This course is difficult no matter what, but he makes it a bit easier on you by working with you, your schedule, and offering extra credit. He's a young professor, so he relates to us, but knows the profession well. He will give you honest feedback and offers TONS of help! Don't miss class, it's hard to keep up. Expect long work nights on projects.
Professor Jenewein is great! He definitely impacted me and gave the Studio a rigorous year which was worth it. Even though he is young as compared to the other Professors. That didn't impede him from being innovative and creating one of the best learning environments! He taught all that was essential and most importantly gave his students Passion
I feel like you could definitely tell this was Oswalds first semester teaching just because you can tell when someone is inexperienced. However, he did have good ideas behind projects he assigned. Be aware of the amount of models assigned and due in such a short period of time, and also the amount of changes per project makes it hard to keep up.
Anyone in Architecture knows studio will be very demanding. However, Oswald made the semester very fun despite the intense workload. He's very passionate about architecture and making sure we are learning as much as possible. He will do his best to make our projects better than the other studios. Plus, he's from Austria which is cool.
Oswald was a great teacher and I am glad I was able to take him. Not only will he stay late in studio helping students but gives great feedback. He's a working architect back in Austria which makes him passionate about his teachings and gives you advice that you can use in the real architecture world. Would take again for sure
Taking Oswald is a great learning opportunity for you. He taught our studio a wealth of information and skills we would not have been exposed to for many more semesters to come. In addition to that, he also encouraged us to explore our projects more differently, and challenged us constantly to thinking critically. Your portfolio needs him.
Oswald is a great teacher. I feel like I have learnt more in this semester than I have in the three previous ones. Oswald has really left a lasting impression on my life as an architecture student especially with the introduction of software. I have learnt skills that I will keep with me for the rest of my life as an Architect.
He is smart and very knowledgeable on a lot of architecture software. Expect HEAVY workload! Too many projects in a very short time, compare to my previous classes. However, I learned a lot. If you want to learn architecture software, don't hesitate to take this class. He is a good professor.
got to learn a lot of softwares like autocad, rhino, sketch up, photoshop and in design. Most of my portfolio will have stuff from this semester. He is very chill and you will enjoy the class if you will be open to experiments and ready to work hard. He is in studio all the time. If you want to impress him, just talk about Zaha.
Oswald is the type of professor that will be there for you if you ask questions. Expect a lot of changes to projects and some of them will happen at odd times at night on days you don't have class. Studio will become your second home as there is a lot of work given in a short amount of time.
Lots of work but worth the hard work. You get what you put in for the most part. Overall good guy.
The best of the best. Though his unending support and presents somehow, at times, will leave you scrambling for inspiration, it is only because of the strive to do something equally as great as his leadership. Oswald is a machine in the way he facilitates a collective growth in creativity and professionalism. But you can only use it if you use it.
Oswald's class was a breath of fresh air in the school of architecture. We were 80% digital, learning programs such as Photoshop rhino and autocad. Oswald was always there for us when we needed him, and always had great examples of ideas for your projects. I felt that I learned way more this semester than my previous semesters combined.
Is invested in the idea of the studio being a team. The studio culture in his class was amazing, best you will ever have, and together we based our projects on the basic principles taught in ARCH 2551, and also applied the overall semester concept of typologies to the projects. Would be a mistake not to take him, if truly interested in architecture
I am glad I took his studio. Being able to learn programs this early will come in handy next year. Oswald is always at the school so he will help you when you need it. He is very passionate about architecture so if you are to, he is a great person to have these conversations with. There's also lots of work but it will prepare you for the future.
It is imperative that you do your best to finish the projects on time. He sets the expectations up front. His class wasn't easy, but it was worth it. No pain, no gain! He is a talented professor, being taught by him was a honor.
There are two sides to Oswald. If you make friends with him at the beginning of the semester, he will be there support you, day and night, get you in his professional network and promote your work for all to see. If not, well.. Let's say his kind of dedication takes time and there is not enough time for everyone. I did not get his good side. Shame.
Being taught by Oswald was inspiring. He made me become passionate about architecture. We worked as a team, rather than compete, and he supported us 24/7. We used Autocad, Rhino, Photoshop, Illustrator,Indesign, the lasercutter and the 3D printer which is perfect to prepare us for the future. He is hilarious with a great accent. Would take again!
Great Teacher, engaging and very helpful in the design process. Only improvements could be his clarity on the assignments and more time in the development process.
Risky professor! He either likes you or not. If he likes you he's going to help you in every way and you're going to enjoy his class. .. If not then he's going to ignore you the whole semester, and he's pretty much not gonna care about you. Either way if you work hard he's going to pass you, not with a good grade but you still going to pass
This class was one of the hardest classes I've taken so far and it made me question my sole purpose on this planet. The work load was really intense and I learned very quickly that soon enough my life was this class. Despite the dramatic change in my lifestyle, Oswald made it all worth it. I loved all of it from the assignments to studio culture.
Oswald has a talent for connecting with students on a level that lets them try out new things without a fear of being repremanded. He is one of the most genuine professors I've ever had in terms of the way he presents himself & the feedback he gives. His studio pushed me mentally & physically, but made me a better designer overall .
Professor Oswald wants you to push yourself to better yourself. He understands that the skill level of oneself can always be improved which is why grading is tough, but in my opinion fair. You need to be able to accept criticism and not argue to try to "explain" what you "wanted" to show. The class was something, not just anything. Good.
A great professor that is always available and constantly encouraging you to think creatively, spatially and with purpose. It's a slow burn but overtime the projects become more interesting and fun. The workload is a bit heavy but worth it because the final outcome is always much more better than what was initially expected.
You won't be just any student in a class but a person with specific skills and he tries to push these skills to the limit. He'll work with you not against you. It's great to have a European Professor since he gives a different perspective not just in architecture but culture overall. He is really funny so class is never boring.
This professor is someone you HAVE TO take if you have the chance. He is the only professor here to include computer programs into the assignments given. Very approachable, very kind, and is VERY interested in different cultures. If I was in your position, you reading this, I would exit this website and apply right now before his class is filled.
Oswald is one of a kind professor in UTA. He is very creative, imaginative, critical thinker, and friendly. You will learn a lot from him. However, taking his class could either motivate you towards your career or tears you apart! Failing his class is possible if the assignments aren't done. Sometimes he doesn't give equal attention to his student.
I have definitely learnt a lot in his class in terms of concepts and softwares. He is definitely a hard grader but that helps you pace yourself since Architecture school is all about deadlines. Definitely take him, he helps a lot and creates a very different studio experience altogether. He is open to new ideas and helps you.
Oswald is without a doubt the most accessible professor in all of CAPPA. Good thing he is not paid by the hour because the school would not be able to afford wages. He is always ready to help and give back feedback. He will introduce you to new programs that are helpful for the remainder of your school career. He is VERY easy to communicate with.
Instead of belittling you, he makes you feel like your presence and ideas are worth something of value. Encourages a positive and collective studio culture in order for ideas & knowledge to be shared among classmates. Gives useful and applicable feedback as long as you communicate ideas with him and show that you care about your project's outcome.
Truly an Outstanding Professor that I encourage anyone looking for a challenge and to be pushed to learn about Architecture, Culture, Technology, History, and Society as a whole to take part in his future classes. And the Greatest part? I believe the best has yet to come and those that came before you have taken the falls for change to happen atUTA
I think Professor Oswald is the right architect that you should meet in your life! His passion about design techniques, tools, and principals is an inspiration. I have learned about new designing theories which improved my designing skills. He also taught us the necessity of having progress in our life!
Oswald is a multi-dimensional professor. Just like architects yearn to bring to life a fourth dimensional idea to their projects, Oswald does the same with your education. He is the perfect guide to a collective and rewarding education that you will forever reference. Be prepared and motivated to travel to an element of uncertainty.
Great professor. Professor Jenewein provided a good course environment. His teachings were effective and always helped in the course material. He was always available in his office. If you asked for help you received it. If this class was a building structure it would collapse. But the outcomes were always good as long as you continued working.
People live in the boundaries they create for themselves. Oswald creates his own boundaries and breaks them. Creative and challenging professor. Always helps when you need help. If you are trying to become a better designer - this is the studio that will help you get there! Be prepared to not sleep and spend a lot of time in studio. Cool guy.
If I've learned one thing from Oswalds class.. oh wait. that was nothing. Nuff said.
This professor has been the best professor by far of my college career. If you put in the time and effort, so will he. I can say that I have really progressed since the beginning of the class. A great experience overall in his studio, definitely worth taking.. It's all about parts coming together as a whole. Everything can be related in some way.
Taking his class is one of those experiences that you'll look back on and appreciate later. His class is CHALLENGING, and makes you work hard, but it's also very fun. He encourages his students to talk to each other and help each other out, and tries to keep the assignments low budget. It would be a shame to miss the opportunity to take his class.
Best studio environment. Can't start class without music. Lots of work but it doesn't seem that way because of the vibe. Never had a professor so accessible or approachable no matter what time it was. He's a tough grader but it makes you work harder and submit your best work. I wish I could take him again in the spring.
Oswald studio's is truly a collective process. Studio had a great atmosphere which really encourages you to be completely immersed into studio life. Oswald does expect a lot from his students but the outcome and the skills I have gained are priceless. Oswald gives a lot of time and effort into studio and is really appreciated by his students.
A lot of studios are tedious because the professor is so unmotivating and derogatory, but Oswald made studio an amazing experience that I will never forget. He inspired me to give my absolute all every day for each assignment, and if I didn't take his studio I would not have grown in knowledge in the same way that I did this semester.
Oswald is a good professor over all. However, he sometimes talks to his students about subjects that have nothing to do with studio work. You can ask him anything in this world and he'll be willing to answer you. He treats his students like his friend because he's young, and that's a good thing. This professor is very young and very knowledgeable.
Shallow teacher only cares what faculty think of him, going as far as holding your grade hostage until everyone rates him "positively". Gives students several extra assignments if your his "favorite" just so you make up for his look-alike's lack of effort. Makes students tell him what is said behind his back under the threat he'll find dirt on you.
He is very unprepared for class always giving vague assignments then change them and making you pull all-nighters to finish. He DEMANDS you pull all-nighters and most of the time he just stays there trying to gossip. The thing about demanding a positive review is true his exact words where and he communicates almost exclusively on Facebook
He's very unprepared for class always giving vague assignments then change them and making you pull all-nighters to finish. He DEMANDS you pull all-nighters and he IS always visiting to primarily gossip. The thing about demanding a positive review is true "Immediately and positively" and he communicates almost exclusively on Facebook
Oswald is a great professor, I have learnt a lot from him and he has really prepared us for our future studios both with the content and introducing a lot of new software we will use in the real world. If you have the chance, take him, it will be well worth it.
Loves to gossip this split up the class for most of the semester.
Tough class. Got no sleep all semester, spent many nights in studio. Often oswald seemed unimpressed with our work until receiving feed back from other instructors. No clear grading rubric so be prepared to get random grades.
There are few teachers that will let you explore your own unique style, Jenewein is definitely one of them. If you did bad obviously you hate being critiqued and you can not take compliments well either. Jenewein brings in staff and allows you to show case your skills. Jenewein exposes you to arch techniques. Glad I to have taken this class.
Never had a better professor. If you pass the chance to take him, you will definitely regret it. He provides you with everything you need to know and more in order to thrive in this profession. If you want to have the upper hand in any category, specifically more contemporary ones that are actually usable, then there is no other choice at uta.
Oswald Jenewein will take you to the next level in your education and career. He is not afraid of pushing the limits of what you can do. If you show effort and enthusiasm, he will give you in return a great educational and collective experience. Something uta soa has never seen before. Take him while you have the chance!
Favorite studio so far! Oswald makes sure the studio environment is great, and cares a lot for his students. He is willing to help you 24/7 on your project if you put the energy and commitment to it. Take him if you can!
Such a great professor! I am very glad I had the opportunity to take him. He cares about every single detail about our projects, from the design concept to the way the project is exhibited in the halls. Really appreciated Oswald being willing to help specially after studio hours.
Genuinely cares about his students and is the most accessible prof in the school. He gives you freedom to express and will challenge you to go further. If you are willing to do the work and come to studio with an open mind he will change you as a designer. Tough studio but worth every moment.
I really enjoyed taking Oswald. One of the best parts of his studio was how different and unique his projects were when compared to other studios, which made our class stand out. The studio really has really prepared me for the future! He is really appreciated by his students!
Oswald is just a breath of fresh air. Not taking him would be your biggest regret. Rather than teaching you everything and giving you the answers, he lets you figure things out on your own which is really rewarding. But, he'll be happy to guide you along the way. Also, let him know you care about the class and he'll make sure he cares about you.
Oswald's studio is very different than any other studios. He wants the studio environment to be friendly and a good experience for students. Gave us the opportunity to present our projects to an architecture firm which is rare. Gives a lot of work but is ready to work with you 24/7. Will even help with work for other classes if you ask.
Oswald is an interesting professor to take, you will not be disappointed when I say interesting . The assignments are delicate and require dedication and time so if you fall back you will have to pull all-nighters. Sometimes he randomly gives out pop-quizzes so do your readings. Ask questions, be attentative , but don't overthink anything .
This studio, without question, played the most pivotal role in my architectural education thus far. I fear to imagine how dull my architectural career would become had I not met Oswald. He is passionate and ambitious and perhaps the only faculty member that genuinely cares about his students. Screw Boswell, Quevedo, McDonald, and the rest.
Pros: -young and ambitious -very personable and friendly -incorporates plenty of digital design methods -makes us do class portfolio -always available to talk to Cons -drags on projects -has us doing multiple projects at once (often because of dragging on) -pretty heavy workload no sleep
Oswald keeps studio fun, it is almost, I repeat almost too much work to finish if you have other classes. That being said, they are the best projects and students are required to think alot. You will learn at least 6 major programs and use them simultaneously. Take this class if you want to have a good time, have great projects, and learn the most.
Oswald by far is my favorite professor. He is always available and having the studio being group based truly allows for a great studio environment. He is very young so he understands the struggles we go through in architecture school. BEWARE, he does give a lot of projects, but if your dedicated, he will make sure your work looks good. Great Prof!
Oswald's class is immensely thought provoking and intuitive. He inspires through his creativity and dedication to his students. He is always in studio, even into the late hours of the night, and always encourages the exchange of ideas. His class is by far the most demanding, and by that the most rewarding studio.
If there's one person you can find in the building at any given hour, it's Oswald! Needless to say, he's the most accessible faculty I've seen. He's creative, dedicated and willing to exchange ideas. Workload is considerably high, but the outcomes are worth it. If you're up for a challenge and passionate about design, Oswald won't disappoint you!
If you don't agree with, and do, what Oswald suggests for your project, your grade will suffer. He told me and another student if we did not incorporate his ideas, we likely wouldn't pass the course. His projects had unnecessary details so he could prove himself as a new grad teacher. He wasn't prepared for the studio project he proposed.
I learned a lot in his studio - if you approach him you'll get tons of good feedback. Makes his studios do great exhibitions!
He's a challenging professor. There's inconsistency in assignment directions and the grading is random. Be prepared to give up a social life and sleep. Unprepared and didn't have answers to your questions.
Once you take Oswald, you won't want to take another professor again. We worked with programs like rhino, v-ray, autocad, etc. and I feel like I'm so much more ahead than other studios. He gives a lot more attention to his students than any professor on this campus; literally, he's always on campus. Take him and you won't regret it.
Oswald, definitely is one of a kind. You have to take this professor once, taking Oswald will be a defining moment of your architectural career. Is personally interested in his students, just get ready to dive into the studio lifestyle, and get to know your classmates personally. I can say I have become a better student from this one semester.
Absolutly fantastic. Original ideas and perspective, easily the most accessible proffessor. Often in studio with us untill 2 in the morning. Very inspiring and creative, and projects are very flexible. If you like a loose classroom this is for you you
He's great! I totally recommend people to take him. If the student wants to develop his/her digital skills, professor Jenewein is the right choice!
He is an amazing and genuine professor. He really makes you think about things differently. He requires a lot of work but in the end the product is worth the time put in. You will be in studio a lot but you make great relationships with other students.
*learned so much! I never imagined myself working with any of these programs so soon *love the presentations for exhibition *relates architecture to the rest of the world
One of the few professors who has a topic that he is passionate about. Will push you to learn techniques/styles/work ethics you are not used to. All of the work is well worth it in the end with excellent content for portfolios as well as outstanding exhibition. If you go into the semester with an optimistic outlook, it will only boost the result.
Oswald is a young professor who can relate to all of his students very well. He makes studio fun and brings everyone together. The work that he assigns almost always ends in a beautiful project. So, trust the process. By the end of the semester, the entire COLLECTIVE has such a "guuuuud" RELATIONSHIP with another it'll make you say "oh my God".
great professor, you're going to learn a lot in his studio. and he really going to prepare you for the next level. he gives a lot of work but in the end the result is worth it, you going to have a lot of amazing projects for your portfolio.
is not supportive, sets the studio as a competition, makes us spend a lot of money. he does NOT have "guuuuud" RELATIONSHIP among most only few. great projects tho
Easy A if you become his buddy. If you didn't get a good grade, ask him after class to change it. Don't have to turn anything in to pass the class. There were students who worked hard and students that didn't turn anything in all semester, everyone passed with a B. Good curriculum, poor professor.
You learn a lot in his class and he keeps it funny. Studio atmosphere is great and relaxed. Lots of software perfect for portfolio!
You get to learn a lot of software but most of the time you would have to use google. Wasnt really on campus after studio, like what his reviews said. Could be reached through facebook but selective on who he answers to. Good studio atmosphere though.
Great studio culture, very friendly and open to suggestion about the direction of a project. You learn programs like InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, Rhino, and Autocad. Everything you make is clean and looks great in a portfolio. He is always available by Facebook and comes into studio on weekends to check in and give feedback. Great TA!
Excellent professor, shows true dedication to his students. Always helpful and positive environment within studio. Class often includes thoughtful discussions, however there's always time to enjoy oneself. TA also extremely helpful and caring when professor was absent. Although professor often changes his mind a lot, provides flexibiliy within class.
Outstanding professor, really makes you work for it. Never have I met someone who is really dedicated and passionate like Oswald is. He will make you appreciate Architecture and see it from many perspectives. Amazing T.A. who is always available and gives good feedback. Oswald truly cares for his students and wants to see them succeed.
The studio was a collaborative experience. There was an opportunity for everyone to participate in discussion and I felt I had a say in how to solve problems. The professor was very helpful, knowledgeable, and approachable. He also made the studio experience way different from any other studio. He created a fun and creative environment.
Great Professor honestly, so glad I was able to take him this spring. Change in ideology of architecture which is great when experiencing new stuff. Great person overall. Listens to feedback and takes it great. Good class environment. Tough class but with determination it is possible to get a good grade. Wonderful experience.
Really cool professor who cares about his students. Projects are interesting and fun. He lets students make changes to the project to make it better. Listens to what you have to say. You can always ask for help if you need any. Just make sure to listen and actually try... and don't suck.
Overall, great professor. Gives a unique perspective on architecture. The class is challenging, but you learn a lot, as long as you try. Don't worry about your grade too much, just do your best and you should be good.
Good professor, good class, good projects.
Really enjoyed the class.
This course was a Study Abroad in Austria. We learned so much on our travels, both culturally and architecturally. Not only did we build benches for a Youth center, we also built friendships within and out of the group. Oswald worked really hard to make sure the program ran smoothly and that no one felt left out. He really cared for us.
Really good projects but if only he had a better sense of direction for the projects. He would tell us one thing and the next time change his mind. Youll get a lot of feedback if he likes you, if not, good luck.
He cares about creating a good studio culture which makes studio a lot of fun. I would definitely take his class again. The outcome is always strong and waaayyyyy better than any other studio. Your portfolio needs him.
Very Difficult class, but very rewarding. You will work hard for an A or a B, but it will pay off. Available often in office or online. Very helpful ONLY IF you work to get feedback. Visit office hours, ask often in class, etc. Best class I have taken, as well as the hardest; but could not recommend more.
Oswald is one of the best professors at UTA and is a must take if given the opportunity. He makes his class enjoyable and something you want to go to, while at the same time giving u constructive feedback and knowledge that you will carry with you throughout your architectural career.
Nice things for my portfolio
