INTERSOLL SUCKS!!!! I HAVE TAKEN 102 UNITS AT MOORPARK COLLEGE, MY WORST GRADE WAS A "B." WHEN I HAD INGERSOLL I STUDIED MY ASS OFF FOR HIS TESTS, AND TOOK ALL THE NOTES HE SAID TO TAKE, AND GOT AN "F" ON BOTH EXAMS!!!! DONT TAKE INGERSOLL IF YOU WANT TO BE SURE YOU WILL PASS. NOTHINGS 100% W/ HIM.
This teacher is horrible..I think the board should fire him, because he tells the class about stories that don't pertain to music. He starts the class with his dramatic lecture of how he blinded a kid at 7yrs. old and beating people up when playing sports with them. Don't take this crazy teacher!!!
Class subject: 25% music, 75% life questions & stories. Crazy but entertaining personality. Gr8 piano-playing when emphasizing fundamentals of music. Repeated drilling of material until they are fully understood & unlikely to be forgotten.
Well, besides his stories, he'e really good teacher. There's always something that he says... But he always wraps it back around to make sense. Music Majors need this class. I would suggest this class. He's cool and funny. Enjoy.
he is ridiculous! 80% of the class has nothing to do with music, he tells insane stories, is RELIGIOUSLY BIASED, and screams at people. (don't sit in the front row!) don't miss class, pay attention and TAKE NOTES, it's the only way you'll pass the midterm and final! (he canceled class a lot too)
I think Orbie is an amazing teacher and im really sick of people saying he isn't. People just do not understand the complexity of his storyies and therefore, they think he doesn't make sense...well I have news for all of you.. THEY DO..your could just be a down right dolt!-luv ya Orbie
I love this man so much I took his class twice just for the hell of it! I took his class going into my freshman year of highschool and now I am going to be a junior in college. I still haven't forgotten all of the life lessons Orbie taught me.
Yeah he's a trip, but its a cool class. The people that said its hard are crazy. Easy class and very crazy stories. If you need an easy class this is the one to take...go high its more intertaining
Orbie is it! His class was fun, interesting, and he spices it up. His "mean" teacher impression is a facade, I had to go tlk to him after class one day and he was an absolute gentleman. His midterm and final are so easy, and you only need a C or better on BOTH to receive an A. He is it, take the class this summer. I promise you, you'll love him.

DO NOT TAKE HIM HE WILL FAIL YOU IF YOU MISS 7/30 Problems on the Mid term or final DANGER!!DANGER!!DANGER!!DANGER!!DANGER!!DANGER!!DANGER!!DANGER!!DANGER!!DANGER!! DO NOT TAKE THIS
A professor in which I will tell my grandchildren about when they are about to enter college.
If you want a professor to remember and a boring class made entertaining take Orbie just dont miss more than one class
I took his Music Appreciation back around 1990 and remember it so vivly because of his stories. He sets an emotional mood prior to playing a musical piece by telling a provocative story which may or may not true, but it doesn't matter. Accept the story and mood like you're watching a movie, and enjoy the music. Attendance is key for your grade.
Was doing fine-Had 6 yrs music experience-then the final came and he FAILED me because I wasn't loud in enough when counting beats. Screamed and yelled(lost patience)Wonderful teacher but reminds me of a drill sgt.
His stories are very interesting and exciting, he's so knowladgeable in music, and he knows how to keep everyones attention. Just dont have your cell phone ring, and dont fall asleep, and dont miss more than 3 classes. But take it from me, you wont want to miss more than 1 class, he's awesome.
interesting fellow... weird but interesting stories in class that somehow always relate to the music he plays in class... no homework... little notes... tells what is on the final (open note) and midterm (not), only two tests, show up on time and no talking!! or cellphones or water... weird but good in the end
This class is alot of fun !
I took Mr. Ingersoll back in 1988. He was a lunatic, in a good way. He graded on attendance. The attendance sheet showed that I'd missed a couple of days. I hadn't missed any days. I spoke with Mr. Ingersoll about the mistake, and he gave me an "A" on the spot. One hell of a guy! By the way, Mr. Ingersoll, "Above the Law" was not a realistic movie!
GUY IS A NUT!
worst teacher ever... will fail u
bad teacher.. bad grader
This is one of the best teachers I've ever had, in any subject.
Best teacher ever!
He spent about 20 minutes of the whole semester actually teaching, the rest was his insane propoganda. I missed 2 out of the 50 key signatures and he gave me a d in the class. At least i know a little bit about clay pidgeon shooting though...
this teacher is absolutlely nuts, reeally easy though, about 5 mins of knowledge per class, 2 hours of random (sometimes completely ****) stories. he repeats too much unimportant and says important things to quickly, don't miss class though!!
crazy guy i would not take this class unless you want to know about snake bites and i have not learned one thing of music this guy is ****ing crazy dont take him
you either love him or hate him. I LOVED HIM, VERY FUNNY AND INTERESTING, not a boring class at all, however if you truly love music, dont take his class..sort of irrelevant towards anything musical =]
WORST TEACHER EVER. It is IMPOSSIBLE to get an A in his class, and i'm not just saying that. You have to get 100 percent in his class to get an A...if you don't believe me, ask him to explain his grading scale... it's ridiculous
all the people who said hes hard r idiots...just go to class..be on time and get at least a C or better on the few tests and ull get an A.
For Music Appreciation, this is definitely a unique experience. Just make sure you DO NOT MISS A CLASS and you will pretty much have an A. He's a man who wants to be taken seriously, that's all.
Yes he is a bit crazy, and his stories are wild. When you really pay attention to his class, his stories make sense. You just have to pay attention.
His teaching style is unorthodox and he is certifiably crazy, but he is so interesting and the stories he tells in class will move you. He is such an entertaining and interesting man, crazy, lovely, and angry. He is amazing. Just don't miss any days of his class, study at least a few hours for the midterm, and you'll be fine.
total badass...
He's a pretty wiered teacher but i like him he seems to intimidate most of the students but if you can get past that you will be fine easy class thou
Great teacher, completely insane. To get an A, dont ****ing fall asleep in class, leave your cell phone in your ****ing car, and sign in how he ****ing tells you. This class was probably the easiest A I've ever gotten, and his stories keep you interested so you dont fall asleep. Best advice I can give is show up, shut up, and listen.
I took this in summer, I missed one class and could get no better than a C even though I did well on the only 2 tests he gave. No work really. Take 5 min of notes per class. The rest: sit back, listen, or pretend you are. NO sleeping or... ANYTHING. He can be pretty entertaining though.
its ok
This guy will keeps my laughing for most of his class. He is crazy, but his class is easy, just show up, maybe a bit blazed, cuz you wont have to do Sh*t in his class.
Orbie was the most intense and interesting instructor EVER. For the love of God, take his class. He is so out there and original with his teaching methods. I don't think anyone will ever regret taking a class with him.
Trying to find yourself? Figure out your life? Take this class. His lectures are intense and heavy. Oh, and it's an easy A if you show up on time and turn off your cell phone.
very cool, easy to pass class but don't interupt the music experiance
Good teacher, but make sure u cell phone never goes off or else u'll fail.
Honestly, interesting class, really easy, but you don't learn a damn thing about music. I remember his stories and his passion, but I don't remember anything we were tested on. If you wanna be entertained and get an easy A, then take it, if you want a good over view of music, don't.
great story teller.
This is a weird one. I learned squat about music, but he was really interesting. I was kind of afraid of him because he is super loud, and really enthusiastic about what he does. What ever you do, DO NOT sleep in his class or let your cell phone ring. If you do, he will fail you instantly. Other than that, it's an easy 'A'.
If I had to sum him up with one word it would have to be "intense". Don't be intimidated of him the first day of class. This was one of my most favorite classes in college. He is a great storyteller. No work, 2 tests that he more than adequately prepares you for. Easy A+. All you have to do is make sure your cell phone is off and you listen
in this class now; any tips on how to study for the harmonic minor scales? is he an easy grader? does he give exttra crdit?
passion is very, very sexy
no extra credit; study study study!! doesnt take attendence but there is no book so you need to be there! take good notes. class is out early always.
cool teacher. Lots of fun. Makes you think. Music Appreciation clas more about life than music. Doesn't always state things right out. CRAZY! easy A
Why is this guy still teaching? If you want to sit and listen to someone ramble about their life for 90% of the class then try to tie it into an actually music lesson for 10% this class is for you. Hes "bullyish", uses scare tactics and fear to intimidate the class. There is a thin line between passion and insanity, he should be committed.
If you are interested in learning anything about Musis DON'T take this guy!!He uses the time as a personal therepy session. He says you can get an A easy but it is such a gamble that its not worth it. i did everything right and somehow ended up w/ a D.We never get to see our tests so he can do whatever he wants. It was a waste of a semester
i am glad that everyone else doesnt like this teacher too. he is horrbile!!! makes moorpark look bad. he should be fired. or get bit by a snake.
Very interesting may. Kinda crazy but makes you think about life. Just follow his rules exactly and you will be fine.
ORBIE ROCKS. He is crazy, but one of my favorites. I can't believe so many people didn't enjoy his class. I looked forward to it everyday.
One flew over... and it was Orbie. WOW. If you want to learn about music, don't take this class. After a few classes he started to stress me out because he uses the forum for personal therapy, political gripe sessions and ridiculous overdramatizations of random material that has nothing to do with music! Tenure has advantages I suppose.
The guy is a nutter. Absolute nutter. He randomly tangents about his life and tries to convey messages about music through them. Unfortunately for him, this often fails. Guess he is too hardheaded to understand that.
Orbie is the best teacher i've ever had. His class is like watching a one man show. He'll make you laugh then cry a second later. If you go to class and take notes on what he tells you to, you'll get an A...I did. whatever you do, be respectful, and don't disturb the listening time. You have to take this class with him, he is unbelievably amazing.
It has been over a year since I had Mr. Ingersoll as an instructor and his class words are still with me. You will see a series of bad reviews on this page, do not feel daunted. If you appreciate style, passion, humanity and grace then you will fall in love with his class. Some say he is insane; I say he has guts.
No, hes insane. Take his class because it is easy but dont expect to learn anything about music. Just go to class, initial his role book the right way, stay awake, and God help you if your cell phone rings.
I really don't know what to say. This class was bipolar, seriously. There was never a dull moment, Orbie is always talking about something...whether it has to do with music or not is a different story. I worked my ass off and got a B...3 tests, no hw. You better pass those tests! This guy is such a hardass, like he's killed someone in his lifetime
THE BEST MUSIC TEACHER I'VE EVER HAD! HE IS A GENIUS! I ACTUALLY LOOKED FORWARD COMING TO HIS CLASS. IF YOU DON'T UNDERSTAND SOMETHING HE WILL GO THE EXTRA MILE TO EXPLAIN IT TO YOU, VERY APPROACHABLE. HIS CLASS IS AN AWESOME EXPERIENCE. DON'T PAY ATTENTION TO THE BAD REVIEWS, JUST SHOW UP, TAKE NOTES, AND YOU'LL GET AN A.
Mr. Ingersoll gives step by step instructions, just make sure you copy from the board, that helped me a lot. I would definitely take his class again.
the bomb
Terrible! He is psycho. Never had a professor scream and yell before to no point! I had his class some years ago and I dropped because it was the worst. I took the class because I enjoyed music but I left very upset and disappointed. I eventually took another professor at Moorpark who was way better!
The only teacher I ever had that felt passionate about teaching and music. Rock on!
I had Mr. Ingersoll 2 years ago and his lectures are still with me. I highly recommend anyone to take any of his classes. He cares so much about his students. He is an inspiration to us all.
This guy is the worst music teacher you could ask for. If you're to take his class for an easy credit go for it. If you want a career in music and to learn don't take his class, he tells a bunch of B.S. stories that have nothing to do with anything. I dropped and took Demmond, learned in 2 days what took 2 weeks with Ingersol. Waste of time.
very very easy on. if you are taking it just for generel ed requirements i suggest taking this class for sure. he tells you everything that is going to be on the test and hes interesting!
Mr. Ingersoll is an excellent teacher. He really cared about us succeeding as musicians. He’s very knowledgeable and interesting to listen to. Expect to study and attend class. His class in not difficult, but you will learn a lot.
He is the most interesting professors I have ever had. Lectures are thoroughly enjoyable. Gives fair exams.
Everyone who insists Orbie was griping about his life obviously did not read the disclaimer he gave saying most of his stories were made up. He was a fantastic and interesting teacher, and I thoroughly enjoyed going to class everyday.
This guy is my hero. He was incredibly interesting. I took him summer of '04 and am seriously considering taking him again. He is great, the class is interesting. You don't need to have a passion for music to be interested. A "C" or better on both tests is an "A" in the class. Take him. He is so worth it.
I loved his music appreciation class, he teaches with examples in a way that captures your interest. He gets his point across and it is inspirational!!! Study your notes and you will do well.
Seems like a nice guy but he goes off on these crazy tangents on the oddest things and then after about an hour he conects it music in the most remote way. Difficult to understand and just hard to listen to...
The class was easy. No textbook work or work of any kind. There were notes and then the midterm and final. Also very interesting and enlightening class. I looked forward to coming to this class. I just sat back and watched him put on his little show. Don't go through class only thinking about how crazy he acts. Just go with what he says and think.
Had Music Fundamentals for non-music majors with him, and he wants people to understand something about music that you can take away. While you need to learn some of the basics, he is interested that you learn about music and wants to make sure all students understand. Explains things very well and extremely fair.
Easy A. Gives you the test answers before hand. Mid-term 40%, Final 40%, and two Concert Reviews 20%. You can go to any concert you want. Do not let your cell phone ringer go off (you will lose your A). He will tell you what to write down by saying "Take Out Your Notes And Write This Down". Plus, his class is really interesting. Take him.
Very entertaining guy. If you get a c or higher on both tests you get an A in the class. I aced both tests anyways not tough GREAT STORIES pretty easy A for anyone who is iwlling to put in a minimum effort.
Such an amazing guy! He literally told us what was on the test. At first no one appreciated how cool he was until we got a sub, which was insane, 65% of the class failed! The next week Orbie came & everyone was so excited to see him. We re took the test and almost everyone got an A! So TAKE HIM for an EASY A.
Orbie Ingersoll is awesome. I was recommended to the class to make up some credits and I didn't regret taking it. I took the night class and it was like going to a play once a week. He keeps your interest extremely high and gives absolutely NO homework. Final was easy - open notes. An easy A and far from a waste of time.
He is awesome. Very willing to explain and make things clear. You have to pay attention and do outside work at times. He is THE BEST teacher I have ever had. He has amazing stories and is really intense but really a caring person. He wants you to succeed and will help you any way he can.
The best music teacher I have ever had!!! He goes out of his way to explain the class work. Has a great sense of humor with class. I recommend Ingersoll to everyone who wants to learn about music. A true musician.
The best music teacher I have ever had!!! He goes out of his way to explain the class work. Has a great sense of humor with class. I recommend Ingersoll to everyone who wants to learn about music. A true musician.
Ingersoll has changed my life. How he used analogies to introduce different types of music is genius. I will never forget his class. He kept my interest high...never boring. What an awesome teacher!!! Can't wait to take more courses with Ingersoll.
He teaches you 5 different ways to write the scales and if you use 4 out of the 5 you will fail, you have to use the "special way." I am not sure how 1/2 of his 3 hours stories apply to music but I guess if you like stories take him.
The best professor by far!!! Willing to explain. Always there for any questions. Attend class and you will do fine. Go Ingersoll.
Orbie rocks. Kept our interest high. His teaching methods are very creative. We loved every moment. Everyone should take his class.
He fits the bill as a music appreciation instructor because his love of passion rivals the romantic period itself (har har M08 joke). He tries to use an abstract and original approach to teach students, but the success rate of that is still debatable. His exams aren't hard at all. If you can't pass his class, don't bother going to college.
Its an overall easy class. By the end of it though you find yourself not going cause its pretty insane, and so is he. Uses very abstract ways to teach and ends up crying in some of the classes. Hes kinda nuts. but its an ok class, pretty easy, just gotta take the very few notes.
I will never forget this class. It's an easy A class if you go to class and study the notes he gives you for the 2 tests(which are very few). The book isn't necessary. Somehow he seems to always correlate his stories to music. This class should be mandatory for all students at Moorpark. I guarantee you'll never have a class like it again.
Orbie is the best teacher at moorpark...his class should be mandatory to everyone...if you can't do well in his classes then you shouldn't be in college...great teacher.
He is definetly something different...tests were easy as long as you take notes and study them...I studied a few hours before the test and I got an A it is not hard at all because he tells whats going to be on the test in the order it goes...for me the class was boring but some people seemed to enjoy it
I hate him, he is the worst teacher every, his lectures dont even go by his notes, he is random and annoying, and the mandtory attendance was lame. Not only that but he was just a BAD teacher, more then 50 ppl failed his class, and were not even prepared for his test, as the test do not corrlate with his lectures so over all, take it if you MUST
The best teacher ever!!!! Everyone should be required to take Ingersoll. He explains his lectures with such ease. We never got bored. The only people who fail are those who don't attend class. The test materials are on the board. And by the way it was not 50% of the people who failed, it was only a few who hardly show up and then whine. Go Orbie!!!
Orbie is amazing. His class is an experience. He's extremely smart and strong willed, which may intimidate students who are just there for the grade. Whether or not you agree with his views, if you keep an open mind and truly listen to him, you'll appreciate his brilliance. As for the course material, he makes it so clear you can't fail. Go Orbie!
I'd have to say that Ingersoll is one of the best and most interesting professor I have ever had!!
This teacher is the greatest teacher i've ever had in my life. I looked forward to every class and regretted missing 2 of his classes. Very powerful lectures and he is extremely passionate about life and the realization of the beauty in it. Highly recommend him, no book use, and easy A as long as you give your ears to him (show up to class too!)
For the love of music, take Ingersoll anything! He'll rock you like a baby and throw you out of the cradle. He'll bark at you in a gruff tone and caress your name in another. He'll frighten you, excite you, entertain you, teach you fine music skills, teach you deep respect for greatness, soften you, harden you, give you the strength from his bod
There's a reason that there are 175 ratings for orbie. One way or another, love him or hate him, he and his classes will leave an impact on you. I enjoyed his classes on the whole (although sometimes he gets preachy) Just dont expect someone like a real teacher, he's more like a performer/actor. Music apprec. becomes depressing storytime
This class is so easy. All you need to do is take notes and you will get an A. HE EVEN TELLS YOU WHAT TO WRITE DOWN! Show up everyday, don't be like these clowns who miss classes and ended up with a low grade and start complaining here about it.
The best teacher at Moorpark College!!! Kept my interest high on the different types of music I would never dream of listening to. Thought provoking analogous to understand each composer. No wonder past students love to drop by his class and listen to his lectures again and again!!! I will never forget music appreciation with Professor Ingersoll.
I must say that Orbie Ingersoll is one of my all time favourite professors. He passionate about music and life in a way that most people in general are not. I can truly say that his style of teaching has influenced my own way of teaching. so if you read this, thank you Orbie for giving so much. Michelle Fernandez class of 1983
THIS MAN TEACHES HIS HEART OUT! There is no other teacher like him. He is crazy but it's a good crazy. He keeps you engaged and excited. He does a good job of connecting his life lessons to the music you here. This man truly cares about teaching.
The best teacher at Moorpark College. At first I did not know what to expect. He begins with a story about the composer then ties it in with the lecture and listening to the music. I love his teaching methods...never a bore. He was always open to what we had to say, very open minded. Wish everyone taught like him!!!! Or he should teach more classes
Orbie is a very unique teacher. I highly recommend taking this class because of his passion. Attend class, 2 concert reviews, and 2 tests. This class gave me an experience I will not forget. If you study before the mid term and final, you will get an A. I highly recommend this teacher. Don't take the class if you don't have an open mind.
Wonderful Professor!!! Experience and feed off his knowledge and passion. If you "get him" you may be able to bring your work and life to a new level.
He was very helpful in explaining what we needed to learn. He gave step by step directions. Very passionate about music and mostly teaching the material. He would "jump through hoops" to try to explain the class work to those students who had no background on music. I would highly recommend him for any music classes!!! The best teacher I ever had.
Orbie is amazing!!! He is honestly my favorite teacher. He is so inspiring, and very encouraging if you are respectful. He's really taught me that you have to work hard for your music..and be passionate. I definitely want to talk him again!
orbie ingersoll has got to be one of the greatest teachers out there! i would always look forward to go to his class because it was just so interesting. this man does exactly what the name of the class implies and that is to make you appreciate music. unfortunatly he left us in the middle of the semester due to back surgery leaving us with a sub.
LOVED THIS TEACHER! he is crazy but awesome. you have to show up to his class. very easy, he is intertaing and keeps you wanting to learn! TAKE THIS TEACHER!
Very nice teacher, cares about his students and their grade.Really funny most of the times when he tells stories. No textbook use until he gives you the study guide so you will need it because he does not cover much material.Loves music, overall compared to other music teachers,he's easy.Attendance is Manditory.
A Great Teacher and a very intersting class. Will make you see the world in a new way.
What an awesome class! I looked forward to how Mr. Ingersoll was going to teach each class session. He made learning music so much fun. Now I can't wait to take music appreciation.
I couldn't stand his class at all. I had to drop since I took a music class to hear about music not his life. He though i fell asleep in class but i wasn't and he wouldn't even listen to my explanation. I would not take the class.
Extremely enjoyable class, Orbie's passion for the musical art is amazing. He makes learning about music fun and interesting. He's a little crazy but time, but that's what makes the class so fun. He's strict, absolutely, NO CELL PHONES! or food and drinks. this class was amazing, it changed my life.
got an A. it isnt that hard. i dont bother leaving ratings for professors, but for you have to. some of the things discussed in class made me want to scream and it made alot of people uncomfortable, he tells you too much depressing stuff about his life. but its an easy grade
super easy. follow all the rules! no phones, food or drinks. he is insane but im not sure if its in a good way. tells pointless stories and barely talks about music. if u want an easy grade take him, you never do anything. be at every class he has strict attendence. very sweet man, really cares about you and your grade.
Loved this class. He told awesome stories about the composer's lives. Not your typical boring lecture class. He will make you think about music in a whole different light. The best professor at Moorpark College!!!I would definitely take Mr. Ingersoll again.
DO NOT TAKE THIS TEACHER... im a 3.0+ student and im prob getiting a C. the classes arent necissarily boring but you learn ABSOLUTELY NOTHING. if you want to read a whole music book on your own to prepare for his 2 tests then take him but i have 8 years of music exp and without reading the book i was screwed. interesting prof, horrible teacher
By far the worst class I have ever taken. If you miss more than 2 classes you cant get higher than a C. All he does is rant and rave about pointless stories that have nothing to do with music. He will talk about football players for an hour and then try and relate it to music. I have never been so irritated in a class in my entire life. AWFUL!
Got an A. Just study your notes and you will be fine. He made the class into a learning experience rather than copying from the board for an hour. He had a great sense of humor, and explained the material. How can anyone get lower than an A? Attend class and study the notes.A lot easier than my other classes. He taught with passion.Must love music.
The best music class at Moorpark College. Attend class and he will let you know what to study for..easy A. You will learn the story behind each piece of music. Something that you can't learn by just reading the textbook. Orbie Rocks!!!
i would recommend professor ingersoll. he took time explaining how to build the major scales, very easy to understand. he kept the class interesting and cared about us learning the material. i will be taking the next music course with him.
Passionate teacher. Introduced me to music by opening my eyes and ears to a whole new world of Symphonies, Jazz and Rock. It was not just about appreciating music, but learning how and what to look for when listening to each song. His teaching touched my heart.
He's the Man! He makes the class fun by illustrating the composer's lives instead of a lot of the book stuff(which can get very boring). Willing to help those who need it. He's a great professor. I would take him again.
Prof. Ingersoll is an amazing teacher. Incredible sense of enthusiasm for teaching music! Deeply cares about the students' success and is always very supportive and helpful. Witty and brilliant.
Very encouraging and a very nice person. He cares more about my progress instead of how well you are compare to others. You will learn a lot from him and it comes very easily. Take his class. A wonderful professor and a wonderful person!
Professor Ingersoll is so enthusiastic about teaching music. He knows his stuff. Has passion which lacks in other professors. He explains what to study for/crystal clear...easy A. Best experience throughout the semester.
This guys teaching method is a bit odd, and somewhat boring. Just study the study guide he gives you and you should have no problem getting an A in the class. And try and not fall asleep
Very passionate professor. He has a wealth of information on music! And it is so refreshing to see his years of experience of music tied up to his lectures. I would most definitely take another course with Mr. Ingersoll.
Best teacher I have ever had. Ingersoll has a full insight and helpful techniques for improvement. He is one of the treasures of Moorpark College. Take all of his classes, he is the best!
Orbie Ingersoll is the best prof. I have had in a long time. You will do well in his class if you take the time to study the notes and the listening. Very knowledgeable and his passion for the music studied is contagious. He is extremely funny and tells great stories. He knows how to make class interesting and fun!
Orbie was an awesome professor, probably the only class I have ever wanted to attend! Not a hard music fundamentals class if you study. Good sense of humor, very intelligent and has a definite passion for music. He gives lots of good examples in class. I would definitely recommend him to someone who knows nothing about music.
this guy is rediculous! would never take him again. his is the only class i have ever dropped. his idea of teaching is saying something and having the class repeat it in unison. he goes off on random tangents for an hour at a time! nice guy, horrible teacher.
sometimes i wondered if he would rather be a theatrical actor as opposed to a professor. class is mandatory (2 misses and u get a "C" no matter what, late 10 mins u cant attend class). he would go off on random tangents which can be either irratating or interesting, depends on the topic hes discussing. easy a if u do the review for the 3 tests.
The best music teacher I had in a very long time. Just follow the syllabus, which doesn?t take a genius to figure it out. Super easy! I would definitely recommend Professor Ingersoll. I am already enrolled in his Summer class. Orbie Rocks!!!
Orbie Ingersoll is a legend. He is the best lecturers at Moorpark College. His lectures are clear, informative and amusing. He is very helpful and energetic. Definitely take this class.
Great teacher, very approachable and friendly, wants to help everyone learn and makes the Music Fundamentals course very interesting and fun.
Not sure what the other comments are about. He is the best teacher at M.C. His years of conducting and playing in a major symphony showed in his lectures and the way he taught the class. He kept my interest high and wanting to learn more. What you will take from his class is how to really appreciate many styles of music from an authentic professor!

How he introduced each piece of music was awesome. I will never be able to listen to music without feeling some kind of an emotional connection to the composer.I loved his Mozart lecture. You have to take his Music Appreciation class to actually experience his magic, and you will never take life and the arts for granted. Prof. Ingersoll is the BEST.
Mr. Ingersoll helped me understand the things that are in music are in us as well.He has changed my life forever.I sat in his class to see what everyone was raving about, and when I wanted to register for his class the next semester I ended up on the waiting list.Register for his class early to get a sit.As for grading, he is very fair, I got an A.
Orbie is the man! He has such a vast knowledge about music that the class runs smoothly. I did not know where the time went. He is not your typical boring music professor. No need to buy the textbook. Take notes, and he will let you know what to study for the test. Easy A.
Amazing teacher. You will be listening to music in a completely different light. I never thought I could actually like being taught how to appreciate music. But Ingersoll has opened a whole new world of listening and appreciating music. He made me feel things about music that I have never been able to feel before. Definitely take his class.
I took Professor Ingersoll Music Appreciation course years ago,and he is by far the best Professor at Moorpark College. He is truly brilliant! After all these years my friends and I still talk about his lectures. There will never be another music teacher like him.We feel very lucky and blessed to have had the chance to take his class. He is the finest
He motivated me to continue learning music when I was about to give up. He is an inspiration. He will take the time to explain the material thoroughly. His passion and technique in teaching Music Fundamentals was very helpful. I highly recommend his class.
Orbie rules! Take his Music Appreciation class even if you do not like music. He made the class fun?.not a dull moment. Show up, and go to a concert of your choice, you will get an A.
Ingersoll is an awesome dude that really loves music. clear in his expectations. very understanding and knowledgeable. i understood what he was explaining and i actually stayed awake and was interested. Take him!
I took him for music fundamentals in the summer, and believe me, I am horrible at theory. I have never learned so much in so little time with a teacher. He is very clear and very helpful. He has so much patience and is very understanding. He really helped me understand the material and I wouldnt recommend anyone else but him!
Worst teacher I have ever taken. Lectures more about life than he does about the class. Thinks he is better than anyone else, and he is extremely annoying. Very strict on how he grades. Every note and line has to be absolutely perfect or else he marks the whole thing wrong. Only reason i got an A was cuz i already knew a lot about music.Bad teacher
Such a wonderful teacher!! If you ever get the chance to have him as a teacher for any subject, take him! Very clear and goes step by step to understanding concepts. A very patient and humble person. I learned so much from him. The whole class loved this man.
cool guy, interesting lectures and easy tests. only looked at book twice, no quizzes. tests are easy if you study. Make sure you take his notes in class, that is the test, use it! you'll make an A if you do!
Great teacher. Tests what is REALLY important and not the trivial stuff like other professors. Music examples in class help clarify any confusion that may come from text. Laid back and really loves what he does and makes class actually interesting
He's crazy!!! but not in a bad way. Tells you exactly what is on the tests. MUST attend the class to get a good grade. He tells interesting stories but he's hilarious!! I def. suggest taking this class. eaaaasy A
Professor Ingersoll is the greatest! he really cares a lot about all of his students. In class, if you dont understand something, he will explain it a different way until you understand! his tests were just like the lectures. I would sign up for another one of his courses in a heartbeat.
Had him 20 years ago and such a good class I still think of his teaching style and remember what he taught me often, in everyday life as well as musically.
Awesome Professor, has ultimate command of the subject as well those outside of ear training. Very smart & loves teaching music. Unlike other professors, Ingersoll is very assertive & appropriately challenges all students. If you want to truly enhance your musicianship, take Ingersoll.
Ingersoll is the most thought provoking and inspiring teacher at Moorpark. He is wise, full of information, beautiful, and creative. He takes you into a musical journey filled with every emotion you can muster. You get a better understanding of the composers life in that time period. You will never forget his lectures. Class fills up quick.
I agree,Prof Ingersoll is a legend! Loved his teaching style. It did not feel like I was being lectured to,instead I was given the opportunity to explore my own thoughts and ideas in regard to the vast styles of music.I highly recommend his mus app 8 to anyone who truly wants to appreciate an awesome class, and a teacher who is passionate about music
Orbie is amazing! Class was never boring, and I actually WANTED to pay attention to the things he said. He makes a lot of comparisons that we can all relate to so it's very easy. I learned way more than I expected out of that class, not just about music either.
The finest professor at Moorpark College. His lectures flowed right into the music we were about to listen to. I never struggled in his class, he explained exactly what we needed to know for the tests. He was very understanding when I had to miss class for a personal reason. He cared about the students learning experience. Definitely take Ingersoll.
Orbie was absolutely magical. I went into the class not expecting much, but Orbie made the course so thought-provoking, interesting, and fun. Will tell you exactly what's on midterm and final. Such a kind, compassionate, wise, helpful, and gracious professor. You will love his class! Just pay attention in class, and you won't need the textbook.
Do yourself a favor and take Music Appreciation with someone else.
Got an A. You need to attend class and take notes. You won?t need the text. He will guide you every step of the way. Awesome Music Professor. Learned so much about the different genre of music. I will never forget his class. The best Professor I ever had! His Music Appreciation class is so in demand, enroll early to guarantee a sit.
He is the man. Just had his summer music 8 class. He was energetic and kept the class interesting. He is not one of the teachers who read from the book?Orbie made you think. Everyday his lectures were different. His love for music and the arts were contagious. Wished my other teachers taught like him.
Hats off to Mr. Ingersoll. When I had to miss class and needed the notes, Mr. Ingersoll took the time to provide all the details and info. that was covered in his lectures. He is very dedicated in making sure you know what is required for class. He is crystal clear and an easy A. Amazing teacher. I highly recommend his music 08 appreciation class.
A really good teacher all around. He was always willing to help and had a refreshingly flexible approach to whatever he was teaching. A very insightful and understanding teacher. He will challenge you to do your best work and help you in every way he can.
Ingersoll is the best music professor ever. I was not even a music major before I took his class, and now I am. I wish I could take him for all of my music theory classes. I like the fact that I did not need to use the textbook. All you need for the class is the notes. Definitely take Ingersoll.
I didn't like the class. I took Music Appreciation and found it difficult to follow his lectures. He goes on tangents frequently--making some of the lectures uninteresting. He gives you the answers to tests but it doesn't help much.
Very nice and helpful. He is what teaching should be. Not boring. He totally gets into his class. It was like riding a roller coaster. I recommend him. Don't take him if you like to screw off. No cell phones, talking during the music, etc?
He was so interesting. Has a unique way of teaching, he knows music better than anyone! He will make the material memorable and fun. Absolutely loved his class! Will take more in the future with him. Take notes when he says to, NEVER let your cell go off, and be respectful, easy A.
Orbie is the most passionate teacher I have ever had. His lectures are awesome, some of which I will never forget. Sometimes the beginning leaves you guessing where he is heading, but it ends up making perfect sense. I highly recommend this teacher. I got a B, but that was my fault b/c I didn't study the right stuff. LISTEN to his instructions!
Orbie is a great guy, he knows his stuff, and he will spend 10 hours extra helping you if you need it. Not only did I learn everything I needed to, but he made it fun to learn it. Id recommend the class over all the other teachers I hear about.
What a great Professor. He used awesome analogies to make us see and feel how and why each composer wrote their piece of music. If you want a break from boring classes this class is definitely the one to take!
Mr. Ingersoll is an awesome music prof. Everyone should take a class from this professor. Incredibly fair grader, knows his topics inside and out, and has an outstanding (and engaging) teaching style. His class will change your life. I would definitely recommend him!
He is an absolutely brilliant teacher! His lectures always hit home and they're unforgettable. That being said, it's also an easy class. He gives you notes he needs for tests and you'll get an A on the concert reports as long as you turned them in. Also, participate! I regret not participating more in our discussions.
Music Appreciation with Prof. Ingersoll was amazing. The best teacher I ever had at Moorpark College. He tells you what you need to know for the midterm and the final, and you get to see any concert of your choice. He really has a passion for what he?s teaching and does an outstanding job communicating. I highly recommend him.
Ingersoll is the most animated teacher you will ever have. He is kind and extremely helpful. He goes off on crazy tangents at times, but you will never forget him. Make sure that you write sharps/flats perfectly on the staff. If they aren't perfectly centered, it's wrong. He takes that very seriously. He is inspiring, but at times seemingly insane.
Took music appreciation with orbie ingersol in 1975? It was an awsome scene, night class, a stage, huge speakers with rock blaring across a lawn at sunset. We wrote our term paper on how the character of Dionysius is experienced or expressed in our lives. Great class! Music is the only drug I need! Yay Orbie!
Orbie rocks! I have him for musicianship and I absolutely adore him. He's a bit eccentric but he's also a perfect example of what a truly dedicated musician is. My dad had Orbie for Appreciation in the 70s and professor Ingersoll made quite an impression on him, too. If you can appreciate quirky genius while maintaining your own focus, take him!
if you can handle all his quirks (no cell phones, no taking) and like to be entertained then Orbie is the man-This is a music class, but the road he takes to get to the actual music is pretty entertaining-don't need book, he tells you pretty much what to write as far as notes go - Easy A, but this class isn't all about the grade..it's about Obie!!
His antics are crazy at times, but somehow relates them to music. Most of the time spent in class doesn't have to do with the test material, but he'll tell you when you need to take notes and what material will be on the midterm & final. Attendance is VERY important! (Two absences = C) Concert reviews are full credit if turned in.
Ingersoll is the most thought provoking and inspiring teacher at Moorpark. He is wise, full of information, beautiful, and creative. He takes you into a musical journey filled with every emotion you can muster. You get a better understanding of the composers life in that time period. You will never forget his lectures. I definitely recommend him!
Orbi is definitely different. He thinks in a completely different way than most. He goes off on crazy tangents that have nothing to do with Music like sports etc. I wouldn't recommend him if you want to learn alot about music because he mostly talks about personal info then gives you the midterm and final answers when its time. I wouldnt take him.
Good Teacher, but holds back on some information.
This creative professor opened my mind, absolutely brilliant. Lectures flowed right into the music. He is the most inspiring teacher I ever had, a true artist!! I would definitely take another course with him.
An amazing professor. He generates enthusiasm, inspiration and a sense of humor to a subject that seems ordinary. Attend class so you can know what to study for the midterm and the final..smooth A. Orbie Rules!
Music Appreciation with Ingersoll was awesome. Each session was different and he had a way of drawing analogies to explain each period. Loved his teaching method. It was nice to see a professor passionate about teaching. Take notes attend a concert and you will get an A.
Cool dude! Never a boring class. Learned a lot from this wise teacher.
Orbie is definitely worth taking. This class requires you to attend and study but you will get a good grade if you show interest and ask questions. Orbie is fair and fun to talk too. He is very knowledgeable. I really enjoyed this class and it has made a difference in my life.
Professor Ingersoll is a really cool guy who likes teaching. Even though you need to take notes and work hard, he keeps the class interesting. Gives handouts and study guides which really helps you understand the material. He is super fair. I loved all of his classes. I agree, definitely take Ingersoll!
Orbie is an amazing teacher. Most people don't understand that EVERYTHING he talks about is related to music. Even if he spend 45 min talking about Navajo Indians, he somehow brings it back to music. You just need to pay attention to understand what he's saying. I highly recommend him for a great music and life experience.
Professor Ingersoll is an excellent music teacher. He is always willing to help you out and go over the notes to make sure you get it right. He is one of those teachers who never gives up on his students learning. He is the best teacher you will ever have.
Orbie rocks!!
I love this professor! He really knows his stuff and his class is definitely worth taking! His exams are from the class handouts and if you actually study you do get A's. I got an A for the class and for all of the 3 exams.
Awesome teacher that I have kept in contact with over the years.
Orbie's Music appreciation class is a fun ride. His enthusiasm inspires you to learn. Anything he writes on the board, write it down, that is what will be on the exams. The best class I have taken at Moorpark.
Mr. Ingersoll made learning easy. His class was a breeze. Take this guy he is the best!
One of the few Professors whom I really admire. He is helpful, encouraging and knowledgeable. I will be taking more class with him for sure.
Took his class thinking the lectures would be primarily about music. Boy was I wrong. The class should be called Orbie 101 since most of the lecture (3.5/3.75hrs) was about his life/experiences. The last 20 minutes was spent on notes. Beware: he has a loud, not angry, voice so he can emphasize unimportant words.
The only class I looked forward to going to. He had a fascinating way in connecting the composers' music with analogies. He was absolutely spellbinding.
I loved this class. I would take any of his classes. He's an outstanding teacher. I never thought i would be good at music theory, but he made it all sooo easy. if you have to take any music classes, do so with orbie. you won't be disappointed.
You can feel that he genuinely loves what he does and wants the best for his students. He doesn't just try to "get by," he really digs in and makes it an experience, a true learning experience. I think he's remarkable. Definitely take his music appreciation course.
He is hands down the best professor at MC. If you can get into his class you should def. take it! He is one of the best teachers you could ask for! He is not hard but you actually learn a lot from him. He makes you learn without you knowing!
He's the Best teacher ever...this class would make my day... you have a midterm, Dept. test, and final...trust me take him...you don't even need the book if you pay attention in class!!!!
orbie is fantastic and so entertaining to watch and listen to. he says every class how much he sincerely values his students and what they have to say. his lectures are so deep and thoughtful and really opens your mind. this class is like a life class connecting some music into it. definitely one of the best professors i hhave taken. love it!!
I had Ingersoll for music 01 and music 2al and he is amazing! Im now at csun & taking music courses there. From his teaching I have learned a lot to help me where I am now. If I could have him again I would!
I had Orbie in 1981 for music appreciation. The other day i was wondering what ever happened to him. It is nice to see that he is still touching people in unique, yet phenominal ways. His stories about his father, hunting, dating and life were histerical..but the way he related them to music were and are still unforgetable.Nice job Orbie
I had Orbie as a music teacher about 1989 and I didn't realize the impact he had on my appreciation for classical music until about 20 years later. Thank you for helping me appreciate Beethoven and others to this day Orbie!
Good teacher knows how to teach the class. Be aware grading scale is 91%-100%=A. Just letting you know there is a part on the midterm that is worth 10% if you get it wrong and receive a 90% you have yourself a B. And just letting you know receiving 90% is the same as an 82%. Hope this helps!
He's kind of out there, but he makes class interesting. You honestly don't really need the book as long as you attend class, which is mandatory anyway. He's very dramatic, and he HATES cellphones! You don't take too many notes, and he tells you everything you need to know for the tests.
He is an amazing teacher! You'll learn alot more than music in his class. Definitely worth taking, however, he's not easy.
The only class I looked forward to each Monday and Wednesday. He captured the essence of each composer brilliantly, which in return made me understand and appreciate music that I would never normally listen to (classical, jazz...)I have never seen a professor so enthusiastic and passionate about a subject. Loved his teaching methods!!!
I don't even know where to begin. This guy not even a teacher he's a storyteller! Day before a test and instead of helping the class he decides to tell one of his useless stories. Not a teacher advise not taking him. Goodluck
Ingersoll is definitely worth taking. I changed my schedule around so I could take his music appreciation class. I am going to miss his lectures. FYI: Everything that you need to know for the exams will be on the board, write it down! Simple and easy:)
Ingersoll is one of those teachers who will explain the material 10 different ways until you get it. He has gone above and beyond any teacher I have ever had to make sure I understood the material. The best music theory teacher out there. I highly recommend him for anyone who is serious about learning music theory.
Ingersoll is the most intense and interesting instructor EVER. For the love of God, take his class. He is original with his teaching methods so there is never a dull moment. Just make sure your cell phone is turned off. The best class at m.c.
He is the Man!
Orbie Ingersoll is no match when it comes to music appreciation, he is pure genius.Loved his teaching style!Orbie Rules.
He made the class interesting and was very helpful in explaining the key signatures. I recommend him to anyone who actually wants to learn theory and loves music passionately like he does.
Orbie is a wonderful teacher if you are serious about learning music; if you aren't serious, the class will be extremely hard. Do not skip learning your Key Signatures. YOU WILL NEED THEM!
Pretty much the best teacher I've ever had in any college. I laughed, I cried, I felt every note. He opened my eyes and ears to so many new emotions through music.
I have taken both of his music classes. The best teacher ever! His Music08 was just awesome.Loved his teaching style.I have never felt alive in a classroom.Told us what to study for and I got an A.Mus01 I think is more for music majors.I had to put in a little more effort but it was worth it. I wish he taught other subjects.Definitely take Ingersoll.
Professor Ingersoll is second to none, if all of my professors were like him college would be a breeze. Thank you for all that you do!
Very helpful, student-centered instructor. Will definitely go out of his way to make sure you're doing ok in his classes. Makes the learning more valuable and interesting. Directions are very clear and you learn a lot from this class.
Orbie RULES!!! Funnest class ever. Orbie is very passionate about music and it definetley shows in his lectures. keeps your attention with funny and whacky stories that eventually leads up to something about the piece he's gonna play. He tells you everything that you need to take notes on for the tests. Gives you study guide for tests.
Professor Ingersoll is just awesome. Tells you what to study for, gives you a study guide with all the info. crystal clear and so easy. My favorite professor at M.C. and not because I got an A. He just made the class so much fun! I am taking his other music class over the summer. Ingersoll is the best!
Great teacher and very helpful. He went above and beyond in helping me understand the key signatures. He truly cared about my progress and wanted me to learn as much as possible in his class. He made learning the material sooo easy. He was very fair with grading. Ask questions, he is so easy to talk to. Highly recommend this teacher.
DONT BE FOOLED, MUSIC MO1 IS A HARD CLASS! However, Orbie is really good at making the material easy to understand by breaking it down in to the simplest of steps. He also goes over the same thing over and over so you really get it in your head. THE BIGGEST COMPLAINT I would have would have to be his interjection of his personal opinions about life
I wouldn't really say this as a hard class. In fact, I don't know why everyone below me is saying it's hard. It's pretty easy as long as you never miss more than 1 class and study your notes. Wasn't a problem for me. 1 tip though: study your notes hardcore. The book wont help you at all.
Don't just study the notes he gives you, memorize them. The tests are difficult and if you don't have the notes memorized you will not do well. You need to know everything backwards and forwards. Lecture is bad, most of the time he tells stories which makes the class hard.
My girlfriend and I had him last Fall. We liked his thought provoking lectures and passion for music. I would not listen to the negatives reviews. Those are the people who do not show up to class and expect an easy A. Copy what is on the board and you got it made. The best class and professor at M.C.!
cool guy, interesting lectures and easy tests. only looked at the book twice, no quizzes. tests are easy if you study. Make sure you take his notes in class, that is the test, use it! you'll make an A if you do!
I took his music appreciation years ago and dropped by to say hi and saw how he was doing, he just gets better and better. No wonder his classes are always packed. He has stayed down to earth and humble even with decades of teaching experience. I admire him for that. Thank you man!
One word summarizes Professor Ingersoll's class and it is Spellbinding! He opened the door for me to explore different genres of music. The most compassionate teacher I ever had. Don't miss out taking his music appreciation class.
He gives out study guides with all the info. Straightforward and easy. I loved Ingersoll teaching style and enduring love for music, I just connected each term with the lecture. His analogies are original and easy to memorize. My fave teacher at moorpark.
The best Professor I ever had in my college experience. I will never forget his lectures. His music class has forever changed my life. Thank you Professor Ingersoll.
Professor Ingersoll is an inspiration. Because of him I am going to continue pursuing my music education. His teaching techniques helped me understand and appreciate composers and musicians like never before. Definitely take Ingersoll.
He is the most aggravting teacher. spends 90 percent of the lecture telling stories about himself and the last 10 percent actually about music. He isvery lod so unless you want screaming in your face i would not reccommend sitting in the front or anywhere close. although he did let us out early almost everyday
Like every college class you need to take the time to study but everything you need to know is in your study guides, which saved me a lot of time. He was always available for assistance when I needed the extra help. Very patient and will go over the material step by step. I would for sure take another class with Ingersoll.
An amazing professor and an admirable person. His knowledge is vast and his stories are enlightening.
crazy entertaining
He has turned teaching into an art form. As a student who already loves music I cannot believe how in depth Ingersoll goes in explaining different genres of music with so much energy, passion and creativity. Each class session was completely different. He is hands down the best instructor out there!!! So glad I took him.
A true virtuoso!
I value him and his teaching skills very much. His stories were very inspiring and I've learned a lot about the meaning of music and myself, as well. You will not be disappointed with him. He has a different way of teaching, and at first, you may think it as strange, but he is a good guy. I took his class last semester and enjoyed every minute!
he's a great teacher and very passionate about what he does and about music. but you can only take notes when he lets you which is about 2 mins of the class. you have to read the book, most of the notes he let us take down was about 20% of the test if that. one of the harder classes to study for sense i have no interest in music at all.
He is just awesome! He seems like a crazy person at times, well most of the time, but he is cool! As far as tests go, he goes through each question and tells you what to study one by one. This guy is awesome! Just awesome
Definitely take Ingersoll. I had him for music appreciation, he was the most passionate, knowledgeable, energetic professor I have ever taken at Moorpark. Music fundamentals is pretty easy as long as you attend class. The class handouts are self explanatory and he goes over it step by step. I miss his classes. There is nobody like him. He is Epic!!
To this day I have long lasting memories for the music class I took with Mr Ingersoll. That was 20 years ago
The first day of class literally ended with a standing ovation. He is the best teacher at Moorpark. Take music appreciation with Orbie! It's an easy A and your life will be changed!
He tells the most amazing stories and he is SO CLEAR when it comes to the tests. Easy A if you study a little bit. His class is pretty much mandatory and no cell phone use, but his stories will entertain/scare you. TAKE HIM!
It takes a little while to get used to Orbie, but once you do you will realize what a wonderful teacher he is. He is strict on attendance but the class is super easy and he makes it extremely interesting. He is a brilliant man and truly cares for his students. HIGHLY RECOMMEND.
I am so glad I took Mr. Ingersoll’s class. His class actually changed my life, loved how the lectures connected with the story behind the music. He made me feel the composers pain joy, dreams and any emotion an artist goes through when writing a piece of music. He is not only a brilliant professor but also an awesome man who shared his heart with us.
Orbie is passionate about music. He is also a great performer/story teller. I enjoyed everyone single one of his class! I'll never forget orbie. YOu rock!
This guy is one of my professors out of my four degrees. If you can learn from what he saying, you will benefit in many areas of life. He rocks.
Orbie is one of the most awesome guys you will ever meet. If you argue a lot and don't like facing the fact that you can be wrong, stay away from this class. He will tell it to you straight. He has his opinions and they are there to stay. Personally, I think his teaching method is amazing and I would take another class with him any day. No HW.
I was recomended this teacher and took him because he is easy. To my surprise he has the most interesting lectures I have ever heard because he acts them out. Its hard to explain but the class is easy, and literally you maybe listen to 2 min of music each class. Take Orbie, his lectures will change your life.
Although it has been a long time since i have taken his class i am forever inspired by his love of music and passion for teaching and lecturing. I took his class twice and if i lived there still today i would take it again. Not for everyone but for those who it is will not be disappointed.
His class is easy. Only two tests. He gives out what will be on the test so read your notes before the tests, you will get A.Notes are important. All the answers to the test are on the notes.
Orbie is incredible. He is unlike any human I have ever seen or met. The only person I have ever met that comes close to his' passion for teaching is Professor Kathleen Van Antwerp, in Teaching Ed.)
I think Orbie was a great teacher. He's not super easy, but as long as you write notes and have the book, you should be fine. There are two mandatory concert reports and attendance is mandatory, too. More than 2 and your grade gets knocked off for every time you do it past the limit. Relates real life stories to the lesson. He's great
Great Guy, very entertaining teacher. He tells the best stories you will ever hear. You will never be bored in this class and time flies. As for his teaching methods, they suck. He rarely goes over the material. He goes over the study guide literally two days before the test. If you want a good grade I DON'T recommend him.
The class was amazing! Energetic passionate lectures that I will never forget.Loved every minute of it! wish he taught other subjects. As for the assignments no h.w the lesson plans are on the syllabus no surprises simple. He lays out what will be on the exams no guessing work on my part.I would recommend Mr.Ingersoll to anyone who loves music
After a long wait, I finally got on the wait list to take Orbie's class. He is genuine and passionate in his lectures, and it shows how much he loves to teach. Will help you if you don't understand the key signatures. Don't miss out, he is a music genius.
Orbie is what movies are made about.I first took his music appreciation class in 1982 and i am still using the life lessons he taught me back then.I sat in on his class today with my nephew who is enrolled and once again learned new life lessons at the age of 50!.I consider myself VERY lucky to have been taught by the Greatest teacher,U should Too.
Absolutely LOVED this class! He may have his opinions, but he keeps you engaged & interested! He is a stickler for attendance & making sure your cell phone is off. He also pays attention to who participates in class. Awesome teacher!
Ingersoll Rocks!! I loved his music appreciation class. He goes over the material for the test very thoroughly, he even gave us a clear-cut study guide on what will be on the exam. His teaching methods are epic. He kept my interest going and craving to know how each presentation is going to be about.I will never forget him. He is the absolute best.
Took his 3 hour long lecture class once a week and by far the easiest class I have taken at Moorpark. Very easy grader and got by without the book! His stories are entertaining and if you listen to him can teach you a lot of life lessons. Got As on all tests with studying, my friend got Bs and Cs without, but still bot got an A+.. Take Him!
He's pretty cool. You will definitely have fun! He tells stories that will make you laugh and cry. Don't need the book, just study the notes he gives you and you will get an A.
He is very intimidating- not going to lie! His class consists of life stories and about 10 minutes of music at the end. It is not a traditional lecture and was very interesting and engaging. As long as you take the little notes he says and study them before the test you will get an A! I will always remember his stories and classes.
He is very passionate. Any teacher that inspires and leaves you thinking is a good choice. He is definitely full of himself and set in his ways. After a few weeks I realized his stories are exaggerated. He overcomplicates things with testing and grades, its kind of funny. Had an A until the final.
The class was a breeze, straightforward and easy. He actually let me share my thoughts and ideas. I did not have to be a zombie like my other classes. There was a constant dialogue between the students and the professor. Learned about different styles of music and life. His analogies were very creative. He is very humble, though he is a genius!!
I had Professor Ingersoll's Aural Skills class years ago, and to this day I am thankful for his inspiration, guidance and support throughout my music career. His years of experience as a musician helped me get through the rigorous courses at UCLA. I will forever be grateful. I highly recommend Ingersoll for those who are music majors.
I took Orbie Ingersoll in Summer School. He is one of the best in his fields on Music. I had a desire to learn everything that I could in music. The lectures were incredibly detailed. It was fun and also challenging . I recommend his classes to anybody that appreciates music. You will not find a better Professor that care as much as Orbie.
What an interesting man! Had to take him after finding out my parents had him. Definitely recommend this class. Just like he says, every class you will learn something new, even if it isn't about music lol. Such a great experience. Only a midterm and a final. TAKE HIM
One of the greatest professors I have had in my life. He is very funny, interesting, caring, and great person. The class consists of life stories and listening to music. Tests are easy if you study the notes he gives. Great CLass 1
Professor Ingersoll's Music Appreciation was the best course I had at M.C. Very passionate about teaching and helping us understand the relationship between the arts and music. It was awesome!! He kept my interest with his creativity and unique teaching style. I will never forget Prof. Ingersoll and what he has taught me. Going to miss his class.
DO NOT DOZE OFF IN CLASS OR EVEN PULL OUT YOUR CELLPHONE, he does not like that and will definitely let you know. ALWAYS try to attend any events he suggests outside of class, if you attend and he sees you then he will respect you forever (i.e. he will give you an A in the class)
The only professor I had that actually cared about my progress. Very thorough and explains the class work step by step, he even hands out work sheets that are self explanatory. I wish he taught all the music courses. Would definitely recommend Professor Ingersoll to any music majors.
Loved this class. Easily my favorite Prof at Moorpark College.
Definitely an interesting course. His classes are full of stories and analogies that relate to music and keep the class interesting. He has a very strict attendance policy. If you're spotty with attendance, don't take him. I got A's on the tests and did all assignments, but I got a C because I had the nerve to get a nasty virus. Oh well.
Orbie is unlike MOST any professor I have and most students will ever come across in their academic career (Undergrad). Quite the eccentric lecturer, his class lectures have meaning from the moment he walks into the room. I can see how most people would find his teaching style very abrasive, but if you stick through, it is a very rewarding class.
Lectures are life changing. His teaching methods made me think and see the world with open eyes. It was amazing how he tied real life scenarios with the composer's life and music. I can honestly say I have never seen a professor give so much of himself to a classroom. After a long two years at M.C. I now appreciate Prof. Ingersoll's teaching style.
This was one of the most interesting classes I've ever taken. Orbie is definitely not a traditional professor. Ninety percent of this class is based on his lectures. He tells you EXACTLY what you need to pass the two tests. His class is like a really long, elaborate, dramatic, story telling session.
Amongst the best professors I've ever had in 5 years of college. Don't get me wrong, the guy is very strict and doesn't tolerate people who break his rules, but if you can deal with that then his class is very much worth it. Ingersoll puts his heart and soul into his lectures. I always looked forward to class; never a dull lecture.
Absolutely inspirational. He cared about my progress throughout the semester. His years of teaching, playing the trumpet and conducting was an effective teaching technique in helping me understand the course material. I have so much respect for his passion for music!! I will take his mus 08 class, even though I don't need the credit. The best Prof.
Professor Ingersoll breaks the rating scale. I learned so much of what I know about the workings of music from him. I am now a teacher myself, and Ingersolls is the gold standard to which I aspire. I cannot praise him enough!
A life-changing class and a life-changing professor. He is one of a kind. Take him.
Orbie was so passionate and inspirational! He told many stories about his life and it was so entertaining. He gives you all the questions that will be on the test and tells you what to take notes on. He is really strict about attendance and phones, but other than that he is really chill and one of a kind.
AMAZING teacher, do not use your phone in class and pay attention. He makes the class interesting.... sometimes goes off topic but there is never a dull moment! He is there to help you any way he can. If I had to pick a favorite teacher at Moorpark College it would be Orbie!
This was an awesome class & I always looked forward to his lectures. DO NOT show up late or use your cell phone! Go in with an open mind & be ready to listen to get the most out of his class. Study the study guides for the test & you will pass easily. Can't miss more than 2 classes or will get a C automatically. So glad I took his class.
Made me actually enjoy the class by his passion for music. A must take teacher.
I remember he would look at you during lecture and with his big eye-glasses that magnified his eyes x10, he'd stare deep into your pupils. As I stared back, I thought to myself "my god, this man insane". Powerful lectures, you'll never be the same.
Stunning lectures
This is one of the passionate people I have ever met, inside or out of class. His love for music is very clearly definitive, and he inspires many people with his passion. I never really enjoyed classical music before this class, but I definitely do now. I even listen to classical music outside of class, because his love for music was so contagious.
I graduated from Moorpark in 1999 - A.S. Computer Science. I took two classes that Orbie taught, Music Appreciation and Music Theory. Orbie Ingersoll is an absolute legend! One word describes Orbie: Intense. Lectures and time in class ranged from mellow to days where you left stunned. Behind all the theatrics was a single message: Music is emotion!
The best teacher I had in 21 years of schooling.
I grew up able to read sheet music in 3rd, transcribed music from games to piano, Trumpet (main), Choir Background, Bag Pipes but Orbie taught me that I didn't appreciate music yet. After class, I did. Not just music but Life. He'll teach you the skill of: How to Listen, and that skill will be invaluable for the rest of your Life from 2001
