He is super sweet, very understanding and a brilliant teaching. His style is so different from any other professor that I've ever had. He is more interested in you learning and coming up with your own ideas.
This is the worst teacher I've ever had in my life (this isn't just because I'm a poor student who complains about work, I made all A's in my other classes and got a C in his). He constantly changed the expectations on the syllabus. Tests were impossible to study for. He never brought my past work in for me to study off of. His assignments were ver
very time consuming and often useless because the test was so far away from the class disussion and assignments. He couldn't control the classes behavior. It was mpossible to calculate your own grade. To sum it up, cause I could say a lot more, drop this teacher instantly unless you want to be lost for an entire semester.
Do not take this class with him, you will regret it later. He was so unclear and did not follow the syllabus at all. His tests were impossiable and you never get your work back to study with. There is a lot of reading in this class. His grading doesn't make any sense at all. Just don't take his class.
Dr. Diop has been by far the best teacher I've had at KSU. He is extremely knowledgable and is an excellent mentor for all English/Engl Ed majors. The literature is great and really explains the African condition. The coursework is challenging, but not overwhelming. It's the perfect blend - great teacher, great works, perfect balance of coursework.
AWESOME! Instead of reading classical stuff, we read about African freedom, and the books were all mostly easy to read. The varity made the class ten times more interesting. He tells you exactly what to expect from the class to get the grade.
LOVEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE DR. DIOP, he is a very good prof if you do your work you will get an A and the work is just reading, if you are too lazy to read you will probably get a B
He has five books that you have to read and they are nto easy. Then he gives you quizzes on them and they are very detailed, includes quotes and every charcter you have to identify. Take a different teacher. Two PAPERs in addition to the books.
Somewhat disorganized in teaching methods. A slight accent makes you pay close attention. Does not always stick to the syllabus. Slow to return graded assignments, quizzes. Does not effectively use WebCT Vista.
Dr. Diop is an amazing professor. It's easy to call his class disorganized, but if you reflect on the pace and material learned in class, you'll realize he is an integrative, collaborative professor. He shapes the class around his students. Quite a bit of reading *it is English after all*, but if you go to class and participate you'll learn a lot!
Great teacher. A bit unorganized, but really into the subject. He'll break his neck to help you if you work hard. Id take him a million more times! Fun class if you join in discussion. He wont tell you what the literature means, but he loves to interject if you start a conversation.
Diop knows his stuff. I had him for critical theory and I enjoyed his class. Everything comes from the textbook. Alot of group work and a group project. He's very willing to help students.
A lil difficult to understand sometimes due to accent. Very passionate, loves the topic. Do your reading & participate in class = you will have an A. His teaching style is very dependent on class interaction - which is fun.
Had him for World Literature. He was kind of disorganized and often changed the requirements of all of the papers less than two days before they were due! Still, as long as you seem interested and do the work, you should be fine.
GREAT TEACHER
He is extremely unorganized. He doesnt answer emails and he just assumes everyone knows what he does. Does a lot of random in class dicussions that dont seem to have a point. The books he chooses are random books no one have ever heard of usually having to do with the issues of violence or racism.
I really enjoyed his class. I took him for the summer semester and we read 6 books in 8 weeks but they were all really good books so I didnt' mind. If you read the books and participate, you will have NO PROBLEM passing his class. He's an overall awesome guy who will do his best to help you succeed.
Dr. Diop is an extremely intelligent man. It took a few classes for me to understand his accent. It helped me because I had to listen closer therefore I absorbed the knowledge better. He is an expert in Lacanian psychoanalysis and marxist critical theory. He is very willing to spend extra time helping you grasp the concepts. Great man!
Critical Theory with Dr.Diop is very interesting, mainly because the subject matter itself is enthralling. We give group presentations on the required criticism in class. We learn the material by having to present it, but end up teaching the class. He's hard to understand at first. Tests are MC, but he will correct his mistakes. Easy A!
Read 1 larger book, 2 smaller ones, and a bunch of short stories. 1 page reader response and quiz on each. HE takes attendance and make sure you participate in class, thats part of the grade. He is very nice and intelligent. Sometimes hard to understand the accent but...great class.
MY FAV CLASS THIS SEMESTER!! I will take him again. You do read books and short stories, but you have group projects for the whole semester. An easy A. He is very personable and really cares if you are passing. He loves his students. TAKE THIS CLASS!
Dr. Diop is the most unorganized, unprofessional professor I have ever had. His instructions are never clear and never responds to emails. He is not understanding at all. He doesn't take anyone's thoughts into consideration. It's his way or you fail. I will never take his class again. By far the worst professor I've had at KSU.
Best professor ever!!! He is very smart and really cares for his students. all you have to do is go to the class and read the books. test are easy if you READ the stories. One easy project. very interesting material and a very nice professor!!!!!
I love professor Diop. He is very intelligent! TESTS are easy if you read the books. the books are no long at all + they are very interesting. My favorite class this semester...
He is not sympathetic. He does not ask us any questions and when he acts like he'll take us into consideration he does not at all. He is very unorganized. An example is that he gave us the study guide for the final before he had even written the final, sections of the format of the Final were not even present. His lectures are only his opinion
You have to read the books closely to get a passing grade on the tests. They are extremely specific. All his books are about some kind of violence and he makes up words that we have to define in class. His lectures are only for his ego and nobody else is right. He promises things like test exemptions and never follows through. Extremely unorganized
He is the most confusing professor I've ever had. He literally made no sense during the whole entire semester. He makes up random word, and all of his assignments are busy work. Very frustrating.
The course itself is not difficult, but the professor would assign homework in an email on Saturday night rather than on Thursday. He assigned a "final paper" at the last minute that wasn't on the syllabus. He then said it was so he didn't have to give it on the final. Then there was an essay on the final. Nice guy, but doesn't stick to his word.
This class was not easy. There is a lot of required reading as well as a commmonplace book to keep up with that goes along with it. He is really knowledgeable about lit theory, but has a tendency to go off on tangents sometimes. Assigned a fair amount of homework so the workload wasn't light. I'm just happy I survived this class.
I couldn't understand him half the time. And instead of teaching, he would make us learn the material and then randomly call on you to teach so you had to know what you're talking about. randomly assigns papers so don't skip class because he might assign a paper that day! (nothing on syllabus). He's really boring too.
This professor is very intelligent. If you are just looking for another class to get the grade and go, this is not the class. He wants you to learn something which you will if you stick with it!
A very nice, intelligent, philosophical professor who loves literature. Lives and breathes it. He will answer your emails and questions immediately and politely, and if you're putting in effort but still struggling, he'll help. DON'T SKIP. He gives pop quizzes and lots of busy work in class that count. Lectures are A+ though, take him for those.
He is an amazing professor with a passion for literature. It is not an easy class, but it is also not very difficult. He lectures everyday, and he encourages discussion. You will read a lot, so if you don't like to read, he's probably not the best option for you. Overall, he's very kind and honestly wants his students to succeed.
WORST PROFESSOR EVER.... do NOT take him. He did not put any grades in D2L until the last weeks of class so you have no idea what you grade is until the end. He has an attendance policy but didnt mention it until the middle of the semester. So much reading, and many group projects. Does not reply to emails, is rude, and has a strong accent.
This class was so so so easy! I highly recommend taking him. The entire class is busy work and you won't ever have homework unless you have to read a short story for the class. All you do in this class is busy work. Each class he usually gives a super easy middle school level work sheet (im not kidding). He is so caring for his students
Wonderful professor. Topic was Semiotics. This is a challenging topic to teach and he does a great job. He is invested in student learning, so if you don't want to learn then don't take him. I'm seeking an education so he was a fantastic teacher. Attendance policy is clearly stated in syllabus. He's understanding if absences if you email him before
Diop is overall a good professor. He expects you to do the assigned readings, and he covers each assigned reading in the next day's class. There are plenty of grades in class, but he often calls on students at random to discuss the reading. Just do your homework and all will be fine. His main downfall is that he is very scatterbrained/unorganized.
Not the best but not the worst as far as learning, you will learn. Does not give grades the entire semester and so you don't know how well you're doing in the class whatsoever. Not a difficult professor, but not extremely easy to grasp concepts. Can be frustrating at times. Class won't be your favorite but you will survive. Just go to class.
This teacher has a lot of stupid rules but makes up for it with extra credit and easy grading. Can't miss more than 3 classes or he will take points. Gives a lot of quizzes (some planned, some not) but they aren't too hard if you read or paid attention. He is a quirky man but is a good teacher and wants his students to do well! Reading is key!
Dr. Diop genuinely CARES about his students more than any teacher I have ever had. He's a brilliant man, and pushes all of his students to become capable of his level of high thinking. He's not easy, because he truly has faith that all of his students are capable. His instruction over the years has made me a better student.
As mentioned in previous posts, he is a bit disorganized and has a very strict attendance policy, but he is a brilliant man and cares about each student passing the class. The only issue I really had was that it was unclear as to when he would put in grades. It's not terribly difficult, but you will learn a lot from the stories and his personality
Hes the most CARING professor you will ever have at KSU. He genuinely care for each of his students and wants you to do well! Sure there is reading , but its an English class so thats expected. He helps students understand a deeper meaning & actually learn to appreciate literature.
This professor was absolutely brilliant! He's so caring and tries to make everything easy to understand. There is reading, but it's a literature class so it's expected. He has an attendance policy, but it's given to him by the english department. I took him for summer and the class was easy-going and allowed me to have a summer!
I definitely recommend Dr. Diop! He really cares about his students and if you show that you're putting forth effort he has no problem giving you an A. Participation is important, and you need to make sure you've done the reading before you go to class as his lectures are very interactive and completely based off of the homework.
the professor: kind, caring, overall amazing dude! BUT never submits your grades (left with a low grade and no grades to back up why). very fast paced (good speed for those who have prior knowledge of french, unfortunately i had none). tries to keep the class fun. doesn't respond to emails.
Currently in his linguistics class. He is extremely caring, and wants you to do your best! The lectures are extremely informative, just try to keep up and remember key terms and you're all set!
He is an absolutely great guy and hands down my favorite professor at KSU. He assigns homework like every other day, but it's all really easy and he isn't a tough grader at all. He likes to tell jokes and engage the class (and he also brings snacks often.)
He is a lot of fun and really tries hard to help you understand, but the class is fast paced and he expects a lot. The class is easier if you have a prior knowledge on French. He does give chances for extra credit, especially if you are not doing well but you come every day.
He is a very good professor who genuinely cares for his students, however he does seem a little off-putting when you first meet him. He is a little strict on certain things but you have to learn to understand what he expects from his students if you want to be successful. Dont expect to pass this class if you dont show up.
Dr. Diop is amazing. His lectures and discussions allow everyone to participate and voice their opinions. For a summer class, it was really easy if you space out all the work. One of my favorite classes so far at KSU.
I loved this class, and Dr. Diop was thought-provoking, funny, and kind. One of the best classes I've had at Kennesaw State.
Discussions about reading once per week. You're only graded by 2 assignments, a long Word document and the final exam. I didn't know what my grade in the course was until the the last day of the semester. Not a bad professor whatsoever, but prepare to have minimal guidance and graded activities during this class.
Professor Diop is amicable and fine in class. But this online semester was tough. Naturally the course is held in French only, but he hardly stops to check if students are following along. He also has weekly, almost daily homework, but never clarifies those due dates in English. He also doesn't seem to be consistent responding to emails.
I really think Diop means well, but how he runs class is messed up. He takes the content off D2L after each test. We keep all the work in a word doc and have to turn it in when he posts your name. Issue is he goes alphabetically so someone with an A last name only turns in the first module and nothing else but tests. He's unclear w/ directions too
WORST class i've taken at kennesaw. Just because you're informed on a subject, doesn't mean you should teach. He lacks any connection to his students, the grading scale is WILD. Miss one question on an assignment you get a ZERO for the whole thing. Don't understand the text ZERO on the assignment and he tells you your responses are bad. HORRIBLE
STOPPP!!! And pay attention to this post! DO NOT I repeat. DO NOT take this man. He is clueless about how to actually be a professor. He has no consideration for his students, is very rude, will assign a 4-5 page paper 2 days before due date. Hes WACK! Thats the only word for it. I really hope he sees this and RETIRES!
I had him for French and he was quite literally the worst. He is very knowledgable about the language and culture, but he taught the class (for beginners) in French. So, we never knew what was going on. Also, he is not very accessible outside of class, and does not answer emails by any means. If you see this man on your schedule, good luck Charlie.
I love this man with all my heart. When I first came into his class I was not prepared for the amount of work he would put into us. He would help you with your papers even after he graded them and would give you extra points. He is thoughtful and would bring in food sometimes just to get us to pep up. Love him. take him.
Professor Diop is a great professor. Each week we read a short story and would take a short quiz upon what we read. Bonus points are always available. Topics explored in class are entertaining and thought provoking. Take him if you can.
Dr. Diop is a man of wisdom and pure class. He is insanely intelligent with an inspirational drive to teach literature. The only bad thing about him is that his drip is beyond understand. His drip will make you feel insignificant, but overall an amazing professor. Take him for sure!!
Dr. Diop was an amazing professor that really likes to engage his students through class discussions. The readings are fun and interesting and he really takes into consideration what the students want and what is best for their schedules.
Cool professor. One short story assigned per week and discussions in class about them. Pop quizzes and only two tests all year, which are the midterm and final. Super easy to get an A.
Professor Diop is absolutely amazing. He communicates with his students and makes sure we are all engaged in discussion. Strories are short and easy to follow. Class discussion before quizzes made it really easy to understand the story fully. Always fun to go to class even in the early morning. Would highly recommend taking him!!
Dr. Diop is a great professor. it really helps if the students are enthusiastic, engaged, and actually learning the material he provided. as long as you do the work you will do just fine in the class. there are 2 tests a midterm and a final. weekly reading quizzes and random classwork drop-ins plus extra credit.
rarely replied to my emails, i dont know how i got the grade i got, he put grades in at the very last second, seemed very unorganized- we were always confused about assignments and quizzes and the commonplace books
Dr. Diop is a very respectable man, his 2110 class was one of my favorite classes last semester. He assigns a short story to read each week and in class you have a discussion about and do some group work. The class gets a lot more interesting if you try to participate in discussions. He really tries to work with the class, plus he has amazing fits.
He never puts grades in. So you're left in an state of confusion and uncertainty until he grades you poorly at the last second and there's not enough time in the semester to figure out why or to adjust your strategy for how to approach the class. Honestly disappointed; I could run a class better. He was rude + defensive when asked to put grades in.
He doesn't answer emails and has a strict attendance policy. The class itself was pretty ok he just tends to randomly call on students. He would also open up assignments on Saturday nights which was annoying.
I personally loved this class. Short stories every week (some were longer than others) and quizzes on Thursday. His lectures are super engaging and I learned a lot from the class! He isn't super great about answering emails, but if you remind him he gets to it. I had a good experience in this class and think Diop is a great professor.
Does not reply to emails, does not input grades, and has a strict attendance policy. I do not know why I got the grade I got and I will probably never know. Class is very lecture and quiz heavy, but the work is not hard.
Never gives you any grades so you're confused and lost until he puts everything in at the last second. He also makes MANY MANY MANY FAKE positive reviews for himself. You can tell, because several of them were written on the same date with a similar writing style that a student wouldn't use. Confusing professor who doesn't care for his students.
Writing this with my friend right now because we both had the same story in class. Didn't receive our grades until the very end, extremely frustrated with the confusing and unclear outcome. I know someone else who received a worse grade and couldn't do anything about it because the semester was already over. Also he writes FAKE reviews for himself.
I enjoyed the course material moslty but I understand why people in the glass were frustrated with him. His communication skills were pretty lacking at times, especially with things like assignment due dates and instruction. He was a super knowledgeable guy though and I think the class could've been better if more people were willing to talk in cla
If you need your area C covered take this class online. Professor Diop structured the class very simply and efficiently. We had 8 tests and 8 assignments all on readings assigned. If you do the readings and assignments you can easily get a 100. 10/10 professor!
guys a joke. writes fake reviews for himself
I'm going to tell you the truth about Dr. Diop's English 1102 course. This professor is a real teacher because he wants to see active learning in the classroom. No show of effort in class by participating then he WILL fail you. Comments on your submissions when something is off. Graded based off participation in lectures, research essay, & final.
This was a last resort pick for me. The class was not as bad as some reviews made it seem. We had 2 papers, pop quizzes, and a few homework assignments as well as in class group assignments to complete. Pay attention in class, do the homework, and participate and you'll be just fine.
Genuinely a very caring professor. Class is structured around a short story every week + a book towards the end of the semester. The lectures were very thought-provoking and led to enriching conversations. As long as you put in the time to read, it should be an easy A.
Course is an easy A if you show up to most classes and complete the reading every week. With that said, the syllabus was a suggestion to him with some assignments skipped and others drawn up from thin air. He changed the structure of the 2nd half of the course a week before we started it. No clue how my final grade was calculated with the changes.
This class is super easy, show up to class everytime and do the readings prior coming to the class. You might be overwhelmed though, he puts in grades the last minute and takes forever to email you back. Not sure if he will change it up next semester but DO THE READINGS, that is what the test test is on and group assignments you will get an easy A.
He springs homework assignments on you after you leave class, he cold calls you, he makes the power points in class and reads them way too fast to the point of slurring his words. Overall bad experience and the semester isn't even done yet.
He is a great professor in my opinion. You do have to go to all the classes and he will call on random people if no one is answering in class but outside of that, there isn't much else to it. You read short stories and then do an assignment in class and a quiz on that story at the end of the week. Not hard at all, definitely an easy A.
I cannot tell you not to take him enough. He is genuinely the worst professor ive ever had. You cannot access him outside of class, no matter how many emails you send, he will not respond to you. You can tell he has no idea what hes doing the majority of the time. I genuinely would not wish for even my worst enemy to take a class with him in it.
He's nice and has good intentions. Just show up to class, try your best, & you'll do just fine. Not very tech savvy + makes mistakes every now and then; gently correct him. 3 absences = course failure unless you have genuine reasons for missing class. Interesting subject. A lot of group assignments in class. Has an accent. Good professor!
