Not the worst teacher at Cy-Fair College, but among the bottom 10%. Given the other intructors however, he may be the best choice for science credit. Avoid if possible.
Not recommended.
I just started with him. He talks scientifically but he is an excellent teacher.
I strongly recommend this professor.
He is a great teacher and cares a lot for his students.
The best professor I ever had, though I admit that physics is not for me.
He is the best choice to teach science in this college. He knows everything and understands your needs. Very helpful.
Dr. C is the best teacher I ever had. He requires a lot of work but he always finds time to help students. He doesn't like to curve tests. If youb want to succeed, take him!
He doesn't take it easy on you bu he's a very good teacher. It is possible to get an A in his class, but you have to earn it. I was just lazy and now I am struggling for a B.
Mr. Ciftja is cool and knows how to teach. He's superb at getting how physics really works across! TAKE HIM IF YOU CAN!!
He is a nice guy always ready to help you. He is very enthusiastic and this makes the class exciting. He is an outstanding teacher. He helps you with home assignments but he does not give free extra points. If you are lazy go with other teachers.
Fantastic professor. Extremely knowledgeable. Takes the time to help you.
Knows how to teach. The first exam was very difficult. Other exams were easier, but still you must work hard to earn a good grade. If you want to learn stuff go with him.
Excellent teacher but recently began grading hard. Classroom experience makes him better than other teachers.
Generally a good guy. Likes teaching but does not like to give extra credits or bonus points.
Mr. C is extremely helpful and clear. He gives practice problems to help you. If you understand them, you will do all right. Do'nt miss classes since he takes the roll. Take him if you can.
He was not fun. He used words where you couldn't understand. His tests were difficult and everyone failed. Do not take.
He is very well-prepared and knows the material. He is firm but fair. Wonderful experience.
Outstanding teacher. Perhaps the best around here. The class is hard, but this guy knows how to use layman's language to teach difficult concepts. I rate this Professor as top.
The best teacher around. Can explain everything with extreme clarity. Fantastic teacher.
Outstanding teacher! Prof. Ciftja treats his students like individuals. Discussions were always enjoyable, and work load was manageable. His passion for and dedication to teaching is quite inspiring.
One of the most interesting classes I've ever taken. Lots of insight using real examples. You definitely won't feel dread about coming to this class, and you'll do well. Requires work, but it really is worth it. Wonderful person, wonderful teacher.
Strongly recomend. Wonderful teacher.
Dr. Ciftja always gives extremely clear directions, replies to student emails, and gives examples of what your work should look like. He makes class exciting to attend. He is an incredible teacher. He is truly one in a million.
GREAT PROFESOR! Upbeat, enthusiastic, supportive and extremely motivated. Manages to explain the most complex topics in a clear, fun, comprehensive way. His class is challenging but grades are fair.
Prof. Ciftja is a motivating and easy to follow professor. He takes real interest in success of his students. Gives great lectures, always there for extra help. Tests are well prepared for. If you want to do well, don?t miss the class quizzes and practice problems. I would recommend him to everyone.
He is a wonderful man that is full of knowledge. Class is centered on laboratories and lectures. Discussions help to learn more. He's brilliant on explaining science in simple words. I wish every class I took was taught by him.
He is fun and easy going, very kind, willing to help with any questions you have (cares about student's progress). His lectures are clear, interesting, but sometimes with a lot of math.
Extremely helpful. However, this class is hard because he tries to teach us a lot of stuff. Also, there is no extra credit or make up work. He is a fine teacher though.
I had Dr. Ciftja last semester. He is an extra-ordinary teacher.
Wonderful teacher. His great personality and ability to relate to his students make the class very enjoyable.
Great teacher, hard class but he is always helpful and fair.
Very Good instructor. Really knows his stuff. Great classes.
Dr. Ciftja is one of the nicest people you will ever meet. He can lecture, and lecture, and lecture. Be sure you know how to use the equations because you might not practice enough in class. He doesn't take roll every time but there can be a one -question pop quiz at any time. Pay Attention in class! The first test is the hardest!
Dr. Ciftja worked hard with us and taught us a lot. His final exam was not very difficult, but the first one was a bomb. He helped us with practice problems and quizzes. He is an excellent teacher and person.
Class was interesting. He was very easygoing, but you still have to read to get the grade. One exam was very difficult, though he was nice and fair on other assignments. I would recommend him.
His class was a difficult and very challenging class. His high expectations and guidance prepared me professionally for fieldworks. His classes were interesting and hands on. He would assist with assignments when asked for help. He definitely is very knowledgeable in his field. I rate him as an excellent professor.
Dr. Ciftja is definitely my favorite professor, even though I'm not that gung-ho about physics. He is really helpful and always makes sure everyone understands what is going on. He makes his tests based on how everyone does in lecture, according to questions and discussions. Great teacher!
First, print off the PowerPoint slides prior to lecture. Pay attention and take note on everything he says in class, no matter how dumb his little examples might be because the info often appears on the tests. I expect a good grade without even opening my book because everything you need to know is explained clearly in lab or lecture.
Awesome teacher for my introductory class. He was SUPER willing to help all of our class get back on track with assignments when we failed the first exam. I'd definitely recommend him.
We started with him this semester. He is very nice and interesting. Though I am a little bit scared about the first exam, I am learning a lot. Great teacher. Very good at guiding his students to the understanding point.
Very willing to work with students in making sure that they understand Physics and get a decent grade. He understands that people do not live and breathe physics. Take good notes on what he says in lecture and lab as it is often on the test. Very easygoing and funny. I enjoyed taking his class and I am not a fan of physics.
If you fail his first test, think about the course grade you will get. There is NO extra credit, your grade will count exactly on how many grade you got each exam...
Dr. Ciftja is a fantastic person. He loves the job and tries to make your stay here at Lonestar a wonderful experience…
Mr. Ciftja is an awesome teacher. If I had to name all the things that make him great it'd take all day. He is more than willing to help you out and explain physics things if you don't understand them. He is the best teacher I have ever had and will probably ever have. I took him for elementary physics. 100% recommended without a doubt.
Professor Ciftja is very passionate about physics (not that I care that much!). If you are looking to learn something about sciences, his elementary physics class covers a little bit of everything. It's not a very easy class and there is a ton of work but it is worth it. He is an amazing teacher and got me interested.
Great professor but you have to WORK in this class. You have to spend a lot of time with the book and the notes outside of lecture. Pay attention to the lectures which he keeps very interesting.
He is a most interesting teacher and gives engaging lectures. He seems to have a fascinating mind. Very open to being challenged and great at orienting class discussion. The topic is difficult to swallow but he's more than willing to answer questions. Be ready to work hard for the class though, not an easy A.
He’s a "chalk and talk" lecturer, which was great. He gives very extensive and organized lectures. His tests are long, but reflect the examples he puts on the board. He’s straightforward, so just write down everything and study hard.
This class is tough, physics is tough!! Not going to lie! But Prof. Ciftja has a good grasp on the material and is always available to help. Lectures can be a bit complicated, but he makes it exciting and fun! Get all your 'easy' points (quizzes and lab) and there's no way you won't pass.
Very nice professor. Very hard class. Pure, 100% lecture from start to finish. 4 exams and 4-5 small quizzes. No review sheets of any kind. Labs are basically attendance grades. Very hard class because it's up to you to basically read the book for the exams, but Dr. Ciftja really wants you to succeed and will curve when necessary.
Professor Ciftja is a wonderful teacher. He gives a thorough review before each exam. He does not give review sheets, however, we are allowed to bring our own review sheets. I liked more the first exam with fewer questions than the other exams that had 50 questions. He understands the subject and knows how to teach it very well.
He is super nice. He tries his best so you can understand the concept. If you ask him, he will give you the answer. His tests are hard, but if you show your work,he will notice you and he knows that you work hard. I got an A for this class because i show all my work and work hard for the exams and final.
HORRIBLE TEACHER! HORRIBLE CLASS!!!!! I DONT UNDERSTAND WHY THIS TEACHER HAS SUCH GREAT REVIEWS. Maybe it's because we get to use our notes on the test. Honestly what's the point if the the notes we take in class have nothing to do with the test. He rambles about the history of physics but does not teach how to do the equations.
I took this class in fall 2014. Prof. Ciftja is truly inspirational. His tests are difficult but fair. He gives good feedback. Pay attention to the examples he solves in class since his tests involve many of such cases. I strongly recommend him for PHYS 2426.
Please avoid as much as you can. He changed his style of teaching, he can not give you B or A just because other professors do not give high grade. His lecture long but more about history. I like him as a person but will not as professor. His class was the only class I did not get an A. I am straight A students and I still can not handle it.
I wish he could do more example in class. There are a lot of material to study. If you take Dr, Orion class, you have to study by yourself. Get out from physic class. Don't think I actually learn anything. Almost think to stop college just because of Dr. Orion. Be aware, his test are really tough. A lot of people failed from his class
He doesn't provide examples in class to help students comprehend physics. Why can't professors understand that you can't just throw formulas at students and expect them to "crack the code" without knowing the right tactics on how to approach a complex physics problem? He is a nice guy but he is not helpful in understanding physics. Horrible prof.
He doesn't do examples in class which i think is very necessary in a physics class in order to know how to approach a problem. I am used to studying on my own but material in the book that i have to study is nothing like the types of questions he puts on his tests. I used 2 different books and that still didn't help with the problems on his test.
I studied on my own from 2 different text book and I still wasn't prepared for his tests. The problems on the test were difficult and hard to understand. He doesn't show how to logically think through a problem but instead just gives the derived formula and plug and chug which doesn't help when he puts questions on test that u have to think through
He gives no partial credit and your answers must be precise to the second decimal point. The tests were extremely difficult even if he let us use a lot of formula sheets because the nature of the problems were nothing like he addressed in class. I didn't expect him to to problems similar to ones on the test, but expected at least a process to solve
I am taking PHYS2425 for fall 2015. Professor Ciftja gives great lectures and is helping us with practice problems. Exams are not easy, but he does great reviews. He is a nice guy. Pay attentions to examples he solves in class. I find him truly inspirational.
Out of all Physics professors at LoneStar, Dr. Ciftja definitely cares the most about his students and their success in his class. His exams were fair and included many similar problems to the ones in lecture. He definitely makes you work for it though. Prepare to spend up to 3 hours a day on work. Overall awesome prof.
I was not very interested in the subject going into the class but Dr. Ciftja was very passionate and taught me all I needed to know. He is a very nice guy though a little bit strict on the rules. Ask questions since he is always willing to clarify what we should study or listen for. This class is not very difficult if you do the work.
Prof. Ciftja is one of the best physics professors I have had at LSC-- he knows the material front to back, and more importantly, how to convey it to you in whatever way you learn best. He cares so much about his students, and attending class will really pay off here! He gives you lots of opportunities to earn an A in this course.
You have to work for your grade in this class, but it's well worth it. Professor Ciftja is the most engaging professor at Lone Star College. The material is explained in an interesting way and you'll want to do well. I wish that I was able to take more classes with him. He's very caring, considerate and really wants you to learn.
He knows his subject! Though he never says it, he is very passionate about teaching. Lectures are interesting but sometimes it felt like they went on forever. Only three exams and a final. Home-works are not that hard. Quizzes may be tricky, but he usually gives hints if he sees that you are struggling. You will do fine if you work and go to class.
Loved this class! Lectures can be boring but he tries to be funny. PPT slides are online but I found it useful to go to class. Sometimes, he would solve problems for hours and hours or say something not on canvas. Tests were challenging but if you studied and took decent notes, you will be ok.
Ciftja is awesome. He is so kind towards his students and truly wants to see them succeed. There is a good amount of work for this class, but it is totally doable. Class is long, but can be super interesting and fun. I highly recommend both the class and Ciftja as a professor. You will not regret it!
Took him for PHYS2425 on the summer. It went really fast, but you learn a lot. He is a very good professor, take him if you get the chance. He is very enthusiastic about the material. He has had many years of teaching experience and knows how to teach. He really cares about the students.
Prof. Ciftja is awesome, and he's a really likeable guy. His lectures are detailed and the material is actually interesting. The tests are ok, as long as you put in a couple hours of study time and take good notes in class. He's strict about extra points, but you won't even need them if you pay attention to the assignments.
I can honestly say that I have never enjoyed a physics class like this one. Don't expect it's a breeze but it is worth it. Dr. Ciftja is great, he knows his stuff and class time is used to cover difficult theories. He helped us all the time.
Well prepared and does a lot to tailor classes for your needs. Sort of impersonal, but his lectures are very in depth, very clear, very structured. Overall, he is very helpful. Sometimes, he has some really funny sarcastic one-liners that you will never forget.
His lectures are very detailed and very good. He does a very good job of outlining all the major principles of the course. His homework assignments take a long time to complete. Overall, an excellent Prof.
He's an amazing professor since day 1. He is dedicated to his students and the subject he teaches. He makes sure that his students understand and know what will be on the exam. Every class is filled with positivity and makes you feel like you can do it. Exams are difficult but he helps you with practice problems.
The best professor I've had. His class is a lot of work but worth taking! Grades fairly and is never boring.
Interesting, smart, knowledgeable, helpful, curious, funny. An incredible guy with an incredible intellect and insight!
Ciftja is way better than any of the other physics professors. He actually teaches the material as opposed to just talking about it. Has good examples during class which appear again on the homework and then on the test so pay attention and you should get a great grade!
Take him!! He is awesome I loved his class. Lonestar needs more teachers like him...
I received a C only because I did not worked hard. If I hadn't missed classes I would have received a B, at the least. Dr. Ciftja is great, he knows his stuff and class time is used to explain theory. PowerPoints are online and they are useful. You just have to be disciplined for this class and you will do well.
This was probably my least favorite course, but Ciftja made this course one of the best college memories. Truly smart and inspirational. My grade for this class was not necessarily the best, yet I learned a ton from him. Too bad he does not teach more classes.
He is easy to deal with and very helpful. He is a down to earth person and understand student needs. He does a good job teaching and keep students focused on the subject. Nice teacher.
Dr. Ciftja is a brilliant man. He is very passionate about physics and really wants you to do well in the class. There is a lot of work, but it is worth it in the end. He grades hard, but I would not take this class unless he was your professor.
Dr. Ciftja is an excellent teacher. He is helping us a lot this semester.
Dr. Ciftja is helping us a lot this semester. Physics is difficult but he is trying to make it easy to understand. Take this course with him in case you feel physics is not for u.
Dr. Ciftja is helping us a lot this semester. Physics is difficult but he is trying to make it easy to understand. Take this course with him.
He explained the material well so that everyone in the class understood. The quizzes and tests are easy if you put the work in. He is a fair grader and it is possible to get an A in the class. I loved being in his class. I finally understand Physics!
PHYS-2426 is not easy but he is a helpful, clear and enthusiastic professor. He likes to speak a lot in the lectures. He does that because he thinks the first lectures are very difficult and you need help.
Professor Ciftja has a way of making the most dreaded Physics class easy to follow (not always, but most of the time). As a teacher, he predominantly cares about concepts and theory. He will never ask you to memorize complicated mathematical formulae. He respects his students and is nice to talk to.
He is just what you want for this course. His tests are a little bit hard but are what he teaches about. He is all around a good professor. I would definitely recommend him.
Prof. Ciftja is a genius. I thought I knew calculus, however, only he could make sense of it. He understands your level and knows how to teach at that level. Take him.
Horrendous Class. Horrendous Professor. Don't know what these other reviewers are smoking. You will not learn Physics. Everyone in my class cheats on the test. I watch youtube videos of other professors while he teaches. NO PARTIAL CREDIT. NO HOMEWORK. NO HELP. Avoid at all cost if physics means anything in your major. Goodluck.
I think he is a good person and a good teacher. He makes physics easy!
Take this class! It's the best physics class offered and the professor is the most down to earth. He helped us every step of the way and you learn all the physics you need if you transfer that grade to engineering. Win-win situation.
Physics is not designed for slacker. If you study, you will get a good grade. He is not the easiest physics professor, but I hardly understand why anyone received a bad grade. He ALWAYS reviewed before each test and tests ARE BASED on what he reviewed. I got a B by spending an hour per day and glancing at the reviewed material before test day.
I went into engineering physics with a poor background in calculus, but I found Prof. Ciftja's lectures to be crystal clear. If I had any questions about anything (such as test grades or lectures) I could ask him after class. Too bad he does not replace other lame professors in the college.
Useful class. A little fast at times (mostly because the set curriculum is extensive), but the professor is a great teacher. He is also a nice guy who cares about getting his students to learn. He is mostly serious but has a good sense of humor. Highly recommend any class he teaches.
Dr. Ciftja is a cool guy and he reviews everything you need to know on the exams. His class is not easy but I would recommend him.
Dr. Ciftja is very knowledgeable and a good lecturer. Most students learn a lot and enjoy class. The drawback is that the final test can be difficult. Study, and make sure you know your stuff before the final test. You will do well.
He is a nice teacher. He will help you if you need help. Some exams were difficult but he also gave home works to practice. I think he is a good person that want people to succeed. I highly recommend him.
I have nothing against this professor but I wouldn't take him again. He's relaxed but his lectures are hard to understand. If this course is one you not only need but one you also need to master. Don't take him.
Ciftja is a great professor probably one of the best at CF. His class is long but totally worth it. He wants to see his students succeed and is helpful. I wish I could take another class of his.
I took him for College Physics II on Fall 2018. I dont like physics but he's not bad at all. You have to do the homework and come to class. He is available almost always when you need to speak to him (the best time is after labs). He is very fair and goes at great length to explain stuff to you.
Definitely a relief going to his class. He knows the subject and understands the college students. You don't have to show up all the time, but try to as much as possible. Do not to miss labs or quizzes because he does not give makeups. Final exam is cumulative. It was hard for me but my buddy told me he did well.
Hes super chill all the way up to the final. and then the final is all stuff we have not seen before. I did not learn anything but I think i passed so there is that. I would not take him again 1/10 would recommend.
I would take him for any class because he takes his job seriously and provides everyone with the tools they need to succeed. Also, he helps if you are stuck on a concept or a problem. He truly loves his work and it reflects in the classroom. He understands student needs and knows how to slow the pace if you dont get it.
Professor Ciftja truly is a gem. While he is a great lecturer, he also takes time between classes to talk with students, and he devotes tons of hours to review sessions after class. He really wants everyone to do well despite the difficulty of the course.
Physics 2 is a VERY difficult course, and Ciftja was NOT a great lecturer--skipping algebraic steps because they were too "easy". He was unorganized, useless during labs, and would regurgitate the same explanation when someone was confused. The book helped, but was not enough. Find a different instructor if math isn't your forte.
This prof is just bad, I am a valedictorian and I will tell u this. Ever since quarantine started, this class is a mess, 0 teaching, some slides which is useless, and tough test. One answer for each question, no partial credits. Getting a B is easy because chegg can get u there, but an A is very tough. He rejects to show me what I got wrong in test
If you are taking online, and really care about understanding physics, PLEASE DO NOT take him online! I did great in Physics 1, but I have to drop this class because this guy just does not care to teach. He is lazy, dont respond to emails. He just post some Youtube videos lectures that are not his own teaching. tests are different realms.
DO BOT TAKE THIS CLASS! The professor did not teach a THING in this tough class, he didn't set up the labs so all we had to do was to watch YouTube videos on the experiments. He just posts Youtube videos, doesn't respond to mails, doesnt let you know what you got wrong, and gives tough tests, I do not know of his merits.
Online physics class was terrible. You would think at first that it's the usual class- one question quizzes, easy labs, simple homework. However, the 3 exams and final exam are NOTHING like the other work! These are real exams, and you need a thorough understanding of the subject. No way will you be prepared- he only sends Youtube videos as lecture
If you're taking this professor online over summer, STOP. He takes FOREVER to reply to emails, does not provide clear guidelines on how to round answers for tests and homework, and is VERY hard to contact. He posts powerpoints that are basically small portions from the textbook that are not helpful at all.
This online class is not very difficult, but you have to do your part. Labs are straightforward and there is ample time to return the assignments. Overall, it was a pleasant experience.
So picky on exam answers. No partial credit whatsoever.
Ciftja sets all homework, quizzes, and even exams in an assignment documents. He allows students to submit them anytime before they are due each and every week on Friday midnight, except for his final exam due in the final week on Wednesday from 6:00 P.M. to 10:00 P.M. Man was not really so bad after all. He's a cool guy.
