Flips through slides too quickly to take notes. No homework a.k.a no chance to make up your grade in case of bad test grades. His tests have NOTHING to do with what he teaches. Completely contradictory over each topic.
nothing he taught was on the tests
Unorganized teacher, but curves tests and class. The material is hard and there is little time to study as less then 2 weeks before next exam. Very nice and cares about students. Highly recommened for A&P I
It was a challenging class, which meant I learned more. I enjoyed having him as my teacher. Like Cantino says, if you want an A in the class you have to read the text book twice. Rattenborgs class motivated me to work harder and it payed off. He was also generous on his grading method. I give Rattenborg a thumbs up.
This was the worst professor I've ever had. He doesn't even teach from the text book that you get. He quickly admitted on the first day of class that he was dyslexic. There are spelling errors and wording problems like crazy on his tests. Also, everything that he teaches is different than whats on his tests. GET A DIFFERENT PROFESSOR.
very challenging class, he makes you think. Cares about the students and makes sure you understand the material. Need to read your textbook to get ready for the text.
Stay clear of this teacher unless you are a genius okay...He teaches from multiple text books and is very inconsistent. Tells the class that there will be a multiple choice test and throws out a complete essay style test! Also, the test does not cover what he teaches. No study guides and way too much to cover in the 2 books to know what to study!
Stay away, unless you like self teaching and suprises for your test. All test are list, or fill in the blank, so you better have a good memory. His lectures suck, he skims over the book and sends you on your way. I don't recommend him, and I am sorry I had to stick it out!
Honestly, his dyslexia made it a challenge to understand some of the test questions, but he seemed like he did care about his students. He was fairly generous on curbing test scores, but his tests were very challenging and I didn't feel like he prepared us for the tests given. I feel like he needed to be more organized.
AFTER THE FIRST TEST, MORE THAN HALF OF THE CLASS DROPPED IT! BORING TEACHER, TESTS HAVE NOTHING TO DO WITH HIS TEACHINGS, TESTS ACCORDING TO SYLLABUS WHETHER OR NOT WE ARE FINISHED WITH THE MATERIAL....PRETTY MUCH A SELF-TAUGHT CLASS! AVOID THIS PROFESSOR AT ALL COSTS!!
HE ISNT THE BEST PROFESSOR , BUT IF YOU READ TO BOOK AND STUDIED LIKE YOU SHOULD YOU CAN GET A GOOD GRADE. HE GRADES ON A CURBED WHICH IS GREAT... HIS TEST ARENT THE BEST AND HE DOES CARE ABOUT HIS STUDENTS.. IF YOU DONT LIKE TO WORK HARD DONT TAKE HIM OTHER WISE HE WAS ALRIGHT
This professor is truly horrible. Test questions were confusing and not always related to material covered in lecture. Regardless of the amount of time spent studying, most of the class failed his test. He states he will grade on curve, but people wouldn't need the curve if his tests were fair. I DROPPED HIS CLASS!!!!!
This guy seems to set students up for failure. He is extremely unclear of what he will cover on tests; questions are set up in such a way that even the potential answers are confusing. He is disorganized and holds students to a higher standard than self. I have been a mostly A student and would have failed despite my best effort had I not withdrawn.
He is really helpful, material is boring at times but straight from the book so just read the book and its simple. He is very clear in material u need to know for exams which he lets you drop one exam n thats really nice. quizzez are easy and u can earn mad points just doin ur quizzes and there not tricky sometimes exactly from lab book and memory
WHAT A NICE GUY!! really down to earth and understands we all have a life outside of class. helps u get higher points on exams if answ. r debatable or tricky will change ur grade so u get more points. easy quizzes that help ur grade mostly right fro lab book.TAKE HIM SOOOOO SWEET AND HELPFUL
EASY CLASS, VERY LEINANT, READ THE SUMMARIES IN THE BACK OF THE BOOK AND YOU WILL PASS EASILY!GREAT PROFF. AND REALLY NICE N EASY GOING.
I was really surprised how nice he was. Really helpful and crystal clear on material u need to know for exams. He even cracked jokes that made you laugh and made lecture not so boring. we even has an open book exam was AWESOME!! Loved Him!!!!
He is very fair, a wonderful teacher. You MUST MUST study, he grades you based on you knowledge shown in class as well as your test and quizzes. The material is tough, but you will learn. All learning styles accepted!
This professor is very reasonable and is willing to help out students who need extra clarification. He drops the lowest test grade & gives back questions that the majority of the class miss. All said, I would recommend this professor to other students and would gladly register for other classes he teaches.
EXTREMELY nice & understandable. Will give you points if questions/answers are debatable on exams. Has a corky sense of humor. Don't really learn anything in the class though, TAKE WITH LECTURE otherwise you'll be lost because he doesn't teach very well.
Great Professor! I really enjoyed this class... I wanted to sign up for his A&P1 but it was full. Very down to earth & will help with anything he can. 1 day a week he was there 2 1/2 hour before class for anybody that neeeded extra help. Very open about everyone learning differently & willing to work with people about it. LOVE HIM!
Really great professor. He is very nice, understanding, and is always willing to help. His class was always fun and interesting. You will learn a lot and enjoy doing it. Overall great class and an awesome professor. I highly recommend him!
I really enjoyed his class. It was always fun. He is very nice, funny, and helpful. I would definitely recommend him to anyone.
Great class. Professor was very helpful and fair on tests.
It was hard to understand what he was teaching at times. The labs often didnt have the expected results. It was hard to test. He was great at listening to your concerns and offering all the help you needed. Very nice guy. I dont think I adapted well to his teaching style. You have to stay in class to get a good grade.
OMG.. I agree with what they are saying, I dont know if he had a tough summer or something but this guy was not all there.. I learned a big nothing during labs. He is unprepared and kind of wacky. Do not take this class if you want to get an A or B! Quizes EVERYDAY on stuff not yet taught and his tests are from OUTERSPACE!!! WEIRD Guy!!!
This professor is the best! He makes attending class so much fun and dispite what other reviews state, he is well organized, we always had time to study and his test are completely outlined in his power points- which he posts on the portal. I took him for BSC 1080 and BSC 1093. Unfortunatley he isn't available for BSC 1094 next semester.
Professor Rattenborg was absolutely amazing. He is the most " real " professor I've ever had. He truly cares for his students and is forth-write about his expectations. Studying is a must but he makes it bearable and fair. Give him a chance and with hard work on your part I believe you will discover another great Edison State College professor.
Read the book.Ignore the slides. A little eccentric at times.
I truely enjoyed his class! Some of the comments here are true in the fact that he is difficult to learn from. He does not write notes but he does state exactly what in the book to focus on. He is extremely helpful with all concerns and questions. It is a lot of hard work, but we are here to learn, and I feel he helped me to accomplish that.
You work for the grade but you learn the material. Interesting and uses many different ways of presenting the material in order to help you grasp the processes. Do not expect an easy A but do expect him to try to help you do well. Ask for help, attend class, ask questions, review material before lectures. Be prepared for essay questions on systems.
I will never forget this professor. He is truly compassionate towards his students. I love his quirkiness. He expects a lot but offers a lot of assitance.
Excellent! It's a hard class because it's a hard course to take but he does an awesome job of teaching it. He gives fair grades and is willing to help out if you need it.
Material is hard and you must put in study time. If you are not willing to study you will not pass this class. Prof. listens to students goes over test and will change bad questions. Prof. is very nice and really wants to help you achive your goal. really nice guy. If you are willing to work he will help you. Quiz every other week and test are fair
Professor Rattenborg is inappropriate in his language and personal examples. He is a terrible teacher and often confuses his students.
He's very mono tone, not very clear, and he expects you to know ALOT before you go into the class.
He is a good professor. Like in every other class you just need to do your homework, study and you'll do fine. He grades on a curve, which is very helpful.I finished with an A. The study section on the mastering biology was really helpful.
This professor is awesome! He grades on a curve, which is helpful. He also works with you a lot if you are having trouble. He is very funny and down to Earth. Material is hard but he will help if you ask. I highly recommend him!Not to mention he allows late work if you have legitimate reasons, or just discuss it with him.
Helpful if you ask, but don't expect to come to class, pay attention and get a good grade. He expects you to read the chaps and teach yourself and then he will go over what you've taught yourself in class. The power points are pretty much an very broad view of what you need to teach yourself. Does not elaborate in a way that would help you.
Good Professor. You will learn with professor Rattenborg. He is strict and has high expectations from his students. Read your book and you will pass. He does highlight what is on the exams and quizes
Awesome instuctor. He is very helpful and will work with you. His powerpoints are the study guide and he reviews for all exams and quizzes.
I feel very proficient in Bio and taking his class made me feel like I knew nothing. Be ready to self teach the entire course. Exams are insane. Again, always feeling ilke I had a very firm understanding, I'd get the exam and the wording is far too difficult. The class gathered outside after tests and everyone felt the same. Good luck.
DO not take him if you want to pass or get a good grade. He does not explain anything. He just read the power point as it is. 6 exams 6 quizzes a lot of essays questions. First time that happen to me. I withdrawn the class .If I could Go back I would never take his class again. He is not helful at all Do not take Oscar or you will regret Like me :(
By far the worst teacher I have ever had. He does not teach anything and when you ask him a question he goes off on some tangent and doesnt even answer it! Expect to teach yourself this entire course if you take him. And if you go to him privately and ask a question he makes you feel stupid like you should already know it. DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS!!!!
Professor know his stuff, but isn't a very good teacher.
AMAZING teacher. Knows the subject very well, and enjoys teaching and talking to students. I'm not saying it's an easy course, you will have to spend a good amount of time reading the textbook and going through his ppts, but he does give you a good idea of what will be on the tests and if he sees you working your butt off you'll get the A
Worst prof. ever. DO NOT take this class!!!! his study guides are terrible. very monotone. you will be teaching yourself everything in this class.
RUN! DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS.If you want to learn you have to teach yourself.75% of the class are struggling bcause he does not teach. Spends more time talking about his personal life. Do yourself a favor and take a different professor or you will regret it.
Gotta teach yourself everything, read the chapter before he goes over the power point in class so you will understand what he is discussing. I think my prior knowledge from LPN class helped extremely. Study guides are not specific so you dont know what to study for the test.
The worst Professor I ever had. Study the book, and the powerpoints but he will give trick questions on the test. Class started with approx 40 students now down to 12. That's because of so many students that dropped class. Don't take this Professor or you will be sorry. He does not teach! Only reads the powerpoints.
DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR!!!! He is a very intelligent and sometimes funny man, but he is a HORRIBLE teacher. Study guides do not match tests, teaches simple concepts and tests on way more complex ideas. We new to crawl before we can walk. Bad class, bad, bad, bad class.
Worst professor ever!!!!! Confusing inappropriate, annoying, and monotone. His power points are so broad and he does not teach anything! His tests are hard and you have to teach yourself everything. Changed the grading policy 3 weeks into the semester just because he felt like it. DO NOT take his class !!! you are better off just doing it online !!
No sure why so many rate him Low I think they expect an easy A but the subject alone is hard. Yes he focuses on power points and if you need a real interactive explanation then he's not for you. If you use the power points highlight what he go's over and circle anything he says too your good, there were no out of left field questions. learn!
I'm not sure why he got such low ratings either. I haven't been in college for 20 years and jumped in to A&PII. A whole lot of studying is required, which he informs you of first day of class. he is very willing to help and has extra study sessions for tests. I don't want to visit a medical person who was given good grades without hard work. Great!
Professor Rattenborg is a wonderful professor. He makes you work hard but if you put in the time you will do well. He is always available for extra help if you need and he responds to emails/calls and texts promptly. I've taken him for 2 courses and have learned far more in his class then from any other professor. Do your work & pay attention!
Excellent professor! Goes out of his way to help students. Very kind and appreciates feedback. You will have to work hard but that is expected in anatomy. Very fair professor- one of the best!
I did not like this professor at all. I have done so good in all my past classes and I have always studied hard, but the problem with this professor in this class is not that the class isnt easy, it is the way he teaches. He doesnt use the anatomical models to help us understand what we are going through, he reads the power point, and good luck.
He is not the easiest teacher but does care about your grade. He does NOT hand out grades at all! His tests are very hard and his essays are harder with every test.
Not sure of the low ratings because everyone in our class loved him. He was one of my favorite professors. This class can be challenging but if you work hard you can get an A. Just some advice.. get the textbook. The slides are great but you will have a better understanding with the book.
One of the best professors out there. He is enthusiastic about the material & covers everything thoroughly. Always reviews, and tests/quizzes are difficult but fair. Dr. Rattenborg sincerely cares about his students and wants everyone to do well. You will need to put in effort to succeed, so study and come to class.
Made A&P understandable! It is not an easy class by any means but he makes it do-able. Make sure to read the chapters in the book and listen to his online reviews. If you do not understand the material he is always available by email or phone and will meet with you before or after class to help clarify! Fingers crossed he is teaching A&P2 in fall
Rattenborg is a wonderful and honest professor he relates the material you learn to the medical field as well as real life experiences. When he lectures he does so in a way that allows the material to really be understood and stick. Do your work, read the material, and study and you will do great! I recommend him and thanks professor rattenborg.
AP is not an easy class, however he really is clear about his expectations from the start. Make sure to review the book and powerpoint slides (Canvas). He is very willing to help students, and drops your lowest exam grade. If you put in the time, you will be rewarded. I hope he is teaching AP2 this fall.
Professor Rattenborg was an okay professor. What I mean by that is I felt he wasn't much of a teacher during this class. He felt more like a DMV employ who you need to drive with to get your license. He didn't teach as well as I had hoped. If you go into his class take an "im on my own" approach.
A&P is a hard course he can't make it too easy. Understands that people have lives, drops lowest test grade and lets you make up 1 exam if you miss it. Doesn't give study guides for tests is the only downfall, but does do a review the class before!
Tests are extremely hard. Goes over multiple chapters and goes by them fast. States that it is clear what to study on tests, clearly this is not the case. I have other friends taking other A&P courses who are doing great, I've always gotten A's and this is the first time I've ever really, really struggled. Definitely NOT a good professor....
You honestly need to study for about 10-14 hours a week in order to pass this class. It's not easy but Prof. Rattenborg's lectures are really interesting. His exams are difficult but manageable and you have to attend class! Miss one class, you're bound to fall back if you don't kick it into gear.
Rattenborg was a hard teacher but he is such a nice caring dude. He's recommended me to many a things and overall he cares. At times I felt his teaching left me in the dust a bit but I can't deny that I feel taking him was worth it in the end. Thanks Mr Rattenborg!
I would highly recommend Professor Rattenborg to anyone taking Anatomy and Physiology. He truly does care about you and wants you to succeed. There are about 7 exams, 6 quizzes, and a research paper. Its not an easy A, you do have to work for it. Overall, it was an outstanding class with an even more outstanding professor!
Listen, if you are going into the medical field, and you think this class is hard, maybe reconsider. It should not be easy! The medical field IS hard. I had to work for my grade, but, he was great and helped as much as he could-he wants you to pass but, he also wants you to learn so you have a good base for the rest of your medical classes.
Awesome professor!!! He excpexts you to work hard, but is very fair. Definitely cares more about you learning than standard grading. He was fantastic!
Took Professor Rattenborg for Summer B, he is a great professor. He teaches a difficult subject and he doesn't hand out A's. His tests are difficult but can easily be overcome by studying the material. He wants his students to pass and will help anyway he can. Highly recommend!
This professor is not bad, the materials are really heavy and it requires 10-12 hours of study. It can be difficult if you have other difficult classes that relate.
I didnt learn anything . It wasnt consistent with lecture completely different. He was really nice, labs were easy but when it came to grading he would take points off if you didnt use a specific words he wanted, hard grader. Test all short response. No book, he would lose your papers. You need to study for test !!
Professor Oscar is great! I learned so much from him this semester, that i'm taking him for A&P II. Be prepared to study!! He gives you many opportunities to raise your grade and answers any questions you have that you are unsure about. He is very caring and wants you to understand the material but you have to make the effort as well.
He'll help you if you ask. The exams have written responses if that's something that bothers you. We didn't do many labs, just two full ones.
Im writing on behalf of A&P 1 and I loved this course! It made me switch my major to nursing and professor rattenborg was such a good teacher. He is very fair, but doesnt just hand out As. Youll have to work for it; if I was staying at FSW id definitely take him for A&P 2.
Tough grader, he can be petty at times when students are late or when the whole class doesn't do well on a test. There is usually a quiz and a test every week so the class is very fast paced, you will have to study VERY had to pass this test. He does care and does give second chances however.
This class is pretty much a do it yourself. He reads the powerpoint and then your on your own. You will have one class to go over material, then next class will be a quiz, then an exam. Very fast paced. The only things graded are exams, quizzes, labs, and the final paper at the end of the semester. Tbh don't recommend this professor at all
His exams are pretty tough. He does a lot of short answer so you have to know what you are talking about on the tests. He gives a lot of extra credit though and gives you credit if you at least have an idea of what you are talking about. You have to study hard and work hard to get an A but its possible.
There are shorts answer on every test (about eight questions); and also the quiz is short answers. He only reads off the PowerPoint, can barely hear him when he's talking, when you ask him to repeat himself he gets mad and gives attitude
I took this class summer mini b. The course is tough, but he makes it a great class. Overall, easy class because he is straight forward on what he expects and what you need to know. If you're looking to not put in effort, the medical field isn't for you to begin with and neither is this class. You MUST study to pass . Hard but achievable.
Took this class as a summer Mini B course. This professor was wonderful!! He doesn't mind answering questions, even repeatedly. There were many tests and quizzes, but I learned to love them because it gave me a chance to improve my grade and understand the material. Would highly recommend this teacher! He is clear about what you should study!
Dr. Rattenborg is very knowledgeable, I took him for A&PII Lab & Lect. He has a soft voice, and likes to add personal anecdotes in lectures. It's a lot of material so there's a test almost every week. Study more than he tells you to, the tests always have more content, the transition to online during the pandemic didn't help. I'd take again
It blows my mind how he has only a 3.3. He is the most caring and understanding professor I've ever had. He sets you up to succeed. He is direct about what he expects you to know. No homework so be ready to study by yourself, and study hard. He gives you all the tools you need to make an A. You just have to apply yourself.
This was a tough subject at first, however, Professor Rattenborg is a nice man and a good teacher. I wish I could have taken A&P 2 with him.
I would defiantly take him again. His quizzes are written questions which can be difficult if you do not take time to look at the power points and read the textbook. His exams can be difficult as well but this subject is not easy in general so don't expect this to be and easy A. ASK WHAT WILL BE ON THE EXAM AND HE WILL TELL YOU EXACTLY WHAT HE ASKS
I wish he tried to be helpful for his students.
He is very easy going and laid back, and wants his students to succeed. He goes over everything that will be on your tests, but often this is verbally in class which is why it is important to actually attend the class as much as possible. He is super approachable and not intimidating at all. I am taking A&P 2 with him as well.
