don't take this class if you haven't had chem before. it is taught as a review. don't ask otis questions he will embarrass you in front of the entire class. he is funny but he is a jacka**
I failed Chemistry at my high school, but I passed this class with a "B" and did hardly anything. Otis is a good teacher, he knows what he's doing - from what I hear he's billions times better than the other guy who teaches this course.

Otis is a very clear teacher, and he does his best to make sure his students do well in his class
Tests were very similar to the practice exams he gave online (make sure u write all those problems and how you solved them on your cheat sheet that you get to use and u should get an A). Regular quizzes, but they're online & you can use whatever you want
Otis really had awsome experiments that actualy made it worth while going to class, But once I figured out I could pass the class with out even going to class, I never attended class again except for the exams.. and I got a B in the class.. I'm glad I got
Awesome guy. He told me to come back when I'm 21 and he'd buy me a beer because he electricuted me in class. And this was 2 years ago. He's got a very entertaining lecture... magic shows and all.
Doesnt slow down or pause at all. Guess youre just supposed to understand and go on. Some say he's funny, I see him as entertaining but annoying as well.

I literally went to less than 5 classes, other than the exams, and I received an "A". Otis was crazy although I didnt see too much of him. If ever class was like this college would be amazing!
I never went to class except for the days of tests. He posts the tests before hand with just different numbers, couldn't get any easier.

I had to drop Chem in hs and I got it in this class. Labs were fun, magic tricks were cool!
Otis is one crazy guy! He gets a little annoying but he makes the class fun. If you study the quizzes and practice tests you will get an "A". I recommend this class because it beats anything else.
Otis giftwraps you a C. Honestly you have to work to fail his class. Earning an A or B requires only minimal effort, especially if you have any kind of high school chem background. Otis really is a crazy guy so he keeps things interesting.
I can't tell you anything that everyone else hasn't already said. The class is really easy. Labs are a joke, I remeber doing some of the experiments in junior high. I did not have to put much effort and in the end I needed a D on the final to get an A.

Chemistry may seem easy to most, but i found it very hard because i am not interested in math or science. It is nice that you get to use notecards for the tests, but the tests are only 20 questions so if you mess up answers, it is easy to get a horrible grade. I will be lucky to get a c in this clas

So crazy! He doesnt explain anything at all. Just runs back and forth on the platform, making no sense at all. Possibly an easy class if you are already familiar with chem, but I got my first C ever in this class!
I never liked Chem in high school, but I had no problem getting through this class - Otis keeps you awake in lectures, the labs were a piece of cake, the online quizzes are basically the tests, so make sure you write them all down on your cheat sheet!

He's a great professor, but I thought the material was hard. You just have to study. He is a very funny man and his little experiments were great. You definitley know something is coming when you see, "Watch Otis do stuff". It's funny.

Made class interesting and kept me awake. I hated chemistry before I came into his class, but now I wouldn't mind taking another chem class.
Sometimes hilarious, sometimes annoying, sometimes a jerk. Cool in-class experiments. Lets you use notecard with anything you want written on it for test. Make sure you study alot though, because he rushes over some concepts that he thinks everyone already knows.
Dont take chem at ISU unless u get Otis. Lectures are boring, & dont help with all the online quizzes. You r pretty much promised a C but getting a higher grade requires more effort. Labs r a joke. Try and get friend's quizzes from the pervious semester, a lot of the material is repeated.
Otis has interesting lectures and he allows note cards for tests and the final. But if you didn't have a good chem teacher in high school it's kinda hard. I felt like i was teaching myself, but overall it's not a bad class.
The instructor is basically the worst I've had. He is extremely unhelpful and his lectures don't go along with actual questions he will ask on the test. He rambles about pointless things, and he isnt really an instructor...he tries to play the role of entertainer. Bad, BAD class, Worse Teacher.

The notecard's great, the class sucks. He doesn't teach a whole lot, making learning the material pretty difficult! He's very funny at times. He's passionate but if you don't know much about the subject, its way over your head. I went in there having a solid chem background and still was lost.

He is a cool guy and tries to make the class fun, but fails at teaching. Pretty much forget about going to class and just copy the exam reviews word for word and use them for the exams (b/c he allows a note card). You should do just fine.
Otis is a very cool guy, especially for being 60-something. He geniuenly cares about the students and makes chemistry, my most hated subject, managable. Learn the material and the tests will be easy.

Otis wants you to do well so take advantage. DO THE PRACTICE TESTS, MAKE NOTECARDS, GO TO HELP SESSIONS, GO TO CLASS AND ASK QUESTIONS! It is sooo easy if you do this. I got an A and am not that good in chemistry.

Made Chem easy and I don't even like Chem! If you have to take this class, try to get Otis. He keeps things interesting!

Pretty enteraining to watch, but hard to understand. Jumped around from subject to subject. Let's you use a notecard on all the tests. Doesn't help students during office hours, you have to go to the UCLA for that which really puts me off with a professor.

Otis is an awesome guy! Really funny and random. But the fact that he's random makes it hard to follow his train of thought, so you kind of have to figure out the work for yourself. As long as you know the steps of how to do a problem, you'll be fine cuz his tests are just like his online reviews. GO TO THE STUDY SESSIONS! And do all the labs and lecture quizzes for easy points to boost your grade.
Otis is awesome. He uses a wide variety of vocabulary and moves quickly through material, but his class is good. Too bad he will be gone next year.
I did not understand chemistry going into his class, and I don't understand chemistry now. He is horrible at explaining things. I failed his class, and I wouldn't consider myself dumb. But if you don't know much about this subject, you won't learn anything from him cause he's bad at teaching it.
Otis (as he tells us to call him) was totally enthusiastic about the material and really made it interesting... plus he was a chemist for the Army - could he be any more qualified?!?
if you have never taken any chemistry b4 this class then it might be a struggle because a lot of material is just whipped through, and its hard to follow what he's saying. but it was pretty easy if u go to class, do the all the quizzes, and do decent on the test, then ur guaranteed at least a B. he was quite an interesting teacher & we'll miss him
This class was great. I didn't think that it was too hard. If you go to every lecture, it will really help. Also, you get to have a notecard for tests, so that helps a lot.

Pretty easy, labs are once every other week. All the exam questions are off of the internet. Lectures are boring but worth goind to.
This man is crazy. He'll keep you interested with his enthusiasm, but he barely explains what the hell he is SCREAMING at you about. He loves it when people participate. He once said if someone answers his question he would pay them a dollar, and he did.
this class was a waste of time and the teacher was much to confusing to understand, the labs were easy but not worth much. I retook this class with Professor Alisha Sawson and got a B.

It doesnt matter since Otis has retired but I took this gentleman's class back in the 80"s. And he is the reason I went into teaching. He was what a teacher should be back then. I give him an A+
