Really enjoying the class! I took the class in the first place to learn about the history and culture. However, I'm learning so much more. You must learn to cultivate your critical reading skills and realize that there are always two sides to what is said. How you interpret something may not be how others view that same article.
Pablo is a nice guy and all but I think he asks too much out of the class. You really have to wanna go to class and read some boring readings. He requires a lot out of you, and I think its hard to maintain with having a full load of classes. Choose wisely.
a lot of work but good teacher
He is a rather horrible teacher. He requires alot of work, to much any normal college student w/ a full course load & a job. Is NEVER clear about anything.. & even w/ alot of effor you leave the class learning nothing
Fantastic teacher went into Mexican American History with low hopes but learned a lot from the class.I actually learned more than had originally thought.Great teacher great learning techniques. You must have the time to learn in order to achieve greatness if you are employed fulltime and trying to go to school, this probably isnt the class for you:)
There was a LOT of reading required for this class, as well as extensive note taking. Only 2 tests during the semester and you could use your notes for them. Pablo is a nice guy though and easy to talk to. Even though he assigned a decent amount of work, I'd take another class of his.
He is very knowledgeable about Chicano history. The class was demanding, but I learned a great deal. You leave inspired to help change the world around you.
Great teacher
He knows his stuff but his class is not easy. He uses the book a lot and you need to do the homework in order to pass.
He gave you lots of homework and reading/ However he is excllent in teaching stuff. would recommend him to those willing to work hard.
He is too much of an intellectual and focuses on ideology a bit too much which is over most students head. However, he is challenging and pushes the students ability to understand the larger picture. He seems more of a university professor than a CC professor. Forces you to read (even if you don't to:) Would recommend only if you want to learn
His class is intense. You have to really read the book to understand what he is talking about. If you like history take his class but I personally didnt like his teaching style.
At first, I was really interested in taking this class. Then, we just did group work constantly and presentations at every class meeting. We were basically teaching the class for him. He only taught one lecture at the very end of the semester right before the final. And he gave us tons of reading to do. Not fun.
Makes the class harder then it has to be for 101. Wouldn't recommend if you want an A.
Didn't know that reading was something negative. Challenges everything you learned about History which some do not like (cause we like to live in bubbles) but interesting stuff
Pablo is an excellent professor. He helps you think about what it is your learning by discussing the readings he gives you and his lectures. I found the class to be very interesting as well as rewarding. He mentions at the start of the semester there will be considerable reading and some subjects and lectures people might be offended of,good class
Pablo is a good professor who helps you in using your thoughts of what it is he is teaching you. I enjoyed his class and learned alot. He lets you know there will be reading, so if you do care about learning something take his class.
He is GREAT!
Pablo is an excellent professor, and pushes you to learn and develop your own thougths. However, if you want an easy-A class, this is not it. If you prefer a quality education, and knowledgeable professor, this is it. I worked hard for my A in the class, and learned a lot.
He really knows his stuff! I feel like making a difference everytime I come out of class.
awsome teacher, expects alot from every student. alot of reading and extremly high amount of writing. I would take this class or any of his classes again. I just wish the quizes were'nt on sundays, but during the week. quizes should be fast these take me the entire day.
Loved the class after I relized his teaching style is diffrent than most history teachers. He focuses on Physicology of history, rather that specific events and dates or even people. It took me awhile to understand what he was teaching. but once i did unterstand i loved and got so much out of the class. alot of reading and writing.
Some days I forgot which class I was seating in. This guy was all over the place. The group work, for me, was extremely annoying. Overall decent professor.
Completely enjoyable, I love finding a professor with passion. Minimal Reading, and he appreciates different aspects of analysis. Nice to see a man teaching about the injustice towards women - think outside the box. Left always thinking, and with tons of inside jokes with my friend. Definitely take it. He's adorable, and completely passionate. :D
He is a good teacher but be prepared to receive a lot of work. If you do not like to read do not take this class. The work is not hard it just takes a very long time to complete.
Originally took class because he got mostly good reviews. Regret it now because it just wasn't the right class for me. Missed class one time and got no email response or communication back whatsoever so I was very behind and confused with no help or direction. Overall good professor but lots of reading, lots of note taking. Be prepared.
Ok. So this class is horrible.. It's dull. I happened to get an A because... those notes you can write for each chapter you're assigned and they're extra credit points. I am unsure if he still does that but that saved me. Then there was a project on someone from that time period that also saved me. The tests are awful. I did C average on them.
He's amazing! He really wants his students to succeed but if you don't make the effort, you can't expect a good grade. He has readings but they aren't very long. He doesn't use chronological order and shows his students different perspectives. I've had him for many classes and adore him! He discusses all the readings in class as well!
He is such an awesome teacher! He will help you with whatever you don't understand and if you come to his office, he will EXPLAIN everything to you. I HATE history, but in his class, I actually built an interest in it, suprisingly. I got the highest grade in his class too! :)Lots of reading yes, but it's worth the knowledge.
Pablo is an awesome teacher. He provides you all the information that you need to succeed in his class. You read over a chapter and take the test before you learn about it in class. If you actually do it, this allows you to be prepared for intelligent discussion in class when he is teaching you. He's great, and I would take him again.
professor landeros is a great teacher he really knew his stuff so much so it made me want to go into the chicano studies field pablo is one of the best teachers i have ever had in school grade school and up i fell behind but pablo never lost faith in me and kept me going to i really recommend him for future students *****
He calls on students and you have to have read the chapter before class to be able to answer when he calls on you. The hardest thing is the essay questions in the quiz you take every week. once you figure out how he wants you to answer them it is easy. You learn a lot of info in his class and it requires a lot of work. overall I enjoyed his class
I enjoyed him as a teacher, but he goes in depth in subjects I'd rather not know about or talk about. Slightly questioning religion. IF YOU ARE A RELIGIOUS PERSON DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS. He is rather condescending and made me feel uncomfortable with how open he was about some topics.
Dr. Pablo Landeros is a phenomenal professor he is very passionate about what he teaches i have had the privilege to attend more than one of Dr. Landeros Classes and came out more knowledgeable after each one i highly recommend you take his courses whether its the womens studies or cultural studies it is well worth it you cant go wrong.
Absolutely loved the class,I was sad for it to end. He is passionate about the subject and is up to date on current events & how they are relevant to history. Homework is often but is simple and not too time consuming. Expects class participation, however, if you do the reading, it is easy to contribute. Learned so much & loved the films he shows.
Best class I have ever taken, Pablo is a great teacher and totally changed the way I look at myself as a Hispanic, I learned so many new and interesting things I did not know before. Lectures are fun, be ready to do a lot of reading, homework and participate, all very easy and if you do it you get an automatic A. He is a great professor!
Amazing lecturer! One of the best professors I've had so far. His lectures were interesting and easy to follow along. At times the readings got tedious but in the end I felt really accomplished with what I've learned from each of them. He helps you look at the bigger picture. I enjoyed the course a lot and would definitely recommend him :)
Had this professor a few years ago. His class and my ap classes set me up for history at nau. I highly recommend.
Landeros is one of the best instructors I have ever had. He is so intelligent and funny! One issue I have had in the past is professors either only engage the intellectuals in the class or the average student. They struggle to engage both at the same time, but Landeros knows how to do both and he does it well. His class make you a better person tbh
He is a good professor, but don't take online courses though no extra credits.
Great teacher! Passionate and extremely knowledgeable. Interesting/engaging lectures. Willing to discuss the uncomfortable; the harsh realities of the past that have influenced us culturally and socially. Eye-opening. Just read/do the work, and you will leave class with knowledge relevant to your lifeand a passing grade. Loved his class.
I enjoyed the content learned in class. He is very good at explaining and giving examples.I would recommend his class.
Fantastic instructor! I learned a great deal from the classes I took with him. He is an engaging lecturer and extremely knowledgeable. He challenges his students and does not let you slide by with sub-par work which I appreciate. We need more teachers like Pablo.
awesome class
This class was the absolute best! No surprise assignments, the midterm and final were based off all your notes, extra credit and flexibility with assignments. The instructor is easygoing and understanding. The content he teaches is easy to grasp and positively educational
He is very clever in the subject and always makes the class interesting. As well, he approaches learning in different aspects like group work, lectures, reading, etc. Always happy to be in class as well, makes the class refreshing to be in.
I took the Summer online class. He grades easy and if you do miss a few points he will give feedback as to why. He grades quickly, so your grade stays up to date. He responds quickly to emails. The textbook was used each week. There was lots of homework assignments because it is compressed into 5 weeks, but nothing too challenging.
I took this class online & it was all busy work. There were so many writing assignments and after spending hours on those, he would ask similar questions on the test which you would have to write yet again. If you don't want to spend AT LEAST 15 hours per week on his homework, then don't take this class. Find another teacher for this course.
Great class. Youll definitely learn something new each day. I just didnt like how he randomly calls names for answers putting students on the spot. That felt like high-school days, but make sure all assignments are completed to your best ability.
Text book is around 150$ but you are constantly using it. Gives notes everyday that are detailed and accessible on tests. You take weekly quizzes with 75% MC and the rest is essay type questions. Depending on points for question they are usually long, but you have to really think about the answers. Overall very good class.
Very engaging. One of the few classes I have taken at this college that actually challenges me to think rather than put words on paper. The work load was a lot but not overwhelming. Changes the delivery of the material, not everything you learn will come from the book. One of my favorite classes so far.
Gives hard homework and expects a lot from you. He calls you out in front of class to read and I didn't like it at all. Don't use any electronics in the class even for notes or he will keep looking over your shoulder.
I really enjoyed Pablo's class, especially the material and how it connects to real life situations in the present. I found the material and discussions, even on controversial topics insightful, meaningful, and even humbling. Highly recommend this course, just make sure to not fall behind on work and pay attention and it is an easy class.
I took the summer version of US History 1860 - 2015. It was a great class and I would highly recommend it.
Great class and professor. Assignments are fun and you get to watch a few films.
Pablo was a great professor. I took the class online over the and got above 100%. There was a lot of writing assignments and reading from the textbook but it was very manageable. He gives great feedback and responds quickly to emails. I highly recommend taking this class.
I took this class this summer online class in 5 weeks. The class is very assignment heavy, especially with the textbook. However if you do the work and all the extra credit assignments, you will excel in the class. I ended up with over 100 percent in the class.
I am taking women's history and this class is a very quiz-heavy class. Be prepared to take a 25+ question-long quiz per module. He also doesn't assign much homework so be ready to ace those quizzes. Overall, he responds fast but I am not a fan of all these quizzes that we have to do.
Every assignment requires reading from the textbook so definitely get it. This class is not just book work. Sometimes he had us watch and analyze movies which i enjoyed. He is a hard grader so it is important you are detailed in your work and presentations. I did spend hours on certain assignments, but he grades well if you put in the effort.
This was one of my favorite courses to take and the only difficulty I had was written prompts since he is very strict on how he graded those. His assignments were organized easy to follow and a test was always after a lecture, video or article. Everything is open note and not timed so you will definitely pass if you put in the effort.
I loved Professor Landeros! It was very obvious that he enjoyed the subjects he taught and made lectures very interesting. Very easy to contact outside of class and offers a good amount of extra credit. If you need to take a history class, take his!
This class is fantastic! It mixes both U.S. history with contemporary thoughts and opinion-based discussions. The professor himself is fantastic, always willing to help, and reads everything. You have to work for your grade, but if you're like me and struggle with history. Don't worry; there is a lot of extra credit!
Mixes a lot of different lectures from other classes to give an accurate depiction of U.S. history. He teaches real and raw history, which explains the glory, hardships, and trials we as a nation face(d). He did a fantastic job, and I have loved every part of this class. There is also ALOT of extra credit, no excuse not to get an A.
Professor Landeros is very knowledgeable in his field and easy to respect. There is ALOT of reading and writing in his class. This class has ALOT of assignments.
He is a great profesor, I definitely recommend him, this class was very interesting and not difficult to understand.
He seems like he really loves what he's teaching, but the man's workload for a summer course and selective grading I wasn't ready for. Don't take him unless you are going to spend (at minimum) 20 hours a week working on his class over the summer.
i took his online ccs101 and his lectures were really in depth and super interesting. definitely pay attention to his side commentary during the video lectures because they pop up in the quizzes. everything is pretty self explanatory easy A if you pay attention and do the work
This class was very difficult. The workload for a summer course is VERY heavy, his grading is very tough. He is passionate about his teaching, but he is also very confusing in his verbiage and wording. I would not take this class again.
Online, this course consists of textbook reading, textbook quizzes, and either writing or documentary watching assignments. Easy class if you really do the work. If you use AI, don't take this class, as he will rightfully change the course setup to prevent the use of it.
Extremely difficult grader that picks apart papers and takes points off for minor things. He requires writing techniques that won't ever be used in another class and hold no educational value. The class grade average on assignments is low, and people fail his class. Would never recommend him.
Class was relatively easy. You read a chapter, take a quiz, watch a lecture and do a short written assignment applying what you learned. No midterm or final so once you are done w the module, you do not need to recall that info. has extra credit.
Participation in lectures is very much needed for this class.
Pablo Landeros is the best professor I've had yet. I took this class without looking at Rate my Prof and got extremely lucky. This class is mostly lectures with about five pages of reading a week however both are really intriguing. If Pablo was my teacher for every class, I'd never miss a day!
Awesome professor!
Amazing Professor! You can tell he loves what he does, very passionate about what he is teaching.
Professor Landeros is really smart, I really enjoy that he actually knows a ton of the subject he teaches and solves any questions. He is respectful with students and tries to make the class interesting by not just reading from the slides on the power point presentations, but explaining and taking time to let students add more to the lecture.
Professor Landeros was a very insightful professor when it came to Chicano and Chicano studies. Mandatory to be at class ON TIME!! or else points will be docked against you. He always made the lectures goof and fun I will say that actually doing the work makes the lectures all the better because you can participate with his lectures.
This course offers opportunities to spend quality time studying readings, participating in discussions, challenges & experiences relevant to Chicano history and today. This course values deep awareness, meaningful reflections of Chicana/o's and their importance. I personally embrace & value the portrait & reflection of our unique Chicana/o.
Dr. Landeros teaches with such a passion you can't help but feel inspired! overall great class, easy weekly readings and amazing course and definitely would look for classes with this professor!
One thing I could say I wish we got see what we got wrong in the quiz but overall, it was great class to be in to learn more about the past about Chaina/o culture.
Great material and great class! Dr. Landeros makes the material immersive and keeps students engaged.
He is a very educated professor. Very funny and interesting. What he says in his syllabus is very accurate and will drop you if you miss more than 3 classes. Doesn't give much extra credit so make sure you're really reading the articles he assigns for quizzes because those affect your grade the most. Other than that I loved this class.
Sparks love for learning that hasn't been there for a while!
Great Professor and lectures! I liked the way he taught so much that I'm taking his history class this summer.
His class is fairly easy as long as you attend class everyday. I would suggest taking notes and really listen to his lectures. He encourages student to speak and give our opinion's on the subjects we are learning; including our own experience's. He is a great listener and uses our example's to explain or add to his own point's. 10/10 Recommend.
I really enjoyed taking his class as he is very understanding and made his lectures really easy to understand. He also made the concept fun to learn as he went into depth with every concept.
professor Landeros class was really easy but lots of reading involved. Reading and watching all the lectures will easily give you a high grade
Dr. Landeros is a great professor! I typically struggle retaining historical information, but it was easy to understand the Chicana/o Studies course! The articles are hand-picked by Dr. Landeros, & although some could be a bit lengthy, I appreciated how context-focused they were. Be prepared for lockdown browser recorded lectures & exams though!
definitely recommend taking this course! i did take it for credit however you do learn a lot. this course was very easy and straight forward! lots of reading but nothing no one cant handle!
Really enjoyed his class! Easy to follow along and very organized.
Dr. Landeros was an amazing professor. He cared about his subject and his students being able to succeed in his class. He provides all of the material you will need for class and has very open communication. He is fair with grading. The only way to not pass his class is to put in zero effort.
Professor was great, always checking up. The workload wasn't too light nor heavy mostly quizzes and discussion boards every so often, it was a easy class and I would highly recommend.
Class CCS101 was a good experience for me. The assignments weren't the worst Ive ever taken. You have to be on camera for the lecture and quiz assignments but its not so bad. As long as you follow along with the lectures, you'll get the correct answers. The quiz assignments include reading material that you can read along with.
Mr. Landeros teaching style was simple but effective. His way of to convey the material was great and he did it very clearly.
Dr Landeros was an awesome teacher. Very clear and easy lectures and not to much assignments. I would say there is a good amount of reading but in college when is there not. I would highly recommend people to take his class.
Highly recommended to take his class, his lectures and assignments are very easy and straightforward.
I don't know how he is in person but online is an absolute nightmare with him. Every single assignment is lockdown browser and you can't see what you're about to get yourself into until you start your only attempt. The homework assignments take 2-4 hours long and you can't pause it. Also he is an extremely tough grader and picks apart your papers.
Dr. Landeros is definitely the toughest professor I had my fall semester, but he is also just good at his job. Every Tuesday, it's typically a chapter quiz and a lecture video followed by a quiz, and EVERYTHING is on lockdown browser. The online course has no final, and he gives optional extra credit. Just do honest work and read the chapters!
Career and passion definitely is something you will see when you take this professor. He is very knowledgeable about his material and his lectures really go into detail. I loved the way he structured his class, I would take his class again.
Professor Landeros offers a well-structured Chicano history course with engaging lectures, insightful readings, and many interesting videos. The workload is steady but reasonable and staying on track is important. Overall, this is a great course.
Very easy class to take. I learned a lot work load was not to heavy!
He's an excellent professor
get ready to read
Easy to class to follow and professor is very helpful
I have taken two classes with him and he is incredible. I really appreciate that his grading feedback is always very clear and tells you how you can improve.
Professor Landeros makes an enjoyable class atmosphere, keeping lectures interesting and keeping students involved. He is quick to answer any questions and is quite knowledgable of his teachings, so I enjoyed the class. My only minor complaint is that his lecture bullets are a bit vague sometimes, so you'll need to listen close to what he's saying.
Expect eye-opening insights into Chicana/o history you wouldn't normally hear. Very moving class - powerful lessons.
Mr. Landeros is an amazing teacher. He communicates with respect and professionalism. Great organization and lesson preparation, i learned a lot of new things with this teacher. I would highly recommend Mr. Landeros.
This class was so much fun! I really enjoyed the lectures, and he worked hard to ensure that each person had the opportunity to succeed with clear instructions to do so. He provides helpful feedback and is highly engaged in guiding class discussions. Overall, he is a fantastic professor whom I recommend to anyone taking history.
This class is best suited for students who enjoy history. The required use of LockDown Browser for every assignment was inconvenient and time consuming. I also did not appreciate being called on for almost every question throughout the semester causing more stress. Overall, this class may work for some students, but it was not the best fit for me.
He is a great professor. I really liked the way the class was taught and how we looked at different topics from historical perspectives and connected them to films. It's a class where you learn a lot, and the learning process never feels stressful.
A great professor, offers this class most can take with no issue. There are a lot of readings but should not take up any of your time. Mandatory attendance, offers great feedback and extra credit. A easy class!
His class is a challenge especially with readings, you have to comprehend when reading to understand what is being said, the work is not too much but it is dense, be sure to complete the assignments and readings so you're not behind, overall, better experience with history this time
Never was able to do my assignments because he required lockdown browser for literally everything. everything is due on Thursday and once you open an assignment you have four hours to complete so I couldn't do it on lunch at work or during the time I had free. the class was fine, just like all the other classes just don't take it if you work too.
