I HIGHLY recommend him.i took him during the summer & d class wasnt all dat hard. he was very reasonable wit d workload. he's very engaging, clear, & helpful. plus, he creates a friendly environment in d class, and respects each and every one of his students. really encourages you to try ur best even if ur struggling wit ur ideas.really great prof.
Mr. Perales is by far the most awesome English teacher I've ever had. He comes to class with a spirit of excitement to learn, which you can't help but feed off of. He makes me love to read, I wish every teacher was that awesome. I can't help but say that it doesn't hurt that he's younger and posseses alot of traits that are very attractive.
Awesome teacher who gives incoming freshmen students a look into reality of our daily lives. Topics are very modern, though provoking, and I absolutely loved it. He won't be the easiest teacher in the world, but in my opinion he's close to the best.
Perales is a great theacher, you just gotta do the work and you will be in perfect shape, he makes his conversations interesting and like for every student to get involved. Very nice teacher!!
Professor Perales is a wonderful teacher who really helped to improve my writing. the reading material is interesting and his discussions are fair and fun. just be prepared to participate or he will call you out on it.
this professor was helpful...to get the a you have to put work into your essays and stuff..i say this class would be pretty easy, due to the facts learned in class every time you attend
If you have any problems with class material Prof Perales is more than happy to meet during his office hours to discuss anything that might be giving you trouble. He expects a lot from his students, wants everyone to succeed, and will put in the time to help you if take the time to see him. Work hard and don?t expect and easy A.
I had him on 07 fall. he is not that well as a teacher. he don't teach that much just give you reading to read and write a respone, but he grade VERY hard on the respone mostly base on grammer and wanted a lot of devlp ideas on it. the same as SA, hard on it. after reading we all have to set in circle to present your ideas. hard on attendance.HARD!
In his class,it fells like hell to me, which makes me never willing to attend although I always do.
He is a great professor. If you are a slacker, do not take this clas. He expects studetns to do all the readings and to have homework done on time. Be prepared to write a lot.
You must come to class on time, all the time, prepared to discuss readings (which are interesting) Participation is a must. Hard grader. Need to put your analysis on readings and in essays. Mid-term & final are from 3-4 readings and a film and has to be 3 or 4 pages. Nevertheless, he is a very good instructor and comes highly recommended
Well since this is his last time teaching 1A, he seems to be failing everyone. I highly do not recommend him. He will fail you even though you've tried.
This class is no joke. Mr. Perales expects every student to be there on time and at every class meeting. You can not bs your way through the assignments you relly have to read, analyze and respond. Very hard grader. He's very cool and very passionate about his job and Enlgish, but very attentive (not a good thing for slackers).
He's young and witty at sometimes. He can be entertaining. He may be a little strict when it comes to grading. But he's always willing to help what you want to achieve. Just ask for his help. I recommend him.
He's pretty friendly and has AWESOME ability in teaching. I love his class. He's REALLY REALLY REAllY cool guy.
His grading is SORTA rocky for what you get. But his grading is very fair and very helpful. But you do tend to get pretty active in his class and it's so not dull where you wander your mind off during the whole class. YOu would get interested. YOu'll have fun when you get into debating.
He is a very hard grader. He enjoys teaching through discussion groups. Emphasizes on having rough drafts and peer editing. You should go to his office hours for advice and you should get a B or an A. I got an A after working really hard. Definitely learned a lot through this class.
Well, I can't believe someone like me got such a low grade at the end.
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS if you want an A. He grades harshly on essays. A lot of writings...
3 Essays 40%, Midterm (In Class Essay) 10%, Final (In Class Essay) 10%, Notebook 5%, Portfolio (Which is also about essays) 15%, Homework (Analysis of the article in the book Prose Reader) 19%, Presentation 1%. If you are confident with your writing, then go take him, otherwise choose another professor.
Okay, so he is a hard teacher, but I learned a lot. He is so into teaching that he makes you want to do well. If you are a slacker, beware!
He's So hot! and he seems hard but if you get on his good side he'll like you and pass you just be on time pay attention and do the work. hes very big on partitipation and group work. really nice guy tho.
Mr. P is so hot and extremely helpful and understanding. As long as you try and want to pass you will he knows his stuff and he knows how to teach.. Mr. P is the best.. I'd Hit... LoL Luv Ya Mr. P
if you want to get an A in your essay dont take him!! his group works are BORING!!
he was a really good professor. He was really hot and i really enjoyed his class, however his grading was to hard, but i still got an B
Very fun class enjoy being a part of it!!!!
he is a great, easy, fun professor...(=
Yea this guy was one of the worse professors I every HAD!!! Never really helps when it comes to questions and always has the same boring themes for all the essay. VERY HARD ON GRADING :<
Hes young enough to really relate to the students. I took him during intersession and even though it had to move at a fast pace, he didnt make it seem all that bad. If you really like group discussions and groupwork, this is the class for you. If taking during winter or summer, prepare for one essay a week, several readings and class discussion.
Perales is easy going. just make sure you turn in your work on time and read the short stories and I'm sure you'll pass. He is strict when it comes to his reading responces, he does not accept late work. overall, he helped me develop my writing skill!
AWESOME teacher, i learned a lot and he does require homework to be on time but it is for the good. I improved a lot and understand better. what he is teaching is important, all documentaries are eye openers! hes pretty kewl, seems strict but its pretty easy just do ur work.
Perales keeps his class interesting because he gets everyone involved. I don't think he grades that hard. Just follow his instructions and his format and you'll do fine. He's a cool teacher. Just stay on his good side and do your homework. It's not that hard.
This is the best English professor at PCC. He is extremely helpful. If you do your homework and the reading you'll do fine! really easy. I would definately take him for ENG 1A! :)
He is the hottest professor on campus. Extremely helpful and his call will make anyone a better write. Plus he makes class very enjoyable. I recommend him to everyone.
he is super cute.
If you actually attend his classes, pay attention, read the material assigned, and do your work, then you will do well in this class. If not, you're not going to do well. If you need help ask for it, he'll help you. This was a great class and the discussions were far from boring. Some things in life aren't given, they need to be earned.
I dont know what the person below me was thinking wen he/she made those absurd comments about Prof Perales. He is the most amazing teacher, extremely clear, always ALWAYS there to help students with anything during office hours, and very reasonable. Class is challenging and he is a tough critic, but overall amazing teacher.
Awesome Professor
Professor Perales is awesome. Really cares for his students. Group discussion is very interesting so many opinions. You learn so much. He is willing to help better yourself within your writing. Do your work, don't miss class, and review notes. You must take him. Won't regret it:)
Mr.Perales is such a great teacher. One of the best i ever had.He is very helpful and such a cool teacher. Knows how to teach really good.I wish all the teachers were like him.
Very tough critic. I was one of the few students who have struggled with English. He helped me become a better writer. He gives constructive criticism that motivates you to keep going. He helps in anyway he can and always available to talk to. The class was never boring and I took it at 7 am. Highly recommend this professor.
This instructor discriminates when you need help; he tends to prefer hispanics over anything. If you're not hispanic, AVOID!
Professor P is one of my favorite teachers I've had. From day one his class was interesting, engaging, and fun. If you are a slacker or struggle with grammar, you will not do well; he is a tough grader. Super awesome professor, who has now set the bar high when I'm rating teachers. He is what teaching is about: making students think and learn.
His class is not difficult. Though, he is a tough grader. I've caught him with a few mistakes. He tends to be prideful and avoids your remark. Given the assignments he's provided, they're fairly easy. But, he's a great teacher and overall, I would've rather chosen him than any other professor this summer session. Attendance is mandatory.
He's a great professor! Also very helpful he cares about his students. Also very good looking! I'd date him! = )
Professor Perales is one of the best professors at PCC. If you tend to procrastinate you will have a tough time in his class. Tough grader but come on this is college its not supposed to be easy.
His class is absolutely wonderful. I am still in his class this semester and he is tough grader, participation is a plus, and homework needs to be on time. Text he uses are very challenging, it breaks any cultural barriers. I am from Cuba, believe me his class has driven my ideology into a totally different level! Ha he is very, very handsome!
Mr. Perales is great, he takes this class very serious and is very passionate about it. I always hated English but thanks to Perales, I feel a lot more confident about my reading and writing skills. I love his concept of teaching. If your not good at English than take him!!! You will learn a lot! He's also not bad to look at! ;)
He is very straight to the point kind of professor. His class is easy if you dedicate yourself to it.
I Highly recommend him.
He was a cool teacher it was very challenging for me because of the stuff i was going through i kind of felt like he had favoritism in his class but it was whatever i took the class again and got a better grade
You will learn a lot from him
Simply AMAZING. Upon entering Eng 1A, my interest level was quite low; I could care less about the class. The level of enthusiasm and dedication that Perales showed made me want to try harder. He even encouraged me once by pulling me aside and saying he saw my potential, and to please try harder. He CARES FOR HIS STUDENTS! Highly recommended!!
Professor Perales is a great instructor, and anyone whom is interested in their education shouldn't hesitate to take his course. He is extremely helpful, and if you truly do the work assigned their is no reason you should not pass.
Anyone whom is moderately interested in their education should take his course. He is helpful, clear, and their is no reason as to why any one whom applies themselves should fail.
Simply one of the best teachers I've had. One can see the discipline and the interest for his students. I would definitely take a class with him again.
Prof. Perales is great...
Let me put it this way, I didn't mind at all waking up early in the morning to have his class from Monday through Thursday on a winter semester for nothing (he was hot) other than that he was a good professor and the topics were very interesting and about things that we can relate to, not like other teachers who make us read about boring stuff
Professor P was by far the best English teachers I've had. I graduated from Pasadena High and took English 100 with one of the worst teachers there, Mrs. Hambarsumian I hated it and didn't learn ANYTHING. But now I truly appreciate and love English and I am ready for 1A.
Mr P loves his coffee in the morning. He's a great teacher with a brilliant mind and his essay topics are actually interesting! "Acting Out Culture" is the book we used at first I thought it was a dumb book but I love this book! Go to his office hours he helps you out! #teamperales
He makes lectures interesting and sometimes jokes around. But make sure you're good at essays! He hates run-ons, fragments ect. I never got anything higher than a C. Hard but good teacher. Don't be late!
I like going to his class. It is very interesting and he jokes sometimes, acting serious but that smile wins him. He is a teacher who is really clear on what he says and goes straight to the point, don't be late.
Prof. Perales is a good instructor. He'll shake your hand if you get an A on your essay. Tons of writing. 5 essays (2 in class, 3 outside, 4-5 pages in length) and 1 research paper (7-10 pages in length with 7 outside sources). Use correct MLA style and master the "quote sandwich" technique and you'll get an easy A. Class discussions were fun!
Best teacher i have had so far in college! Jokes around but gets his job done well! This class is a must take!
He's a great teacher! I enjoyed going to class (when I did the reading assignments). There is a lot of reading but papers are short (2-5 pages). He is a good guy. YOU GET TO WATCH A LOT OF MOVIES!!
he is so bad that i never get better grade in essay if you are not good at english, never take his class i give my essay to the Stanford University professor to let him check and he says i do a great job, but prof. OTILIO JUST FAIL ME i am a good student never chat in class , and always on time for this class i have nothing to say about him...
This professor is not good. He is still young and has so much more to learn, he needs some more teaching experience and skill. He also gives low grades on the essays so beware that even if you triple check your essay and work hard he will still give you a bad grade. Instead of showing movies he should pay more time teaching.
The worst teacher that you could possibly get. I felt pressured in that class and did't feel comfortable to speak out. When you ask question he never gives you a clear feed back and always answers you back with another question. His class was the worst experience in my life. He would always grade me unfairly and would find an excuse to not listen.
Don't mind the red faces, they know nothing. You will appreciate this professor's in-depth views of the topics and lessons being taught. He gives very thought-provoking discussions and encourages you to come out of your shell and express yourself about the world. There is no right or wrong, only an opinion. Read to know, know to succeed. Simple.
Ignore the bitter red faces below. This professor is one of the best ones I've had in a long time. He encourages you to think AND speak for yourself. His class discussions sheds new light on topics people don't really think twice about. If you ask him what you can do to be better I'm class, he gives clear and concise feedback. Highly recommended.
I almost dropped his class but he encouraged me to do better. Great professor really and that cheeky smile always surpasses that sorta strict demeanor. He grades fairly, this is college people! I learned a lot in his class and it was interesting. Thank you professor Perales! :D
Professor Perales is a great guy. He gives great feed back to his students,I learned a lot during his Summer course. His teaching style is the best. I would take his class again!!
Professor Perales is by far the best English teacher I've ever had! He provides great feedback on essays and his lectures are always interesting. I took him for English 400 and 100 and he really did improve my writing skills. I would definitely recommend to take his course.
He's pretty chill and be ready to have good class discussions they can get intense
He's a great professor. His lectures are great and expect class discussions that can get intense which is a good thing. :)
This is a professor to whom I owe my success in every English course I have taken after him and many more to come. To this day I still ask him for help on my essays. He is a "no-nonsense" type of professor and grades with the intent of making you an amazing writer. Ignore the other ratings cause everyone is different and you might end up liking it.
Perales is a great professor. He is very outgoing and really connects with students on a personal level. More than a teacher, he will grow to be your friend. His class is a bit difficult, but it is manageable. Not a lot of homework, although there is a bit. It is mainly discussion based. Shows lots of videos and films. Take him.
He was such a good professor that I kind of want to switch my major to English. He's very specific and his lectures are so informative. I loved going to class because every time it was something different and you seriously learn so much.
I LOVED THIS CLASS !!!!!
I had professor Perales for 400, 100, & finally 1A. He's an amazing professor; his lectures and books are always very interesting. Whenever you are stuck on something don't be afraid to raise your hand or talk to him; his there to help! If i could I would take English 1B with him but unfortunately he only teaches up to 1A. I highly recommend him!!
He is such an amazing prof. He was fun and a little strict, you need a little strict or you have no motivation for class. He gives a lot of reading from the textbook but they are only short stories. He likes to make discussion. He seems very intimidating but after a few classes he is great. Show up and join class discussions they are never boring.
The topics he covered were not bland - they were up to contemporary standards. He seemed to endorse specificity and "getting to the point" when it came to the writing. In terms of Prof. Perales and his concern to his students, I found his personal character admirable. Don't slack off or you'll have to pull all-nighters like I did.
He definitely makes you work for your grade. But is willing to help you if you ASK for help and do the reading. His lectures (interesting) are based on Religion so if you are a religious believer you might not want to take him. On another not he's funny and flexible. Great English professor
I just hope this professor gives better feed back when it comes to essays.
Professor Perales was one of the most amazing professors I have ever taken. I learned so much from his class, you can tell he is so passionate about teaching. I truly recommend taking him for college 1.
Overall a good teacher. He likes to accompany his books/lectures with visual aids. Yes - I mean movies. Read the books assigned and you will pass the class. Books will help you survive an educated conversation in the future, trust me. Tackled solving grammar problems quickly. My one complain, prompts were pretty basic, not very challenging.
Although there were movies, good discussions and grammar lectures. I seem to have lots of problems in this class. The professor had been put too much pressure and I couldn't handle this class. Expects your points to be specific Its way overwhelming if your are struggling in English, He isn't that funny, and will put you on the spot without knowing.
Professor Perales is the best professor at PCC! He makes the lectures so easy to understand. He made me realize so many things through the books he assigned us. I took him for English 100 and planning to take him for English 1A. Definitely 10/10 would recommend him.
Professor Perales is an AMAZING person. He really wants students to succeed, so he'll be there when you're struggling with your essay. Although I only had him for six weeks in winter, I actually learned a lot in a short amount of time. He assigns really interesting books about the world and society we live in. Overall, I definitely recommend him !
I love Professor Perales. Everyday from Monday thru Thursday, I would wake up so excited to go to his class . Winter session was fun because of the interesting topics. If you're not good at English and want to improve then I RECOMMEND him. He's amazing and will honestly help you improve in your writing. Ps he's very attractive ;)
Great Professor! Take him, you won't regret it .
Awesome professor, if he notices a certain group falling behind he will enthusiastically give mini-tutoring sessions. He prints out exercises for these students to make sure the students further develop their writing. I took him during a two month course, although fast but very engaging. Definitely would take again, I highly recommend him.
Great Professor! He teaches the class well and really knows how to make the students participate. However, expect a lot of papers due and group projects/presentations. He makes the class read some really interesting books and articles and also shows some great movies and videos. Expect a tough but great experience!
Best professor in English department. Strongly recommended!
Expect to read and write a lot. Dont slack off and procrastinate because you wont be able to keep up with the amount of work he gives!
Good professor but very tough grader. He is strict with attendance and hates when students are late. Participation matters !! Overall, I definitely wouldnt take his morning classes.
Get ready to write a lot of essays! If you love reading books then this is the class for you!
Very hard grader when it comes to essays!
Hes a funny guy !
Great professor! Definitely recommend him for English. He knows how to explain everything very clearly and gets straight to the point. Take him you wont regret it
Best professor Ive ever taken at PCC. Very caring and understanding and encouraging!
Tough grader and makes you read and writte a lot !
It was super hard to get an A and barely pass the class. Its too much reading and a lot of essays and be ready to be in group projects .
We read 3 books and had about 2 weeks to read them before he went over them in class. If you're not reading a book, you're reading an article, doing hw, or writing an essay. There are a lot of class discussions. There are no notes so, attendance matters. The workload makes this class hard. It will not be an easy A or B but, if you try you'll pass.
If youre looking for someone who knows how to teach and makes the subject so easy look no more ! Professor Perales is the best professor at PCC! He makes the class interesting and knows how to teach the subject very good
I LOVED HIS CLASS! He's a great person and cares about his students ALOT! He does grade hard and expects a lot from you but it's college. if u want to learn then take his class!!! best professor!!
Tough grader but is nice! Communication is what he likes to receive even though he isn't good with it. Super cool professor and his lectures are interesting if you pay attention. Oh and super HOT!!!
I took Professor Perales for winter. To be honest, I enjoyed attending his class and learning from him. He inspired me. The only problem is that he does not care for his students equally. If you are having difficulties learning he will not help you or care for your success.
I took this class feeling a bit doubtful at first because of the books we had to read, but at the end it all connected. I really enjoyed the lectures and how it wasn't just an English class, he involved an in site in psychology . He helps when needed and gives great feedback. He makes you think and one has to put a lot of time into the assignments.
He is a young professor and very awesome. You need to catch up with the reading and participate. He wants all his students to pass so he will from time to time extend homework deadlines to make sure students finish their assessments. Take his class. You will enjoy it! P.S he is so cute, you cant help not to look at him lol!!
He really makes you think outside the box, gives interesting materials and opportunity to debate. Very dinamic classes, also very comprehensive but demanding at the same time. Hard work expected but totally worth it.
Beware! Not only will you enjoy his class, you might even fall in love with him. Seriously, after taking his class I find my other classes boring. He gets an A+.
Very caring professor! He wants you to succeed and if youre willing to put in work youll definitely get an A! Highly recommend best English professor Ive ever taken. Also very nice professor and friend. Ps you wont regret taking him ;)
read 3 books. final, midterm count each count for 30% of grade. two formal essays. you'll be fine if u read the books.
For Spring semester, we read around 4 books and didn't follow the syllabus completely. We had 4 essays, did around 6 assignments, wrote in a journal everyday for about half of the semester and a 7-10 page research paper. The final and midterm were just essays based on books we read during the semester.
If youre expecting an easy A this is not the class for you! Expect to read a lot and also participate.
Avoid at all costs
Makes the subject super difficult would not recommend at all. Get ready to read !
Worst professor ever!! get ready to read and be in lots of group work. Expects too much on essays and is not afraid to fail you. Wants you to print out the book thats more than 200 pages long in paper "to save money". Otilio should stick to teaching English 100.
10/10 would not recommend! He assigns more than 6 books to read and write essays about. If you havent take English 100 then Id recommend you do because he will mark you on your grammar !
Professor Perales has very interesting lectures. He inspires his students who are there to learn and He is always willing to help. Do not listen to the negative comments below because clearly you can see, who ever wrote it struggles in English. Take Prof. Perales because you will love it!
English 100 has prepared me for the success I will have in Eng 1A and I have Prof. Perales to thank for. At first he seems a little intimidating but you will see that he is an awesome professor that only has his students best interest at heart.
Prof. Perales is the best professor at PCC. Everything about this class was fun. We read a lot of interesting books and wrote essays (what English class is all about) I can only recommend him to students if they are willing to do their homework and attend class because this isnt high school where you get an essay A.
I had him in the summer and he is a demanding prof., but I needed a prof. like him. He wants his students do well. He's very understanding, so don't hesitate to ask questions. I learned a lot about writing. I also learned a lot from the readings he gave us, they can be applied to life. I recommend him only if your willing to give it all you got.
seriously do not take this class, he is super hard and made the subject so much harder. Regret taking his class so much. I retook this class with another english teacher and got an A, be wise and take someone else.
Perales is probably one of the best English teachers PCC offers. Hes understanding and is very welcoming. He helps students out with their writing and gives interesting content to write or read about. He is a bit hard when it comes to writing, however he will help get you where he wants you to be. Definitely recommend.
Great Professor, even though you'll have to read like 4 books. You don't read the whole book though. He is a really caring professor and he is very approachable. Participating in his class is sort of expected because he wants feedback from the books.
I took Perales for both English 100 and English 1A and I can say that without a doubt he has been the best English professor I have taken. He made us read amazing and inspirational books and although his grading is not the easiest, he makes you work for it until you get an A. He may seem intimidating at first but he is actually really fun.
Be sure to read everything he assigns, since he will have discussions about them. He can tell if you take his class seriously or not, which may affect your grade. He's very stern but caring. His class is not hard at all, aside from the in depth discussions that require an in depth analysis of the material. Overall, you'll learn a lot from him.
Perales so far has been one of my favorite teachers at PCC. I have taken two of his classes so far and I definitely recommend him. He's a great guy and a great teacher. He's a bit tough, but he will definitely improve your writing skills. Overall, as long as you're prepared, it'll be worth your time.
Perales is one of the best professors I've ever taken at PCC. He truly cares about his students and their desire to succeed in his class. He makes topics interesting and encourages his students to participate. Very inspirational.
With his reviews, I thought he would be a really good professor. I think you can tell if he likes you or not. He is a really tough grader and does not help much when it comes to essays. Expects you to discuss. Assignments are only essays with no rubric so you have to do really well.
You'll get an A in this class if you consistently ask him for help on your essays and improve! Made me too insecure to ask him for help until it was too late. I wish he taught us how to think more critically since it was a struggle to have discussions in the class & worsened my anxiety when he pushed to speak up. Grades solely on essays so read!!
He doesn't care about how you feel. He doesn't see how hard of an effort you poured into your essays. He will pick on you.
Professor Perales is great! His expectations are always clear, & he's always open to talking to you if you need more help. The books & articles he chooses for his courses are really interesting, & relevant to present-day topics. Before COVID-19 we watched movies in his class too. Lot's of in-class writing and discussions. Wish I could take again!
Mr. Perales is by far the best English teacher I have taken at PCC. He is so knowledgeable on so many different topics and is super caring toward his students. He wants you to succeed and will help you in any way possible! The coursework is easy but will make you think and his lectures are fun and engaging all while being informative as well.
He is genuinely the only professor I've ever had that made me enjoy English. I say this with full honesty because I never liked any of my English classes until now. 5 essays total this semester. no textbook but there are 1-2 books you'll have to get. The topics are super interesting too which makes you look forward to the assignments :)
Professor P was honestly my absolute favorite teacher. Even online he made me feel seen, valued and motivated. Truly had a great experience. Had my thinking all semester but all in good work and fun topics !
He's pretty easygoing and very understanding. The essays are long and hard to grind through but showing up to class helps a lot, and his feedback is pretty clear.
one of the best English professor. He helps and cares about his students. He even accepts late work so don't give up. His class style is very simple: 1. watch movies 2. read articles and discuss in the class 3. write essays
Great professor. If you want to get an A in the class, reread and triple-check the assignments' requirements. I loved the readings we had, they were insightful and intriguing. Would definitely retake him.
Prof. Perales's class was very straight forward and organized. Assignments were clearly outlined and easy to do. There are lots of discussion posts (but not too long) and three essays. If you are an organized student who doesn't need a lot of hand holding, hands down the best English class you could take.
Just a great, down to earth dude. Honors college 1 was a cakewalk. It's technically English heavy, as well, so I'm pretty sure he's the same in english classes. Take him.
I took his online course and I liked it. He gives good feed back, telling you what you should watch out for in the future. Read the rubric or else you will lose a lot of points but overall I would this course again.
Professor Perales bases his ENG1C class on film in literature, so you watch films and write papers about them. Some of the articles you have to read are tough, but you do group work to get through it and he's easy to talk to / easy to reach outside of class. There are some mini assignments and five major essays, do not procrastinate, participate.
This class was a great experience. Professor P really made the material engaging. I used Unstuck study and the free textbook to stay on top of things. Highly recommend!
Professor Perales is such a wonderful professor. He cares deeply about his students & he is more than happy to help if you reach out to him. He doesn't give you busy work but you will have readings. This is college, if you are willing to put in the work he won't hesitate to help. If you are having trouble with your essays, please ask him for help!
Professor Perales was amazing! The majority of reviews are correct about him, its not like he is not tough, but as long as you do what you need, you'll be good. Your grade is very essay-heavy but he is not a super tough grader as many say, the lowest I got out of the 5 or 6 essays was a 95%. Definitely recommend him!
Pretty nice guy, you can tell he loves this class as he's a huge film junkie. Large readings for the movies you watch but his essays were not bad just make sure you follow all the criteria.
Very monotone professor. Nice guy but his classes are extremely boring. Watching movies is cool but other than that its very boring. Doesn't grade things right away and doesn't post updates on canvas. He wants you to go into class and hear everything there.
Doesn't read emails or communicate with students. The final book for this class has nothing to do with English.professor gave no clarification on book or help with class work at all. every class there is in class writing. If you don't talk in class he doesn't grade you nicely. If you don't give the exact response he wants in class he calls you out.
Best English teacher I've had, a great guy to talk with and gives you great feedback on your essays. You can tell he wants you to succeed in writing for the rest of your life. Great guy, if you are on the fence about taking him just do it.
Amazing class to take for your first English class when starting college, highly recommend this professor. You have 3 essays to write and an annotated bibliography and even just showing up and listening preps you very easily. The topics discussed are clear, the class discussions are helpful and he provides a lot of help for a hybrid class.
Professor Perales was okay but he is very monotone. I took AP lang and AP lit in high school receiving a B in both, but i didnt really see the feedback he gave on essays useful. However, thats just me. I honestly i think he passed me out of pity tbh. He seems like a chill guy and is knowledgeable about films and tv shows.
