It's tough course, but worth it. Lots of guest speakers to keep it interesting. Final exam (mock trial) is a killer.
Prof adjusts the course to the interest of the students, which is much more work for him but makes a huge difference.
I've never had a Prof respond quicker to emails, usually a 24hr turnaround. He's very responsive to questions.
I didn't know what to expect with this class, because it's all about ethics and law. But the prof made it interesting and showed how it can apply to our field, which I never expected. I would say keep an open mind if you're considering this class you could have fun with it.
I had fun with this class. Tough material though.
Fun class. Lots of participation.
Moot Final FTW!!!
It's a tough topic, but he makes it interesting with news stories and real life examples. I'd definitely recommend this course.
This class was really useful for me once I started working. No textbook, so it is all based on real world stories and articles. Also saves me some money!
He was an amazing prof..extremely generous when it comes to marks and is also extremely helpful and clear. He's also really chill and pretty funny. Enjoyed being in his class. Got an A overall
all the test materials are done in class. great examples, well rounded teacher, definitely would recommend taking his class.
you must take his class. he is a great teacher. once your in class for his lectures you will have no problem on the exam! he an amazing teacher!
One of the best I have ever had. I liked him so much I am taking other courses he teaches too.
Omar will take a course like intro law and actually make it fun.
Worth taking at least once if you're at Ryerson.
One of the most helpful profs ever! He discussed career options with me and even wrote a reference for my law school application.
It can be easy to take him off on tangents, but the tangents are usually really interesting so I didn't mind much at all. He has a real passion for teaching and loves inspiring students. Super busy, but hey, who isn't.
I have a love/hate relationship with Omar. He's a super nice guy, his classes are engaging and he's a very generous marker. However, he is so disorganized. He didnt give us back our midterm marks until a month later and he posts all important info in the discussion board on blackboard. Overall though, he's a great prof
The exams in this class are very difficult, but it's the same exam for all sections. If I had to pick I'd still choose Omar because he makes the class really interesting. I brought some of my friends from another section to his class and they just loved his hyper antics and zany humor.
Very animated, very interesting prof, and easy to listen to. Not bad on the eyes either.
Most interesting class I took in the GIS Certificate.
Upbeat class, really interesting, and practical for what I want to do in my field.
I did pretty well in this class, and I think the one reason for that is that I would come early every single week. The prof is usually there well before the class starts. He won't go over material that he's about to cover, but you can learn a lot from him just by having a conversation. I know it helped me tons with my assignment.
I took this class in the Chang school but had to drop, and then took it again with this instructor in the day program. His delivery style is informal and fun, and definitely keeps me interested. Sit in the front row if you want to save on coffee.
There is so much to learn in this class it's ridiculous. He's pretty good about covering the important stuff, but if you want to do well try to get him outside of class. He likes using blackboard alot, and if you post your questions there he will give you very detailed answers. Those answers saved my life.
I did this course as an elective in my program, and I'm really glad that I did. Learnt things I use in my job all the time, especially at my last interview.
122 is a tough course any way you swing it.
If you are willing to work with his schedule, he will spend time with you to go through your exams in detail, which is very helpful. He can also help you with your career goals and what you might want to do after school, and has some really insightful views.
Lots of practical, outside of the class type of stuff here.
Great prof that emphasizes the concepts of employment and labour law. Uses useful examples to help illustrate concepts and makes sure there is comprehension by students.
When you have a paper due go see him. He'll help you out and give you feedback. Definitely willing to make time for the students.
You're not going to get much leniency with him if you try to turn in a paper late, but he will make the time to give you feedback and help you out. Impressive enough given how busy he is as a lawyer and all.
Just study. Seriously. If you read the book cover to cover you will get an A. Don't read it in the exam.
hands down the most interesting course in the codg certificate. lots of discussion about stuff going on.
There is no way to get an A unless you do the work. Really, you have to do the work. But if you do you can get an A in this course, especially because so many students don't do the work.
Actually made the law fun.
Chillest prof. Definitely makes it easier to study.
He is tough marker and does not provide good feedback. Does not do any practice questions in class, this makes it harder to answer his exam questions because you don't know what he is looking for. Makes the class harder than it is suppose to be.
Very generous marker, but only IF you actually do the work. He makes lots of extra time outside of class to meet with students, and do reviews, but hardly anyone takes advantage of it. The review actually covered everything I needed to know on the exam. Overall an excellent experience.
Great class.
There is a lot to read in this class, but come to class and pay attention and you will get the most important stuff.
Took this course as an elective in my program. Way too much reading in my opinion, and enough there for two classes. Interesting enough though and glad I took it.
Engaging lectures. Worth taking.
Really interesting lectures, and brings the textbook to life.
Omar can totally be silly, but he makes me laugh.
I had a really tough time in my personal life, and this course was pretty tough for me because of how much you have to read. The prof made it a lot simpler and easier to understand, so when I went to the book I was able to make sense of it. I'm really greatful for help he gave.
I've taken 3 courses in Ryerson law. Omar isn't any easier. But he's more fun. Do the work.
If you put in the extra work to review and study Omar will help you out. There are even discussion boards he sets up where he'll help you. And surprise, that help actually is useful for the exam.
Really nice guy. But it's a brutal course with tons of reading to do.
he is ok, very funny in class, and he is fair
i had to drop because he's expecting too much from law 122 and the students plz its intro to business law. he's annoying and says he can't give more than 50 on assigments so why bother doing the assignment or putting in work when he already knows what he's going to give to the class, tries to prepare you for upper law courses instead idgaf
Nice guy and class is never boring. He marks hard and he has an expectation that students are going to do bad. He tells us before exams that we won't do good in the class because of "the curve". Better off taking Law122 with another prof.
I transferred into this class after the first midterm, so I can compare a bit between profs. 122 is a killer. It's going to be a killer regardless. But I stuck with it to the end, and paid really, really close attention to what the prof said in class, and it turned out much better than I think it would have in the other section.
He's superrrr nice. His lectures are very engaging and he always tries to add real world examples to concepts. His exams are fair. Go to class otherwise you'll miss important examples he'll test you on. If all you do is read the textbook and the slides, you won't do well. You have to go to class as he brings up random little details that matter
I come from an HR major, so this was pretty easy for me. Loved the class.
The trick here in this class is to actually pay attention to what Omar says. Most students won't bother, so if you just put a bit of effort into this you'll actually do better than everyone else. Oh yeah, and try reading the book.
Reading the textbook and going to the weekly lectures is going to very helpful for you to better understand concepts (he is very good at explaining) and get a good grade. Found him arrogant but knows what he is talking about. Not as hard of a course than I expected, but it was because of his knowledge in the field (is a lawyer). I would recommmend
He does not answer very clearly and specifically when you ask in the discussion board. can be funny, but sometimes can be such a bother when you actually want to learn and he keeps making jokes. He was a good professor in terms of staying attentive in class because he references recent things (dayum daniel) but he doesnt explain things well
Probably one of the best profs I've had at Ryerson. Pay very close attention to what he says. Go to every class. Take serious notes during the reviews. He's there to help you, if you let him, but he won't spoon feed you either. Getting an A in this class means you actually earned it by doing the work.
Let's just put it this way. I have a few friends taking this course in other sections. We all did the same final exam. I killed it because of the review Omar gave. My friends totally did not. Enough said.
Best thing about the prof? He loves to teach, and enjoys being in the classroom. The worst? The other students who won't do any work, so we waste time with the same questions or ones that are clearly in the book. Primo quality.
Really engaging.
It's law (puke). Not really my thing. But it went down a bit easier with his laid back style.
My only law class in this certificate, but he made it useful for me!
There's no textbook here, which can be tricky, but if you pay attention and do the work it is a great course.
This was my last course in the program, and it was probably the best. Really interesting and contemporary content.
Omar makes employment and labour law interesting. He gives up-to-date cases and real life examples which helps students understand concepts. He is very approachable and guides you through exam concepts and answers discussion questions in a very timely manner. Overall, best prof I've ever had - will definitely take another course with him.
Goes way beyond the book, which is good because you get some real insight into the field, but it also means you're doomed if you miss even a single class. Skip class at your own peril.
No complaints.
One of the most fascinating courses I've ever taken during my entire time at Ryerson. Really cutting edge.
Best prof at Ryerson. Hands down.
Hardest professor I have ever seen. WAY TOO ARROGANT!!!! No time for his students at all. AVOID.
Second time taking this course (I dropped the first time). Much better this time around.
One of my better teachers last term. Very chill. Easy to get along with.
If you can put in the work, it will show. And take advantage of the students who don't, it's actually a real big plus. I am shocked how many people just come in with the open book exam and that's it.
Did this class in the summer. Was really relevant, especially with the recent American elections and how much misinformation you can find on the Internet. Definitely recommend.
Really solid prof. More interesting than the other sections. I sat in on a few of the others too.
AMAZING Prof, that has extremely entertaining and thought-provoking lectures. Hard marker.
In my 4th year now and I can say that taking this class with Omar has helped me in my law major. Strong foundation of law that really helped me do well. Yes, you'll work for the A.
Entertaining prof A lot better in the beginning of the course than towards the end (gets a little annoying) Class makes you think Not as hard as he makes it out to be Make sure to go to class focus on ppt and read txt if u can
Omar is absolutely amazing. He makes business law fun and interesting to learn. He is inspirational, hilarious, and cares about his students. He is always available to explain or discuss something, and he is really helpful. He is tough and demanding. You have to go to class if you want to receive a good grade.
Hes funny in class. My second time taking him but his marking scheme is harder than other profs. If your looking for an easy class avoid him. If you want funny jokes that arent on the exam take him.
I agree with all of the comments, the good and the bad. He can really be tough, especially about late assignments and things, but at the same time I think he's worthwhile. You have to attend class, no question about it. At the end of it I really think he's there to help us, and usually does.
Law major in my final year now. And looking back I think doing 122 with Omar really helped me. He sets the stage for a lot of the upper year law classes. You don't realize it really when you're doing it. Glad I did. Recommend for others.
Simple formula here: Come to class. Sit in the front. Pay attention. Do the readings before class. Practice and study before the exam. Especially make sure you come to the review classes. Just do that and you are already better than 95% of the class. And you get an A. It's not magic.
Probably the most useful course in the HR program. Ties things together, beyond the law, into areas like Organizational Behaviour ("I'm an OB geek") and management theory. Really into the material, passionate about the topics.
His exams are brutally tough. But it made the final easier. I think I learned something.
GO TO HIS FINAL EXAM REVIEW!!!!!!
He will try to scare you in the first class, so hard. And if people drop, the wait list gets in, which I think is what he wants. But once you're in, stay, because it's better than the other sections. I went to my friend's and then transferred in, and it made a world of differents.
Pretty straightforward.
You have to come to class if you want to do well.
This class is a huge L. Avoid
Good choice for non-law majors.
You have to try very hard if you want to fail, and even then, it's tough. I won't say it's an easy course, but there's enough support to help you get through.
Took this as the last course in my program. Great overview of opportunities in the field.
Really helped me understand the basic stuff in law in a way that made sense
Omar is an awesome prof! He goes out of his way to make content interesting and engaging by giving relevant examples and being overly enthused- especially when he can sense the energy in the room is low. I appreciated that. He loves when you participate, I didn't though lol. Super fair marker, make sure to give case law examples for extra marks.
I took this class over the summer in Chang after trying it during the year. Much easier to understand, really explained the legal concepts for me in a way that I understood better.
Lots of reading in this course, but also very clear about what kind of exam you will be dealing with. I wouldn't call it an easy class, but if you put in just a bit of work you're already ahead of most of everyone else. RIDE THE CURVE!!!
I didn't really like Omar because he seemed a little unorganized at first and can go off topic sometimes. I considered dropping the course. I am SO happy that I didn't! An amazing professor, so interesting, one of my faves. There is one midterm, one essay and a final. You have to go to class because he gives examples of cases, very helpful
If you still have your 122 notes and know your stuff, this course is actually pretty easy. Really an extension of contract and torts but in employment law.
Pretty straightforward class. Exams are a time crunch. Nothing there that you shouldn't know from lectures.
Just finished this class in the Winter term (the semester seems to matter), and I would regularly sit in on another class (because of my work schedule). The exams are killer for every section. It's the same exam for the final. But compared to what I learned with the other sections, this one was much better. More focused, easier to understand.
The course pack is really old, and isn't always what he'll use on an exam. Be sure to come to class because he will explain the things he wants you to know, and the things that are not as important and won't be on the exam. Tries to update the articles on the course website but it's stuff that should be in the pack instead.
Honestly the only way I passed this course is I paid attention to every class. He will use stuff from class on the exams, but you don't even notice it unless you're actually listening carefully. Half the class doesn't even show up, so that makes it way easier if you just do a little
DON'T SKIP CLASS!!! Seriously. You can probably pass the course just by coming, but I wouldn't recommend it. Trying to do well without coming to class is just not time efficient.
Omar is a great prof. You will never have a boring lecture with him. He is also very fair, all of his midterm questions will only be on the material he went through in the lectures; never any surprises. To do well in this class, go to class and listen to everything he says. If he is available, take him because at least you won't be bored.
Omar has done much more for me than just a course - he has helped me with my career. He's a busy lawyer (yes, he's actually a lawyer), but if you work with him he finds the time for his students.
You can read and try to memorize the statute. Or you can go to class. Omar will highlight the important parts for you, which makes it waaaaay easier.
He is easily the worst prof Ive ever had at ryerson. He does not care about anybody but himself, and his has a really big ego. Worst of all, he is a horrible person and even worse prof. If you want to do well, and also learn a lot, avoid him at all costs and especially for LAW525. No matter what ratings you see, AVOID if you want to do well.
Absolutely brilliant professor, if you can pay attention and understand what he is getting at. He won't give you the answers. He will teach you to think so you can figure out the answers. One of the best I've had at Ryerson.
Better than the larger sections. Hands down.
He explains concepts well with the use of many examples. Although the course pack was awful, he did make it manageable by adding more relevant information and pointing out important details.
Take this class in the summer - the summer students are so waste man. Easy to do well if you do even a little work.
Honestly, the best prof I have ever had, super chill, and did a great job explaining the concepts. barely had to do any studying.
Took this a year ago. I'm using it already in my job.
There is no textbook in this class, so the readings are really all over the place and impossible to follow. Important to never miss a single class, and that's where it all comes together. I did half the reading of my friends who didn't come, and did much better than them. Really interesting stuff too, and challenging.
This class didn't require a textbook except the reading that was required was from articles Omar posted. The course itself is interesting and integrates a lot of relevant concepts. My only critique is the lack of predictability. Many articles that were posted weren't tested on and some of the stuff he said would be not the final weren't.
Super interesting class, but there is also a lot of reading involved of web stuff online.
Avoid taking this class with him! He spends all the class time talking about unrelated topics and rushes through 25 slides in the last 5 minutes . LOTS of online readings, note taking, online and in class participation. Midterm was harder than the exam. Annotated bibliography was marked unfairly. Take this class in the spring/summer or with Storus
I'd take it again.
Probably the best course in Ryerson.
Omar is a very tough grader! To the point that it is unfair. People in same class with other prof got way better marks. Don't take him if you care about your gpa. He talks a lot, rude at times too.
Maybe this was easier because it was summer, but all you had to do was get by on the exam and then kill it with the group work. Interesting stuff, needed more time to digest it all though.
Fun class. For law.
Tough exams. But fair. Everything was covered in class.
I liked Omar a lot, and he's pretty chill except for one thing. You can't ask him to make your mark higher. He won't do it. I only need another 1 percent to get a higher grade but he still wouldn't do it.
Didn't like the paper, but otherwise it was a fun course.
LAW is not an easy course, you need to work & study hard in that class to do well. Omar is a below-average professor, however, he can be rude & disrespectful to the class. He doesn't go over any cases and his tests are hard for no reason. Switch out if you can, cause you'll find a respectful professor who isn't Omar.
Very disrespectful professor. Doesn't cover the course material, talks about himself instead. Doesn't take questions well, retorts back rudely instead of answering. Terrible people skills.
Spends 90% of the class talking about himself, then goes through 30 slides in the last 5 mins and expects you to follow along. Very unprofessional and rude.
No time for students and super arrogant. Easily the worst law professor at Ryerson, avoid if you care about your gpa. Grades unfairly.
Omar has no time for his students and always finds an excuse to justify himself. He definitely grades unfairly and punishes people for asking questions, not to mention that he takes class time to talk about himself and not the course. Avoid him if you care about your gpa, or if you're interested in learning.
Rude professor who talks down to students. Hard to get help from him. Marking schemes are unclear and surprises you later in the course.
If you take law with him, you will be advertised for your final. He doesnt even put the make-up exam on the time that he told us. I was upset with my grade because I really study hard.
Tough class but a great professor, you must read the textbook in order to do well in the class.
This was all online (pandemic times), but seemed pretty good. Did the best he could I guess given the circumstances, and made extra time (you have to show up!) for students as needed.
This was the online version, which was different from when I took it during the school year. All the content is there, but really it's a lot easier to understand if you spend a few minutes with him during office hours. There was a HUGE amount of marks for participation on the bulletin board, which was a bit of a pain, but easy enough to do.
This prof was terrible. I was having technical difficulties with the final and he would not help me at all. Just kept saying that he cannot do anything and I should contact I.T. but I.T. is CLOSED ON SATURDAYS. I was able to write a makeup exam with the help of my Academic advisor and now he's not replying to emails anymore regarding my makeup mark
Pros: Omar is an intelligent and energetic person. He is passionate about the law and access to justice. He provides useful insights about the legal profession. Cons: He is a tough grader and seems really busy for his students. He can be condescending and arrogant sometimes. He is sometimes disrespectful and inconsiderate towards students.
I had to take this course over again during the pandemic. Taking the course online was pretty tough to begin with. I spent some time with him during office hours. I don't think a lot of students did that. He didn't spend a lot of time with me, but it was actually pretty helpful to understanding how I should approach the course.
Super practical class, with lots of hands on skills. Makes time in his busy schedule for meetings with groups and myself.
Pay attention to class and you will be fine.
Really great prof. No nonsense. Gets through the materials in a fun and talkative way.
Omar is a great guy, you can tell he cares about students. However, his lectures are definitely discussion-based (no slides, students mostly talking) which is typically fun but its definitely a struggle when it comes time for tests! If you're an independent learner then go for it, but most students need the extra guidance which you may not receive.
Omar lacks empathy for students & their needs. He uses lectures as his own seminar to discuss personal topics and often deviates from course material. Provides 0 accommodation for students who test positive and are forced to miss material. Exams cover topics never discussed nor included in course pack. If you care about your grades/success, avoid!!
He is a very knowledgeable and interesting person. Provides interesting examples in class and makes the lectures engaging. However, the tests are hard as you aren't guided on exactly what you will be tested on. He gives very limited time for the amount of writing expected on the tests. If you arent interested in law I don't recommend this course.
I took this course more than once (previously with another prof), so I know that this is a challenging course generally. I stuck with it with this prof, and I'm glad that I did. He tells lots of interesting stories. What is more important is that the lessons from those stories are on the exam! You can catch it if you pay attention to it.
Great prof, but I asked him to increase my mark by just a little bit and he said he couldn't do it. I was only asking for a few fractions of a percentage! Anyhow, he said that it would mess up the curve, which is something to keep in mind if you're taking this course.
This was a pretty straightforward class. The trick seems to be to just do more than what the others in your section do (which isn't that hard tbh). All online. And all self-taught really, but you'll get direction. Most importantly, the marking is actually fair. Rewarded for doing better with good grades.
Honestly, if you; 1. know the format IRAC, by heart, 2. can identify legal issue, 3. able to articulate ur viewpoint in relation to the applicable rule, u will do perfectly fine. Read the textbook and be able to understand the content is key, also practice the textbook questions and re-do discussion questions to get the hang of the format properly.
Omar seems like a great person outside of class but he uses lectures to talk about himself. He doesn't actually teach. In a typical class, he will maybe cover 20/80 slides meaning you have to go over it on your own. If you are a fan of structured classes then this may not be the class for you. Also wasn't a fan of how he structured the exams
Omar is a very knowledgeable prof. The lectures were engaging, and there was a weekly guest speaker. He is clear about his expectations and grades fairly.
Lectures are not well-structured compared to other courses however he made the exam questions very open ended. He also tries his best to give you as many marks as possible on exams
You really could just learn about the topic by paying attention and making sure you provide very, very detailed responses on the exam. Lots of opportunities to customize your response based on whatever angle you want to take, as long as you don't freeze.
Really the biggest tip here is to come to class on time (meaning early), because in the first 5 min of class (after the official start time) there was tons and tons of insight into the exam. And then in the 15 min that follows you see half of the class come late and miss it all - probably complaining after the fact about how lost they are.
Omar is a great teacher and person. He genuinely cares about his students and, as busy as he is, tries really hard to connect with each one. As the course progresses, more and more students will need 1-on-1 time with Omar which he always tries to accommodate. Sometimes you forget that this is an instructor and not a highly intelligent friend.
Late Review - I took him during the Spring 2025 term, and he was an amazing professor. Content was heavy, but he made every lecture clear and fun to participate in. There were 3 class reflections, a midterm, a final exam, and participation. Professor Redeye helps you prepare for the midterm and final really well. Overall, would recommend!
Doesn't help anybody outside his class. Has the resources and recently got into helping families of his choice. If you are a student of his, no chance. He wants you to go through the process of the unfair legal system first, and he wont help any friends. Won't even tell you how to get in touch with his services.
