Great teacher. Read ahead in the book and you will be fine. Is a great help, does a lot of examples.
Super fast with the subject matter. She slowed down the pace and then did a review and we were STILL AHEAD OF ALL THE OTHER CH101 CLASSES. Not prepared for class. There was a question from HER NOTES that she wasn't able to do during lecture!!! You can read ahead all you want in the book, you'll still have a hard time in her class.

NEVER take her class unless u want to have a D on your transcript. Very stingy with points, Super fast and corky. She say one thing today and another tomorrow. I regretted why i ever took her class. If there is no other teacher at Rockville for CH101, please take a class at another MC campus instead of taking her class.
At the begining of summer II we were 26 but inly 12 were able to complete her course. Therest droped or changed professor. She is super fast, very tough grader and gives works sheets, quizz every class. She realized she was loosing all her students and adjusted a little bit but , still, it didn't make much of a difference.
PLEASE do take her course. I hate to curse a teacher but , boy i couldn't hellp but curse her after the coursee was over(on my way home). I would never encourage any one to take her class. NEVER!
Highly recommended chemistry teacher. She explained clearly and stated important notes. Lotsa homework and quizzes,but,very helpful. To those who work hard and obsess with chemistry, she's the one. always available for us.
GREAT professor! She does everything she can to help students succeed in her class. You MUST be willing to work hard and devote time to the class. She truly cares about her students and loves to teach. There were never any surprises on exams and uses helpful analogies when teaching difficult material. Wish she taught every chem class at MC!
Reading ahead was very hard since she taught from different chpts, we were learning things that the other classes hadn't even gotten close to yet!Most students were lost..few got A's on her tests.Teaches very fast. Dont take HER class if you have never taken chem or if chem doesn't come easy to you!
Absolutely amazing teacher. She's helped me so much with catching up and understanding chemistry. Her explanations are perfectly clear. She is extremely friendly and is always willing to help anyone.
Not nearly as bad as what many of the older reviews here would have you believe. In fact not bad at all. Kind of heavy on assignments (not hard just a lot of them), and WAY heavy on handouts (good thing MC has free printing). All in all though she does quite well, and is very caring. Definitely not the worst option for 101 by a long shot.
OKAY, she is the worst CH100A teacher at MC.She expects so much from students for a basic chem class. There were a couple students in class who have never taken chem in HS and could not follow her and eventually had to drop the class. I even took a CH101 higher level class at UMBC and it was not nearly as hard as Kutai's ch100.Horrible experienc
She is ridiculous at assigning hw. She assigned a hw problem that nobody knew how to do and we asked her to do it on the overhead; she was struggling with it and could not solve it so she started making up numbers so we couldn't follow her.She will give HARD quizzes and will trick you with problems you have never seen before and tests are easy.

I will stand by Prof Kutai! I learned SO MUCH with her that I skipped 102 and went right to Orgo. We got off to a rocky start: she can be a bit of a spaz, and she sometimes makes easy concepts unclear, but she gives out great note packets on each chapter, making the text unnecessary. She really really cares. Practice tests = easy A if you try.
Chemistry at MC is not easy. That being said I recommend you take Chem with Dr. Kutai. She puts in alot of effort for her students and as long as your effort approaches hers you will do well in the class.
This class makes you lose hope in getting a good grade in chemistry, or any science class to be exact. The amount of work she requires makes it seem like she does not think her students are taking any other classes. I DO NOT recommend anyone to take her class unless they are taking nothing else but her class.

The worst teacher in my three years at college. I highly recommend you to not take her! Everyone I have talked to about her class have said she's not good at teaching. She might as well get a new job, no joke.
I warn students who don't have much knowledge with Chem, don't take her class! She almost made me end up taking meds and think about changing my career. The worst experience ever... I guarantee you will have nightmares if you take her class. I really hope MC gets more better professors for Chemistry.
Great professor! definitely knows her stuff and is willing to help you to truly understand the concepts. fair tests. BUT, you must earn every point of your grade. no extra credit. there is no way you will get a B or A if you don't do your work. And online hw is a biggie for her, which takes alot of time. she's energetic and loves what she does!

Extremely helpful outside class. If you have problems with chemistry before coming to class, i wouldn't recommend her. but if chem is your subject she is the person. she tends to go a little fast so that at the end of the sem u have time for revision n stuff. shes really helpful outside class with the worksheet and skeleton notes!
Don't take her.Her notes and lectures are not clear.There is a graded homework online which takes much of your time. If you want to pass CH101 take another teacher. If other teachers lectures are full, it worth not takeing chem for the semester rather than being in her class.She is the worst grader. I dropped her class with a W.
She seems like a good person but not a great teacher. Her homework assignments are ridiculously long and time consuming. She moves fast and expects you to know the material almost as well as she does before she teaches it. If chemistry is your strength she will love you because she definately picks favorites but otherwise, take another professor.
Shes a great teacher if you want her to be. shes of great help outside class, not so much inside. take full use of discussion time and take down notes. alot of paying attention and an A is almost guaranteed!

This woman is something that rhymes with "itch". Do not take her, you HAVE been Warned. She doesn't explain anything, she doesn't teach!, she acts like she's not being payed for it!!! She assigns online HW, Tests, and Quizzes. And if she expects superior quality then she should give no less than that. She blows.

Not a horrible teacher, just didn't teach. Knows her material but we basically had to learn everything ourselves. Be prepared to read every page of every chapter thoroughly, do all homework assignments, and check Blackboard constantly. Not a hard class if you are able to learn things yourself efficiently. STUDY GROUPS ARE HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.
Only sign up for this class if you like learning things yourself. I dont get the point of coming to class, because she doesnt teach at all. She expects us to learn from other students. And I'm sure not everyone is a genius in the class, so it would be more helpful if she tought us. I work my ass of for this class.
She's super friendly, and is obviously very smart, but completely sucks at conveying her knowledge to the students. She makes even the most basic of operations very convoluted, and forget it once you get into the tricky stuff. She gives out more hw in a 4 credit course than 12 credits of other courses from other teachers. Her exams are VERY tough.
Let me say this. If you like chemistry you wont have a problem. BUT if you someone that needs chem. , don't take this class. You will have to learn everything yourselve, she is not helpful at all. Her tests are hard as hell. Everytime she tries to explain something, it gets worse. She is smart, but her teaching skills are questionable
Terrible terrible terrible. Cannot teach, is stubborn and unwilling to recieve feedback from her class. Most people dropped out the first few weeks. If you are taking Chem here, make sure you take a class with one of the Chem dept. heads.

I was shocked at what an insensitive and unhelpful teacher she was. She did not want to take extra time with the students, and in fact told me that I would fail the class. Because of my course load I ended up auditing, but thank god I did. DO NOT TAKE HER!

She knows the material very well, but I just don't think she should be teaching Chemistry 101 because she will talk to you as if you are already a chemist. If you take this class, make sure you know the material and be ready to work hard.
VERY GOOD TEACHER she can be a bit high strung or make you feel dumb sometimes but she gives you all the tools you need to succeed granted its a VERY Hard class but the help she gives through study resources is amazing! and her exams are fair an reasonable with what we learned shewants u2 succeed the only complaint I have is she can talk fast
She saves you $$$$$ by using a pretty cool online INTERACTIVE textbook. Granted it takes a lot of time and can be stressful trying to get it all done by deadlines because she grades you on it but it is the way to go in terms of learning the material
Taking her for lab was the biggest mistake. She will not let you complete labs which will make you get Es on your labs if you don't do all of her stress filled assignments on time. Lab with her was actually more work then my lecture class. She takes off points for little things. She is good at teaching but I really think she enjoys failing students
She is smart, very organized, and helpful, but she is very strict and hard. She is very hard when she grades. If you take her class, chances are you will fail or withdraw out of the class. Because she makes Chemistry extremely hard!

She is very fast paced and will leave you behind but if you read the chapters and do the exercises before hand you'll do fine. Chemistry is a give and take class, so if you work hard you will understand the material and this professor always answers questions and adapts to her students very well.
Professor Kutai was very helpful. Lots of material and lots of work but worth it. She's great.

Take her if you love Chemistry because she is a tough grader. She does an okay job teaching, but you have to put a lot of work to pass her class because sometimes she slacks in her lectures.

A nice lady as a person, but I will say this once and once only: IF you have another option to take any chemistry course with practically any other professor, then do so please, for your sake and the sake of your kids. Avoid her unless you are willing to work your butt off and attempt to get a B. Almost guaranteed to drop because she can't teach.

She's the perfect example of "tough, but fair." If you try and keep up with the work she will sit with you for hours to explain things. She notices who tries and who doesn't care. Her grading is very precise and just wants to make sure she produces great students. Very engaging and, again, if you put the effort in, she will put twice as much in you
She's a nice person but not the best chemistry teacher. Her lessons are a bit confusing because it does not match the online assignments. Also you MUST have all assignments printed prior to class. She will not print and hand out the classwork sheets to you. She assigns a lot of work and it's difficult keeping up with it while taking other classes.

She's a nice person. She is a tough grader (very picky on labs) and doesn't really explain why you got points off sometimes for your lab assignments. I would suggest going to her andor going to her study sessions before they are due for every lab to get a good grade in the overall lab. Final exam is hard so study early.
She is harder than most community college teachers, but not harder than what I've taken at a major university before, so she's great for preparing you for higher level chem. Would not recommend for people trying to clear up a science requirement. Tough but fair, will help you if you help yourself and you ask. You will need to study a lot.
This is an easy class to me. I can get an A on this. But I feel like she makes so many requirements. Its wasting time if you already have a heavy workload. Wont recommend. This is Chem-131 pls relax lol.

Nice professor but not the best at teaching. She grades really hard, doesn't really help on labs. You're pretty much on your own. She is very picky and takes off points for almost anything. I would take someone else honestly. Not the best professor and might get you irritated throughout the course.
I wouldn't take her class again if I knew about this professor. This should be an easy lab and she makes it difficult. Seems like she wants you to make mistakes and points off. Not very helpful with labs and her tests are unfair. She takes points of for the smaller things. If given the chance, I could have switch professors
Honestly, this professor seriously makes me wanna consider changing my major. I understand that lab work should be strict and perfect, but you are a professor, not a supervisor. You are meant to help and advise how things are done, not sit back and let them scramble around. Toughest professor I've had, probably the last time i ever wanna take her.
Don't take her lab. whether you're good at chemistry or not she was very strict on what she wanted but did not clarify what she wanted and then took points off of every little mistake. Not forgiving on lab assignments. Even after countless hours spent on labs she always managed to find points to take off. Not helpful when you ask for help either.

She is a very tough grader. Her exams are the worst designed. Her final was the worst exam I have ever had. Chemistry involved with lot of calculations, 2 hour exam was not enough to finish it. She designs her exam you are like chemists or scientists. That is not normal teachers design their tests or exam to check basic understanding and principles

Everything said here is very true. She is very tough. Labs are terrible. In labs: you are desserted because she does not teach you how to do anything. Pros: helpful, clear, will prepare for the future in the amount of work. Cons: tough grader, heavy course load, must study to the core to even get a C. if you know no chem knowledge, avoid her.
I love Dr. Kutai. She is very enthusiastic and helpful. I got to her help sessions for extra questions and help with homework. The workload is heavy but it is worth it because it makes you really understand the topics.
Great professor. I learned a ton in her class. Not an easy A, but if u work, ull gain. Shes always available, answers emails quickly. Really nice person. Very strict, but she's a very sweet and nice person. Ppl hate on her b/c they dont like chemistry. For those who do, taking her is worthwhile in the long run
Chem is hard, no matter what teacher you pick. So much homework! If you don't read over the material & practice problems, I guarantee you are going to fail. No quizzes, but plenty exams. I practiced for at least 1-2 hours EVERY DAY! Then the exam comes and I get a D. Exam questions are foreign to what she teaches. No extra credit. Do not take her!!
Professor changes her mind without telling the class, fails to motivate. You will succeed in this class if you work really hard, professor doesn't help much. I felt like I was self-educating myself most of the time. Great person, not a great teacher. Take her class if you can read people's minds.
You attend college to overcome yourself. If you are looking for a teacher who will give you an easy B she is not the one. She makes you work hard in class and in lab. Her exams are pretty tough but not impossible. My grade is what it is because I did not put enough effort into it.
Professor's exams are hard even if you do the extra problems. The answers are not given most of the time so it is hard to check your work. There is a lot of work but if you ask questions she will explain again and also accessible in office hours.

Her exams only get harder as the semester progresses. She does not curve the exams even if the highest grade would be like a B. Only did one extra credit assignment (project). Her lectures are decent but she most definitely will make you work for your grade. Recommend taking her only if you're up for the challenge. Good luck :)

taken over the summer. I expected this class to be accelerated as most summer classes are. She assigned a ridiculous amount of work the first day and eventually assigned less and completely unassigned all homework assignments AFTER we all paid for it. Lectures were not helpful and and extremely tough grader. exams are so hard& many feared failure
I took a chemistry summer course with Kutai and we started with 32 students. I dropped halfway through the course with 12 students left in the class. She assigned an unbelievable amount of homework each night on top of pre-labs and lab reports. I can confidently say that she is the worst professor I have ever had in all of my days in school.

I took her in the Fall 2018 semester and had to drop her Chem 132 classes. She is horrible. She is sometimes nice. When she gets to tests she is mean. She assigns a lot of hw. She is one of the worsts professors at MC.
She is very caring always available for office hours. If you want an A, then you need to go to office hours. She is a great teacher but tough grader. I took her for gen-chem 1 & 2. I am a pre-med student and just started studying for the MCAT. The gen-chem MCAT stuff is EASY for me in comparison because she made me truly learn and understand it.
She's a very tough grader, I would never recommend her to anyone and will never ever take her class again. She has mood swings, and she can be very cheeky sometimes. She's occasionally nice but for the most part she's not. I really disliked her, she made me hate chemistry.
Prof. Kutai is a smart person, but she doesn't communicate well to students. It is difficult to learn and get a simple question answered. She also expects way too much out of students. She assigns 3-4 hours of homework per lesson (including weekends) and is surprised when thing due on Saturday aren't done. I would never take her class again.
Please listen to me, run forest run. She does not respect the students at all. She will yell at you for asking simple clarification questions if you are lucky. If not, she will give you a long, drawn-out explanation that makes you worse off than you were before. I average about 12 hours of work a week from her class and am still falling.
Very tough but extremely caring of her students. I wont forget how she helped me. This is not an easy class. You should expect lots of homework, reading and studying on your own time. On the bright side she is very accessible in her office hours and email.
Dr. Kutai is the best instructor I've ever had. These reviews do not correctly represent Dr. Kutai. This is a very challenging course, Dr. Kutai provides lots of practice including lots of homework to ensure understanding of the material. Dr. Kutai provides the practice needed for success. I've had the pleasure of having her for 3 semesters.
Puts nothing behind her teaching. Her syllabus dates are unclear, her lectures are extremely messy and hardly anything can be learned. Its as if its a favour to us that she gives us 1 point quizzes to help "understand". But these are given before we're even taught anything the bad grades add up. No feedback on wrong answers and unreasonable grader

For an online class she had an absolute mess of a blackboard site. You could not tell when anything was due or what upcoming assignments were going to happen because they would only be available for a 24 hour period. The test were much harder than the in class problems. She also made us take the first exam 3 times. DO NOT TAKE HER SHE IS AWFUL!!!
Dr. Kutai was my lab professor. She is a very knowledgeable chemistry professor but knows nothing about teaching. I dislike her views abt student learning. Students in her class feel bad for struggling due to the pressure. She does eventually answer questions (she tries to do better). Grading criteria unclear. Not empathetic but not the worst.
Do not take this prof. She ABSOLUTELY does not teach. We had to learn on our own, classes were student-led groups. She left time for some questions at the end of class but always got annoyed at people who did. One-on-one was also terrible - she interrogates. Preparation does not help with exams - material not covered. Exams are worth a lot.
Most reviews described her general teaching but I'll focus more on the final. She gave incorrect reviews and answer keys, got angry when they were not completed. She did none of the extensive review she promised. A 132 class with a 131 final exam, most the class failed. Teach yourself the subject early and don't wait on her to help you. Good luck

Shes very caring for her students and is always available to help after hours. She is very strict and expects you to do all the work she assigns and doesnt assign for grade. I passed with a C and that was with me pouring my heart and soul onto this one course. Tests are nothing like the quizzes or work you do in class, theyre extremely difficult
Chemistry is hard, you need a great teacher for a class like this. Kutai has terrified me of Chemistry, making it extremely difficult to understand/ follow along. I would not recommend her at all unless you're already very good at the subject. Otherwise, beware. She also assigns so much work that she expects you to do before and after class.

Don't take her I swear, she is only caring at best. Lectures were confusing, her answer keys were sometimes wrong, she forgets to mention important knowledge needed for the test. classtime was practically 80% devoted to worksheet group time. She seems to casually fail most students in her class but is unchanging. The tests catches you off guard
I'm sorry for everyone who has had her as a professor. While RMP is not always accurate, please understand from personally being in her class that these negative reviews are truthful. Being in her class was extremely distressing. She would interrogate anwers we didnt know because she did not teach. Chemistry now makes me ill and I learned nothing.

I find the most helpful rating concerning in the sense that as I'm looking through I dont find it helpful at all. One of the only other 5/5 reviews has an overwhelming amount of thumbsdown and I can say I more agree with some of the other reviews than this one.

I'm shocked by all her negative reviews, she is my favorite professor I've ever had which is why I've taken her for two semesters. You can tell she genuinely cares about her students and our success and gives tons of review exams before the final. If it helps your grade, she will even count your final exam grade for more.

She did not prepare us for the final exam, there were no study guides for exams or quizzes, everyone relied on the lab professor for help. She will fail you and doesn't care if you have personal issues.
Great class
She was nice if you participated in class. You lose points in your grade if you don't. She had so many mini quizzes that were due before class WHEN WE HADN'T LEARNED THE MATERIAL. The exams were way harder than what she taught. She spent way too much time trying to get us to do group work when she could've been teaching. DON'T TAKE HER!
