Greatest instructor ever. He is the epitome of wisdom and has a knack for explaining difficult material in a way that everyone can understand!
I am not sure about wisdom because wisdom is the knowledge of Christ but he was open minded to my ideas which is more than most people who claim to be open minded.
Excellent instructor! Changed my major to philosophy partially due to him.
Prof did not offer many points for the class so if you messed up at any point, you could not make it up and he was not willing to work with you;however, he was good to look at.

Quality class(knows philosophy:). But if you mess up or miss some points, your screwed-no extra credit or curve. He was helpful, (but not clear-cause had to have help!) in doing a small group study with a few other students before the quizzes(tests!)
I took Intro to Philosophy and Ethics from Omar Conrad. Excellent teacher, and very knowledegable.
Knows what hes talking about. Does explain things, but doesnt cover everything on the tests(not all study ?s are on test) tests were only worth 20 pts and the 2pg essay worth only 8. No chance to make up any pts. if you screw up on tests.
Conrad is a good professor. If you mess up on the 20 points test you are screwed. He goes over the test in his office the day before. That was very helpful, he goes over all of the questions on his test. He doesn't do that in the class. So take advantage of going in.
Omar is a really great teacher. He really helps with understanding the material you must read. His tests are tough but it is nice to be challenged.
He is my favorite teacher I have ever had. Not only is he clear about subject matters, he is a good storyteller and makes his class VERY interesting. I would tell anyone to take his class, he knows something about everything.
Omar Conrad rocks. He is highly intelligent and a great guy. I'm a habitual skipper, but I never missed his class.
Omar is a great Professor, I enjoyed his class. He is a very interesting professor.
Great teacher. He made ethics interesting when I thought it would be boring.
Gives examples and makes it interesting and down to earth.
I was concerned about ethics, as I had never taken such a course before! Fascinating material, engaging prof., and fair grading! There aren't always right answers, so it is important to choose a stance and then argue it well. I learn a lot in this class!
Great teacher! He really engages students in discussions and has a very open policy about talking between classes. He will explain everything in great detail and expects questions if students are lost/confused. Highly recommended for anyone taking intro to philosophy and ethics.
Awesome professor! I actually looked forward to going to his class. As long as you pay attention in class (which is easy b/c he makes it interesting) the papers are really easy to write! Too bad I don't have to take anymore philosophy classes b/c I really enjoyed Conrad's class.
He is one of the best teacher's I've had. He relates the material to everyday things and is very helpful if you're not understanding something. Highly Recommended!
Great teacher who keeps you involved. You can tell he really enjoys what he teaches and that rubs off onto you. Makes the class very fun and alive.
It is the best class I've ever taken and he is the best teacher I've ever had.
I wish every teacher was like Omar!!! I learned more than I ever expected. He taught me how to THINK. How does anyone teach that, I don't know, but he did. And he's great. And I wish he could teach me for the rest of my life.
One of the best teachers I've ever had. Nice friendly guy, but looks mean when he walks down the hallways. I think he is contemplating reality, mankind and humanity when he has that look on his face.
SUPER WONDERFUL TEACHER!!!! Truely motivates students to think about life. Best teacher I have at JCCC. Any philosophy class this man teaches I will be there.
Omar was probably one of the best teachers I have ever had. I would recommend him to every student.
Great teacher. He makes this subject so interesting. Yes he is a little hottie.
Omar is a cool guy. His class discussions are fun and involved and the reading material is great. He really likes to make people answer his questions, and he loves to talk about film about every 5 seconds. Great teacher.
Best class I've ever had.
I was not interested in Logic before I attended class, I was only trying to fulfill my elective credits. This guy is a KICK ASS prof. He really knows his stuff and is extremely laid back. He doesn't offer many points, but if you attend class and read the material you would have to be retarded to get anything lower than a B in his logic class.
this guy loves what he does and what he's teaching about. best teacher i've had so far. great notes, helpful, and easy to get a long with. overall i'd just say he's a bad*ss.
Omar is awesome! He knows his stuff, he makes you think, the class is hard, you definately have to attend in order to do well...but he's hysterical, very laid back, and a hottie!
Omar is the best teacher I have ever had. He made Logic a very fun and interesting class. I am taking more classes from him because he is just wonderful!!!!!!
omar was one of the best teachers' i've ever had.omar makes you think and wonder about all kind of things. he asks you a lot of questions about yourself and what you believe. this class was a lot of fun. the tests were somewhat hard, you have to study for them. plenty of opportunities to get extra credit if attend class. 3 papers are not very hard.
Great prof! Completely enjoyed the class. Got students to participate without pressure or judegement. Hot and interesting, completely lethal combo. Wish I could take all my classes with him.
absolutely awful
I find Omar to be an arrogant extremely hard teacher.DO not take him if you care about your gpa thats for sure.He will grades unfairly. Papers aren't as bad. Hes not clear except that he thinks hes all that and sorry Omar baby youre not!If you are non traditional good luck.He thinks he too cool and he needs to get over it and just teach. His tests
Excellent teacher, he makes ethics entertaining and understandable. His tests are all essay and all hard, make sure to study. Definately worth the effort to be in his class. Highly reccomend him!
He is hard to follow at times. But he is nice. He just likes to have private conversations with certain students in the middle of lecture. A bit uncomfortable, but I felt that the course wasn't completely horrendous. The tests were a bit harder than they should have been though.
If you excel in essay exams don't take him ,his grading is VERY harsh . He is very arrogant and jokes a lot with alot of cursing. Hes not fair and this matireal is really interesting. If you have learning difficulties he won't help thinks everyone should be like him a quick learner.
Best teacher I've had at JCCC. Made me change my major. Don't listen to the fools who judged him judged him poorly. The class is not easy, but neither is philosophy. You must work hard to attain a good grade. If your interest in Philosophy is pure, you will appreciate his classes.
Omar Conrad is one of the best teachers here or at any school. He really makes you understand the material. He's AMAZING and you won't regret taking this or any of his classes.
I have to agree with the students that graded him well. He is passionate about philosophy and what he is teaching. As long as you come to class and read the chapter you will do great!! I have already recommended him to my close friends.
My favorite teacher so far...Makes class very interesting, is a young fun teacher. Also, has a way of getting the information stuck in your head. If you show up and listen, it will be fun and you'll learn.
I do not agree that his tests were hard. He tells you exactly what questions will be on them and goes over each one prior to the exam. Has an open mind to questions on philosophy just like a philosophy teacher should have!
good but I am tired of fair enough...ahhh
whoa... I am messed up in the head now... this class made me look at everything in a new way and made me question EVERYTHING in existence. Take the class with caution because it will have you trippin
Omar is a great teacher! It is so rare that a teacher is excited about his subject and is so concise and crystal clear in his lecture as Omar is. He goes over everything in class in such an interesting way that it is almost impossible to forget the material. He prepares his students well for the tests... no surprises.
I have taken Omar for Logic and Critical Thinking and Ethics. I have read some comments that say he is too hard, which I find ridiculous. He begins each class with a review of the last class and then goes on to the new material. Anyone who can't follow that or say he is too hard probably didn't put in enough effort.
Omar is a great teacher. He really has a passion for his work and it shows. He's very good at explaining things using real world examples that are easy to relate to. Makes the lectures fun and interesting. Very easy going, easy to get along with. Pretty nice to look at too!
I'm not going to lie, I got a C in his class but it was so much fun being there! He's VERY hyper and is a huge geek like I am (Mention Star Wars to him one day), but also loves philosophy. He uses examples from real life to help students understand the material. I'd take another course from him if I was staying at JCCC.
I was more interested in his lectures/discussions than in any other class I have ever taken. He kept me sitting in the front row for the whole semester and if I could take another class from him, I would. Not a single negative about him...other than he said he likes Phish.
I was told to take Omar bc he was such a great teacher! Not!He himself was pretty interesting, but his tests are RIDICUlously hard. I am an A and B student and I put a lot of effort into his Logic class and I earned a C. I feel like I had to put a lot of effort in and didn't really take anything out. This class doesn't even matter in the real world
I have taken Omar for multiple classes and would take more if I could. I completely disagree with all the negative comments. If you go to class and listen to him, you will do fine in any class. He pretty much tells every question on his tests and gives u the answer in class. He is a great teacher! He is very interesting and u can tell he loves phil
Great Prof, lets the class be exactly what it should be. Encourages your own thoughts, not simply memorizing different philosophers views. Also doesn't force his own views on you, lets you decide what is correct. You should get an A, tells you exactly what will be on the test. Need to go if you want to do well, but most days I wanted to go.
I returned for summer classes first got rates from counselors, but since the beginning I attended 100% of the time, read the textbook, nothing made since to me, I kept not doing well on exams I turned in papers on time went to him for extra credit but he didn't offer extra credit. I ended up failing and the teacher failed me.
Conrad was a great teacher. He knows the material and is very interesting to listen to. His class isn't difficult so long as you attend class and actually listen to the lecture. And if he acts like he wants you to finish a sentence, he probably doesn't. Just wait it out, and he'll finish it himself.
Anyone who commented previously must be mildy retarded. Excellent teacher, easy to listen to, and very helpful. I wasn't particularly interested in Phil. or Logic before taking 2 of his classes. The material isn't an easy A, but it's worth hearing his opinions and learning new things. Very applicable to life--def. classes worth your time.
this class was okay. conrad was helpful if you came to him outside of class. class was kinda boring he talked ALOT. no one else could get a word in. the tests were hard but the study guide is basically the test..overall he is an okay teacher.
Very helpful lectures. Don't miss his class though, or you will be really lost. Found the class difficult, but fun. Gives a lot of modern day application. Logic and Critical Thinking was great with Omar.
Omar is such a nice guy and is very knowledgable in his field. Go to every class and copy down the answers to the study guide as he lectures. Sometimes he talks too fast or gets way off topic, but he's sarcastic/interesting. The tests are over the study guide=20 t/f and 4 long essays. Also two short, easy papers. Good class, highly recommended!
Omar is a great guy - and an impassioned teacher who is gifted at explaining (in more understandable terms) the esoteric concepts of the philosophers presented in the text. Because some of these philosophies can be difficult to grasp from the text alone, I would highly recommend attending all the classes and taking excellent notes.
Omar is a nice guy...but he is really hard to follow. He expects alot... his study guides are long and his answers are REAL LONG. Most of the class was lost and alot of people were making F's on thier test.
Amazing teacher!!! Go to class and take good notes and you'll do fine. His class is the kind of class that you look forward to!
Be careful. It depends who you are. Intelligent but Very fast when teaching,You must keep up with his speed otherwise you are done. Jokes alot which might hurt some. Did not like his class at all
So funny and nerdy! he takes a confusing topic and makes it very interesting and relates it to the world! Great Prof!
Had only taken a high school philosophy class, decided to take Logic as it would replace Math for my degree choice at the time. Lots of reading, and excellent note taking/listening required - but he provides amazing insights and lessons that are hard to find. Wish I had more classes to take in his field, I would get him in a heartbeat.
Man is he hard. He talks to much about useless crap. He seriously goes way off topic about nerdy stuff. And just overall is a bad teacher. Grading is harsh
The man doesn't talk in complete sentences. I have never had a problem with note taking, he is every where. I think he has ADHD, dont take him, unless this is all you want to study. His study guides are 14 pages long.Fill in the blank. long essay questions.
i loved his ethics class & he's one of my favorite professors at jccc. he's funny, nerdy(in a good way), & makes the material interesting and fun. tests come straight from the review questions- which he goes over in class. class isn't mandatory, but you'll find yourself wanting to go every day. i would definitely recommend this teacher!!
Not hard, good teacher. Funny, relates class to the real world which makes it easier to understand. Do the reading and go to class and you'll be fine.
Omar is interesting, diverse, intelligent, and reasonable. Tests dont have enough points to change a grade in the "final hour". So, whatever you have as a grade going into the final test, that is most likely going to be your grade regardless of final performance. Frustrating. Omar makes it clear what is covered on the test. Come to class, do work-A
One of my favorite teachers at JCCC so far. I actually don't like to miss his class, and since it's early in the morning, that's saying something. Unless you're suffering from some severe degree of mental incapacitation, it's not that hard. Do the study questions and you'll be fine. Oh yeah - and he REALLY likes movies. A lot.
VERY HARD class! He counts off on the tests if you don't word something EXACTLY like he wants it to be worded. Just be prepared to study and read A LOT!
I really enjoyed his class. Omar tells you on the first day how to succeed in his class. He gives out study guides with the syllabus. Take notes while doing the assigned reading, answering the study guide questions. Leave room for additional notes during the lecture. Short T/F quizzes once a week or so, 2 short papers, no final.
O. Conrad - great teacher, wants his students to understand what he teaches, can be a little fast when going through material. I enjoyed his class and learned a lot ... I would definitely recommend being in class, and taking ALL the notes, working hard to prepare for the tests and you should do fine. He's really a great teacher overall.
Omar was an awesome teacher. He's passionate about what he's teaching and if you try hard enough, it's an easy pass. You just HAVE to study and ask for help. Highly recommend his class.
I really enjoyed this super interesting class. Conrad is organized & personable. Doesn't shy away from the hard questions, a good quality for a philosophy professor. If you do the reading & textbook exercises, the tests will be very easy.
Do the work read the text and you will do fine.
Omar was an awesome teacher. He was able to make even the most difficult reading understandable. If you take the notes during lecture and study them you'll do great!
GREAT Philosophy-ethics teacher. Hilarious and understanding. He is obsessed with films, and refers to them a lot in class, but in a good way. He reviews a lot of the previous assignment's readings every class period but you should STILL read the material. Take notes of EVERYTHING to understand all the different things discussed. Overall good one.
I first took Logic and Critical Thinking from Omar, got an A and liked him so much I decided to take Ethics as well. He loves movies, is very easy to talk with and answer questions in class, makes difficult material easier, but challenges you enough with his tests. Easily my favorite teacher. Ever.
Highly recommend taking anything he teaches whether you need the credits or not. You will be smarter for it. You can get an A in his class (unlike other profs.), but it does take work. Study hard - it's worth it.
he is very helpful! if you like to think and be challenged thenthis is the class for you. he is not bias or trys to enforce his opinoins. he is very open minded and you should be too. a lil weird and hyper but he is the best heacher i have ever had!
Best teacher I've had so far. Makes you think. You will find yourself wanting to come to class just to hear him talk. Take a class from Omar if you can.
I liked Omar's class so much, that I decided to take every class that he teaches. I highly recomend that everyone take atleast one class with Omar. He's a great, personable, energetic, and somewhat funny professor. And he makes you think. Rock and Roll.
The only reason you wouldn't like Omar is if you want an easy, blow off class. He makes you know the material, but teaches it in a way that makes it easy. He makes you think! He's a little bit quirky, but in an endearing sort of way. I would highly recommend him!
Conrad is my favorite teacher at JCCC. I highly recommend taking anything from him. His courses can be challenging, but he provides everything you need to succeed in the class.
He's a good teacher. He's organized but his lectures get off on tangents frequently, mostly about movies. He's a big movie buff. That's a little irritating at times, if you're not into that and don't get the references. He keeps things light and it's a very interesting class.
very smart and knows what he is talking about. his sense of humor is kind of weird sometimes. makes you know material but isn't to hard if pay attention in class. will give you every answer to questions over test if go everyday
Interesting guy. He always looks pissed off, but he isnt. He's very entertaining and funny. Conrad is very casual and makes the classles virtually stress free. I had no previous interest in the class prior to taking it but iquickly began to enjoy it. He is very knowledgeable. He's always in his office and ready tooffer his help. Take logic from him
Absolute best professor I've had at JCCC. Explained all the concepts well, graded fairly, nothing unexpected on the tests. Goes over the study guide in class, questions from which are pretty much directly transferred to the test. Always willing to talk more about topics discussed in class and more (like his favorite movies!) DEFINITELY worthwhile.
Makes class boring. Just reading and answering questions about readings. This is a reading comprehension class and nothing more. Easy tests and easy papers occasionally but if you try you can get good grade.
The best professor at JCCC. I did not have much knowlege about the class and was not too interested until i attended his first day! He is very a passioinate about philosophy. Very helpful, straight foward. But if you need help he has office hrs that really helped me. Even if you dont need it, take at least one of his classes!
One of my favorite teachers at JCCC and one of the most interesting people you will meet. I wish there were more classes to take from him. Makes things very clear by using everyday examples (including lots of movies) and prepares you well for tests. Go to class and study and you'll do just fine. Plus he's hot.
I took his philosophy class in the summer and I am an As and Bs student. He is indeed very passionate about the subject which I liked a lot, and he's funny too. Mr. Conrad is a very smart man, he backs up his arguments with the right material. The only thing I didn't like was how he goes on and on explaining an answer until you miss it.
A great professor for an intro course. He consistently gives relatable examples to help explain philosophically complex ideas, and if you follow his format and read the material, you should do well on the tests. Very helpful and sympathetic with student questions. I went out of my way to take his Ethics class next semester.
Amazing teacher. Philosophy has definately not been my strong point and I was lost through most of the readings BUT he explains every Philosopher's point of view very well. If it wasn't for him being such an amazing prof I would have struggled really hard in this class. He's passionate about what he teaches and it shows, just Show up for class!
For his Ethics class, he doesn't teach what the other Ethics classes are being taught, but make it more of a reading comprehension class. Not that I have a problem with reading comprehension. And one of the only things I learned from the class is Raging Bull is a great movie, that's his ONLY example when trying to tie things to the subject at hand.
A lot of reading involved, but he explains even the hardest philosopher perfectly! He is very energetic around the classroom, too. He gets carried away with examples sometimes and does not cover all the assigned readings, but he's good at seeing where he made things too difficult and curbing things.
even if you do not care about this subject his passion for it compensates and I wish I had a reason to take more of his classes!
Didn't know philosophy very well and didn't know what to expect but I really enjoyed learning about it. Omars one of the best teachers I've had.
Omar is a very intellectual and humorous man! I loved that he made references to shows like Star Trek and Mad Men. He has a great love for film. Omar does ask that you participate in class discussions. The course material was difficult but he made it exciting to learn with his humor and enthusiasm. Oh and he's not too bad on the eyes. ;]
Hard grader, Runs off on movie tangents during every lecture. His quizzes are confusing, more than one answer on a question could be correct. Using a totally different textbook than other Professors. Doesn't answer questions, instead he beats around the bush with his answers. I do NOT recommend him!!
This class is less about symbolic logic and more about getting into the mindset of western analytical philosophy. It was this class that inspired me to aspire to dual majoring in philosophy as well as computer science when I move on to a four-year institution.
Very similar to his Logic and Critical Thinking course, you will have weekly quizzes which can count for up to 50 points of your total grade. Tests are worth 50 points as well, and there tend to be four. Read the material, show up to class, raise questions. If you show him you care, he will do nearly anything he can to help.
Puts things in very intellectual terms to the point that it becomes very confusing. Put simply: He overcomplicates the material! I thought I was going to take an Ethics class but ended up taking a Philosophy class... we barely went over anything "ethically based" and when we did it didn't even pertain to material on the tests. No discussions either
Omar is very dedicated and passionate about what he teaches. Quirky and humorous, it's pretty difficult to fall asleep with his energy! Although difficult, Omar is very helpful, and if all else fails, all of the reading is on Sparknotes. 2 written papers, 5 exams, and a quiz almost every class. Omar is one of my top professors! Highly recommended.
Omar Conrad is an A+ educator who is well versed in the subjects he teaches and able to lead his classes through to the light. Highest recommendations.
Incredibly difficult. Never again.
Conrad is a great teacher!! He kept me interested the whole class period when sometimes that was hard to do after working all night. The few times I went to him he was very helpful in explaining what I was not understanding. I'd recommend him to anyone who thinks they might have trouble in a philosophy class.
He is amazing! But you HAVE to speak up and ask for help when you don't understand in class, and if he doesn't have time he will ask you to stay after class. Lots of office hours, LOTS of people go see him. LOTS OF READING, and you need to read because it helps immensely on the tests. I loved the subject and Omar, I would recommend this class!
He was a fun professor and really enjoys teaching Philosophy. He tests directly from the study questions so it is helpful to go to class and get HIS answers to the study questions because that is what is on the test. He loves to go off on rabbit trails about movies but is fun to listen to during lecture. This was my 1st Phil class-good time!
He's a great teacher! He teaches with passion and makes the subject really interesting. A lot of times he uses examples from movies because he's a movie buff.
Omar is the best teacher I have ever had. He is very passionate about his work and that makes me want to learn. He truly cares and wants to make it easy for you and he will constantly check in with the class to make sure they get it. PS. HE LOVES COMIC BOOKS! AND QUENTIN TARENTINO!
Great teacher. Omar is entertaining and makes ethics easier to understand. Lots of energy, and enthusiasm. READ THE MATERIAL and know his study questions! Loves Tarentino! Haha
There is a ton of reading in this class, don't let Conrad's easy going nature let you think you won't have to work hard. The good side is he goes over every reading and if you take notes and fill out the reading guide, you'll do great on the tests. He is really funny and makes the subject way more interesting then I thought it would be.
Loved taking Ethics with this Professor! Passionate and involved in his subject, reading assignments are easy, and he even makes a study guide that makes each of his 4 tests cake! Gives maybe one short quiz every week and there's one 4-6 pg paper due. Covered so many topics and having Omar to guide you through it is a trip worth taking. Take him!:)
Took his ethics class this summer. He moves quickly, but is very passionate and entertaining- way better than the ethics class at KU. Quizzes are difficult if you do not understand the readings (he doesn't explain until after). Tests aren't too bad. know EVERYTHING on the study guide & memorize specific phrases to get full points on short answer ?s
Omar is awesome! He is very interested in the subjects he teaches. It is also clear that he is very knowledgable and well read. He is a funny teacher that will take the time to make sure everyone understands. The first thing I noticed on day one of his class was that he knew a lot of students by first name and they seemed eager to be there.
Absolutely loved his class! I learned so much. You definitely have to work for your grade. If you are ever having any difficulty, I highly recommend talking to him during his office hours-he's very personable and is willing to help you.
I took Omar for Logic & Critical Thinking. BEST class I have ever taken in my life! He funny, interesting, and makes Logic class a blast. He grades fairly and tells you what will be on tests. I can't say enough about how awesome this guy is! Just do yourself a favor and take the class. This was the most fun and interesting class I have ever taken.
This professor is perfect to explain complex a subject such a philosophy. He took hella calculus, which issac Newton, a philosopher, created just so other people could understand his theories of natural philosophy. This helps him, along with his logical streams of helpful notes written unite sloppily on the board. But If u slack off you're toast!
I gave up reading the book, because he goes over the assigned chapters anyways that when class is over I feel like I pratically read the section. Show up to class to fully understand but skipping is easy since just ask a clasmate for there notes. The tests come straight off the classnotes. Quizzes are very easy.
EXCELLENT professor and course. I spent a good deal of time thinking about the topics we discussed in class with friends and family. A thought-provoking class taught by a an instructor that never tries to tell you what to think but instead shows you numerous sides of any topic. Tests can be a bit tough, but notes and studying make them much easier.
Mr. Conrad is a nice enough guy, but his mannerisms are quite distracting, in my opinion. He also gets off topic sometimes, which makes it tougher to concentrate on the lesson. I am glad that he explains the readings of the philosophers' views in class. He does have a good way of translating what they mean. Not my favorite class, but not horrible.
there is no discussion on common day stuff as one would think. it's all about ancient and early 20th century. very hard to track the material with his descriptions of what is being said. VERY IMPORTANT do well on quizzes and midterm paper. you can passwith c or greater
Omar Conrad is clear and concise about what needs to be learned. I've taken two classes with him, and in both classes it was essential to take advantage of the provided study guide and attend class. The subject is difficult for some. To compensate, Omar seems to be happy to meet during office hours to go over the subject matter. Amazing teacher.
I got to say that Professor Omar is hands down the best professor at JCCC. He is very passionate about philosophy as well as many other subjects in academics. A very intellectual man. The class can be tough if your a closed minded individual, here's how to an A, Do the readings before class, show up to class, take notes, and open your mind.
This class was super hard for me. There was just too much outside of class reading. Conrad also isn't very good at explaining or helping with things that are going to be on the exam. His exams were rough and half of it was short answer. He was really passionate about the subject though and he's funny. Wouldn't take him again.
For being a subject I dislike, and having been in a couple other philosophy classes with different teachers, I found Omar refreshing and much easier. He provides study guides and tests us off those study guide questions. He is really good at providing us with the tools to get a passing grade. He does talk fast so bring a laptop for notes. TAKE HIM
I took Omar's ethics class. I really like him as a person. In class, he is very passionate and is more than willing to help you out outside of class if needed. He provides study guides and goes over each question in class. He does go over them very quickly and they can be hard to understand if you don't pick up on philosophy easily.
Read the book & he'll explain it in class. His tests are in 2 parts. First is multiple choice from all the readings, second is short answer. He gives you all the questions & answers and tells you which ones are going to be on it. All you have to do is memorize for the second half. Really helpful teacher, funny and passionate about ethics!
If you skip his class you will not pass, the readings are hard to understand and his multiple choice questions are harder than they should be for an intro to ethics class. The tests get a little easier but they are still difficult. His lectures can get long and he will get off subject and talk about movies ALOT. But he will help you in any way poss
Mr. Conrad is an extremely good teacher, and an extremely honorable man. He is not only very smart and interesting-he is a very good person, and it is evident with his personality and concern for his students.
By far one of the best teachers I've had at Jccc. Also one of the most challenging classes, but he uses multiple examples for everything to get his point across. Very engaging. Participation is not required, but you will get more out of the class the more you participate. Truly wants to see his students succeed. Overall great guy.
He is knowledgable about the topics that he lectures on and makes a seemingly boring topic very interesting and fun. You will absolutely need the book and a discipline to read the necessary material, but if you are confused about anything, his door is always open.
Made me love ethics. I comprehended the material on a level I doubt I would have with any other professor.
Tests will usually be on a Friday & any pop quizzes will be on a Wednesday. Tests are tough if you don't study. Pop quizzes will be open book/note with a partner. Always take notes on paper (he will not allow you to use a laptop during a pop quiz.) Can get himself off topic easily. If you need help just ask he will try to explain as best he can.
Philosophy is a hard subject to listen to for long periods of time but Conrad does a great job at keeping your attention and explaining what the philosophers are trying to say. The tests are taken directly from the notes during class and as long as you take notes you'll be fine. There's one essay paper during the class but it's not hard.
Great professor! He keeps lectures fun and interesting. If you pay attention in class/show up every day and take notes you shouldn't have a problem. Quizzes are open note with a parter, and exam questions come straight from your notes.
Omar's class was the one I looked forward to, even though it was my last class of the day and I was tired. He is a cool guy and the class is interesting. Not a challenging course, but an informative one (Ethics 143). If you have to take Ethics for a credit, sign up for Omar's class.
Omar makes philosophy easier to understand because the assigned readings from the book can be a bit heavy and difficult to understand. But he takes real life situations/examples so everyone understands. You can tell he REALLY loves teaching this class, and is very enthusiastic. The quizzes are partner and open book and there are 4 exams.
One of the most passionate teachers I've ever had. You can tell Dr. Conrad really loves his classes. Very good at using analogies and examples to make sense of tough concepts. Fair grader; if you take plenty of notes, you'll do fine. His energy kind of reminds me of Robin Williams.
Omar Conrad is an excellent professor. I have taken two classes from him now, and as long as you study the packets you are given you will do fine. He gives good examples in class so I would recommend going although attendance isn't taken as a grade. You are only graded on 5 exams and 5 quizzes. Quizzes are open book & open note with a partner.
Every class is entirely lecture based but he is great at keeping the attention of students the entire time. Speaks very passionately and inspirationally about material and wants to see students succeed. Also incredibly good at explaining potentially difficult concepts. Jist make sure to take notes! All around really great human being. 10/10
Going into this class many people warned me of how difficult it will be. from day 1 i was blown away. Omar Conrad is a great professor, its obvious he loves what he does, he speaks with passion and is able to keep the entire class engaged, and respects his students. you will be excited for every class you go into. JCCC is so lucky to have Omar.
he is amazing. don't spend time reading all these reviews. Do yourself a favor and take a class with Omar Conrad. LOVE HIM
I didn't need to read the book at all because he lectures the whole class. Very helpful because he only talks about specific questions that will be on test. I took my own notes but he also handed out notes for every question that could possibly be on each test which was AMAZING for studying. Not sure if he always does that or for every class.
Conrad is very passionate about philosophy. His lecturing style is lucid and dynamic. He gives a lot of examples to clarify the concept. If you study the package, you should do well in the test. He answers questions thoroughly, and has a pleasant manner. He inspires me to do the best I can in class, and arouses my curiosity in other subjects.
One of my favorite teachers I've had. He really knows what he's talking about and his lectures are easy to follow. I took Logic and Critical Thinking with him because I liked his ethics class so much. Not to tough of a class, as long as you pay attention or do the readings you'll be fine. He had a helpful study guide for the whole semester.
Omar is passionate, and he really knows what he's talking about. He was always willing to discuss more with me after class, and he truly wants to see his students succeed and learn the material. Make sure you attend class. He doesn't take attendance for points, but all the material you need to pass the class will be found in his lectures.
No powerpoint, doesn't write on the board, straight lecture. No homework other than your closed book exams . No extra credit opportunities. If you have difficulties in your life he is not willing to work with you. You show up you listen carefully or you get an f.
Very hard class. Lecture only . Re talks a lot, he rambles, hard to pay attention. Exams are hard. Lots of reading outside of class.
Lecture heavy, monotone, nothing, hard to pay attention. One of those professors who purposely makes his class hard because he thinks it makes him a better professor. Ineffective teaching strategy
He is really sweet but if he doesn't like you, you will not pass. He has a poor teaching strategy, he will not work with you.
He turned a simple elective into a class that I looked forward to every other day. You don't want philosophy to ever bore you, and Conrad never lets that happen as long as you give him your attention.
I would never take his class again. If he has a personal issue with you you won't pass.
Paying attention to the syllabus and paying attention to lectures will get you far, but you will lose points on exams if you write more than two sentences or if he doesn't like how you phrased it. Take only if everyone else is worse. DON'T BUY THE BOOK! All texts are listed and are open source!!
This class is already really interesting, but Mr. Conrad makes it so much more interesting. He clearly loves what he does, and it so passionate about teaching ethics. Be ready to take a LOT of notes. He answers the study guide questions in his lectures, but goes pretty fast. Quizzes are partner quizzes, so they're easy, but the tests are tricky.
He used examples to clarify the philosophers' ideas. He made the class easier by giving students handouts which answered the questions in the syllabus. In his test, he wanted the students to know what the philosophers' ideas is, not the students' own opinion.
Omar is the best professor that I have ever had!! He is passionate about philosophy and it made me just as excited, as well! It was also the easiest class I have ever taken! The exam questions are literally the study guide questions that he goes over in class! His class is an easy A, but it also engages your mind! Favorite class of all-time.
Omar is the best teacher I have had at JCCC. Each morning of class, I knew I would start my day off thinking about life and it was awesome! I never understood the kids who were scared of failing because he makes it almost impossible to. He goes over every question that's going to be on the test and will answer any questions you missed after class.
The best professor for the best class I have ever taken. He is incredibly fair in grading, assignments, and exams. His lectures are enthusiastic and he explains things very clearly. He is always willing to work with his students and help in any way that he can.
I literally had a family member die and he wouldn't work with me to make up points for the missed class.
No matter what philosophy class just take this professor! He cares about his students and about every single class he teaches. Great at answering questions in or out of class and emails too. Does a great job of exploring many different topics without coloring it with a personal bias.
One of my favorite professors on campus! Is lecture heavy & kind of goes at a fast pace but is super enthusiastic about what he does. You can tell he really loves his job. If you pay attention/show up, you should get an A. STUDYING IS A MUST. Missed majority of last unit and 6 points turned an A to a B (doesnt offer a lot of points though).
Extremely enthusiastic and engaging professor. His passion for Philosophy and teaching makes this class worthwhile. Take good notes during class and go over the study guides and the Exams will be a breeze. Quizzes are open book/open note and done with a partner.
Omar Conrad is my favorite professor. He loves to teach and loves what he teaches. He tries to make philosophic texts understandable by using examples. Conrad portrays different philosophies with an unbiased approach and is respectful of different views. He genuinely wants his students to learn and appreciate philosophy.
Omar is a fantastic professor who is extremely intelligent and engaging. Makes the complicated things seem clear as day. Very funny, genuinely nice person. I would highly recommend him.
The class only has 8 grades for the entire semester. 4 quizzes and 4 test. No extra credit, no participation or homework grades which for me is bad because these grades help boost your grade. If you want an easy A this is not it.
Incredible lecturer, extremely passionate about the material he lectures over and philosophy in general. his tests are however very difficult, you will be given the exact things to study but be sure to study like you have never before memorizing who said what and who didn't. overall a great class and a great teacher.
If you need to take Ethics for credit, please take Omar. He was amazing and I am so glad that I took him. The first class he came in and was already jazzed to give his lecture. Man, does he get into it. I recommend reading the passage before the lecture that way you can just sit back and enjoy the show.
I really really love this man. He has a fantastic personality; funny, quirky, interesting, approachable, genuine, thoughtful, and kind. Its clear that he very much enjoys teaching his classes and values the things he teaches. Very objective in his lessons. Will convince you of one philosopher's argument for one thing & then the other the next day.
Not knowing what to expect from the class, this became one of my favorite classes I've ever taken! Your exams come straight from the study guide which you go over in class. If you're a movie buff, you'll appreciate a lot of Omar's references as well. Class is graded on exams and quizzes and the dates are consistent. (Taken in summer)
He gives me anxiety. His yelling scares me he gets to passionate.
One of the best teachers Ive had. He is very passionate about philosophy which makes the lectures really good. The lectures follow a study guide for the test and all the questions on the test come from the study guide or lecture. Tests arent long and are easy, gives chance to earn back points. Quizzes are take home.
His tests come directly from his questions packet, I recommend having the questions out while taking your notes so that you can keep track of the answers he gives during lecture. This makes it 100x easier on yourself when you have to go back and reference your notes while studying. 4 Exams and 4 Quizzes(he lets you work in groups/take home quizzes)
Professor Conrad is a very passionate professor that enjoys teaching. He has 4 tests and 4 quizzes. The quizzes are simple and you can work with a partner and sometimes are take home. The test questions come right from the syllabus so as long as you study the answers to all the questions you'll be fine. I recommend rewriting your notes for the test
While I didn't do so well in the class I really enjoyed the lectures and Omar is a really good professor. He makes the material easy to understand and relates examples to the modern world.
I wasnt sure what to expect with ITP, but I got lucky with Omar. He is slightly erractic, but relatable or if not relatable he is easy enough to understand. This class requires you to pay attention to his lectures. The matieral can become confusing when you miss a class or neglect taking good notes Overall not difficult just put a bit of effort in
Conrad goes over things a little quick during lecture so you have to always pay attention. He is so passionate about what he does and makes sure you grasp the concept. He's sporadic, funny, but most importantly cares about his students and is willing to help you no matter what. He's amazing!!!!
Omar makes his lectures super relatable to real life. If he thinks the class still doesn't understand the topic he will keep explaining till you are comfortable. His syllabus is EXACTLY what the class will be studying. There is no guessing games for homework, quizzes or tests. Everything you are graded on he goes over in class.
The class is graded by four unit quizzes and exams; all questions and concepts are lifted straight from the textbook. While his lectures are driven by study guide questions (very easy to follow along and take notes), Omar is amazingly engaging and charismatic. Attendance isn't required but you won't want to miss his insightful lectures.
Omar is pretty erratic in his movements and words. The class is 100% lectures so it can be hard if you aren't good at focusing. You're supposed to read the book, but I never did! He has perfectly laid out take home quizzes and tests are questions straight from the study guide. It's purely memorization! Would recommend for philosophy!
Take Professor Conrad. He is so into what he teaches that its hard to not get absorbed in it as well. He cares about his students, both that they are able to understand the material and also in their personal lives. Its easy to follow his lectures. Just take and memorize your notes, and it wont be too hard. Most entertaining professor I've had.
Very good teacher, would defiantly take him again. His tests are the study guide word for word. The study guides you go over in class and the quizzes are either take home quizzes or you can do them with a partner. Easiest A ever.
This class never ceased to bore me, mainly because the teacher always had so much energy and you can tell he loves what he does. The tests are exactly like the study guide you fill out for the test. If you don't study all of the questions you will not get a good grade in this class. The class is not hard, but it does require a lot of memorization.
Tests are exactly like the study guide. The tests are in two parts, multiple-choice and short answer. If you do not know everything that was on the study guide, you will bomb the test. The short answer questions are the hardest part of the tests. The quizzes are take home and easy points.
Best professor ever. Very lecture heavy, but these lectures are so entertaining and thought provoking that you will want to pay attention. He encourages his students to come by his office at any time to ask questions. Such a caring man who is a role model for how everybody ought to live.
Omar is an incredible professor and obviously adores what he does. Youre only graded on tests and quizzes. Quizzes are take home and answers come from the study guide which is gone over in class. I only got the grade I got because the topic just wasn't for me. He understood that too when I'd talk to him. If Philosophy is your thing, take him!
Omar is an outstanding teacher, his classes are mostly just lectures and tests, and he does a great job of conveying the information and making it interesting. It is important to attend class as he focuses on certain parts of the material and the rest doesn't usually make it onto the test. Show up to class and and it isn't that hard.
Omar Conrad is amazing to say the least. You will have no problem in his class if you show up, sit there, listen and comprehend. Gives packets to study and prepare for tests. If you follow along with him, tests are an easy A! I would take his class again any day.
This professor was amazing. He is super loud when he gives his lectures but they're so interesting. We had a few quizzes and we had four exams. He was good at connecting these abstract ideas to concrete and relatable things. When we switched to online midway through our semester, due to COVID-19, it was still great and it was easier than in class.
He really loves his subject which makes him easy to listen to. He makes a study packet for each of the 4 tests which was incredibly helpful and his tests are just like his packet and lectures. He is a loud person but he explains his topics well. I do take notes but I didn't really need the book. He was my favorite professor of the year!
I would not recommend him if this is your first time Philsosphy. The absolute work experience I've every had. I can not believe he has the good rating that he does. Lecture are long and drawn out. Test are long and not enough time to complete. He wants you to EXPAND on every answer. Worst class I've ever taken.
Omar is an amazing professor and a genuinely great guy. His online course has 4 unit exams and 8 quizzes. He provides a study guide with each unit which will set you up for success. Make sure you understand what is on the study guide and you will do well on the exams. His lectures were always so interesting and I really learned a lot from them.
I took Intro to Philosophy online with Omar Conrad. He gives good pace recommendations and gives consistent reminders on when things are due. I found listening to his lectures both helpful and enjoyable. You have to take notes and listen or you won't do will in his class. Omar is passionate about philosophy. I would recommend taking this course!!!
There's 8 quizzes and 4 exams. They are evenly spaced out over the course. Listen to the lectures (avg. 30-35 min)and take notes. I liked being able to go back and listen to lectures to take better notes. He gives you all the possible questions on the exams, answer all and you're ready. No papers, no group projects, no homework, no extra credit.
Prof. Conrad did a fantastic job at relaying information about the unbelievably confusing topic of philosophy. There were only 8 quizzes and 4 tests in my class so make sure you are prepared for them as best as possible.
This class was great. There is work to do if you want to pass. In all of his lectures he gives the answers to all of the tests and quizzes. The lectures can be lengthy but theyre worth the listen. I definitely recommend taking him for this class!
His lectures were all audio lectures with no visuals. The required reading was an expensive collection of public readings that he profited from. His grading criteria were unclear and he failed to provide useful feedback to wrong short answer questions.
This is my favorite professor! It is a difficult class especially if you are not naturally great at philosophy. However, Omar makes it super easy to understand as long as you show up to class. His lectures are engaging and super interesting. He explains each philosopher well and gives examples that make the very complicated material seem easy.
Omar is great! Show up for class and study the packets given to you and you're good to go. It is an incredibly interesting class and Omar will make it very easy to understand. It is lecture heavy so make sure you are going to class or listening to the lectures posted if it's online, there are a few tests but no homework. I highly recommend Omar!
This was the worst class I've ever taken. The lectures were long and boring. There were only about 11 assignments and they were exams or quizzes. He is a very hard grader and doesn't give extra credit. DO NOT take this class!!!!!!!!!
Omar knows his philosophy. It is reading heavy because of the topics. Some of the readings were 5 pages. I think the most was 15. All exams and quizzes have a study guide you can fill out and use for each test. There is a lecture to every reading. There was about 4-5 reading/lecture in each section. After each section you take a short quiz.
Philosophy was a challenge to me. Professor Conrad's lectures were amazing. I almost felt like I was in class. He will not offer extra credit and if you fail one quiz/exam, you will probably have a hard time making up your grade because there are only 4 exams (4 questions each) and 8 quizzes (12 questions each). All the tests are timed.
Audio lectures. get a transcribe app so I could look at the text and not spend an hour trying to get the right wording for my notes. if you have auditory problems ask if he can provide a transcript for you. TAKE NOTES. his study guide questions are exact on the exam and the lectures have all of the answers. book does not have all quotes in lecture.
Professor Conrad is not a bad professor, but I would be ready to listen to lectures and read tons. I might mention his lectures are audio-only and he will not give out transcripts for them, so be aware you have to be a good listener. The course layout he gave for 121 was 8 quizzes, 4 tests and that's it, no extra credit. Good luck:)
The lectures are boring at times due to the way he talks but the information is interesting. All of the study guide questions are answered in his lectures and rom there you can copy and paste your answers to the exam. This class was interesting, do not put off listening and fill out the study guide and you will get an A.
He was great at explaining complicated subjects in a very simple way. He does a good job going through each question that he lists in the study guide and if you write down the answers that he goes over in class and look over them before a quiz or test you would do well in his class.
Mr. Conrad is amazing. His lectures have subtitles, different speeds, and a transcript if you want to read through the lecture after listening to it. His quizzes are all multiple choice, and the tests for each unit are SO straightforward, right from the lectures. He leaves little messages on the tests that are encouraging and fun to look at.
Lots of lectures but I put them in 2x speed and turn on captions (the cc isn’t always right though) all I can say is take notes and no need to by the textbook.
Tests and quizzes only.. givves a studfy guide and only questions you over content from that guide. Do the guides and youll have no problem
ONLY quizzes and exams can make or break your grade. We realized 1/2 through that the study guides are the same questions as the exam. Team up with your classmates & share your sections with the study guide. Made it less overwhelming to complete them on your own. Philosophy is confusing and the textbook doesn't make sense.
Omar Conrad is a great professor. My only issues with him is that during his lectures he does not write any notes on the board and does not have a powerpoint. So if you're not a fast notetaker, I would recommend recording his lectures. He also gives out zero assignments or extra credit, grades are 100% tests and quizzes only.
Lectures are long and messy. Doesn't follow the study guide well in class, and only has verbal material, nothing phsyical to look at. If you can fill out the study guide then you can do well on the quizzes/tests, but those are the ONLY grades in the book. Only way I passed was by listening to the online lectures and ignoring the in class material.
Prof. Conrad's lectures are amazing. He uses no visual aids or does any activities in class so it's imperative that you LISTEN and attend each lecture. Your grade is based only on quizzes and tests- if you pay attention in class and follow the study guide, you'll be fine. He sparked a huge interest in phil. for me and I'll be taking him again.
He is a nice person and he cares for you as a person but he is a truly horrible professor. He doesn't explain any of his topics, the test is only structured around tests and quizzes. The class is super confusing and extremely boring- also no discussions. If you actually want to successes at this class find a new professor
His lectures were always fun to listen to and really got me interested in philosophy!
I liked him, but he's not for everybody. He grades based on tests and quizzes. The only thing you need to do is listen to his audio lecture. There is only audio, nothing else. He was extremely interesting and I personally loved his lectures! But I didn't have as much time as I wanted to listen. If you like lectures/have time - take it! :)
Conrad is a good lecturer, his classes are direct and designed for you to understand. He is accessible outside class and willing to help. The class I took was only tests.
conrad was a great professor to have! he made the content engaging and understandable. the only thing that is a struggle with him is he's very lecture heavy. he does post lectures at the end of each class, which does help. generally speaking, he had straight-forward assignments, and the tests presented almost always correlated with them.
Awesome professor. He's a pretty nerdy guy and gives very animated lectures that took some getting used to, but in the end they really help you to understand the material. There's no homework, just eight quizzes and four exams (including the final). MAKE SURE you go to class because if you don't, there's really no other way to get the information.
One of the best I've had, amazing personality. He is so engaging with his lectures that it's entertaining at times. Very helpful, cares for the students, offers good help and resources. Would 110% Recommend
I like Professor Conrad, but that doesn't mean I've thought his class was easy. He's very passionate about philosophy but if you don't understand (and don't speak up) you will be left behind. The only grades in the class are his quizzes and tests. So, you better study and know the 8 or so readings per test well or you may lose a lot of points.
Conrad was an amazing professor. Grades are only based on quizzes and tests. Listen to the online lectures and it'll help you with the quizzes + tests. The study guides are really helpful for the exams as well as the quizzes. If you are planning to take Ethics, take him!
Professor Conrad is an engaging lecturer, but the course workload can be heavy. To succeed, attend class, take thorough notes, and utilize study tools like unstuckstudy ai alongside the textbook. With effort, you can do well.
He should start a podcast. His video lectures are great and he basically asks exam questions straight off of the study sheet that he gives you. Super easy class but also fun and interesting!
There was a total of 12 assignments all semester all quizzes and exams. If you even fail one of the exams it's impossible to get your grade back up due to lack of assignments. I would not recommend this class to anyone!
Professor Conrad is what made this class enjoyable and interesting. The class consists of 8 quizzes which are open note and open book and four tests which are open book. Professor Conrad taught what the author of the reading believed and didn't add any of his own opinions or commentary, which created an atmosphere conducive to learning.
8 quizzes and 4 exams the entire year, all of the exam questions are directly from the study guide he goes over in class each day. Clearly loves teaching, 10/10 would take again.
if you are taking his intro to ethics course all i can say is good luck. if you do not have an addiction or a religion to help you get through this class, i suggest you find one.
I enjoyed this class thoroughly. You are held to a high standard in that you need to well understand the arguments and philosophies of the people we study, which often means reading their work in the course book. His lectures are great though, and he is a very approachable professor. I would absolutely recommend this course and professor.
Very hard class for an intro class. Would not recommend unless you have interest in philosophy. Nice teacher but too hard of a class for beginners.
Took him for Intro to Philo, he was ok just like he was for this class. Smart dude, obviously cares about you knowing the material. He can be very tough on grading. His feedback isn't always the best either. Was an interesting class that made me think but I think I'll be done with taking him after this.
I had to work really hard to earn my grade. I asked him a ton of questions and he explained everything really well. He is passionate about his area of expertise. I used the in-person office hours a few times, which was more helpful than emailing back and forth. Content was challenging for me but worth it, good experience and would recommend him.
Lectures are audio files, about 30-45 minutes long with everything you need to complete notes. Exams are taken from the notes you've filled out (10 points), quizzes are multiple choice (6 points) and he only includes 2-3 philosophers to study each week. Voice could put me to sleep and his class is honestly super easy. 10/10 would take again!
Amazing lectures! Questions on tests are the exact questions on study guide so its important you do the study guide. When answering test questions, "Try thinking of your audience as someone who did not read the text or listen to the lecture." Tip from Professor Conrad really helped. Great feedback on assignments. Will need to purchase textbook
He brings a lot of enthusiasm to the classroom and is more willing to engage with students compared to other professors.
Professor Conrad gives the best lectures. Just pay attention, take notes in class, and read from the book. Smooth sailing if you do these things. He really knows his stuff and is super great with answering questions. Can't recommend him enough!
