Worst teacher I have ever had...doesn't care about students. Is just plain rude.

She is a heartless women! She doesn't care about her student at all. Her exams and grading policy is completely insane. Worst professor I ever had! My advice, keep your distance from this one!!

teacher is careless, unorganized, cocky and should not be teaching, stay away. Class is made more difficult than should be.

She is ****.Doesn't help that she's the head of a dept so nothing you say will get her to change in any way. She hated me the first day bc i asked a question she felt challenged what she was teaching. Her midterms include fill in the blanks. Works in the 4rth grade but not college. She almost vaused a riot in the class.

STAY AWAY...Bad teacher...if you can call her that...subject is interesting...She should be fired...Tons of readings that arent tested, most obscure facts are tested on...very harsh grader...AGAIN, STAY AWAY

Worst teacher I have ever had! There is no way that taking this class can benefit you! Subject is interesting, its a shame she is such a horrible person and a horrible teacher. Shes doesnt care about her students, and is unfair with grading and vague in her directions. Do yourself a favor and never take a class that she teaches!Stay Away!

She hates girls and is **** in general....its impossible to pass her class with a decent grade....Her grading policy sucks......Stay away from anything she teaches.....It WAS an interesting subject, but she killed it!!!!!!!

Wow...I took her class like 4 years ago and she still sticks in my head! She was such a rude professor and totally nasty. I feel bad for anybody that doesn't get to see these posts and avoid taking class with her.

She's so unpleasant - I wanted to like the class (I liked the topic and the readings), but I dreaded going to class solely because she's such a nasty, bitter woman. It doesn't matter how much she knows - it's not worth sitting through a semester of her pompous bull - and sometimes she was just plain mean to students for no reason.

To have to say that a Sociology professor has a race bias and a gender bias is absurd. If you're anything other than a black woman, do not take this class. Also, she's plain rude, unorganized, half the time talks so loud your brain feels like it's going to split and the other half talks so low it's impossible to hear.

Grading system totally unfair. You cannot win with this lady. Stay away!

A very opinionated, obnoxious, and arrogant woman. She teaches and tests her opinions and strays from curriculum far too much. Class was supposed to be Sociology of Gender, turned out to be more about race and oppression of African Americans. Very intolerable, hated going to class.

She is extremely biased and obnoxious. She never allows herself to be wrong even when she's clearly made mistakes. Some of the readings are her own writing! She isn't clear at all about what students will be tested on and the system she uses is awful. Avoid her at all costs.

She is awful! She is extremely biased & even though I took Soc of Gender she talked more about race than anything! Also, she has such an accent I could barely comprehend anything she said. She laughs at her own stupid jokes. Her class was useless. I wish I took that class with a diff professor. Tests are kinda hard & the coursebk you need = $$$$$

Absolutely horrid. Not only does she have absolutely no extra help sessions or extra credit, she flat out lied about the format of our ONE midterm and final. "Cumulative, multiple choice exam" does not mean two article-specific essay questions. Very opinionated, racially and sexually biased, completely ruins what is an otherwise interesting topic.

She is a terrible teacher. She laughs at students when they answer questions and they aren't what she'd like to hear. She doesn't go over readings because "It was understood she would lecture and we would read." She doesn't know how to review for a test, either. Oh, and she doesn't like to use a mic in a class of 150 because it "cramps her style."

She was the worst professor I've ever had the privilege of taking a class with. Attendance is not mandatory but there are pop quizzes and they are usually in different formats. The tests are incomprehensible because the subject matter is entirely subjective to her own views. The course is essentially O.Os views on men having bigger, empty skulls.

She is the most biased and bitter teacher I've ever had. I try and participate all the time and all she does is trash my comments, even though they're right by laughing at me and making me feeling like I'm stupid. I feel like she just hates white people.

Professor Oyewumi is passionate about her subject, however she should stick to writing articles. Her biases spoil an otherwise fascinating topic. Though I am happy to have taken away what I have from the information provided(reading), I find each class session more and more difficult to tolerate. I can promise that most anyone will feel the same.

This professor and class was most definitely the worst class I have ever taken. She is completely biased, rude, arrogant, and hates white people (however she does think that all of America is useless too). Her whole class structure is a joke. DON"T TAKE HER CLASSES, You will regret it!

She is arrogant, and as the other writers said, she hates white people. She once said that she got "stuck" teaching in America. Dont waste your time taking a class of hers. Very biased.

Worst expreience ever. Took sociology of "gender" for a DEC which turned into a race-relations/**** hate fest. She blamed the 60% midterm average on the class, threatened to withhold a curve, pop quizzes were off topic and infrequent. Only upside was an easy Essay final. I really dont know how this woman still has a job. Avoid, avoid, avoid!

This professor does not know how to teach. she stands in front of the class with her notes in hand and talks and talks the entire class. If a student has an opinion that she does not agree upon, she will immediately shut you down, laugh, and tell you that you are incorrect. She expects you to write everything you hear down and she doesnt slow down

Terrible teacher, i cannot believe that she gets paid 99,000 a year for the stunts she pulls in class. Avoid this class if you can. Her grading scheme is arbitrary at best, and if you find some inconsistency within her rhetoric, you are screwed because she can easily find out your name. Even if you score great on test, you can still do horribly.

don't take her class unless u like reading a lot of stuffs. Every week u have to read 30page reading and sometime u need to read a whole book within a WEEK. The grading is ridiculous too.

Avoid her class at all costs. Worst professor in Stony Brook. She puts you to sleep every class and her grading system is ridiculous.

Worst professor I have ever had. She is disrespectful, laughs at students questions and is flat out terrible. Students cant miss more than 3 classes before loosing 20 percent of there grade; which is fine. If the teacher didn't skip 4 classes herself. I'm not saying this class was hard, it may have been the easiest class I've taken.

could not understand what shes saying 80 percent of the time. no notes no powerpoint full on speech with little help

I've never had a worse professor in my life, she is the least bit helpful. The TA is very nice and does all the work for her. Prof has no sense of what students actually need in order to pass. Her review sessions are a joke and she makes the tests as hard as possible. Its an easy class that she chooses to make challenging for her ego to feel better

Worst professor I've ever had. Her lectures are really boring and could easily put you to sleep. The amount of readings required is ridiculous. The exams are also pretty tough. Avoid her classes at all cost!

It's either her way or the highway. She's very difficult. You have to figure out what she is thinking. She is a nice woman but I wouldn't take her again.

One of the worst professors I've had at SBU. Spent most lectures complaining about lack of participation and then when someone would contribute she would laugh and ridicule. Although there was some interesting content she would often give her opinion instead of facts. The tests were short answer/essay style and very tricky.

Smart lady. Terrible teacher. Hard to understand her accent. Rude to students. Does not know how to get information through to students. Very unorganized with material. No notes for lecture. She just talks for the whole class. Material we discussed all semester wasn't on the final at all. If you take a class with her, good luck!!

If you like reading 15 page packets every week then this class is for you! Her map quiz is easy but her grading style isn't so clear. In order to pass further exams make sure you are on top of what criteria she is looking for. It will be hard for you to participate if you have not read or are not confident in the material, she will shut you down!

Attendance was mandatory but lectures seemed useless. Only two grades for the class, a take home midterm and a take home final. Very aggressive, made me afraid to ask questions. Literally laughed at people who asked "dumb questions". Hard to get ahold of outside of class. Wrecked my car and still lost attendance points.

The worst professor I've EVER encountered in my 2 years at City College and year and a half at Stony. This woman is extremely disrespectful to her students as if they're not adults, ridicules when they participate, and goes off topic each lecture. Midterm and a final that test the material that we never learned because of her inability to teach.

Ok heres the deal. Professor Oyewumis class work was not overwhelming BUT she is extremely condescending and made me hesitant to ask ANY questions. Every question a student asked was met with sarcasm and a cold attitude. It was really unnecessary. The only time I bothered to ask a question, she was rude & it made me extremely uncomfortable.

I haven't even met this woman for 5 minutes and I could already tell she was rude. She never answered my email regarding the structure of this class (hence why it is so unorganized). I even went up to her in person to ask just a couple of simple questions about the syllabus, yet she made me feel as if I'm asking dumb questions.

This professor can sometimes be condescending and is a harsh grader. I would say, read the readings and attend class.
