Dr. Omar was somewhat difficult to understand, but improved as the semester went on. I strongly recommend getting ahead on reading and problems assigned, then ask clarification during class. I was completely lost several times, but after working the problems assigned (over & over) and getting his help-I finally got it! *get the calculator*
Professor is very helpful and clear but I guess the material itself is what is tough. Lots of homework which in turn is the material you will be tested on. tough exams and lots of formulas to remember. Get yourself a financial calculator you will need it throughout. Other than that professor is great, understanding and helps as much a he can
Dr. Esqueda is teaching a difficult subject, economics and finance. He helps the student by presenting the material in three different forms for the three different learning styles: Audio lecture with PowerPoint, chapter outlines for the the readers, and use of the SMART application through the e-textbook on McGraw-Hill. Good teaching style.
This class almost caused a nervous breakdown! SO MUCH WORK! Each chapter covered very quickly and the practice problems never seemed to really get you prepared for the exams, which are 65 percent of your final grade! I don't test well, which made this class extremely difficult. Not a lot of help from the instructor either.
I really enjoyed the economics portion of this class, and finance was difficult .There are quizzes for every chapter, and you must read the book to do well. The tests account for 65% of your overall grade (one eco test, two fin). Expect to spend a lot of time on hw and reading for this class, it was definitely a challenge!!!
I had him for case studies, and their was a lot of homework in the class but the content was useful. He is way too tough of a grader though. You can give it your all in this class and you will be very lucky to walk away with a C. You can use your notes on his quizzes, but they are so difficult that even your notes won't help much.
Dr. Esqueda is extremely knowledgeable. It does take a bit to get to where you understand him, but its not bad at all. I had him for case studies and it was a lot of work, but nothing too extreme. I HIGHLY recommend you meet with him for your presentations and send him every write up for him to read through beforehand. Do this and you will pass
This course is test heavy, so if you do well on the exams, then you will do great. The myfinancelab portion is time consuming, but contains a lot of useful and interesting information. Dr. Esqueda is a patient man and will give you the advice you need to pass. He also offered extra credit, which helped me out a lot. Overall, great course!
I never leave reviews but I made a point to go out of my way to help warn students to NOT TAKE THIS GUY. Very heavy accent, English is bad and hard to understand. He is a nice guy and will talk with you in his office but doesn't care if his students have success or not. Only 1 student passed Exam 1. The average grade on Exam 2 was a 51.
Great guy to talk to but he can not teach the subject. If you go by and ask questions during office hours its a 50/50 chance your question will get answered.
Average test score is around a 40 with a high test grade of 70. He forces students to teach the subject and when students are confused he does a poor job of explaining what they dont understand.
Absolutely terrible professor. Not only does he have a tough to understand accent with bad english, but he consistently shows up 5-10 minutes late to every class. He's incredibly rude to students and if you have trouble understanding something in class there's a less than 50% chance you will get your question answered. AVOID AT ALL COST!!
I took his class online. He gave over 12 quizzes and three group assignment that were only worth 35% of your grade. He gave three tests worth 65% of your grade. If you fail his test you fail his class, the class work didn't carry any weigh toward your grade. Don't take this class online. The work was long and complicated and the tests were hard.
Dr. Esqueda manages to do a 40slide PowerPoint in a matter of an hour then gives a quiz directly after that whirlwind of a presentation. If a brave soul does manage to ask a question he seems very unprepared to answer or even manage to do anything that could be considered help. Going to his office is no help either.
The absolute worst. There are 3 HW assignments that are to be completed in groups. His quizzes are usually messed up and you have to email him for credit. The test are ridiculous and proctored, nothing really to prep you for them either. Basically if you don't plan on reading the book front to back and teaching yourself everything don't take him.
Actually the WORST professor Ive ever had. Avoid at all costs. Completely unfair quiz and test questions. His approach to teaching is heres the book email me if you need anything. The text book is the worst text book Ive used in college and Im on my last semester of senior year. This professor shouldnt have a job at Tarleton. 0/10
Very nice guy overall. No problems with who he is as a person, but as a professor I would never take this class again. I took this class my last semester as a senior and barely pulled a D when I have never gotten a grade worse than a B. You have to teach yourself the whole class and I personally think it is impossible to pass a test. Best of luck.
if u take during summer make sure its the only class you take. if u didn't learn on the prerequisites DO NOT TAKE. it is vital to read ALL the material provided. Proctors everything. his testing isnt straightforward. u have to learn it. tends to ask the q's backward motion. (1+23 right? he'll ask ?+23) many dont pass, there is A LOT of INFO!
i HAD a 4.0 before this class. if you are trying for the highest gpa do not take, very few make even a C. no matter how hard you test you will make a C or less period. as if the class was not hard enough. he does trick questions. he also has the audacity to ask other pros for questions to put in his tests. how th do they even know what he is teach
TERRIBLE PROFESSOR. WHATEVER YOU DO, DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS. Im an accounting major with 4 straight semesters on the deans list. This is easily the worst professor I have ever had. He doesnt have a clue what he is doing. His tests are nothing like his reviews, and he has different rules for different days. Nothing is solid. Please dont take this.
CARES about his students. Curved the first test when we all did bad. Willing to schedule zoom meetings whenever is convenient for YOU. Tough course, content and grader, but want to help you learn the material. Genuinely the most caring professor I have ever had during my undergrad.
I dont know why Omar is rated so low, he is a GREAT professor. His class is very difficult, but he is more than willing to help and extend deadlines.
This is not a fly by your seat subject, you have to put in the time and effort. Having problems, keep Professor E aware he's willing to zoom with you with no issues. If your strong suite is not numbers, go into this subject with a tutor. The professor is great, the subject is a beast!
A lot of concepts and formulas to learn. The course was completely online and was divided into two parts. Able to practice the homework before submitting the final product. There were quizzes for each chapter and two test. Practice the homework especially the TVM concepts and formulas. Professor will work with you to clarify anything if needed.

Professor Esqueda teaches a hard class but wants his students to succeed. If you do the work assigned and take time to watch his lectures you will do fine in his class. He even let me retake a quiz that I had done poorly on, all you have to do is email him. He also responds to emails 7 days a week usually within an hour!
The class itself was somewhat hard, but thankfully you had "optional" practice of the homework. It shows you step by step and get practice in as many times as you want. The exams are similar to the homework's and quizzes. The only issue I had was ordering the book. Make sure your order the book WITH connect, use the links from the homework's.
Pretty horrible class honestly, did not seem to care about students. Not sure why he's teaching because he never preps and our classes are so awkward bc of it. Pretty uncomfortable and class times and is a hard grader but never gives feedback. Which makes sense bc he doesnt want us to do well.
Wouldn't let me select the course I took- FINC 5307. Overall a fair professor, but course is test heavy and quite difficult. Lots of homework, but can save you from the hard tests. 1 group project that is lengthy, but professor has lots of office hours and wants you to succeed.
Dr Esqueda is tasked with teaching a subject matter that can be seen as tough for many. Finc. is mandatory for many degrees. He is readily available to help and does a great job communicating his expectations. I have enjoyed Finc. because of his availability to help.
Finance isn't an easy course for some. It comes easy to me, and this is the second time I have taken Dr. Esqueda. He has been more than helpful both times. If you put the time and effort in, he won't let you fail. He wants to see his students succeed. The course is through Cengage, and his tests are half proctored and half not. 10/10
Professor Esqueda is does his best to ensure all students have access to his office hours and always replies when asked questions. Tests are worth a lot, and are proctored. There is one group project, also worth a lot. There are plenty of quizzes and homework that can help balance out your grade. Overall, a hard class, but a good professor.

Finance can be a difficult subject and I struggled with a few chapters that caused me to not do well on a test. However, this professor gives a ton of extra credit options which helped with that bad grade and I did very well in the class.
Professor Esqueda was an overall great professor. The class material is learned through a self-study course, but he is more than willing to meet with students to help with any knowledge gaps. There are a lot of homework and extra credit assignments, but it is important to do them as they will help with the knowledge.
Dr. Esqueda really cares about the success of his students. This course comprises of 1 HW and 1 quiz for each chapter, tests, and a group project. The tests are half proctored, half not. He also gives extra credit. Dr.Esqueda is always willing to help his students and wants them to pass. I recommend Dr.Esqueda!
He was knowledgeable and okay to work with but the textbook and information provided in the course were not sufficient if you aren't a strong finance/math student already. The instructor is quick to reply to questions but overall the amount of work in this class leaves little room for emails back and forth.
He is a very tough professor, that wants you to learn. He will take the time to discuss things that you do not understand, my biggest suggestion is to message him, email him, and go to his office hours, otherwise good luck.
Dr. Esqueda is a good professors, and once you get a hang of his class, you should be okay. The main people that do bad are the ones that don't put the work in. Do the quizzes twice, do the practice problems, and watch the lectures- you'll be fine.
Get ready to learn. The content in his classes are probably the most important to your future career. The tests are weighted heavily and there is a project at the end of the semester weighted heavily as well. This class is not easy, but nothing this far into a finance degree is. This is a quality class for the future.
The subject material can be difficult, but Dr. Esqueda genuinely cares about your success. If you are struggling, you need to meet with him in his office. He gives great feedback and is very helpful, but if you do not let him know you are struggling he cannot help you.

Most, if not all, work done in the class is done online through MindTap. This is similar to McGraw Hill. Very time consuming homework, but the group project was nice and fun.

While this is a very hard class, this professor gives every chance to help you excel in the class. You just have to do everything that is required and a little more. When there are video's to watch, watch them. If there is extra credit, do it. Finance is one of my hardest classes but I may actually get out of here with a C+ or a B.
This class was hard, but as long as you put in the effort. You will do fine, watch the lectures, look through the PowerPoints, and book. He is very easy to reach if you need help, I called him outside of office hours. He helped me with a question I was stuck on. If I can offer one piece of advice, use all of the resources he provides and study.
His assignments and assessments are fair, with clear guidelines and constructive feedback that challenge students to think critically. I highly recommend Dr. Esqueda to anyone interested in finance or business.
Through the help of professor Omar Esqueda and other students I got through most assignments. He provided videos of him explaining each lecture and also provided example videos of him working out problems for the chapters. Every email I sent him he always responded quickly and helped me as much as he could. I highly recommend this professor!
A fairly tough class as a whole, but professor responded to emails and shared feedback in a respectable timely manner. There is room to improve in the class with lots of time and space for extra credit.

This class definitely isn't the easiest material but as long as you try hard and do your best, Dr. Esqueda is pretty understanding. Be sure to participate in the simulation!!! It sounds scary, but it really isn't. Lots of teaching yourself, but it's an online course so it was obviously expected. I would take him again if I needed to!

Study the material and give yourself plenty of time to do homework. Math heavy. Quiz for each chapter. 5 exams. 1 group paper, was a bit confusing so ask questions. Helps to have a knowledge of excel. A financial calculator is beneficial. 2 pages notes for tests. Opportunities for extra credit. Many good videos on youtube and sources like Pearson+
The class itself is very hard (coming from a Marketing major Lol), but Dr. Esqueda is a nice professor. He has always had pretty clear and prompt responses anytime I have reached out with questions. His exams are proctored. For a 10 week summer class, I was satisfied with the course.
My advice when taking Dr. Esqueda is to read the materials given thoroughly. If you have a strong grasp of the financial concepts he teaches you will find the quizzes and tests easy to take.
Overall great professor, but the course was definitely difficult. Heavy on homework and Exams so be prepared. However, Dr. Esqueda is there to help anytime, and he engages well with students.

This professor came off as helpful but was not. He emails quickly, but it is not always beneficial. The group project feedback was bland; when we corrected what we got wrong, we were still wrong in his eyes. When you asked why he graded the way he did and how we could improve, he said, "Just try your best."......
He is a good professor and he truly cares about his students. If you read the book, watch his lectures, and try you will pass the class. The book is the most important part of this class and will be your map for getting a good grade! I would 10/10 recommend!
The class isn't too difficult, the stock project is the most difficult part of the class. Make sure to hit all of the requirements for full credit as it determines the majority of your grade.
Only use excel
Investments was a very lecture-heavy class, and it sometimes felt that notes in class didn't help on the test. The assignments can be tedious, but they can be completed if you allot enough time. Dr. Esqueda is very helpful if you ask questions or go to office hours.
Assigns individual projects but gives good instruction and videos to explain everything within class. Will work with you to reschedule exams if you are unable to attend a certain day.
This class is time consuming, but the professor does provide all the needed materials in a timely manor. Be ready to read, watch roughly hour long lectures, and make adequate time for assignments. Very good class, just make sure you have an appropriate amount of time allotted for this course specifically.

This is my second class with Dr. Esqueda. He is fair, respectful, and willing to work with students. Dr. Esqueda is knowledgeable of the material and I enjoy taking classes with him. Be ready to know and study the material and you'll do just fine.

Dr. Esqueda was very clear on his instructions and grading. If I ever had a question he would answer it in a timely manner. It's also important to understand that you have to put your work in as well especially in a online class. Overall, I would take this class again.
The class was difficult and required a lot of studying, but that is expected for a Finance class. The professor always answered questions and emails very quickly and was helpful. Beware that the exams must be taken at a certain time over Zoom so this was a little hard to work around with my work schedule but he did offer multiple time options.

Good professor, gave out 4 exams, a quiz per chapter, a final and a 9pg page paper at the end of the semester. If you pay attention in class and study the quizzes and material, you should do good.

I recommend taking Dr. Esquada's class if you are willing to put in the necessary work. You will not be able to just ace any test without studying. We had 2 projects; one team project and one individual project. Dr. Esquada is willing to explain the material if you have any additional questions during his office. He knows what he is talking about.

Dr. Esqueda is a very knowledgeable professor, and pushes students to produce high-quality work. However, I found it difficult to learn from his PowerPoints and lectures. Majority of my learning was self-taught, but he is willing to help students in need. Be prepared for two major finance projects that will take a lot of time and dedication.
Dr. Esqueda is adamant about helping his students, provides detailed instruction and is willing to work with students to achieve academic success. You will have to be diligent to be successful in his class.
Dr. Esqueda was a great professor for Investments 2. He always had a positive attitude and gave helpful, timely feedback. He genuinely appreciated our class interaction, which made the course more engaging. The workload was challenging at times, but his quizzes really helped prepare us well for the exams.
I'd highly recommend Dr. Esqueda for Investments II. He is always available to help during and out of class time. He genuinely seems interested in the subject and consistently engages with students to check on their progress with projects.

Honestly, the worst professor I ever had throughout my time in college. Grading was inconsistent, references textbooks often that aren't listed in the syllabus. Very sad that the college doesn't offer another professor for finance capstones.
Class is very hands on. Print the schedule and leave it on your desk or attach it to your calendars so you can stay on task. You have multiple quizzes, assignments, exams. Each exam has a proctored portion in Respondus and portion that isn't. One group project paper. This class will definitely keep you busy!

The professor was excellent, and the course materials were well-organized, making it easy to follow even for someone like me without a finance background. The class project helped reinforce the concepts, allowing me to better understand the topics covered in the homework and exams.
I'm not great at finance and I did better in his class than any finance class prior. Be careful with the project, he cuts it up into different due dates, which I appreciate, but if a mistake with the submitting is made, in our case submitting the example on accident instead of our actual project, then you're SOL.
The material he provided for homework and exams was easy to understand. Everything you need is in the textbook and the modules. The main issue that I had was the unclear instructions for the group project. The first submission is easy and simple; however, the draft and the final draft stumped the entire class.

This class was very test heavy, 5 tests worth 55% of the grade and a group project that is worth 15%. The tests are tough but you can pass with doing the homework,reading the books/lectures and watching the chapter video. The group project is tough and large, we got a lot of comments but not much for directions on how to improve from the comments.
Took as a summer online class. The material can be difficult, lots of math and excel use. He gives extra credit opportunities. Which in my case ended up being a need after some of the group project grades. Overall a decent class and I would take him again!

This is the second finance class I have taken. It is definitely better than the class I took for my Bachelor's degree.
Overall, it was a straightforward course to take, and the layout was easy to understand. Just had to follow the modules and do the homework assignments along with the quizzes for each chapter and take the exams too. However, the one thing that was a bit difficult to get a good understanding of was the group project.
The course was professionally taught and inspired professionalism. It was an exercise in self-learning,time-management and collaboration. Core concepts explored include free cash flow (FCF), and capital budgeting . The Final Project gave practical real life exposure to financial calculations,and provided a great way of applying the concepts
Dr. Esqueda's assignments are time-consuming. The textbook was hard for me to understand, might have been my fault, but I am an auditor and interested in financial topics. I took COBA 5102 Foundations of Finance last year and did well with a high A, but struggled in this course. Project instructions unclear. Zero stars, would not recommend.

Extremely time-consuming class with heavy workload from homework, quizzes, exams, and a group project. Instructions and feedback especially for the group project were vague. Many students dropped, and exam averages were very low. Be prepared to commit a lot of time and effort.
This is not an easy course, there is lot of reading and this is a heavy workload course. There are many homework assignments, quizzes and exam, as well as a large group project. Having a good understanding of excel is almost a necessity for this course. The extra is helpful, but expect to spend a lot of time studying for this course.

This course is designed to help increase your knowledge of financial analysis and capital budgeting. The course had a lot of work and a lot of reading. Taking this course in the summer increased the pressure and speed of the assignments. Overall, it was a good course, though.

Homeworks, quizzes, and exams can be difficult, but he does offer a good amount of extra credit with each module. He graded pretty tuff on our final project so make sure before you submit it send in the finished project for him to review and give feedback and make any necessary changes.
If you are reading this, take it with someone else. This class was terrible. Test heavy, very difficult. Full of work. Project paper had very vague instructions and expectations. It's not a very fun subject and it's not like he made it any more enjoyable. Probably the worst class I've taken so far in the MBA. Steer clear of this one.
Tough course. Test heavy, quiz heavy, homework heavy, final report paper which is graded heavily despite a very lack of directions or guidance available. Offers a bunch of extra credit towards the end of the course. Why? Cause he knows his course sucks and it's difficult. I felt like he could have made it easier or more enjoyable.
Took finance 3301 over summer 8-week course. We covered on average one chapter a week with homework/example problems and a quiz each week (open book open notes), then 3 exams and a final. Exams questions pulled from quizzes with additional multiple choice pulled from lecture videos. One paper over investment simulation.
This class is so hard for no reason. He makes it so much harder than it needs to be. And I tried to ask him for help MULTIPLE times and he did nothing. He seems really nice so I don't understand why he isn't trying to help more especially when the whole class is struggling!!!! Take this class with someone else
Professor Esqueda is one of the worst professors I have had at Tarleton. He is one of the most unorganized people. His quizzes and papers are not structured. The instructions he gives are not enough for you to actually get a good grade; he will grade them and mark off for something that wasn't even in the criteria. Overall would NEVER take him.

The material in this class is very tough. If you make an effort, he will help you the best he can. There are multiple chances for extra credit throughout the semester. This is not a class that you can coast through; you need to study. The tests are extremely difficult and really test how much you understand the material.
