While the professor is obviously intelligent, she isn't good at explaining. She doesn't give rubrics for the two group projects and she gives an exam every 2-3 weeks. Homeworks are very long. At the very least, the exams and the finals are all taken from the online study guides.
She's inconsistent with grading; if you are her favorite, she will unfairly make sure you get 100% on each assignment to convince you to go into accounting. You can get an A, but you must work hard, especially if you are not a teacher's pet. Over 10 hours of homework each week through Connect, and two projects she will not provide a rubric for.
Prof Orchideh best teacher I had so far. I'm a sophomore pre-business. She makes the course interesting and understandable. There is so much to learn. She connects it to real business world. The course and grading is clear/organized. She is always available, even 3am to help. Her grading style is caring. She accounts for corrections and effort!!
She is my role model, gives confidence for me. She always available outside of class to help. Assignments are online just need to do before due date. She does 4 exams and final to break material down so you don't have to study all 6 chapters for mid-term and all 12 chapters for final. 2 projects relevant help get jobs. She got me internship!!
Sad class ended. Professor Raisdani should teach all our classes. Great learning environment and amazing leader. Does not give easy A or F. Really cares about student success. Grades to recognize if learned the material, with chances to make up where you don't. Some students think breathing should get 4, not at UW. Awesome mentor and A is earned.
There were 5 exams, and lots of homework each night through Connect. She has connections in the business field but is not the best teacher. Her projects were slightly repetitive and took up a lot of class time and were not provided with rubrics, so she will mark you down with a system you didn't know existed. However, lots of EC opportunity.
Take her. Trust me.
One of the most caring and informative professors Ive ever taken a class from. I am NOT a quantitative person and I passed financial accounting with a 3.7 easy. Her lectures are easy to understand, the homework actually helps, I actually learned a TON.
She is the best professor EVER!! The class lectures are really good and she would post them on canvas so we can look back on it. There is a bit of homework BUT they are pretty easy if you look at her slides. The midterms are really really easy if you do the study guide. Her final is basically all of the midterms so keep those!!
This professor will give you an amazing experience if you're pursuing any career!! She cares that you understand the subject and will work with you until you get it. The work can be heavy if you don't put any type of effort. Do homework and understand the concept and you'll do amazing!! I will take her as a professor again!
Excellent teacher, great real world references. Adapts if any difficulty in class. Take home exams, projects, quizzes, really learned a lot from her. She uses Connect and Canvas.
By far one of the best professors I have taken. Your grade will be based off of how much effort you put in she doesn't give easy A's but she also won't allow you to fail.
Really nice professor but I was literally drowning in the massive amount of homework. My problem echos when she fails to teach her students during the two hour lectures
Be prepared for inconsistent teaching and having a massive amount of homework and cases. Instead of teaching relevant material, you will hear rambling of her life. Please take a different professor.
She barely teaches, only focusing on codification and case study, which are not helpful for your homework and exams at all. Over 42 students have registered her class on the first day of the quarter, but only 28 left after two weeks. You have to spend all your time to finish her homework, but learn nothing related to the quizzes and exams
Prof Raisdanai is the best accounting teacher at UW. HW amount is fair, she gives you 3 weeks to do them (4-7 problems)! Quizzes are multiple choice. Case studies/lectures all real world application. I never used the codification till this class. I feel better equipped to be a working accountant when I graduate. She is so supportive. Love her!
Not your usual professor. First professor I had that wasn't textbook easy. She really makes you think, work like a professional. I was so worried I was not ready for the profession but her class was transformational. I wish more Professors taught like her. She is incredibly supportive but you must do your part to succeed.
Professor Raisdanai! This is my 3rd class with her. An amazing teacher! Course is balanced. Tough and easy work. Mostly project group work which helps with learning technology concepts. She keeps us focused on accounting relevance. To do well you must participate, read and engage to do well. She won't let you fail if you have personal problems!
I liked Professor Orchid, and he clearly understands accounting and business. That doesn't make her a good teacher. At all. If learning ANYTHING is more important to you than the most tedious but easy A, then take someone else. Or take her in the Autumn quarter when you still care about school.
this quarter was tough for me and professor o made it bearable. she is the reason I'm staying to graduate. she is an amazing teacher, professional and the work she assigns seems tough but has purpose. you really get it after getting through the learning curve. i have new confidence to be an accountant one day. we need more teachers like her.
Professor Orchid is the best. It is my second class with her. What I learned helped me with my internship interviews and I have an accounting job now for the summer! No more retail! Students who engage & participate will do well in her class & beyond.
Very difficult quarter overall but she supported all of us with long lead times with due dates. Exams were broken out so we have a many chances to improve our grade. She is so approachable with any issue. She let's the class weigh in on milestones and takes our feedback to improve the class experience.
Just got a job as a freshman thanks to Professor orchid. I used my projects we did in her class to apply and in the interviews the questions covered some of the issues in the case studies we did. I felt very confident in what I know about financial accounting and business because of her.
I did not think I would like this class because of the IT part. Professor O did a great job creating a project focused on accounting to solve real business problems for a company and the use of technologies to implement accounting and the required internal controls to improve the business. I actually learned a lot more than I thought I would!
Great teacher period.
Just got a job using the project we did!! Professor Orchideh connects all we learned in accounting with technology and business. She is so supportive and helps build confidence in what we know.
Professor Orchideh best teacher and mentor!
Taking all her classes she teaches. You actually really learn accounting and how to use it in real applications. Accounting is not easy, tedious and broad. She gets what we need to understand and know.
My last class for graduation. Professor encouraged us to attend networking events and helped me with my resume to include what we were learning. I got a job from one of the firms I met. She is awesome. Her classes are working sessions with shorts to the point lectures.
This professor does not mess around. I'm in an internship in ops where I sit in meetings and do analysis for the company's suppliers. I am using the framework I learned from this class. I did not realize how much I learned from her. Thank you Professor Orchideh!
She is legit. I struggled in most classes. I work full time, have a family to take care of. She was understanding and so supportive. She has a 0 fail policy. I thought I was going to fail but the way she balances her grading with demonstration of knowledge not just completing assignments really helped me learn the subject and pass the class.
Had Professor Orchid for financial accounting. She is awesome I took her for managerial accounting. Managerial was hard for me to understand and she met with me to help me through it. We did differential analysis for our final project which covered business decision making. The knowledge and experience made everything we learned click together!
Landed a job based on what I shared I was doing and learning in AIS! Stoked!
Love her! She is supportive, very knowledgeable and cares.
Great professor. You need to do the work to learn though and pay attention in class. Hard for me when I have a full-time job and family. This professor gets this. Doesn't micro manage and is flexible.
I LOVE HER! Literally the sweetest, she honestly cares and will do everything to help you. If you have a question she will answer it and leave you feeling like you can conquer the world. She uses connect and everything is through that. The class is pretty easy to get a good grade in as long as you ask when you aren't sure. Def taking her again!!
This class mostly projects (3), where 2 are independent. All the homework and assignments are on Connect. She is very flexible on assignments and due dates. The only thing I don't like is she doesn't go over example problems, so her lectures are just word which is a bit annoying when there so many applications problem on the homework and assignment
I regretfully took this class over the summer. She's unresponsive to emails and texts, so office hours is the best (only) way to reach her. She can come off as rude at times and can contradict her own words. She grades very late. She changed the assignment/exam weight very last minute, so students were upset that their expected final grade dropped.
She didnt enter final grades in time so now I am in jeopardy of loosing my financial aid. She also doesnt respond to emails or texts. Contradicts herself constantly especially for assignments. Bad professor who cant get her crap together. Now I have to fight to get the financial aid money I earned back because she cant do her job.
Horrible professor! Never responded to emails or texts and she did not put any effort into the class at all. Didnt grade a single assignment until the day after grades were due at the end of quarter. My financial aid was almost revoked because of her lack of effort/professionalism. Should not be a prof anymore!
One of the best professors I have ever had!
Honestly she could make her class better but her only downside is that she is disorganized, doesn't answer emails or questions and her instructions are super unclear. You have to rely heavily on classmates to figure things out. Luckily this class was online for me which made everything a little easier but I wouldn't recommend her.
A lot of Connect chapter work and two main projects that will raise or tank your grade, she is a good professor in terms of understanding the concepts and explaining them but the course content didn't really allow us to utilize the concepts we learned until the two big projects. Could be better but wasn't the worst thing in the world.
My least favorite professor. You will not be able to reach her outside of office hours, never responds to emails or texts. There are 2 big projects in the quarter, and if you do bad on these say goodbye to a good grade. She gives the most vague instructions for these projects, so you will have to figure everything out by yourself. Avoid her... 0/10
In class all she does is read lecture slides to the class which is such a waste of time. Im retaking this class right now and my professor (Murgie Krishnan). I highly recommend this professor 10/10. He expect you do watch the lectures before class which prep you for USEFUL class time where we work on practice problems which preps you for the hw!
she is so random and all over the place, never in class, leaves randomly, no direction and makes NO SENSE. I would give her a 0 if I could, DO NOT TAKE HER.
The class is okay. At times it was really hard but if you're willing to put in the effort it's not so bad. The professor herself is okay, she ignores emails, texts, and isn't great with technology. She's really lazy and isn't clear on directions for assignments. If you can find classmates to work with then you should be okay.
I have a ton of respect for Professor Orchideh. I had a lot of priorities this quarter and she took the time I needed to help me so I can graduate. I do not think everyone knows how much she does for students and what she has accomplished for us. She is a great teacher, direct and total autonomy for how you learn. Wish I had her for other classes!
Took this class winter quarter. Had her for 210 in fall. I'm helping my sibling register in Spring and saw some of the reviews. I have to say that Orchideh is one of the smartest teachers. Everything for class is outlined on Canvas. You have access to everything at beginning of quarter. She helps us in groups to do the work. Just need participate.
Simply a lazy professor who is too busy with other things. Never will respond to email or text, hasn't submitted final grades, skips class, and makes the assistant teach instead. There were 0 directions, your left to figure out so much on your own, due dates are always wrong and changing. Coming from a high achieving student, avoid this professor.
Professor Raisdanai is a very helpful instructor. She responds to email questions in a timely manner which is consistent to other instructors I have. She explains her expectations at the beginning of the term that if you do the work, you will get good grades and she adds plenty of extra credit. Grading is fair and feedback is helpful for learning.
I have had this professor for the past 2 quarters and both quarters had failed to enter in final grades on time, her instructions are confusing for projects and gives little help. She is not organized and every project you get is probably going to ge pushed back. Only good thing is the class was online.
Took both 210/211 with this professor. Agree that she rarely responds to emails and her project instructions are little to no help. She's a great person but as a professor she could def be better. In 211, heavy load in the first month then it gets slow in the following month bc of mainly group projects. Easy grader. Exams were online and were okay.
Misleading reviews from a disgruntled few or ONE? Don't believe it! See the other reviews and ask reliable students. She is busy with all her students, makes time and helps them in and out of the classroom. That's why! Why you trying to reach her outside of class anyways? Shouldn't you be in class asking? Just stop. We see you!
I questioned what I thought I had learned in the program when I started this class. She helped me and others see a total different side of accounting. Everything I learned came back to me where I could really see how accounting is used in business. She pulls it all together in this class in the class project. She is caring and so patient!
More of a lecturer rather than an actual teacher. Most lectures are about herself and her experiences during class and barely goes over mathematical sides of concepts. Class and canvas page is very disorganized, the only grades put in canvas are the grades the TA inputs, so you don't know your grade until the final one is posted to your transcript.
I hated accounting. She made accounting understandable. Her lectures and slides walk you through the problems. Her work examples helps a lot. I would not be in business school without her support. Connect auto grades almost all the assignments. She is super responsive. I think if you want to learn and ask for help she is right there for you.
Not accessible outside of class, never responds to emails, stubborn.
I would like to start of by saying the obvious. AVOID HER AT ALL COSTS. She was absent for 2 weeks straight because of "pneumonia" and when my fellow classmates miss one day of class they lose 10% of their grade. Very interesting professor, she gets her TA to grade projects that he doesn't even know how to do. Do yourself a favor and stay away.
I want to first start off by saying don't listen to all these people saying she is awful. I find her a very good teacher who cares and will help you out and has a lot of real-world experience. There is a group project portion of the class where it is mandatory to show up and it is graded so make sure you do show up and you will be fine.
The class itself is mostly online based with a big group project at the end and its relatively easy, but the professor? Just a genuinely erratic and frustrating human being.
Her schedule for tests and projects became very disorganized and hectic. Project guidelines were unclear at times and tests became different than what was previously stated. Her TA grades and heavy work for everything she is supposed to do. She failed me as a professor, and lacked basic communication to set us up for success. AVOID HER ASAP!
It's been a few days after the deadline and she has not posted final grades yet. She would not respond even after reaching out to ask about when she's planning to finalize the grades.
Absolutely avoid this professor at all costs. She still hasn't graded our final, and BOTH of our projects and the next quarter is starting soon. She doesn't respond to emails, and her lectures are horribly organized. Everything about her and this class are just disorganized in general.
Do you love huge projects with little to no instructions? Do you enjoy having no communication and not receiving grades till the last day of the quarter? Then this teacher is for you! Almost every class she just talks about random stuff like meeting famous people or about her own shops. Not a good learning experience whatsoever.
worst professor ever
Orchideh is by far the worst professor I have ever taken at UW Bothell. Halway through the quarter somone cheated on our midterm so she punished all of us and voided the midterm for everyone which made our final worth double. 10 minutes before the test started, she changed the format again so everything we had studied for no longer mattered.
The class overall is good, do not miss any class! Homework and quizzes are on Connect, there is a group project with presentation and a final on the way.
Terrible. She just changes the syllabus mid quarter! So disorganized and very rude! Don't take her for any classes!
Professor Orchideh is great teacher. I have learned more from her in this class than I have in 1 year of classes at UW Bothell. She takes the time to explain but she doesn't give you the answers. I respect that about her. Everything is organized and laid out. She is way too nice and understanding.
I was nervous about taking this class. I have never worked with technology outside of excel. I really enjoyed this class. The instructor taught this from the accounting perspective which made it easy to understand. She gave me confidence in my knowledge of accounting and helped me apply it to something real. I hope she teaches tax class.
The Professor was great at the start of the quarter, but things started to fall apart after she was gone for two weeks. Tasks for assignments and projects started to change. The final was a trainwreck as it was changed within minutes of walking through the door. Overall there was a lot of confusion that cost people's grades.
I liked her explanations with business experience. I learned why accounting is important to my marketing major and when I start working. There was a lot of work but you got to do a lot of it in class. You definitely have to go to class, ask questions and pay attention. Easy final multiple choice from past quizzes and problems from projects.
Orchid supports students in class and outside of class. Is patient and kind. Assignments clear, all are auto graded except for project and Final part 2. Makes time in class for us to work on assignments so she can be there to answer questions and walk you through the hard ones. She is respected the industry. Mentored me to get a great job.
Professor cares more about her businesses than her own class, forgets to publish assignments, and will not grade anything until the final week. You do not know your grade until the last week but she is a strict grader which is nonsensical. Horribly strict grading and expects you to know everything
Talks about herself way too much and makes her lectures extremely dramatic. Lots of busy work, and she teaches about 5% of each chapter during class. Tells lots of stories about her multiple businesses and her personal success. Does not understand canvas. However, I would take her again only because her grading is very easy.
She is a caring person with alot of experience but she seems to be completely checked out of the class alot of the time and most of the work/teaching is done by videos online. You will not know your grades until the last week and she does not answer questions outside of class. I would take the class again but it can get very stressful.
POV AMAZING teacher, person and business woman. Students survive, succeed because of her support and understanding. Her experiences, connecting news to what we learn made it easy to learn. I'm a student of color and she is an inspiration. Unfortunate she's up against the traditional businessman professional biases from some. We need you professor!
Never received the final exam/project scores even when the class ended. I seriously don't understand how this is fair to students.
I have my internship thanks to Professor Orchideh! Lots of students love her. I took her 210 and 211 courses. I also got into UWB Business School Accounting Program. Had no clue what I was going to major in till her. She is so supportive! She grounds you in real business in her classes and teaching style is to learn and apply what you learned.
Took class Spring 2023 and had internship. I have great respect for time she spent to help me and other students. She runs companies, is active in community and family. I wrote this review because the bad reviews are not true. She is engaging, knowledgeable and accomplished. I'm proud we have her as a Professor and mentor. I learned so much.
It's a senior course and hard if you are not proficient in Excel or self disciplined to learn. Worst part was a few students who didn't show to classes busy abusing the school's resources. Irony was her project was case in point of how to use accounting and technology to stop this from happening in businesses. Great teacher and total professional.
Goes through lecture slides too fast, doesn't show up or allow students into Zoom office hours then blames the students, doesn't post grades until the very end of the quarter, and gives no guidance on the final group project.
Hasn't responded to any of my emails. Avoid this professor at all costs, I feel like they do not care about anything any student has to say. This professor is a perfect example of someone doing the bare minimum to get paid.
Stay away if you care about ur sanity. Class was supposed to by hybrid half online and half in person. we had no in person classes besides midterms and finals, she would inform us a few hours before her in person classes saying she canceling. worst organization ive ever seen for a class both financial and managerial. botted good reviews. stay away!
Terrible communication and grading. Sends information last minute or not at all. A waste of time to even try to communicate with her outside of class. All of her course is via a third party platform. She does very minimal grading and still has not graded any assignments 7 weeks into the quarter. Also gives no direction/info to projects or exams.
HORRIBLE. Do not take her this "hybrid" class is fully online basically. Has never held an in-person in class other than the midterm. Does not provide any help or explanation unreachable outside of class which she never holds. Save yourself and do not take her.
Terrible, this class was supposed to be a hybrid class, in-person Monday online Wednesday but we had no in-person classes. They were canceled either a couple of days before or sometimes on the day of and it was changed to Zoom or just a lecture video. I taught myself all quarter so what am I even paying for? Save your sanity, don't take her class.
Literally forgets to host her online zoom classes (even on days when it's supposed to be in-person) and doesn't tell any of her students so we are all stuck in the waiting room seeing if we have class because she takes attendance. By far the most irresponsible, non-communicative, unhelpful professor I have ever seen. Don't bother emailing her.
Doesn't utilize Canvas or her MH Connect program at all. Runs all assignments through Connect, which is fine, but then never publishes any modules or assignment instructions in Canvas. Literally posts useless announcements non-stop and when you need assignment or direction help, you have to sift through all the posts hunting for any instruction.
Hybrid course that got turnt fully online for many reasons. Felt like I did not learn anything all quarter and it was thanks to super unclear instructions on a week-to-week basis and just an overall poorly structured class. Doesn't grade anything until the end of the quarter.
There were so many times professor would switch up on students like the syllabus, meeting times, etc. There was constant stress with assignments because our class was "hybrid", but we had only gone in person for the midterm/final. She didn't think about her students and expected perfection, but only did whatever she wanted on her own schedule.
This class ruined my winter quarter. I was always on edge with this class, and nothing was ever clear. Projects were posted late and given 1 week for a group project to complete. For those who had a good experience, good for you, but I'm not sure the other 98% can say the same.
They were my favorite professor I have ever had not only at UW Bothell but also CWU. She is so thoughtful and smart!
AMAZING
This professor mainly had terrible communication. No one ever knew if class was going to be in person, on Zoom, or recorded. Also, she took multiple days to respond to emails, she didn't grade anything until the very end of the quarter, and the final project instructions were super confusing.
Definitely a tough class, but unstuck AI was a lifesaver for test prep. The professor's communication was hit-or-miss, but the course material was manageable with the right resources. Overall, a challenging but rewarding experience.
