Great class. Lectures/slides are interesting. He's very friendly.
Easy class,1 3pg paper, midterm, final.Lecture boring, but need notes for tests
very cocky british guy, thinks we're all stupid americans that don't know jack
this man has no business teaching an honors class, don't watse your time...I did
Attend lectures, study notes; cute British fellow
very ncie guy, lectures are interesting, neat British perspective and accent
Interesting Lectures, very funny guy, cute accent.
he tells u everything thats going to be on the exam, the class before. take notes
a funny little british man who gives a really clear, interesting lecture
pretty funny guy, let's you know what is on the exams, unlike most teachers
Very cute, very helpful. Good class even with all the notes!!
Cute british guy makes history interesting, cute side jokes but take notes!
Very easy class if you study and go to class, makes history interesting
Great teacher, funny, extremely helpful, exams are a cakewalk if you take notes
he is a cool guy, lots of reading though. funny too
very knowledgeable and interesting, tests come right form lectures, very helpful
very funny man, easy grader, just go to class and you'll do fine.
AWESOME CLASS!!! Cute British guy...easy A if go to class and take notes!
very cool prof., easy exams....he gives essay questions ahead of time
very nice & funny guy, class can be boring but not so bad, tests are short answer
He is such a cute british man! I want to pinch his cheeks - he is that adorable! Soft spoken, so sit in the front row.
very easy, take good notes in class and u'l get an A. do not buy the text.
go to class for easy A. boring but easy
i learned a lot in this course. didn't use the textbook. you can get A's based on your notes. great prof from across the pond.
Great, interesting course. Cute British accent, a big sweetie in general. A bit on the skinny side, though. I totally reccommend him - he knows his stuff and knows how to teach it.
Great guy, gives you the information. No tricks, unlike prof callahan. He is straight forward, and he wants you to listen and learn. Take good notes, and he gives you great books to read.
If you take good notes and study them, you'll do fine on the tests. There are no tricks. I didn't use the book except to look up dates, but he'll give you them anyway. Good guy.
easy class, could be a little boring but the work is reasonable and if you go to class and take notes you wil get an A
Lots of notes, but a really interesting class!
His exams are 75% lecture. Take good notes, listen to what he says, and you will have no problem. He just wants to know if you listen and absorb what he is saying. GREAT GUY!
Great Prof, always available to discuss or help. Funny, informative lectures. Learned a lot.
Owen White is the greatest professor at this university.
I want to wrap him up in a box and take him home! so cute!!! and his accent is adorable! He is a GREAT teacher, and you will learn alot without feeling overwhelmed!
Best professor I've had here so far. I looked forward to class and I'm not a history major.
Nothing better than a British guy teaching modern French history. Awesome lectures and it's really funny when he tries to be funny. Great class, really cool lectures and movies and slides. Cute accent too.
Great professor, plain and simple. Take him, he makes class fun and interesting, funny guy as well.
Loved him and his accent! He uses cool pictures from places he visits--not just straight lectures. Tons of visuals. Essay tests but if you go to class and take notes its easy. Great class!
Class is great, especially the more modern stuff becasue he uses films and pictures. The text was interesting and stimulating, but he makes the class fun with personal experiences and quotes when he can't use pictures and films. Great prof, funny too!
He is a professor that keeps you interested in his lecture. there are an extreme amount of notes, but if you read you will better know what is important and what is not. He does use a lot of slides a film, which is great. It is a pretty awesome class.
great accent; easy tests b/c he says exactly what is on the tests; very long classes w/ crazy amount of notes but overall would recommend this class
He's entertaining when he talks about interesting stuff like Meiji Japan. His area of interest is focused on the slave trade which he focuses HEAVILY on a times. You're gonna be tested on this. Leniant grader as well, got an 88 on a BS paper I wrote the night before. Easy tests and a cool accent
Awesome young professor. He is helpful and leniant with test grades, especially if you meet with him to go over tests. He tries to make lectures entertaining with lots of pics and videos. Semester grade made up of Paper, 2 Exams, and 2 quizzes. Take this class!
Nice guy but my only B of the semester. You have to be a major suckup to get an A - go see him in his office hours. Keeps class interesting and worth taking but completely subjective grader.
This course is really well organized. White balances themes and interpretations in his lectures and often uses helpful films to bring a period to life. Work is evenly spaced--perhaps a bit more demanding than other history classes at UD, but reasonable. Interesting assignments and straight-forward exams.
A really great guy. Incredibly knowledgable and smart and very witty and student-friendly. Readings are not too heavy, but can still mount up if you are not on top of them. You can get by without doing them, but you need to know the content to do well. Take lots of lecture notes and enjoy the film and multimedia tools. Grades fairly.
I learned so much from this class! He organizes his lectures in a way that helps you understand the mass amounts of material more easily. He shows film clips and pictures that help you put faces and images to the topics he discusses. He's funny, really intelligent, and has a cute British accent. And he's a really fair grader.
Very clear lectures, although sometimes boring, but after all it is history. Seems very interested in what he teaches. He basically announces what will be on the exam before hand and grades papers leniently.
Great professor as far as presenting and teaching goes. As far as grading, raise your hand a lot and go to his office hours for a better grade. I worked pretty hard just for a B and he is never really clear on what he wants.
He knows his stuff and tries his hardest to make it interesting. Not many grades in the class, but tests(Essay-2) and papers(2) aren't all that hard.
doesnt take attendance, really sweet guy, sense of humor, kind of boring sometimes but tries and makes everything clear. just take notes and tests are easy because u get to choose which questions to answer. he puts the terms u need to know on the overhead and is a good teacher. you don't really need the book if u get the notes except for the maps
A cool guy with an awesome accent. TONS of notes, kind of boring. Tests are Ok, if you go to class and memorize the 1000's of pages of notes. Gotta work hard for a B.
The class was extremely boring. He talks from start to finish. At the end of each class you leave with about 4-5 pages of notes. He seems like a pretty nice guy but he can write some pretty rude things on papers. Overall the course and the professor weren't bad. Just catch up on your sleep before you go. Take the course if you want to.
the class is pretty boring, and if you take the tuesday thursday classes it gets tough to last through the whole class. just take good notes and you'll be ok. i went to half the classes. he's straight forward about essays and tests, but there arent many grades, so u gotta make it count
This isn't a terribly interesting course, but Professor White does as interesting a job as any history teacher I've had yet. Sit near the front, pay attention, take good notes, and answer his questions. Study the notes for the tests and quizzes. All will be well.
VERY EASY CLASS....ONLY WENT TO GET THE VOCAB WORDS FOR THE EXAMS..MAY BE A LIL HARD TO STAY AWAKE BUT EASY B W/O EVEN TRYING
He's a nice guy but his lectures were REALLY boring. Funny thing is he sometimes admitted and apologized but usually those were the better lectures. The good thing about this class is that you do end up learning even without realizing, however you take 4-5 pages of notes per day. Also, you don't have to memorize dates, just essay tests on subjects.
I wouldn't call his lectures boring but it is easy to daydream sometimes. Two papers and two exams were basis for the final grade. Plus, he's pretty funny. Try to sit up front so you can catch the jokes he says under his breath. He's a really nice guy, and super intelligent too.
O WHITE is the best! Got me really into history, now I'm even considering minoring in it. Doesn't check attendance but if you miss class you miss about 5 pages of notes so go! I learned so much. Just put the work in, go to every class, take great notes, and you'll get an A! He even tells you hints about the tests!
Professor White is quite possibly the funniest and most awkward British man ever. I love him. Great class. Decent amount of reading, but that's expected in a seminar. Learned a lot. He pays a great amount of attention to detail when grading papers. Research paper: 10-15 pages, which is awesome for a 400-level.
I really like Prof. White. He makes funny little jokes and is somewhat awkward, but really is a nice man. Was not a demanding class and the textbook was barely used, I would take him again.
Tries to make dull material interesting, lenient about deadlines. Overall nice guy. I'd take him again. Attend class and you'll be fine.
I have never seen any prof/teacher in my whole academic career with more respect for his students than Prof White. Despite his brilliance, he is very down-to-earth unlike so many other professors in the history dept. He has a great sense of humor and makes classes so interesting with his slides, music, etc. Basically, he's the man. Take his classes
Sweetest professor. Very helpful and clear. Two exams and a few easy quizzes. One paper. Not difficult. Reviews very well before exam. GO TO CLASS- you take at least five pages of notes and they are very helpful to have. Very funny and enjoyable. Definitely recommend him even though class is boring.
Professor White is AWESOME! His accent is great & even though it is a boring subject, I never lost too much interest. We had weekly readings which took some time, but it is a seminar so we didn't do much else. The biggest assignment is the long research paper which he is very willing to help with. I definitely recommend him.
It's an upper level class: If you read the two books and write an adequate paper for each you will do fine in the class. I honestly had nearly 0 notes to prepare from for the midterm and final; I barely went to class because I would fall asleep yet I got a b-/c+ average on the assignments. If you want an A, go to every class and take notes. Easy.
I thought this class was going to be easy because I read the reviews and I needed a breath requirement filled. DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS. His lectures are so boring and his accent puts you to sleep. If you have absolutely no interest in the changes France underwent during the twentieth century, I seriously advise you to choose a different elective.
Pretty easy class. As long as you put in some work you can get an A. Professor White is very respectful and passionate about what he teaches. The only negative about this class is he doesn't post notes/powerpoints so you pretty much have to go to class for the notes, although attendance isn't necessary.
Great Professor. Lectures are long and there are a lot of notes which you have to go to class to get, but if you go and pay attention and take good notes its an easy class. 2 exams, which are not hard if you pay attention, and 2 4 page papers which are graded very leniently. No homework. Over all an interesting course, would recommend to others.
Professor White was amazing but that is because I love history. If you're looking for an easy Group B requirement I would steer clear of him. He lectures for the full time with only pictures and maps on his powerpoint, so you have to take your own notes the whole time. Gives a midterm and a final, two easy quizzes, and two papers.
This isn't the professor to take if you're not an auditory learner (or you are easily distracted). The powerpoints are only pictures, and UDCapture is used to supplement on information he did not have time to discuss in lecture. Overall, I really liked his class and would take him again for a HIST course.
Prof. White is one of the best professors I've had in my collegiate experience. He is incredibly knowledgable about the topics he teaches, and all the while offering some choice commentary in signature british wit. He expects you to read and contribute to class, and will not let you off the hook easily. So do the homework.
I've always hated history but Prof White made this class easier to understand. You must go to lecture to get notes and he lectures the entire time with no words on the powerpoint, only pictures. A few quizzes, midterm, and final but he tells you exactly what is on each. Overall, not a bad class if you go and pay attention.
He really makes the topics he's teaching interesting and is a pretty fair grader. He's also a super nice, funny, cool British guy who is really passionate about world history and it's just a great atmosphere to be surrounded by. However, be prepared to take a lot of notes or record his lectures.
Two exams (non cumulative). The midterm exam has one essay and the final has two. On exams there are also IDs which are short paragraphs you need to write to describe a historical figure or key word. He gives the essay topics beforehand so you know what to study. Also one map quiz and two papers (based on two different books youll have to read).
Make sure you're taking notes during class and if you're not there, get the notes. Exams cover some specifics, but a lot of general questions that you want to understand. Really nice guy and fun to talk to about different things.
Dr. White is very funny and hardworking. He is very passionate about what he teaches. You need to go to class in order to do well on exams, his lecture isn't posted anywhere. He's not an especially tough grader
The class was 3 hours long but it didn't even feel like it, that's how much I liked it. Professor White is awesome, and he really cares about his students. There is no midterm, a 10 page final paper and a few papers due in between that were no more than 3-4 pages. He's a great professor and I would totally take him again.
Owen white is great, his class was very easy as long as you pay attention and was very understanding. He is super passionate about what he is teaching.
Professor White gives great presentations. They are filled with lots of cool details, he's knowledgeable, but speaks in an engaging way. I highly recommend taking his class. The course had three 10 question exams, each with their own short response, and two essays. The essays had good feedback, and the quizzes were fair if you watched the videos.
Love Prof White! He's a very sweet person, knowledgeable, and funny in a dorky way. I also had him for HIST357. Workload was: 5-15 min of reading per class, 2 papers (based off books), and 3 exams (3-4 essay questions). There's a textbook but he scanned the parts we read. Take him if you like history :)
Hist104 was an asynchronous class. There were two lectures every week which Professor White packed them full of content to the point where I paused the lecture every 5 seconds to take down notes. The essays are not hard as if you watch the lectures you will do good. The only thing was the quizzes which were out of ten points. He is great!
I took this class to fulfill my history and cultural change requirement and wasn't expecting to enjoy it so much. He's really engaging and super knowledgeable. Also, if you couldn't make it to class, he posts videos of every lecture on canvas so you can keep up. He's genuinely a nice guy and I couldn't recommend his classes enough.
His class is very enjoyable, and there are only a few assignments so it is really important to do well on those. There is a little grading discrepancy between him and his TA (at least this semester), as he has more reasonable expectations for the papers within the page limits.
I took this asynchronous, and as a history nut I really enjoyed it! Professor's White's lectures are really interesting, and I like the way he focuses mainly outside European history. Do be thorough when writing your essays, as the TA wanted everything that could possibly be said about a topic present in your writings. A great professor!
Do not take this professor, grading is super tough and it's impossible to get an A in the class, the professor expects all his students to be in love with history and right proper research papers. It is like you are taking an English class for history.
Really a life-saver. He is a really good guy, he pretty much saved me from failing a required class. Cannot thank him enough.
Professor White is a very intelligent and kind teacher. Although there are a lot of essays and exams for this course, if you attend his classes and take minimal notes, you should have no problem getting a good grade! He also gives great feedback on essays.
