credit, but its usually not much.
He gets frustrated when students dont understand. If you go to his office hours he goes through problems but seems to get annoyed with questions. Tutoring center only has a few tutors that understand what he teaches. Also a paper in this class that he only discusses once but is 10% of you grade. Aviod if possible.
okay, to be honest, his class was not that hard when i took him in spring 2010, especially to the point that 90% of the questions were directly from his lecture and we had notes with us. i think the final was long, and had a major part of final grade. The essay was easy. you just have to understand him, nothing hard+ regret not trying, easy B!
If you have a hard time with math, don't take him. He goes through the examples so fast and doesn't respond well to questions. He is hard to understand and not clear. Most of my class has to go to the tutoring center to learn the material. The tutors are so overwhelmed that it is now hard to get your questions answered. Only 2 tutors can help you
DO NOT TAKE HIM PERIOD. No one had time to finish his midterm because there were so many questions, and not enough time.He rushes through examples and doesn't make sense. If math is hard for you, skip this class. You will be happy you did.
He was not helpful at all. Very little feedback from assignments and exams. Did not understand what was being taught. If you ask for help, he'll reply back in a condescending matter. He can't teach.
Horrible Class with a teacher who does not know how to teach. He is smart but he should not be a teacher. Avoid at all costs with prof. YU He yelled at us and called students dumb if you ask questions. He's a 10 year so even complaining doesn't do any good. I lived at the tutoring dept to pass but worst class and worst teacher at school
Horrible professor, pretty sure I failed this class. Gives long exams that are only 4 questions but worth 150pts. It took the class the entire time to finish the final. Even though it is open book/notes, it doesnt help. The exams are extremely harder than examples given in class.
took it during the summer 2012, sample exam were given and discussed in class. what else do u need to pass this class, material is not that hard (math in deanza harder) i got a B+ with my eyes close
Super easy class, easy A, lots of extra credits, I'm not good at math but I got A, go to tutor if u don't understand anything, it helps a lot. Good luck and trust me:)
Two midterms (150 pts each) and 1 final (350 pts). 15 group homework (20 pts each) and 1 term paper (100 pts) He gave a lot of extra credits for those who responded his questions in the class. He gave and explained sample tests prior any exams. You only failed if you were lazy & didn't pay attention at class. I got an "A" with over 1000 pts total.
HIGHEST RECOMMEND!One of the best professors at SJSU! He is very person! I like his teaching style! Even though the context of the course is hard, you participate in the class dissussions and get the full extra credit(100 points). The tests are easy if you are smart and prepare enough ! Easy receive A!
Nicest professor, study hard and review his notes before each midterm, easy A :)
Not my style.
He has no business teaching.
This is the worst professor ever! There are many better teachers out there instead of this guy. He does not even grade the assignments/tests, he has some tutor do it. That means if you have a question about grading you have to go find out who she is on your own time. Everyone in the class is doing bad and he does not care at all!!!
He thinks all the stuffs are easy because he knows them all.Do not take his class if you may miss even one class. I was not able to get help from him,and the tutor's schedule was random. so I asked to other tutors, but they had no idea how to solve prof.Yu's homework...
Terrible professor. He has a very aggressive teaching style (yelled at class when we answered incorrectly and even called a student dumb), which makes him very unapproachable. The only positive: his exam reviews are the exact same problems but with different numbers. He makes that class miserable.
He claims that there are extra credits but no one really gets them. You better make sure your homework solutions are CORRECT if you want to show the entire class the steps to get points or else he belittles students with condescending attitude. Get a self-study group to focus on homework to help w exams. Very old school. I''m thankful it''s over.
He seems picky but he's a good professor. Two midterms, 14-15 homework assignments, and a final. He goes over the homework beforehand. Tests are exactly the same as the his review problems so make sure you attend class on review day. 10% extra credit available !
picky about how he wants things done. must follow an algorithm precisely. lots of extra credit opportunities. all you have to do is participate. exam reviews... basically giving out the test format. term paper isnt so bad. good class overall.
His 190 class was easy. His explanation is confusing at times, but if you do the 15 homeworks and attend each test review day before each test, it is very easy. 2 Midterms, 15 homework, 1 final, 1 term project paper and 10% extra credits. The tutor wasn't helpful at times, so reading book is a key if not understanding. He was nice through. I got A
EASY CLASS! Show up and get an A! Tests exactly the same as reviews.. open book, open notes, open everything except computer. Extra credit: 10% of overall grade available.
He is the worst professor I ever had at SJSU. He is expecting that we know everything already. It's really hard to follow his explaination, because he skips steps since it is "common sense". He call out names from the roster to answer random questions. Take someone else if you can't make it to every class, take good notes, and super GOOD at math.
Easy!
Good teacher overall. He breaks down the tests and lets you know exactly what to study. Also covers a lot of the homework in class.
AVOID this professor. He is VERY unorganized and never explains things clearly. There are 15 HW assignments, 2 midterms, and 1 final. Each HW is 20 pts but if you miss one little thing, he will deduct 5 pts which is ridiculous. Tests are open notes but very hard. The only good thing about him is that he gives a lot of extra credit opportunities.
Professor Yu is one of my favorite professor! He is nice, helpful, and he would like to give hella extra credits! I HW is important, and if you have any questions on HW, just go to his office hour, he would like to explain to you. Besides, he will give study guide for midterm and final, it is the same thing on the exams! Love him!!!!
This class is kind of easy, but at the same time it requires a lot of focus and attention.I learned it the hard way because the professor goes through it really fast. Another thing is that the BBC tutoring center doesn't have a tutor specific for his class, the only tutoring and assistance that you can get is through him since noone knows his stuff
Professor Yu is a good professor. He is very helpful and his material is quite easy to understanding. He may be intimidating, and may call you out on the spot, but only does it to your advantage-- to help you understand the material. His exam are extremely easy, but the final was not. Textbook is NOT necessary, even though he may say it is.
QBA is a tough course, and he's not always clear on explanations. But if you go to class he basically shows you how the homework is done and be sure to arrive for midterm final reviews. He tells you exactly what is on the exam, but just changes the numbers! 3 midterms, 1 final, 1 project, and 15 homework assignments.
Bruh, he only lectures to half of the class. I cannot see the board because this fool is a door, not a window. On Moms, i cannot understand half of the things he tries to explain, or even say. Thank Harambe he lectures slower than a turtle, but he is constantly making mistakes. Avoid this guy and save yourself 1,000 headaches. Gang Gang
I've honestly never had a worse professor. His explanations make little sense whether in lecture or on his PowerPoint. Everything is worded in such a weird way. The homework problems are badly worded too. The only good thing is he does the homeworks in class so you see what he does but if you do it by yourself you'll fail. No partial credit on hw
Whoever is grading his homeworks and tests is absurd. I missed 5 points on a question I got entirely right, and got 0/90 points on questions where i clearly showed my (correct) work and how I arrived at the answer that ended up being wrong. Avoid this class like the plague.
Dr. Yu is very caring and has a different method of teaching. Some students think that he is messy on the board and this could be true. However, it is not that bad. There is too much exaggeration about that. If you turn up for class, know how to do the homework and meet him for office hours, its a guaranteed A+ Best Professor in SJSU for me!
This is a class from hell. QBA is the toughest class you can take as a business major. Use the tutor as often as possible.
Quite a few homework assignments but he goes over the problems before hand and basically gives you the answers. He also tells you the types of problems that will be on exams, so attending review sessions is essential. All exams are open note, open book but you should still understand concepts to make the best use of your time. 1 fairly easy project
Difficult to understand and sloppy notes. HW given counts for 100pts. Extra credit up to 100pts and by participation. Use tutors in Jack Holland Success Center. HW can be quite difficult. Given study guide and goes over examples. Flexible if you turn in hw during office hours. Miss class you won't pass. 15HW, 2 exams, 1 final and one paper due.
BUS 190 is probably one of the hardest subjects to understand in business. Use the Jack Holland Tutor center so useful when it comes to this class. He can be unclear, but just follow up in his office hours. All test are open note and open book. PARTICIPATE as much as you can. Half the points on exam #2 and adds it to exam #1 if you failed.
This class is extremely difficult if you are not good at math. Unclear lectures and jumps around a lot. He does NOT have a step by step teaching style. Class consists of 15 hw assignments, 2 midterms, and final. He gives bonus problems and class participation for extra credit. Pay close attention to midterm and final reviews!!
He is very unorganized on his lectures. His lectures are jumping all around the place and his hand writing is small and messy. If you really want to take his class, prepare to teach yourself for everything! The only good thing for his class is that he will review the tests and go over the hw questions.
I'm better than avg at math but not a genius. Overall, the class was pretty easy and straight forward. He lets you use notes and hw, but as others said he is very disorganized. I got near perfect scores on the midterms and did all my hw, but for the final review, he didn't go over crucial parts for a question and i tanked it so it destroyed my A.
Prof Yu is by far the worst professor I've ever taken. Very unclear, confusing , and disorganized. He makes no sense at all. Very sloppy handwriting. Writes on the board all over the place and really hard to keep up. Avoid him all at cost if you want to save yourself the agony of his lectures. Take Klein if you can
This was the first time in my college career that I needed a tutor. I would not have understood much of anything if I had just relied on the professors lectures. The concepts are easy but he is just so confusing and skims over topics like we should already know what to do. Only good thing was that exams are open book but even that did not help much
Material is hard and if you dont like participating look for another professor
He was probably THE most confusing teacher I have ever taken. He is not clear with how he got a specific number in a problem. I would ask him "professor, how did you get that number?" "ITS SIMPLE! just do that and that and its the law of this and thats how you get that!" He then vaguely points at the board or writes over his work. Get a Tutor.....
The class itself is pretty tough. If you miss a class you'll be lost. Class consists of 1 homework problem due every week, 2 midterms and final (tests and homework, he DOES IT FOR YOU as a review and just changes the numbers and you can use notes), and a paper which is making your own type of problem. Book Req for last hw problems.
He's very knowledgeable, but his method of teaching is awkward and usually jumped to different theories which ended up losing track which make everything super confusing. Although he does show the method to do the homework, you're tied to that method only. There're opportunities to get extra credits in class so it's best to ask and answer him a lot
I got mixed feelings. Super easy A if you're generally good at math and you take really good notes. Exams are open book so notes help a lot. Exams/HW are exactly like the examples in class, but he changes the numbers. He can be quite rude if the class doesn't know the answer/isn't responsive or if someone asks a "dumb" question. 100pts extra credit
The homework is hard, til you understand it. Understand it and exams are easy. He tells you exactly what is on the exams, except for the actual numbers used! Skip class, you wont understand the homework and .. not understand the exams. Dont fall behind. That being said, he is difficult to understand and gets impatient easily.
Professor Yu is the worst professor I've had at my time at SJSU. Doesn't know how to explain the material, gets mad at you for asking clarifying questions, and you will get 0's on your homework if you don't get the right answer. This man should not be a teacher! He just likes the power. Get any other professor you can.
If you ask him a question he snarks at you. There are always though professors who are like "don't ask me last minute because you don't understand anything" but when you do ask them a question they look at you like you're stupid. ???? The point of being a prof is to teach, not everyone knows the answer or understand the information given to them...
Worst teacher I've had to date. He gets mad at you for asking questions but that is because he doesn't know how to teach! I don't know where he got got his teaching credentials but he should go back and relearn how to teach. Gives you a zero on a homework he has not spent a single second talking about. Gives a problem and expects you to be Einstein
Lockdown browser+webcam, his mic doesn't work so you can't even hear him explaining how to do the homeworks and class averages an F on exams, avoid at all costs.
just don't.
Horrible fckin teacher! Do not sign up with this guy. Professor Yu should seriously retire. He is a very nice guy but he is not a good teacher. He will get MAD at YOU for asking questions and that makes students not want to ask. He grades so hard on the HW assignments like wtf, we are still learning the material! . DONT DO IT!!
The biggest flaw about Oliver is that he knows the material himself so well that he simply says a few nonsense words about a lesson as a review for himself, and then expects you to know as much as he does. Tough grader for assignments we barley understand and we can't ask a lot of questions bc he'll get mad. Don't do it. Hands down worst professor.
Weekly homework. 3 exams. 1 term paper. Unclear grading criteria, term paper was based on his personal feelings about the topic rather than the calculations that were done. His mic doesn't work so its incredibly hard to understand him. Gives a ton of extra credit (he knows its the only way his students will pass). AVOID!
Professor Yu is a hard teacher and heavy lectures. There are 2 exam a midterm and final, but they are difficult(open notes). Lockdown browser and camera, around 23 homework assignments and if you dont participate you will loose points from your grade, so talk during class. I would not take him again. He shouted at our classmates too. GOOD LUCK!
He likes to yell at people when they ask questions, but still expects the class to ask questions for participation. His grading structure is beyond horrible, and his teaching methods are even worse. I would never take this professor again and would not reccomend anyone else take him. Worst experience ive ever had........
This class is hard, no doubt about it but if you follow his lectures and do his homework, you will do great. His homework is the exam, he goes over the homework so that you understand, and it will be on the test. Tit for tat. Simple as that. He gives a lot of extra credit opportunities to improve your grade so take advantage of that.
The material covered is pretty hard and if you miss 1 class you will most definitely be lost so make sure you find a good study group. He gives a lot of extra credit: answer a question, ask a question, etc. because he knows 90% of students will fail without it... but he has hearing problems and clowns students for asking "obvious" questions
how did i go from an A- before the final to a C+ without even knowing my score/what i missed... this guy is a joke
Literally an excuse of a professor. I still can't believe that this guy is a teacher for this class. He literally yells at EVERY student when they ask questions. Stay away if you are a visual learner because he does NOT show you where what numbers come from where when doing the problems and uses a pre-made vague ppt slide. He made me hate life.
I took Professor Yu last winter section January 2022. The course lasts 2 and a half weeks. Even though the concepts is hard to understand; it is hard because it relates to math, not because of the Professor, he is patient and easy. provide 1130/1000 point. A lot of extra points, no way you do not get a good grade in his class.
He doesn't understand questions. He likes to answer "Where did these two numbers come from? or what's the equation to find these numbers?" with "You tell me!" He is not helpful and he just expects you to understand. He is not knowledgeable in excel and requires all calculations done by hand. He teaches different concepts than other teachers.
If you know your math, you'll be fine. If not, then good luck bc you're gonna need it!
I'm not the best at math, so I wasn't excited to take prof Yu. I failed both midterms, both out of 150. BUT I received full credit on every HW. Gather a study group, participate because it'll help your grade, and HE GIVES ALOT OF EC. It is IMPOSSIBLE to fail this course, even if you're bad at math. He's not the best, but you'll def pass.
HW is 95% similar to the exam, he just changes the numbers. Gather a study group and learn the material together. Prof Yu gives a TON of EC, it's impossible to fail the course. Just show up, learn, participate, and do the hw. He's a little hard to understand sometimes but even if you're bad at math, he will give you a ton of extra credit to pass.
Professor Yu seems like he means well but he doesn't portray this through his teaching. While he does assign a lot of extra credit and participation points, his exams are very hard and he has no mercy in his grading style. If you aren't too great at math or are looking to graduate with honors, I promise this class is not for you.
The course itself wasn't that bad. The good thing is the exams are almost identical to the homework. So at least if you understand the homework you will do very well on the exams. The downside is he doesn't show you how to do things step by step. As a visual learner, I'm thankful for my tutor. Without him I would've not passed.
Underrated professor: PROS 1) thoroughly explains and goes over each homework assignment so you can correct your mistakes. 2) exams are open note and based EXACTLY on the homework with slightly different numbers. 3) 100 points of extra credit graded out of 1000 points but total points are 1100.
CONS: 1) participation by asking questions 5 points per day 80 points total, distracts from lecture and is not always easy to ask relevant questions 2) often skips intermediary steps making it hard to follow along sometimes 3) expects mastery of prerequisite course material, if you ask how he did a step involving it, will be snarky but will explain
Hard class, but you can use any notes for the exam. Be sure to attend the lectures and ask your fellow peers for help on HW because the professor isn't helpful at all. Not sure if it will be the same for future classes, but he did not finish grading our final exams, which meant that all this studying was for nothing.
