seems tough but the final is cake
Fun teacher. Likes alot of class input. Be sure to remind him to give you a test review.
Rockstar!
Overall, a good professor. Likes class input and will call on people who don't wish to answer. Quizzes are fairly easy if the T.A. makes them. Not all material is covered in lecture but he likes to expand on concepts a lot. I would recommend.
I wouldn't say attendance is MANDATORY, but the attendance points help average out average test grades, so I would recommend going, not to mention he is fun and a good time. Sit through his Intro, and then open up more intimate courses later on where you can talk to him directly, like social problems, it's a blast and a half.
Only take Dr. Oyinlade if you have an interest in sociology. Attendance isnt necessarily mandatory but you get 5 points for every class that you show up to, and they add up quickly. He often calls on random people during class so if he thinks you arent paying attention, watch out. He isnt a bad guy, just not a fantastic teacher.
His classes are certainly not easy. The grade is based off three tests and a handful of attendance points. I would HIGHLY recommend reading the textbook! His test are not easy and lots of questions come out of the book. Don't ever plan on getting out of class even a minute early and also stick around till the end because he takes attendance last.
took for intro to sociology does not demand you be in class every day but does give extra credit for it. To get a good grade read or skim the text show up to class and go to the reviews.
If you are really interested in Sociology stay away! This guy gives it a bad name - he will tell you he has all the answers, that no one has a free will, people are just mindless robots at the mercy of social structures...please. Another mark of a bad teacher, he tells students not to come see him but his aide instead. his class is pretty easy tho
Overall a really good teacher! Will teach you everything you need to know in class. I didn't use the book much. The stuff he wants you to get out of the book he will note in class. Very easy to pay attention for me....i suppose. Probably the most interesting instructor I've ever had!
He a really great teacher and he can really teach. Just for your information,if you can't stay awake or pay attention then don't take this teacher. He a teacher that teach students that are willing to pass his class and attend class everyday!
If you are just taking this as a req. course, fine, but if you really have a strong interest in sociology take someone else. He is completely arrogant and thinks he knows everything, but he can't even speak english correctly. This class was boring and poorly taught. Learning about guys like Weber and Marx in other classes made me see how bad he is.
The class was extremely easy. I didn't buy the textbook and I still passed with a firm B. I hardly paid attention during class and I barely studied. The grade is comprised of 3 tests and 3 extra credit quizzes (amongst other EC opportunities). All 3 tests were very easy and contained many joke answers. Take this class if you want an easy grade.
good teacher-3tests+3ec quizes.I found his tests pretty easy but the class averages were 60-75%. He believes he knows everything but is open to debate. He relates lots of concepts to sex in some manner. He literaly wrote the book for this class so a lot of what he says is rebeated verbatim. Prbly dont need it if you attend class, but a good review.
Great teacher! Go to class take notes and participate and you will receive a good great.
One of the better professors at UNO. Enthusiastic lecturer. Gets students involved in discussion (will call on random students and press them until they give an answer). Has a fairly thick accent, but pretty easy to understand. Book was not needed. The lectures are sufficient to get an A. Also...wears a bow tie every single day. Awesome bow ties.
Participate in class and it will be an eye-opening experience. This guy is a genius.
terrible
Very hard. Grades are based off of 4 tests, and attendance points. Nice professor, not so good teaching skills
Decent professor. 3 to 4 tests of average difficulty. Uses a book he wrote himself, so a lot of students skip class and just read the book.
Great instructor. Kept it interesting. If you go to class most of the time, take notes and participate you will get an easy A. If not the you might want to reconsider investing any more money into college.
Great guy. Best class I've ever taken. Learned so much, and he really kept the lecture interesting. Easy intro class!
Great professor! Just show up to class, take notes and participate and you will do fine. He's a really good guy who cares about his students.
Took the online class and was very disappointed. Test questions were very poorly written showing little to no understanding of the text. Assignments were not hard, just difficult to relay points and a discussion through emails. Would not recommend online.
Such a great class. Mainly lecturing, but it's interesting. He's pretty funny. Strong accent, but nothing impossible. Tests and quizzes are all online, he allows working with classmates, and using notes. Super easy if you attend class. Extra credit points for attendance. 1010 would recommend his class.
This class is a joke.
Excellent professor. Extremely engaging with his students. He made sociology so interesting to learn about. His tests try to trick you every now and then, but overall they are not too challenging. I studied for his final maybe for an hour and got a B-. Really fun class overall.
At first he seems like he would be a horrible professor, but as the semester goes on his sense of humor comes out. He also gets really passionate about what he's lecturing on. Being late to class is also not okay with him. He's tough, but he's very intelligent and a good professor to have.
If you are planning on taking a sociology class at UNO, he is your man.
This class was very interesting and the concepts you learn definitely help you better understand the workplace and organizations. Dr. Oyinlade is very intelligent, professional, and humorous. Take a class with him!
Professor Oyinlade is a very classy man. He's very knowledgeable about the subject and cares a lot about it. His enthusiasm kept me interested and I learned a lot in the class. You have to earn your grade, but the course is well worth it! I can't find anything negative to say, he's a great guy. I appreciate that I got to experience his class.
I liked him and his class
Awesome instructor. He is inspirational, and changed my view of the world.
He was kind of hard to understand in the the first few weeks due to his accent. Overall, the class is difficult but doable if you take notes and attend lectures. Several quizzes throughout the semester, all online though. Just take good notes and you'll be fine!
Great guy. Tests are tough, but all online. Go to class and take notes. All that stuff is in the test and quizzes
Gives a lot of extra credit for showing up to class. His tests are online, but they are difficult.
He's a great dude that keeps you entertained with stories. He makes a topic that seems extremely boring, fun and enjoyable. Loved this class.
He is pretty awesome. He has a bit of a accent but it is not that hard to understand him. His lectures consist of follow along notes so be ready to write and pay attention. Also his lectures are pretty funny. Overall he is a good professor for sociology. Oh, and another thing make sure you study even though his though his test are on blackboard
Dr. Oyinlade is always clear about his expectations. His tests can be a bit confusing because there are sometimes multiple correct answers, but other than that his class was a delight. His lectures had humor which made it much more engaging.
Dr. Oyinlade is VERY funny. His humor makes his lectures fun and interesting. He gives out plenty of extra credit (just for showing up to class) and the weekly discussions I'm pretty sure are just participation points, his tests are not easy though. You must know the material even though they are online. Overall, great professor
Dr. Oyinlade is a brilliant teacher, you can really tell that he cares about the subject and to be honest it makes the material more interesting. The tests can be pretty tough, even though they're online. By reading the textbook and showing up to class I was able to come out with an A+.
Loves teaching, super fun lectures.
He's Nigerian which makes for a cool accent. He's funny and makes things clear with good examples. The class is super interesting. But you don't get to see what you missed on the tests because they are online. Don't forget to do the discussion boards. Sometimes gives extra credit for participation.
Great guy, but boring class (though I hate business). I'm a sociology major and this is the first sociology class I don't like. Lectures are boring and long! Test questions are not straightforward, but more applied knowledge. Big group project plus papers that he gives confusing instructions for, weird formatting for papers.
Take sociology with this professor! He is so interesting to listen to, and just overall a nice guy. He genuinely cares about your opinion and your grade. This past lecture, he started singing "Lets Talk About Sex" in class. He is very funny. You will have to work for your grade, but if you pay attention and study, an A is achievable.
Great Professor! Recommended by a professor at Metro Comm College. If you love Kojo Allen, from Metro, you will love this professor. He is easy if you go to class. Little homework. Gives a lot of personal examples from his life.
He is easily my favorite professor so far! He is so funny and tells stories that make the topics easy to understand. Take good notes. Quizzes and exams are online on your own time, and are easy if you pay attention. He wants everyone to be successful in the class and loves class participation and debate. Highly recommend taking a class with him.
great guy, uses examples from personal life to relay his lecture. write notes down verbatim from his ppt slides and youll do fine, 4 quizzes and 3 exams make majority of grade, attendence is taken randomly as extra credit, but seriously take him, cool guy, might seem intimidating at first but hes chill, always lookn fresh with new suits, humorous
Showing up to his lectures is very important, and he is entertaining at times. He has very thorough knowledge of the subject. Rules are strict but they are easy to follow. He doesn't have much graded material, but he does give extra credit just for showing up. The course isn't hard, especially if you take notes and read the book. Would recommend.
Dr Oyinlade is a cool man. He is from Nigeria so his accent was more understandable and clear not only to me but to everyone.. He tells jokes and stories to explain his lecture. He reopens exams for students who misses it online. BUT avoid coming late to his class though you can leave early but watch out for the attendance extra credit point.
This class is an easy A. But the grades are only based on 4 quizzes, 2 tests and 1 final, that's 40% of your grade. He does take extra credit for showing up to class though (up to 20%). For this class you might end up okay not reading the book. Mr Oyinlade does give great and interesting lectures though
Dr. Oyinlade makes lectures very interesting with his sense of humor and personal stories. Attendance is not required, however he gives out several extra credit opportunities just for being in class. Your entire grade is based on 4 quizzes, 2 exams, and 1 final. Many things on the quizzes/exams came directly from the book, not the lecture or notes.
Loves sociology and interacting with his students. He isn't biased on any of the topics and he absolutely loves when students speak up in class. Feel free to share ideas and opinions . The most important part is to take notes on the slides because they aren't online and the tests and quiz answers can all be found in the slides
Professor Oyinlade is not a bad guy at all. But he is not a very good teacher either. He is very subjective in the way he assigns work and grades it. He will ask subjective questions, and then dock points if your OPINION is wrong. Even test questions are subjective with no clear answers given in the textbook he wrote. Given the option, stay away.
I took his online class and it wasn't as difficult. The only thing I didn't like was that when I had a death of a parent he was not as understanding as I thought he would be. I was literally doing my homework while at the funeral because he only extended my due date by two days. Wouldn't recommend. Honestly, there are better professors out there.
Shows passion in what he is teaching. Big class but encourages participation and gives good feedback to any questions. Class is pretty much an easy A if you take notes and dont skip.
I absolutely HATE his method of teaching. Everything is literally from his powerpoint and word of mouth and he never refers us to the textbook. His tests are hard because they are only an hour with 50 questions, there isn't time to do well. Several others feel the same and more time is necessary in the future.
I'm not going to lie at first I really thought I was going to hate his class, just by the way he approached things. I would take this class over again, he did so good with explaining things in his lectures (even though you can only get the notes in class). This class changed my life and I am so grateful to him. He is really funny and overall cool!!
This was an online class so we got a lot of emails. Within emails he would highlight, underline, bold, and use all caps on random bits. It was hard to read. He never actually helped when asked, he just told us to read the book and understand it better. He is a fan of having all answers correct but one slightly more correct in his tests.
He is very entertaining, and keeps the lectures informative but fun. Tests and quizzes are all online which is nice. It really isn't difficult as long as you take good notes, and a lot of the notes are the material on the tests.
This class is NOT how an Introduction to Sociology class should be. This class is more of a level five to sociology. It is hard, he does not give any homework just quizzes & tests. Your grades are based off of those. His test are hard they are multiple choice but he usually has more than one answer that could be right. Grading is heavy, can be rude
His class will stress you a lot. Even if you study enough and understand the material his tests are hard because more than one answer can be correct. He does not give homework at all, his class is only lectures. Do not take this class if u don't want to fail.
This professor basically sets you up to fail. I think he is just teaching because he needs a job not because he wants too. Tests are not clear and they are difficult no matter how much you study.
He makes his test and quizzes a lot harder than they need to be. Also we did not get to a lot of the content we need to during lectures. Overall a nice guy and very knowledgeable about what he teaches.
He has a lot of unrealistic expectations for undergrad work and these expectations were never clearly explained. Tests were essay style with vague instructions. Gave a group project and said its importance is akin to a dying relative. He is very enthusiastic about his work but doesn't explain it well. Prepare for a hard fought and stressful C
If you want be stressed out and study your butt off and still fail then take this class. He makes the class harder then it needs to be. His tests are so unclear. No matter how much you study you will fail. They are multiple choice and each question has more than one possible answer which makes the tests difficult. He is also rude. Beware.
In class students will answers his questions yet he will say they are wrong and wait at least 5 mins for more answers and act like we are stupid, yet when he says the answers, it was what we said just worded slightly different. Also only graded on tests and quizzes worded poorly and hard to understand since they dont directly relate to notes.
He is such a funny professor if you actually listen. His tests are quite hard but they are online, so you are able to use your notes. Offers a good amount of extra credit, but it won't save your grade. Don't take this class unless you are prepared to give 100%.
Took his class my freshman year. Hes very charismatic and easy to like. As long as you take notes during lecture, youll be fine since the tests are online. Also show up to class for the extra attendance points!
I spent hours on one chapter to thoroughly understand it and never scored higher than a 65% on an exam. This course heavily effected my GPA because of how difficult his exams are. There are multiple right answers to questions. He seems very genuine but needs to understand this is an introductory class and the expectations way are too extreme.
The class in itself is not hard but the fact that he is the only professor that doesnt post their quizzes and exams on canvas is annoying. If this was a physical class Id forsure ace it but probably should stick to the physical classes
Out of all of my classes I couldn't wait for his lecture. He was a pretty great professor that connected with his class even though it was online. He gives extra credit quizzes that help your grade and the exams are a bit difficult but overall I had a good experience. He's easy to get in contact with and he's very understanding.
Honestly, this class is not worth taking. I really wanted to get into sociology, but I don't feel that I actually got into it with this teacher. He grades super weird, which isn't clarified. The quizzes are bonus points so It says I have a 70 something, but I really have a 90. The quizzes are also impossible and worded weird and hard to understand.
Professor O is so hilarious I kept a list of ridiculous things he said in class. His teaching is so organized and well rounded I'm pretty upset his intro sociology class was my last elective before graduation. His expectations are very clear, and his grading is way generous (LOTS of bonus points - quizzes are required extra credit).
He's super funny, but the tests after the first one are super hard to understand. Lectures are super boring, but if you really care about the content you'll have a great time. Also his textbook is a pain, and it's so expensive.
He is very passionate about his lectures which makes his class amazing, and he makes sure to explain everything to a tea. He is really well at explaining when you don't understand and offers time in class to ask questions. Way easier to take him in person than online. Would prefer the textbook to be a physical copy than online.
Realistically I went to this class 2 times and got an A. If you just read the textbook you'll be fine, but he doesn't put the notes anywhere online so that's a little bit annoying. There are 3 tests total in this course and random opportunities for extra credit, but those are the only grades. Like I said, I only went twice. But professor was chill.
Most of the material comes from the textbook, so going to class was pretty much pointless. There are only 3 exams, but as long as you read the book and fill out the study guides, you'll be fine.
His class tends to run long. For the sake of your classmates, please do not ask any unnecessary questions because he gets off track easily. Overall, it's not a difficult class if you read the textbook. He has great fashion sense though. Seriously, he had incredible outfits every single class.
Great professor. Is willing to listen to students and gives accurate feedback on why they are right or wrong
Fairly easy class, he talks a lot no breaks, uses PowerPoint for all lectures, no homework just tests. You should pass as long as you pay attention during the lectures.
He's clearly very interesting in sociology and he's also very stylish. The classes are entirely a lecture but he's very receptive to questions and opinions regarding whatever he's talking about. The class is solely graded by the 3 tests and you have to read the book outside of class to fully understand what will be on the test.
He's super funny and considerate, but I really hated the way our grade relied on only 3 exams. Honestly you can pass this class by relying on the textbook alone, but just be aware that this class felt much more in depth than an introductory class. When you're studying for his exams, make use of the practice problems provided in his textbook.
