I had this Prof. for one of my early Fresh. Eng. Classes. It was his ethics class. I liked the material a lot and he was very helpful. He goes out of his way for his students. I haven't had him in 2 yrs and he still always says hi in the halls and asks how my other classes are going. He also still offers advising if I need it.

He is an awesome professor. He is very nice. If you need his help go to him and he will help a lot. He is one of the best English professors here at Cal State. Just do the work, which is easy, a bit time consuming, and you will pass his class with flying colors!!!

I got to have him for 2 quarters. Moran is an amazing prof. He is very funny and as long as he sees you put in some effort on the work he will give you a good grade. He is very organized and grades the work in a decent time. I wish all prof's were as friendly and nice as him. Plus the essays were interesting. Take Him! You won't regret it.

Hes a really good teacher. If you have any questions he will answer them so understand. He does not like to give out hard finals. Only thing is he ALWAYS takes attendance.

I had Dr. Moran for English 105 and 106; he was an awesome professor and he made class fun. The essays were interesting, which made it easier to get a higher grade in the class. Overall the class was fun and interesting, take him if possible! I would take him again.

Don't procrastinate! u guys will get chance to proofread ur partner's papers. gives out xtra credit if u go to writing center. I wasn't expecting to like this class as much as I did, but Dr. Moran is definitely one of the best at CSUSB. He is pretty passionate about American Lit., and some of the things he says is just lol funny. He gave me feedback on something I wrote for a creative writing class, and it was so helpful. Great guy, awesome professor!

great teacher, pretty easy class. you can have 3 absences but class isnt bad to go to. the first half of the quarter is learning and the second half is writing. its pretty chill and hes definately not hard to look at for an hour. no tests, but a couple one or two page papers are assigned

I've never done one of these, but I loved Moran's class (and him as a professor) so much that I had to. From the get go, Professor Moran was fantastic! His passion for poetry and teaching poetry made the class actually enjoyable. He is VERY helpful and understanding about any issues or questions during class, and extremely knowledgable. Fav class!

One of the coolest professors I've taken so far. He definitely makes class very interesting because he interacts with the class in discussion. Your gonna need his book because he assigns readings from there & the essays are based off of them. Super friendly guy & people should def take his class.

I love this guy. Prof Moran is awesome. I'm a Bio-Chem major and I dreaded taking this class, but am glad I did. Topics were extremely interesting and applicable, from ethics to film studies. Not too overwhelming. His knowledge is impressive and he goes out of his way to help you with the writing. Fun class with a nice, down to earth, funny guy.

Great professor! Incredibly insightful and helpful. He is just an all around great guy. The lectures are interesting and he helps you with anything you might be struggling with. Just be sure to read the material and show up to class and you should do fine. I highly recommend this professor... plus he is funny and nice to look at!

Best Prof I've had in my years at csusb and has been an inspiration to me since taking his classes. His english 107 is a very interesting class considering the philosophical perspective he takes on the material. His poetry analysis 301 is extremely well lectured and insightful as well. Completely recommend him for any english course!

Most class sessions are simply discussions. 3 out-of-class essays, 2 in-class essays, and 2 one page assignments. Possible to get no credit on 2 in-class essays, and still pass the class. Moran is very lenient, and will do his best to understand you. Overall, an easy class, as long as you get credit on most of the essays.

Easily one of the most interesting professors I've had. Grade is made up of two tests and an essay. The tests could be trivial but he gave an opportunity for a good amount of extra credit. Very interesting and helpful professor, I feel like I learned a lot in the subject. Just go to class and take good notes for a good grade.

By far the best professor ive had. He's super laid back and really nice. Essays are only 5 pages and pretty easy to construct. No tests or anything, the "final" was just like a reflection. By far the best English Proffessor I've tooken by far. Makes class very interesting (not to mention he's very good looking) and essays are minimum of 5 pages! Final is a reflection not hard, no midterms just essays. If you don't pass you obviously didn't try on your papers or attended class.

I've had Prof Moran in two classes. This one was harder. There is a lot of reading and you have to take good notes and you can't miss class. The tests are no joke. I took him expecting a ton of essay however you only do 4 in the whole quarter. The final and longest is 4 pages. He helped me with all papers and is truly a kind professor and easily one of my favorites. The topics you have to write about are movies so its fun as well.

Large lecture class. You need to show up, take good notes, read and study. A lot of people don't show up or read and complain they fail exams. Duh. I got a C+ on my midterm and Prof Moran showed me how to take better notes and helped me with the term paper. I got an A on the final and term! Thanks Prof! You will learn a lot and he is super cool.

Class was easy. You must read and take good notes. Whoever says this class is hard is lazy and failed to read the assigned readings. Two tests and a 5 page paper at the end. i SUCK AT WRITING HOWEVER HE MAKES IT SIMPLE AND EASY. You can get straight Cs on essay and Bs on the quizzes and still have a chance at an A for your grade. He is cool and adds flavor to my worst subject.

The class isn't easy (at least if you want an A). You will read over 1000 pages by the end, have to memorize a lot of literary terms and attendance is crucial. Term paper was 7 pages. I had Professor Moran for English 107. Throughout the quarter, we wrote three argumentative essays and two in class essays. The book is not really necessary but he requires it because two of the essays are based on the biography. Overall, he is a great and funny professor. His lectures will keep students entertained.

At first, I struggled with the amount of reading in this class because there is a lot the first half of the quarter. However, once you move into poetry and plays it eases up. He has pop quizzes on reading with questions you can't bs your way through. Also questions on midterm and final are based off in-class convos so you have to show up

If youre going to take an English class you should expect there to be lots of reading assignments. Theres only one term paper. He gives students info of what will be on the exams through out class discussions so make sure you go to class! There are quizzes too so read all titles as well. All readings were super interesting and I learned a lot!

The class is straightforward which I appreciate. You show up, you read, take notes, go over the terms he gives you and you pass. The stuff he puts on the board and on blackboard are on the test. Not your typical English class. Dr. Moran is incredibly smart and you write papers on human behavior, ethics, literature and then film. Some of the readings are challenging but the way he breaks them down and makes you think is amazing. He's also great at helping you with writing during office hours. If you aren't going to be able to keep up with the readings or not good with literature in the first place, this will be the hardest class you will ever take. You really need to go to lectures to fully understand what you read for the week. Final and midterm are completely on readings and vocab given during lectures.

Professor Moran cares about his students and you can tell. The classes can be a little boring if it's just him lecturing, but the topics are pretty interesting.

I Love love love Dr. Moran. I had him two quarters in a row. He definitely expects a lot out of you and the homework/readings are challenging (mainly because there is so much of it), so don't take his class if you're going to be lazy. He doesn't take a break, but he's such a sweet person. I'd definitely take him again.

Honestly one of the best English professors out there. Readings can get a little tough but it's doable. A couple of essays but on interesting topics. He is hilarious and kind. His class was never boring, very interesting. Show up to class every day and participate to get a good grade.

I didn't know what to expect in this class, but the readings and discussions are awesome. You really learn a lot about race and ethnicity and Professor Moran goes out of his way for the students. I totally love this class and highly recommend him. All the readings are online for free. You write three exam essays for the semester at home. Not hard.

Is very descriptive of all the assignments also give positive and descriptive feedback on work, grading is very well explained, no extra credit. Dr. Moran's film class was one of the best courses I've ever taken at CSUSB. You learn a lot about the filmmaking process, adaptation, and the connections between literature and film. If you ever get a chance to take this professor, don't hesitate. He's awesome and you will appreciate film in a completely new way.

Awesome professor! All of the readings were great and I enjoyed how we discussed them in class. 2 midterms and a final. Unless you don't read or slack off, you'll do fine. You read American history/literary periods from 1850 to today. He does reviews before exams and is so helpful outside of class. A really cool and caring person. Total respect!

Chill professor. Dope class. You read literature from different countries. Gives crazy details of each country. This guy's knowledge is impressive. Included films that made me enjoy the class more. Reading and writing is up there but not too heavy. I'm not an English major but Prof. Moran made me think about it. For a minute. Ha ha. Fave class.

Online class. Two midterms and one final. 5 pages each. Weekly discussion board on readings. Readings are short stories, poems and 3 novels. One section on an art and film. All minority American writers. Professor emails back quickly. Overall the class was easy to follow and grading was fair. Topics were cool. I would take this professor again.

I've taken 4 classes with Dr. Moran since 2017 (American Lit, Lit Theory, Film and Lit, and Ethics and Lit). All were incredible. He has been the most important professor in my college experience, and I feel prepared for graduate school because of him. Thank you Dr. Moran for your wisdom, your "high bar," your encouragement and your kindness.

Just wrapped up this class. Prof. Moran is one of the most chill professors. I really appreciate all of the feedback he gave me on my papers, and you can tell this guy is totally into his teaching. He never missed a class, always had a positive attitude and always was willing to help if you had questions. All of the positive reviews are spot on.

I was not anticipating this class because it was at 7:30 in the morning. I couldn't have made a better decision. The one book we had to buy was cheap and the other readings were online. I never felt lost like in some other classes. Prof. is great and he can also be funny which helped.

Class divided up half play and half poetry. Lots of reading but only three papers and a poetry portfolio. He does group work and workshops and we shared our poems. We also wrote a scene for a play. Overall, I liked how interactive and open the class was. Professor is super nice and the conversations we had in class were great. No complaints.

This was a lit and film class on Nathanael West. Dr. Moran is obsessed with this writer and shared a trove of information that made me appreciate him and 1930s film in a whole new way. Loved the Film Museum experience! Overall I learned a lot about film, satire, and you can't help but admire West after this class. New favorite author and Professor!

Best online class I've taken so far. Everything was easy to understand and the readings were pretty cool. Instructor responds to emails quickly. He seems to care that students do well.

I knew Lit Theory Readings were going to be demanding but some of it was insane. No way I could have passed the class without Professor's help. Met with me through Zoom to explain things and he's a great teacher. Uses examples that help you make connections and cares that you get it. Moran is G.O.A.T in my book!

Graduating senior (woohoo!). Third time taking Professor Moran. Class focused on American Satire: novels, short stories, poems, and about 7 films. Definitely one of my favorite professors at CSUSB!

Best course ever! First part short stories, second part novels. Two short stories per class, 2 weeks for each novel (three for Willa Cather). Loved all the readings! Awesome discussions. I learned so much and Professor connects everything to real life (our last NF novel was on Covid). Only 3 research papers overall. Grades fair. Highly recommend!

Last semester at CSUSB. Professor Moran is one of the coolest professors I've had. The readings take some time to get through but his lectures and feedback helped me out a lot. If you have to take Lit Theory I definitely recommend taking him.

This review is for Professor Moran's American Literature course. Took this class as a requirement. Ended up loving it. Professor Moran is awesome. He was very supportive when I needed help or had questions. A good amount of reading but workload is manageable. Enjoyed every single lecture and reading. I already signed up for one of his fall classes.

Dr. Moran is a gem. Professors like himself are the reason that universities exist. Take his classes and learn the subject matters he teaches well in a comfortable and cultured manner.

He's a firm grader but gives more than ample time to collaborate with him before things are due. Participate in class! He's a wealth of knowledge, and very nice to collaborate with. He is also VERY accessible outside of class, and will meet you where you need within his ability. Also provides an incredible amount of variety so classes are fast!

Professor Moran is a great professor. He gives clear and concise grading outlines and grades to a T. Midterm and final comprise most of your points so it is imperative you understand the prompt and deliver a good paper. No extra credit, but you have from Sunday to Sunday to complete all work for the week. Really awesome professor!

This class involves a lot of reading and class discussions in order to break down the readings. Discussions can be great when people actually participate. From my experience I would say the class wasn't hard for a level 3000, there's three essays and few in class assignments. He sometimes offers extra credit as well.

Lectures had readings with discussions questions for them which are not hard at all. Had 3 papers total, first 2 with 5 pages and final with 7 pages. Not really a tough grader from my perspective. As long as you do the discussion posts and do well on the papers, you'll be fine.

Best Professor I've taken at CSUSB. Period.
