I think DR.G really does try his best and cares about his students and I would take him again BUT I want to warn everyone about the curve. The curve is nice if you want to pass you can get a C but if you want more dont rely on the curve he sends out after midterms. After we took the final which many struggled it jumped 15% making my B a C+
Dr. G must be the most caring professor. He does everything he can to help us get the best grade. Exams are very conceptual and hard, but the class curve is amazing. I wish I had him for chem 2c. Absolutely Recommend
Dr. Gulacar truly cares about his students and did his best to give everybody the highest grade possible. He didn't give minus grades, while many other chem professors did. The class is challenging, but if you show up to lectures and do some of the copious amounts of optional worksheets and practice exams he provides, you should be fine.
I had Dr. G for CHE2B and CHE2A. He is such a great professor. His tests are very hard but his curves make up for it entirely. He will take every suggestion to heart and make improvements to his teaching based upon them. There are two midterms and one final that make up a large portion of your grade. Highly recommend him if you have the option.
Gulacar really cares for his students. His lectures are not terrible either. I'm sure many will disagree with me, but I thought the practice exams prepared me well for his actual exams. Che2A's A curve was around 86%, and his 2B A curve was in the low 80%. He really tries his best to get the best curve for his students, and I would recommend him.
His tests are extremely difficult but he provides numerous resources, so if you seriously put in the time to go to office hours, do all the worksheets, and read the textbook you'll do well. He's an absolute sweetheart and extremely passionate about the material so that makes the class more enjoyable.
I did well in the class by reading the OLI textbook and having chem background knowledge. Other students found Gulacar's lectures confusing, but I thought they were ok. He likes to go over example problems during lecture. Gulacar cares a lot about taking feedback from the class, he switched to live lectures immediately when the class asked.
Definitively a class in which you have to work for your grade. Professor G isnt the best lecturer, but he tries to do his best and provide a bunch of external resources. His tests are sometimes very conceptual, which can be a pain in 2B, but overall my experience with him in 2A & 2B was good.
I had Dr. G for 2A and 2B and it's clear that he really wants his students to succeed. He does the most to make sure that everybody does well, which includes generous curves and not giving minus grades. He also provides tons of optional worksheets and practice exams to help you prepare for the midterms and final. I found his lectures to be useful.
Dr. G has VERY generous curves, so although the tests are challenging, he tries his best to accommodate your grade. As someone who took AP Chem, I did not find this class particularly difficult, as the concepts are quite familiar. However, others would find it more helpful to go through the optional practice tests and pre/post-lec quizzes on OWL.
I had Dr. Gulacar for both 2A and 2B. His lectures are clear and filled with many examples, which are helpful when preparing for exams. Exams are definitely challenging so be prepared to spend a lot of time studying. Dr. Gulacar really cares about his students, and the curve for the class is great. Highly recommend.
Honestly, Dr. G does not deserve such a poor rating. He does his best to make the lectures interesting. He is also always considering student feedback whenever possible in order to cater to the class's needs. That midterm and final however are somewhat difficult. Be ready to think outside of the box when answering questions. Would take again 10/10.
Dr. G does care a lot about the mental well-being of his students, but if you dont have a strong chemistry background damn will this class be tough. His curves are thankfully very generous though (and are the only reason I passed lol). The lectures were always clear and helpful but the exams often were wordy and confusing. Studied and cried a lot.
Took him for both 2A and 2B. He truly cares about us and strives to hear feedback from us so he can improve himself. Midterms and final are really difficult but the curve at the end is a life-saver. My 68% was a B with his curve. I'm sure if I tried a bit harder and used all the resources he provided, I could've gotten an A.
Dr. G is the best professor at UCD! He's extremely caring and flexible, and really listens to his students. IMO his tests were not as hard as people say, though MCQs are worth a lot. He gives you ample resources to succeed, but you do need to invest a lot of time for this class. His grade curves are superior.
Took 2A and B with him. Definitely a caring professor and his curves save a lotta people from failing. Option to attend live lectures or watch asynchronous lectures. Will say that his asynch lectures arent as clear as they werent recorded recently. Majority of work is mainly lab, owl homework, and lectures.
Dr. G is a super caring person who listens and responds to students' feedback and does all he can to help his students. Midterms can be difficult but great curve that saved many people. Explains concepts pretty well and I got by both 2A ad 2B without reading the textbook. Would take again!
I had Gulacar for Che 2A and despite learning his teaching style and how he tests I still did not do as well as I wanted. The tests are extremely tricky and I did not finish the midterms or finals because there were so many problems. Very caring but honestly not a great teacher or lecturer. I learned most of CHE 2A + 2B through OLI. Take Enderle.
Dr. G is honestly the most caring professor I have ever had at UC Davis. His tests are very difficult, but he has a VERY generous curve and gives lots of extra credit questions on the tests. He also listened to us and let us vote on whether we wanted to drop our lowest midterm score at the end of the quarter. I got 82% in 2B and that was an A.
I was afraid of taking chemistry after years since hs. Dr Gs content was good, he provides a lot of examples and his exams are not to fail you. The questions are all pretty doable. Only downside would be the HW that sometimes has a lot of questions but thats really good practice for the exams.
Great professor and you can tell his primary focus is students learning. Pretty exam heavy with 80%+ of the grade being on three midterms. Gives a load of practice/example midterms for each midterm which closely resemble the actual exams which helped me score perfects. Homeworks are pretty bad though and you will spend quite a long time finishing.
Dr G cares a lot about mental health & teaching so students learn best. That being said lecture isn't always super simple/interesting. Tests make up 81% of ur grade--but the curve is INSANE. He gives lots of study resources (but if you took chem in HS you can mostly get away with not reading.) His score should be higher--def a solid choice for 2A.
Dr. Gulacar is one of the best profs I have ever had. He genuinely cares about each of his students and his office hours are super helpful. Wish I could have him for 2B!
If you are not absolutely cracked at chemistry do not take Gulacar. Yes, the curves are insanely good and help a lot but even then it's still a pretty disappointing grade. I've never passed any of the exams but still ended up with a C so I guess that's okay. Pretty sure everyone bombed the final. Don't take Gulacar. You have been warned.
Gulacar's lectures are dull. I often found myself studying the wall rather than the board. With that being said, his online resources are very good. He provides a free online textbook that I found really helpful. The HW is long, but beneficial. Midterms and final make up 81% of the grade. There were some curveballs on the exams. 84.4% was a B+.
I absolutely loved Dr. Gulacar. He truly cares so much about all of his students. He gave us SO MANY resources to study outside of class. So if you utilize those resources, you will do well. He was such a kind and genuine professor. 100% recommend! Not to mention, his curve is VERY generous
To cut to the chase, his class is difficult but he gives so much extra worksheets and optional quizzes along with a textbook and the best OH (that he often sends out polls to figure out when would be the best time to host them) that he records and posts under a module for OH. If you don't pass this class, you didn't put enough work into it.
Dr. Gulacar is an amazing professor. Although sometimes his lectures got a little boring, he is very passionate about chemistry and the environment. He truly loves teaching, and it is not hard to achieve a good grade in his class. In order to succeed, you must study with the OLI resource and complete all the HW. You just have to put in enough time.
Very caring professor, but made the transition to college unnecessarily difficult. I took two years of chem in hs and it was not enough to prepare me for the college level difficulty. I spent most of my homework and studying time on chem and still did bad. By the end of the quarter I was thankful I passed which is very unlike my hs self.
I didn't take chem in high school but still managed to pull an A in this class which should speak volumes. I really felt like I was learning a lot and he puts a lot of effort into teaching well, not just knowing the material, which is nice. Yeah, you have to work for it, but his curves are generous and you can succeed if you put in the work.
This was hands down one of the best chem classes I ever took. Gulacar is super nice and cares a lot about his students succes. We also had so many practice opportunities and he would take time out of his weekend to helps is with office hours. Tests are a little hard but if you have been following recommended timeline you will do great!
Dr Gulacar is a kind and caring professor. His tests are easy relative to other CHE 2A classes. The curves are generous. As a lecturer , he isnt perfect, but if you show up to the lectures, pay attention, and follow along, you will do fine.
I loved Dr. G! Chemistry is not easy, but he helped me come to love it. He is very communicative, supportive, and clearly cares about us. He grades exams within 1-2 days and is clear about what the curve will likely be. He will post messages with tips, advice, and encouragement often. Practice exams he gives help alot on the midterms!! Cool guy.
If you took AP or IB chemistry before, this class is very easy. Dr. G is very caring and organized. He explains things thoroughly, and he posts tons of study materials and practice resources on canvas. Test questions are similar to in-class exercises. The weekly homework is helpful but a lot, so you'd better spread it out and do some every day.
clearly passionate about the material, but bad at lecturing. I stopped going to the lectures b/c using the online textbook was a better use of my time. during lecture, he gets very sidetracked and doesn't explain things well. the hw, midterms, labs and final are what really matter in this class. the work isn't hard, just time-consuming.
Gulacar is very caring and gives a VERY generous curve. Personally, his lectures weren't too hard to follow and he provides plenty of optional resources (textbook sections, worksheets, OLI quizzes). Start homework as early as possible because it is very time-consuming with the amount of problems. He also provides a lot of practice exams.
This review is for his First Year Seminar. Gulacar is a funny and passionate person and this seminar was a good time. It is about global sustainability, and you spend class talking about global issues then work on a proposal to make UC Davis more sustainable. I didn't learn a ton of new things, but the seminar was nice, easy, and fun.
Chemistry is hard, but I actually enjoyed it thanks to Gulacar. He's average at lecturing but the exam prep material he provides is great! There is a textbook but I didn't look at it once. Honestly, If you take notes, do the homework and prepare for the exams, it's not hard to pass! Also, his curve is awesome. And he cares about his students a lot.
Dr. Gulacar keeps the lecture engaging by asking questions every 5 minutes and waiting until some brave enough raises their hand. Despite that, he's very caring and is accessible right after lectures to answer any questions. He wants his students to pass, and he gives very generous curved to ensure that.
Passionate professor, go ask him whatever question you may have after lectures. Do the optional worksheets for each chapter so you get solid A in both midterms guaranteed. Finals, If Prof. Enderle teaches CHE2a -check your schedule builder- in your quarter, he's responsible for finals. STUDY REALLY HARD. I got 75 on final when both MT were A+
This teacher is amazing.... he curves so hard when sees when a student has been struggling. Definitely need to do you work and readings to be successful in this class but if he sees that you have really tried, he really tries hard to pass you! He is such a caring teacher and is very clear when teaching his lectures!
there's a lot of homework, so be prepared to carve 3-5 hours out of your week to do those. he gives so many resources it can be a bit confusing navigating, but please use all of them if you can. i think if i had more time to put effort into the class, i could have done better. his exam practices are excellent preps for midterms/finals! huge curve.
I was scared because he was my last choice for a chem teacher, but he ended up being great. I struggled in the class but that was my fault. He provides lots of learning opportunities so that you can succeed in the class.
You have to take the time to study and learn material outside of class. Gulacar gives an introduction the material with a few example questions during lectures. His slides are organized and helps with taking organized notes. The curves are very generous. He is also very nice and understanding.
Dr. G is one of the most caring instructors I have ever met. His tests are overall less conceptual and more straightforward. He curves hard. Although he may not be the most engaging lecturer, it's definitely feasible to be successful in his class with self-effort. I highly recommend OLI and doing practice exams to do well in the class.
If you're not good at chem, or haven't taken it before, its going to be a tough, but passable class. He curves very well but thats also bcuz averages are very low. Homeworks, reading, and worksheets are very time consuming, but within reason. Go to office hours!, the most helpful resource he offers. He really does care abt ur success tho.
Overall is a very nice, compassionate guy. You can tell he is very passionate about chemistry and its real world applications. However his lectures didn't really help me. Most of my learning came from the homework, which took a while to get used to. Thankfully he has a very generous curve, which is the main reason I willfully took him for CHE 2B
He is a very passionate professor, he really shows that he cares. The book the uses (OLI) is really helpful, I'd recommend reading before going to lecture and doing the practice exercises. The homework and discussion assignments are perfect to prepare you for the tests, but the best way to study is to do review tests and attend his weekly OH.
I absolutely LOVE Dr. Gulacar. I highly recommend that you take him for 2A and 2B (like I'm doing). He is so caring and he really wants his students to succeed. He spends a lot of his personal time hosting office hours, even on weekends before exams! Take Dr. Gulacar! He's amazing :)
Professor Gulacar provided a ton of resources to help you better understand the content. His class was definitely hard, but if you take the time to study you can do well. His tests also have a very generous curves which helps a ton. If you want a professor that cares about your success pick Gulacar.
Great professor. The class wont be easy, but the curve is generous and Dr. G cares a lot about your success. Get ready to spend all of your time studying, but there are lots of resources provided to help.
Loved his lectures. They are.... veryy.. gud. His teaching style doesn't necessarily align with my learning style because he uses slides instead of actually jolting down the concepts while explaining. Regardless, his lectures are honestly fun. Apart from that, it's the typical chemistry labs, discussion, and homework.
Amazing access to supplemental materials and very good lecturer.
Tough class, but he was very good for CHE2A, and his class is very passable. I would say be ready to have to study a lot, because the final is very challenging.
Professor Gulacar was an amazing professor. He genuinely cared about teaching students and offered a lot of resources. He held extra review sessions and offered a lot of practice exams before the exams. Remember to take OLI notes because they help a lot as well. Overall, I really recommend Professor Gulacar for chemistry.
Gulacar is the best Chem Professor I’ve had by far. Very caring and does his best as a Professor inside and out of lectures. Exams can be difficult but if you go to lecture and do the HW you’ll do well. His class has made me more excited to learn about Chem and now I’m sad because he isn’t teaching CHE 2C next quarter!
I had gulacar for chem 2A and 2B, I got a B in both classes. He has been one of the best professors I have had at Davis so far. His lectures are clear and easy to follow and his canvas page is very accessible. His tests are hard but he has a very generous curve and offers many practice tests. I would recommend him 100% but def be ready to grind.
Professor Gulacar is one of my favorite professors at UC Davis. He was engaging, made the class fun and interactive, and was very fair with grading. He put out many practice tests and held many review sessions. A good grade in his class is very obtainable it you use the provide resources.
Gulacar is the most considerate professor I've ever seen. I took him for 2A and 2B, and I wished he would teach 2C too. His lectures are clear and easy to follow, the exams are all based on the lectures, and his curves are super generous too. He makes the canvas site easy to access, and he provides lots of resources to help students succeed.TAKE IT
He makes very detailed modules on canvas thus students can study by themselves very efficiently. This course is quite concepts heavy like they will not be a lot of calculation but rather a lot and lots of concepts that need to be memorized. I highly recommend Doctor G, probably one of the best professors I have known so far.
Dr. Gulacar is such a caring professor. He truly wants each and every one of his students to succeed. Che 2B material will always be difficult, but Dr. Gulacar gives you all the resources you need to succeed. Do hw, practice exams, and go to OH review and you'll do really well. Curves are more than generous, it's almost impossible to fail.
Gulacar is a very considerate prof, he says that he always tries to give his students the most benefit when it comes to grading and curving. And I think that’s true. He genuinely wants u to succeed and offers plenty of resources for u to succeed in a difficult class like chem. Super underrated professor!
Dr. Gulacar is the most involved and caring professor I have ever had. He compiles all prep and study materials for each lecture (interactive textbook, optional quizzes, worksheets) in one place. He doesn't give minus grades and has a curve where 30-40% is a C. He sometimes goes through material too quickly but presents information effectively.
Dr. G is a really good chemistry professor. He provides a lot of extra resources such as OLI (a textbook with practice problems embedded), practice exams, and extra practice problems. His tests were fair compared to other chem professors. His office hours (via Zoom) are super helpful. If you do the reading and go to lectures you'll do well.
Dr G is really helpful especially in Piazza where we often have questions. The office hour is recorded and is really helpful for preparing midterms and test. And also do the practice tests which reflects a lot for the midterm questions. Moreover, his class is so organize however, he can be so fast but you can always watch the lecture again
From a completely unbiased standpoint, Dr. Gulacar is an extremely caring professor. His lectures are clear and transition smoothly from topic to topic. He provides clear grading criteria and a very generous curve. There's also minimal homework, of which you have multiple attempts to get a perfect score. He's the best teacher I've had thus far.
Amazing, caring professor. Hard work pays off, as the class is structured so well and there are many resources available for you. Tests & homework are never tricky, always clear and straightforward. Practice tests help SO much. Dr. Gulacar is very inspiring, passionate and makes you love coming to class! Take him!! Very good vibes :)
Professor Gulacar's lectures can be really hard to follow, but he offsets that by providing a ton of online resources. His tests are pretty easy and his curve is very generous. His class can be hard if you're used to being verbally taught by a teacher/professor.
My favorite chem professor. He has great lectures with lots of examples and clear visual aids. He also provides a lot of outside materials to prepare for exams.
Dr. G is one of the most responsible professors I've met at UC Davis. He always shows passion during the lecture and answers students' questions on piazza ASAP. Watching or attending his office hours are really helpful for exam preparation. And he even holds extra review sessions before the final.
AMAZING! I could have not passed chem without him! He provides many resources for the class and gives a very generous curve. Lectures are a bit hard to follow but the resources available make up for it. He tries his best to provide a clear understanding a provides much of his time for his students!
I had Gulacar for both CHE2A and CHE2B and loved him. I'd say he's the best in the chemistry department, because though he can come off as a bit intense at first, he provides more additional practice than any of the other professors. He very clearly cares about the success of each of his students and is as nice as can be if you talk to him.
Lectures might not be the most amusing but he does really care about his students. Requires a little work but he’s definitely a professor I’d recommend.
Gives you plenty of practice material to study for exams, curve is very generous, and tests are very fair. Downside is accent can be a bit hard to understand during lecture. Material is difficult, but if you use the resources he provides (practice questions, office hours etc.) then it is manageable. Clearly cares about students doing well.
I was super anxious to be in his class at first but then over time I realized how caring and passionate he is. He truly cares for the wellbeing of the students in his classes, and always takes the time to make sure we understand all the concepts. His office hours and practice tests are super helpful! He's the sweetest professor ever I promise
Excellent professor. He gives you so many resources, and all his office hours are review sessions. He really wants his students to succeed and I really appreciated that. Chemistry is not easy, but he provided so many things to study from that it made it much easier. He also is very organized which is great. Loved learning in his class.
Prof Gulacar truly cares about his students' success--spends extra time & effort to provide a plethora of resources. He gives a lot of practice exams that are very helpful & his office hours serve as review sessions where he works on problems in an interactive way. Lectures are straightforward and organized. Tries his best to be generous in grading
I absolutely love Professor Gulacar and I would love to take a class with him again. Make sure to do the practice tests and you will be set for the exams. He provides so many resources and really wants his students to succeed. I personally did not learn much from the lectures, but he is an amazing person and truly cares about his students.
There is a lot of content to go through and the lecture goes very quickly, but Dr Gulacar offers a lot of resources to help you be successful. He is very organized and the supplementary textbook pages he posts in modules alongside lecture recordings are a lifesaver. Be prepared to study a lot.
I had him as a professor for my CHE1V class. It was the first time he has ever taught 2,000 students. He cares a lot about his students and tries his best to make everyone pass, his exam curves are holy. A genuine and caring teacher indeed.
Professor Gulacar is one of the most passionate professors I've met by far. He is very passionate about chemistry and dedicates his time to helping students as much as he can. So far, only 1 midterm and 1 final. All lectures are online, but attendance for discussion counts as participation.
take him for che 2a if you can! he's a fair grader and his lectures are pretty clear. tests are easy if you study and follow along with the material and do practice tests. he has many review sessions and also has decent curves. you need to do hw and other lab assignment to receive a good grade in the class so just make sure to not fall behind
-midterms and finals easiest out of rest of the professors -best curve -wish i had him for che2B -holds recorded office hours and extra practice before midterms and finals -gives many materials all helpful -hw is best help
Great chem professor. Curves are very generous, and he's very engaging in lectures. The class was enjoyable, but I had to do a lot of reading outside of lectures to grasp some content fully. Class is well over 50% in exams, but that's just the chem two series. I would recommend this professor he's very understanding and lenient in terms of grading.
CHE 1V is super easy - literally just keep up with the ALEKS and the Connect work, and you'll be good to go. Once a week mandatory discussion sessions are the only 'synchronous' part of the class. Highly recommend if you failed the chem placement, it helps you learn or refresh on the material a LOT.
The online course is average in terms of difficulty. The professor isn't too accessible outside class given it is an online course. You must have self-discipline to stay on top of things. The professor gives generous curves to those not doing well.
Dr. G, is the most kind and cares so much about his students. While his tests are hard, the curve is very generous and that saves your grade. He is willing to do anything to help his students succeed. He is truly such a kind person!!!
Dr. G is an amazing professor! Very caring towards his students and wants the best for them. Test are difficult but he gives out a lot of extra resources to help you. His curves are very generous and is lenient with grades. Would suggest taking him for CHE 2A!
Dr. Gulacar clearly cares about student success and invests a significant amount of time into helping students understand. Most of lecture is invested in practice problems and concept work, and although he assigns much more homework than the other professors, due dates are more forgiving and the work is often directly analog to that on the test.
he cares about students so much! he gives so much practice/study material on canvas, and if you preview and review the material, you should be okay. definitely need to study a lot for the midterm and finals though, the class is very fast paced and material is quite difficult. teaches by introducing concepts + doing examples. curve is v nice :)
Dr G WANTS you to succeed. He makes pre-lecture modules of all the content you'll need to know in a lecture + practice problems. Most people don't do them, but if you spend the 10min-1hr necessary, you'll be so much farther ahead than everyone else. It just makes everything so much easier for not that much extra work! #1 tip for the class overall
I should begin by saying the uni screwed this prof over in CHE1V. They gave him WAY too many students (1000+ in one class) and it's clear he doesn't have a lot of experience with online classes. It was very disorganized and it wasn't clear what students should be learning. However, he's caring and did his best to minimize impact on students.
Dr. G is a amazing professor! His class is very organized and he provides so many resources that students can use to succeed in his class. To do well in this class do all the hw problems, practice tests, extra problem sets and go to office hours. I highly recommend taking Dr. G for CHE2A! He does everything he can to help his students succeed.
Pro. Gulacar is very caring and passionate about his subject. He is very kind about grading and gives probably the best curve ever! He also provides a lot of materials if you want to study. He does seem to have more HW than other teachers though.
Really good, very kind curve and overall amazing prof
i loved gulacar, he was always very responsive and his lectures were always clear. his homework was really helpful for exams. the exams are hard tho ngl, i had prior knowledge from AP Chem and it was still difficult. he provides alot of resources tho that help alot. would totally recommend!!!!
I loved gulacar for many reasons mainly bc of his caring personality. He cares a lot about his students and looks after them. Plus, his curve shocks many, including myself. I would say that to be discouraged by the level of difficulty. Gulacar's long hw assigments might be a pain, but it truly prepares you for the midterms and final. :)
Passionate professor but the course is extremely difficult. His accent hard to understand and he moves so quickly that I never learn anything from lecture. The homework assignments are helpful for learning content. The curve is huge: my C curved to a B. People with 40% passed. But it's necessary because the tests are so hard. Lectures recorded.
very hard class especially if you didn't take ap chem. paced way too fast. prof g is kind and helpful if you have any questions. the tests are horrible but the curve is insanely good. you have to rly study to do well, but he provides a lot of good resources.
Amazing professor and I'm really excited to take him again next quarter. He tries to give his classes the best possible curve for the exams, but this doesn't mean you shouldn't try to get good grades on assignments beforehand. He doesn't use minuses in his grades. It's def a difficult class but put time into studying and it'll be worth it.
I genuinely cannot overstate how much Dr. Gulacar cares for the success of every single one of his students. From sending out countless email reminders for his semiweekly review sessions, to the many worksheets on his Canvas, he is an amazing professor for my first general chemistry class. I am happily taking him again for CHE2B next quarter.
Chem GOAT fr. Lectures move fast but he teaches clearly, w lots of examples to supplement difficult concepts, and it's actually interesting. Midterms weren't bad but they don't prepare you for the very difficult final. Weekly homework is really lengthy but it is actually so helpful in learning & practicing concepts. His grading curve is the best.
Dr. Gulacar is a good professor, but his lectures often feel rushed and I didn't feel like I understood a lot of topics the first time he went over them. He has OH, but other than that, wasn't super accessible out of class, and the TA strike didn't help with that either. Very difficult class, but if you put in the work you can do good.
if you keep up with aleks/connect and attend office hours/review sessions, you'll be fine for the midterm and final. would honestly just study for the placement test as this course makes you learn an excessive amounts of topics that aren't needed til ochem. gulacar's a caring professor, but the disorganization of the course made learning hard.
Prof. Gulacar's exams are the best when it comes to curves among the rest of the other professors. An average of 60% on exams will most likely earn you a 'B' in the class. However, his lectures are very disorganized and are very hard to follow. Taking Gulacar will require a good amount of effort out of class, but he is willing to help his students.

Dr. Gulacar is the BEST. Lectures are thorough & even stops to answer Qs. MTs are identical to practice MTs. Lots of challenging material so practice daily. Curve is very generous (ended with ~68%). Hosts weekly OH. Graded on 2 MTs, final, HW, discussion, & lab. HW & discussion are free points so try to get ~60% on exams for a B. Highly recommend!
Professor Gulacar was really caring and tried his best with the amount of students he had and the online format. However, the course was organized a little inefficiently. This course relied heavily on ALEKS and Connect HW but it does cover basic chemistry concepts. It'll get you prepared for future chemistry courses but not really necessary.
A generally difficult course if you enter without prior knowledge. very lecture heavy and moves at a fast pace. lectures can be unclear at time. the optional hw is key in doing well in his class along with his practice midterms/finals. proffessor is constantly supportive of his students and has AMAZING curves
A very sweet individual and someone who is great to take for chemistry at any level.
Dr. G is a great professor. He takes the time to help all students and gives massive curves. You are expected to have a modest understanding of chem before taking 2A. CHE2A lab is unfair and a pain but only accounts for ~10% of your grade. Easy 2A professor, highly recommend.
Professor G is great. If you want an A you need to do all the extra modules, but his class is definitely passable without it. He has an amazing curve - the only reason why I passed. If you do very well on the labs and on one test and you should be fine for 2a.
Dr. G genuinely cares about his students and wants them to succeed. He provides lots of resources, and his office hours are great (he works through practice problems with students). His curve on tests is very generous, and he is open to feedback about confusing questions and sometimes removed unclear questions. Take him if you can!
Personally, I loved his lectures; he's excited to teach and very passionate. Tests aren't the worst and he has an amazing curve. Homework assignments are at most once a week, due on Sunday nights. Grade is based on homework, labs, and midterms/final.
He's a very nice guy. I don't have much background in chem which made the class feel pretty fast-paced. The exams were pretty hard but he has a really nice curve.
Professor G. really cared about his students! He provided LOTS of resources; I highly recommend taking advantage of them if you want to do really well in the class. He provides recordings of lectures, lots of practice exams, worksheets, and textbook readings. His teaching style may be a bit boring sometimes, but attending lectures is worth it.
If you're a 1st year & think chem is too hard, Gulacar is just confusing. His lectures went too fast for me to understand, & he often moved on from topics before I could write everything down. Some of the material I knew already & he did not explain those concepts well. The other resources he gives are helpful though, & the curve is very generous.
Professor Gulacar is very devoted to his students. He cares a lot and is always trying to help us do better. He gives a lot of supplemental material, so if you want to do well, you can. The tests are difficult, but I feel like they are fair. The office hour review sessions are very helpful!
Curves generously and provides great feedback and help on assignments. His exams are also very fair.
I LOVED HIS CLASSES! If you are not willing to work, you will not get an amazing grade, but he does give tons of resources for every topic he covers! Pay attention to the practice exams and you'll do fine! his curves are generous but his exams are tough.
explains things well and gives lots of review material but also expects a lot from students (literally said "avoid social interaction for 3 weeks to study for the final" in class). also is pretty particular about how to do things and called out a TA for asking differently. lectures go pretty fast, and held some weekend lectures to cover everything.
I LOVE HIM the best chem professor! He's such a sweetheart take him if you can. Exams aren't that difficult, I put in minimal effort and passed the exams. Just make sure to pay attention in lectures and you'll be okay. He always sent out positive emails and encouraged students to do well, gives his students max benefit (CURVES ARE DELICIOUS)
He is super caring and gives a lot of resources to pass the class. He wants all his students to succeed and that is very clear. Most of the grade is based on exams but that is how it is for most chemistry classes in this series. He also curves that class very generously.
Very organized Canvas page with so many resources for you to achieve the grade you want. Gulacar himself is very caring and shows genuine concern for low scores or attendance. A lot crammed into lectures but they give you some basis.
CHE2B is much easier content-wise than CHE2A. With this being said, Prof.Gulacar's lectures weren't always the best, but he granted the same hefty curves on every test. He's a professor who wants the best for his students, but his teaching style is not for everyone. Be ready to self-study a lot if you want to succeed in this class! Not too bad :)
Prof Gulacar is one of the best professors at UC Davis. He offers an insane amount of resources for the class in order to ensure that you are successful. He tries as hard as he can to give you as much grade benefits as possible to help your GPA and to make sure you pass the class. He offers so much support for even the smallest concepts.
most involved prof ever, really cared about students and their well-being. even though it was an incredibly tough class, he provided extra resources and went out of his way to host extra review sessions and office hours before each exam. difficult midterms, but the most generous curves i've ever seen. lectures were a bit hard for me to follow tho
BEST GEN CHEM PROFESSOR! Everyone wants him as their chem professor. If you would like the Chem 2A professor with the best grading/curve, I would choose Professor Gulacar. His office hours are very helpful, he reviews practice midterms and finals the whole time. The office hours are also recorded.
I really wish he was teaching CHE 2C for Spring 2023. He's an AMAZING professor; provides lots of resources to help you prepare for the exams. Very generous curve too! If you're more of a slow learner, I highly recommend doing readings before lecture to familiarize yourself with the content. In other words, take advantage of the resources he gives!
Out of all of the professors I have encountered at UC Davis, I have never met someone as caring as Dr. G. Not only does he give engaging lectures, but he also actively sends emails advocating for mental health and relieving stress throughout the quarter, while also sending encouragement to study. He truly wants every one of his students to succeed.
Professor Gulacar is one of the best professors I have had at Davis. He is super hands on and has so many resources on his modules. As long as you do all of his worksheets, you will do well in his class. His curve is also amazing and he inspires you to do great. His tests are not that difficult but the final made by all professors was difficult.
he provides a ton of resources on Canvas, has piazza, gives practice exams for midterms and final, super nice and tends to give out a little life and study advice at the start of lecture, great curve, drops your lowest discussion and homework scores, class graded on two midterms and a final, homework, lab and discussions
Gulacar is genuinely one of the nicest professors I ever had. He'll go out of his way to try to curve the class grades as much as he can to guarantee success to the most amount of students possible. He provides so many outside resources as well. However, his lectures sometimes feel rushed and it's hard to pick up the concepts at times.
Great professor! Tests are related to the hw. If you know how to do the hw, you would be able to get a great result from tests. He try his best to help students, curve a lot. The canvas site is organize well, lot of extra material and reading (not mandatory), you could really learn something in his classes instead of just passing the tests.
Such an amazing professor, really prepared me for moving on with the chem series. This was the only chem professor I have had so far where I actually learned something. While there is quite a bit of homework, its nothing that cant be handled. Lectures are amazing, and if you pay attention, you will pass. He really cares about his students passing.
Professor Gulacar is one of the most caring professors I have ever had. Even in such a big class, he made it clear that he was rooting for everyone's success. He provided many practice exams and extra problems, and his OH review sessions were recorded and super helpful! The exams were fair and the curves were very generous. Highly recommend.
I had him for both CHE 2A/B. He is truly such an amazing professor who really cares about his students. He would send messages to us to "go get sunshine" and "stay hydrated" etc. His curved saved me in both of those classes. He drops your lowest homework assignment and discussion grade. I wish he taught 2C :)
prof. gulacar is the most caring professor i have ever met. you can tell he genuinely cares for his students and wants them to do well not just in his class but in life as well. the content is really difficult and this class requires a lot of work but he makes up for it with his magical curve.
take him!! lots of practice tests, tests were very reasonable, INSANE curve, i think a 30 percent was a c and a 78 was a b, great lecturer, funny, cares about his students. would tell us often that we were the center of his world haha.
I didn't like lectures because he complains about attendance and they weren't very effective. Midterms were not what he told us to expect, but they were still easy with a HEAVY curve. Office hours are helpful and similar to midterms. He doesn't record full lectures, so attendance is basically mandatory which is so frustrating.
Gulacar's class was amazing -- especially his curves. The midterms weren't that bad but the curves gave a huge boost. He always wants to help his students and does his very best to help his students' grades through nice curves. Overall, great teacher, great class, would recommend.
Gulacar is so GOATED on so many levels. If you get the chance, plzz take him! He is amazing, he cares about his students, and he tries to make his class as stress free as possible.
Besides Enderle, Gulacar is a good choice. Everything about his course is okay. Wasn't easy, but wasn't too hard. You definitely need to study though. His curves are amazing though and he genuinely wants to help students pass their course. I would suggest taking his class but going to Enderle's lectures for material you don't understand.
Loved him! Gen chem is a tough course at Davis imo, especially since you're likely a freshman, but he was kind with grading and explained things in an organized and engaging manner. Would absolutely recommend him.
Dr. Gulacar is the best professor I've ever had. He offers ample resources and office hour review sessions to ensure the success of his students. Also, he has always been very responsive when I've had to email him. If you have the opportunity to take his classes, I highly recommend. The class is challenging bc of its fast pace but he's a great prof
Gen chem is just a hard class, but Gulacar is really sweet and truly cares for his students. Holds alot of review sessions that goes over practice tests. Midterm was fair, just study the practice midterms he gives. Provides lots of homework and things for practice. Lectures aren't mandatory, but very helpful
He's a great teacher that cares for his students and provides us with a lot of resources, and I mean a lot of resources for practice. Very little homework but a lot of optional work that's really helpful for tests and such. Really inspirational as well and very passionate for his work, and tries to inspire others as well.
Dr. G is a great professor who really cares for his students. There's a lot of homework, the lab is a headache, and his office hours are at awkward times, granted they're recorded. Tests are hard, and lectures feel a bit rushed. However his curve is life changing, turning Fs into Cs. You also can't see your grade until the final is over.
Dr. G is serious but cares about students' success. He cares about both students' grades and mental health and he gives useful study advice. He gives us a lot of resources for us to study. If you do the review exams and the worksheets he provides, which are all optional, you can do well in his course.
Dr. G is the most caring professor I've had during my time at Davis. He is very inspirational and caring. He sends us weekly motivational emails and provides more than enough resources to get as much practice as you want with the material. I highly recommend taking him if you ever get the chance.
Caring
Chem 2A is a very hard class in itself however Dr. Gulacar does an amazing job of providing resources for students and the curve of his class is very helpful. One of the best chem professors for sure.
Difficult exams are a hefty part of the grade, and test your conceptual understanding not just memorization. Dr. G is very generous with his curve. He definitely wants his students to succeed and provides tons of resources to practice so take advantage of those for a good grade. Caring and funny professor, but a challenging topic nonetheless.
Genuinely the most caring and thorough professor I've ever had! I struggled a lot in this class and passing was a shock but his mountains of resources make it near impossible to fail and he is very accessible. He is a wonderful teacher and I was very lucky to be his student.
He is a great chemistry professor. Good lectures, caring, organized, provides tons of materials and recourses, and very importantly, gives generous curves. I am very sure if you go to all(most at least) of his lectures, follow his canvas instructions, do his homework on time, and attend a few of his extra office hours, you will get at minimum a B.
I was scared walking into Chem 2A because I have never taken AP Chem and I knew I was going to struggle. Fast forward to now, yes, there was a lot of struggling, but Professor Gulacar is probably the most caring professor you could have. His curves made me cry tears of happiness so please please take his class.
Difficult class. The curve was life-changing. Around 40% was enough to pass with a C. There are many resources available on Canvas and everything is organized very nicely for navigation. Gulacar provides lots of additional help with his problem-solving office hours. The midterms and finals are very difficult. Spend time every day working on chem.
Gulacar is very nice and very good at explaining things. However, he goes very fast so it is hard to keep up. Most of the time I ended up having to teach myself a lot of the material. Overall, he does not give many tests which is nice, but that means when the test does come, there is a lot of material on it.
Gulacar is a very nice proffessor and his curve was very high for our class. His midterms and homework were challenging but overall he is a funny guy who truly cares about his students.
This is my 3rd time taking CHE2A and Prof. is the only reason I passed. He is very fair in his grading and gives immaculate curves. His lectures bored me but it is also my 3rd time hearing the material in his defense. Lots of homework so do not procrastinate! He makes tough concepts easy and it is extremely difficult to fail his course.
Dr. Gulacar is one of the most rewarding professors with the rigor of the curriculum. While tests are few and difficult, the curve more than makes up for the difficulty. Homework was time-consuming, but that is the nature of the class. If you can, take him!
Yall prof. Gulacar is AMAZING PLEASE TAKE HIM. He is such a funny little charming guy and while I hate chem with a burning passion he made it sort of fun. You can tell he cares so much for his students and he has sooo many resouces on Canvas. Use them! And also attend his office hours! Curves saved my grade but dont rely on them too much
Professor G is a great person. He is super caring to all of his students. The content and work load is definitely not easy but he makes up for it with his generous grading and caring personality. He even went out of his way to make virtual cards for everyone to cheer us up during thanksgiving break. Truly a great professor. Definitely recommend.
Gulacar was very caring, kind, respected. His accent makes him difficult to understand. His lectures are hard to follow. The exams are very difficult, but his curves are very generous. The curves will save you.
I think he's decent, cares about his students and has a good curve. In general, take him. As a first year student however, I only really got into my groove halfway through the quarter. So much homework. So many emails about studying 20 hours a week. Don't underestimate chem. Get the reader. Do practice exams. you'll be fine, if you practice.
Gulacar is a very nice and caring teacher! He really wants his students to succeed and has an amazing curve, I think 40% was passing. I got a 67% and it got curved up to a B :) Lots of homework and overall a very difficult class so make sure you don't fall behind. Labs were overall easy but depend on your TA, I loved mine!
Dr. G truly cares for all of his students and wants to watch you succeed. He provides many resources like textbook readings, practice problems, and very useful office hours if you need extra support. His tests were unnecessarily hard in my opinion but his curve will save you. Overall, not an easy A but you'll learn a lot.
Dr. G is interested only in the success of his students in Chemistry. He made difficult topics very palatable and was extremely lenient in his grading/curving. If you can take him for General Chemistry you absolutely should. He cares greatly about all of his students.
Truly a great professor to have for this class. His lectures are great, he posts recordings, has to s of review material, and his online office hours are super useful. All one needs to do well in this class are use the vast amounts of resources given to them by professor Gulacar.
Dr. G is an okay professor, but his class was extremely tough. He had lots of office hours but didn't go over problems that the students wanted but instead just went over problems of his choice. There wasn't really time to ask our own questions. His lectures were very fast & I couldn't keep up and understand how he was doing problems.
Gulacar gives you all the material you need to pass. I am absolute crap at chem but this class allowed me to actually learn. He gives plenty of pratice problems, exam, and more. YOU HAVE TO ATTEND LECTURE. He uploads videos but the lectures are phenomenal and really help. If you dont understand, watch back again. The curve got be from a B- to an A.
Dr.G is a great person, cares about students and is one of the best chem 2 series profs you can get. Lectures are fast because of amount of stuff necessary to get through. Curved by overall grade and it is a HEAVY curve.A lot of HW and pre/post lab work, but if you do all of the work and pay attention in lecture you shouldn't need to study extra.
Professor Gulacar is fantastic! His lectures are always informative, and he also sends us electronic cards for holidays throughout the quarter, which is so heartwarming. Please choose him if he teaches chemistry series classes, or else you will regret!
He's a nice guy, but I didn't enjoy his teaching style. Please go to his office hours and ask questions, they'll save you in the long run. Do the practice exams and questions, lots of practice is genuinely needed to pass his exams. They're pretty hard, I failed two of them. Attendance isn't mandatory, but it might as well be.
Dr. Gulacar is a truly amazing person, I just didn't enjoy his teaching style. His tests are easier than other teachers in the department, but he doesn't provide good review material for his midterms/final in my opinion. Your grade depends on how well you do on tests and he assigns much more homework than other teachers in the department.
Dr. Gulacar is such a caring and helpful professor. He holds 2 office-hour review sessions each week (and records them on Zoom) which were an integral part of understanding material and problems. He also gave us a ton of practice tests per exam, which were more than enough to help us get review in. He also curves very nicely! I 100% would recommend
Very passionate about what he teaches. Provides many resources to help you succeed in the class. Posts lecture videos and slides. Weekly homework assignments. Very easy to fall behind as there is a lot of content covered. Prepare to spend a lot of time studying outside of class. AMAZING CURVES!!!
Extremely passionate professor. Lectures move very fast. Long weekly hw. Hard class.
Prof. Gulacar is amazing! Genuinely cares about students. Go to lecture, and attend his office hours!!! He goes over all the practice tests (which are very similar to midterms). The final is pretty difficult, but his curve is fantastic. Take him! :)
Genuinely cares for students' success and understanding of chemistry. Slight accent, but you get used to it quickly. His midterms are like the practice tests, posts practices for the final too. He sent motivational cards to encourage students! Absolutely precious. Also, the gulacurve saved everyone's grade. Wish he taught other chem classes!!!
He cares so much about his students, and provides so many resources to help them succeed. The practice exams are similar to the real ones, but get prepared to study a LOT. Review notes after lectures, do the homeworks/labs. If you do really good on one midterm and do good in lab, you'll be fine. Out of all profs, he's got the best curve. I LOVE HIM
Dr. Gulacar is such sweet person and so helpful. He has a lot of practice exams that help a lot. His office hours are also recorded and extremely useful. Before tests he'll take time to hold extra office hours on the weekend. He has so many resources, so if you stay on track you can definitely do well.
He is a really good professor and does online review sessions which are about his practice midterms. He curves a lot so don't worry too much if you get a 50% or lower on your midterms you will probably have around a B or C in the class.
Get ready to study! Gulacar primarily goes over problems in lectures so all of the learning is outside of class. Super tough for someone who hadn't taken chem since sophomore year and didn't remember anything. Really cares about students tho and gives ample study resources, many practice tests, and so many office hours. If you study you can do well
Hands-down one of the best profs in UCD. I went to his lectures not because I had to- but because I LOVED them. His teaching style is awesome and is very funny. My lab TA was also a blast. Chem isn't easy, but prof prepares us by giving us lots of sample papers to prepare from. The test are a little tough, but generous curve. Take him 1000%.
The online format and assignments were intense but Gulacar made everything seem much more understandable. Aleks alone will help you pass the placement.
Chem 2A with Gulacar is very difficult, but it is worth the experience. His curves are insane, his exams are easier than other professors, and he truly cares about his students. He gave advice on how to go about the future, including how to start doing research.
I took Dr. Enderle's class but attended both lectures. Gulacar was fantastic. Lectures were clear and engaging (albeit fast-paced); he intertwined example problems, answering questions, and lecturing seamlessly and made the large lecture feel personal. Take him!
Taking che2a my first quarter at davis was really difficult, be prepared to work. Gulacar's lectures were kind of hard to understand unless I read the OLI section before lecture. There's OWL hw for each chapter (standard for che2 series). He's a nice man and you can tell he loves teaching chemistry. Get Enderle's reader to study and practice exams.
Class itself was very time consuming but Gulacar made it manageable. Beware of ALEKS!
Horrible at explaining, goes on tangents, and after trying to explain for less than a minute he jumps into an example and expects us to understand. When explaining examples he goes quickly and doesn't explain the process. Textbook doesn't help when lost in lecture. Curves the exams a lot but doesn't help if you don't understand.
Professor Gulacar is one of the best Chemistry professor in Davis. He clearly cares about his students a lot. He holds many office hours to prepare students for the exam and answer any questions students may have and hope I take him for the whole series! Chemistry is a hard topic but with the right professor, it's very manageable and interesting.
He is a good and caring professor but hard to grasp onto concepts. When he lectures he tends to ramble on about unnecessary things and then we have 30 minutes left where he rushes and depends on the students to answer questions. Curve is crazy for overall grade & slight curve on midterms. Weekly homework + discussion worksheets prepare to STUDY..
Honestly the best chemistry professor ever!! So passionate & genuinely wants his students to succeed. Tests were a little hard; however, the curve was immaculate. I will take his class again in a heartbeat!!
Love Gulacar. If you have taken chem prior to this course, then it's not too bad but you still should study. Gulacar is very kind when grading and it's not hard to pass the class. Hes very passionate about environment and green chemistry and he shares it often in class. Overall a good teacher and I will take again.
good lecturer but take TOO much time expressing his passion on environment friendly stuffs. can be hard for ppl who have never learned chem but i think is the best prof in this quarter. EXTREMELY BIG CURVE. lowest discussion score can be dropped. video records yes. easy tests similar to practices provided on canvas and OWL homework assignments.
Gulacar cares for his students. GODLY curve. Lectures occasionally had environmental stuff in them, but it was interesting. Tests were pretty difficult, but very doable if you studied and read the online textbook. He also has a cool accent
Great professor! Giving the lecture in a way that everyone can understand the content. Generous curve for the students, while with some homework and labwork load.
The first professor in my life who sparked my interest in chemistry.
Don't be lazy in this class. It's very evident that he cares about his students' success, and gives plenty of study material. He curves extremely generously. The material in the class isn't the most difficult to digest, but it requires repetition and practice. He provides several practice exams which are similar in difficulty to the real exams.
This is a great class. Professor G is a great professor who cares about his students. He gives really generous curve. If you plan on taking his class, please read the corresponding textbook for the lecture before hand. It will help you greatly. Lecture is quite fast pace. He also gives a lot of practice exams which are very useful.
The lectures are so fast and so complicated, but that Gulacurve did me so well. The labs are boring but tolerable if you're given a chill TA. Gulacar is also naturally funny and makes the dreadful lectures tolerable.
Gulacar truly loves his job and gives so many resources outside of class. Sometimes lectures can be a little fast paced, so I recommend reading lecture material before class. He is known for his VERY GENEROUS curve, so if you do the practice tests before the exams, then you should be fine.
Gulacar was a great professor! He not only taught amazingly but also provided lots of resources to guide in our learning! Definitely take him you wont regret it.
Except course content, he also talks about environmental issues, learning habit and so on. If you do most of practice test you will be good since his tests are fair. Pass AP Chem with a 5 don't need to worry much. One lab per week, assignement per unit, two midterms. Office hours go through tons of questions, which could be really helpful.
He cares about his students and the applications of chemistry. Most of the grade is based on the final and midterms. However, this class could be challenging for students who have not been in touch with chemistry during high school. It is recommended to study the lecture before or after class else, one would not understand the content easily.
Took AP Chem in high school, and this class was still fairly challenging. You can tell that Professor Gulacar genuinely cares about his students and for their overall success (good sense of humor too). He puts in extra time and energy such as holding extra virtual review sessions. I always love seeing the uplifting emails that he sends us via email
Perfect professor. Cares about his students. Clear explanation. Really kind curves to help students pass. Best general chem professor.
A very caring professor, really wants his students to perform well in his class, and also provides us with numerous inspirational messages. Lectures are fast paced and confusing and homework is long and tedious. However he has an amazing curve, the Gulacurve does wonders. Lab is difficult but if you have a good TA it makes everything better.
I came into this class without a chemistry background. Despite a lot of studying I was still getting 40 percents on the midterms/final and I thought I had to retake the class. However I passed with a C thanks to the curve. Lab was fun in my opinion but I had a cool TA. Gulacar is a passionate professor, and I am the only reason to blame for the C.
Very difficult curriculum, especially if you've never done chemistry before. He has a generous curve to make up for challenging tests. He is worth taking.
The tests are kind of hard but nothing compared to other professor tests...(Enderle) and homework takes a while to complete with that being said he's a very nice guy and offers a good curve. However, your experience is very dependent on TA since they could make 4-hour labs miserable, especially the long titration and pH labs.
He is fantastic and cares about his students. He explains clearly in detail in lectures, which makes me understand chemistry more.
His practice exams are pretty similar to the actual midterms and final and his curves are nice
took AP Chem in high school and thought this class was not bad at all. do ALL the practice tests and you are set (midterms basically the same + tried and true got 100 on both midterms). teaching is mid/good some stuff taught overcomplicated for no reason and occasionally goes on random tangents. tldr good prof and chill tests(esp comp to enderle)
Dr Gulacar is an amazing professor. My online gripe with him is that he tends to go on tangents and ends up speeding through material towards midterm season. He provides a lot of resources but it's up to you to make the most out of them and actually learn from them. Out of all sections we have the most homework. His curve makes it all worth it.
Very reliant on lecture and topic understanding as midterms and finals are based upon what is learned in class and from sources like OLI Torus. Heavy curve, but difficult tests to match that same expectation.
Curve was very good. Not particularly concise lecturer, his canvas is a lot to take in and sort of messy. Pretty good overall. His accent might take some getting used to.
Gulacar is great. His research outside class focuses on chemistry teaching, so he really puts a lot into his lectures. His review sessions are really helpful. Practice aren't great but get the job done. I didn't feel prepared for the final (since Enderle writes it). The midterm 1 was way easier than midterm 2 and the final.
He was an okay professor. He was very interested in what he was teaching so the lectures were interesting. The exams were very hard, but he uses an insane curve at the end of the year.
His chem2a class is great. If you're planning to take this class I recommend gulacar; his curves are pretty insane and I failed with a D because I did not try as much as I should have, but if you follow his recommendations and guidelines you should be in the A+/B- range. He is very caring and is willing to talk you through whatever time allows.
He's passionate about chemistry and cares about his students. I would definitely retake him.
Curves are great and midterms are easy compared to those in Enderle. The only downside is that lectures do get confusing to follow but that's simply because this course is hard in general. Also since the final isn't written by one single professor it's way harder compared to the midterm and you're less prepared since Enderle writes most of it.
Gulacar is by FAR the easiest CHE2 series teacher; his tests are nothing compared to Enderle's. In addition, his curve is EXTREMELY generous-if you want an easy A, take Gulacar. He is an alright lecturer, and provides plenty of practice tests before exams, however he doesn't explain topics in depth. Also, double the HW of other teachers on OWL.
Insane amount of concepts to learn, but he also provides you with tons of resources to succeed. Even if you fail, he gives generous curves and grade benefits. The fact that so much content is packed into one class is the department's fault, not the professor's fault. He's the chem goat.
TRUST IN THE GULACARUVEEEEE, LOVE THIS MAN. AND HE TURKISH, MY PEOPLEEEE. On a serious note, Dr. Gulacar is amazing. His exams are exactly like his practice ones, lecture and pre-reading are VERY helpful. He is VERY generous with curves, and overall an amazing prof. The accent might not be for some people but it is fine. THE MYTH, THE LEGEND, DR. G
Professor actually cares about his students succeeding, you can tell he genuinely wants you to succeed. He's definitely meant for incoming students as he pushes methods of study habits, which might be a little annoying to older students. Overall, I'd definitely recommend him because most professors here feel like they are out to get you.
I took Professor Gulacer's first year seminar on SDGs and it was very insightful and inspirational. You can tell he is very passionate about this and he encourages conversation so you always feel free to speak your mind!
Dr. Gulacar genuinely cares for his students. He provides endless amount of resources for students to do well in this course. Have 2 midterms, the final and 7 homework assignments. It's chemistry, so you need to put in the work, but with his resources, there is no excuse for not doing well in the class.
He does not do a good job giving lectures and his midterms are based off of things we do not learn in class. You are also expected to know/ teach yourself concepts in the lab. TA's are not much help because they only go over practice problems in the discussions assignments. I do not recommend.
Good professor, really care about students. Average level of workload, not that much actually. His midterms will not test a lot but just very basic concept so don't worry about that. Big Big Big curve! I did really bad on my two midterms but overall grade is much better than I expected. Love you, Dr. G.
Hot take, Gulacar isn't a very good professor. His lectures are well structured but unclear & too fast. the curve is good but he doesn't give much info about what to expect re: curves or grades until after exams are taken. Practice exams are from 2008 & dont help prepare you much & the content on midterms and final was very unfamiliar. overrated
Gulacar has amazing lectures, he goes through them quick but does so to cover all the things we need to go over in the quarter. His tests aren't too bad if you practiced/studied enough beforehand. He has an awesome curve and really cares about his students' success and has loads of resources for studying (practices, online textbook, etc).
I had him for CHE2A and CHE2B - he moves really fast in lectures, and this class is no joke. The only way to fully understand and get a good grade is to put in at least 12-14 hours of studying per week. He has a lot of resources to study, though, and genuinely wants all of his students to pass. Also, use Enderle's reader to study for the final.
He is a great professor if u want to understand the concepts of chem. Does not go over prac problems that will be on the test. Final is a curve ball because he does not teach you those things. A great guy, just blind sided a lot of students. Still have a lot of respect, grade does not reflect him as a teacher. Truly wants his students to succeed!
Gulacar's lectures were material-heavy. He only posts important parts of the lectures which helped me, but also frustrated others. Homework and discussion material is standard. He provides a lot (almost an overwhelming amount) of resources to study, but midterms can still be a little tricky. Overall preferrable to other chem professors at UCD.
Dr. G clearly cares about his students, reflective of all the resources he gave us, like practice exams, OLI Torus (interactive textbook), OWL homework, and review sessions. The lectures can go a bit fast, but there is a LOT of content to cover in just 50 minute sessions, so I don't blame him. Just be prepared to study on your own time.
Gulucar dedicated lots of his time to helping students, whether its holding review sessions or the influx of resources and practice tests he provides for his midterms. Prepare early for the exams, and for the final, make sure to utilize Enderle's Reader.
Bro would always send us a motivational ahh email at the most ungodliest of hours every Sunday morning. i remember he told us to go start studying for one of our midterms even tho it was like three weeks away. love this guy tho no shade
GULACAR SAVED ME AMEN. No for real though he was very kind and understanding all quarter. The practice tests weren't always helpful but honestly going to lecture was very very helpful for me. Using the slides he provides to take notes is VERYYY useful and I heavily suggest it. I do recommend keeping up with the lectures as much as possible.
Honestly a really nice professor. The canvas is a bit disorganized and hard to navigate, but he has lots of resources to take advantage of. I personally never went to lecture, but with the resources he gave, I was able to get high A's on all the tests.
He was a great professor who always inspired his students to do their best while maintaining a fair grading scheme that catered towards the students rather than ego, like some professors. I would take him a million times over, even if his lectures are fast paced, but the only thing I hated was that the final was written almost entirely by Enderle.
Gulacar had well organized lectures which were easy to follow and at a good pace. Midterms were similar to the practice tests provided, and the review sessions were definitely helpful! The final was harder than the provided practice ones for sure, so use the Enderle practice tests. Overall, fair grading if you put in the work.
Lectures are mid but an amazing person in general. Absolutely cares about all students and has a decent curve. One thing I hated is that he never gives full sample exams, just very old tests with some questions that are not even relevant. So for the final, I would ask a friend if their Professor gave a sample.
Super great prof. He give me a very solid start in che 2 series. Giving easy midterms and the curve are generous. Still, be mindful that the final would be given by all prof and being harder than the midterms. Yet, the practice tests would get you prepared!
A very caring professor that wants to see his students succeed. I would say that passing in Dr. G's class is very achievable, getting an A on the other hand has felt impossible in my 2 quarters with him. His curves are generous; Gulacar is a great start to the CHE series. However, his class has been a heavy workload.
Prof Gulacar was a great teacher with lots of helpful resources. Truly an understanding man who is very good at chemistry and loves to share his knowledge. Take his class you won't regret it.
Gulacar wasn't necessarily bad, but he tried to cover lots of material in class so he went really quickly. He had a good curve and the tests were difficult but not horrible. He could have spent more time explaining, but overall he was ok.
Loved his weekly inspirational emails! People were bashing him on piazza about a poor curve but it was not really needed because final was sooo easy (for me at least. lol.) Overall, people who complained just did not study enough. Stop blaming your poor study habits on this poor sweet prof, do some self reflection pls...
He cares for his students and the curves were very generous. The class itself is just heavy on work cause its a stem course. His practice exams are pretty old and can be helpful but I wish he gave us more updated practice exams given the course has changed over the years. He's a passionate lecture but can go off on irrelevent topics.
His midterms were a little difficult but he did give a lot of resources. Curve was a little small this quarter but overall he was a nice and caring prof
Took his 2a, 2b is somewhat more difficult. He is those kind of teacher I prefer, provides a lot of resources, practice question and help. Your agency is critical (in univerisity generally), practise more, ask others for help. Curve is generous.
This class was incredibly frustrating. Lectures often left me more confused than before. The professor didn't explain the concepts clearly. The exams were way harder than the homework or practice problems. Would not recommend unless you're prepared to teach yourself everything.
Bro is always in a rush. It could be the first lecture of the quarter and he will say "We are behind and need to hurry". He's such a cool guy but omgggg
I took this FRS without realizing that this prof was a chem teacher and honestly was surprised how much I loved the course. Despite how poor my science knowledge is I learned so much more about how it worked through the GDP's analyzed. This prof was awesome and the content provided was very straightforward. HW due Fridays & 1 presentation.
So much homework. Doesn't explain things well in lectures and expects you to immediately understand things as soon as he talks about it. He doesn't give you access to Enderle's readers or practice exams. Just take Enderle.
The gulacurve is real. Gulacar has amazing lectures, but he is really fast paced so you definitely have to review everything on your own to understand. Going to lectures and doing the homework will set you up well for his tests. Also, he gives lots of practice exams (sometimes he takes questions from them, sometimes they're not relevant). the goat
Bless Gulacar
I heard he uses special grading system that removes the - off the letter grade. However, this quarter he decides to "take off this special curve" and there's little curve. His midterms are way too easy that didn't prepare me for the Final, which was mainly written by Enderle. I didn't do bad on the midterms but the final destroyed me.
His lectures aren't super relevant or helpful and his accent can be kind of hard to understand. He gives a ton of resources to study the concepts on your own (practice exams, worksheets, review sessions, etc.) and you need them. His grading seems to be vibes based, never understood it. I personally preferred Enderle.
He was the most passionate general chem professor I had and made lectures entertaining enough to focus. Owl was good to reinforce material and really high curve. Chem 2b is the easiest general chem in the series for sure.
2A & 2B. Dr. Gulacar truly cares about his students' success. Practice exams are identical to exam questions and are pretty straightforward. His accent isn't a problem at all. Only complaint is the lecture pacing can be kind of slow at the beginning, then rushed towards the end of class. Colossal curve. Really made chem enjoyable.
Guys make sure to study the homeworks, they're VERY informative and help you to understand the material very well. His curve was fat, I think a passing for the first midterm was like a 23%. Phenomenal lectures, and posts the slides ahead of time. He want you to gt involved so do that! Asks questions during lecture and form a study group!
Overall, he is a fantastic professor. He's really kind and cares about his students a lot. You do have to watch the prerecorded lectures and read a bit of the textbook. I recommend attending the lecture reviews he holds voluntarily as it would aid you a lot in understanding the concepts and material. ALEKS was a pain though.
Professor Gulacar is a great professor. He provides LOTS of resources for every concept. Discussion sessions with TA's were helpful because we did practice problems from the chapter. Some lectures contain info irrelevant to the course so be mindful when you can save yourself time. ALEKS hw is most of the studying you need to pass midterm and final.
Very sweet guy, this course is very easy but I cannot say anything about his higher level courses.
Lab for this class is only like 20% of your grade, so pass the lecture portion. Tests were based on labs and lecture examples. Learn the math for the problems. Homework was extensive on top of lab reports and pre labs. Don't fall behind what so ever! Go to lecture, office hours, any help to pass. Not easy but it's hard work.
Dr.Gulacar cares about his students; he wants his students to succeed. So many resources are provided, including review sessions, practice exams. He made me feel like I have hope, the GOAT.
Practice exams are almost identical to the real exams, his lectures always feel long but watching the videos are a lot harder in my opinion so I def recommend going to lecture, he is super responsive on piazza and thorough w/ his answers, super kind and funny guy, and he doesn't curve individual tests but the overall grade curve which is very good!
uses ALEKS for homework which can be infuriating, but it does really help you learn because it tells you what you are doing wrong. VERY passionate about what he teaches.
Dr. G's class has a lot of homework, but he's a great professor who really cares. He holds loads of review sessions and answers questions there. His lectures are clear and directly relevant to the exams. If you do all the practice tests and go over the lectures, the exam is straightforward. He's so good that I'm taking his class again next quarter.
The prof encourages questions and participation from the class, and I like how he cares about each individual. He also have zoom meetings for review. Pro: Caring, Encouraging, He is famous for his curves. Con: fast lectures (for ppl who only taken hs chem), required to self study for hrs everyday to pass the class T-T.
One of the best professor ever, he actually cares for your mental health and give so much review and curve to help you with your college journey. 1000% will take again.
He's class is very good and clear. No worry about grade, because he will curve. The final grade is conprise of many parts
Professor Gulacar is one of the most caring professors you will meet at Davis. Prior to this course, I was pretty dispassionate about chemistry, but his enthusiasm has made me excited to continue taking chemistry with him. As a student balancing a job and other duties outside of class, Gulacar makes it easy to do well in a usually difficult course!
Dr. Gulacar is the most understanding and passionate professor I have ever met. He cares about his students' participation and engagement with the material, and wishes nothing but the best for everyone. He truly imprints his love of chemistry and making an impact on the world, and I would easily choose to take another course with him.
He is a very passionate professor and always encourages you when you are about to give up. But he didn't explain many theories and problems clearly, so I spent most of my time teaching myself. Also, the workload was HUGE! Prepare at least 5 hours on your weekly hw.
Goated professor very caring about his students, class is a tough one esp coming from a non-chemistry background but put in the work and it will pay off. USE GIVEN Resources
This class is brutal at times -especially the midterms. That being said, the G in Gulacar stands for GOAT. He is super caring and gives you lots of resources, hosts review sessions and gives generous curves. You will need to lock in but if you make use of all the resources he provides you should do fine.
Not gonna glaze, this class is hard for students who didn't take AP chem or have a decent background in chem. You need to lock in. But he gives hella resources and u can tell he genuinely cares ab u and wants u to do well. Bro would literally spend his own weekend hosting office hours.. Oh yea, GO TO THE ZOOM REVIEW SESSIONS!!!
This class is difficult even if you have prior chem experience, but Gulacar is very caring and wants you to succeed. You will have to put in a lot of time into studying outside of class, but he provides tons of resources, so utilize them and don't procrastinate. I definitely could've gotten a better grade had my study habits been a bit better.
Absolutely loved gulacar!! Use every resource he proved, especially the online review sessions he hosts. He goes over similar questions that will be on the midterms during the review meetings, so attend them like their mandatory. He is very caring and you can see that he wants his students to succeed. Just overall phenomenal chem professor!!!
His lectures are well planned, but it's almost funny how much he treats them like TED Talks. He clearly cares about his students success, though. He claims he curves to the max the department will allow. By far the best part about his class is the resources he gives for tests. He gave 9 or 10 practice tests for each midterm and final.
Midterms harder then other professors such as Hayashi. If hes available take him over gulacar other then him gulacar is the best professors. His midterms are extremely hard but still easier then enderles and there is a HUGE curve. 40% and 35% rounded to a C for us, but his very difficult exams are the reason.
Dr G clearly cares for his students and loves teaching everyone. His exams are very difficult, but he applies a generous curve at the end due to it. He offers so many resources, it can be overwhelming tbh, but he truly wants students to excel. As other CHE 2A courses this is not an easy class, but he understands that. (I will take CHE 2B with him)
Dr. G clearly really cares about his students! Just going to lecture is probably not enough to pass - Do all the homework, practice assignments, and textbook problem sets. He provides a huge amount of study materials and resources: Use them!!! The curve was INSANE this quarter, many people passed who otherwise wouldn't have.
Very caring and sends a lot of inspiration emails. The class is tough but his canvas is super organized. Focus on the practice midterms and finals and you'll do good
Dr. Gulacar's lectures do get a little dull, and his office hours are not super helpful (Zoom only), but it is obvious he cares about learning chemistry more than weeding students out. The curve is generous and there are plenty of practice resources to help students do well on tests. HW material closely corresponds to tests, so pay attention.
He's awesome but the exams were mad hard and the curve did not carry that much.
Gulcar really is the GOAT. He was super nice and understanding in lectures, and he seems to really care about his student's wellbeing and success. Also the curve is glorious.
His tests were difficult but he supplements it with an amazing curve.
I loved Dr. G he was the absolute best. That being said, if you didn't take AP Chem or some sort of hard lab based chem, you'll have to do a lot of outside work. He does have tons of review sessions though and they're very helpful. He also has an incredible curve (tho I don't understand how scores are so low). anyways I loooooved him so much!
good teacher overall a bit hard to follow just due to the amount of info covered, youll need some baseline in chem to succeed, his curve is amazing though.
Tests are not too bad and the curves are AMAZING. Doesn't give -/+ in his grades which can help or hurt your GPA. Overall, it is almost impossible to fail this class and if you somehow do...it's a skill issue.
Dr. G was a solid professor and made his lectures easy to follow and pay attention to. His "office hours" are on Zoom and are at kinda weird times if you have other classes, but they are SUPER helpful if you are confused. I didn't have a lot of chem experience, but he gave a lot of materials to practice and learn. His curve was also very generous.
Great professor, but honestly, you success in this class is all up to you, how you study and prepare for tests. Also, for the lab sections, it depends on who you get for TA. This class provides great curves for midterms and finals. It can be overwhelming at times, but its easy.
He's very passionate about his job. He's extremely helpful and active on Piazza. Additionally, he provides lots of practice exams and holds morning review sessions. Exams are average, not too easy and not too hard. And, the curves are massive. Very doable to get an A. Had no knowledge of chemistry and still got a B+, just fumbled my midterm.
Gulacar is a very kind and caring prof! He absolutely cares about his students and sends the sweetest messages through Canvas every week. He sent an online postcard with one of his heartfelt messages and I nearly cried. So so sweet. However, his accent IS a bit hard to understand at times, but lectures are good and curve is FAT. Lots of resources!
Definitely cares about the students despite having so many at the same time. Held review/problem solving sessions and posted practice exams to help us get ready for tests. The exams were hard but had a great curve. Overall a really tough class though, try to study at least a little every day instead of cramming.
Lots of homework; the material was hard to learn, as expected from a chemistry class. But he is the GOAT indeed, very caring, and I see his dedication to trying to help students every way possible. Lots of self-studying is needed. Labs are fine depends on the TA tbh. To pass this class STUDY, STUDY, STUDY!!!! GULACURVE EXISITS, AND HE IS THE GOAT.
