he blew my mind every week with new concepts. his jokes were just hilarious. the final is a lot of work.
great class. very very very funny. i learned so much its amazing.
He is AWSOME! makes everything clear and easy to understand. easy too. and hes really funny.
Fantastic class, great professor, fun and interesting, eye-opening to Muslims and non-Muslims alike. It is important for you to know that regardless of anything, if you do a good job on the take-home final, you're guaranteed an A in the class.
It's the best class I've ever taken at this school.
it was such a fulfilling class that i can't believe it. he challenges you on every point and inspires you to learn more and to want to learn more and he's the best teacher ive ever had.
Amazing, awesome, spectacular! He keeps you engaged in all class discussions. A lot of reading. You don't really need to do it all, because he gives a take home final at the end. He also assigns weekly blogs. This class was amazing. Best class ever!
The best teacher ever! The classes are very easy and you must be very stupid to not get an A from that class.
He pretty much personifies the word "baller." If a ball could have human characteristics, then Omer would be it. He's crystal clear, hilarious, entertaining, intelligent and has a deep well of knowledge that just impresses anyone who thinks he's just a glorified stand up comic. He's a smart man with a plan, man. Dude's got a plan.
AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!THE BEST TEACHER EVER!!!!!!!!!DUDE U ROCK MA WORLD!!!!!!!!!!LOL.....AM TOTALLY SPEECHLESS...........
This was the best class of my college career. I wish I could take it each time he taught it. He is such a great personality and manages to teach you so much in just a semester. He makes the class be a "protected area" so anyone can present any opinions, just as long as they remain polite. I looked forward to this class every week.
i agree with the other comments. his introduction to quran was my best class ever but his revival and reform in islam was even better! he knows his stuff completely. he is very helpful. he is very funny. he is a presence in the classroom.
Professor is very interesting and his classes are almost never boring, very passionate about what he teaches. Overall the class was good, but be prepared to write long boring essays on tons of readings.
very good teacher. tons of extra credit. and helps if needed. only night class that was fun to go to ever. muslim or non you are treated the same way.
The final was really hard. The quizzes were really hard. It turned out to be my favorite class maybe ever.
Love him!!!
You cannot graduate Loyola without taking this prof. He is AWESOME! Discussions are so interesting, fun, and very intellectual. Assigns a ton of reading but seems like he knows people aren't gonna do most of it. Final was a bunch of mini essays that aren't too bad. If you participate in this class he will love you. Best night class ever. TAKE HIM!!
He is an amazing professor. His lectures are never boring and always engaging. Papers were a summary of the reading and reflction and he always responded with a question that you could answer in a follow up paper for extra credit. He changed the syllabus a lot but it was usually to take stuff off. He is great!
Learned more in this course than in almost all other courses. Incredibly well organized. Adjusts course to meet student needs and interests. Knows how to mix lecture and discussion exceptionally well. I was never in a class that was so active. Almost everybody participated and he didn't even have to make us. Calls himself an "Old School" teacher.
As you can see from my ratings, I enjoyed this class. But why don't we take a minute to reevaluate what makes somebody a "good professor." Almost everyone agrees that these classes are easy, that you don't have to read. Is it just me or do we all learn more from classes where we actually have to apply ourselves? Just a thought for you Omer.
Prof. Mozzaffar is the best of all time. If there are any bad comments then they are just people who would rather have a hard teacher. Easy, you will learn, and very interesting. Essays only and acting in literature class. I would take again.
easy professor. No tests just quizzes and essays. Quizzes are simple just read a little or listen to his lectures. An easy A/B+. Interesting discussions. I would take him again. If you want the A. Just put in a little effort.
Amazing teacher. So funny! Have this really strange crush on him!
Just easy
Brilliant class and professor. You must take this class no matter what your major is. I never expected that I would love a class so much. I learned so much about religion and myself.
Got me interested in class. Lots of writing, and fun presentations in class. I recommend everyone to take him, you will not be disappointed
Best.Class.Ever.
Best class I took at Loyola.
He was hilarious and really engaged his students in philosophical discussions about religion. It got you thinking outside the box. He's also one of the nicest professors at Loyola. I'd suggest that anyone who needs a CORE class should take his.
Took intro to islam in summer session and had 40 people in class. So many students in a short class plus many writing assignments led to not knowing your grades and papers not being returned in a timely manner. Teacher was great and personable but should have changed the format for summer.
Best professor for a theo class. He is the funnest guy to be teaching a Islam class. You have to read a lot of easy stuff and do like 2-3 papers. All of his classes are easy to follow if you put a little bit of interest in the class. Funny jokes, really easy to talk to, and most of the time lets us mess around. Take this class if you need theo.
do the minimum and you get an a. and his jokes are amazing
Very minimal reading. For the papers just write the required length and will receive full credit. Easy teacher, and you will have fun going to class each week. Easy A, TAKE HIM!
There is a lot of work in this class but it's the best class I ever had. He knows how to teach.
Really cool guy easy to talk to loves to crack jokes we watched a lot of movies which made a night class easier to stomach really good lectures weekly blog posts syllabus is way off don't need any of the books except for the Qur'an translation 1 paper and quiz final was two very open ended questions one of the best professors at Loyola take him!
He was a nice guy, and he was pretty helpful in any questions that were posed. He took a while to grade anything and sometimes some explanations were drawn out.
Have only had two classes so far, but he is an awesome professor! He explains things very clearly, and doesn't assume you have any sort of religious background coming into the class (he starts off with the basics.) Awesome teaching style! Take him!
Omer made his class a lot harder from previous semesters. There are quizzes, mandatory participation, (3) three pg papers, and a 10 pg final paper. The material is not hard but a lot of busy work.
Mozaffer is really nice and funny but he made his class really hard. There was a 10 pg final, (3) 3 pg papers, and 2 quizzes. You sort of had to read for the quizzes but if you know nothing about Islam, your gonna have to read. It's a fun class but you'll hate it when your up all night writing a paper that is busy work.
Most profound class I've ever had.
Mozaffar is by far one of my favorite professors because he doesn't treat this class like an academic class. He wants his students get more more of a real world understand of the religion. I came into the class without much of a background and I'm leaving with a reasonable understanding. Not much work either. Weekly blogs, two papers, 12 page final
Professor Mozaffar is a phenomenal professor! I absolutely love him and the way he lectures. Although he is respected by students and has a very fun personality, his papers are pretty tough.
Professor Mozaffar's classes are really funny and enlightening. However, he is unclear in his grading, and puts a lot of emphasis on participation. The class itself is enjoyable, but the grading and papers can be frustrating.
FANTASTIC teacher. He presents what you might expect to be dry, boring material and actually gets you to think about it. He applies it to things you wouldn't expect and I left most classes thinking in depth. He could make paint drying something interesting. Now who on earth rated him in hotness!? *Shudder*
Professor Mozaffar is by far the easiest professor you'll take but don't get me wrong YOU DO HAVE TO PARTICIPATE which adds up to 30% of class grade. The Rest is weekly blogs, 4 essays, and a final all of which are very easy to write and he is a very lenient grader. I got an A- because I didn't participate first half of the semester.
Professor Mozaffar is incredibly well versed in Islam. His classes are interesting and informative. 4 papers throughout the semester, take home exam, and many extra credit opportunities. He likes strong participation in class. Easy A for sure if you do the work. Great guy, super interesting class.
His classes are super interesting. I kind of struggle following his notes on the board, but it is not bad. There are 4 essays, starting at 500 words and increasing for each assignment. I am not a great writer by any means, but i have received 100% on each paper so far. He also will read your paper over and make suggestions. TOTALLY RECOMMEND
This man is an inspiration. He says the most profound statements and I leave class everyday feeling empowered. weekly blog posts, do the 4ish papers, come to class, in class group work is mainly watching cool videos&analyze. he connects it to class material in really interesting ways. he gives good advice, this class is beyond amazing- enough said.
Professor Mozaffar is exceptional. His lectures are interesting and eye-opening. Easy class, just do online sakai blogs, and turn in decent papers and you will be good to go. Show up to class though and participate! But you will walk away a more cultured person.
Course was an amazing experience--I feel much more cultured/well-rounded as a result. Lectures were interesting/funny, and we spent about 1/3 of the semester watching and analyzing movies in class. Papers were somewhat long/difficult and weekly 300-word blog posts got annoying, but overall not too hard. Please choose him over an "easier" professor.
Mozaffar is a good proff. Class is straightforward enough. If you show up, do the weekly blog posts and talk to him during office hours about your paper (simply showing up will bump your grade) you can get an A. You watch awesome movies once a week, I recommend intro to islam with him as a theo 2 core class.
Such a good class. Four papers, each gets harder. He gives you all the assignments and final exam on the first day. I learned so much. Such a great teacher.
I am a first year student, and Mozaffar has made this year bearable. The class itself was just really fun and not the hardest thing with the way it was taught. I am beyond happy that I took this class and I'm proud to call this man my teacher and my friend.
The workload in this class is more than two of my other classes AND IT IS NOT WRITING INTENSIVE. It was my favorite class of the semester maybe of my college career. I learned so much about Islam the world and myself.
Mozo is the man! Arguably the best professor I've ever had. The class is a lot to handle, like four very long papers and an absurdly long final paper, but he's hysterical and makes it all worth it. I actually looked forward to going to this class every MoWeFr. He also assigns super long movies to watch, but I'm so glad I took him, he is a must take
Mozaffer is amazing. His papers are long, but trust me, it's not rocket science. He gives you the prompts for the four papers and the final all on the first day. We watch a movie every Friday too. Just be sure to show up to class on time and not skip a lot. If you're gonna miss, let him know. Just participate and he is great. Really funny too!
Very funny man, there a lot of papers that are graded on a curve so get ready to write, but class was very enjoyable. He's very knowledgeable and tells lots of stories to make it interesting. He also presents Islam from an academic point of view which is very interesting and different than how we learned about Islam in world religion classes.
One of the best teachers that I have had at Loyola. He makes the class enjoyable to come to especially his 9 am. Class is graded on 5 Papers (option to pick 4/5 he provides, and one tedious final paper lasting 20+ pages). Not a hard class if you follow his instructions. Participation counts as well as attendance which blows but go to class, its fun
He looks like Uncle Phil. He controls the room like Freddie Mercury. He grades like Thanos. He looks like Thanos too. Best class ever but you earn your grade.
Favorite class of my college career. Mozaffar packs in so much learning and jokes. The casual atmosphere is misleading. He's teaching even when you think the class is off track.
By far one of the best professors I've had, genuinely cares about his students and makes the class useful to Muslim and non-Muslim students. Attendance is mandatory, weekly blog posts, and participation is strongly encouraged. Four papers total for the semester, guidelines partly unclear, but overall easy, corrections allowed.
Professor Mozaffar is good but don't take this class if you don't want to take a writing extensive workload in a class that isn't labeled that. This class was actually more writing intensive than any of my other two actual writing intensive classes. I wrote the longest paper of my college career in this class, and this was my only non A.
Professor Mozzafar was okay. I really enjoyed reading the Quran and I appreciated his ability to get the class to engage. However, I didnt love his style of lecture and felt like even after multiple days of his lecture, I hadnt learned much. This issue with this is that it is important to know a lot about the texts you read for the tests.
His class had a standing ovation at the end of his set of lectures. He was the best Honors lecturer the entire year.
Professor Mozaffar is amazing! He is one of the best professors I have had. His class includes a lot of writing but he gives you all the assignments (even the final) at the start of the class so if you do a little bit a day and keep up with it then it is not that stressful. He is also always willing to meet with you to help with anything you need.
Mozaffar is one of the most trusted professors in the school. It is difficult to get into his class. IT IS WORTH IT. You learn so much about the subject. Mozaffar organizes the course to force introspection. The papers are hard. The final is the hardest final. You feel like you have learned and grown more than you expected.
Transformative. You will write more here than for three other classes combined. You should get started on the papers from the first day of the semester and the load will be light. He has very few assignments other than writing papers and blogs. Students who complain about the amount of writing forget there is very little reading.
Mozaffar is a great lecturer and fantastic at facilitating discussion and connecting with his students. I would highly recommend taking him for any class possible.
Mozaffar is great. Great lecturer, really nice and personable person in and out of class. There's a lot of writing to do, but it's not graded too intensely so long as you meet the assignment guidelines. Take notes! You'll need thorough notes for the final, and you can't make up missed lecture time.
Just keep up with your writing and schedule meetings with him IN ADVANCE. There's a lot of extra credit so take advantage of that so the class is lower-stress later on. He is very nice too: he granted extensions when I had needed it. Take notes in class (or at least sit and listen) so you can write in detail in the papers.
Good luck trying to register for this class. It fills up at the beginning of registration. This class is very thorough. I feel like I know Islam at a deep level. It's like a writing intensive class and engaged learning without being writing intensive or engaged learning. Start your papers early and take notes and you will have no stress.
Every class is full of profound ideas. When I visited him in office hours I started asking questions to get him rambling. That's more profound than class. He's very kind. His work is very demanding and the class is the first thing in the morning. One research paper 15-20 pages. A final 20-30 pages. Blogs totaling 15 pages. So good.
The class has a very relaxed and casual atmosphere and we get into a lot of great discussions. The final essay will be around 20 pages with certain writing rules. None of the essays are hard but you just have to start in advance. If you don't, then it is hard to cram and that's where a lot of people mess up
Mozaffar was great. 4 papers with no page requirement (mine were around 5-7 pages long), weekly blog posts, and a final paper with a few prompts to choose from. I have gotten an A on every paper by referring back to class material - which is why attendance is important. Just do your work, go to class and you will get an A.
My pookie bear.
Do your work in advance and the class is a breeze. Most thought provoking class at Loyola. He cares a lot about his students. Class fills at the beginning of registration and now I understand why.
Overall, he is a great professor especially if you like to learn. I came out of his class with immensely more knowledge than going into it. The class is four papers plus a final paper and weekly blogs, with options for extra credit. The papers have no minimum length requirement, just takes a lot of brainpower and reflection. Not bad at all
My Muslim friends say it's a rite of passage to take his class. It should be for every student. Best course. I agree with the person who said to visit him in office hours.
OK so I know Mozaffer doesn't need another 5 star review but he deserves one. This class was the brightest spot in my semester, and I attribute all of that to Prof. Mozaffer. He truly cares about his students and shows it, by hosting office hours at nearly every hour of the day. He claims he's a tough grader but by w7 you know he's a big softie :)
Make sure you do the blogs and talk in class. His papers require a lot of work but he posts them all on the first day. If you pace yourself you will get an A. There are no surprises. This class was the best of my college years. I'm glad I finally got in before graduating. I am a night person and did not want to miss a second of his 8:15 am class.
Professor Mozaffar is probably one of my favorite professors I have ever had. He has amazing lectures, and his class is a very open, safe space to discuss thoughts and opinions. He is very knowledgeable, and I learned a great deal in this class. Work consists of weekly blogs due every Sunday w/easy prompts, decently easy papers, and easy pop quiz.
Professor Mozaffar is the best teacher I have had. I knew nothing about the Sufis and this is the most deep thought provoking class. This class was well-organized. He's very funny. All of us seemed to love him. This class was writing intensive. He will make you a better writer.
My father figure. Baba. Papa. Dedi. Dad. If you're looking to adopt a father, take his class. Oh, I guess he's a good professor too.
Prof. Mozaffar is a great professor. I took his Theo 295 class not knowing I would write 55 pages in his class. His essays are easy, but be prepared to work on 5-7 page papers every week and a 30+ page Final for months. He has many extra credit opportunities so you won't fail. I highly recommend him!
I know this is early but only 4 weeks into the class I understand and agree with why everybody loves him.
He made learning about the Qur'an fun.
best professor at loyola, literally impossible to fail class, but he makes going to class fun! take his class even if u dont need a theo credit! you wont ever regret it! YOU WILL LOVE THIS CLASS!
Brown Miss. Frizzle! No prior knowledge is needed about the topic, in his words "it won't help you here". You really just need to show up and engage with him. This felt like a really fun class I'd take in high school-- I know the names of all my classmates, and we all banter with him! He's pretty clear with grading, not specific with feedback.
First I thought he would try to convert us. Instead, he kept emphasizing that the class is Literary. He challenged us on all our beliefs and my non beliefs. In today's class I started arguing one way. By the end of the lecture I argued the other way. All he did was ask questions. Mind. Blown. Each. Class. Now I want him to pick apart all my views.
literally the goat.
Cons - Not much feedback on papers. Class is at 815am. Pro/Con - Giant papers but you learn a lot from writing his papers. Quiz in every class but they are easy. Pros - Best class of my life.
Professor Mozaffar is an amazing professor, with such extensive knowledge on the Quran. I already had high expectations going into this class, and I am not surprised that this class has exceeded my expectations on a big scale. Just know, Mozo has A LOT of aura and you will absolutely gain aura by taking this class.
BEST PROFESSOR AT LOYOLA! TAKE HIM! SO FUNNY! LITERALLY EASIEST CLASS EVER! WORTH WAKING UP EARLY!
