In previous History classes, I had to drink plenty of caffeine to stay awake. But because of Mrs. Swiney's enthusiasm, I am actually eager to learn History. She is definitely one of the best teachers I have ever had.

You have to have good study skills for this class. The essay tests are easy if you have a good memory otherwise you have no chance. You have readings that help cushion your grade but don't depend on that. GOOD LUCK!

This class was a challenge but she made history interesting and fun. All essay tests but, once you get the hang of it it's easy. Take this class if you're up for a fun challenge.

Very good class. Took it as a short course (8 hrs/day for one week in January) & never got bored or felt overwhelmed. Her essay tests are right off the study guide she gives you. Study it & you'll do great.

Took a fast track 1 wk class. Never had a more intersting history teacher. It's my least favorite class and she made me understand it.Test questions come right off of the reveiws. Great teacher! You can tell she loves her work and she makes the class fun so it is easy to remember the material. As long as you take GOOD notes and study them the tests will be easy. She makes you know your stuff, but she also gives a study guide for each test which makes it easier. I totally recommend her!

I just had Mrs. Swiney for a 5 day Mon-Fri 8-5:00 class and I know that anybody can pass that class because she loves history and her job and you will remember and know the material when she is done. Highly recommended!!!

Swiney is very enthusiastic about history, and her classes are a pleasure. Be prepared to do a lot of writing. Be bold, she'll give a better grade. She can be disorganized and get way off of her schedule, but is definitely interesting. The class is worthy of the Honors designation.

this teacher is a hard teacher and her test is especially hard they are all essays. I took her intersession course we had two test, and two assignments, hard class but if you keep on top of things you can make a good grade atleast a b this is not a class for whimps study hard youll do good she knows her stuff

Great professos.Helpful I love the subject matter, but it was still relativitly easy being that I took it in one week. Get ready to read a alot but she is funny so there is break in the boring subject matter at times. I took her in a week and by the end I had enough, but taking a whole semester of her would be much easier to stay awake.

Very entertaining and attention-grabbing! You won't fall asleep in this class! A tad bit difficult, yet as long as you take notes and pay close attention you'll do just fine (which I did not do very well)....she also lists her notes on the TCC websites blackboard so you can study those before the tests. She also gives out bonus point opportunities!

Take notes and read the book. She posts "what you need to know for the test" on Black board, if you study and now that stuff, you'll do well. She very enthusiastic about the subject, so it made the class fun.

She is Amazing! I would almost take another History class just to listen to her. Her lecture is entertaining, and she is always available for any questions. She offers many bonus point opportunities, but you probably wont need them because if you listen in class you will pass the test!

Fabulous professor! I was a little leary of her when I read her sylibus (she seems strict) but she was awesome. She made sitting in a room for 8 hours each day interesting and fun. You watch a movie and even get to order out for lunch. I highly recommend her. Know your study guide and you'll ace the tests.

I took her for a one week fast track class. It was really fast paced, but she knew what she was talking about and very interesting. The only thing I didn't like about her class was the tests because you had to do a lot of writing, but you got to choose your test questions.

Prof. Swiney, was absolutely emotionally involved with the history lesson. I often wondered when she was going to take a breath! She is very workable when you try! this class is up to the student to succeed. This instructor gives you everything you need, you have to earn your A if that is what you want. she is very accomodating.

You have to attend this class, she makes tests almost compeltely off her powerpoint notes, hardley uses the book. She is very funny and passionate about history, she does have a couple of essays on her tests so if that isn't your strong point, I would suggest another class.

Class taught as a seminar. Four 10 page papers, plus a 5 page final summary. One regional report each week (more can be done for extra credit). No tests at all. Extremely easy grader. Really engaging when she actually lectures. Shows too many videos. Class sounds like more work than it actually is.

If you like history then take her. It does require you to go to class and take notes. Use her study guides off Blackboard to prewrite your essays. 4 essays test 100 points each, 4 readings with question 25 each and extra credit. She loves what she does and makes it really interesting. I would recommend her to anyone willing to try.

Absolutely LOVED this class and her!! She is so energetic, passionate, and very knowledgeable. Her tests are a little difficult, all essay, so write down EVERYTHING from her powerpoints, know defenitions, and reading the book helps a lot too. She gives lots of extra credit. I got an A fairly easily, but did have to study. :) Amazing lady!!

Took her for intercession. Great professor, I would take her again anytime. Not the easiest class. Tests based 100% on lectures, book not used at all. All essay tests BUT she gives you a study guide and all material on the test is on the study guide. She is extremely sarcastic and a bit crass, so if that's not something you like, don't take her

GREAT teacher! I took this class in a 5 day fasttrack class. She was very fun and upbeat. Kept your attention, while spending entire day in class. Tests were essay style. Grades faily. Very blunt, and will tell you what she thinks. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

I took the 1 week fasttrack class and had a great time. She kept it very interesting, fun, and was a great teacher. The tests were all in essay style...not good for me. She didn't use the textbook at all. She didn't let you take notes in with you for tests. I thought it was unfair seeing as how she was giving so much info in so short a time.

1073 was 20th century world history, which is no longer available at tcc. the professor is great, she is fun and enthusiastic about what she teaches and knows her stuff, makes the class fun, it is also easy and has extra credit. beware taking the "survey based" types of classes tho, i felt i would have had it much easier and with more fun otherwise

Took the 1 week fast track. Mrs. Swiney was very enthusiastic during lectures. The days get long, but she keeps in interesting. She tells you exactly what will be on the test through the study guides. Know the study guides and you will ace the class. I work full time and have two small kids and still made an A in the class.

She is very enthusiastic about her class! Interesting to listen to. TAKE NOTES!! I did't purchase the book, but still am doing well. She covers a lot! She has 4 tests and they are all essay questions! However she allows you to choose the ones you answer. Also 4 readings to equal one test grade. I would recommend this professor.

Very good teacher. Very ADA friendly.Simply inform her once and she will remember you and will try to help you in any way possible. she knows her material so well its frightening. she is fun and conversational and kind. I recommend taking her class for all especially if you like writing.

Ms. Swiney is a very funny teacher & makes a 3 hr. class tolerable. She opens the class up for discussions & is very helpful. No laptops are allowed in class so all notes (which there are lots) must be handwritten. Don't miss a class unless you have a study buddy. 4 essay tests, 4 readings, & some extra credit make up your grade.

I had a 4.0 in 23hrs all taken in 1 semester and were much harder topics ie. chemistry, human anatomy,even a history class etc... and ended up with an undeserved B in her class. Exams were not graded fairly at all. thinking of taking it to the dean. I would take a different prof. because if she doesnt like you you will not get an A no matter what

I took Mrs. Swiney for my first intersession class ever. The syllabus was intimidating at first, plus I'm not normally a fan of history anyway, but I actually really enjoyed her class. If you pay attention and take notes you will easily pass with an A.

I took Swiney for an intersession class and enjoyed it. The days are long but she makes it go by fast and kept me entertained. The tests were ALL essay, which were very difficult but I came out with an A. Don't get offended by her grading on papers, she doesn't give perfect scores. We didn't use the book at all and I learned a lot in the five days.

Great teacher! She made the class really lively and fun. The test where not that hard. Make sure you know the answers to the study guide and you'll do fine. She sometimes changes dates so make sure you pay attention. But she makes learning really fun.

I have taken 2 classes with Mrs. Swiney. One was an intersession, one was 16 weeks. Her tests are essay, but not that hard and she makes a long class interesting, and really does make history come alive. You can tell she is truly passionate about all things history.

I had honors pre-civil war with her and she was brilliant. By far the best teacher I have ever had. A lot of work for her honors classes, a lot of writing, but great. She's passionate about history and makes it contagious. Loved her connection to the rest of the world. Would take anything she offers!

Took her one week class and did nothing but eat, sleep and breathe history for an entire week.It is not an easy A, but Swinney is wonderful. I just passed Swiney's week long intersession course with an A. It wasn't easy. The tests are essay, and there are a few writing assignments. Paying attention in class and asking questions are the only ways to do well. Swiney does a great job at teaching history. If I needed another HIST credit I would take her again.

Swiney seems intimidating at first but is actually really nice. What this class involves is writing, writing and more writing. But she makes the subject interesting. All tests are essay answer, there is no multiple choice. Homework is every two weeks, you read an historical essay and write short answer essays to questions. I loved this class.

Prof. Swiney does an excellent job at teaching her passion. I had no problem's with the semester long 20th Cent. World History. Quite a few long, enjoyable videos. Don't wait until the last minute to do your assignments because it's a lot of writing that takes a little research.

I took Paddy's class in the 1st semester of my freshman year and consider her one of the best professor's of my college career. She is passionate about the subject and knows her stuff. Her exam content was tough, but paying attention in class and studying made an A attainable. She challenges you to learn and makes the content interesting.

Professor Swiney is an excellent instructor who knows her material. She is deeply passionate, but also has high expectations for her student. Make sure you take clear notes. When writing essays use information presented in her lectures as well as using the textbooks with proper citations. Her classes are truely unique and educational.

Tests are all essay. Study guides help. Do the homework and extra credit! ATTEND CLASS and take notes according to study guide she posts. Only used the book a few times but you could probably find the info online. She's very passionate about the subject and lectures are interesting. Very fun person and helpful

She gives you a study guide and that is essentially her tests. I have never cracked open her book. I only made a C in the class because life got the best of me for 2 of her tests and I was unable to study. Do the homework & that will save you. She KNOWS what she is teaching & I highly recommend her, even though she seems intimidating @ first.

Mrs. Swiney was one of the hardest teachers i took at TCC . When she first said our tests were essay format i didn't know what to expect. So, i wrote down and memorized everything from those chapters and got a 100% on my first exam. She definitely made me work for that A! Just make sure to ask questions and know whats on the study guides.

Civil War-Present Ms Swiney's love of history will rub off on you. She's a spirited lady and I learned SO much from her. She uses lively lectures and powerpoint. If you print off the timelines and study guides she puts up on blackboard, show up to class and TAKE NOTES you will be just fine. She offers extra credit but calls it "applied history".

Professor Swiney is great. I am taking her 20th Century World class. It is a three hour lecture, and it goes by pretty fast. We have homework every week: a timeline that is due based upon whatever region you are assigned or a paper. I was so scared of taking this class because I am not a history person, but I have kept a good grade so far.

Mrs. Swiney is a bubbly crazy old lazy who loves history and isn't afraid to speak her mind. she gives out plenty of applied history(extra credit) opportunities, she lectures can be long but she is great at keeping them interesting. Her power points are what you need to use to study for tests and her tests are short answer. book is optional

If you are looking to skate by, don't take her class. She is passionate and energetic in her lectures. She gives essay tests which forces you to actually know the material. As long as you know the study guide she gives, you will be fine. I would definately take her again.

Mrs. Swiney is the best teacher that you can have for history class.

Only needed the text book for studying for the tests. She can be quite scatter brained, but new exactly what she was talking about at all times. You have to LISTEN to her, or you could miss something, she is not very tech savvy. She was an enthusiastic speaker and cared about her students, I would recommend her 10/10 and take her again.

Mrs Swiney is extremely enthusiastic about the subject which helped motivate me. Many opportunities for extra credit - use them! For each test you really need to use the crib sheet - if you learn this you'll do well. It's a tough class and you really need to be interested in history otherwise you'll struggle but it's not impossible.

Mrs. Swiney loves history you can tell because when she gives a lecture it's like a story. She has a essay tests for every unit NO multiple choice, but as long as you take notes. Personally i didn't use the text book but that's because i remember lectures so well. You can tell she cares about the her students, and I really recommend her.

Prof. Swiney is a scatterbrained, hilarious, history-savvy teacher. She grades tough on papers, but she gives a rubric so you know where you stand. I'm taking my third class with her because this woman knows her stuff. I highly recommend her if you are pursuing a history degree--she doesn't use books as much as lectures to teach.

I took the summer class for Civil War to Present. She had an extra credit opportunity in almost ever class. It moves fast and tests are in short paragraph format but she really cares about history and her students.

She is a wonderful teacher. In fact she is the only history i have ever had that actually teaches. More than half my class dropped because her test are fairly difficult, but if you study you will have no problem passing the class.
