Etheophian so he has a heavy old english accent but take home quizzes/tests and he teaches everything under the assumption that you know nothing. Quite helpful for catching everyone up and making sure everyone knows what is going on.
Many take home quizs and test. Excellent teacher if you dont skip class, and if you do he can get a little mad.
he's a jerk, and i advise you not to take him unless you are very desperate.
He is very helpful! He explains everything very clear. There are no suprises on the test
I do not recommend Dr. Yayenie to ANYONE unless you are a math genius and already know all the material. He goes way to fast and assumes you know everything and if you dont know he makes you feel stupid.
HATED HIM. Made me feel stupid. Dont think you can ask a question in his class because he will bite your head off. AND DONT forget you book.
he is the meanest teacher i've ever had. he makes everyone feel stupid, and he's ****. he thinks everyone knows as much math as he does, so when someone asks a question, he acts like he shouldn't help them b/c they're lazy and stupid. don't take him or you'll be miserable!!
His class is easy if you do the practice exams before the test. He can be an ass at times but usually for a reason. (being late/missin class)
He is cool! He cares about all his students. His exams are very similar to the sample exams.
He is the most organized prof I have ever seen. Never scatterbrained.
He is a wonderful teacher. He does move a little fast, but if you know the material, you should definatly take him! He's GREAT!
Dr. Yayenie is not a bad teacher but if someone else is open I recommend that you take them. In the beginning of the semester he moves very fast and its hard to understand him because of his accent. He can be helpful but he is really quick to bite your head off. He is not as bad as some of these
i enjoy math, but i dropped this class b/c he is an ass. do not miss class if you have him. you will not enjoy his class. he goes very slow and explains things to the point of confusion. you won't make a bad grade necessarily, but i'd take someone else!
He really loves Math. He wears math shirts everyday, so that is pretty awesome. But he is very strict with attendence and he has an accent. If you do the homework and practice tests, you can get an easy A!
He can be mad at you if you have the tendency of missing more than three classes. Otherwise, he is very helpful, organized, intelligent, and knows the subject he is teaching very well. His exams are more or less the same as the sample exams he provides a week before the exam. I recommend everybody to take him provided that you will not miss classes
Dr. Yayenie is THE best math teacher I have ever had. He's extremely nice but is quick to snap at students who are rude and disrespectful. He always has time for his students and gives review sessions. It is rare to find teachers like him who actually love what they do and love their students. Highly recommended!!!

i hated this class...im so good at math i love it. but he was such a jerk to me for no reason at all. Even the rest of the slass asked me several times why he didnt like me. he was rude to me infront of the entire class...DONT TAKE HIM!
Strict, but highly recommended
Extremely fair professor. Hate his attendance policy.
Best math teacher ever!!! Truly wants his students to succeed. He demands respect but also gives respect. I'm taking him again next semester.
Serious Pofessor. I'm taking his MAT140 class next semester.
He was an OK teacher, but would reccommend someone else if you're not looking for a challenge. He definitely does homework, too...
I would not advise anyone to take him.
I like the way he did proofs in class. Be aware that he is strict in his attendance policy and he collects hw at the beginning of class. But, he is extremely helpful and holds review sessions outside his class time.
I had calc in high school so I knew how to do everything he was teaching. I was lucky though, because he doesn't know how to explain stuff. He would ask us questions and then straight up tell us we were wrong. He's very rude and takes attendence every single day. Don't take him!!
He doesnt really explain the material he is teaching well. He skip steps when working math problems and makes you wonder how he get from point A to B. I do not recommend you take him
for some reason didn't like me from the start. He speaks broken english and is hard to understand
TERRIBLE,IN EVERYWAY, STRICT ABSENSE POLICY,(gives 20 hw points for perfect attendance though at the end) he kicks people out, he assigned hw the week before finals! He rushes chapters.Get this: We had a chapter 3 test the same day we turned in chapter 4 hw.It made NO SENSE what so ever.No review for the final, instead we had hw. WOA: DONT TAKE him
Very strict, but extremely helpful. He cares about his students success in the course. Hate his attendance policy.
TERRIBLE!!!!
DON'T TAKE!!!!!! He rushes through the lecture, unable to make any sense of what he says because of the thick accent. He also has this Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde thing going on. You never knew which one you were going to get. I emailed him several times with questions and would never recieve and answer. Also don't leave in the middle of class!!
Dr. Yeyeni is a nice person and willing to work with you. I ask questions all the time in class and he doesn't make me feel stupid. I am not good at math or taking tests so the class is challenging for me. Right now I'm actually failing his class, but I don't blame him. You must come to class. Expect homework every class. Quizes all the time. TRUTH
Except his attendance policy, I like his teaching style and helpfulness.
Most helpful teacher ever. He really, really cares whether you learn or not. I personally thought he was awesome!
Goes through material way to fast an doesn't explain very well...wasn't reaL
Best Professor ever. All lecture notes are on Blackboard in pdf format. He also gives review problems for his tests. He has a heavy accent. Overall, Excellent!
His class is very hard. He is hard to understand and rushes through things. He is a nice guy but DO NOT take his class. You have to go to every class and he grades really hard. Homework is due everyday and he grades it for correctness.
A little hard and serious, but fair guy. Attendance is a must and he gives a lot of assignments.
This class was amazing.
Dr. Yayenie is a terrble math professor. He is never in his office when he's supposed to be and his lectures are just him reading the slides to you. His lectures are pointless to attend but you have to because of attendance. Only reason anyone takes him is because there is usually one section and he teaches it. Avoid him if possible.
Very hard to understand. Homework due on the weekends. Doesn't speak good english. Speed talks through every chapter. I'm doing homework that I have to consult youtube for because I have absolutely zero clue how to do it. My notes don't help. He goes so fast I can't understand him. If you like unfair, hard-to-understand classes, pick him.
Terrible teacher unless you like learning math in a different language. I couldnt understand him at all with his thick accent. On the first test, I got a 77% and was kind of dissappointed until I heared that the class average was 67% and there were multiple grades in the 30% range. You have homework everyday and you have to attend class everyday
He is very helpful if you are ever struggling in class. His attendance policy is the same as the standard university's. His tests and quizzes are the exact same thing as in the lectures. Very great Professor!
I was concerned the first day because of his accent, but.... If you paid attention he was actually fairly easy to understand. He explains everything COMPLETELY. He was one of the most helpful teachers I had. He expects students to show up for class, be respectful, pay attention and do hw but he absolutely wants all of his students to succeed.
DO NOT TAKE HIM. I've had hard classes before, but he is just unreasonably unfair. Assignments were given on Sunday and due Monday morning(not our regular class time). His tests took 4~ hours so instead of shortening them he extended our class time and moved them to days we didn't have class. He told a student to shut up when they asked a question.
worst teacher ever. thick accent, reads from slides never explain, Tests hard and you'll never get 60% of the test done by time , hws assigned sometimes a day before its due, he told one of my classmates don't speak basically "SHUT up", dont ever ask for a take home exam you will need days to solve it and he gives you hours. so one word "RUN"
Despite what everyone on here says, Dr. Yayenie is a wonderful person and instructor. He teaches straight from the book and you have to put forth effort to get the grade you want, but if you ever need help he is more than willing to help you.
Avoid at all cost. I have spent over 42 hours working on homework for this class to have a "b" in it. He is rude, unhelpful, and pretentious. You won't be able to get his tests done in the time allowed and when confronted about it he has an "Oh Well" attitude. Not willing to help students and going to his office is pointless.
I took his MAT117 class and I wish I hadn't. His teaching style is hard to follow and he doesn't know how to explain things. If you have a question do not expect a clear answer. He has the habit of talking down to students. However, if you are good at math, then you can easily breeze through the class.
He's cool but I definitely recommend another teacher. Maybe it was just me but I have an extremely difficult time grasping concepts.
Dr. Yayenie is a professor that I love/hate at the same time. I don't enjoy his lectures because he tends to go too fast. However, if you speak to him in his office, he makes content much more understandable. He also drops a test if you have near perfect attendance. Yayenie really wants you to succeed but you have to show that you want to as well.
I had Dr. Y for MAT150, nice guy but tests are very unorganized, it's possible he will put 3 different chapters on the same test. I don't think he was very good at explaining anything but I'm also not great at math. Will be retaking with a new professor.
Wonderful teacher! Cares about your learning. Accent is a little thick.
I had Dr. Yayenie two semesters in a row, and loved him for both classes. Yes, he does have an accent, but once you get used to it, it won't be a big deal. He is very good at explaining things, just be sure to pay attention and don't have you cell phone out in class.
English is not this professor's first language and you can tell. There were times where I had a very hard time understanding what he was trying to say. Dr. Yayenie will at times skip steps whenever solving examples for the class and he gives test reviews that are not reflective of information that was covered in class or that will be on the test.
Yayenie is foreign so his accent may be offputting to some but I found him easy to understand. His homework is a reasonable amount and his style of teaching is extremely direct and simple. Hes also a very nice guy and wants to see you do well. He works with his students alot and always prepared me for the exam.
Dr. Y is a really cool guy. he has a strong african accent but he really knows his stuff. With a little background of calculus you should be good in this class. I took AP cal in HS & got a 1 on the AP test. i did surprisingly decent in this class. Getting good grades on homework is crucial.
Hes very passionate about what he teaches. At first when I heard his accent I literally wanted to drop the class bc I couldnt understand what he says. But Im so glad I didnt. Hes by far one of the best math teacher ever! I had an A all semester but got a B because of the final. Hes a great teacher. Just attend class and do my math lab hmk.
Dr. Y is just not that good of a lecturer. He tends to go too fast. But if you take the time outside of class to study on your own and see him during office hours, you should be fine. My recommendation would be to do the review problems at the end of the chapter before each test in addition to the review material he gives.
Do the homework, pay attention to lectures, easy A.
Dr. Y uses lectures and lots of examples though make sure you get to class a few minutes before time because he starts early. If you come to class and do your work you won't have any problems with him. He does have an accent but it is easy to understand.
kinda sucky professor, nice guy but awful at teaching. Constantly makes you feel bad if you dont understand something and can make you feel stupid in seconds
Dropped his class on the first day. Has a non-negotiable bathroom/electronics policy. Told us if we left class to use the bathroom or he saw us on phone/laptop we would be counted absent. I understand wanting your students to pay attention but half the material was on the computer anyways. 1% final grade drop for every unexcused absence after 5.
Knows what he teaches. Beware of his accent, wasn't hard for me but for some, it might be. Very organized, gave us printed notes of his lectures and went into detail with every chapter. You need to study and go to tutoring the minute you need help because he moves fast. Don't be late, he'll mark you absent and after 4, deducts your grade
I actually had him in STA135. Worst professor i have ever had. No electronic policy, no bathroom policy, very thick accent, and smart remarks. Very passive aggressive for no reason. I asked to take a exam at a later date due to me being out of town, he refused and had no remorse at all. DO NOT TAKE
This teacher has no idea how to communicate or teach. I do not understand why someone who can barley speak english is teaching an online class. ALL WE CAN DO IS LISTEN TO VIDEOS how does that work can understand what hes saying how are we supposed to be able to learn from videos. Omer I hope you see this you are an awful professor. FIRE HIM NOW!!!!
Best math teacher I have ever had. If you do the work and pay attention in class, he should be a breeze. He really cares about the class but if you don't show effort then you won't get the grade you want. He gives plenty of examples in class to make sure you really understand the concepts, and doesn't mind explaining things twice. Amazing professor
I mean this in the nicest way possible. Why would you hire someone to teach an online class when you cant even understand him? I am currently trying to watch his videos he posted to study and it all sounds like gibberish. At the very least you should at least give guided notes if nobody can be guided by the lecture because they cannot understand u
This has actually been the hardest class I have takin in my life. I am sitting here stressing about every test with no material to study but videos I cannot understand because of his accent.
I find it very foul that I payed money to take this class over the summer to try to get ahead and my money is going to waste because the professor cant teach or speak. I want a refund this is not my fault that all I have to study is videos I do not understand. Not to mention he lies about what is going to be on the exams.
Cannot understand anything he says. He also lies about what will be on the exams. I also find it very weird that the hw is due days after the exam. How is that supposed to make sense? IT DOESN'T! I am furious that I have to deal with this 100% do not take this professor you will regret it I promise.
Currently trying to study for the final exam with only hw to study. On canvas he has it broken up into sections but tells us to study certain chapters like we know which sections are which chapters. This is a very poorly taught class I don't recommend for anyone. At the very least give us material to study. Having us study pearson is extremely lazy
English isn't his first language and he has a very hard to understand accent. He also counts you absent if you leave to go to the bathroom and said that if you have to go that badly you shouldn't bother coming back. He doesn't allow you to so much as look at your phone or watch during class but the textbook and homework is all online.
Really nice dude, just very specific on absences for instance, if you go to the restroom during class with you will be marked tardy for the day. Hard class as a student athlete.
If you get pas not being allowed to use the bathroom/technology, hes a great professor; truly wants students to pay attention w/ no distractions. Gives many examples. Tries to be sure students understand everything. Accent isnt as bad as past ratings say (way better than some chem profs). Never answered my emails though. Need to study to do well.
His accent isnt hard to understand, his voice is just monotone, and he sometimes doesnt answer emails. Assigns lots of homework (not hard just lots). Attendance mandatory, but the content is not hard. Tests on paper but homework online. If you can sit through a boring lecture and do boring but easy math homework then you will do fine in this class.
Lectures are boring and monotone, but he is easy to understand. Hard to reach outside of class. LOTS OF HOMEWORK. Tests are hard but not ridiculous, considering his subject is math it's understandable. If you are someone who can listen well and do your work on time, this class won't kill you. Tests on paper, grades on paper, homework online.
350 characters is not nearly enough to express my issue with this class. I spent all semester earning an A but because I have test anxiety and work full time and the final was held when i usually sleep for work I ended up with a B because the weight of the final was somehow more important than the understanding I spent all semester demonstrating.
