He lectures a lot, but the class is not too hard.
easy class but oral quizzes suck!
Confussing some of the times but has a good sense of humor
Take good notes on the lectures. The tests are multiple choice, but sometimes are tricky.
Very helpful. I'm surprised to say the class changed my views. He's a neat guy, very funny and sarcastic. Don't take the class if you are strongly commited to any religion other than Theism. The content's goal was basically to prove it.
Very outgoing, caring about students success, and conveys with clarity the material taught in class.
Great class. Very helpful in class and out of class, Willing to explain anything and most times has every answer to everything you can come up with. If you take any of his classes, when you first get into class, ask him "what is the good".
Great teacher, very funny, and very intelligent, straight foward information, lets you know what you need to do to be succesful in his class. excellent teacher. I highly recommend him.
Probably the best professor I have ever had. He's very funny and helpful, the classes I had with him were interesting and challenging, and he's just a really nice guy.
Owen's the best. information's straight foward and very interesting. Gives you test question ahead of time so you know what to study. I Highly recommend this class.
I love this professor. He is passionate about the material and knows all the interesting facts hidden in the sometimes boring rhetoric. Plus he is sweet and really cares about students and he wants you to succeed in his course.
He is one of my best instructors I have seen, probably the best. He help out all student if they have any questions. His test is pretty easy as long as you follow his lectures and write down his notes. I would give A+. Highly recommended and he is student-friendly instructor.
He is probably one of the best teachers I have ever had. He is so cool with the students and doesn't act like he is above everybody. His class is easy if you attend every class and take notes. Plus he gives you the test early. If you have a chance to take a class with him will be very lucky. Plus he
Really good class. This is what philosophy should be about. I would reccomend this class to anyone interested in philosophy. It wasn't east, but he makes it very interesting so it definitly isn't hard.
I took him for applied eithics. I agreed with everything he said, and he helps you through the material, but as a person he doesn't take his students very seriously. He spend all his time lecturing. The class is worth takeing if you don't want any suprises
Great class! Great teacher! If you study you will do well!
Mr Anderson is one of the best professors I have ever taken. He is kind of hard to figure out but in the end his class just comes together. I would reccommend him to anyone, and have. Excellent Instructor.
Prof. Anderson has a way of challenging one's beleifs and pushing you to think more critically about things that truly matter. If you have an opportunity to take him I would greatly recommend it.
He's defenately a good teacher but it's a 300 lefel philosophy class and it's very confusing. If you like that kind of stuff, he's a good choice. He's always cracking jokes and in good spirits. Good guy... and he kind of reminds me of Vince Vaughn :)
Professor Anderson is a very good professor. He is very helpful in and out of class. His test are not that difficult and he has a good sense of humor. At first the class seems to be overwhelming and difficult be you learn to like it. Great Professor overall
Prof. Anderson is a great instructor. He is very helpful, has a great sense of humor and his class gets really interesting, it helps that his tests are easy! Great job.
Best professor at the West campus! At first the class is confusing but it all comes together. Very funny and interesting. Everyone should take one of his classes!
He's great, nerdy, and full of popculture.
Just a cool guy. If you must take philosophy - this is the guy to get you through it. Makes the material fun & interesting. Gives oral quizzes each class, but you get to use your notes (how can you argue with that?) Our class was constantly laughing & he made us all really THINK! Plus...he's hot ladies!
Excellent teacher! He is very knowledgable and very interesting. Hilarious! Just always review his lectures before the next class so you do well on oral quizzes. I HIGHLY recommend him. =)
Good teacher overall , pay attention to the notes, and he will help you with the class if you have any questions. Overall easy though.. If you study before the test.
Awesome!! Makes you think and very funny, I want to take all my religion classes with him. Oral quizzes at the beinning of every class time so make sure to have your notecards that he lets you use ready, don't be absent and you'll do great. I recommend him to anyone!!!
Very funny guy. His tests are not hard you just have to memorize a few pages thats it.
Wonderful teacher. He is funny and makes things clear and relevant.
Funny
Very knowledgeable (in many fields of study), fun and challenging. He may seem intimidating and stand off-ish at first, and will make you nervous with them oral quizzes and sarcastic jokes, but he's very personable and caring.
Challenging, but very knowledgeable in all sorts of disciplines. Anderson is great at handling people with different opinions. He still holds his ground, but does it in a way that's fair and encourages people to think for themselves. Lots of material covered, you'd better attend all the classes if you want to do well, but definitely take him.
I have trouble with Philosophy so it was a difficult course for me but, he was more than fair. he actually gave us the final exam questions days before the actual exam.
The best! I adore the man! He is a genious, this is the one class I always want to go to. I always learn something new. His books are amazing! And yes...he's hot!
Very knowledgeable teacher and an interesting class. Did not require a textbook!
This was a very interesting class titled: "The evolution of Ideas." We traced the development of thought across the history of Western Civilization. He has a wealth of knowledge in a variety of areas and makes Philosophy lively. Easily my fav. professor.
This was my most interesting class of the semester. We went over nearly every major religion core philosophy by asking if they were "reasonable." Cover a lot of notes, but Anderson's humor makes this class a lot of fun...even though sometimes I felt like I took too much information in after 3 hours.
Prof. Anderson is smart, witty, kind, knows his subject and is eager to help. He is one of my two all time favorite teachers. The other was my mother! I've chosen his classes four times over other professors. Prof. Anderson encourages thought using a wise and careful manner.
This isn't philosophy - it's indoctrination. We read none of the classic philosophers, and the class is pretty much "religion according to Owen." We are encouraged to memorized what seem like mantras (and repeat them on paper), rather than read and think about classic philosophers. This isn't critical thinking.
He's a cool and funny person, but he cannot teach philosophy of religion. In this class you cannot influence Anderson in any way. Early in the lecture it makes sense than halfway through the entire gets lost because he isn't making any sense. I would say the only way to succeed in this class is write and say what he says.
So hard. He is confusing, boring and his material is hard. Not an easy a at all.
He is a wonderful professor and just a really nice guy. Lectures are funny and interesting. Also, he's very helpful - just ask! Not difficult at all. Just keep up with the reading and/or notes so you'll be ready for the oral quizzes. Highly recommend. He's the best professor I've come across.
He is awesome. Made the class rally interesting. He's super funny and sarcastic, which some people didn't like, and he can seem a little intimidating at first. But he's a really good professor. He actually expects his students to think, so be prepared for that!
Really liked the class. Anderson is a good professor and he made the material funny and interesting. If you have to take a philosophy class, take it with him.
Acts tough at first to scare you but is actually really nice. Show up everyday for the oral quizzes. They're easy as long as you write the notes from the previous classes on your notecards. You don't even need to understand what you are saying, as long as you read it. Pretty lenient on tests too. Use his notes to fill in study guide.
Great professor! I love the topic which helps. He randomly does oral quizzes at the beginning of each class, so study and be prepared. Textbook use is minimal. Everything you need to know is in his notes. Mid-term and final are both 10 essay questions. He has a good sense of humor and comes off as hard, but is a nice guy. would take him again
Good class. It wasn't super easy, but I learned a lot. Anderson is a great professor. Very knowledgeable. He's funny, so it makes the material more exciting. It also helps that he isn't bad to look at.
Class material could be confusing, but he's really nice and passionate about the topic, so it made things interesting. Plus, Prof Anderson is funny and hot. Definitely take a class with him.
Great online class. He answered questions, and I learned some good stuff.
Dr. Anderson was a really good online professor. The class was pretty straightforward and interesting. I would take another class with him.
I wasn't very excited about taking a summer course, but this class was a good choice. Dr. Anderson made it interesting and educational.
if you are looking for a challenge, this is a good class for you mate, whatever you believe in, you will get dizzy from thinking about your belief again :)
This is a very interesting class and he is a great teacher. He is wonderful at making you think about the bigger picture and allowing everyone to have a say in their own opinion. I originally took this class as a humanities with no other interest but he made me really take interest in this subject area.
This guy was an awesome instructor- I would definitely take another class with Dr. Anderson. The class does have some quizzes, but as long as you pay attention and write notes, you should do fine. He's really funny too and just seems like a nice guy.
I was a bit unsure about taking a religions course, but am I even glad I did! This turned out to be my favorite class. Anderson was awesome. Great instructor, even if he does come across as intimidating at first. Very helpful and funny. He expects good work, so do your best! I would definitely take another class with him.
This was not the first class I had taken with Dr. Anderson, but it was definitely the most fun. He is informative and well established in the academic community. If I had the choice of which professors I would like to have teach ALL of my classes, he is in my top 3. Also, not hard on the eyes.
This is one professor you do not want to pass up. His classes are beneficial to all majors. You will love it. He makes the lectures fun and interesting. He is the best professor I have ever had in college, and I am sure you will say the same. He is a genius in his field. Take his classes you will not be disappointed.
Dr. Anderson is a great professor. This is the second class I have taken with him and I would recommend him to anyone taking a philosophy or religion class. He is one of the best professors I have taken in college. His lectures are always interesting and he always lets you say what you think.
Dr. Anderson is great professor. He is more realistic to students. His lecture is kind helpful, post notes in blackboard by PDF file and doesn't require text book. He gives 4 quizzes, one discussion in every week, 1 exam and 1 final exam. Also, quizzes and exams are easier to use notes. He is awesome professor.
His lectures are long, but interesting. He is also really funny and tries to relate to the students. Not going to lie, you have to go to class to participate in oral quizzes that are over the reading (Not hard if you read). Also, the online quizzes are difficult because of wording, but if you read it's not bad.
Great teacher. Does his best to relate to students. The content for most of his tests stems from a word document that he uploads after every class. You don't have to show up, but you'll be docked points for attendance AND you'll miss out on oral quizzes.
Class is simple. Listen to the Professor's bias lectures, memorize his lecture notes, regurgitate them in oral quizzes and exams and you'll be fine. Their is literally no other work in the class. Just be sure to actually attend and at least look like your listening and paying attention.
Do not hesitate on taking a class with this professor! He gives amazing lectures, very helpful, and seems to be very passionate about his courses. This specific course was very interesting and would recommend anyone to take it. Even after class I found myself talking about the topic we had. I am definitely going to take another class him
Excellent teacher. He is very helpful and wants students to succeed.
An outstandingly dedicated professional who gave me insight into my future profession, my study habits and myself. I consider myself lucky to have received him mentor ship. Highly recommended.
Great prof, funny and knowledgeable. He is very organized and clear in what he wants from students. expects students to work little hard and be prepared for the class duties. Overall, I would recommend his class.
Great teacher; had him for Religions of the World. Fun class, and learned a lot!
Awesome, Very helpful!
He is great, he gives a good amount of hw spaced out and he really knows how to teach. Everyone in the class doing well and he makes it easy.
Loved this class. It was a long lecture since the class only meets once a week. There is oral quizzes at the start of each class but you can have notecards so just have those and you'll pass every quiz. There is three exams. He gives a review prior to exam so just study those questions. Nice guy. Interesting material. Favorite course this semester.
Very good instructor and class has a clear set up. Do the readings, show up to every class prepared for oral quizzes, and keep it up throughout the semester. Do not slack off on studying for the final! I did and as a result I went from an A to a B. Ugh, I regret this so much. Why did I procrastinate? D: My fault, not Anderson's. Anyway, take him.
Dr. Anderson is great, He gives a good amount of hw spaced out and he really knows how to teach. Most people in the class has good grades and he makes it easy.
I was really excited to take a course by him, but his online course teaching was terrible. The only learning I did was by reading out of the book, and there were no lectures or handouts at all. We only got points through tests and discussion boards, but discussion boards were barely worth anything. You're better off taking him in class, not online.
This was the first class I've taken with Anderson, and hopefully not the last. Good instructor, very straightforward class.
he's fine.
He is a great teacher. Very clear about what he expects for homework, quizzes,a and tests. Attendance is crucial, but his lectures are very helpful so it was always worth it to be in class. He and other students are very accessible to collaborate with.
I took Dr. Anderson for PHI 101 and liked the class. He starts off almost every single class session by doing oral quizzes. The question you get is usually from the last class session, so if you did your flash cards before class you'll be fine (he lets students use their flash cards). He lectures every class session, but he makes them entertaining.
Dr. Anderson is a very entertaining teacher. He relates philosophy to things happening in today's world, making his lectures simply amusing. There are pop quizzes at the beginning of the class (usually goes in order of the roster). You are allowed to have notecards for the quizzes, and may read directly from them. Only had 2 take-home exams. 10/10
Dr. Anderson is awesome! His lectures are so clear and he is so encouraging. AMAZING!!
His class was really interesting, usually it was just discussion about the required readings he assigned. The tests consisted on writing a research paper, about 10 pages.
Professor Anderson was funny. But his course was so confusing. He has a list of the attendance and he goes down and do pop quizzes. If you don't show up to class and he calls on you, then you lose point for attendance and that pop quiz. Test was critical thinking/memorization. He will make you talk in front of the class.. I end up withdraw .
Conveys his passion for philosophy to the class and gets everybody involved and hooked on what he has to say. Wrote his own blog to save us from having to buy books. Also has oral quizzes before class - calls on a random student and allows us to read directly from note cards when responding. Show up to class, study note cards, and you'll get an A.
He is a ok professor but I am not too into philosophy so I will give my two cents. If you are just taking this class just because you have to then he will not be the one for you. The class was just graded on a three exams each 20% of your grade and the rest are on pop quizzes and disucssion boards barely worth anything. Not an easy grader.
The class was structured strangely but that could've been due to you-know-what. 2 essays then a midterm, 2 more essays then a final was all that there was to do on my B session summer course. Long video lectures (40min-1:30) and the essays are based off of these videos. He really wants you to understand the material and reflect rather than memorize
I took Dr. Anderson's REL321 course, which was structured simply. Only ten mini papers where you answer questions he asks. He isn't a picky grader, but does want to see you dissect the philosophical ideas discussed in the lectures. The small number of assignments makes it crucial that you do well on each of them, so be prepared.
The class itself is a pretty easy A. You're graded on 3 "exams" (just essays) and those make up the entirety of your grade. He grades very generously and, as long as you just vomit exactly what was said in the lectures onto the paper, you'll get good marks. Doesn't offer much room for critical thinking or really even any views outside his own.
Took this over the summer. We only had 2 exams one being the final, and 4 papers. Not too much of a tough grader, but to get the most points possible follow his outline, look at the questions for the paper before watching lecture videos so you know exactly what to look for, and put what he says. Lectures are heavy but clear for the most part.
Usually a short video lecture assigned after class. Always bring notes in the form of note cards to every class, because each class starts with an oral quiz.
Cool guy with nice video lectures, made religion somewhat interesting for me (stem major). In the iCourse, there's 5 quizzes and 3 papers. As long as you somewhat engage in the material you will be fine.
Very funny. I was depressed and missed a test, but he have two extra credit papers. He is a Christian and I am not, so it was interesting to see a philosophical argument for Christianity. On the last day he revealed he believes in demons which was lit. I am taking off one star because he said that colonization was the best thing to happen to the US
This professor is a little off. He's super easy if you just do the work, but he just doesn't seem right. If you want to take this for the grade or credit, that is fine, but if you want to learn something deeply, look elsewhere.
He's such a sweet professor and does seem to care about students, just beware to all that are taking it as a "FOR" code, it is not forensics related at all, dont mess up like I did lol I went into it expecting it to relate somewhat back to my major/degree and it is allllll philosophy. Because I am not into the content, I'm having a harder time.
Least obvious Christian conversion camp.
Professor Anderson seems to be a nice guy who cares about his field of study, however this class in particular seems very, very rushed. It's an amalgamation of lecture videos taken from different classes slapped together and turned into a course. It is however, very easy and Professor Anderson is very understanding. Videos are low volume be warned.
Class is easy. However I feel as though the professor is trying to preach Christianity at me. Its very obvious his religious affiliation and his opinions on it. Flip side though is its easy to just write what he so obviously wants to hear.
This was one of the most unhelpful classes at ASU. Lectures are not made for the class, assignments change weekly yet have no point other than to argue that everyone is religious. Never responded to my emails because he was too busy suing the university. Essays are easy but long, quizzes make no sense and hurt your grade. Take any other professor.
Class was easy enough. I took it as an upper-divison elective so it didn't matter if I learned or not. Video lectures are nonsense slapped together. There are 5 canvas quizzes, and 5 essays that determine grade. His religious affiliation is obvious, but it makes it easy to write the essays. Not a great professor, but an easy enough class.
Some of the reviews I saw were blown out of proportion. Yes, I do believe he is a Christian, but it never crept into his teachings. Professor Anderson was respectful, fair, and extremely detail oriented for someone teaching an online class. A very good and fair professor, and I would recommend his class to anyone.
You can tell by comments he makes that he is Christian and you can tell over time that writing Christianity in a positive light is a fast track to high grades. In a world where I was expected to be bombarded with liberal ideology this is the second professor I've had that made me feel like I had to be a pseudo Christian to pass
It's a simple class, but not an easy A. The lectures are long and involve a lot of yapping, 10 hours weekly, yet they are never biased. It's nice. The discussions (essays) are 800 words. Please answer all of the points the prompt will give you, or you will lose nearly a letter grade. The quizzes are okay, not terrible.
Professor Anderson's REL321 class is an easy A, though his religious leanings are evident. The video lectures are a mixed bag, but quizzes and essays are straightforward. Unstuckstudy was helpful for prep. Overall, a decent filler class.
He is a great professor. The whole course is lectures and the quizzes and that's it. It's a nice change of pace for me because a lot of my professors are very assignment heavy, but there is only some quizzes. As long as you watch all of his lectures it's easy.
Professor Owen Anderson's class is pretty easy. Some videos to watch every 2 weeks. A quiz that is open to everything and a discussion paper that often has a corresponding video answering the prompt. He loves responding to emails people have about the videos.
I took this class to learn about ethics, but the entire time, he only spoke about God and how being Christian is necessary to be ethical. Most of the quizzes you can pass by just selecting the answer that has to do with loving God (and sometimes borderline communism). Before taking this class, PLEASE check his Twitter, it's not hard to find.
Felt compelled to write review based on experience. Has a lot of areas where they drivel about biases, and have heard them talk and pull students to the side, only for them to brag about their grades the next day. This felt really unfair, especially since they were consistently dismissing people's points, while tunneling to their own. Bias!
