Coming into this class I heard that it was impossible & hard. It is a challenging class but Dr.Pineno makes it possible to do well. He holds office hours, informative review sessions & is a very fair grader. You get the grade you deserve based on the work you put in. I learned so much more than I thought & even developed an interest in the class.
I am posting this comment because Professor Pineno asked us to. I find it odd that he would ask this of us considering he is THE rudest professor I have ever had. He is condescending and has no empathy whatsoever. The only good thing about this class is there is no attendance however the class is difficult so good luck.....i suggest u avoid it!
Very arrogant. Can be rude. Class is difficult but not impossible. Gives many opportunities to lift grade. Attendance isnt mandatory and quite frankly the topic isn't that much clearer if you attend. Review sesion is recommended. Gives 12 possible candidate questions before an exam and gives 3; must pick 2. tedious but not impossible.
This is a difficult class but if you show up and ask questions in office hours you will do fine. Attnedance is not mandatory but if you want to understnad what is going on you should show up. There are two tests and a short book that you have to read and write a paper on.
Nervous at first about this course but, it is fine don't drop it after the first week it is not bad at all. If you study you will do fine, the assignments are fair and Dr. Pineno is helpful at office hours.
Dr. Pineno is a difficult, but fantastic professor. I disagree with all the negative comments below. If you're looking for an easy class in order to get an easy A then this is not the class for you. If you want to learn meaningful and tangible things then take this class. Also he isn't condescending, give him respect and he will give it right back
This guy can come off to be very rude. He takes this class very seriously and it is a difficult course. Try to pass all of the assignments i think there are only four total. He also thinks that he is teaching elementary kids and he gets upset if you get up to got to the bathroom. Heres some true advice DONT TAKE THIS CLASS. Enter at your on risk!
This class was taken for my liberal arts because I thought it would be easy and interesting. I was wrong. He has a thick spanish accent, as wella
Dr. Pineno is easily one of my favorite professors! You can tell he's really passionate about the class, which makes it interesting. The material is a little hard, but as long as you read the books and study the power points you should be fine. Extra credit is available and he encourages students go to office hours. Great guy and great class!
best prof!!!
This class was very hard. I mostly taught myself the material. The tests were also really hard.
As well as being a respectful and fun professor, he does not let absence slide
I think too many people take this course expecting to show up and get an easy A, when in reality, you have to work for you grade. It won't just be handed to you. It's a very interesting class, and he's there to help you. If you read and understand the material, you'll be fine.
The class is well-organized. The debates are fun. The slides are online, so if you do not go to class then you can stay caught up as long as you also follow the reading as laid out in the schedule. The books are worth reading. The professor is helpful if you have any questions about assignments. The course is enjoyable but also thought-provoking.
He has an attitude problem, even when students just have a question about what he is talking about. He tends to make you feel dumb. SO PAY ATTENTION. READ. He's a nice guy. The class isnt hard but its not a piece of cake either. If you pay attention, take advantage of office hours and take notes you can get a decent grade.
Dr Pineno would be a decent professor, but his attitude often gets in the way of his teaching. Students are afraid to ask questions because he will make you look stupid for asking him to clarify something. It is convenient that he posts powerpoint slides on blackboard and that attendance isnt mandatory, so you can pretty much teach yourself.
Dr. Pinero is a wonderful is a wonderful professor and this class teaches you a great deal on evolution and other animals and how intelligent animals, esp chimps, really can be. Doesn't take attendance expect for special occasions, don't show up late, don't use ur phone (he'll call you out) but very smart guy, really clear, and easy grader
Dr. Pineno was awesome. His accent is beautiful and he keeps you so interested and engaged in the reading. The powerpoint will help you a lot for the exams and his two essays aren't that hard as long as you read the books. He is such a great person, just don't get on his bad side.
Great class!
OSckar Pineno was a great teacher, but his exams are often hard and difficult to understand. If you want to pass, make sure to read the textbook and study on your own.
Prof Pineno is your best option and a great teacher. He gives three, open noteopen book multiple choice tests. He also gives "lab practices" which you can easily earn points on. However, there is a lot of material to learn in psych 1. But if you do the work and pay attention, this class will be a breeze.
Not many tests or assignments. any tests or assignments that we do have are clearly explained. any help we need he will provide until we are completely comfortable and confident.
Dr. Pineno is a great professor. He puts the powerpoints on blackboard, which is everything you need for the tests. There is one paper and 2 tests, which he gives you the possible essay questions in advance. He wants the best for his students and encourages them to come to his office hours, which trust me helps! Don't be afraid to ask questions.
Dr. Pineno can be a helpful instructor; however, he's an extremely picky grader with the assignmentexams but provides the exam questions well ahead of time and a ten point extra credit so it is fair (notes on BB and no attendance). Seems intimidating during class but make an effort to approach him during office hours and your grades will benefit!
He came off as really rude and condescending in the beginning of the semester, but once about 25% of the class dropped he did a 360 and was really nice. Hes a good buy but he applies the techniques he teaches about on us by punishing students verbally or passive aggressively. two tests and a essay. He gives the test questions beforehand.

This professor is not one to take to just get an easy grade, but if you are willing for put in some effort you can definitely get a great grade. He is always willing to help you if you need anything and will always work with you. Definitely recommend, he is a great professor.
Oskar Pineno is a great, down to earth guy. You can really grow a strong relationship with him. His class is really enjoyable but of course requires a bit of work. In the end it will be ok.
He is a great professor. The material it self is a bit difficult. He gives two exams with are two essays chosen from a list of essays he hands out previous to the exam. He also assigns a paper in the semester , and he grades on a point scales. which is out of 110 (10 EC) so what ever you get out of 110, is what you receive out of 100.
Would not take again!!!
Great guy, easy grader, just not expect A for nothing.
Pineno is a bit of an enigma. Look. If you're taking this class for a distribution and its not your major then you should definitely look somewhere else. He is a really nice guy and actually a decent lecturer but he is also very condescending and rude and he lacks confidence in himself which becomes really off-putting to his students.
Dr. Pineno is one of the greatest teachers I have ever met at Hofstra. I never rate my professors but he is amazing. He always willing to help and is very invested in his class. He seems to really enjoy what he does and that makes me love his class even more. Because of him I have decided to declare a psych minor. Everyone should take his course!!
Pineno is really down to earth and a great professor. He's invested in the class and tries to help make class more engaging and interesting for students. Once a conversation starts up it gets really interesting and fun. Pineno is one of my favorite teachers hands down and I strongly recommend you take one of his classes. You won't regret it!
This was an incredibly tough class. His tests are so hard, they're just two essay questions. His lectures are boring and hard to pay attention to but attendance isn't mandatory. He doesn't give you your tests or project back unless you go to his office hours which is annoying. He's a nice guy but I probably would not take him gain.
Prof. Oscar is a really nice professor. The semester is basically divided into 4 parts! 2 written assignment essays and 1 mid term exam (questions to answer) and 1 final exam. His classes are fun and he definitely knows whats he talking about. Clear presentation and all, however you might be discouraged by the long lectures in class.
This class was fun! There is only a midterm and a final with one paper. You have to read the text, the pacing can be fast and it will help you on the tests. He gives one extra credit opportunity based on the paper that you wrote.
PowerPoint of whole class online. He plays very interesting videos so it's worth showing up. He gives the exam questions in advance & gives good extra credit debate opportunities. If you understand the topics, skim through the books, & complete assignments you will do very well in his class. You learn a lot without the struggle. Good class to take.
You basically have the midterm and final which he gives you the possible questions before hand, but he is a tough grader. Especially tough grader for the project/paper
Dr. Pineño is very passionate and witty. Although almost every class is a lecture, the material taught is very interesting. Only 2 papers, a mid term, and a final. You honestly don't need to show up to class because he doesn't take attendance, but it's still worth going for the most part. An A is definitely achievable.
A lot of people dislike Pineno, but those are usually the ones who don't study and aren't prepared for his exams and assignments. If you stay on top of your reading and take notes along with his powerpoints, he's awesome and really prepares you for what to expect for harder psychology courses. I would take another class with him for sure!
Pineno is very attentive to his students, as long as you communicate with him you're pretty good to go. Tests aren't difficult, class is typically engaging as long as the group participates. Honestly a great class.
His syllabus is straight forward & he's a really cool professor. There is a midterm & final, and two papers. He gives you two extra credit opportunities as well that give you a chance to boost one letter grade. Read his assignment rubrics, test questions and textbooks, & you are golden for getting a great grade in this course.
It's hard to understand his accent, at first, but you get used to it. If you pay attention to his powerpoint and read the books you need to you'll pass.
He is an extremely hard grader. If you think life might throw you a curve ball I would suggest dropping the class once you see you have not done well in the first half.
The textbook provides longer examples and clarification if needed, but you won't be lost without it. Expect to work a bit - don't expect to get an A solely on just showing up, although attendance is not taken. Midterm, Paper, and Final. Go to office hours if you get stuck. You'll learn a lot - it's a neat psych class and is not super complex.
Profesor Pineno is a really good teacher. He knows his field very well and is clear when he gives examples, answers questions, and even a little extra help outside of class. He is very structured but not a rigid heartless man. However, he is very specific in his grading which is not necessarily a bad thing
he restructured the class to make it more into a discussion rather than just lecturing which shows that he cares about the students understanding the subject. 3 open notebook tests, 8 lab practices which were easy, and gave extra credit opportunity too. attendance was not mandatory but you should go anyways because the class was interesting.
Nice guy, if you go to class, read the textbook and use the powerpoints this class is a breeze.
Reads off on vague powerpoint the entire semester. The pp's do not go into detail so they are not helpful when it comes to class assignments, so either you were taking notes in class, you have prior knowledge, you google everything, or you free for all. He gets off topic in classes, so midterm and final essay questions seem to come out of no where!
Class was beyond boring. He demands way too much on exams and assignments. Accent is so thick you can barely understand his lectures which are not worth going to. Gives extra credit as a way to justify his harsh grading policy. Made everyone in class by his novel to write a paper. Do not take this class, he single handedly ruined my 4.0 psy GPA.
He uses the powerpoint and does not go in depth. The questions on the test he gives in advanced but they are confusing and are hard to get the complete answer
Class has the potential to be tough, but getting an A is more than possible. You get 10 points on your average just for showing up to class on an assigned day. Take the class seriously and you should do fine. Also, make sure you take advantage of the option to send in a draft of the assignment, this saved me from losing 20 points.
I found the class very easy to follow and not really that hard
Class is extremely difficult. Gives extra credit but not nearly enough considering how harsh he grades exams and term paper. Major assignment is based on his novel (yes, you have to buy it) which was a painfully bad read. Textbook is dry and puts you to sleep. Grade does not reflect effort in this class.
He's a good lecturerer and there isn't any busywork in this class but I would say that he turns a lot of students off to his subject area because he makes religious students feel as though they cannot reconcile their faith with science. Also he makes this course more of an evo-psych course than it is a general perspectives of psychology course.
Should have dropped this class when I had the chance. Attendance not mandatory, but going to class is useless. Harsh grader but gives Extra credit. Get ready to read HIS novel or you won't pass the main assignment.
The class will definitely give you a run for your money. The tests are hard but you can do well if you really try
Dr. Pineno is the BEST!!! He teaches the material so well and clear. Any questions you have, he is very kind enough to answer them during class and during his office hours. He wants you to do well! He even provides you with extra credit to help raise your grade. I would recommend him to any psychology major student. You'll enjoy his class! I did!

He is leading on what he wants
Avoid this professor .Psy 110 is useless and exams are way too hard. Yes the rumors are true, he makes you buy and read his novel to write a paper which he will scrutinize without mercy. The book was bad. If I read the phrase "we, humans, ..." one more time I would have dropped the class regardless of consequences.
Professor Pineno is an amazing professor. He is the most challenging professor that I have ever had, but he spends a lot of time making sure that his students understand the concepts. Tests are tough, but only because the material is tough. Attendance is mandatory, but it is extremely beneficial, as powerpoints can only explain so much.
Dr. Pineno gives A LOT of information, yet attendance isn't mandatory and there are only 3 assignments. So if you aren't keeping up with the material, you'll be sorry when the midterm comes around, like I was. For the paper and final, I actually read both the textbook and his book, which saved me (I aced the paper). I regret not doing that sooner.
Extremely harsh grader. He says to just answer the question but that is not nearly enough. Going to class is useless because you still can't understand what is going on, and the testquestions come out of left field. You would have to spend hours a days on each question to make sure you get the full credit on the exam. Save yourself.
-pineño is very knowledgable and is a very good professor and is willing to help only if you personally put in the work -only have 2 tests and 1 paper, so your grade is only based on 3 grades which can be tough -attendance is not mandatory -participation is not part of grade -material is very difficult and requires a lot of time to understand
Steer clear of psy 110 and this professor
If you're expecting a professor who gives you an A for the bare minimum, think again. Sure, attendance is not required, ALL the notes are online, there's EC.. You still need to prepare well for 2 exams/1 paper. He is fair/awesome and gives you resources to excel (i.e. potential questions and feedback on draft). Use em! Your grades will reflect!(:
I thought he was good overall-- his grading was a little odd and could be more specific, but the class was enjoyable and the papers interesting.
There are only 4 grades in this class (1 midterm, 1 final, and 2 papers), attendance isn't mandatory, and even though all the lectures are online, I would definitely suggest going to class. The material can be a little confusing at times, but he really tries to get you to understand. Read the books, I didn't at first, and my grades reflected that.
Dr. Pineno was one of the best professors I have ever had. You're graded on 3-4 tests that are open-book, and the lectures cover all the topics on the quiz. He is an amazing person to just have a conversation with. He truly loves when students participate and are interested in topics in class.
If you come in late he will call you out, which is kind of rude. He grades you on 2 papers, midterm, and a final. The assignments can be confusing because he is vague. His lectures kind of relate to assignments but not completely. He is a strict individual. He gives you a list of test questions before exams so you will be prepared.
Dr pineno is such a cool professor, he's easy in class but beware of his tests and assignment. You have to be really detailed to do good in the class. 10/10 taking him again
I struggled with this class also...I agree Professor Pineno is pretty tough but he does offer extra credit and he is very particular, so make sure you double check your work and you will earn the full amount of the credit, a lesson learned for me. He also has office hours, so use them as I did too. Waiting anxiously for my grade now :(
This dude is on fire! if you are going to take any psychology class, it better be with him! yea, he's a hard grader but go to office hours and talk to him, he really helps! use the extra credit too!
It was an okay class. He only grades you on a midterm, a paper, and a final. There is one opportunity for extra credit so take advantage of it. He's a tough grader & you may not do well up to his standards even if you feel you did good. He can be rude too & hypocritical in terms of respect. Overall this class was a bunch of worries.
I took a class with pineno before so i know about how his tests and classes are structured. you just gotta read and focus in in class, he will call you out for being on your phone but its for your own good. Nice guy when you break the ice. Take this guy!
One of the easiest classes, professor is very laidback and understanding. It gets boring sometimes
Dr. Pineno makes it very clear that there is no attendance, but I highly recommend coming as he is funny and makes the topic interesting with videos and examples. The class isn't too hard and he offers extra credit that will definitely boost your grade.
dedicated professor. 2 assignments, 1 midterm and 1 final. He is a tough grader so make sure to read the books and do the extra credit. If you put effort in easy A. He does have an accent but he's easy to understand. All notes online and attendance not mandatory. emails quickly and offers rough drafts to help students. Enjoyed his class
everything comes straight from the book. Extremely difficult grader and hard to understand. Over complicates things from the text. 2 exams one paper. wants you to go to office hours to show you care.
His exams are open notes, open book, open everything. They are extremely straight forward. You can learn a lot in his class if you really pay attention and comment on what he is saying. I found his sense of humor to be funny. The only homework is his lab practices which are easy as well. If you do everything that needs to be done, you'll get an A
best professor at harvard
Everything is open notes. Grade is dependent on 8 lab practices (5 points each) and 3 exams (20 points each) Gives an extra credit assignment so need to worry about doing poorly as long as you hand everything in. Class can get a bit boring at times because with everything being open notes. Do your work and you will do well! Funny guy as well
This class is literally impossible to fail. All tests are open book and he even allows you to use your computer! At the end of the semester he gave us 10 extra credit points just for writing a small essay! He can be a little dirty and offensive as a lecturer but overall I would deff recommend him.
The exams are really easy because he provides you with 8 essay questions he might ask and then he gives you a choice of answering 2 out of 3 on the exam itself. His lectures are straight forward and the powerpoint is extremely helpful. The biggest downfall was that he did not allow computers for note taking which I understand.
Attendance was not mandatory, but I went to every class so I wouldn't miss anything. His lectures were pretty boring, but he's very funny and shows a lot of interesting videos. Midterm and final were pretty easy because he provides candidate questions ahead of time. He does have an accent, but it's easy to understand.
Dr. Pineno can be intimidating at first, but once I got to know him, I came to realize he's a true gem. He's SO caring. He is very accessible outside class/via email, all exams are open book (read the book though), and lectures are pretty interesting. Psychology in my opinion is a pretty dry subject, but he made it interesting/relatable. Take him!!
Professor Pineno is honestly an amazing professor! His lectures are interesting and he shows a bunch of interesting videos! He makes lessons relatable and his exams are pretty simple! I would definitely take this class again!
The class is impossible and it gave me such bad stress that I had a migraine that lasted 3 days. The prof gets trigger happy and the class feels like some sort of game hes playing. Youll work 7 hrs on an assignment to get a 20%. It should not be offered online. It stalled me and I regret even trying.
Professor signs his comments with 'Cheers' which is pretty rad; I've taken it quite literally, so I down a pint each time. Anyways, class is a bunch of no worries. If you can read you should be good. No ragrets.
He is way more understanding in person than he is in online classes. This class was excrutiatingly difficult. He helps out in the end with some easy extra credit. But up to that point it feels hopeless. Maybe it should be on campus and not online for a class of this nature.
this professor should not be in this field. he is egotistic, rude, insanely difficult for no reason, and has favorites.
I disagree with the comment below. I attend Dr. Pinenos lectures everyday and I am fully immersed in how he teaches psychology. He is often interactive with students and adds plenty of humor and interesting facts in his lectures. He is a very fair grader given that this class is OPEN BOOK for all exams. He is very kind and often humorous! :)
Professor Pineno is thorough in his lectures about each topic discussed. He gives understandable examples and makes the class enjoyable. He has great humor and keeps students interested.
He is a great prof! Really keeps the class entertaining ! Tests are open notes BUT you should still always read the textbook.
Super hard grader. Has open book tests with impossible questions. Honestly so rude and disrespectful. I would take this class if you have insomnia because he will put you right to sleep with his boring lectures! Then he will yell at u and kick u out of the class lol. He is wild.
Psych 101 is my favorite class due to Oscar. I really appreciate the way he teaches and his honesty. You can tell he is a genuine person and very fair and honest. I hope I can take a class taught by him in the future. I feel there is a lot people can learn from him. I think he way more than qualified to teach Psych 101.
Dr. Pineño is an amazing professor. His exams for this class are open book so attendance is not mandatory but his lectures are interesting. He is very funny and he is my favorite professor this semester. There isn't a lot of homework either. I would recommend that you take him.
Amazing professor! Truly love his class! Attendance is not mandatory, but I would recommend going. He explains everything thoroughly and interestingly and clearly knows what he is talking about. Always cracking jokes which makes a lecture actually enjoyable. Yes it is open notes, but no that does not mean you don't have to have some basic knowledge
Currently, I am in Professor Pineno's T/R night class. He is a very passionate teacher and spends a lot of time explaining the material to help students understand. He is funny, a great person, and tries to keep the class interesting. Disregard all negative comments, this class is very enjoyable. He really cares about his students and their success
Attendance isnt mandatory. Tests are open book and all the answers are on quizlet. Only a couple assignments every other week and they are only 150 words long. You dont even have to show up to class and youll pass. Hes a nice guy too. Very funny and his accent is adorable.
Hes so rude. He limits our word count and gets mad when we go over. Totally unfair grader, gives incoherent explanations and expects us to understand.
Omg I absolutely this professor!!! He is so sweet and funny!! His lectures are so informational and he makes lectures fun and easy to understand!! I'm currently in his T/R night class and he honestly is such a good professor for someone teaching a night class :) Tests are open book and attendance is not mandatory, but they're still fun to engage in
I loved this class so much. Professor Pineño is an amazing person and definitely my favorite professor, his lectures are fun and attendance is not mandatory. The tests are open book and we have minimal homework. He is really nice and I loved his class,
Professor Pineno is easy-going in some ways but very difficult and demanding in other ways. For example, attendance is never mandatory, gives good extra credit and all exams are open-notes and open-computer. Although, he is very tough when it comes to grading homework and slightly blunt/rude. It is not the most difficult class though,
The most unprofessional professors I've had at Hofstra. His answers to private emails are subpar, then sends out passive aggressive emails to the class. The bright side is that everything is open notes and attendance isnt mandatory, but hes more rude to you if you dont attend. He's unprofessional, rude, and doesnt read your work. Dont take him.
Professor Pineño has an interesting, sometimes eccentric, teaching style, but in that he makes it a joy to go to class. Im never really bored, and he always is willing to answer clarifying questions. The grading and expectations are incredibly clear. I couldnt ask for much more.
Hes is a great guy and a very good teacher, he knows the material well. I struggled in the class ,however he was always there for help. You need to put in the work if you want it.
Hes a really funny man and a very great man. Although Ive heard some questionable things about him hes been a really great professor overall and genuinely cares about you and your grade especially if you show up to class!
He's a good professor. If you are a non-major this is a really good and interesting introduction to psychology. All tests are open note/open book, very few homework assignments, and extra credit. You really can't go wrong.
He is a really nice and funny guy. He tries to make class engaging and make it fun for the students. His tests are hard but they are open book which makes up for that. He really cares about his students and loves what he teaches. Hes passionate and makes class fun always.
Be prepared to read your textbook and pay attention in the lectures. Attendance is not taken, however do not be late because it will disrupt the class. If you miss class you will miss a big portion of what the professor says on the lectures, although lectures are posted. This is not an easy class, personally. Just READ AND STUDY, and you will pass.
Professor Pineno is a great professor and has a very clear grading system with 3 exams and eight lab practices. Attendance is not mandatory, but lectures are interesting so I would suggest attending. Compared to other professors, he is very easy-going but can be strict about assignments, so just follow instructions carefully.
Dr. Pineno is very passionate about what he teaches and is a great professor. Even though the class is lecture based he really tries to engage his students and make sure they learn as much as they can in his class. Do the lab practices and do your best on the tests (open note/computer) and you will pass the class!
Learning and Behavior isn't an easy course, especially if you're a student who doesn't want to spend a lot of time learning specific theories. However, I think Dr. Pineno does a great job making the material accessible, even this past semester when everything was moved online. He's a great professor who is very passionate and engaging.
OSKAR. Is his name btw. He is not leaving you with an easy A, you have to do the work. Tests are open book/computer which makes it much easier. Lab Practices however are the most annoying part of your grade. Although they are easy, there is only a day to do them and Word limit counts. I reccomend doing them right after the class that it is posted.
People are saying he's a bad teacher and honestly he's not. Attendance isn't mandatory but it helps if you go. His only homework is barely once a week and its due on Saturdays. Tests are open book, so use the textbook or even the Ebook version.
Professor Pineño is one of the best teachers Ive had. He makes class enjoyable with his humour and lectures. Attendance is optional, but I look forward to going to classes as the lectures are interesting. Grading consists of 8 lab practices and tests, which are open-note. I would definitely recommend taking one of his classes.
Ignore any other negative comments about Prof Pineno. Here's the real deal: he's an amazingly sweet and understanding professor & funny as hell. When it comes to grading: open-book/open-everything 3 exams, 5 easy 1 pgh little assignments on the side, attendance not mandatory. Bad reviews here are just stingy lazy students willing to do nothing.
Dr Pineno is incredibly intelligent and has had a lot of success in the psychology field. He's passionate about the subject. However, he can often be condescending and sometimes rude. The only grades are the 5 exams and 1 extra credit assignment. Overall, he is a fine professor in a difficult subject matter.
He's honestly not that bad of a professor. Upfront he looks like an aggressive teacher but when ur talking to him one on one hes very understanding. It's not that hes a hard person just the curriculum is. My one negative comment is the exams its alot of dense reading and powerpoints for just 20 questions its overwhelming hopefully this help someone
He grades the homework very heavily so be prepared for that. The only grades are a few homeworks, and a few tests. The tests are out of 20 points even tho there are 40 questions which is defeating and can be detrimental to your grade. Its also based on a lot of material so make sure you actually read the textbook. Extra credit is nice!
McQ tests, one extra credit opportunity at the end, no cumulative final. People should stop complaining and actually attend class and take notes and with the ec(he almost always gives everyone full ec) you should get an easy A
One of the WORST professors I have ever come across. His only grades are homework due roughly once a week and three exams. Exams are 60% of your grade and the homework is 40%. If you don't do exactly what he wants on the homework, you're likely to get a failing grade no matter the circumstance. Coming from a girl, he is extremely rude. DO NOT TAKE.
OPEN BOOK EXAMS! You don't need to go to class, but if you do he's a funny guy and good for a laugh. He's pretty to the point and will tell you what he thinks. Theres homework but it's engaging and actually interesting, just be specific. Theres extra credit as well. If you got a bad grade thats on you
He is a 10/10 professor! He is extremely knowledgable about his topic and current events/examples making his class interesting and entertaining. His classes feel like conversations about day-to-day situations we can understand better (why they're the way they're) after taking his class. A friend recommended me his class, now I recommend it to you!
During this COVID pandemic, not many professors are helpful or really understand what students are going through. Professor Pineño is not one of those professors. He is accessible out of class and wants to see his students succeed. Do the work, and your grade will reflect the effort you put into the class.
Follow the syllabus and you will get an A
Try to go to class everyday
pretty insensitive ngl, thinks his class is more important even if u or u have family members suffering from covid. if youre pre med/pre dental, id stay away (trust me)
I have taken professor pineno for 2 classes since I loved him so much!! He is a really good guy. If you put in the work, you will get a good grade. His class is very fair and he is very clear about his grading. He is super understanding and an awesome guy if you get to know him! I highly recommend taking him for any psych class you can!! Best prof!
I don't know if I signed up for this during the wrong semester or what but Oscar Pineno is the most insensitive professor I have ever had in my life. Gives a 0/5 for assignments with no explanation and does not care about his students at all. Does nothing for students that are struggling/concerned with grades. Do not take psych with this professor.
I took Pineno for Psych 1 three semesters ago because I saw he got good reviews on here. I regret taking that class with him & it killed my curiosity of psychology. You can write a whole page for homework and get 0/5 points on the assignment because your point was "wrong". His grading system is messed up and he's very insensitive. DONT TAKE HIM.
Professor Pineno is the best!!! I joined his class late in the semester and Im so glad I did. He is an awesome professor and makes the class enjoyable to attend. I definitely plan on taking him again!
There are a few things: He doesn't put out too many things to grade, Tests are super important, Reading is crucial, my biggest issue is that the professor is too political. In lecture he will bring out too many political examples which in theory have nothing to do with psychology.
Overall a very good professor, class could be a bit lecture heavy and redundant. But test arent too difficult if you pay attention and study. Were online for us so they were also open book. Do the extra credit! Can really help to improve your grade
If you can, take Oskar! Class started out in-person then he moved it to zoom for better participation/discussion. 3 tests, 8 lab practices, extra credit and a research requirement (fairly simple). Oskar is very understanding, funny, and knowledgeable and did his best to keep class engaging/fun. He wants you to succeed. I plan to take him again.
Professor Pineno is a great choice for your psychology classes. You can tell that he really cares about his classes and hes very knowledgeable of the material. His classes are a good mix of lecture and discussion and hes very accommodating and easy to get in touch with. He has a great sense of humor and is always willing to help you.
great professor
Very entertaining lectures, interesting topics
Professor is very passionate about what he teaches so this makes the class interesting. Despite the class being mainly lecture-based, the professor does try and get conversations going which I appreciate. Your grade in this class is based off of 3 tests and 8 labs. Be prepared for lots of reading and long lectures.
He understood hybrid classes were a weird situation and tried his absolute best to work with it. 8 short assignments that he looks for specific information, so pay attention during the lecture (he gives hints). 3 exams (open book), a research requirement, and extra credit. He's super accessible outside of class. Take his class if you can!
Loved this professor!
I took this professor for a one credit course. There was no outside work at all except for the final which was very short and based on participation. A bit opinionated but other than that for a 1 credit course it was a good experience.
Professor Pineno was great! He made his lectures really interesting and connected current world news and events to each chapter. Only a few exams and 8 short homework assignments. There is an extra credit opportunity at the end of the course to help your grade. I found this course and professor really engaging and looked forward to coming to class.
Professor Pineño is currently my favourite professor. His style of teaching is very direct which means that you will learn exactly what you need to learn for the tests and the assignments. He is strict when he needs to be but also very understanding. I recommend you take Professor Pineño whenever a class is available.
Amazing lectures!
One of the best psychology professors there is. If you have the chance to take him you should. Behavior modification has 2 tests and one paper which isn't too bad to write. Easy A if you put effort into the class. Understanding and caring with the current pandemic.
Professor Pineño cares about his students, his lectures are well formatted and encourage open discussions in class. The lectures also go along with the lab practices he assigns ( total of 8) and the exams are textbook based ( 3 exams). I would 100% recommend him, hes an amazing professor very funny and makes the best out of online lectures .
I thoroughly enjoyed taking Oskar's Intro to Psych class this semester! His lecture style is very helpful and he gives you all the tools you need to succeed in the course ahead of time. He is harsh about deadlines, but gives you plenty of time to complete assignments. He is really nice and I am taking another class taught by him next semester!
A great teacher and class overall.
He is very strict, he does not give a lot of work but he will NOT bend on deadlines. The 8 labs are 40% of your grade but he does grade them harshly after the second. Tests are really easy, open book.
Dr. Pineno's class is very easy and laid back. Attendance is optional and tests are open book. Definitely a great professor for an intro to psych course. Take him if you can!!
This is my third class with Dr. Pineno, and I honestly cannot recommend him enough. His lectures are extremely clear, and he explains everything so well. If you study and pay attention, youll do great. Lots of EC too! Some say hes harsh or mean, but thats only because they didnt do their part as a student and like to blame the Professor for it.
Good teacher, funny as well. Switched to online part way through the semester. Didn't take attendance when we were in person. Most classes were lectures on the power points.
Very tough grader on lab practices and expects very specific answers while giving a vague question. He's honestly really rude to talk to and is NOT helpful, doesn't care if you're doing badly in his class. He sometimes has his funny moments and also moves so quick in class that you barely have any time to write it down. Would not take again
Very good teacher
Great professor! Very accommodating and understanding during first semester back from Covid. Glad I had him!
Pineno is honestly a real gem. Maybe it was covid or my prior knowledge to the course but super easy class were talking like really easy. Lectures r really fun, attendance isn't mandatory, There's 3 exams: 20 points each super easy if you take notes and familiarize urself with the material. Also 8 lab practices super quick & easy, each is 5 points!
Only 3 grades in this course, however there is an extra credit opportunity. Even if you didn't do well on one, the extra credit is enough to give your grade a decent boost. You have to pay attention to understand the course material or you will have a hard time. However, he's interesting and a fun teacher so it's not a problem at all!
Professor Pineno is a really good teacher. Tough grader on lab Practices. Test are easy and manageable. Very very nice person! Give you second chances. Lectures are interesting and he responds quick to emails. Over all , hes a amazing teacher and a good person. You can get a A in this class if you keep up with it and read his feedbacks.
One of my favorite professors at Hofstra, he is really caring about each student performance in the class. He is really nice when you speak to him during office hours so im not sure why other people think otherwise. Take him great professor!
Take him! One of the best professors for psychology.
Meets one a week for 50 minutes. There's one assignment at the end of the course: you record a 2 minute video of you talking about "Amusing Ourselves to Death", a 166 page book. Although this course is extremely easy, it is also very fulfilling. I learned a lot about how social media affects our society, and have rethought my approach to it.
The tests are really hard, be prepared to study a lot for them.
He's an amazing professor. Long lectures and gives homework occasionally and the answer is in the lecture. Discussion heavy so just speak up. Not hard to follow along. Amazing person too
I took this class during the pandemic and found it very easy.. honestly I went to class very rarely and didn't study at all and still got a decent grade. Pineno is a great professor and makes staying awake during his lectures more bearable than usual. There's 3 open note tests and 8 lab practices that I got a 100 on every time.
I enjoyed Dr. Pineno's class very much! He facilitated great in-class discussions. He did encourage and expect people to participate constantly, so be mindful that it is a very participation heavy, discussion based class. Overall though, I really enjoyed Dr. Pineno as a professor and the class was extremely interesting!
I took him for two classes this semester (PSY01 being the main class) and I found them very easy and doable. You can tell that Pineno is passionate about psychology. My only critique is that he can grade sort of harshly.
I did fine in this class but for some reason I really hated it. I found it extremely lecture heavy and found myself not focusing very much. There were only 3 grades and the extra credit really does help your grade. He was fine but this course was boring and on the paper lost points over the littlest things. Can be really rude in class.
Dr. Pineno is one of my favorite professors at Hofstra. His intro course is test-heavy but he offers an amazing extra credit opportunity to bump your grade at the end of the semester. Pay attention and ask creative out-of-the-box questions and you'll do great (i.e. participate and actually be interested don't just focus on "passing").
Would definitely take another class taught by Dr. Pineno, as he explains concepts well and I felt like I learned a lot in his class. I recommend taking this class with him, just be sure to study up on the concepts you learn to get good grades on the labs and tests! This will help in the long run.
AVOID AVOID AVOID AVOID worst prof at hofstra and anyone here would tell you
This is THE WORST professor at Hofstra University, no joke. He is literally SO rude and his tests are so specific and long for absolutely no reason and he doesn't even tell you what he's looking for. LOVES to humiliate his students. AVOID AT ALL COSTS.
He's rude to everyone, never ends on time, refuses to negotiate grading, his lab practices make no sense, he is arrogant. AVOID he is terrible
Can be very rude with students, and is very unreasonable in many situations. Lectures can be quite dull. Lab practices are graded in vague (and unfitting) ways. Tests are relatively easy on the other hand. Avoid if possible.
I took this for learning and behavior and everyone told me he was really difficult, but honestly as long as you just show up and listen, youll understand everything. Also, you will do so much better in this class if you participate and keep your camera on and he will literally love that you do.
This guy is amazing, literally all the negative comments here are just some crappy majors that usually get As handed on a silver plater. Tests are easy and open note and labs are iffy but he offers 10 points extra credit in the end.
Professor Pineño is awesome! He has an ample understanding of every topic and is dynamic in his classes (videos, discussions, etc.). He gives an extra credit assignment for the end of the semester which is optional. His tests are about the topics learned and are fair. Would take class with Professor Pineño over and over again!
I really enjoyed this class. I will say we learn a lot in one class so it is a lot to remember.
Great guy, great class. Learned a lot and he made it interesting
Chill professor but tests are formatted in a hard way. Even though it's open note they don't make sense.
Overall, I liked his class, and he is super respectable.
You don't have to go to class. Tests are easy. Have to write 150 words like once a week but they're easy prompts.
Dr Pineno is AMAZING!!!! HE HAS SOOOOOOO MUCH KNOWLEDGE IN THE FIELD, and he makes the class sooo entertaining and fun to attend. My class ends at 8pm, but idc I enjoyed every minute of it. He was amazing, and im gonna miss him sooooo much. TAKE HIM ITS AN EASY A
One this i really need to emphasize i make sure to do the lab practices within 48 hours of it being assigned. i really enjoyed this class but did not follow a few of the lab practices the first few weeks and it really ruined my grade. really nice professor
Oskar is great. There have been many times where I laughed out loud at one of the comments he made. Make sure to take extra care when doing assignments--he wants it all and in psychological terms. If you take time and read the textbook, you'll be prepared for the exam. The material is dense, but he tries his best to make it more fun.
Very clear with what he expects of his students. Be sure to keep up with the readings and study for the exams, as there is a lot of material. He makes class enjoyable. Take the chance to have a conversation with him outside of class, he's a great guy with an open mind & a good heart. Answers emails promptly. One of my favorite professors at Hofstra
Oskar is one of the best professors at Hofstra! His exams for intro to psych were all multiple choice and open notes. He is lecture heavy, but he keeps it interesting. Little to no homework, barely had to use the textbook. The slideshows were very detailed and helpful. Highly suggest taking intro psych with Oskar! Such a nice guy and approachable.
As an online course it wasn't too bad. He's straightforward and the only grades we have are from tests, which aren't hard if you pay attention in lecture. He did post a majority of the slides so that's helpful. Overall I liked him and have no complaints, he doesn't force anyone to participate but participating is a good move in his class.
Honestly, do yourself a favor. Find a different professor. He's rude, his grading makes no sense, and it's really easy to do poorly.
I enjoyed the class and I definitely learned a lot
Nice guy very informative and knows a lot about the subject
Great Professor, he has realistic expectations and is straightforward.
Its just annoying because he grades the homework so harshly and thats 40% of the grade
Difficult and easy-to-fail tests. Do not slack off on the reading or you will fail. Do not miss a test or you will fail.
Great professor, funny, and engaged. As long as you pay attention in lecture and study a little before the tests you're chillin'
Dr. Pineno knows what he's talking about. He is funny, and makes class enjoyable. He can be a bit difficult if you're dealing with matters outside of class, but if you work with him he's fine.
He is very funny and the material is challenging but reasonable with no homework
Oskar was a very knowledgeable professor to have for PSY001. He spends the entire 2hrs lecturing. His tests arent crazy just make sure you study. The material is pretty straightforward as long as you put in effort. Participation isnt graded and he'll never cold call. He's pretty chill and funny. Definitely a cool guy to have for PSY 001.
Professor Pineno is funny, very knowledgable, and is a great teacher. The only complaint I have is that this particular class has 5 exams that he bases one's entire grade on. I wish some percentage of the class grade took into account perhaps participation or homework--which would encourage us to be more engaged in his wonderful class
I struggled extremely hard in this class and Oskar Pineno was never there to help me succeed. I would ask him for help and he would either brush me off or ignore my emails. I misunderstood one assignment due to his miscommunication and he gave me a zero and did not allow me to redo it. I definitely do not reccomend.
Very rude! Man needs to get his attitude in check! hes not even that good of a professor, very boring, doesnt make the class interesting at all, id rather do anything else than this class.
I took Dr. Pineno's PSY001 course and chose to take his PSY011 course as well because he's a great professor. Barely any homework, interesting lectures, and he likes to crack jokes and show interesting videos. Obviously if you sleep through class or sit on your phone, he'll call you out. If you're serious about psych, he'll teach you everything!
I took the course in fall 2020. No assignments just 2 tests and a paper (not even hard if you show up and pay attention). He makes the course enjoyable and cracks jokes a lot. Extra credit toward the end of the semester based on the paper you have written.
Oskar was a really cool professor to have for PSY 001. The class was very lecture heavy but we did sometimes have discussions on pretty interesting topics. Take him for any psych class you can!
Comes off as rude at first, but is actually not too bad. You do not have to attend class at all, but his lectures are interesting. Exams are very easy since they are open notes (PPT slides, notes, Google, etc.) Just be very careful with the lab practices which are short 150-200 word assignments on psychology concepts; these are graded very harshly
I took this class because I'm super interested in the topic. He made it easy to understand the lecture material. However, extremely unclear grading policy. He gave us a huge paper, 40% of our grade, and gave us barely any guidelines. He says he'll work with you, but doesn't. Also very rude in general. Do not recommend. He was funny sometimes.
This is my 2nd time taking Professor Pineño. Really intelligent and funny guy. Not only does he genuinely care about his students, he is really sweet and understanding. He is also really accessible outside of class and will always be willing to help you out.
Best Psychology Professor at Hofstra!
I really enjoyed Professor Pineño's class. He presents his slides in class and makes real-world applications with relevant examples that make the material easier to understand. He was easily accessible outside of class, and you just have to reach out to him. He is really respectful and hopes the same from his students.
Definitely not having him again as my professor. He is incredibly rude, he would answer his students "you thought WRONG" after they would give their opinion about the topic lol lowkey funny but also uncomfortable for the person asking the question. His grading criteria is not clear, his instructions are confusing, he is a very harsh grader.
Very little experience working in the field which makes him unable to answer students' questions. He is rude, demeaning, and condescending to students. Makes you feel stupid when you ask a question and is completely unreceptive to feedback. Save yourself the struggle, he told us "the grade has to hurt now" but it doesn't if you don't take him!!!
On the very first day of class Oskar told us we do not need to attend class, he does not want to waste our time and we dont want to waste his. That being said, i went to nearly every lecture, am i sure this helped me? Not really. Tests are open notes and the text book just takes a quick google search to find. Overall, Oskar is funny and enjoyable
I was really nervous about this course but he is the BEST professor I had this semester. He gives NO quizzes (only 3 exams the entire semester). All the exams are online and open note/textbook. He also doesn't give a final! He makes lectures super fun due to his personality, showing videos, having real world conversations with students
Overall I would recommend this class. Two tests and 1 project. The project is graded pretty hard but he gives extra credit to help your grade. The tests arent bad if u pay attention in class. Attendance is option but going to class definitely helps to understand the material.
I took PSY 011 for my major requirements, and did not regret it at all. Attendance was not mandatory but I never missed the class. I loved this class so much because I find it very useful!Every lecture was supported with video example which I really found so helpful! Prof. was so caring and always willing to help if you ask for help! Great person!
It was a good class and the lab practices are easy, I just always had a hard time on exams.
Dr. Pineno is overall a kind professor who is passionate about the material he teaches. While the class is lecture heavy, he is always willing to answer personal questions in office hours and provides feedback so you can improve your work. The course load for this class is light, but you gain relevant knowledge from each lecture. I Recommend!
really easy class. show up and write one paper that is about 2 pages. no tests/quizzes. he's a lot if you're rude so basically don't be on your phone or fall asleep in class. he cares a lot about professionalism so make sure your emails and interactions with him are respectful. i've taken every course he's taught at hofstra and he's really easy.
The lectures were interesting and engaging. Exam answers come directly from the textbook/slides which was helpful as exams were open book. Lab practices are graded very specific to what is mentioned in the lecture so it is important to pay attention to specific examples. Easy class if you pay attention and put in some effort.
Profesor Pineño makes sure he can help all his students to the best of his ability. His office hours are very helpful!! Like any other class, as long as you put in the effort, make sure to block time for studying, and complete the assignments, there should be no excuse for getting a disappointing grade.
Though attendance in the PSY-001-04 is not mandatory, it definitely helps to show up since you'll have a better understanding of what will be going on in the class and what to do for the Lab Practices. A lot of the time the professor would also make some good movie recommendations and almost always has either an interesting or funny video to share.
This class was very interesting and provided me with very useful information. If you have a question, just ask him. Some say he comes off too rude to ask, but if you email him he will respond, you just have to try. Open notes test but you still need to understand the material. 2 test, 1 paper, extra credit (really boosts your grade).
He is an amazing teacher and will make you want to come to lectures. He is always trying to teach the topic with many fun videos and likes to create class discussion, so it is never a boring class. He wants to make sure u understand the topic. Exams are open book but it is a good idea to read the chapter/review slides because its alot of material.
Pay attention to the lectures and read textbook. He is very fair, clear, & nice. Its not a hard class, but its not a cake walk either.
I would take another class with this professor, the lectures were interesting and the tests were all open note. Gives a few assignments but they're not that bad, it probably took me less than 30 minutes to do them.
Professor Pineno is actually a really understanding professor despite what may other students may say. He always responds to emails very quickly and i think he is a fair professor. His exams were open book and open notes. In this class there is a big research paper that may be graded harshly but extra credit was provided that made up for the grade.
Prof Pineno can be very intimidating. He talks a lot but also knows a lot. He doesn't seem to appreciate others' opinions unless he agrees with them. He doesn't seem to care about mental health which is odd to me as he is a psychology professor.
He has a bit of an attitude problem. But if you can get past that he is very interesting and so is the subject. He does have open notes test which is a plus. He also does extra credit and gives it to everyone who signs up for it.
Not at all engaging, but he likes what he teaches. He makes rude and inappropriate jokes and prefers to tell students "you thought wrong" to actually helping them. Would not take again and definitely wouldn't recommend. Selectively responds to emails and poorly handles situations where he feels challenged disrespected. Unpredictable mood.
He would refuse to answer my emails no matter how many times I would email him about the same question. He made inappropriate jokes. He is not able to take feedback without being petty about it for the rest of the course. Do I think his class is easy? Yes, it is. The hard part is dealing with his attitude.
Lectures are based on the textbook but it gives you a better understanding of what is being said in the textbook. Tests aren't bad as long as you've studied well on them. We've been allowed to look at our notes when taking tests as well. So, taking good notes, understanding the material, and studying should get you a good grade on tests.
Professor Pinenos awesome. Not only does he teach psychology really well but he actively tries to engage the class in conversations pertaining to real life. Its a pretty information heavy class but his tests arent insanely hard at all. Just study, know the material and youre good!
hes super chill
Prof Pineno is a great professor!! Especially after you get to know him outside of class in office hours. If you ever have and question about the material, or want to review a test or project of yours, he makes himself available to meet in person or over zoom, to meet your schedule to the best of his ability. Knows the psych material well. def recc
Oskar Pineno is overall very good at what he does. This was now my second class with him and I did well in both of them. Just be sure to participate and to come to class as that is a large portion of the grade. He talks a lot but his lectures tend to be pretty interesting.
Oskar pineno rocks
Very lecture heavy, but focuses on interesting material. I would suggest also reading the book, only relying on the lectures will not help with the exams. Make sure to take good notes bc you can use them on the tests. In all he is a really funny and understanding guy if you are responsible and respectful to him.
Dr. Pineno cares about his students and helps in any way possible, as long as you take advantage of that. Extra credit helps to boost your grade. As long as you come to class and do the work, the class isn't that hard. Don't miss class and you will do just fine, he gives a lot of information that is useful for doing well on the project and exams.
His lectures are never boring. Uses examples from Twitter and Tiktok more often than not. Gives a LOT of book and movie recs. Three open book MCQ quizzes and lab practices, all easy if you read the text and pay attention in class. Genuinely makes the effort to help you understand. Ask questions in person or over mail, he'll help. Take this class.
Prof. Pineño is really knowledgable and has good lectures. He does cram a lot into 2 tests though. his feedback is good, but you have to kind of pry it out of him. he will help but you need to really show the effort. good guy, just wish he was a little easier to talk to. (its not attitude btw. just level with him)
annoying af with dumb policies. we're in college so why do u care so much about phones? wants u to sit up front and calls u out. easy tests but annoying professor
This professor has policies that apply across the board to/for all students but he fails to understand that not every student is in the same position or predicament as another student. As a psychology professor, Pineno fails to give students full credit for their work if they missed it due to mental or physical illness. No point in making up work
An incredible professor. Used slides to teach and brought in engaging pop culture/videos to explain the material. Classes are not mandatory, but he appreciates the students who show up and the material is usually helpful for his labs. His policies may seem strict with phones, but he just wants his students to focus on the class. 3 easy exams + E.C.
Dr. Pineno is a really funny and underrated professor! He has some strict policies when it comes to being in his classroom, but attendance was optional. He used power point slides to teach each lesson, so do not take this class if you don't like lecture heavy courses. He uses a lot of pop culture references in his lessons, and is easily accessible!
If negative reviews here are made during the semester he will send his classes aggressive, lengthy emails regarding them. He has embarrassed students in front of the class. He once asked a disabled student in my class to put their assisted device allowed by SAS away because there was no available seats in the front row for him to watch them on it.
Nice guy, gets the job done. Kind of a hard class, but he's not trying to make it more difficult.
Dr. Pineno is a really amazing and funny professor! Attendance is optional, though he has strict policies with phones in class. He uses powerpoint slides to teach each class and has a lot of pop culture references. The three exams are open book/notes and the other assignments are really easy. It's extremely easy to get an A in this class.
Prof Pineno is a great teacher for Psych001. He is very lecture heavy and the two hours can go by very slowly. However, attendance is optional. I did not go to >50% of the classes and went on the days the HW was assigned as he clearly indicates what needs to be answered to get full credit. The tests are open txbk/notes/Internet and online. Easy A.
Oskar really makes sure he isn't being offensive and encourages everyone to voice their opinion, which I found very nice. He also owns up to his mistakes. His class is very easy to pass, just do the work and get the research requirement done. He's sort of strict with electronic use. Textbook not needed, tho it comes in handy for some lab practices.
LOVE Pineno! Super funny and caring towards the students who show up to class. Always included jokes in lectures and asked for feedback so he could make it more engaging. Lab practices were the only homework and they're easy A's, just do them! Absolutely recommend!
He grades based on homework and tests which are both pretty simple and straight forward. He really tries to keep the class interesting by including modern pop culture references. He is very strict about being on time and cell phones but, overall it was a good class and I would definitely recommend.
Oskar is a great professor, he assigns very little work, all test are open notebook. He knows what he's talking about and sounds very professional. He makes me want to continue with psych in the future.
hes probably the rudest professor i have ever had. does not care about his students and will give smart remarks towards everyone in the class. the class was rly easy tho so its worth dealing with him. also doesnt accept late work.
Professor Pineno is a great professor. He is very knowledgeable and makes the class easier and more interesting even though the material is difficult. You are only graded by 5 exams, which are all online, multiple choice, and open book. Attendance is not mandatory although I definitely recommend it if you want to actually learn.
He was probably the worst professor I've ever had. He has a huge attitude and embarrasses students in front of the whole class. He clearly does not care about his students. He was insanely rude. The only good part about his class was the tests were online. Did not like him at all.
This Professor is condescending, mean and unfair. You cannot win with this professor. He degrades students and does not explain his issues. He turns students against each other for points. DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR.
He was not clear with grading guidelines and was very harsh with grading the assignment. Would not recommend.
Extra credit was very helpful, the graded assignments can sometimes be mildly challenging but if you show up to lecture then they should be straightforward to do. You'll get full credit by just doing what it asks. Only three exams (a few tricky questions) and no cumulative final.
Dr Pineno is my highness. I took all of his classes throughout my time at Hofstra and everything was straight forward and his assignments were easy. If you know what you are doing you will get an A in the class. If you have a problem with him it's most likely because you dont know what youre doing. Take him for your psych classes if you can
Professor Pineno is a great professor, I have taken him a few times already and I am taking my last winter class with him as well. He is a clear and fair grader, he has helped boost my grade when I communicated with him. Pay attention to his lectures and you will do good on his exams.
He can be very rude, his lectures are so long and boring. Smartass with students and is strict with grading without giving clear instructions.
I have taken Professor Pineno two times and I would definitely take him again. Attendance is not mandatory but if you show up and pay attention during his lectures you won't be able to fail. He is lenient with most things and also gives extra credit. You're graded by a few exams so the extra credit really helps. There is also no cumulative final.
The class itself is hard enough but the professor will just make it more difficult. Good Luck.
I do not recommend this professor at all. He is extremely rude and has an unnecessary attitude. He is not open to students asking questions in class and often embarrasses students in front of the whole class. His grading criteria is unclear and he does not seem to care about his students at all.
I wouldn't recommend this class If you can get another professor do yourself a favor and do that.
Doesn't like when you have your own opinion that is different from his own. Makes inappropriate comments and what he says goes, nothing else.
wouldn't recommend.
I promise there's a better professor for this subject don't even waste your time
never again
just don't.
One of the easiest classes ive ever taken and I only went to like 8 lectures. 3 open note exams all MC and a few homework assignments make up your grade. He doesn't take attendance but make sure you go on the days he assigns hw because he will lay out everything you need to answer in order to get a good grade (he is an absurdly picky grader)
OPTIONAL attendance!! 3 open note exams in person online. 8 Written assignments, make sure you look at the textbook to receive full credit. If you want the extra credit, make sure to show up to class around when it is assigned because you can only get if you're there. You aren't graded on so much so make sure you do well on what there is.
granted I took this class over winter break so the class was asynchronous, but the guy did nothing for the class. He didn't record any lectures and he didn't even grade the exams himself. you - "This dude got a B and he is mad about it." Well, yes, but he doesn't try and then grades hard with the average being a "D" for the final paper.
there really wasn't a lot of communication despite the class being asynchronous. crammed a lot of material into two exams which were pretty difficult. graded the final essay a little bit too harshly
Dr Pineno puts a lot of the responsibility onto you as a student. He does not force anyone to come to class or prove that you are keeping up with the material. Some people are not used to this, but if you are a good student you will be just fine. Only graded on midterm, final, and one paper, but offered extra credit. Accessible outside of class
I wish I was given a different professor for this subject
He is an amazing professor!!! He is super funny and laid back, he has a few rules but if you follow them you'll be fine!
He is so funny!! He is one of the best professors I've had here at Hofstra! As long as you put in the effort, do the work, and follow his rules you will get an easy A. MAKE SURE YOU DO THE RESEARCH!!!! don't wait until last minute
If you show up to class, and actually pay attention, then it's an easy A. The professor has a very broad spectrum of understanding about his subject, and never leaves a quiestion hanging. All tests are MC and litterally off the notes.
Save yourself and don't take him. He will call you out in front of the whole class and embarrass you for even touching your phone. Only good thing is that attendance is not mandatory.
Not the best professor. The rest of the psychology department are great professors but Professor Pineno is very angry. Often makes smart remarks towards students, and should not assume all students taking this course are first-year students. Good luck.
tricky guy makes you believe that its gonna be fun and easy but as the semester goes by you realize the mistake you have made. I thought I could take the chance with this guy and maybe it wasn't so bad as he says.. wrong. Overall, i got unlucky with this dude, my advice just pick whoever besides him. JUST DONT FOR YOUR GRADES
n/aa a a
His lectures go over less than half the material you need to know for the HW and exams, and he expects you to learn everything else on your own! He constantly goes off topic in class, and any snow days / cancelled classes will result in an entire unit being skipped that will STILL be completely on the exam. Don't let this professor deceive you!!!
Lectures miss key material, so you'll need to teach yourself. Attendance is mandatory, but unstuckstudy ai and the textbook can help fill the gaps. Overall, a challenging but manageable class.
This professor knows his stuff and classes are interesting. Hes is not bad but can be a bit demanding at times. Make sure to pay attention and take good class notes if you want a good grade. He grades fairly.
Make sure you have a voice in the class or you talk to him one on one or else it will be easy for him to show you no empathy. His narrative of his students are strictly based on following instruction and if you do not give him another narrative of yourself he will not create on out of caring. I personally do not like this in an educator
He is a cutie, which is the only reason he gets a two. 😏
This teacher is extremely rude, unhelpful, and seems to want students to fail. Tests are very difficult and often exclude content from slides or the textbook. He's also very temperamental and will kick you out for being just a few minutes late. If I were you I would not take this course because he seems to be the only teacher for it. Take another
This course was fairly easy to understand. The slides are on Canvas so it's easy to go back and look at them if you missed anything. He doesn't take attendance but don't take this class if you aren't going to show up. He gives examples and videos that can help you better understand topics. 1 paper + 2 exams. Read what's assigned, it will help you.
Principles of Learning and Behavior was one of the harder psychology classes I have taken so far. It is very important that you study for the tests extensively, which includes reading the textbook. As a professor, I thought Pineño was great, funny, and very knowledgeable. It is a hard class, so be prepared to dedicate a lot of time outside of class
Overall, the topics covered in the class are interesting, but I didn't care for the professor. I felt the lectures dragged on even after we covered everything we needed to. You only get graded on three things: a midterm, a final, and a paper. Unfortunately, he no longer offers open-book exams, so they are online, with a locked-down browser.
This is a course to take only if you are good at following fast-paced lectures. The only grades are based on 5 20-multiple choice question tests, the questions of which are a mix of simple recollection and complex application. The professor is nice, but also fosters an environment of fear and discontent. Not the most accessible education method.
This class was the most difficult class I ever had to take. The exams were online with lockdown browser and all the material we learned in the class was never on the exams. Many people struggled so bad. He yelled at a kid for coming into class one min late and kicked him out. We are not aloud to use computers or cell phones. If he sees you, u r bye
This was one of the hardest psychology courses I've ever taken. Grading is solely based on 5 exams. The exams were hard because the way the questions were asked commonly tripped students up. A lot of people complained about his attitude & education methods. He constantly went off on students & also occasionally made inappropriate jokes in class.
He clearly carries a lot of knowledge, but had some emotional moments that were highly inappropriate. Your grade is based on five exams, which can be quite challenging unless you study and practice questions from the textbook after each chapter. Not easy, and while he is well-educated, he needs to adjust his temperament and approach.
hes very irritating. marked me late when i was one second after he took attendence for the whole class. he is one of the toughest graders and takes points off on the most ridicuolus things. Even gave me two zeros on both labs in the begning of the year when i wasn't in school for a holiday. not even in my control. he didnt care. passive agressive..
