Good teacher. The tests reflects the review questions and materials taught in class. Just found her exams much too long!!!!!And harder than the tests. OVerall pretty good!
If her teaching ability was likened to martial arts, she wouldn't be able to fight her way out of a garden party full of old ladies. I had to teach myself how to do everything.
She is great!!! Stats with her is fun.
She is great. Very helpful and eager to teach those who need the help. If you go to class, take good notes and use her reviews you dont even need the text. It will just confuse you. Highly recommend her for this course.
she is the best in the world man she rocks & shes so bestiful god i love her u will hav the most funnest time wif her shes really kool yeh well shes the best person ive ever met!!!!!!!
She is very helpfull and is a nice lady, BUT she needs to work on her presentation style. I was mostly confused by her lectures sometimes. SO if you have her, make sure you do the work and AS A LOT OF QUESTIONS
One of the best professors for QMS102 in my opinion :)
She is a good, nice professor. Her tests are fair but they reflect the textbook alot.Study both the textbook notes&her own notes. She should use powerpoint slides, her notes can be confusing to follow esp the graphs.Emphasize critical values too much!
Unless you are prepared to invest tons of time Learning the text & SPSS/assignments ON YOUR OWN, switch to prof. Djabatey...He is the best!. Prof. Hegarty is nice, but Lectures are hard to follow, She rambles a lot, gives unclear explanations and gives little help with SPSS. You are on your own!!!
I don't no y she has such a good rating, her lectures r so confusing anshe writes like an animal.Sheactually believes that she prepares u well4 thetests butshe doesn't atallcus da thepractices tests r 100 times easiar thenwut we have2 actuallywrite,in class she focuses on da calc butda tests r theory
Awful teacher... Absolutely awful.. worst teacher i have ever had
Great Prof. If you take good notes and listen to her lectures you will do well in her class. She is very helpful and wants her students to do well.
She knows her stuff but still needs to learn how to clearly articulate this to the class. Her teaching style was difficult to follow and it was obvious the class was having a tough time with her.
She's a very nice prof, and wants the best for her students, the only thing is she's not good at explaining things and her notes are very confusing so your pretty much learning from the text. So if u don't mind learning on your own then go with her.
I HATE HER I HATE HER I HATE HER. I did so well in 102... took the class and only now realized that she rated herself on this site. Unless you want to learn the course on your own, DON'T TAKE THIS CLASS WITH HER!
Do yourself a favor: switch to Prof.Djabatey's class. Mrs. Hegarty will ruin your GPA. Do not take her class unless it's the only course you have. Her assignments/tests/exam are 3 to 4 times more difficult than that of other classes. She thinks you want to be an statician...goes well beyond the text
Do not be fooled be her nice demeanor. Definitely a wolf in sheep's skin. I have attended classes in the other sections, talked to students and professors, and I have confirmed that their tests and assingments are way less demanding. It is definitely not a leveled playing field...cruel and unfair!!!
I think there is no problem with Orla, the fact of the matter is if you invest time into a course you will reap the benefits. Orla can tend to explain MORE than necessary but she wants students to understand how these formulas really work. AND THIS IS NOT LEFT BY HER!! LOL

She is a very difficult marker and makes assignments very long and complicated. She is very confusing and most of the time you have no idea what she is talking about. I would not recommend her.
Very Bad Teacher, She never emailed me back, was always pushing deadlines back and making excuses for not returning assignments back to the students. She ushered CESAR out of class when it was time to evaluate her…they never came back. Bad Bad Bad
Does anyone understand her? What language does she talk? I'm confused! Bad teaching.
This class was a challenge but pretty straight forward. I don't think her test were to hard because when I looked up other universities stats tests to study with they were beyond me. I think that Rye High has pretty low standards compared to other Universities.
Orla, I think that when you put examples on the slides, it would help us to understand the material better if u also include the solutions to them...instead of just putting a bunch of formulas and questions on the slides because that does not help us understand the material.
My only complaint would be that Orla spent'TOO MUCH' time in class trying to assist people who clearly hadn't held up their end of the academic bargain. If you do the work in this type of course (with open book testing) there is no reason to not acheive a decent mark. I easily finished with an A+.
Very confusing. When she tried to clarify something I was confused about she just made me even more confused. Bad decision taking her class.
not bad, not great, she thinks ppl actually care about stats.
appeared to be very understanding and nice. however, the projects are ridiculously alot of work for a measly 5%. midterms were relatively easy but the final was a killer. 50% of it was based on SPSS ouput that was very vaguely taught in class. she rushed in the end. good person but horrible prof.
I heared she is a bad prof and that was just confirmed. DO NOT TAKE HER CLASS! She is the most confusing person ever. Tries to clarify things, but makes it worse.
The problem is letting the prof teach you, in this class, teach yourself how to use the calculator and you can't go wrong. I didn't show up for one lecture and got a B- which means I proved Orla's STATISTICS to be wrong.
She is a good prof. Her marking is easy.
Orla is one of the greatest teachers ever. She makes the class interesting with comic strips that are shown at the beginning of each and every lecture. She helps out students as soon as they ask. Her mid-terms are just comprised of routine questions, which allows students to build up their confidence for the final exam. She rules.
Orla is great, she gives individual attension to those who need extra's, she gives past practice test papers which makes it easier for us to study and wht to expect in the test or exam, although i do agree that the assignments worth 5% was quite heavy and should have weighted atleast 10 or 15%, overall she is a good compared to other stat prof
Mrs. Hegarty is a helpful professor who makes the course relevant for a business student. I actually found the material interesting and important. While the assignments only represent 10% of your final grade, completion of the assignment will greatly assist you in learning the material and reading the appropriate output. Overall, good professor!
I went from a C- in 102 to an A in 202. Orla was an excellent prof. There are no surprises on her tests and what she teaches is what she tests. It was wonderful to have a math professor who actually speaks clearly and with enthusiasm. In addition, she actually made statistics interesting!! Stick with Orla.
hottie

Knowledgeable, personable and fair instructor. Is strict, but is willing to help. Excellent stats teacher!
A fair marker, efficient and effective in teaching. I can hardly ask for much more. I think the assignments are well proportioned and greatly assisted in my understanding of the material. She's definately one of the more professional professors I've met at Ryerson.
I listened to her lectures since day school teacher was talking as if people had done stats like him, that is for 30 years. Couldn't understand concepts in day school, Orla does a great job at explaining. Slides are very helpful. Cannot speak about testing. A lot of help with assignments. Overall, you want to have her, you learn lots.
hot prof.. found her lectures kinda confusing. to do well in her class u have to practise her review exams and if possible the review questions at the end of each chapter.if you dont understand the concept u wont pass this course. the first midterm is the easiest.if you do well in her first midterm, it gets easier for students who just wanna pass.
tests were hard , just make sure u have midterms from the previous yrs , they help a lot in this course. Practise the reviews and examples from the gerenic site and you should be able to get a B in this course.

Teached Programming for 17 Years!!!
Slides r useless as she doesnt post answers on them practice past exams and you will be set class examples and exam practice questions are easier then on the tests...assignment too much work...final is all SPSS
This prof is a rip off. She doesn't kno how to teach, her slides r full of cartoons & nonsense. Her slides don't give calculator formulas but formulas u can find in the book urself. She goes on & on about herself & about how she gets u need to pass instead of teaching wut u need to kno and leave. She has takes 4 hrs in a lesson dat takes 2hrs max.
her exams are lengthy so be prepared to stay the whole time assigned for the papers. too many cartoons and less hints. so up to you for choosing a prof.
Stats is a hard course, but if you study and go to all her classes you will walk out with a decent mark. She was a fair marker, worked to ur advantage. I do recommend her for stats.
I really dont know what you guys are talking about. Im in her class now, and I find her to be a very good prof. Adding a few cartoons only adds somethign different to the class. And you need that in Stats. I was almost not going to take her bcz of the comments on this site. Im glad I didnt listen. She shows you how to do the...
Let's keep this short and simple, YOUR F... in that class. Again like the others said her ppt slides useless, teaching total crap, she gets mad at you when you ask her questions, her practice tests are practically useless cuz their easier than her actual tests and don't expect her to help you through email cuz she doesn't answer them.
As a person, she seemed nice? As a prof shes horrible. Can't teach, powerpoints are useless. Exam was ridiculous. She does work in ur advantage when calculating ur final mark (or so she says). Makes easy concepts seem hard, focuses on irrelivant concepts. Anyone who says shes a good prof is on crack.
I found her very helpful, she explained things very well; I'm not good with math or stats, but while taking the course, I actually got to like these things. I liked her.
She's a great prof! The best Quantitative Prof. I've had. These courses require work, but if you do your work you'll be fine. Her tests are what she teaches. She doesn't throw any curve balls, I totally recommend her! Best QMS prof Ryerson has!
Not sure what all of this uncalled for beef is but she is EASILY the BEST STATS PROF at Ryerson! When you got low life fools like Don Tavares (one of the many horrible stats profs at Rye) WANTING YOU TO FAIL, Orla is way better. Stats isn't one of my strengths but I got an A+ with her cause' she posts past tests. Highly recommended for a good mark!
Excellent professor ... highly reccommended
Excellent prof. I claire for stats 1 and studied my butt off to get a C...with Orla, I just listened and ended up with an A+...sweet. Very helpfull before and after class. 2 midterms are easy, final is reasonable. highly recommended.
The best stats teacher ever! she is very helpful and made stats easier and user friendly with previous tests. Def a #1 choice for stats 2. Btw the txt book is useless so be careful her notes are much more helpful so make sure you go to class.
This prof does not have any idea on how to teach. She is never confident in her answers, and for good reason, cause she's wrong most of the time. I had a 93 in stats 1, and I don't expect anything higher then a 60, or even pass stats 2. It's not because the material is that different or difficult, it's because she doesn't follow the book!
She's great! Do all the required homework, do all the practice exams and attend all classes and you're guaranteed a good grade.
I would suggest to her maybe taking some time and stating what the p-test shows, what the F-test shows etc. To clarify, I figured out we use the F-test in regression because it shows the variability around our model line; this would have helped me "put it all together". But overall, excellent experience.
I thought she was great. I went to class about half the time and I still came out with a good grade. She posts all the practice tests and in the lectures I attended i thought she was very helpful. And no, she does not follow the textbook, because the textbook is TERRIBLE!!! half of the answers are wrong..similar to doug mckessock's review solutions
Amazing prof! She explains and goes through everything in class.Everything she teaches is everything you need to know to do well in her class. She's clear and consice unlike other profs that teach this course. TAKE HER CLASS, YOU WONT BE DISAPPOINTED =)
Amazing Professor, once you recognize how statistics is supposed to work you will ace the course. The text is useless...like another blubbering in another language. Attend every class, ace the bonuses and the project and you'll end up with an A. I did the project individually compared to with a group.
as long as you show up to class prepared, she makes it sooo much easier than you will get with chua
Best qms 202 prof ever !!! makes everything easy to understand and very helpful :D . Loved being in her class.
Great Prof! I hated Stats n never would have thought that I could get an A. Still don't know how. Attendence is important as she gives bonuses if u attend class. Review class b4 exam was very helpful!
This is one of the best proffs to take stats with. Whoever complained about her didnt bother going to class and do the readings. Her exams are based on her lectures and she provides you with older exams to practise on.She's very helpful and therefore highly recommended for this course!
She is a good professor but she is very discriminant. She admits and she agrees to give her Saturday class a better grade and mark them easier since they are losing their saturday. That is unfair and justice should be served. What about the thursday night class??.. we work/evening classes! this professor has no sympathy what so ever. Stay away
Good Prof
she is well intentioned. But man her lectures as extremely boring, it was difficulty for me to understand her explanations. And for some odd reason i found her really difficult!...i really wouldnt recommend her, take Don Tavares...
I can say with honesty-the negative ratings are from people who probably didn't come to class when Orla showed (on the projector) HOW TO USE the green calculator! The course is a bit confusing, but she tries her best to simplify it! I wouldn't pay attention to the negative ratings. Those ppl don't know what difficult profs are->Shapiro anyone?
she is a good proff, i would recommend her, after the final exam she actually boosts ur mark alot. she tries to help as much as possible, you have to make sure you do all the practice problems tho! i went into the exam with a C+....i came out with an A!!!
The course is a very useful and interesting course. The professor is late 90% of the time, she is almost never prepared - if she is prepared her answers to questions are almost never correct. Going to class is not necessary because you will spend 2 hours covering an average of 3 questions. I did well by sticking to the book and ignoring her.
She is so nice and helpful always! it is a difficult class, but she tries her best to help her students :) c'mon which prof boots upp the marks after finals?? she was awesome - Thanks Orla!
Terrible teacher! Doesn't know how to explain her teachings and assumes that we understand it... If you have her as a teacher switch to a different teacher like Tavares <- Best teacher ever
The WORST professor in the universe.Doesn't have any idea of what she is talking about.Explains things with formulas as if it is a Calculus course in Mathematics program.Very unclear, doesn't respond to emails, doesn't answer questions.Totally useless.Never take a class with her!
Very clear in explaining and knows her stuff. Hard marker I must say! so its a decision btwn hard marking vs good prof but you will know your stuff when ur done with the course coz she's so brilliant. Also humorous and has life in her, able to relate to students and uses good real-life examples
One word to describe Orla: FANTASTIC! She's so educated in the subjet matter that she teaches without the aid of any materials. Those of you who are slamming her must be the ones who never attended lecture and/or had no interest in the course. Stop whining and admit that she is one of Ryerson's BEST.
Terrible prof! All she did was read power point slides out loud to the class. The only reason I got through the class was because I'm good at math and I taught myself using the textbook, which is very stressful. She assigned problems but never took them up so you would have no clue if you were doing them right or not.
Orla is a very nice prof! QMS 522 (Linear Algebra) was a breeze. But this was mostly attributed to the textbook. It's called "Elementary Linear Algebra" by Spence, Insel and Friedberg. Very good book but not sure if its still used. This course is a lot easier than the math department one so you should be able to pull off a decent mark.
HMM shes not a good professor... shes a nice lady but so boring, she just sits and reads powerpoint, though i think she raised marks.. Basically you gotta teach yourself, this was my second time taking stats.. so i already knew... but anyone taking her for the first time.. be prepared to be challenged
I went into the exam with such a low mark and ended up gettting a B- in her class. Very helpfull when it comes to raising marks :)
This teacher is useless - talks about things that are not related to the course such as how much she loves Ireland, how she hasn't watched TV since 1981..how much she loves Guinness Beer! She absolutely has no interest in teaching the course.. always looks bored and makes so many mistakes, you'd lose count. I'd rather kill myself then take Orla
Orla's a bit confusing, but she does provide clarity if you need it. This course is not hard. I got an A-. Do the assigned homework and look up the solutins and you should do well. Only go to class if you need clarity with the material. If you haven't read the chapter b4 hand don't bother going to class cause she will confuse you!
Awesome prof, she is fun and shows interest in the class and the material that she teaches. She seems like she genuinely wants everyone to succeed, and provides extra tools to help
Hey guys I just want to say that Orla is a great teacher and she wants her students to succeed but her way of explaining things is really odd. But i ended up with a B+ in this course after I got 50% on the midterm. Orla really helps in boosting your marks up
THE BEST Stats teacher ever!
Unfortunately she can not teach statistics very well, maybe she 'l do better in a biz class. When she calculates she looses herself in confusion, embarrassing! Watch your test scripts when she returns it, she makes MANY mistakes and her excuse was I was tired towards the end and most have marked your paper amongst the last!!
The fact remains that she is at times to unclear and often skips steps important information when teaching. Moreover on a mid term i lost 10% due to semantics on her part of putting "not neccesary" and her word "not meaning full" even though the rest was correct. Lastly, she keeps uses different variables for the same statistical value.
I liked Orla. I only have 2 comments that are somewhat negative: 1)please stay on the lecture material, I am not paying to hear what you think of the political stance on the world or Ryerson, this is NOT a poli-sci class, 2) please be a bit more clear when explaining HOW to imput data into the stats calculator, as I got lost, otherwise->great prof!
The fact that she knows her stuff inside and out make it her downfall as well. The first couple of classes were good (I was understanding), but then the last couple prior to dropping (it) were completely outta this world! I was totally lost and couldn't recover (failed a quiz), so I ended up dropping it.
DO all of the questions in the problem sets....
