great class i would recomend him
Felt like he really cared about his students: willing to give of his time to help students with difficulties. Great instructor!!
Great guy, lots of fun and sense of humor. Fair tests and helpful
very good teacher, cares about his students and his profession. Highly recomend him.
i took this class on-line and he was great. The tests werent too hard, he was very involved with the discussion boards, and the class was very informative. Highly suggested!
REAL COOL GUY, BE PREPARED TO TAKE A LOT OF NOTES
this guy is great!
Excellent teacher. Very organized. His classes are very interesting with a lot of movies, documentaries and presentations that makes history a very interesting subject.
very funny and easy
Easy teacher, easy notes, no need for a book. Teacher is funny, if you understand his jokes. If your a fan of the Simpsons, youll love this teacher because he uses a lot of references.
GREAT GUY, VERYING CARING AND HELPFUL. GOES OUT OF HIS WAY TO GIVE STUDENTS THE BEST. TAKE THIS CLASS!!
THIS IS THE MAN!! HE IS SO FUNNY AND REALLY CARES FOR HIS STUDENTS.
Awesome instructor. Makes history easy for those of us that really really hate to study history. If you need to take this class and hate history take this one its easy to pass but you do learn a thing or two about history.
very easy, no homework, but most of your grade is based on 4 quizez, and mid-term , a book report, and the final. He does offer a good amount of extra credit. Watch out for the studder though and he's pretty funny and swears some times so it seems like he has terets. Great, passionate teacher though
Don't take this professor online class because it's the most unfair course in the world. Even though you study hard you will still get a c and destroy your gpa. His tests are computer generated and therefore very unfair and they don't test your knowledge.
He is very serious teacher. He is not good at speaking, and the class is EXTREMELY boring. What he needs to do is just speak louder and make the class a bit fun. His knowledge and anything others has no problem. He can be an outstanding instructor if he speaks louder and make the class fun.
Very nice guy. Super intelligent, definitely knows his stuff. His tests can be hard if you don't study and don't prepare the essay. There are two papers to write, but he didn't grade very hard. Just go to class, watch the movies, and study the study guides and youll do fine.
Very nice guy! Class is pretty easy as long as you pay attention. Has you write two essays on mid term and final, he gives you the questions ahead of time. Downside is that he isn't very clear when he talks, needs to speak up. He teaches with powerpoints and has the class watch several movies.
Great teacher. Class itself is boring, I hate history. A lot of reading plus reading a book and make a report of the book. Test are online (70 questions). He is a great teacher very helpful and he makes class easy. Take his class online you won't regret it. Easy to get an A
he is very very easy and good, you have a term paper but it is on pretty much what you want. passed with an A easily!!
he's a cool guy, and the class is easy if you just GO and take notes - everything is from the lecture-i didnt pick up my book once. he likes to talk about his fat cats, and his mom alot; he's also VERY soft spoken.
So EASY.. I took the Spring bonus online class... 3 weeks.. 3 tests .. he gives you the test before you take it.. one paper on a book u pick.. and some online questions.. Fast Easy..
He is a super nice guy. His class is interesting and he is trying his best to help students uot by giving clear directions. He is soft spoken so sit in the front. He has some cute cat stories.
Fun. Easy. Perfect.
A Good Teacher Who Freaked Out In Class At Times, Really Willing To Help His Students And Seems To Really Care. Not Too Hard, Stutters A Bit, Would Take Again.
Very good professor. All exam reviews are very Thorough. I really enjoyed his class.
Took his intersession online History class. 3 weeks, 3 tests, one paper, one A. Easiest grade ever.
for me this class was very easy, not too much time involved. only one paper due at end you can retake the tests like three times. I received an "A" and put in not much effort.
I can't believe he gave me a B. I took his class online and in my opinion he gave too much nonsense work. I DEFINITELY DESERVED AN A and I'm not happy about getting a B. He is terrible at responding to student e-mail. If you're gonna take a class with this guy, I would not recommend the online section.
I think he was a great teacher! explained things well and the quizzes were extremly easy! i would reccoment him to anyone. the paper is kind of long but its on a book that YOU choose to read. dont wait til last minute for anything. Great teacher and helpful! take him for anything you can!
After reading comments on him I thought it would be an easy A for Hist108 Online. But he said that there will be no Extra credit since it is an online class. I spent an avarage of 5 hours on each online exam-100 questions-, done the book review and I got a B. I think I could get an A if there had been just a couple of extra credit points.
Tests are not fun! Since I took these 2 classes at the same time I had to take 7 of the 100 question tests. The questions were totally all over the place and re-worded in a way you couldn't understand. He definately is not on top of things & assigns a lot of work, especially in 109. I think he has gotten tougher. Don't expect it to be easy.
Omg, what are you people complaining about?? It's an online class, and you still complain about doing work? Just drop out then! haha I mean what do you expect, a class that you don't go to AND has no work?? You guys are dumb! There's barely enough room to type so i'll continue on another comment...
This teacher is not bad. I took his class online. The tests are kinda hard, BUT you get to print them out, look them up and then submit it. Take your time and your good to go.
ONLINE, This class was easy until you get to the tests. There 100 questions and you have to look everything up in the book. One test took me about 12 hours. Other than the test you have 8 assignments which you you have to look up answers to about 5-7 question online which are not to hard. Overall, its an okay class, tests are very difficult....
3 100 question multiple question tests. Answers are all over the place. Easy but time consuming as hell. Some literally will take forever to find and you have to base some answers on whole paragraphs. Take the regular session class, intersession is a pain when you have to do the same WORKLOAD in a span of two weeks. Add a book report to that too.
Yes the tests are time consuming, BUT he gives them to you!!! Don't do it all in one day, do a little at a time. I took both 108 and 109. Compared to other History teachers, he is not hard.
I took Hist 108 over the summer and it wasn't bad at all!! No midterm or final and the tests are easy-40 questions long and you can print them out before you take them. The only hard part is that you have to write a few papers. He seemed to be an easy grader though. I would take another class of his!!
I took his summer online class and it was very easy. He gives 4 tests plus some web assignments. You have to find the aswers in the book which can be tedious. But he's really funny and the class was a breeze.
he is cool. i didnt do much for this online class besides the quizes, and the book reviews and doc sets. he is a fair guy as u see.
I just LOVE HIM, I'll take his class again this fall 2007 for Hist 108 because, he's funny, very helpfull, care alot about the students, very open mind, i would like to know more about him.
You have to take into the fact of the wildfires, so some people had diff views. This semester, I took both his 108 and 109 and I truly beleived he did his best in handling the class. If you know your assignments and keep up, which online classes are well known for, then you will have no problems in attaining an A. Keep up the good work. 5+
he is a nice guy and good teacher, but the class was HARD (hist 108 online). this is a class you'll want the books for. as long as you do your work and put that extra effort into the assignments, you'll pass. two papers you have to write, and a few quizes. he was a good teacher, but i wouldnt take it again.
Oscar is one of the most helpful online teachers I've ever had. There is no final or midtermm, 7 40 question test instead. You get the test in pfd form 3 days before they're due, get to print them out and submit them when you've looked up the answers. He's helpful and understanding. So much that I'm taking him during the summer for HIST 109!
I took history 108 with this professor and he grades fair. the papers are kind of hard, but if you have any questions he gives you good advice, the quizzes are easy and make sure you catch up with the reading, he is a great teacher and I would recommed him to anyone.
Terrible. Does not give any feedback, provides personal stories instead of instruction. Incapable of directly answering any question. Easy mult. choice quizes, poorly constructed online interactions. Out for ethnic agenda only, so never disagree if you want an "A". Other than that, fast grader, but won't budge on irregular expectations for papers.
I took Hist 108 online and he is one of the best online instructors ive had. heavy textbook use though so you have to read.
OSCAR IS A GREAT TEACHER. YOU DON'T NEED TO READ TEXT BOOK. CURVES THE TESTS SO MUCH THAT ALMOST EVERYONE WITH B+ WOULD END UP GETTING A'S. GRADES THE DISCUSSION QUESTIONS VERY EASY. HIGHLY RECOMMEND HIM.
Rather than test for familiarity with the material quiz requires interpretation and judgment calls. More than one answer may be correct but which is MORE correct? Also, questions ask about obscure facts like was it 1877 this happened or 1878? Was it king James 1 or James 2? Takes no prisoners. Shouldnt it be more important if I got an overall idea?
This guy is very tough I have a 3.8 and I'm a very good student but I received my very first and last W on my transcript because of this guy. Tests literally take HOURS and the questions are spaced out every where in the book. Then on top of it there is a lot of writing assignments which are time consuming as well. I got an A with another teacher
Wow! I took this class online and it is very time consuming! This guy is super sweet but gives tons of work, weekly quiz, document. sets, book review, three long discussion boards, PBS video review, SLO assignments, it's never ending! I barely had enough time to complete my other classes! I had to miss so much work to keep up with this class.
OMG! This is one of the hardest, most time consuming classes I have ever taken, aside from Biology. First, the text book is NOT user friendly, and 80% of the work requires use of the text,Plus two writing assigments each 6 pages long, plus quizzes each week. He is unfair on grading also and doesnt fully explain assignments. I'm glad its over
There is heavy textbook use for his online class. Took this Spring semester. There are a total of 16 quizzes with 25 questions each, 6 papers, and discussion board. Whew. I passed with a B. I rather have an A. He doesn't give explanations on the grades given for the papers. This class is very time consuming.
I will comment on both hist 108/109 since I attended both. He has a quiz for every chapter EVERY week, so reading is key. His additional written assignments aren't that bad, as long as you read the text. Does not comment on your papers and why they deserved such grade. He does, although, give you a great perspective on history.
Ther is a LOT of work involved in this class. It's fairly straight forward if you read the text, but it requires a lot of time.
Took this class over summer. Out of all the classes I've even taken at Grossmont, this is by far the most hectic class. For a 6 week class, he required 3 Document Set Papers, 1 PBS report, 1 SLO paper, 1 book review, 3 long discussion (it's practically 1-2 pages each), 4 exams (100 questions each). To sum it all up, 9 papers and 400 exam questions!
Really nice guy, but the assignments are not spaced out evenly at all. TONS of work the last 3 weeks compared with only quizzes for the first 9. Doesn't provide feedback on papers or grades even when asked, so very hard to correct any mistakes for the next assignment. LOTS of reading each week.
The class is online only with no tests, only long open book quizzes. There are many extra assignments - had to read Farewell to Manzanar, Caesar Chavez, White Fang and Juaquin Murrieta PLUS another book by a CA author for a book report. Lots of extra "busy" work!!! still interesting class but do not take if you won't have time.
Umm ALOT of work for an online class. I dont even think he corrects any of his papers. He just gives you a grade and no feedback to why you got that grade
Online course requiring additional texts & choice of California-oriented novel review. Lot of effort needed. No mid-term/final, but 8 50-question quizzes with PDF copies offered shortly before quiz date. Need to double-check "correct" quiz answers, as they vary from the text occasionally. Quiz questions worded difficultly at times, possibly biased.
Took his course online & loved it. 8 quizzes straight from the text. 3 papers & 2 small assignments. It was very interesting & he is very involved with the class. I would take him again!
Quizzes every week! Expects you to read the chapter WORD FOR WORD! Quiz questions are taken directly from the book! But the textbook is crap and it takes AGES to find the answers. Professor is USELESS! He doesn't even post lectures...oh and just wait till the middle/end of the semester, NON STOP WORK! All for a stupid GE requirement! Never again!
Took his online class, there is a lot of homework in this class for a general ed class, I probably spent 8-16 hours every week just on this class. Some weeks have 3 assignments due while others have 1 assignment due. Even during the finals week, there was about 4 assignments due, so I could not study as much as I wanted for my other classes.
This was by far the most time consuming class I have every taken!!! There was a test every week along with a discussion board every week. We then had 8 writing assignments that were all different and took forever to complete because you had to watch videos to write them and read books. I do not recommend this class if you want something easy...
Text with 15 chapters, class with 15 quizzes, 1 per chapter, 1 per week, 30 questions & chapters 50 pages long. Does give an outline prior to quiz. Lots of discussion board work, & numerous extra assignments. It is an interesting class, but not for summer session and maybe not with any time-consuming classes. Text's wrong in spots, too. Be wary!
Terrible professor. Did not clarify an ISBN or textbook edition, so I was unable to take the final and he was out of class and unavailable and had no copy reserved in the library. Relies entirely on the text for quiz questions and will not update them, even when errors are reported. Talks way too much about football and not enough about the course.
You will for sure use all of your textbooks you buy. You read 2 books and get quizzed on them and write papers on them. Honestly, it was too much for an online class but he's nice, clear, and answers questions back. Discussion boards are the EASIEST.
Never take this class. It is the most difficult and time consuming class.During he course you will write approximately 100 pages of different assignments based on reading, listening and watching videos. How professor can not understand that History not the only class we have. I have one month left, and I am not sure that I'll manage to do all tasks
Amount of work completely unrealistic. So many things due you can't keep track. Assignments are often not explained clearly at all and when asking for an explanation his responses confuse you even more. Nice but wouldn't take class again. Tried to tell him an answer was right and proved it, said he would look at it at end of semester!
I thought he was a great teacher! There was a lot of work in this class but I am in college and would expect that. Most homework assignments are clear and he grades pretty well. Not to harsh. Quizzes are a little. Not bad overall :)
Oscar is a nice guy, but the amount of work he assigned was overwhelming. He instructs his class with the mentality that it's the only class you're taking. I'm surprised I was able to get through that mountain of essays, reflection journals, and discussion boards. He does grade fairly leniently though, and he's helpful.
WOULD NEVER EVER EVER TAKE ANY OF HIS CLASSES AGAIN.
Super unclear in his very long videos he post frequently to the online class, says "ummm, " coughs, smacks his lips and clears his throat for about 12 of the video do not take this class if that will bug you. very nice guy that takes interest in his job just needs to type more things out and say a little less. not too much work, do it to pass.
This professor will not respond to emails. He will only correspond through blackboard. He does daily announcements which are nice but they ramble on before getting to the important part, same for his videos. He has a book assignment based on a book the barely passes as having to do with early US history. In all, use caution when taking this course.
good material way too much work. way too many 6 page reports due. 5 essays all have to be over 5 pgsmultiple reviews and essays to write about the same thing you just took a quiz on. workload would be okay if you had no life and only this class. Canedo CANNOT SPEAK WELL. VERY HARD TO UNDERSTAND AND FOLLOW his instructional videos about assignments.
too much work. way too many essays. six 5 page or more essays throughout the class. if you have a job or other classes do not take this class. the time needed to pass this class will take time away from your other studies or job. big assignments due every week along with a test
Please. DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS. I read all the reviews and thought to myself, I'd rather have a teacher who is an easy grader and more work rather than a tough grader with not that much work. THINK AGAIN! I took an english class at that same time and spent more time writing papers for this class. He also posts a lot of small talk. Save yourself!
I would anyone to take this class, online both Chio141A, 141
If History is not your major then STAY CLEAR OF THIS CLASS! Canedo assigns way too much work for this class. A 6 question essay response a week, 35 question quiz every week and for the last month of the semester he assigns 3 essays 5-7pg each, 3 essay type discussion forums and a FINAL! If you are taking other classes then do not take his class.
Teaches his class through videos, wouldn't mind if they weren't 30-60min long and he spoke clearly. Rarely responds to emails and speaking to other students it is a characteristic of his. Get ready for weekly quizes, more essays than an english class and a final that'll take you days. Im sorry but this is the worst online experience I have ever had
This could have been a great class if not for the avalanche of assignments! I had to stop reading and start skimming by the 3rd week to keep up. Instead of learning about history I was just trying to stay on top of the overwhelming amount of homework. Spent about 15 hours a week on assignments - way too much for only 3 credits.
Expectations were to read a chapter, take a 30 question test, listen to weekly check in, listen to lecture, write an essay on it, every week. Plus read a novel, write a character study essay, create video about a character you created. Watch two 1+ hour videos and write an essay for each. Read EBSCO article and write essay. Also an 8 essay final.
Three major assignments due, the last week of school. Get ready to write 18 pages and make a video of yourself.
He isn't clear on his instruction. Very repetitive papers throughout the entire course. It seems as if he doesn't even read the papers. Comes off as rude, and gives backhanded complements as feedback.
A LOT OF WORK, I HATED THIS CLASS. THE QUIZ AVERAGE IS 83% AND HE IS OKAY WITH THAT. THIS IS MORE LIKE AN ENGLISH CLASS, LOTS OF ESSAYS. LAST 4 WEEKS OF CLASS HE GAVES AT LEAST ONE ESSAY PER WEEK. DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR !!!!
I took his History 108 class online! Their was 5 quizzed in total. He drops the lowest grade at the end. Three major papers and a video assignment due at the end. Overall easy class. He responds quick as well.
A lot of work! His teaching style is the kind to throw so much at you hardly any sticks by the end of the class. His grading is based on personal standards that aren't listed in criteria.
Los of work, but not a tough grader. He was a very nice guy.
Very unorganized. This Professor doesn't "believe"anyone deserves 100% on a paper, so while the paper will be worth 100 points and he will tell you that you did a great job the closest you can get is 95. Added up by the end of the class on all the papers and if you don't do over 80+ on all the tests your grade point plummets. Rude and uncaring.
I honestly don't recommend this class to anyone who wants an easy "A". This course requires lots of reading, memorization, and careful studying. Please do not think this class is easy! You are graded by a few things and if you are planning to take this class online then beware of procrastination.
I took this class to fulfill a requirement but it was still difficult. He doesn't give a clear rubric for grading and does not give anyone full points for writing assignments?? He also talks way too fast in his YouTube lectures, and the CC option doesn't help when you speak faster than you can think. If history is hard for you, avoid this class.
I took his 8-week class, and it was a lot of work. In it, there were 4 essays total but very long ones that need research, a test every week 50 q's, and then a final that was a long essay about short answers. You need to read the book to pass and it's not an easy read. Lots of writing and work. He is a fair grader, not easy but not hard.
Lots of papers and I heard the 16 week is even more of that. Though if you take the 8 weeks after about the 5th week there is no more and then it's just tests till the final which all the answers are in the book and the slides. You solve the questions with the study guide and come test day you just plug them in to the test. Easy but lots of work!
He is a nice guy, and seems like a good person. Sadly this class is tough- tough enough to be worth more credits. If you take your time reading the chapters, videos, etc, expect 15+ hours a week for a 3 credit course. If youre doing full time expect no time for other classes. Lots of essays 6+ pages. Not too hard for tests. Easy C, Hard A, B.
Unfortunately I only had him as fully remote teacher and did not have zoom meetings either. Some reviews say the essays are hard and require lots of work but from my experience it is just choosing and reading an reading article, summarize it, and give your insight on in. The readings are a lot but 100% manageable.
I would recommend you to take with this professor because he is amazing, he will listen to you and help you as much as he can. His assignments are not easy you need to prepare before the due dates way ahead. If you do everything on time, you will get an easy A.
He is not respectful to transgender people. He called me my name ONCE on the discussion forum, but after writing the papers, he started calling me my deadname in the comment section. Yes, my preferred name was written on the paper. I called him out about it and he never responded. Papers: You will need long paragraphs. Trust me. He has no rubric.
This professor was really great. He allowed me to turn in late work and requested for a grade change petition in order to help me out. He did his very best to accommodate and help me. Life can be tough, so having a professor who is helpful is really amazing. The course work is not too difficult. He tells you what he wants from you
Read the description of what he puts out, do the work and you'll get a great grade.
The work load was informative yet he made it easy as long as you went through the modules and engaged in the class. It was fully online, and he provided PDF copies of the quizzes which made it SO easy to study. You also get to choose your own articles for essays which makes them more personalized.
Professor Canedo is a tough grader the assigments are essays and i like the feedback he provides. Do the work and read and you will do great in this course!
Do not take this class if you are taking other classes or have a life whatsoever. This class made me cry multiple times in just the first two weeks. This is a history class why am I writing a 7 page paper!??!! RIDICULOUS. He also grades very harsh and the answers to the quizzes are so specific and difficult to find in the reading and power points.
The professor himself isn't bad but the class is a ton of work and honestly unnecessary for a history course. I took his online 8-week course and the number of papers he gave us was ridiculous, also get ready to write a 7 page paper on a 50 page article the same week as the final!
I am currently in this class and I can say this is one of the most difficult classes I have taken. While there isn't a ton of homework, all of it is essays. I have cried over this class already and I want to drop out so badly. I have a 7 page essay due the same week as finals, and the final is already long. DO NOT RECOMMEND IT!
DO NOT take this class if you struggle with essays. This class is extremely essay heavy and you have to spend so much time doing homework. There is a 50-question exam every module but those are easy because he provides a pdf. You have to buy 2 books, and there is a 7-page paper and final due within a week or so. Be prepared to cry :)
My mental health is declining in this class...every assignment is an essay and you have a 50 question quiz every week. Don't recommend..I promise you can find better
I love to write and this class just sucked the fun out of writing for me. Also deadnamed me when grading my first assignment which is suspicious because the name on my assignment and my canvas display name are my preferred name. If writing isn't your strong suit take heed and choose a different class because your grade will depend on it.
Lots of writing but he grades lightly and the assignments are not at all hard to do, they are repetitive and easy to get a grasp on, he also gives you a lot of the work early if you want to get ahead. Great professor overall, enjoyed this class.
Professor Canedo's HIS115 class is writing-intensive, but engaging if you're willing to put in the effort. The assignments can be challenging, but using resources like Unstuck ai alongside the textbook can be very helpful for study prep. Overall, a rewarding course if you don't mind the workload.
Not a tough grader but as long as you get the work done and do as he says. There are a couple of essays to do and quizzes. Final exam is long but he gives you an advance notice to prepare for it. Chill professor.
Honestly highly recommend taking this class. Time after time I expected to get a very poor grade on important assignments only to discover I received an A or a high B. I was very surprised and honestly he's a really nice guy. Class was super easy so I recommend taking it if you're looking for an easy class to pass & you need to take a history class
This professor is great! He has preview module videos for each module where he goes over all of the material that will be covered for the module, and releases exact PDF copies of the exams so we can gather our answers beforehand. Pretty easygoing class, and a very caring professor!
As the reviews mentioned, he is very heavy when it comes to writing. He expects everyone to be fully engaged with discussions. Would always give me a low score no matter how many times to engage in online discussions. To shed some lighting, the quizzes are an easy A. If taking this class, be prepared for lots of writing and 3 long essays.
Wouldn't recommend this class. The essays are given a lot of weight, and the grading criteria is often not clear, or includes things that weren't explicitly mentioned. The content is often interesting, although the way assignments are graded can be confusing and frustrating, so I would recommend taking a different professor.
