She is just very, very rude. If you ask her a question, expect for her to make you feel dumb. A student that did research with her asked for a letter of recommendation and she said "I don't know you like that". Another person emailed her saying "hey" to which Dr. Brown replied "do not say hey to me". very unpleasant.
Dr. Brown is not coherent in her teaching, grading or expectations. Her rubrics were poorly formatted, and if you asked her about them she would get an attitude. She is quite defensive. A peer did a research project and backed it up with credible evidence. She didn't like the evidence it so she failed the project, though it was reputable.
even if your answer is correct, its wrong if it isn't the answer she is looking for; but she doesn't specifically put in the question to "be sure to discussed or include etc in your answer" but she expect the students to know what she is looking for. Students complained of this, and she blamed us of not studying enough. Very snappy attitude
Her test are all essay questions and you only have 50 minutes in the class to take exams. Plus she told us at the beginning of class there wasn't going to be a final. Then, we find out half way through that there is a final, and she didn't post a syllabus until the middle of the semester, so we had no idea what to expect next unless she told us.
When you go to ask her a question about one of her tests (which are absolutely ridiculous you have to write exactly what is on her slides, almost every single question) she gets really defensive, as if you are attacking her or something just for asking about your test. She argues with you about anything. Don't recommend.
Dr. Brown is new to teaching 3 credit hour classes. Her first semester was rough because I think it was a transition period. Honestly I think she has done a lot better this semester. She was a lot nicer and more understanding.
Worst teacher. Very rude. Never respond emails and think she is the smartest in the world and others are dumb. When you go her office to look exams she will treat you like stupid and never explain.
She has a very bad attitude and has a strong accent. I heard from all the students that nutrition faculty are good teachers. I dont agree that after sitting in her class. Bad, very bad teacher. Planning to switch or drop this class. Dont take her.
NEVER answers emails. Thinks she knows everything. Power points are not very organized and sometimes hard to follow. Talks super fast and makes following along in class hard. It is hard to go back and study notes for her class because they are not in a clear order. I will never take another one of her classes.
Never ever take her again for any class. She dont know the subject and just read the slides. Never respond emails and treat the students very bad. She has a bad attitude. Not clear instructions were given. Dont waste your time.
There are no good things I have to say about this professor. The tests are super specific and do not reflect learned in class material. She is super arrogant and not understanding or helpful to students. Would never ever take a class taught by her again.
do NOT take her. I took this class thinking it would be fairly easy and interesting but boy was i wrong. I even went to the student review sessions but they couldnt even help us because our professor teaching methods suck
She reads directly from her lecture slides and does not do much more. She is not flexible with her office hours and her lectures are boring. The tests in the class are hard no matter how much you study, and she does not prepare you for the tests at all. I would not recommend taking her.
Dr. Brown does not care about success of her students! Her lectures and slides are not clear. Tests are very hard no matter how much you study and when I went into her office hours she was annoyed with me and vague with answering questions. She acts like all her students are nutrition majors, but nutrition 2000 is a human sciences core.
Dr. Brown has a bad attitude and tends to act like her students are beneath her. She gets an attitude when questions are asked to her, she runs out of tests, she does not answer emails, she has a very limited window for office hours. Take a different professor. I wish I had dropped her when I had the chance.
He class makes absolutely no sense. Ive always hated anything science but I have always been a straight A student. I hated the class and the teacher. no matter how many times you study the slides the test makes no sense. Seriously drop her
The tests average never were above a D. This is an introductory class and she makes it as hard as can be. She is not nice and always seems not excited to be in class. I do not recommend her. She does give a ton of extra credit though, so attending class is mandatory if you want a decent grade.
Single handily the reason for my gpa dropping for the first time in 2 years. DO NOT TAKE, she does not give accurate information from the book, said in class that 90% of the body weight is water. Manages to put everything on the slides that we doesnt provide enough details to answer the questions on the tests. Impossible to pay attention to.
Worst. Class. Ever. She makes no sense most of the time and her slides are just subtitles from the textbook with no substance. Have to read the whole textbook to get any understanding of the material. However it still doesn't really matter for the exam bc her questions are super detail oriented and she does nothing to prepare you. Cumulative final.
Dr. Brown is not a bad person by any means but she is not the best professor. Her lectures are very boring and she reads right off the slides she projects in class. Her tests are absolutely impossible and go way more in depth than her lectures ever do. Take her section as an absolute last resort.
I really enjoyed her class. She's an amazing person and is really understanding. I had personal issues outside of school and she worked with me to help me stay caught up. Take time to go to her office hours, those will help a lot. Also, email her if you have questions. This class isn't easy, but you can get an A.
I like Professor Brown as a person, but not as a professor. She is extremely intelligent and has good intentions, but her class is way too difficult. The tests are extremely hard to pass, the averages were in the 60 range for each exam. I ended up with an A in the class but only because of the numerous extra credit opportunities and test curves.
Absolute worst teacher I have ever had. As a nutrition major, I was required to take this class and didn't expect it to be bad bc it was only a 1 hour course. She yelled at people for asking questions and tormented us with the way she had us do our speeches. Not to mention the class was only offered at 4pm. I hope I never have to take her again.
She is a good person, but her class is so boring. I will never take her class again.
If this class wasn't as difficult as it was, I would actually take her again. The class content is strictly memorization based and she reads STRAIGHT from the power point (meaning no explanation unless you ask for clarification) and the power point comes STRAIGHT from the book. Her class would be much better with a different teaching method. 6/10
her tests are super hard and you have so much to read its hard to study. you never know what will be on the test so u have to try and study 3 chapters of material. lectures are boring and do not hold my attention
Dr. Brown is okay. She cares about her students but tends to just read the textbook when it comes to lectures. Her tests are very specific and difficult. It's not a terrible class but I would avoid her as a professor if possible.
Mandatory class attendance, even in the age of COVID. Get ready for lots of group discussions and projects, even though they accomplish nothing educationally. Asks test questions that are opinion-based, so if she disagrees with you or flat out doesnt like you then youre going to be incorrect. Very unprofessional and by far the worst NTRI prof.
Avoid her like the plague... Very illogical person. Pretty much only 2 grades the whole semester (one of them is an elevator speech that you have to have memorized for 4 months, and you never know when you will present it). Neither of our main grades seem to have anything to do with NTRI. Some of the guest speakers are informative though
Nutrition is a really hard subject especially when it is not your major. Some of the topics interesting; however, her lectures were boring. She is a straight forward teacher and read the slides. She gives hints to what will be on the test if you listen to her lectures. She is really nice and wants the best for her students & helpful with questions.
This is one of the hardest courses I have taken, simply because the tests are nothing like what she lectures, what is on the slides or in the book. I study in advance and go over every possible material and still make C/D on every test. She also treats her students as numbers and has no sympathy for mistakes or submission errors.
Her class is 100% Scantron based tests. I tried to go to her for help but she was pretty rude to me and was not very easy to reach. I emailed her many times (she replied days later) and studied very hard for her tests but still didn't do as well as I wanted and she didn't seem to care at all. Do not take her class
Exams are literally impossible. Lectures way too fast, reads slides, and says "facts" that are literally untrue. Not sure if its just stage freight due to large class. The book work is super easy and saves your grade. Wouldn't recommend. I started skipping about half way through the semester since I couldn't keep up with the notes anyways.
Prepare to learn the material on your own. She reads off of the slides and doesnt explain things well and the exams are so difficult because she wants you to pick the best answer. But even if you dont do well you can still pass. I got below a 70 on all the exams and still passed with a B because she offers so many quizzes.
Dr. Brown is the most insensitive and uncaring professor I've ever had. Nutrition students have no option but taking her at least 3 times during their time at Auburn. She does not care about students and does not know what she is teaching. Makes up exams from thin air and uses slang wording. Way too much work for a one or two hour class
Have witnessed her yell at people in class, do not feel cared for as a student, and do not find most of our projects or homework helpful in furthering my education.
Dr. Brown was the worst experience I had freshman year here at Auburn. Her lectures are boring and complex for the class to be so simple. She wants to see you fail. Don't even dare ask her for help or she will laugh in your face and tell you to work harder. It's so obvious she hates her job and would rather be anywhere else. AVOID HER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Dr. Brown does not know what she is teaching. She repeats lessons but changes what she means each time. If you ask her questions, she will tell you a different answer each time. She incorrectly grades her exams. She makes you feel stupid and not confident in your work. She is overall not a very nice person, and she doesn't know what she's teaching.
Worst Professor I've had. From day one she puts you in groups and you work on one project the entire semester. She requires groups to complete worksheets that are more confusing than helpful. I feel like I didn't learn anything, she says the tests are applicable but it's just memorization and she's a tough grader. Good luck, you're gonna need it.
She's rude, stubborn, heartless, and has admitted that she doesn't even like teaching. She always says her favorite job was Pizza Hut and she has no appreciation for Nutrition. It's unfortunate that all Nutrition majors don't have another option because if someone else taught this, it could've been a really fun class. Nobody likes her, so good luck
Prof Brown only showed up twice this semester (not that I wanted to see her) but was unclear when we were meeting in class or online. The least she could do was provide a schedule so we could be prepared. There's a speaker every week and you take a 5 question quiz about their speech. She grades VERY harshly on the elevator speech & ePortfolio's.
If I could give this woman no stars I would. She is actually the worst ever. I did well in this class, but she was so rude and difficult. The entirety of your grade is dependent on 2 projects. Literally cannot say it enough- STAY AWAY
Material isn't bad, just not a good teacher. Literally rad straight from the powerpoints and read them too fast to take good notes on. Tests are hard for no reason. Look at other professors before taking her.
Exam questions were pretty specific so understanding the material is a must. Read and take notes from the textbook-- the textbook will be your friend! The assignments (3 per chapter) were easy and basically saved my grade. Definitely come to class because she will tell you some questions that will be on the exam plus any bonus point questions.
Professor Brown is a very nice woman, but an awful grader. She makes her exams very difficult and specific so make sure you study the material a lot. She is not easy to get in touch with and changes her syllabus frequently without informing her students. I have heard students have been trying to get her fired for a while now.
Awful and gets worse every semester. Legitimately gaslights students, changes the syllabus and then tells us we would have known if we had read it. Talks about random things and teaches and tests on topics not even in the text book like a racism video? A complete roller coaster of emotions, you never know whats next. Get ready to be yelled at daily
She is awful at teaching the lessons. I never had any idea of what would be on our exams. There is a 200-point project that can really help your grade and she sometimes gives extra credit. The material is not difficult but the way she presents it and tests on it is. I genuinely hated this class.
Doctor Brown is not a bad person, however, she should not be a teacher. She is disorganized, she changed the syllabus at will, her tests make you recite the notes word for word. Her class was basically training to do social work. She should not be required for nutrition majors.
Very lecture heavy. She wasn't the greatest teacher. She just read off the powerpoints she made. She did occasionallyn give out bonus points for attendance. There was one big project, but it was easy. Overall an easy class, just had to pay attention and study a little each day.
Worst professor I've ever had. Her tests are extremely hard and subjective. She doesn't seem to care about her students and makes everything so much harder than it needs to be. It's a shame that she is the only professor who is offered and that we have to take multiple classes with her. If someone else taught this class it may actually be enjoyable
Dr. Brown is not very compassionate or understanding. I dont think she understands how much students have going on and that were not only taking her class. The exams were really hard and the majority of the questions on them were stuff we never covered in class.
SO MUCH MATERIAL! And you weren't just tested on the material we learned in class, you were also tested on the application that was never covered. Go to class to listen to the lectures and she sometimes gives extra credit for being in class. Also, do you're diet project early to get your extra points.
The only complaint is that tests are pretty hard and sometimes not over what we learned in class. Overall very nice lady. Do all the extra credit and you'll get a B or maybe an A. Test averages were around 60-66%.
Don't take this class!
This entire class is just group work with a group she chooses for you. You have to volunteer for 20 hours, do a poster presentation, and submit a grant proposal along with the exams. It wasnt necessarily a hard class, but extremely frustrating. She didnt want us asking her about the proposal, then harshly graded them knowing that we were confused.
She just reads off the PowerPoint in her lectures and posts them to Canvas with blanks all throughout, so if you miss class, there's really no way to take the notes. Her tests are unbelievably hard, and the final is given with no study guide and is over at least 13 chapters. Just not a great teacher.
she talks very fast and notes are fill in the blank and she doesn't post the full notes. The tests are hard and she provides no study material.
Tests were impossible. Only thing that saves your grade are small assignments. One 200 point assignment that is also easy points if you do it correctly. Drops the lowest grade of 5 tests. Only count 4 of the 5 tests. Does give extra and I think she genuinely cares for her students it's just a very difficult class.
Reads straight from slides, can't answer your questions, tests are hard and she doesn't teach on a difficult level. There is a 200 point assignment that helps your grade a lot and she gives some extra credit if you go to class. Overall not too bad just not great either. If you don't study expect 50's or lower on tests.
Dr. Brown is a super nice person who actually does care about you, shell learn your name and ask how your doing. However, her tests suck. Its actually pretty pointless to go to class when you have to teach yourself the textbook before every test. The only way that I got a B much less passed was because of the major project she gives.
Dr. Brown is a very sweet caring person but her tests are extremely hard and confusing. There is some extra credit.
I had Brown two years ago and my experience this time around was much improved. That being said, the two tests are very vague and confusing. However, if you end up in a good group and do the work, you can still end with an A even if the two tests don't go well for you.
Genuinely the worst professor I have EVER had. So passive aggressive, claims her tests are easy but the average was a 66. This is the hardest class I have taken in college so far. You would think she would be nice but she barely gives any help or feedback. Lectures are boring and slides provide no information. DO NOT RECCOMEND!!!!
She's a kind lady and cares about her students, but her class is very difficult. The exams are insanely difficult and hard to study for, the class average is always low. Lectures are interesting and interactive, and she will take the time to get to know her students' names. Overall a nice lady but I would not recommend her class to anyone.
If you are not good at nutrition or anatomy, do NOT take this class! This professor talks so fast that I hardly had time to write notes. There's 5 tests (including the final) that are very hard but one's dropped. She gives a large curve on most tests, however, the class still fails. There is one diet analysis project and quizzes that are also easy.
If you have the option to take this class with anyone but Dr. Brown, do it. She is a nice person but an extremely difficult teacher. The slides make no sense and the tests are nearly impossible. Class average was an F for almost all 5 tests. The only reason I didn't fail is because of extra credit on a project and small chapter quizzes.
mr. brown is very nice as a person; however, her class is super hard. im usually a try hard when it comes to school but i literally had to withdraw myself out this class. the test are very difficult and has no correlation to the slides she lectures (the class average for the tests were really bad too). it best to rely on the project & extra credit
Dr. Brown is not a great lecturer. She mostly reads off the slides and gets distracted easily. She gives a LOT of extra credit. My advice to get a good grade is to READ THE TEXTBOOK and show up to class. Attendance is optional but sometimes she gives extra credit for being there. Class averages are low, but people don't show up to class.
class was hard but not impossible, offered 30 pts of EC, do those surveys! test averages were pretty low but she drops the lowest, including the final. she also grades slow. turn in the big project early u can get up to 10 extra points. she takes out unfair questions and curved every test, pretty fair and gets lots of undeserved hate.
The lectures seem to repeat the same things over and over and the exams are extremely hard no matter how much you study. She provides a lot of bonus opportunity which is the only way to bring up your grade. The tests are the majority of your grade and there are not many assignments. She reads directly from the slides.
She was nice some days and gives extra credit once a month but she is NOT willing to help her students. She has 5 exams throughout the semester and most have 4. I went to meet with her a bunch for help and she was always rude and had an attitude. I do NOT recommend her at all and if there is another professor as an option take that.
Dr Brown thought a very sweet lady should not be a professor. She practically just reads the book work for work and the test are always completely different. She did give many opportunities for extra credit which is the only reason I passed.
Super kind and genuine, but a pretty bad lecturer. Tests were fine if you studied both the lecture and the textbook. Studying for this class was time consuming and cramming will only be effective for the first exam. The diet analysis project is a big grade boost, and she does a lot of extra credit, but even without that an A is 100% attainable.
nice but her tests are insane and she just reads out of hte book for lecture. her class was the reason i changed my major. her project is the only reason i was able to pass and she offers a few extra credit but the tests are really hard and she doesnt teach whats on the tests
Try your best to avoid this professor. ESPECIALLY online. When I had problems accessing an exam, she didn't really care to help fix the problem. Additionally, the tests are nothing like the notes. The project and the quizzes are what saved my grade. Beware!
Her lectures are very interactive. She asks questions a lot in class. You can get extra credit by being in class, answering questions, and submitting the project early. Most material on exams comes from the lectures, but some comes from the online textbook. She drops the lowest test grade. She tries to make the lectures interesting.
Absolutely avoid her at all costs. She says she cares about if you pass the class or not but then won't answer any emails and is always uninterested. The exams have nothing to do with the lectures. I don't even understand what to study for these exams cause nothing is similar to her lectures. Worst class I've ever taken.
Super hard exams, be prepared to study!! Attendance isn't mandatory but make sure you go to class because she will verbally give you exam material that isn't on her powerpoint lectures. Overall a very passible class if you try, she does give small extra credit opportunities here and there.
She was nice, but the content on the tests is not always what she teaches and you have to study a lot. Everyone fails the tests. All of the assignments are easy and you can retake them, so these bring your grade up. She also offers extra credit, so it is definitely possible to get an A, but the tests make it frustrating.
Dr.Brown is very nice but tests are impossible. You have 5 exams instead of 4. Attendance isn't mandatory but if you don't go you wont have notes because she leaves slides blank. sometimes she gives extra credit for going to class which helps a lot. submit project early for extra points. difficult but 100% possible to get an A.
IT WAS NOT EASY. I never made above an F on any of her exams and I am usually a pretty good student. She is very unorganized and you kind of just have to figure out the work yourself. She reads off of sloppy slides that don't make sense if you are not in class. There are no study guides and the exams always seem to be on random, hard stuff.
Dr Brown is a kind lady but is extremely hard to work with. She is not great at answering emails and just reads off the slides. I also had to set up a makeup exam with her and she never showed up. I went all the way back home after waiting 30 minutes before some graduate student emailed me to come back and take it with her.
Dr. Brown is very funny and I enjoyed her as a person, but her lectures were straight out of the book and not helpful. If you don't learn well just by reading I wouldn't recommend her. Attendance isn't mandatory but sometimes she'll give out extra credit so you should still go. She seems disorganized and not really meant to teach.
